Popular Reviews

Le Tigre by Le Tigre

God this made me want to steal some five o'clock vodka and eye liner then end up in a binge montage. Cool stuff, committed hard to the sound and had an unpolished and authentic shine.

Maybe its the Detroit in me but this album is still amazing. The Way I Am is his best song and its been heavily in my rotation the last 2 years. I cannot believe people do not see how satirical he is with a lot of his edgier content. Its horror rap teetering on what was socially acceptable in the 2000s. Its very of its era but for every derogative comment outwards theres 3 at himself. The only song I don't like here is Amityville. Never been for me. Favorite Songs: The Way I Am, Stan There is also a very good video on Eminem and how White America in the 2020s is missing a role model that points a finger back and says "ok yeah but food stamps and heathcare suck for us to..." youtube.com/watch?v=AKevy6Bzkng&vl=en

Apocalypse Dudes by Turbonegro

This album is one of the most cringe things I've had to endure in a while. It feels like a bunch of 50 year olds tried to be edgy and cool at the 4th grade graduation party. I don't have a single song that I hope to hear again. The song titles are so lame, the content was lacking and have no point. Ok yall can shred the guitar and bash some drums well but that doesn't mean you can write a song. Its only not getting a 1 because of the instrumentation.

Rock Bottom by Robert Wyatt

At first this sounded like a cracked out muppet singing in the shower. Then something clicked. It’s still weird, it’s still pretentious. The atmosphere alone has left me thinking about this long after its run time ended. Listened 3 times and plan to again eventually.

I somehow have avoided Wu-Tang Clan on my entire music journey and that was a known mistake. This was a fantastic project top to bottom. Hard hitting lyrics but you can still hear how much fun they had together. There are a few too many skits and I really wish they were individual tracks for my playlists. I might change my mind once I learn the individuals better - though I am familiar with nearly everyone independently. Favorite Tracks: Tearz and Da Mystery of Chessboxin'

Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake
Jan 20 2025

One of my favorite melancholic folk albums. An exceptional variety of instruments scattered about to pull you into Nick Drake's grey, bleak world. Him and Mac Miller will top my "what if" charts. This being Nick Drake's debut album is astonishing. River Man, Three Hours, Day is Done and Fruit Tree are my stand out tracks with Three Hours being one of my favorite Nick Drake songs period. Personally, I prefer Bryter Layter but the connections and growth between them are impossible to ignore. if anyone is interested in learning more about Nick Drake check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9azMyryhwo

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Jan 21 2025

This is my first real exposure to Joni and... yeah its fine. The jazz elements kept me going and some of the writing is good. She randomly kicks her voice up to 11 and its beautiful but also off putting. I'm enjoying it more on my second listen but do not see it going much further.

Deep Purple In Rock by Deep Purple
Jan 22 2025

The songs and lyrics are really lacking here. I didn't find them to offer much more than some sweet guitar. The only stand our track was Child in Time but wow is that a long song....

Sunday At The Village Vanguard by Bill Evans Trio
Jan 23 2025

It really doesn't help that there are 286438 different versions of this album and recordings for each song. Some of it was really good and had me tappin and grooving to some emails but other parts dragged on and felt clashy. I'm not versed in Jazz enough to "get it"

Pink Flag by Wire
Mar 13 2025

As someone that hardly listens to anything remotely related to Punk this sounds like every punk album. That likely is a testament to its impact however for a single spin in 2025 it didn’t do much for me. Instrumentals are strong but the lyrics didn’t jump out for me

Gasoline Alley by Rod Stewart
Mar 16 2025

Really enjoyed the first half, wasn’t too into the last few tracks. Some really fun and catch hooks!

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
Mar 18 2025

A fantastically personal dive into who Dolly is, her family around her and the experiences she’s had as her career is taking off. This is my first experience with Dolly and 70s Country and I enjoyed every second.

Logical Progression by LTJ Bukem
Mar 20 2025

Cool vibe while working. The version linked here isn’t correct so I used a YouTube version and didn’t see track names. The verse at the end was fun due to its age

War by U2
Mar 21 2025

I understand why I’ve only heard one of these songs before. It’s fine.

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Mar 22 2025
Aja by Steely Dan
Mar 25 2025

Super mellow and fun. Groovy instrumentals. Def didn’t have enough blow at work for the vibe

Rock Bottom by Robert Wyatt
Mar 26 2025

At first this sounded like a cracked out muppet singing in the shower. Then something clicked. It’s still weird, it’s still pretentious. The atmosphere alone has left me thinking about this long after its run time ended. Listened 3 times and plan to again eventually.

Raw Like Sushi by Neneh Cherry
Mar 27 2025

Sounds straight out of ‘89 and not in a good way. Some cool sounds and lyrics but I’ll leave this one for GenX

I Should Coco by Supergrass
Mar 28 2025

Cool, not for me. Solid tracks, nothing really clicked.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Mar 29 2025

Too long, very good pianist. Was great for emails but I’ll never think about this again.

Blunderbuss by Jack White
Apr 01 2025

I liked it. Second half was better to me. Stand out track was "I Guess I Should go to Sleep"

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Apr 02 2025

Round & Round and Cowgirl in the Sand were my stand outs. A nice mellow play but quality.

Rejoicing In The Hands by Devendra Banhart
Apr 03 2025

A nice melancholic listen on a stormy day. I found the guitar and layering on "Poughkeepsie" to be the highlight of my listen. "Will is My Friend" was the other stand out one.

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Apr 08 2025

I've never listened to a full Bob Marley project. Super relaxed vibe even when addressing heavier topics. I got excited when I recognized the bassline from "Forgive them Father" on the opening track. "Concrete Jungle" and "Midnight Ravers" were my standout songs. I need to book a cheap spirit flight to a beach now...

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra
Apr 09 2025

Stared very strong but grew old. Still tons of fantastic layering and instrumental varieties that I feel are still underutilized even today. I knew a few of these going in but never knew the outro to Mr Blue Sky was tied into the entire album as a motif

Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
Apr 10 2025

Wow what an exceptional piece of music. I've heard of it before but never heard more than the opening Exorcist theme. Pt 2 > 1.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Apr 11 2025

Listened to this 3 times over the course of the day. With some personal thing and a rainy day it hit different. Ate a Costco pizza with a joint on my porch and it just hit hard. Never really enjoyed Bruce's stuff too much but this has me interested in trying again.

Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson
Apr 12 2025

Loved that each track flowed into one another. Made it hard to highlight a single track though. It’s fine. Not for me

Superunknown by Soundgarden
Apr 15 2025

Cool sounds, 90s rock just ain’t really for me

Horses by Patti Smith
Apr 16 2025

I liked "Land: Horses" the most and saw value in "Break It Up" but other than that it was kinda just noise to me.

Apr 17 2025

TODAYYY IS GONNA BE THE DAY THAT IM GONNA POST MY REVIEWWWWWW Its ok... I of course liked "Wonderwall" and also "Don't Look Back in Anger." "Champagne Suepernova" was also refreshing at the end, I would have liked to hear a project with more variety like that.

The Yes Album by Yes
Apr 18 2025

Too self indulgent and did not justify its long run times. Some amazing sounds but lord were they long songs.

GREY Area by Little Simz
Apr 20 2025

"Some people reads the Alchemist and still never amount to shit" I believe I listened to most of this years ago and it stood out but slipped through the cracks. I've listened to her 2022 project and grew eager to see where Little Simz would go. I was great to finally absorb this more and pick up on the lyrics and overall narrative. Listening to this after Lauryn Hill also gave me an interesting perspective due to them having many of the same themes but 20 years and an entire continent apart. The synth on Boss feels like something Tyler, the Creator/Roy Ayers would add for texture and its beautiful. They layering and mixing on Venom is otherworldly adding suspense and unease to her career in a male dominated field. Therapy and Sherbet Sunset also stood out. Lots of variety and no reliance on features. Excited to hear what she does on Lotus in June.

Apr 21 2025

Truly one of the greatest and most influential albums of all time. The things its influenced can be heard everywhere either directly as a sample or just something she normalized. Since my last listen ~2 years ago I've learned more about Lauryn's relationships during this period and sis was a mess. That added context and also just picking up more things each listen enhances the experience. Stand outs for me are "Doo Wop" and "Nothing Even Matters" with "Forgive them Father" being one of my favorites ever. Hearing the classroom speak on their understanding of Love really draws sad cross references to Lauryn's failed relationships and her failure to find a healthy love. She clearly knows it inside but continued to make strange romantic decisions.

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Apr 22 2025

Good, kickass rock n roll. Highway Star and Smoke on the Water are classics. Lazy was an interesting song theme to hear over a hard guitar. No complaints.

OK Computer by Radiohead
Apr 23 2025

I’ve been scared of starting a Radiohead project because I’ve heard nothing but raving reviews though personally don’t really enjoy 90s rock. This kicks ass. Paranoid android is hauntingly beautiful, exist music is incredible, no surprises was familiar but nice to hear in the sequencing. I guess I’ll finally check out Kid A and In Rainbows.

Apr 24 2025

I think this would grow on me with more listens. I never knew Eno had such prominent vocals and expected this to be much more atmospheric. Clearly the beginnings of something. The ending of Dead Finks Don't Talk must have been such an interesting and new sound for the time. Diving me Backwards, Some of Them Are Old, and Here Come the Warm Jets were my stands outs.

Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes
Apr 25 2025

I didn't like this one that much. Jack White's squirrely voice can be something that sets his music apart from the rest or makes me want to never hear him again. "The Nurse" was an interesting narrative exploration but a terrible song. "Little Ghost" is one of the worst songs we've had to get through in this entire album project. The second half of this album is thankfully much tighter. "Instinct Blues" and " Take, Take, Take" were my favorites with "Red Rain" being a nice piano ballad and witch up too.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Apr 26 2025

That sure was an album of REM. 9-9 was the best.

Close To You by Carpenters
Apr 27 2025

Maybe a 4 is pushing it but a 3 felt harsh. There’s a beauty in the simplicity of these songs. The writing and her vocals take charge and really are all that’s needed. I might prefer this version of Help to the Beatles. Maybe her voice is just deeply tied to Christmas nostalgia and i cannot separate those feelings. Regardless, a great weekend listen.

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Apr 28 2025

I've finally given this a listen after years of seeing it on "Best albums of all time" lists. I don't think I would go that far but it certainly is sonically dense. I listened to it 3 times and still don't feel like I scratched the surface of this project. Def will be coming back to it.

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Apr 29 2025

Put me to sleep. Last song was cool

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar
Apr 30 2025

When this popped up I was like "Ooo how exciting I haven't heard this top to bottom in a few years" only to then realize 80% of these are still in rotation and likely will be forever. I chose to do the deluxe version for this listen. This album still feels ahead of its time with the attention to detail, themes and overarching narrative. Probably my second favorite Kendrick project behind Mr. Morale (yeah yeah yeah, you'll get it one day)

My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
May 01 2025

Idk if it was the day or this just isn't for me at all. Didn't finish the last track or so.

World Clique by Deee-Lite
May 02 2025

A fun little bop. The electronic sounds used really date it in a charming way. Not something I probably will return to but a worthwhile experience. The samples used are as fun to explore as the tracks: https://www.whosampled.com/album/Deee-Lite/World-Clique/

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
May 03 2025

Hard to not like some Zeppelin. I’ve never done an album of theirs from top to bottom before so this was fun. Cool to see them have their magic from the beginning. Lots to enjoy here but I’m not sure this is the one I’d come back to aside from a few tracks.

The United States Of America by The United States Of America
May 04 2025

Disclaimer: I only did the original 10 tracks and none of the added ones from the remaster. This album tries to do a lot and tries to be super wacky experimental and quirky. It actually succeeds often but the flops are rough and make the entire project fall apart. Didn't get much of the lyrics and don't care to look it up.

Moss Side Story by Barry Adamson
May 05 2025

Writing a soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist is a fun experiment. I could feel the cold streets where a crime was unfolding. I am unfamiliar with classic crime films but I could hear some similar sounds from Blade Runner 2049's score. "The Swinging Detective" was my favorite track.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
May 06 2025

This might be one that would grow on me but as someone that only really knows "Psycho Killer" by them it just sounded like an album of "Psycho Killer"-likes. "Cities" and "Animals" were good with my favorite being "Drugs"

Apocalypse Dudes by Turbonegro
May 07 2025

This album is one of the most cringe things I've had to endure in a while. It feels like a bunch of 50 year olds tried to be edgy and cool at the 4th grade graduation party. I don't have a single song that I hope to hear again. The song titles are so lame, the content was lacking and have no point. Ok yall can shred the guitar and bash some drums well but that doesn't mean you can write a song. Its only not getting a 1 because of the instrumentation.

Under Construction by Missy Elliott
May 08 2025

My first Missy Elliott album despite knowing of her and her legacy for so long. It was fine. Work It was a bop, Jay-Z had a fun feature, and I liked the story telling with Beyonce. I understand some of the "disclaimers" on the tracks but I wish they were individual tracks; It doesn't work smoothly in the streaming playlist era.

Tidal by Fiona Apple
May 10 2025

Fiona Apple has been on my list so this was fun to finally check out! "Slow Like Honey," "Criminal," "The First Taste," and "Carrion" were my highlights. This was a great top to bottom atmosphere with unique instrumentations.

The Sounds Of India by Ravi Shankar
May 14 2025

I'm glad this album is on the list, its exposed me to something new and broadened my musical scope. That said, I didn't enjoy it that much. It was good while working but didn't engage me too much. I enjoyed the narration to call out some differences.

Low-Life by New Order
May 15 2025

Good sound, kinda blurs together and the lead singer shoots for notes he can't hit. Forgettable but thats ok, I enjoyed it for what it was.

Pyromania by Def Leppard
May 16 2025

Some great classic rock anthems here. If you went in expecting anything else... idk what to tell you... Some of it got too samey but still a fun ride.

Moving Pictures by Rush
May 17 2025

A great sound at its best, an imitation of itself at its worst. Tom Sawyer is a classic and Witch Hunt was a fun new one for me.

Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention
May 19 2025

I cannot believe they drowned the best character... Oh well... Nice, soothing 60s soft stuff. Nothing amazing but a nice listen while cleaning house.

So by Peter Gabriel
May 20 2025

Wow i went in excited and really only liked Sledgehammer…

Bluesbreakers by John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
May 21 2025

“Have you Heard” brought me life. Great project

Murder Ballads by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
May 22 2025

Some cool sounds and story telling but overall I think I just don't get it. Its Broadway but for hicks...

25 by Adele
May 23 2025

One of the best voices of my generation. Not my favorite of hers but some cool songs. I think I'd have liked it more if half of these songs weren't played to death for the last 10 years. "Million Years Ago" was a nice new find though!

Van Halen by Van Halen
May 27 2025

Kicked ass while working on my car

Grievous Angel by Gram Parsons
May 28 2025

I really hated this one. Felt like I was back in South Carolina in the worst of ways. I did like the wiki tea on the widow removing Mary Lou from the cover on some petty vibe

You Are The Quarry by Morrissey
May 30 2025

Only did one listen but lyrics have aged well over all for being so blatantly political. Neat sounds but not really for me.

In The Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra
Jun 02 2025

To me this is a 3/5 but also a 5/5. The songs are melancholic, slow and quite frankly often overdramatic in the worst ways. But still, there is something about Frank's presence and sound that fill me with a nostalgic bliss from Christmas mornings with his music. This isn't my favorite album of his but it still carries some of that magic as a whole. "This Love of Mine"'s strings were my favorite part of the album.

Bad by Michael Jackson
Jun 03 2025

I understand MJ's personal behavior ruining some of the magic but this album still slaps. I much prefer Off the Wall and Thriller but this album is great too. The only song I didn't like was Liberian Girl. Just Good Friends also was whatever. Bad, Man in the Mirror, Dirty Diana and Smooth Criminal are just MJ at his best and I still think there hasn't been anyone that has come close to using all of these sounds without feeling like an imitation. The Weeknd has come close with his variety and visuals but they do different things.

Jun 04 2025

Going into this I was loosely familiar with the Dead Kennedys' heavier punk and political messaging but was only familiar with Holiday in Cambodia (shout out Guitar Hero III). As someone that has hated all of the harder rock and punk that has been thrown at me during this gauntlet... this bumps. I love how fast the songs move, they don't outstay their welcome. (I listened to the 2022 Mix) All of the songs were understandable and layered extremely well. What a strong debut album

British Steel by Judas Priest
Jun 07 2025

Short, tight, and to the point fun rock. I cannot believe "Metal Gods" hasn't been pitched down and sampled for some bling rap. I really enjoyed this one!

Music From The Penguin Cafe by Penguin Cafe Orchestra
Jun 12 2025

This is one of my favorite albums we have done so far. I am doing this as a catch-up review but the name has had me intrigued since I missed it. After seeing the album art I was already endeared. 3 tracks in, I had to learn more about the group and of course, for the 6th time on this list, I saw Brian Eno as an executive producer. That man is everywhere! "The Sound of Someone You Love Who's Going Away and It Doesn't Matter" really carried that narrative from top to bottom. Gut wrenching but evocative. Ill certainly be looking at more of their albums!

Fragile by Yes
Jun 14 2025

This is reductive of me but this album really is just the home of Roundabout and 8 other songs... South Side of the Sky, Long Distance Runaround, and Heart of the Sunrise are good but man these runtimes are brutal. Not enough meat for the duration but some really great sounds.

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Jun 17 2025

Never heard anything by Elliott Smith before. Cool sounds and from what I got great lyrics. This is one I want to revisit and digest better down the road.

That's The Way Of The World by Earth, Wind & Fire
Jun 18 2025

Lots of great stuff here. I cannot believe "Africano" hasn't been used for sampling.

Jun 19 2025

I've listened to this album a few times over the years hoping to find new gems. Every time I'm left going "Oh yeah I get why everyone knows Tainted Love and nothing else" I am a huge fan of "Where did Our Love Go?" and think the double song with "Tainted Love" is the definitive way to listen. "Wave Hello, Say Goodbye" is also a fun one

Loveless by My Bloody Valentine
Jun 20 2025

Not usually my type of vibe but I was really impressed with the production. I hardly got any of the lyrics but enjoyed the vocals as an instrumental layer. Will revist!

Play by Moby
Jun 21 2025
Crime Of The Century by Supertramp
Jun 22 2025

Supertramp has never been one of my favorites. Their songs are full of amazing moments but never come together for me. I felt the same for this project. Rudy was my favorite song. Asylum was almost good but it just didnt do it.

Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk
Jun 23 2025

The opening track might be the closest thing I've heard to C418's Minecraft Soundtrack. Made me just wanna chug along on an adventure. I was surprised to hear the iconic riff from Planet Rock on the title track. Some of the songs were a little too repetitive and needed to be shorter or spiced up. Nothing bad here but nothing I will probably return to aside from the first song.

Beauty And The Beat by The Go-Go's
Jun 24 2025

A fun little collection of bops. Automatic was my favorite. Nothing life changing but it wasn't trying to be.

Night Life by Ray Price
Jun 25 2025

This is literally the music that plays at Cedar Point (amusement park) in the frontier cowboy place. Corny, repetitive, & boring.

Butterfly by Mariah Carey
Jun 26 2025

Started strong, i really liked the shook ones sample. Kinda just got exhausting and turned into sex music. Talented but not for me.

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
Jun 27 2025

Tis felt like Duran Duran on NyQuil and I didn't have any feelings otherwise

Ramones by Ramones
Jun 28 2025

A lot of the same

Teen Dream by Beach House
Jun 29 2025

I didn't like it at first, not really my genre or speed. By the 3rd or 4th I adapted to it and really enjoyed this one! Fell asleep to it on a plane and gave it a second listen and this one was great.

Elastica by Elastica
Jun 30 2025

Can someone tell the 90s there are more instruments than the guitar? More punk slop - this list's bias for mid guitar albums will be the death of me!

Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash
Jul 01 2025

While this is a lot softer than I usually enjoy, I cannot deny the quality in each song. I have a feeling my girlfriend will be keeping this in rotation for a long time too.

Green by R.E.M.
Jul 03 2025

Just like my review for "Murmur," this sure is a full album of R.E.M.! It feels more refined and I preferred it to "Murmur." Nothing really bad here but nothing special either

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
Jul 08 2025

I really did'nt absorb this but it was soothing for my morning emails.

Survivor by Destiny's Child
Jul 09 2025

Not usually my genre but hard to knock the production value and talent displayed.

Illmatic by Nas
Jul 10 2025

It doesn't get much better than this for classic east coast rap.

Slanted And Enchanted by Pavement
Jul 11 2025

I liked this one a lot more than their sophomore project that we did earlier this month. Might actually grow on me if I gave it a few more listens

Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Jul 12 2025

My initial take after finishing this was "Wow a lot of these sounded the same..." but saw I had added half of them to a playlist on only one listen. If it ain't broke don't fix it? I think I preferred this to LZ1

Heroes to Zeros by The Beta Band
Jul 13 2025

I wish I had more notes... I hardly have a lot to say but my gut reaction is that I really enjoyed it. Sort of dragged at the end but there is something here! Will need to digest and revisit.

Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin
Jul 14 2025

As far as folky classic rock, it doesn't get better than this.

Jul 15 2025

While I cannot deny his impact and legacy, this did absolutely nothing for me. I didn't dislike it but didn't really like it either.

Southern Rock Opera by Drive-By Truckers
Jul 16 2025

My initial gut when doing a little reading before was that this was going to be a 1/5 just garbage glazing of Skynyrd and revisionist glamorization of the South. Then I hit play... familiar sounds but with something to say in the lyrics. It kept going and I started to buy into the concept and appreciate the candidness of their influence. At one point I really enjoyed it and was ready to give this a 3 but acknowledge there weren't many things to revisit outside of a top to bottom play. It was then that I realized I still had another 30 minutes and accepted defeat. This needed sever edits and condensing of ideas if its going to be this on the nose with its sounds.

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
Jul 17 2025

Not a single skip, beautiful top to bottom. "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" was just *chefs kiss*

Groovin' by The Young Rascals
Jul 18 2025

What a lovely little collection of bops

1999 by Prince
Jul 19 2025

Prince has been "on the list" of artists to get to for a while. This removed him from that list...

Mask by Bauhaus
Jul 20 2025
Abbey Road by Beatles
Jul 22 2025

Personally, I am not a Beatles fan. They have a lot of great songs that I enjoy but I have never done a deep dive into their discography and never have felt a desire to. This is the first top to bottom Beatles experience I have had. It was... sort of as I expected; revolutionary but just not really for me. A lot of the songs just didn't do much for me but I can respect a lot about them. Some of the instrumentals here still feel ahead of their time and they aren't using any wacky crazy instruments to achieve this, the compositions are just that tight. The influence and legacy alone make this album quintessential to the list. I loved the guitar on "I Want You" but was really annoyed by the dramatic cut off. I went to Google hoping to find some artistic value that I missed and it would enhance the silence and transition but.. no... John just liked that and it is what it is. Favorite Song: Come Together - I have always loved how raw the guitar sounds when it comes in. Favorite Moment - Golden Slumbers into Carry That Weight

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Jul 24 2025

I don't know if the website admin manipulated this for the death of Ozzy but what perfect timing. A fantastic follow up album to the first heavy metal sounds - incredibly both in 1970. This got my dad off of The Carpenters and into Sabbath; he still mostly listens to heavier guitar to this day. War Pigs, Paranoid, and Iron Man are timeless. Jack the Stripper was a new find for me too!

Buena Vista Social Club by Buena Vista Social Club
Jul 25 2025

I really liked this one, the title track was probably my fav

Stankonia by OutKast
Jul 26 2025

While not my favorite from OutKast it’s still a timeless classic. Big Boi and Andre glide on these tracks

Third/Sister Lovers by Big Star
Jul 28 2025

This just made me want to listen to Nick Drake's Bryter Layter. The strings were very close to doing it for me but the vocals and songs never really fit right for me. "For You" is the only song I really enjoyed.

Jul 29 2025

I somehow have avoided Wu-Tang Clan on my entire music journey and that was a known mistake. This was a fantastic project top to bottom. Hard hitting lyrics but you can still hear how much fun they had together. There are a few too many skits and I really wish they were individual tracks for my playlists. I might change my mind once I learn the individuals better - though I am familiar with nearly everyone independently. Favorite Tracks: Tearz and Da Mystery of Chessboxin'

L'Eau Rouge by The Young Gods
Jul 30 2025

As someone that speaks French but doesn't listen to/keep up with French music I was interested in this one. The cover grabbed my attention and I wanted to know what was going on. I no longer wonder anything... not for me at all! Best song: Les Enfants because of the cut up strings and production

Permission to Land by The Darkness
Aug 04 2025

What a fun project! Nothing super special but it really nails the sounds it seeks to replicate/evolve. "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" is timeless and ripping it in Guitar Hero on the DS was my introduction. Unfortunately for The Darkness, my brain pictures the lead singer as Dennis Reynolds as the Dayman...

Diamond Life by Sade
Aug 05 2025

Another artist that has been on my list for a long time. Going into this I couldn't think of a single Sade song or album title that I was aware of. Immediately that changed with "Smooth Operator" but I never knew it was their song. Each song was enchanting and seductive. Favorite Song: Frankie's First Affair

Aug 06 2025

While a lot of these leave me wanting more in terms of song structure, there is texture to this album that I find lacking in modern beats. Action Bronson def was heavily inspired by Ghostface, very similar delivery. Favorite songs: Criminology, Ice Cream

Tago Mago by Can
Aug 07 2025

I bet this would have gone crazy high asf in the 1970's!! In 2025 while working, it was ok.

Bubble And Scrape by Sebadoh
Aug 08 2025

For a 90s heartbreak album i enjoyed it more than i expected!

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Aug 09 2025

I loved this album. Never heard of it or the Cocteau Twins but there wasn't a second wasted on this project. Lyrics were very difficult to discern but it didn't hinder the experience for me. Favorite Song: Fotzepolitic

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Aug 13 2025

I feel wrong for giving this a 2 but nothing really did it for me. Long and evolving, but not to places I wanted to be.

Is This It by The Strokes
Aug 15 2025

Objectively quality, not for me

Maxinquaye by Tricky
Aug 17 2025

Atmospheric and grimy. Some of the sounds felt right off a N64. Not really for me.

Run-D.M.C. by Run-D.M.C.
Aug 18 2025

Endearingly primitive in its sound. Not a ton to take away in 2025 but well worth the history lesson.

The Last Of The True Believers by Nanci Griffith
Aug 20 2025

About as far Country as I can get before its too much. Fantastic vocals and fun narratives. Not really for me but quality.

Heartbreaker by Ryan Adams
Aug 21 2025

Another that isnt really my speed but has an undeniable quality to it. I do have beef with Emmylou Harris being on here after her appearance on the worst album off this list (so far) Grievous Angel. Favorite Songs: Amy & Come Pick Me Up

Sail Away by Randy Newman
Aug 22 2025

Love me some Randy, don't love me under 2 min songs... Fun lyrics and delivery, unique instrumentals but a lot of them end when theyre starting up.

The Band by The Band
Aug 23 2025

More 60s rock stuff. Fun sounds but the biases of the list are getting to me. Favorite songs: Whispering Pines and Jawbone

The Score by Fugees
Aug 26 2025

Beautiful. Despite her odd existence in the music world, Lauryn Hill's voice continues to be so infectious both with her objective range and her ability to use it to rap or sing. Wyclef has some strong bars with political and social frustrations interwoven between catchy hooks.

Ragged Glory by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Aug 27 2025

Another Neil Young & Crazy Horse album? Really 2? This list will always amaze me. Nothing really special here at all but nothing bad either. Favorite Songs: Over and Over + Love and Only Love

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
Aug 28 2025

I gave myself 2 days for this one and did 2 different listens. The first listen was the studio recording and I could identify its musical complexities but I had no idea what it was about and what it meant. 3/5 initial reaction. The next day I listened to the newly released live album. I didn't gain a new understanding of the material but the music really connected more. Im sure there are 100+ youtube videos and blogs over analyzing this and its some political commentary masterpiece. Off my 2 listens I didn't get it. Cool sounds though and I look forward to listening to more Radiohead.

Sex Packets by Digital Underground
Aug 29 2025

Very primitive but charismatic in its own ways. Nothing would be made today that sounds or feels like this. Started to drag in the middle a lot but then got VERY horny. Not my thing but cool to check out this once.

Blur by Blur
Aug 30 2025

Fun but a little long. Favorite Song: Theme from Retro

Django Django by Django Django
Aug 31 2025

Never heard of this group, really enjoyed it. Started to drag in the middle but stuck the landing. Favorite songs: Hail Bop, Zumm Zumm, Life's A Beach

Pink Moon by Nick Drake
Sep 01 2025

Still not my favorite of his. Nick Drake is one of my favorites due to his complex writing and the arrangements he interweaves with a variety of instruments. This album is nearly entirely him and a guitar letting his emotions ride. Its a masterclass in its on right but it just isn't the one for me. Bryter Layter > Five Leaves Left > Pink Moon

Tragic Songs of Life by The Louvin Brothers
Sep 03 2025

This was pretty trash. "Take the News to Mother" was a cool, historic era piece.

Reggatta De Blanc by The Police
Sep 04 2025

That sure was a full album of the police

Teenage Head by Flamin' Groovies
Sep 05 2025

Yeah way too much

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Sep 09 2025

This was a full vibe while ripping through the mountains with the windows down. Missed most of the lyrics but instrumentals carried.

Sep 12 2025

Usually not a fan of live albums but this was fantastic. Brown and crew crushed this set. I am unaware of most of James Brown's discog so I can't attest to any "oh wow that's a fun way to do that live" moments but this was great. Favorite Song: I Don't Mind

Melodrama by Lorde
Sep 13 2025

I think I've listened to this one years ago but truly cannot recall. I've always respected Lorde but never really connected with her radio hits. This albums was very good! Fantastic use of placing her voice within the sound stage. Favorite Song: Sober

Everything Must Go by Manic Street Preachers
Sep 14 2025

90s rock I enjoyed?? Wow! Favorite song: Everything Must Go and The Girl Who Wanted to be God

Central Reservation by Beth Orton
Sep 15 2025

Im sure with repeat listens the sombre lyrics would get better and better but too long and repetitive on first listen

Ready To Die by The Notorious B.I.G.
Sep 16 2025

One of those albums I've seen the cover of my entire life and known I needed to listen to. Biggy and this era of rap are my blind spot but I have been learning more and more over the last 2 years or so. Fantastic album. The amount of things that had me going "that's from this??!?!" alone makes it a masterpiece. Favorite song: Juicy & Big Poppa

Odelay by Beck
Sep 17 2025

Yeah it was some beck. Not bad, not great. Cool to listen to a full project but it didn't leave me wanting more. Favorite Song: Where It's At

New Boots And Panties by Ian Dury
Sep 21 2025

Daddy issues meets jazz meets gooning meets pop punk.... Equal parts obnoxious and groovy.

Truth by Jeff Beck
Sep 22 2025

Rod Stewart went blues. Nothing amazing but solid enough.

Power In Numbers by Jurassic 5
Sep 23 2025

Never heard of this group before. Fun mid era hip hop! Favorite Songs: What's Golden and Thin Line

Ys by Joanna Newsom
Sep 24 2025

I think this is the type of album that would grow on me rapidly with a better grasp on the topics and themes. Without it being on streaming I didn't really grab the song titles (not that there are many) But wow... this album really is beautiful. The compositions are great. A little too theater kid in her delivery but the instrumentation adds a ton.

Dance Mania by Tito Puente
Sep 25 2025

Fun and didn't sound like 1958 at all. Only did the original tracklist and not the enormous extended edition. Favorite Song: Complicación

The Undertones by The Undertones
Sep 26 2025

More british pop punk... Sounds like the last 3 we've had. Nothing bad here though and some nice riffs.

No Other by Gene Clark
Sep 28 2025

Not really something I expected to connect with me but wow... I really liked this one. Sort of like R.E.M. folky poppy but with more to say and more experimentation. Never had heard of Gene Clark or this album but I am a fan!

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Sep 30 2025

It's Steely Dan! What's there to not like?? A little same-y for a full album but smooth and fun through and through.

Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris
Oct 02 2025

Poor Emmylou is just a reoccurring punching bag for me.... Her debut was on Gram Parson's Grievous Angel which is one of my lowest albums. She reappeared on Ryan Adam's Heartbreaker and I liked her a lot there. Now I get to experience her solo work. There is an undeniable level of poetry and craft but good lord I do not enjoy it! Nothing stuck out to me at all, nothing invited me for another listen.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Oct 04 2025

A lot of the same sounding stuff. Can see the appeal if its your thing but if it isn't... like it wasn't for me... then its a lot.

I See A Darkness by Bonnie "Prince" Billy
Oct 08 2025

Perfectly melancholic for the first rainy, fall day where I'm at. Really good stuff though I definitely need another listen or two for the lyrics. I was really excited to see Rosalia and Johnny Cash both had covers for the titular song. Truly a sign of quality. Favorite Tracks: I see a Darkness and Another Day Full of Dread

Duck Rock by Malcolm McLaren
Oct 09 2025

An album with a ton going on and it sounds like they had fun making it. Its endearingly dated. Favorite song: Double Dutch

Never was able to buy into her vocal performance. It felt jarring all the way until We Float. I liked her there. Some nice instrumentals but this is just not for me at all. Global reviews have me feeling a little left out but thats the beauty of art, right?

The College Dropout by Kanye West
Oct 20 2025

Sometimes I forget how different 2004 really was (I was 5 to be fair...) but this album just has different sounds from anything since. That said Cordae's The Crossroads feels is a spiritual successor to this with multiple samples from TCD and a Ye feature. This is an easy 5 for me. The impact this had on rap is still felt to this day. Without Ye, everything looks different. The skits don't feel like a waste of time. Without being crass or violent, Kanye still nails the braggadocio and competitive energy of rap. If you'd like to see the behind the scenes of this album check out Jeen-Yuhs on Netflix. Fantastic footage of Kanye getting signed and developing this album. Favorite Songs: Jesus Walks, Slow Jamz, & Family Matters

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Oct 22 2025

He's an undeniable goat... just not my goat. Guy was young asf crying about how old and miserable he is all the time. Amazing instrumentals, fun song structures and unique blends that still are exciting. I just don't really connect with his writing at all

Oct 23 2025

Those sure were some Gunfighter Ballads And Trail Songs... Big Iron was a fun surprise and brought back memories of watching a friend playthrough New Vegas during COVID. I didn't dislike it by any means but it has a very antiquated and primitive structure throughout.

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Oct 24 2025

Never had heard of this group or the lead singer Janis. Really liked it! Favorite Song: Turtle Blues + Ball and Chain

Oct 26 2025

Not much of a Beatles fan and this didn't help their case. "Well Well Well" should have ended this mans career that song sucked. "My Mummy's Dead" was haunting and gives me a dread for when that song will apply to myself. Isolation was amazing, heavy and beautiful. Absolute highlight for me.

Kilimanjaro by The Teardrop Explodes
Oct 27 2025

Of-the-era cliche soundscape but unusual execution. I really liked this one but found many amazing moments but no stand out songs as a whole.

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Oct 28 2025

Not for me. I liked the last one we had (Trans-Europe Express) much more. Favorite Song: Metropolis

Electric Prunes by The Electric Prunes
Oct 29 2025

I don't think this is a bad album but I'm not sure this list needed another 60s soft rock album. Wiki didn't highlight any particular reasons this is a "must hear!" album. Favorite Song: Bangles

Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Oct 30 2025

This might be one of my most biased reviews. I took this CD from my Dad's collection and burned it to my first iPod along with Meteora. This and Eminem's Curtain Call (Greatest Hits) exposed me to rap. I've seen LP in Paris 2014 and again in Detroit this year with Emily. This band means a lot to me despite it really not existing in any of my lasting music spheres. This is as far as I went into emo/nu metal. I know these songs so well its hard to evaluate them at all. I think that Crawling has aged the worst out of this selection but that's likely due to memes and over exposure. My favorite verse from Mike is on A Place for My Head. My favorite sound is the synth-thing layered on the chorus of Points of Authority. Papercut is a fantastic way to open up this album and set the tone and expectations. Favorite Songs: A Place for My Head, In the End,

Architecture And Morality by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
Oct 31 2025

I feel that the group's name and album art were somewhat misleading (I was expecting something like penguin cafe) but still, I enjoyed myself. I didn't have one song really stand out but enjoyed many parts when combined into a whole project. I think I will like this one a lot more if I return to it and let it grow on me.

Nov 01 2025

My first real exposure to Sam Cooke and I am floored. The band is on point. The vocals at 100. Lyrics comforting but not ushy gushy. The crowd had a fantastic energy but wasn't intrusive to the recording. I am unsure if this is edited between songs but they hardly took more than 10 seconds between songs and kept the energy high. Finding out that Journey's "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" is an interpolation of "Nothing Can Change this Love" had me floored. Just some fantastic stuff here Favorite Songs: Chain Gang, Medley: It's All Right/For Sentimental Reasons

McCartney by Paul McCartney
Nov 03 2025

Another generic sounding 60s album but from a legendary artist and technically 1970.... My girlfriend who loves The Beatles and 60s soft music even agreed this one didnt need to make the cut. Not much for me here. Super simple writing with lackluster instrumentals. Cover art is probably the only thing I expect to last with me.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Nov 04 2025

I've listened to this 3 times now but over many years. The title track is an all timer but the rest feel left behind and under developed.

New York Dolls by New York Dolls
Nov 05 2025

This was fun. They didn't take this serious at all but had a nice variety to it all. Didn't expect to hear sax on some punk. Favorite Songs: Subway Train and Personality Crisis

Nov 06 2025

OH BOY MORE PUNK YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE (the bias to punk and grunge on this list will be the death of me)

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
Nov 07 2025

With the wings >>>>>> Solo work Loved the layered voices and instrumentals. They clearly had so much fun making these songs and you can feel it. Favorite Songs: Picasso's Last Words, Mrs. Vandebilt

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Nov 08 2025

Good to finally have a name to "Take Five" as its one I've heard throughout my life. Jazz is something I'm extremely uneducated in but love the more I hear. This one kinda lost steam at the end but it was still very enjoyable.

Seventh Tree by Goldfrapp
Nov 09 2025

I was ready to say that this album came to a crawl at the ending but "Caravan Girl" knocked those words right out of me! Completely unaware of Goldfrapp before this. I really liked "Happiness" and expect this album to be one that really grows on me over time. Might check out their upcoming "Supernature" album though I have no idea how they've evolved since.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Nov 11 2025

I kinda hated this album right off the bat. The album art sucks and the superman version is only marginally cooler. Never heard of Sufjan nor this album. The first half felt like Jack Johnson trying to be quirky and quippy but then some strings and a choir came in... really beautiful. The songwriting unfortunately still did nothing for me but I can respect the instrumental variety. Favorite Song: They Are Night Zombies

Nixon by Lambchop
Nov 12 2025

I liked what i heard but I also felt what I heard went nowhere. Album art is cool. Favorite Songs: Grumpus amd What Else Could It Be?

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Nov 13 2025

This is outside of my usual listening but I cannot deny the quality. Very fun album. Favorite Song: Vamos

Too Rye Ay by Dexys Midnight Runners
Nov 14 2025

"huh I only know come on eileen, wonder what else is on here" *proceedes to hear an hour of 'run along eileen,' 'go go eileen,' 'hurry now eileen'* A little too reductive but that sound is very consistent through this entire project. I loved the strings Favorite Songs: Old, Liars A to E, & Come on Eileen,

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Nov 19 2025

Never been the biggest fan of The Killers - I think Mr Brightside is best as a group Guitar Hero song and ain't what they chop it up to be otherwise. There's more versatility here than I anticipated and that was cool -esp for a debut. Favorite Song: Everything Will Be Alright

Floodland by Sisters Of Mercy
Nov 20 2025

This 2 is more for my level of enjoyment and not the objective quality of the sounds. Just kinda kept going but for no reason.

Playing With Fire by Spacemen 3
Nov 21 2025

Not enough acid at my 9-5 to enjoy this while working through Excel and my email... Im sure theres a reason this is on the list but its a hard one for me to jive with on a deeper level after only one listen.

Fisherman's Blues by The Waterboys
Nov 23 2025

This just isnt something I'll ever like in any universe or any timeline. The music is really fun but I just cannot get into the lyrics or vocalist at all. I don't often stop these albums but "And a Bang on the Ear" was my out.

Nov 24 2025

Truly couldn't imagine getting home from the store and popping in this album to hear "Take On Me" as track 1 in '85. Makes me wonder if it was an immediate hit or if pop culture made it more of a song now than then.... The rest of the album doesn't really hit the same highs or energy as that but stays consistently entertaining. Didn't expect to learn the origin of "Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia"'s namesake on an A-ha album... The second switch up on "The Sun Always Shines on TV" was a welcomed surprise! Favorite Songs: Take On Me, The Sun Always Shines on TV

Viva Hate by Morrissey
Nov 26 2025

Oh boy more Morrissey! His voice is still so unique even with so many other voices between the last album on this list. Unfortunately, I don't really care about anything he's got going on and none of this left a lasting impression. Nothing bad but mostly apathy other than some cool strings and instrumental moments.

Low by David Bowie
Dec 02 2025

I was going to write something here about the album but when looking at the Wiki track listing to get the track names right, I saw that Brian Eno was on my highlight song - Warszawa. So I'll just say: All tunes, especially on this list, lead to Eno

Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan
Dec 04 2025

I like Steely Dan. I don't dislike this album. This album feels like unrefined Steely Dan. There was nothing special about this album.... at all...

Nick Of Time by Bonnie Raitt
Dec 05 2025

I can't tell if I'm getting numb to new music or if were rolling dud albums. Not for me really. Any time the instrumentals would pick up, the lyrics would put me off - eg. Real Man. Favorite Song: Too Soon To Tell

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Dec 09 2025

A hip-hop blind spot for me - I recently listened to De La's latest album Cabin in the Sky but had no context on who they really are. On first listen for 3 Feet High..... I wasn't super impressed. I understand and agree with the inclusion of this album due to the contrast it presented against gangster rap but I grew up in a post Kanye world where all of that perception has already been torn down and opened up what a "rapper" is. They rap in such an 80's lyrical miracle way that I'm sure was super fresh n different then but just feels ANCIENT now. The production however, is incredible. Today, after 1 listen, its a 3/5 but with an understanding that I'm probably just not adapted to this sound and will eat those words once I learn the members and their stories better. Favorite Song: Transmitting Live From Mars into Eye Know

Arular by M.I.A.
Dec 10 2025

I hate M.I.A. and there is no changing that. I like her vocal experimentation, I like her samples, I like her production, and I hate the finished product. I will never be an unbiased reviewer for M.I.A. Favorite Song: Bingo

Smash by The Offspring
Dec 16 2025

One of the first concerts I remember was Dropkick Murphys opening for The Offspring June 28, 2009 at Freedom Hill in Metro Detroit. All I wanted to do was play my Nintendo DS but instead the energy exploded, people were moshing, tops were off. It was a crazy experience for a 4th grader... This album has always been one of my Dad's favorites and was frequently on when working in the garage. Personally, its never been my genre or flavor but I can respect it. The nostalgic bias makes this a 4 for me even if some of the songs don't really matter too much to me (Genocide, So Alone). Favorite Songs: Come Out and Play, Self Esteem

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Dec 18 2025

Never heard of this or any of these songs but I enjoyed it. Nothing life changing but it didn't need to be. Favorite Songs: I'm Glad, Autumn's Child

Dec 19 2025

This album is embarrassing and I gave up at "Such a Twat." From external reading, this is an album that grows on you but Mike Skinner fails as an engaging MC with lackluster production tying it all together.

Dec 23 2025

An album I am so beyond exhausted with. An art school soundtrack for sure but man I am sick of hearing these songs everywhere. Its a testament to their versatility complimenting the nostalgic feeling these songs evoke. Congrats to MGMT for making a timeless revenue machine. I look forward to ~5 years from now when this isn't overplayed and is fun again. Favorite Song: Kids, Electric Feel Also, shoutout to Frank Ocean for Nature Feels

Dec 26 2025

While I get some people hate xmas music and especially hate Phil Spector... I was floored by how many of these recording are THE definitive versions of these songs. The only bad songs here are their version of Rudolph and Silent Night doesnt really work as a shout out track Favorite Songs: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) and I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

Heroes by David Bowie
Dec 30 2025

Bowie has been on my list for a while and this project has gotten me through multiple albums at this point and I've come to the conclusion that I enjoy Bowie, but love Bowie/Eno. Favorite Song: Blackout

Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
Dec 31 2025

This album is cool but due to the type of guitar or the way it was configured (I have no idea how that works) I kept hearing Edgar Winter's Free Ride especially on Wait Until Tomorrow and it distracted me. You Got Me Floatin' sounded like it in reverse. Not a lot that was extremely memorable in isolation but I enjoyed it as a whole. Favorite Songs: One Rainy Wish, Little Wing.

BEYONCÉ by Beyoncé
Jan 01 2026

I feel like she has nothing to say and when she finally did on ***Flawless, it was just a bad song and feels so contradictory to the 4+ slut anthems that played before. Im cool with slut pop n stuff but I'd prefer it have an underlying message or theme if youre going to parade being a strong woman otuside of sexual energy.... Just not for me. Drake's verse sucked. Frank Ocean was here and thats cool but it didnt elevate the song. Favorite Songs: Drunk in Love (Remix>>), Partition

Autobahn by Kraftwerk
Jan 02 2026

Kraftwerk has been one of my favorites from this series of albums. Not someone I put on often but when they pop up I know itll be entertaining and chug along nicely. Autobahn is more of that enjoyable energy but in one long track. Cool stuff, not a ton to say about it.

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jan 03 2026

I wasn't convinced in the first few songs but it grew on me fast and I bought it. Not a ton I anticipate returning to but it was very fun top to bottom. Does NOT sound 1978 at all. A 4 might be too much but a 3 feels disingenuous Favorite Songs: The Beat, Living in Paradise.

On The Beach by Neil Young
Jan 06 2026

We've had quite a few Neil Young albums and none of them really did it for me but this one was excellent. Favorite Songs: On the Beach, Revolution Blues

Jan 07 2026

Never listened to Cee-Lo before (outside of his unavoidable hits) the whole thing was smooth asf! Nice to hear new-to-me Neptune production too Favorite Song: Childz Play, Lets Stay Together

Scott 2 by Scott Walker
Jan 09 2026

He feels like Christmas music but boring. I wanted to get immersed but never really could. Maybe it was my environment or mood but did nothing for me. Cool variety of instrumentations though

Good Old Boys by Randy Newman
Jan 12 2026

I like Randy Newman at times. This album's narrative caught me off guard as I didn't do any research before jumping in. The Toy Story man slingin' a hard-r took me for a second. Then the album title made sense.... Some of these are cool but overall they left me wanting the writing and variety from the prior album we did "Sail Away" On a "meta level" its interesting watching the reviews for this tank as its subject becomes more and more topical.

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
Jan 13 2026

The album is too sonically stagnant for me. Each song sounds like an SNL legally distinct parody of itself. Didn't have the lyrics to get deep with it either. Nebraska >>>> This

The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Jan 14 2026

Never been the biggest early west coast rap fan but can appreciate the craft and novelty especially for the time. Its been a few years since I've listened to this and I was surprised by how many Snoop Dogg features there are here - that man did a lot. Favorite Song: Deeez Nuuuts (wish the intro skit was a separate track though)

Jan 15 2026

Yes is cool but they tend to do a lot of nothing on a long runtime at their worst. The first song got really cool and grandiose but the others sounded like rejects from other projects. Disappointed as it could have been so much more than it is.

At Newport 1960 by Muddy Waters
Jan 16 2026

I really have been enjoying these live blues albums even if they don't contain a lot that I throw in a playlist. Love that new-to-me expression "put a tiger in your tank" what a golden old person thing to say.

Graceland by Paul Simon
Jan 20 2026

Not really for me but consistent in its quality. Would be a good soundtrack for going on an adventure with someone I love but idk when I'd throw this on otherwise.

Guitar Town by Steve Earle
Jan 21 2026

A little to yee yee for me in the winter. Might hit on a boat with some drinks

Ellington at Newport by Duke Ellington
Jan 22 2026

I just really like these live jazz albums. These are all new to me but hearing some familiar parts is fun.

Jan 24 2026

There really isnt much left to say about this album. Its amazing and a major blueprint for the 2010s soundscape. The features blend the 00s into the 10s mega stars in a way only Kanye could have curated. The production is incredible with a wide range of samples and original compositions interwoven in a masterclass of Hip-Hop. I think its funny the global reviews are like "Sometimes you gotta separate the artist from the art to enjoy something" and its like ???? Not with Kanye. Here, My Dear by Marvin Gaye
Jan 30 2026

I was enjoying it overall but the album really found its groove at "When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You?" and it just kept going from there. Its a fun narrative on heartbreak and the swings of emotions that immediately follow. Favorite Song: You Can Leave, But It's Going to Cost You

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Jan 31 2026

Some great stuff on the first potion but it just kept going and going. Kashmir and In My Time of Dying are all timers.

Live At The Regal by B.B. King
Feb 03 2026

Yep still loving these live albums. So much fun and so much energy even all these years later. “Help the Poor” is most certainly where “Black Magic Woman” came from but i can’t find anything online and feel crazy for that. Favorite song: How Blue Can You Get?

I Against I by Bad Brains
Feb 12 2026

Some really amazing guitar over nonsense songwriting with a vocalist that feels out of Star Wars more than the 80s….

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Feb 14 2026

Never listened to this entire thing before but familiar with half of it. Hard to say anything bad about this one. Money for Nothing is a potent commentary on the woes of riches. It also has an important video for the development of CGI use. Walk of Life is a great song to follow MFN by talking about an average man's experiences day to day. Your latest trick is a new one to me but I loved the guitar here. The Man's Too Strong has such killer sounds its been a semi-recent find for me before this. Brother in arms is also a new one for me but is a great sonic conclusion to what came before while not wasting its inclusion just to end the album. Ive ended up talking myself from a 4 to a 5 with this review. Banger album.

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
Feb 17 2026

This just SOUNDS like 1969 - for better or for worse. I didn't hate it but expected more due to years of hearing their name. Without Warhol's name would they be as relevant today? Favorite song: What Goes On

You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.
Feb 18 2026

Not at all what I was expecting and not a genre I know much about. Didn't know these rock sounds had been so established by then it felt out of the 90s to me. Cool stuff but just not my genre

Rust In Peace by Megadeth
Feb 19 2026

Did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. It did however make me feel like I had a green monster in a '05 Mustang with spray painted rims

Off The Wall by Michael Jackson
Feb 23 2026

This is probably my favorite MJ album; and thats mostly due to the first two tracks. "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" is a top tier song. The strings are just *Chef's Kiss* I will die on the hill that "Rock With You" is a perfect song and could be played anywhere except a funeral and be a hit. Brass and general funk on "Get on the Floor" is infectious I cannot believe Tyler, the Creator didn't get sued for "Ring Ring Ring" for its similarities to "Off the Wall" "She's Out of My Life" is a welcome change of pace. Gotta sulk a little sometimes before returning to the dance floor. The last 2/3 songs kinda slow down and feel too Bruno Mars to me in 2026 but that's a testament to MJs impact - At worst, this album sounds like one of the biggest modern musicians.

Parachutes by Coldplay
Feb 24 2026

Probably would have slapped in 2000 but in 2026 its a little samey. A nice winter album though. Maybe I'm not depressed enough for this one right now? Yellow is an all timer though. I also really liked the final track "Everything's Not Lost" it felt like a refined Randy Newman song

Feb 25 2026

~2016/17 really did long term damage for my enjoyment of Queen.... That said, this project is still solid. Killer Queen has never been a favorite of mine but I did enjoy it in the track listing. Favorite Song: "In the Lap of the Gods...Revisited"

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Feb 26 2026

My first full introduction to Bob Dylan and there's some awesome poetry and writing but I just can't jive with his enunciations and songwriting. This album just made me want more Nick Drake. I did appreciate how detailed the Wikipedia was for this album. Favorite Song: Fourth Time Around.

Le Tigre by Le Tigre
Feb 27 2026

God this made me want to steal some five o'clock vodka and eye liner then end up in a binge montage. Cool stuff, committed hard to the sound and had an unpolished and authentic shine.

Boston by Boston
Feb 28 2026

The first half of this is incredible even after hearing all of these songs my entire life. Truly timeless. Second half slows down and gets a little samey but still tight. Favorite Song: Rock and Roll Band

Pelican West by Haircut 100
Mar 03 2026

I read the global reviews for this and expected it to be way cornier than it was. There's some really fun things here! The jazzy sounds with their poppy 80s writing really stands out today. Even the saxophone used like this dates it but its endearing to me. Really nothing bad to say. Favorite Songs: Marine Boy, Kingsize and October is Orange

Being There by Wilco
Mar 04 2026

This is going to be an unfair rating but its just too melancholic and long for me to get into this world and characters. Just not my space right now. It sounded quality but made no lasting impact.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Mar 05 2026

I saw this and said "Are we really going through an entire album for one song????" but then loved most of this album. "Lost in Music" was my favorite.

Ogden's Nut Gone Flake by Small Faces
Mar 10 2026

Opening song blasted me with GTA V nostalgia but unfortunately that was the peak for me. I enjoyed some stuff but no stand outs.

Street Signs by Ozomatli
Mar 11 2026

This is the most 2004 shit I've ever heard in my life. The acoustic ethic melting pot from that peak "omg everyone were ending racism :))))" era millennials believed in. Rap verse on the first track threw me for a loop - kinda went crazy on that beat. The layered chorus on "Who's to Blame" is specifically funny to me. "Saturday Night" 1st rapper wants to be Malice on a Neptune beat soooooo bad "Ya Viene El Sol" record scratching is awful on top of a boring ass song I did get down with "Nadie Te Tira" but it wasn't enough to save this album

Here's Little Richard by Little Richard
Mar 12 2026

Music like this feels wrong to rate in 2026. Its so removed from our current sounds and just feels like a flash in the pan these days. No song specifically stood out to me as special but they were fun. A little samey to me but never outwore its welcome.

Hms Fable by Shack
Mar 13 2026

A lot more endearing that the cover would suggest. Started to lose me in the end but just still hardly a genre for me. Favorite Song: Comedy

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Mar 14 2026

From reading the wiki this is an extremely important album that due to my native language and family ethnicity, I currently cannot even begin to understand the significance of. Some bangers in here though even without any translations. Favorite Songs: Pedro Navaja, Siembra

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Mar 18 2026

Starting an album with "Paint It Black" is wild and really set the bar too high. I've learned since that it was a decision for the US release and now I wish I had done the UK version. Stones have never really been my thing but I have nothing bad to say. Favorite Songs: Paint it Black, I Am Waiting

Rip It Up by Orange Juice
Mar 20 2026

The global reviews are right. This is just thrown out talking head tracks and they're pretty boring. Noting too negative but i do not see the use on this list. 2 feels harsh but get it outta here Favorite Track: I Can't Help Myself

Cut by The Slits
Mar 21 2026

I enjoyed this one top to bottom in the moment but don't anticipate a return or thinking about it much. No standout tracks but I can respect the novelty for the time.

Mar 22 2026

One of those albums where the 5 point scale kinda sucks. A 4 feels too passionate but a 3 feels dismissive of its successes. I wish there was more of a chorus structure here - something to look forward to during the meandering prog rock. A resolutions or something. I found myself lost in the sauce at times - sometimes in good ways but often kinda missing the point. Favorite Songs: "Dancing with the Moonlit Knight" and "Aisle of Plenty"

Pump by Aerosmith
Mar 24 2026

I don't know if its because Disney's Rock 'n' Rollercoaster is being rethemed from Aerosmith to Muppets or just Steven Tyler's face but all I picture with this is the muppets singing these songs... Its another one of those albums: You already know the hits, you'll never think of the other cuts again.

In Rainbows by Radiohead
Mar 26 2026

What's a Radiohead? Still a blind spot that this list is slowly filling in. I don't think this is the masterpiece its been built up to be (only did 2 listens so what do I know) but its good. Very consistent and thought out concept. Im sure the more pretentious spots will grow on me but today they were a tad distracting. Favorite Songs: Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, Faust Arp

The Next Day by David Bowie
Mar 27 2026

Bud shoulda stayed retired... Bowie with no Eno is a no go for me. None of these songs did much for me at all. Felt like an imitation of himself. Nothing is bad here though. Just another Bowie album in this list and not a great one at that. I have heard blackstar is great so maybe he just needed to get the rust off with this one.

The White Album by Beatles
Mar 31 2026

I just simply am not the man for this album. It drags and feels extremely scattered at its worst. A cut down version would work for me. At its best however, I really see the mastery and legacy. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is one of my favorite Beatles songs. Blackbird has stood the test of time, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da is so much fun. Just not a Beatles guy at the end of the day but the hits hit for me. Favorite Song: While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
Apr 01 2026

What a delightfully warm and idyllic place to be transported to. Something right out of an old movie. Initially, this was a 4 but after listening to it 3 times, its a 5 for me. Just when the solo jazzy sounds start to get old, they add vocals. Favorite Songs: The Girl From Ipanema, O Grande Amor

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
Apr 02 2026

I didn't expect to enjoy this too much but once I recognized the intro song that sampled in James Blake's new album Trying Times (My 2026 AOTY so far) I knew it was going to be great. Something about the way he has accepted his mortality but still holds on to some of the silly mistakes from his 82 years of life. This album releasing 17 days before his death really adds a weight to this album that I didn't expect. Favorite Songs: You Want It Darker, Traveling Light

Simply a relic of its era - couldn't help but giggle at times but due to its absurdity not its comedic value. The music was pretty horrible. My Way was the only one that makes this a 2 instead of a 1.

Mothership Connection by Parliament
Apr 04 2026

Nothing to complain about here. Funky fun. Favorite Songs: Mothership Connection (Star Child)

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Apr 05 2026

Huh never knew "Heads Will Roll" came from this as I was only aware of the hype remix. Fun sounds, vocalist gets a little shrilly but I think it was more of a mixing issue. Favorite Songs: Heads will Roll, Runaway

Lazer Guided Melodies by Spiritualized
Apr 06 2026

I try and do every album top to bottom to give the soundscape time to be established and adjust my expectations but this one lost me at Symphony Space. Its not lyrically or musically challenging - its just sounds with a run time.

One World by John Martyn
Apr 07 2026

I think this one just came at the wrong day. Didnt make a big splash

Closer by Joy Division
Apr 08 2026

It sure was sounds that could be called music. Way too monotone for me. Rather listen to Molchat Doma thanks tho

Junkyard by The Birthday Party
Apr 09 2026

Anything with Rat Fink is a red flag. This album sucked.

Leftism by Leftfield
Apr 10 2026

Not a great cover art for this one but I actually enjoyed it more than I expected to. Feels primitive to the electronic sounds we have today but not in a bad way.

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Apr 11 2026

Love these live jazzy albums so much though this one starts to fall off at the end for me. No standout songs but the ambiance is set well.

Behaviour by Pet Shop Boys
Apr 14 2026

Surprisingly.... boring? static?... for the Pet Shop Boys. This album just kept chugging along but it never really stood out. Like a decent score it wasn't intrusive or abrasive but never really stood on its own.

Histoire De Melody Nelson by Serge Gainsbourg
Apr 16 2026

Jane Berkin hopping on the track wasn't expected. Never heard of Serge but hes cool. The instrumentation was great and I need to go through this again with translated lyrics. I enjoyed it for what it was!

Live At Leeds by The Who
Apr 21 2026

Some good stuff but kinda blended together. Nothing really amazing

The Rise & Fall by Madness
Apr 28 2026

Do I like Our House because I already know it or because its the stand out song? Do I know it because its the stand out song or just because its been in commercials? These are the questions this project has you asking on 3/5 albums like this. Maybe it should be 500 albums and 500 singles... Tiptoes was cool too

Shadowland by k.d. lang
Apr 29 2026

Sounds MUCH older than 1988. Makes sense some of these are covers but I didn't realize that at first. She has a great voice but these are just not songs for me. Certainly channeling that oldies sound. "Busy Being Blue" was a welcomed change of sound and pace. This feels 80s.

Future Days by Can
Apr 30 2026

This was cool and improved once I got in the car vs sitting in the office. Lots of fun layering and effects. Could have been condensed a little but I respect the indulgence.

Now I Got Worry by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
May 02 2026

Its like if Elvis was in the 90's on Earl Sweatshirt type beats. I thought I hated it but it grew on me. Nothing life changing but has its merit.

Femi Kuti by Femi Kuti
May 03 2026

Yeah why not lets boogie Favorite Song: Survival

Beautiful Freak by Eels
May 05 2026

I hate the album art. Truly one of the worst from this list so far. It set my expectations for some real crappy 90s guitar. It was better than i expected and tapping into my love for the Shrek soundtrack gives it extra credit. Still not really my thing but not the garbage I went in expecting.

evermore by Taylor Swift
May 14 2026

I know that rich people have feelings too but I find Taylor's woes to be so hard to see parallels with. I don't find her voice to be terrible but the way she uses it like a slide whistle just doesn't fit the instrumentals at all. Speaking of, I found the instrumentals to be boring and safe. As many risks as Kermit on the log. Just something here that does nothing for me. I don't even see the nuggets that make her career as colossal as it is. Just not for me and that's ok. Favorite Songs: Gold Rush, Coney Island

Trio by Dolly Parton
May 16 2026

Im not sure if its because I just finished new 3 Drake albums back to back but I liked this. This has squashed my beef with Emmylou for her participation in the crimes against my ears on Grievous Angel. Dolly is just too charming to dislike and these gals work well. Favorite Song: Those Memories of You

May 19 2026

This felt like a lot but not in a bad way but hard to match the energy at a desk at work. Favorite Song: The Heat

At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
May 21 2026

I can appreciate a lot of this but for a Live album it doesn't have a lot of fun interactions and sort of meanders around

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
May 25 2026

While never my favorite Pink Floyd album as a whole, with 1001+ albums, it certainly deserves a spot here. Have a Cigar is amazing and Wish You Were Here is one of my favorite songs ever. The textures on this album are top notch. My issue here is that I have never been able to really latch on to Shine On You Crazy Diamond in the ways I feel its intended. Its good, unique and exploratory but I find it just doesn't stick the landing.

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
May 26 2026

Went into this going "ugg I hate Fast Car" but after actually listening to it closely for the first time and seeing its place in the album, I have a new respect for its message even if I still don't think its an amazing song. It is heartbreaking that this album from 1988 sings about how close we are to some real change in America but here I am in 2026 with the death of the Middle Class approaching and the K shaped econ booming.

Actually by Pet Shop Boys
May 30 2026

Sort of convinced this is only here because of Its a Sin but ok yeah its not bad. Very of its era but nothing I hated.

Oedipus Schmoedipus by Barry Adamson
Jun 01 2026

Not nearly as captivating as Moss Side Story and I do not feel this should be included on the list. Some great moments though such as A Moment of Clarity. You could tell me Achieved in The Valley in The Dolls was a Halo 1 track with some added drums and I'd believe you.

Go Girl Crazy by The Dictators
Jun 03 2026

I loved this for what it is! Very unexpected but it was a lot of fun. The guitar on Teengenerate was insane. Cars and Girls is my new summer whip anthem. Favorite Songs: Teengenerate, Two Tub Man

The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips
Jun 04 2026

Lead singers vocals are so bad I had to stop. Awful.

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Jun 05 2026

This is my first time listening to Jeff Buckley and I was really surprised by the quality and depth here. Some amazing stuff. My only issue is his vocals occasionally teeter into the Jacob Collier icky pretentiousness.

Guero by Beck
Jun 18 2026

Ill be honest and say I didnt give this the most honest of listens but man do I really find Beck to be an absolute snoozer. The worst guy in the comic book store. The man arguing over 50 cents at the grocery store.

Jun 24 2026

Jun 25 2026

This bumped, wish my French was good enough to get it. Might need to go back with lyrics. This review is mostly on the beats and general vibe.

Jun 30 2026

Not really my thing but a lot of depth to it! Some really fun music too. Hard to deny the quality. Favorite Song: Thousands are Sailing

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Jul 01 2026

This bumped - cant even be made that a few of these are covers bc they're great versions.

Supa Dupa Fly by Missy Elliott
Jul 02 2026

Worse than the other album we had "Under Construction" but there still is a lot of fun here. Missy glides on some of these Timbaland beats but I just struggle to connect with her as a leading MC. Favorite Song: Friendly Skies

B-52's by The B-52's
Jul 12 2026

I think Rock Lobster is a bad song and this album is too corny. Its too dated and for a different generation and just feels old. There are some fun sounds but nothing comes together. The generational equivalent to YouTube poop songs and thats ok. We all need fun.

Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
Jul 16 2026

Started really strong but teeters off at the end. Still cool but didnt wrap up how I wanted. Favorite Song: Someone Great

Jul 17 2026

I was working on cleaning and repacking reviews and grooving my ass off to this. Favorite Song: Too Young to Die, Music of the Mind

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Jul 18 2026

I expected to get bored of this one as this soft, gentle 60/70s stuff kinda loses my attention but this slapped. Lots of fun harmonizing but it comes off as the template instead of a parody. Top Songs: Cecilia, The Boxer, Why Don't You Write Me

Jul 24 2026

Its messy, its lo-fi, it might benefit from a remaster but these beats go hard. Lots to love here on a project I've never heard of anyone involved with. Favorite Songs: Bladerunners, Takes More than 41 Favorite Beat: Airwave Hysteria

Queen II by Queen
Jul 26 2026

Yeah this sure is Queen - 2016/17 did too much damage to my enjoyment of Queen and 10 years later I still am kinda sick of 'em. Unsure if the album is better towards the end of if I just acclimated to the soundscape but I really started to enjoy it. Favorite Songs: Nevermore, The March of the Black Queen

Jul 29 2026

I went into this expecting some lame guitar stuff and maybe it was due to those expectations but this was great! Lots of fun layering and instrumentations that I didnt expect. Guitar is sick on here, some jazzy sounds. Favorite Songs: Tamalpais, What Are Their Names, Song with No Words

Don't Stand Me Down by Dexys Midnight Runners
Jul 30 2026

I get the goals, didnt really connect with the results. Doesnt belong here but whatever, 1000+ albums sure is a lot One of Those Things clamoring "It all sounded the saaaaaaaaame" over Werewolves of London's riff has only aged better with the lasting relevance of Sweet Home Alabama, Kid Rock's version and even now Don Toliver's Sweet Home. I'm certain there are even more too.

Post Orgasmic Chill by Skunk Anansie
Jul 31 2026

I don't think I know any black, British rock so this was a nice perspective to encounter. Not really for me but I cannot deny an objective quality.

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Aug 01 2026

Every time Run show up on this list I initially get whiplash with how primitive the songs are. Then 3 or so in, they just click. A 4 might be a tad strong but a 3 feels disingenuous. I cannot believe Fergalicious is NOT sampling/interpolating You Be Illin' they sound so similar - im on to you Will.I.Am Favorite Song: Peter Piper, Raising Hell

Palo Congo by Sabu
Aug 04 2026

I have no idea what any of this was about but man did I groove to some emails.

Sheet Music by 10cc
Aug 05 2026

I really like their sound but the actual songs and writing are kinda cheeks and not for me. I know the one guy on campus that thought this was 2000 IQ comedy was insufferable in 2007. Favorite Song: The Saco-Iliac

Feast of Wire by Calexico
Aug 07 2026

First of all, the album art is awful and does not match the music. It started with indie guitar and I was worried I was going to hate it but it rapidly changed. Black Heart is great - those stings are awesome. Robot to Guero Canaelo was a great run too. I really liked this by the end of it. Favorite Song: Crumble

It's A Shame About Ray by The Lemonheads
Aug 12 2026

One of the most generic 90s albums yet.... Its really not bad but their #1 is a cover so the vibe was set. Nothing really stood out good nor bad. Really should NOT be on this list.

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
Aug 13 2026

The texturing and layering on Shout and Everyone Wants to Rule the World alone make this a 4

A Seat at the Table by Solange
Aug 15 2026

Somehow never knew this was Beyonce's sister. I liked this more than Beyonce's self titled that we did months ago. This wasnt my favorite but I bet it would grow after a few listens. Any album with Sampha on it gets extra love from me - check out his latest album Lahai if you liked his sound here.

Hysteria by Def Leppard
Aug 16 2026

Interestingly my dad went to a tribute band concert for this album the same day.... crazy. Lots of great songs here but the album is a little long and starts to blur together at the end. I think a strong 8 songs instead of 12 would make this really tight. That said, its great as a whole with a lot of iconic songs. Favorite Songs: Animal, Love Bites, Hysteria

Aug 18 2026

I just love Eno so much but man some of these songs are goofy. So much texture and depth in the production with the most random lyrics. By This River is 100000000% an inspiration for C418's Wet Hands Favorite Songs: Here He Comes, By This River
