Probably a bit too modern to be on this list of user favorite albums but yet here we are. A pretty good pop album. The singer has good range and is a blend of Leon, Taylor Swift, Kesha and Adele. Not as talented as some on that list but the influence in this album is obvious. The album has fun pop anthem female empowerment songs and that’s enough to build a following and sometimes plenty of critics. Nice average pop album. Doubt I’ll revisit it though. 5.5/10

A fantastic album that’s always fun to listen to, which is partially why I picked it for my album. This was really my third choice as the first two were already selected. I felt the list lacked a lot of strong modern rap music that has shaped modern culture. This was my choice as for me it’s a culmination of the gangster rap and lyrical conscious rap by Gibbs mixed with funky and soulful best productions of Madlib. This album flows so smoothly and its biggest drawbacks to me is some of the skit portions at the end of songs. Other than that it has impeccable features from older and newer artists to really make this a great album of the past and future. O’Doyle rules 9.3/10

I thought this album was a bit odd until I realized it’s an accompaniment to a play. In that sense it makes sense why it sounds the way it does but it still doesn’t make the album all that enjoyable. It’s like not being part of an inside joke. The Justin Vernon songs weren’t bad. 4.6/10

Now this is an old school album that probably should have been on the original list. I’ve heard of Patti labelle and heard lady marmalade many times before but really this whole album was impressive. Was shocked that this is actually a trio and not just Patti by herself. The range on the songs while also being funky and soulful was great. This is a great add and one I would revisit. 7.6/10

Now this is a nice start to the user albums. An unknown indie project that is as much funk as it is chill. This was a pretty solid album that I never heard of before and will revisit again. A nice modern take on indie music that blends genres with different styles. 6.9(nice)/10

This is some interesting prog art rock instrumental combo album. This is definitely a complex album and there were parts that I thought were peculiar while others I enjoyed listening to. This isn’t something I would revisit but it was definitely interesting. 5.0/10

One of the best and most nostalgic albums of the 90s. It’s impossible to ignore how good sublime was at making songs that felt like summer. This album is a bit long on the back end but it has some of the best hits alternative has seen and they’ve held up over the years. 7.8/10

This was some decent rock punk music. Definitely not as hardcore as some of their other albums or other punk bands but that’s what made this album more enjoyable. Less thrash and more technique in the instrumentals always makes me enjoy the punk sound more. this was decent but not great. 6.2/10

If I grew up in the 70s I could see how I’d really enjoy this deeper cut band of diverse rock. Over time it seems they’ve become more unknown and would definitely be considered underrated. They don’t do anything that’s too crazy or different but this album has a few different styles of rock that show the bands talent. Overall it was pretty good and unfortunate this band isn’t more popular. 6.7/10

This was a pretty wild album. From the album cover I assumed it was going to be kind of trash. Then when it started it and I had my bootcut jeans on and spiked my hair and rocked out. This is the perfect music for your dive bar. It’s not great but it has its moments where it’s plenty of fun. This gives Nickelback a run for their money. 6.4/10

This was a pretty solid album. Not sure if I’d call it a punk album. There were only a couple of songs that felt somewhat punk and also I actually liked it compared to most punk albums. Maybe it’s modern punk then because some of the songs were more typical to a indie rock. The Irish accent in the songs actually made it stronger and gave it some character in the story. Overall I’d revisit it and good choice. 7.0/10

Not shocked to see a Bon Iver album on the user submitted list. He’s definitely one of the more iconic modern artists with his unique style. This album I wouldn’t say is his best but it’s definitely one I like and also very experimental. Overall this is a catchy and brilliantly artistic album that deserves many re-listens. 8.2/10

One of the best albums of so many people’s childhood/teens/early adulthood . Blink 182 was able to capture so many people with their garage punk rock sound. This album has at least 4 major hits and emus easily their best album. Everything about growing up in the late 90s early 00s can be heard through this album. A nostalgic album that still rocks hard today. 8.4/10

Pretty solid 80s album by one of the biggest bands at the time. The user list is basically just everyone’s favorite albums from the times they grew up listening to a lot of music. This 80s pop album was probably immense when it came out. I don’t hear much of it now but overall it’s pretty good nothing really bad about it but not sure how much I’d revisit it. 6.5/10

This was a unique and definitely interesting themed album. It felt like a neutral milk hotel album but without the varying instruments and catchy parts. Overall it was a bit bland and made me Feel like a peasant because I couldn’t hear any exciting instruments. I wouldn’t revisit this and it’s too artsy for me. 4.3/10

This was fine to me. Nothing really amazing, just seemed like a hipster album with a story intertwined. I’d say that the devemberists are one modern band in a style of music I like but none of their songs have really wowed me. Doubtful this would be revisited but it’s not bad. 6.1/10

If you’re listening to this and wondering what does any of this mean, then you perfectly understand what makes Ann Arbor great and awful at the same time. Mix in the quirky ness of weird comedy in the 00s, 5 artists from U of M and you get this album. It’s easy to see exactly why they didn’t maintain their popularity as the quirky comedy trope died in the 00s. And lastly, Go Green! Biased rating but this is rough. 2.5/10

This was a nice retro album. It didn’t feel too prog rock like and more stunted to an instrumental 70s classic rock. Overall it was pretty good, and I listened to it several times as it was pretty easy going. None of the songs were bad. I didn’t find myself wanting to listen to any one specifically but they flowed together quite well. 6.3/10

This was an album I could not find enjoyment in. It felt like if a teenager was told to make an electronic album for Disney channel. It was very upbeat and poppy but it just felt very juvenile to me. Not something I would revisit. 3.8/10

Listening to this and I felt like it was a bit ahead of its time in comparison to the 00s and 2010s alternative. This is classified as power pop which is an interesting take on it. I don’t find it very poppy but it has upbeat instrumentals and the lyrics are pretty good. I found this to have a range of styles and sound that resembled some modern bands. If they came out with this album now they’d probably be bigger than when grunge ruled music. 7.0/10

This was my first choice of albums to add to the user list but somebody else beat me to it. How one of the ingenious and creative rap albums of all time didn’t make it in the original list I will not know but this album is amazing. The production mixed with MF DOOMs lyrics make this album like a rap version of kind of blue. It’s so well done and innovative that nothing compares to it. RIP DOOM 9.3/10

This also had me. The first song with Curtis mayfield was actually pretty decent. I thought it was going to be a funky pop album. And then every other song proved me wrong. This was something that really confused me. Not sure what most of these songs were but to me they were bad. This is a never revisit album for me. 2.4/10

They’ve had better albums but this one was still alright. I never loved death cab but they made some popular indie alt music in the 2000s. Overall this was what happens when you have too much talent but nothing to write songs about. Some of these songs just felt like they were talking about whatever they saw. Good catchy indie pop but nothing amazing. 6.2/10

To make this was a less talented sufjan album. Augustine really has one style this whole album and while the lyrics were pretty good, after about 3 songs it felt one note. This isn’t something I’d revisit. There are better artists that do the soft singing style better. 4.5/10

This feels like a lot of the modern pop music that I’ve been forced to listen by my SO however this one is a bit less up beat and more melodramatic. Something about foreign artists that have good vocals that really enjoy having a melancholy style of music. I’d be more inclined to listen to Benee or some other pop artists than this album. It wasn’t terrible, but it’s just not my taste. 5.3/10

There have been a lot of international albums on this list while also a lot of weird albums on this list. Here we have an album that is both of those and just incredibly difficult to enjoy. No idea what’s going on and glad it’s over. 1.1/10

We lost a legend when we lost Jimmy Buffett. The man that made the island life so cool. This album is great. It’s not the poppy Jimmy Buffett, just the laid back guy with the island sound. The back half of this album is great and has some classics. I’ll listen to this album along with many other Buffett albums whenever I want to escape or am escaping to an easier life. 8.4/10

I really enjoy the style the lumineers have. It’s perfect for all the modern day hipsters. Aside from that they make good folk pop music and it’s enjoyable to drive and listen to their albums. This one is a good example of that easy and upbeat lyrics. Catchy tunes and choruses. All around fun stuff. 7.2/10

What’s better than 1000 gecs, 10,000 gecs? Not too sure if any amount of gecs is considered great but some people love these guys. Maybe I’m just getting older and don’t know what good music is anymore. Or maybe it’s the kids who are wrong. Either way This is not for me. 4.1/10

Procol harum is more interesting in name than they are in their sound. I’ve always felt they were the more boring side of prog rock. This album isn’t much different. It’s a softer rock style that seems flat and not too diverse in range. The album blended together and it went through a few times before I realized it’s being repeated. All in all not bad but just way better options in the late 60s. 6.0/10

This album in 06 was pretty huge. John Mayer was able to combine beautiful guitar work with pretty simple pop music. None of it is that deep, breakup songs. Love songs anti ware songs but it’s done in a simple and tasteful way that can enjoyed today. Overall this is a solid album and a classic from the 00s. 7.5/10

I usually really enjoy 60s music and psychedelic rock but this was what happens when guys try to take the sound of other popular bands and do it themselves. Just a total miss on this one. Not really sure there was one standout song. You hate to see it. 5.0/10

This was like if you had Pink Floyd and genesis combine for an album. It was perfectly in the mix of prog rock and 80s pop rock. It wasn’t bad or anything but I think being in the middle with their sound made it less appealing than going one way or another. Overall it was okay. Nothing great but the sound was familiar. 6.7/10

This was a pretty average alt rock album. Some of the songs sounded vaguely familiar but it was hard to say where I heard them before. This wasn’t anything amazing from the alt rock standards and it blends nicely with other 00s music. This gets the job done but it’s not something I’d be rushing back to listen to. 6.3/10

It was shocking to me that this album wasn’t on the original list. It’s one of the biggest and best albums from the 10s. Whoever added this made the right choice. I do love this album. I used to listen to this all the time. I have found myself listening to it a bit less the past few years but it’s still a fantastic album that I’ll listen to whenever. Sampras second album is a masterfully produced and fantastic composition of an album. I prefer Sampras first album but this one is also still excellent. He has a unique sound of modern production with soulful and strong lyricism. I will listen to both of his albums but the first one just a bit more than this one. 8.3/10

This was a rough album to get through. Not sure if I enjoyed any of the songs on this one. It was something that felt like garage punk and alternative metal mixed but without any of the positives. The lyricism was definitely weird and the instrumentals weren’t catchy or impressive at all. 2.6/10

in a world with enough silly pop music this album somehow has avoided me my whole life up until now. This isn’t bad it’s just generic mid 00s pop music and I’ve heard that stuff growing up. This one was a brit pop album so that’s probably why I never heard it but I’m not going to revisit this. It’s not terrible just not for me. 4.0/10

What if gangster rap was done by a poet. Well then you get this album. It’s full of street references and clearly appeals to a certain demographic. Mustafa a message is good and understandable but the way it’s presented falls a bit short with the soft tone and chill instrumentals. 4.5/10

Korn is one of those bands that didn’t pull any punches with the music they made. Intense, vulgar, and graphic lyrics are present in this album and that can definitely deter some people. However, music like this is life to some people. These harsh realities are what people don’t want to hear when they listen to music. Korn didn’t care their hardcore nu metal sound is the perfect way to implement their dark lyrics. It’s a well done album and there are some pretty solid songs on this album. Whenever I’m in the mood korn can be a good listen. 6.8/10

This was an alright album. I’d say better than the last eels album but a lot of the songs on this didn’t stick out in any memorable way. It was a well produced album with good instruments it just fell a little short of me capturing the essence of what other people find great it in. Overall it’s fine but I wouldn’t revisit it. 5.8/10

I don’t even have a joke for Norway that’s how uncommon it is. Took me 2 songs before I realized it’s in another language and my brain wasn’t collapsing. Not quite sure how I’m supposed to interpret an album that is supposed to be known for its song stories when I can’t understand the lyrics. Listened and moving on. 2.0/10

An absolute manger of an album. Weezer made Pinkerton for the music nerds but made the Blue album for everyone else. The songs are quick catchy and fun. The album is relatively short and quick but it’s pretty exceptional. A great choice for the list and should’ve been on the original. Either way this is Weezers best album and really a top album from the 90s. It still is great. 8.6/10

This was a pretty odd album. Being in a genre called noise rock sums it up pretty well. Not sure why a disjointed muddled sound would be considered a good idea yet the mates of the Jesus lizard thought it would be. I couldn’t get into this album. It was messy (probably intentionally). 4.7/10

This was a pretty decent album. It’s like if Bruce Springsteen made modern alternative music with an Americana style. The album cover definitely threw me off a bit but I thought the instrumentals and lyrics were actually quite good. Based on how it’s rated I’m shocked it isn’t more talked about or popular. This seemed like an incomplete album. As I listened to it felt like it was missing something. I get it was an electronic but other electronic albums have more substance. This was just the base layer of something that could’ve been better. 2.2/10

As much as I like Bruce’s music a 2 hour live album of songs that have pretty much already been covered is a bit redundant for this list. I’m starting to think the user albums are half albums people like and half people just making others suffer. This was a decent live album lots of good instrumental solos that were nice but the songs were already visited. 6.0/10

A decent album by the hilariously named Garbage. I’ve heard of a few of these songs before mainly in movies but this whole album was not that bad. Pretty shocked it was nominated for album of the year so not sure if it was a down year or the Grammys used to have taste outside of the top 40s. To me there’s better 90s alternative out there. This was a bit too upbeat yet trying to be edgy for me. I’d rather have more hardcore instrumentals with these lyrics. 5.9/10

This was a fantastic album and one I’ve listened to dozens of times before. Gambino was one of my favorite artists in the 10s and this album is exactly that is. This album wasn’t as pop rap as his previous albums and not as experimental and R&B as his most recent two. It’s got the right blend of soulful production with catchy, gimmicky rap lines. The only draw back of this album was it was a bit long and some songs didn’t fit into play as much but overall this is exceptional and I’ll continue to listen to it. 8.6/10

This is the type of music I wish I was able to find more often. Just some funky fun reggae music that is so smooth and fun to listen to. Aside from Bob Marley I’ve found that reggae is either hit or miss but when it hits it’s oh so good. This album was a pleasant experience and I enjoyed it and listened to some more of the upsetters after. 7.2/10

This album had all the makings to be great but it really felt incredibly average. The instrumentals were fun and upbeat but also very timid. The lyrics were pretty uneventful and the songs that were catchy made little sense. Overall it failed to stand out. Was nothing special to me. 5.5/10

This was some lame 80s pop music. The repetitive lyrics and Richard Simmons feeling production had me wanting to skip some of these songs. Not the worst thing I’ve listened to but definitely not my speed. It was pretty meh throughout and won’t be revisiting this. 3.9/10

I would imagine I would prefer a funk metal album with heavy bass lines more than a traditional metal album but this did not flow well for me. Part of it was the lyricism just didn’t fit for me and t was hard to enjoy. The other part was it starts off so abruptly odd that it was hard for me to recover and enjoy it as it progressed. Not a likely return but not terrible. 4.6/10

This wasn’t much of a jazz album so whatever oncle is that had a big impact on the sound. The singer was very chill and soft which made it easy to listen to but the songs blended together and before I knew it I was halfway through my second listen. The instrumentals weren’t anything spectacular just chill to match. Overall it wasn’t bad but for me I doubt I’d revisit it as it isn’t the kind of chill I like to chill to. 5.5/10

What’s the difference between the DMV and the DMB? Not too much as you spend way too much time on it and you come out of it feeling better than other people. To me the DMB was a late 90s cult of listening. It was the non-grunge intellectual music that people felt different listening too. In the late 90s that may have been pretty cool, but to me it just seems like a white dude taking styles from all over and saying check this out. Were different. But was it good? Not exactly. 5.2/10

This was way more fun than I expected but an appropriate amount of fun from a band named oingo boingo. My first couple listens I thought this was some silly 80s pop album but as the day progressed and my alcohol intake increased I found myself enjoying this album and it being a treat of melodic silliness. Overall not too bad. Just the right amount of weird. 6.2/10

This just wasn’t for me. The hyper pop and synth sound of the 80s was heavy in this and it didn’t resonate with me. I found the upbeat music and fast paced lyricism to be dated. Even though this was 79 it listens like 80s and the 80s have always been hit or miss with me. This one was a miss. 4.5/10

Was a bit shocked this band was Australian because listening to them I heard influences from Springsteen and the Killers. Their sound is pretty similar to Bleachers with the spoken cadence singing and varied instrumentals that progress in tempo through the songs. Overall I enjoyed this quite a bit and think that Australian indie pop/rock is a great genre and many unknown bands are in it. I listened to this a few times and even some of their other music but this was their best work it seemed. Very good and enjoyable. 7.5/10

not a bad indie rock album but I wouldn’t say it’s doing anything that hasn’t been done before it. None of the songs were that exceptional to me or had me thinking about how unique the sound was. It was really just middle of the road which for this list isn’t that bad but probably wouldn’t revisit. 6.1/10

My first thought when I listened to this album was could you imagine if this was your friends favorite album and every time you visited or got in their car they were itching to play this album. Thankfully this list only requires one day of listening to whatever that album was. A wild collection of songs that were like if Tom waits stopped smoking and was part of a cult. 2.8/10

Id imagine the person that picked this album is a pretty big fan of Pink Floyd. I like this album but it does have the noticeable differences of it being a solo project. In an alternate world this was done by Pink Floyd and the wall was the solo project of Roger waters. I’m glad this was the solo project. It’s a more personal concept album and works as a solo album yet Waters could use some stronger help from Gilmour. Overall good but not as good Floyd. 7.0/10

Well that sure was a depressing album but that was kind of the point right. Not everything can be sunshine’s and this album did a good job of showing the darker side of people and the decisions they make. A bit of a drag at times but overall not too bad the grunge indie sound is solid and obviously very Seattle. A good deeper concept album for the darker days. 6.6/10

If you want old time jazz then this is what you want. 1920s swing jazz with Louis is clearly a historical fest and very important but to me the old time jazz is a bit bland and missing some of the spontaneity of later jazz that I prefer much more. This isn’t bad and it sure it has had major cultural impacts but it’s nothing id willingly revisit if I wanted to hear jazz. 6.4/10

This is the kind of folk music that makes me think of goofy hipsters. The generic and bland lyrics make this album a bit laughable at points. This is more of a movie soundtrack than an album but then again the artist literally makes movie scores so that makes sense. Guess everyone has their own flavor but this one is not one I seek out. Not saying it’s bad, it’s just not for me. 4.5/10

My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy are the two bands that really tell you if someone grew up a millennial in the early 00s. This whole album is more of a nostalgic vibe than it is a good standalone album. It’s a bit long, the emo-pop sound goes more emo on some and more pop on the ones that are fun to listen to. This album has some solid creative marks and some overall really good songs. Not sure if this whole album will hold up over the years but some songs will. 6.8/10

There’s already been a bit of overkill on punk albums. And live albums are always divisive so the combination of a punk love album isn’t anything worthwhile. Maybe the person who submitted this was there. Not sure what else would make someone want to choose this since 90% of punk albums have already been on this list. Good energy though but not something I’ll revisit. 4.3/10

Sufjan is an excellent song writer and musician. The range among his albums is pretty wide and varying to the point where it’s easy for people to have different favorites. Carrie and Lowell is a great album and the category is a bit more sad and darker than what most music is about. Sufjan uses his soft style of singing to really make the album shine. Overall it’s a great album and Sufjan music is impressive. 7.9/10

This was an unexpectedly great album from an artist that I’ve never heard of before. The poetic Americana style had some excellent storytelling within the songs. Overall this was something I’d revisit as the Americana genre has been something I’ve found so raw and heartfelt. This album has all of that with the simplicity of the singer songwriter quality. 7.7/10

This is what I’d imagine stereotypical dub is like except it’s not a stereotype it’s the real thing. Just some funk dub beats with some dub lyrics for 35 minutes. To me it’s a very unique style of music that is probably best listened to while under the influence of a specific plant. Overall though it’s fun and easy going. 6.1/10

Well that was a bloody mess (pun intended). Not quite sure what they’re going for here or if there’s just a big sect of Dracula metal enthusiasts but I may not be the target audience. The summer breeze cover was also an interesting interpretation. Overall this album was like a chopped and screwed version done by white people about their weird hobbies. 2.7/10

This wasn’t nearly as good as the other Marillion album that was on the original list. The song has a good voice, but for an album that’s over 90 minutes it had plenty of time that was dull and fell flat. They’re like if Creed had a complex similar to The Smiths. It’s just an odd combination style wise that makes this album not that great. 4.5/10

This was alright but the amount of punk I’ve had to go through really makes this less enjoyable to listen to. Kind of ironic how many punk albums are on this list and even user submitted, you’d think it’s the most popular genre and mainstream. Overall this one was pretty good with The female lead and the punk instrumentals. 5.9/10

One of my favorite modern artists. These guys are the pinnacle of Dad Rock as to me they’re like if Floyd and Dylan had a child with all the modern music making abilities at their potential Lost In the Dream is my favorite of their work but this one is so chill and soothing. Can be put on whenever and it just rocks. Will always enjoy listening to them. 8.9/10

Imagine have the musical talent to make a prog rock album about a collection of poems from a real dark mind and make it fun. That’s apparently what this is. If only they did a collection of albums from famous writers what could have been. This was interesting, really made some poes literature less spooky when you have a nice bass line. 6.3/10

If you’re only gonna make one album as a band it helps when the album is as good as this one. With the soft emo style of singing mixed with the electronic indie this album is pretty solid. Such great heights is a classic and has plenty of replay value. The Phil collins cover on this was also pretty well done. This album definitely brings back some memories. One of the first CDs I’ve ever owned, I used to listen to this album a lot. For a kid this is a great blend of rock music with easy to understand lyrics. That was as a kid, now I found the album to be nostalgic, but nothing more than some very generic genre blending of Christian and pop rock. 2003 was a simpler time for music as the popularity of this shows but it’s not 2003 anymore and this is already a bit dated. 6.6/10

Feel like a lot of the user albums are more of the nostalgic music people listened to a lot growing up. I never heard of this album before but I’d imagine if I grew up in the 80s this would be a popular one. To me this was some boy band solo artist 80s new wave stuff that was pretty dull and didn’t have any of the flair of the better new wave music. 4.3/10

This was someone’s favorite album?!? Uhm alright, maybe they’re were a 90s break dancer. Idk but this album was pretty dated and overall lame. Just felt like a compilation of a bunch of beats with words thrown in the background. Listening once was tough. 2.9/10

Never heard of this band before but I thought they were alright. Extra points being from Detroit, but their biggest drawback was definitely the singer. Everything was pretty solid for a modern alternative band but the singer just didn’t have that factor that want had me wanting more. Overall it’s still good. 6.5/10

This was a surprisingly decent album. Never heard of the band before but the grunge garage rock sound with the sound of distortion like the Beatles revolver was a pretty cool combo. Overall it was pretty decent. Not sure how much I’d revisit it but it’s not bad. 6.2/10

This was a bit of a snoozer. 15 tracks of some semblance of life in Texas. Didn’t really hit the mark for me as the singer has a sort of strained style of singing that feels like a Bob Dylan knock off. Plus the lyrics didn’t seem all that special. This was a miss and wouldn’t revisit it. 5.1/10

Another man from Michigan that made some of the best classic rock ever made. Bob Seger knew how to make music for driving, rocking, partying, relaxing. You name it. In just 40 minutes he was able to go up and down with strong emotions and rhythms. This is a fantastic album and maybe a couple songs that aren’t great but everything is good. 8.3/10

This was a nice chill brass jazz album. Easy to listen to and enjoy. Overall it was well done and jazz that I like to hear. 6.4/10

This was a pretty unique album. Felt like a rhythmic slam poetry session but with less slam and more political agenda. Overall it was okay but I couldn’t really get behind the way the singer enunciated so hard in some of his songs it was like he wanted us to know he’s smart. That’s great but good music is better than smart music sometimes. 5.3/10

This was a pretty cool and unique of soul, R&B with a bit of rock and folk. It had a lot of different tempos. The j instrumentals were solid and June has a very nice voice. All in all it was pretty nice to hear something new and this good while still being modern. 7.0/10

This is the kind of 80s music that doesn’t excite me much. The cool guy singer songwriter that sings about tales of unique life. To me it’s just an album of blow hard music with more unique instrumentals and rhythms. Nothing too exciting on this one. 5.4/10

I wasn’t able to find this album so I tried several other songs by this artist and I came to the same realization. I plant have mattered if I listened to this album because I wouldn’t have understood it. The beats and rhythms clearly match the African artist and I’m sure they’re good. Don’t have much knowledge to compare them. Overall this wasn’t for me. 2.4/10

This is just lofo electronic music. Hardly even music if you ask me but some people apparently love it. To each their own I suppose but this was background music for background music. This could be in for 8 hours and I probably wouldn’t notice. 1.9/10

I’m shocked I never heard of this band before. They got the alt rock 90s sound so well and they felt like a less whiny version of REM. Clean instrumentals and crisp lyricism makes this album a very simple one to enjoy. Overall this was a solid and id definitely revisit it. 6.9/10

There was something about women’s 90s music where they really unleashed their raw emotions and problems into songs. Overall this album was very similar to Morrissette but just like Alanis, I didn’t care for this album either. This one was actually less poppy and more melancholy. All in all not for me. 4.3/10

An oddball album for sure. You have the funky music white boy and a Beatles cover. What is this album other than a bunch of dudes just playing what they think is good music. It’s not bad just so obviously 90s. This felt like if you took ska and tried to make it work for a wider audience. Meh. 5.3/10

The user albums started off so good and lately it’s been a weird combination of international and oddball music. Here we have a combination of both which really just begs the question of who chooses these albums. This just wasn’t for me. It’s not a rap album. It’s not a rock funk album. Not quite sure what this album was trying to be but to me it wasn’t good. 4.0/10

Never heard this album before but it felt like a light grunge alt rock album. The instrumentals were decent and had some hardcore moments but all in all wasn’t the full grunge sound. The drawback was none of the songs really stood out to me and got me rocking along. It was always toeing the line of real good that never really got there. 6.5/10

This is simply music for the theatrical people. This feels like something you would hear on an off off broadway show where you get a 10 minute introduction about the journey and how everything’s a metaphor for the new wave apartheid. Ok maybe that was a bit much but that’s exactly how this album is. It goes a bit further than the musical realm and brings performance too. If you’re into that then this is for you. 4.6/10

A decent modern folk album that is a bit more somber. Overall it’s a well made album that has strong lyricism, and nice smooth guitar work. Rice has a very calming and emotional singing voice that really highlights the highs and lows of the lyricism of the songs. This was pretty nice. 6.7/10

Is it possible to listen to EWF and not have a good time? I don’t think so. This is a solid album with a classic in boogie wonderland. This album has more funk and soul in one song than some do in whole albums now. EWF can never be recreated. They were locked in in their era and provided some of the best soul music ever. This is a solid album. 7.7/10

This was a decent album with a modern alt pop sound with some retro sounds. I thought it sounded a bit like the killers but maybe that was just Brandon flowers. It does have a good indie pop sound with that modern weirdness that makes newer music interesting. Pretty decent. 6.8/10

This is a pretty fun and groovy compilation album from some solid producers. This is like some older less electronic version of Jungle. The assortment of instruments and production is great mainly due to different people and their influences. This could easily be played for hours in the background and it would be enjoyed the whole time. 7.0/10

This is quite a quirky band. I’ve heard instanbul more times than I’ve wanted in life and this album is like a less cool, less catchy version of that song that makes me feel like this band is trying to stay relevant again. This album wasn’t really anything special and was not my style of alt rock music. Not planning on revisiting this one anytime soon. 4.7/10

a But before my time and probably why I don’t have as much for this album as others might. B-52s have some good songs and are fun but this album doesn’t have any of the major catchy hits to grab me in. Overall it’s very 80s new wave pop but just dated for me. 5.5/10

These guys are like chameleons with music. They play every genre and churn out albums like bands did back in the 70s. Overall this one was pretty cool. I like the transitions in songs and thought the general alt rock style was solid. Felt like it was 80s mixed with modern style. Overall a cool album. 7.2/10

The last 00s era blink 182 album where they went out on top with one of their best songs on thid album in I miss you. Feeling this was one of my favorites as it was in some nhl game I played as a kid. This album isn’t nearly as good as enema of the state as it has an odd interlude and different styling choices in songs on the back half of the album. This is solid but not nearly as good as a couple of their earlier albums. 7.6/10

Alexisonfire is one of those 00s emo scream bands that was right in the middle of melodic emo and screaming thrash. Dallas Green helps bring the tone down on Alexisonfire’s albums that make me enjoy them, yet I find his city and colour to be lame. Yet impressive the musical range and audience he reaches. The instrumentals are solid and are expected from a heavy rock band of the 00s. Crisis is probably my preferred album as it has their more palatable songs but this album was also very good. I enjoyed most of the songs. 6.9/10 (nice)

The UK grime rap style is a unique one compared to the various us styles but it has good lyricism. The biggest downfall I’ve always felt was the beats seem one dimensional and it makes UK rappers just sound like he’s free styling. Overall it’s a good album and for it being his first is pretty impressive too. 6.2/10

This is an interesting album. It has the sound of style of British music prior to the 2000s but feels like more it could get lost in the mix with all of the other alternative albums. I thought this was alright. It took styles from over the years but didn’t really do anything crazy with them. Just melded them for an updated alternative style. 6.3/10

i probably would’ve enjoyed this one quite a bit if I understood what was being said. The beats were really exciting and fun to chill to but overall it’s hard for me to enjoy the album without knowing what’s going on. 3.5/10

A little bit before its time with the metal core style but also after the numetal died down this was a tough transition that was for a niche crowd in the 00s. Feel like they’d have a better following now but overall the metal core sound is hit and miss for me and these guys are a miss. Just too messy and not quite what I like in metal music. 5.0/10

Was this cool in 2005? Maybe. Is this cool now? Not at all. The modern lyricism with some of the folky style music was a terrible combination and it just felt like a teenager who learned the word pussy and cock saying it as much as possible. Not great 2.6/10

Fantastic album by a great band. I prefer their second album most as it’s the perfect combo of fun instrumentals with funky beats and just enough lyricism to keep me interested. This album has that in a couple songs but not all. Some of the songs are pretty chill and don’t expand more than that. But still a solid listen. 7.3/10

Early 90s indie music was a totally different vibe from the modern indie. This has some good folk sound mixed with classic British sound but for me I found the album pretty dull and bland. Overall not something I’d revisit or ever seek out but still an interesting listen. 5.3/10

Very much an 00s album with the soft pop style that feels like it wavers between emo love songs and displaced youth confusion. It doesn’t shock me a song from this album was used on the OC. Fits the time perfectly. Unfortunately it seems like more and more music from the 00s is not standing the test of time and is a pretty lame era of music. This included. 4.4/10

This was pretty chill. Not the best ska style but not the worst. It was a decent album. Not a ton to say about it. Just some mid 00s vibe that some people probably loved. 6.1/10

Of all the female led indie music that’s come out over the past 10 years bug thief was never one that really grabbed my attention. This album had the same effect as I didn’t mind listening to it but it didn’t ever make me want to come back to a certain song or really dig deeper into the lyrics. It’s pretty simplistic album that is executed well but not something I’d revisit. 5.5/10

This is modern indie prog rock and I do not love it. The bigger than life concepts have been around for a while but this felt like took that a step further with this album. Some songs were quick and other were way too long. This album suffered from being disorganized. It’s an adventurous attempt but falls flat for me. 5.8/10

A nice and simple pop folk country album. The 90s country styles really bisected with either honky took cowboy songs or the artistic rural simple life country theme and this one goes with the ladder. It’s a nice album that doesn’t push things too far and has a nice simple place in the music world. 6.3/10

This mostly hard rock instrumental album had an interesting playing style and mood overall. Very laid back but also a bit aggressive with the distorted guitars. Some songs dragged a bit and it. It was a pretty cool album to hear but not sure how much I’d revisit it. 5.9/10

A solid album by one of the better indie rock bands of the 2010s. Vampire Weekend is like when that good looking person you hate is really smart and really good at everything they do and when they talk to you they’re nice and you realize you don’t actually hate them. Contra has all of that and more. It’s fun, beachy vibes with some good modern lyricism. However this is probably my least favorite of their albums. VW is a good fun band. 7.5/10

When the grunge is grunging and you want to be slightly different you call yourself Midwest emo instead. This was basically the closest alternative to a grunge album that had a more simplified and approachable sound. It still had solid guitar riffs and upbeat songs but just not as hardcore as grunge was during this time. 6.4/10

This is one of the better foreign films I’ve had to listen to while doing this list. I wish I understood French to better understand this album because this had everything I would like in an album. It was chill, catchy, simple yet unique. Really the only drawback was I had no idea what’s going on. 5.4/10

Krautrock is a great name for a sub genre but unfortunately I did not love the kraut work. The crazy instrumentals was enjoyable here and there but overall I found myself storming out a lot of the album. Doesn’t help I don’t speak deutsch. 4.1/10

This is a solid folk album by two ladies who understand the sound and what it takes to make a cohesive folk album. Simple and expressive while having somewhat deeper lyrics. Overall a good easy listen. 6.5/10

This album has no right being as good as it is. It’s 2020 pop with rap level production and typical overt weeknd lyrics. But on after hours everything comes together so well. I heard this back when it came out but never really revisited it until now and there are so many fantastic pop songs on this. A future classic. 8.1/10

Wish I was able to enjoy this album as much as other people did, but I could t find myself interested in it. It is very cool an aborigine made this and it’s unfortunate that after he died did it really make an impact on the charts. Either way this isn’t for me and I wouldn’t listen to it again. 2.7/10

This album isn’t like previous arctic monkeys albums which definitely was a shock first time listening to it. It’s a unique lounges rock album but the lyricism is vastly different. I still prefer AM to this album but this is still solid. Its uniqueness makes it its own but this is pretty good. Very fittingly 4 stars out of 5. 8.2/10

A very unique album that is kind of in its own realm of genre with being gery late 70s/80s like in the operatic theme but with the 90s introversion. This album started off a bit weird but gains some steam and is a pretty decent listen. Overall a different album from so many on this list. 6.4/10

Aside from this being pretty depressing and dark the music itself was also pretty blah. The soft pop folk style was very much lyrically based which made some of the songs a bore to get through with the bare bones instrumentals. Overall this is not something I heard before and really could’ve went without. 3.8/10

There’s just something about this album that makes it so great and it’s hard to describe. Maybe it’s the lo-fi sound. Maybe it’s the wide range of instruments used. Maybe it’s the lyrics that resonate with a lot of early 20 year olds where their music taste is still molding. Not sure why I and other people love this so much but every time I listen to it I enjoy it. It’s a great album and one of my favorites. 9.4/10

This was far more impressive than I expected it to be. Sucks his album got leaked and then it ruined his motivation. If this ended up being finished this really could’ve been great because even with the demo tapes it’s still pretty good. 6.7/10

A good hardcore album that is really becoming the new metal style that people are into. This is one the softer side of the genre shockingly but I found that a little easier to digest. Some of the metalcore and post hardcore groups are too intense for me. This band was nicely in that middle area of hardcore instrumentals and sufficient lyricism that could be understood. 6.2/10

This was a lot of fun for not really knowing what was going on. Latin music is always enjoyable to listen to as the instrumentals feel very culturally organic and unique. Overall I’d say for being in Spanish this is still a very good album for the average listener and someone that can’t speak Spanish. 6.0/10

This albums is so good to my younger self and when I listen to it now it’s really amazing how well it still holds up as a good alternative album. The classics are still fun, simple, and energetic songs that are easy to go along with and rock out. This album probably used to be overplayed but as time has gone on I feel gets looked over for being so good in the early 00s. 8.1/10

This is a unique soft indie pop style album that isn’t quite shoegaze but isn’t a lot of other pop things either. It’s really just in limbo on the pop indie side and is unique but lacking in something. It’s soft and a simple listen but it’ has some oddities that make it a bit different. Overall it’s not bad but it’s also underwhelming. 6.2/10

When people talk about the 90s and how great it was referencing peace time, low prices, and of course Shania Twain. This is just a female country album. This is the female country album. Some songs are classics and still get played all over. This album really transcends the country genre and is just like able. 8.3/10

I thought this album was a bit odd until I realized it’s an accompaniment to a play. In that sense it makes sense why it sounds the way it does but it still doesn’t make the album all that enjoyable. It’s like not being part of an inside joke. The Justin Vernon songs weren’t bad. 4.6/10

Was this jazz or a jam band? It was hard to tell at times and as the album progressed I found myself enjoying it a little less. The experimental jazz was cool for a bit to see how art can change but this wasn’t kamasai Washington levels of wild and good. 4.8/10

Probably a bit too modern to be on this list of user favorite albums but yet here we are. A pretty good pop album. The singer has good range and is a blend of Leon, Taylor Swift, Kesha and Adele. Not as talented as some on that list but the influence in this album is obvious. The album has fun pop anthem female empowerment songs and that’s enough to build a following and sometimes plenty of critics. Nice average pop album. Doubt I’ll revisit it though. 5.5/10

Not their most popular or their best but one of the best prog rock bands of all time do what they do best here with great guitar work, slow deep rhythms and fantastic lyrics that bring it all together. Hard not to enjoy a great album from one of the best bands. 8.4/10

Never heard of this artist before and I thought it was pretty nice. Her voice is impressive as it’s smooth and gentle. The album overall was an enjoyable listen. Will have to listen to her other albums to see how they compare but I liked this one. 6.6/10

Mexican rock music. My first thought was there are a lot of Latin albums on the user list. My second thought was this isn’t typical Latin music. It still had the horns and high tempo of most Latin music but having a grungier singer and a mire present percussion helps make this rock out pretty decently. I enjoyed it and once again wish I knew Spanish. 4.9/10

Be aggressive. Be be aggressive. Except this album wasn’t that aggressive. It was alright but for early 90s there is definitely more hardcore metal and rock albums than this one. It felt like it wanted to be more than it was. This whole album is like a deep cut for hard rock fans. 5.1/10

When this came out it was pretty mindblowing this was a bambino album as he was known for his pun lyrically filled rap songs. A few of his songs and singing but nothing like this. A full funk R&B album. This was something I thought resembled the works of George Clinton but with a modern spin. It’s very good and probably my second favorite Bino album. 8.3/10

This was a solid album by a band I’ve never heard before. They definitely fit the southern rock mold with some bluesy sound mixed with some solid guitar. Other southern rock bands do it better but these guys are still a good listen. It seems like they’re not the most active band but this album has plenty of replay value as it’s chill and easy going. 6.8/10

This was a bit too artsy and avante garde for my tastes and brain. The instrumental work is pretty unique and impressive but listening to him pluck strings on a cello doesn’t excite me. 4.7/10

This album is pretty much how I expect most music to sound from Portland. It’s folky, melancholy, unique and earth conscious. The biggest drawback is how short the album is. Feel like it could’ve been a couple songs longer. Heynderickx (which I’m shocked is her real last name) has a nice voice and the instrumentals are on par with a folk album. But yeah gardening does help. 7.1/10

Not sure why we’d start with part four of six for this album story. This isn’t Star Wars. This album was pretty fine. I d heard the dear hunter before and their style is very enunciated rock music. It’s very refined and focuses heavily the story and a decent playing of varying instrumentals. Overall it’s a bit too over the top in production and doesn’t keep my interest. 5.5/10

This is some great jazz. Chet baker had a wild life and there must be something about making jazz that is super depressing because so many of them had troubled lives but made great music. This is the type of jazz I could listen to for hours just cool well played horns. Very nice addition and glad I got to hear something new that’s good. 8.3/10

When they say there’s music for everyone this is a pretty good example of that. Definitely not something I would ever listen to again but some people seem to like it. This was just the type of pop music that makes me sit in silence instead of 2.1/10

Not your traditional Latin music here. Basically a pop Latin album from the 80s. Definitely one of a kind but as upbeat as it may sound, it’s still music I don’t understand and that doesn’t have to bring it down but when it’s 80s pop it does. Maybe a classic but I’ll never know. 3.0/10

MF Doom was one of the linguistically amazing rappers out there. He had an ability to flow over any beat no matter how unique. Food is one of his best albums as he makes a whole concept out of something so simple and still provides the classic doom mind bending rhymes with odd ball skits. There was no one like him. 8.4/10

It’s funky and unique. Yet also lacking that next level to really make me groove along. It’s like a movie soundtrack with no context. It’s fun at times but others it’s like why did they add lyrics here or why didn’t they add lyrics more. It’s an interesting album that’s easy and fun to listen to but not something I’d revisit. 5.9/10

A tense and harrowing album compared to most. The soft indie style works for the album as the lyrics are dark and the singers present it well. Overall this isn’t an album that I really enjoyed or would want to listen to again. But pretty decent. 5.0/10

This was like if you took meth and acid at the same time. It was chaotic, weird, and just not a good time. This album is way too long but it’s also just not very good. There’s been music on this list that may not have been my favorite but it could still be subjectively good. This album, I mean, is pretty close to objectively bad. 1.3/10

This was a pretty decent album and very 90s sounding rock album. It’s not quite grungy but the lead singer has that sound but with more enunciation than others. The instrumentals are pretty much in line with what you would expect from an early 90s album. The lyrics. The songs are definitely different and some are good others are a bit weirder but not terrible. Overall a pretty average album. 6.2/10

This was a very generic and bland female lead pop album and it really had nothing noteworthy to mention. To me this was an album that if you were younger when it came out it may have resonated with you but now it’s really nothing special. 3.9/10

By the sound they mean 80s sound right. The singers style is right in line with some of the popular alternative sounding singers from that decade. The instrumentals have a little range but still very in line with the alternative sounding singers from the 80s. If you told me this was a spinoff band from joy division I’d believe it. Still pretty decent just not amazing. 6.6/10

Awfully rude of them to insult me before even listening. This modern punk rock band makes music that thrashes and is a force of music. Overall it’s nothing I really care to listen to but their punk sound is pretty decent. 4.4/10

Another submission of polarizing 80s music. The lame robotic sound. The unexciting synth electronic beats. It’s all been done and this album wasn’t very enjoyable with it. It was mediocre at best and another reason why some people dislike 80s music. But also why some others enjoy it. Not for me though. 4.1/10

A great album by the national. So many of their stuff sounds similar but their sound is very much their own so it’s hard to say which album is truly best. This one has a significantly more raw feeling to it compared to high violet but not as much as alligator. The national really just makes music for the semi successful educated people stuck in the routine despair of life. And sometimes that’s exactly what is needed. 7.9/10

This was an unexpectedly good album for what it is. Aside from that long bass drum intro this whole album was solid. The 00s alternative style is consistent throughout with a minor dash of despair. The instrumentals are strong and the singer toes the line of alternative and emo rock sound. Lyrically it’s a good collection of songs. Overall pretty good. 6.8/10

Never heard of this band before but I was surprised yet not shocked they were from Ann Arbor. Does every band that originates in AA have to have some sort of quirky off the wall quality? This album was alright. I don’t love live albums and part of it is some songs are really hard to play live. Their instrumentals are good but after I listened to some of their studio recorded music there is a big difference between that and the live sounds. Overall it was fine. If I were to listen to this band again it wouldn’t be from the live album. 5.6/10

Definitely not the best song called night drive but this album is pretty entertaining. Some of the songs drag on a bit long for me but feels like that’s what they intended. Not sure how much I’d listen to the whole album again but night drive and the up on the hill cover are solid. 6.1/10

Zappa sure is a zany guy. His music is quite impressive stylistically but his lyricism is goofy and satirical to the point where it kind of gets annoying. It’s like the person who tells one funny joke and thinks they have 8 more in them. Zappa has musical talent but for me this albums misses the mark of something id want to hear again. 5.2/10

Tool was one of the bands I felt needed to be on this list. Found out this one was on it so I went with a different pick. After listening to this one I’m thinking two Tool albums would’ve worked. I remember when I first found Tool and they became my number one artist for the year. Their music is so unique but so well made it’s easy to listen to te hardcore prog sound. Probably one of the best bands in the 90s/00s. Lateralus is my personal favorite but Ænima is also very good and would listen to it many more times. 8.3/10

The first John Martyn album was pretty good and this one was pretty similar. The instrumentals had a bit more variety but it still had that martyn feel of cool laid back sound. I can see why people like him. His soft tone is very easy to listen too. I enjoyed this one a little bite more than the one on the list. 6.5/10

EDM music was such a weird phase of music but some people really loved it. Other just loved going to clubs and this music was everywhere. I always thought it was the turning point of musicianship being more computer based than talent based. Overall this isn’t anything I care to listen to but it’s not bad. I’d imagine decades from now this kind of music will be forgotten. 4.7/10

Theres meal music which is pretty polarizing and there is avant- garde music which is pretty polarizing as well. You mix the two together and you don’t get acclaimed music everyone loves. Actually you probably get the most niche type of Music out there. This was weird, dull, and not something I’d enjoy listening to again. But at least someone likes it. 2.4/10

Never thought I’d see a Pigeons album in this list but here we are. They’re like if phish was less psychedelic and more talented. This live album was alright. Their instrumental ability is great but the whole jam band thing is very much an acquired taste. It’s fun for a little bit but about 30 minutes in it gets tiresome. I’m sure the live shows would be a little bit more enjoyable. I know j wouldn’t revisit this since I would always skip songs from psychology when they pop up. 4.6/10

This was kind of an odd album. Solo guy but decides to do an indie rock punk rock album that sounds like he’s just trying to catch fire but nothing really hits. All of the songs are somewhat catchy but it seems like music a 40 year old makes to try and be cool with his teenage kids. Not feeling it. 5.2/10
