Folk Pop, nice lyrics, music pretty boring, certain instruments annoying at times.
Harmonika (eeek), Songs way too long, feels overrated
Fav: Desolation Row
Nice harmony singing. That‘s it.
Fav: Country Girl
Masterpiece, was and will be.
Fav: Night Swimming
I do not know, if I be ever grown-up enough for this kind of music.
Fav: The First Taste
One of my favourite albums of all time!
Fav: Fell on black days
Yes, it‘s Hendrix, but that rhythm section is outstanding.
Fav: Foxy Lady
Two godly Songs and some „oldschool“ funk rock. Really long songs.
Fav: Sign o the times
Little surprised that I knew three Songs, but not the Band. Nice Beat/-Popmusic.
Fav: Kicks
Great record!
Fav: Plateau
Still annoying after all these years.
Fav:-
Imagine David Bowie and Talking Heads decided to make a record. Ah, and young Sonic Youth were also there. :)
Fav: Baby‘s on fire
In my opinion the third best Album by Hüsker. But it‘s a masterpiece.
Fav: Ice Cold Ice
R.I.P. Mr Wilson. Unfortunately, surfin‘ ain‘t my type of sport.
Fav: A day in the life of a tree
The title says it. Great Voice, lyrics cheesy at times. The songs are so short, it feels like a snippet tape, sometimes.
Fav: (You make me feel like) A natural woman
First time listening to this great record, that I always refused to listen to. Dont know why, shame on me.
Fav: Soft shock
Not as bad as expected, but definitely not meant for me.
Fav: Don‘t give up
Nice little Folk-Album, had never heard of it, before. I think „mostly harmless“ describes it pretty good.
Fav: The Little Beggar Girl
Nope.
Could not get to the end.
Fav:-
Did not expect it to be that bad…
Fav: -
Never gets old.
Fav: Black Dog
A modern classic. Well, does not sound modern at all, but full of hits and classy tunes.
Fav: I just don‘t know what to do with myself
I hate the Stones.
Fav: -
That is the Album I would have needed in my youth. But stupid ‚me in the past‘ was into Metal…
The Music works brillant, as long as you do not google, what Morrissey turnes into.
Fav: There is a light that never goes out.
Might have heard this Album too often.
Fav: I‘m only happy when it rains
Unfortunately, it did not age very well. Here and there it reminds me of elevator music.
Fav: Jealousy
It has the hits, but the rest is pretty boring.
Fav: Money, Money, Money
Great record with tasty beats and good lyrics.
Fav: I left my wallet in El Segundo
Never understood that Doggy-Thing. Maybe because I do not have the biggest n*ts?!
Fav: -
Nice.
Fav: God only knows
I did not know, what to expect, knowing only Elvis‘ recent music. It is classic Rock and Roll, some Soul and RnB and sometimes it sounds like it was written for TV sitcoms.
Fav: Welcome to the working week
Alltime favourite.
Fav: Too many to mention
I do not think, the Stones and I will come together any time…
Fav: Paint it black
A surprise. When it came out I read it was retro and psychedelic and I was turned off. Was I stupid (again), it’s beautiful!
Fav: Skeleton Key
First Listen. More Dub than I thought, more of a compilation than an Album.
Fav: 19-2000
Really great proto-Punk Album and an influence to so many Bands.
Fav: I heard it through the grape vine
Not into Hip Hop, but this was pretty exciting.
Fav: The Magic Number
Solid Album, but I don‘t get the orchestra Tracks? They feel totally displaced.
Fav: Old Man
Almost everything I hate about 80s music combined in this Album. Remarkable.
Fav: -
Not the best by Sabbath, but a classic. RIP Ozzy!!!
Fav: Supernaut
Better than I expected. Besides the awful Singles, It has some nice tunes, but overall it has too many tracks and is very polished and produced to hit the charts.
Fav: B.O.B.
So much better than Nevermind.
Fav: Frances Farmer will have her revenge on Seattle
A fine Rock Album. Sounds way ahead of his time.
Fav: Young an innocent days
Again, Mr Costello used some sounds that were common (Alt Rock) at the time of this Album. It’s good he did, otherwise the songs would have been too similar.
Fav: Kinder Murder
So many classics and, of course, one of the best Pop Songs ever written.
Fav: Bohemian Rhapsody
Great!
Fav: Five Man army
Whats a surprise. Avangardistic, artsy but also rocking.
Fav: Paris 1919
A classic. Although I am not a fan of including live albums in this collection.
Fav: Space Truckin‘ (But only the first five minutes)
I just cannot understand, why Dylan is adored by so many people all over the world. I really gave him chances over the last two decades, but it does not work out for me and him. This might be the album I „like“ the most. It has some solid Tracks, but Mr. Dylans „singing“ just does not work for me. Plus, every time I hear a harmonica, it feels like waterboarding. Sorry…
Fav: I want you
Great musicianship and catchy tunes. Cant believe that it must have been a pain in the a** being part of the band.
Fav: Rikki don‘t lose that number
Poor Amy made so many wrong decisions in her career and in her life. R.I.P.
Fav: -
Some kind of folk album by Mrs Harvey. The stripped down song arrangements are pretty nice, most of the time (well, not the trumpet. I know what she wanted to say, but it's hard to endure). Unfortunately, I do not like her singing on four or five songs. That is a pity, when the voice is clearly the most important thing on a Lo-Fi record. The lyrics...well, they gave nothing to me. I don't wanna say, they are bad, but I really feel no need to dive deeper into war themes and countries invading other countries, right at this time. But this is not Mrs Harvey's fault. So I am conluding with the old british saying:
Make tea, not love!
Fav: The words that maketh murder
I was a little afraid to listen to this Album, that I was growing up with, 25 years later. But what can I say...still one of the best Hip Hop albums I know. The Beats are brilliant and raw, Chuck D one of the best MCs. Flavour Flav annoying at times, but without him it would not be Public Enemy.
Fav: She watch channel zero?!
I like it. Oldschool, often minimalistic beats made only with percussion. The lyrics a sometimes a little childish, ironic but the things you hear in newer rap songs are already here.
Fav: It's like that
It's too much. Everything about this Album is too much. It is too overproduced for a solid Rock record, too boring to be remembered (except for two tracks), too many recorded tracks on most of the songs and the lyrics are too bad. They can thank Big Lebowski, that they are still around. A meme, that's what it is.
Fav: Life in the fast lane
Quite a surprise. Did not expect anything (was even a little afraid of the record, but it was fun. The songs remind of 00er Indie-Songs, Foals "Antidots" came to mind and the lyrics are frightenly accurate for present times. Keyboards/Synths sound a little trashy sometime, but it was 1981. I like it.
Fav: Geisha Boys and Temple Girls
More of the Same. Second half of the Album is way better than the first, but still not my cup of tea.
Fav: It‘s alright, Ma (I‘m only bleeding)
None of his big hits on this album, but it works pretty well as a whole. Some spheric and repetitive elements which were new in his sound cosmos, but it fits. Not my favourite by Bowie, but a good one.
Fav: Station to Station
That's the music your parents (or probably grandparents?!) put on, when they were making love in the seventies.
Fav: Let's stay together
Never heard of Skepta, but while hearing I recognized two "songs". Most of the songs sound very similar, nice QOTSA-Sample, though.
My neighbour has a DAW, and the beats he is "producing" sound pretty much the same as on this record. Well...
Fav: Shutdown
I was surprised I did not know the band. Some Brit Pop/Rock with rich instrumentation, sometimes too much. Mostly harmless.
Fav: Daniella
I know, I know, it‘s the King. But…meh.
Fav: Blue suede shoes
Times were different.
Fav: -
Reminds of CCR, Allman Brothers and the Strokes. Not perfect but waaayyyy better than the mainstream trash they were releasing years later.
Fav: Trani
These guys were insane in their very own and positive way. Did not care about genres or styles and just did what they wanted. I also like the fact, that they put 43 songs on that album, just because they wanted to cash in more money off Spotify streams. F*ck the System, Yeah!
Wow. Second try for TV on the Radio. This time it clicked, I gave the songs the time to develop and it was amazing. A wild mixture of Indie, Soul, Post-Rock, A Capella...you name it. It goes together so well.
Fav: Dreams
Never been into Beck, but this Album is great, although i read, that it is not representative for his other work. Anyways, good one.
Fav: End of the day
Did Isaac Hayes invent Post-Soul?
I try to see the art apart from the artist, to a certain amount of my own moral point of views. That being said, I just cannot listen to songs named "Baby be mine" or "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" by Michael Jackson, without an awful pain in my stomach. So, the album might musically be real good, but that is not what I am rating here, as I cannot and will not listen to it, again.
...meanwhile at the production meeting: "So how about you, playing some songs that are already famous?! But maybe we add something new to it..like screaming?"
Fav: The Witch
One of my earliest MTV-memories is the clip "Tennessee" by Arrested Development. I loved it back then as a ten year old. Still love it. Great album.
Fav: Tennessee
I gotta focus more on the positive things: Gimme shelter is a good song.
Fav: Gimme shelter
This did not age very well. The long instrumental parts, songs are very long, sound boring nowadays.
Fav: Little red corvette
Man, was I sad when Kyuss called it quits. But man, was I happy when Mr. Homme returned with that album.
Fav: You Can't Quit Me Baby
In his few best moments, this album sounds like a plain rip-off from the Beatles. The rest is hard to listen to. And the lyrics? Come on…
Pardon my french, but this is boring af.
Fav: rien
Not bad, I would not call it prog. More like when dad wants somerhing more challenging on the weekend. I liked it.
Fav: Dreamer
They ended on the highest note. Great album.
Fav: Tea in the Sahara
My Grampa always says: there is not enough anus in todays music. Now I know what he means.
Fav: Get it on
His best Album, imho. More organic, more rock and really good Songs.
Fav: When doves cry
Never heard of Dirty Projectors, but it blew my mind. Finding an album like this is the reason, why I joined this club.
Fav: Remade Horizon
Overdose on N-Word? Besides that, it was not as bad as expected.
Not a fan of Jazz and especially not when a Big Band is involved. So sorry...
Great rock Album and probably The Who`s best Album.
Fav: Won't get fooled again
Perfection!
Fav: Born under punches (The heat goes on)
Grew up with Post-Punk and this is really nice. I like the wavy influences.
Fav: Dumb waiters
If you‘re looking for Dad Rock, this is for you!
Fav: Something in the Night
Okay, did not expect them to appear here. It's trash.
No idea why this album is featured. Some generic, boring sixties band, like many others.
Hm, this sounds conspiciously like Lurleen Lumpkin, but worse.
A voice like no other. Some songs pretty similar to others, but not bad.
Fav: Four Women
Great album with strong retro-vibe, but sounds so modern at the same time.
Fav: Electric Feel
Did not stand the test of time. Oh, and f*ck Eric Clapton.
Love it. Lo-Fi, guitar and drums but such great songs.
Fav: Hotel Yorba
Not into Reggae. But aside from this, I think the songs are rather boring, all samey and without songwriting „finesse“. Maybe you need to be stoned to like it. Idk.
Hearing „Cinnamon Girl“, probably Young‘s heaviest song, got me hoping for a fine Album (although the cover by Type O Negative is soooo much better). But then the old Neil came back with his songs somewhere between Country and Rock and Roll Solo-Guitar masturbation. What‘s hilarious is, the one song, where he is singing about killing his wife/girlfriend. And then in the next song he is crying about how hard love hit him and what a poor mf he is, now that she is gone. LOL.
Fav: Cinnamon Girl
I wanted to like Devo very badly, but somehow it did not click. But I guess it‘s okay.
Fav: Uncontrollable Urge
Track 2: Sweetest Perfection
…says it all.
Fav: Enjoy the silence
I love the Black Keys, but this is one of their weakest Albums, imo. The Songs feel a little harmless and three or four songs less would have been better.
Fav: Howlin‘ for you
Okay, I did not expect that, but I really enjoyed this Album. Well, maybe except the high pitch tremolo singing, but I heard outstanding bass playing, nice harmony guitar leads and really good songs. The lyrics are goofy, but they could be worse. Nice.
Fav: Children of the damned
Not as good as four, but on a level with three. On some days as good as one.
Fav: Bring it on home
Not as good as I remembered it, but still solid.
Fav: War Dance
Yes, that was boring and repetitive. The lyrics are a little, well, one dimensional!?
Fav: That‘ll be the way
I guess you have to be in the right mood or have the right substances to appreciate this Album, the way it deserves. First couple of tracks are way ahead of their time and are foreshadowing later alternative and experimental music. After that it gets totally weird and hard to listen to. But the closer is great again.
Fav: Bring me coffee or tea
Probably the best live Album ever recorded. JC owns this prison.
Fav: A Boy named Sue
Great Album. Experimental tunes stand beside great catchy rock/pop songs.
Fav: The Murder Mystery
I slowly come to believe that Mr Costello made up the 1001 Albums project to support his own music. I think this is the third Album I listen to. Again, no masterpiece but not too bad either.
Fav: Goon Squad
Just listened to the Album an can‘t remember anything.
Ramones have always been the „epic“ Punk band, I liked the least. Songs sound very samey and the overall sound feels pretty harmless. There were better band options imho.
Fav: Let‘s dance
What a stupid idea to feature an „Album“ that runs three and a half hours. Did not listen to it.
This is boring as can be. Oh, and f*ck Eric Clapton.
They can play and sing it all. Unfortunately I get the feeling, that they did not care much about writing good songs. It is more like "hey, I got 173 ideas, let's play them one after another and call it an Album". And like this their musical abilities become a showing off of their skills, which bores me after some time. But there are really beatiful parts in certain tracks.
I really like the later Beastie Boys. This is annoying at best. Sometimes the songs feel like they couple be a new one by The Lonely Island, which isn‘t a good thing.
So many different genres, and Beck does em all. Dancy and melancholic, some Folk, some Rock, Electro and HipHop. Great one.
Fav: Devil's Haircut
Boring mainstream pop with some oriental influences. Not special.
Album doesn't hurt nobody. From a music theory standpoint, the songs are very interesting and "Superstition" is a banger.
Fav: Superstition
Sorry, the sax makes it almost unhearable for me. Had to cut it.
One of my favourite bands, great Album!
Fav: Weird fishes / Arpeggi
Some people listen to podcasts to fall asleep, others take medicine. I strongly recommend this album.
Classic. Little overplayed with obvious flaws. Covers are better than their own songs, so good choice.
Fav: Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam
Quiet Indie-Rock, bit boring at times. You need to be in the right mood for it.
Fav: Catch the sun
This was a big letdown for me back then. Haven‘t checken them out since.
