M.I.A.Already listened to it 4 times. Love it!

I have listened to this album so many times in my lifetime and I don't think it will ever get old. Will never forget the time I fell asleep in my car after a bush party in the mid 00's to this album playing only to be startled awake by "Time". Every song feels like a masterpiece but I think my favorites are Breathe, Brain Damage and Eclipse. Albums like this almost ruin the scale for me because this is one of those albums that feels like the fivest five stars that ever fived and makes me rethink the scores I've given everything else.
While I appreciate the history and influence Buddy Holly had on the music scene and rock & roll, unfortunately this music just really isn't for me.
What a great album to get to enjoy on a Friday morning at work. I don't listen to stuff like this very much but I enjoyed every moment of it.
Wasn't for me. Felt like elevator or hotel music.
Enjoyable! Jazzy and soothing.
Quite enjoyed this one! Favorite songs were Tell Her Tonight & The Dark of the Matinee. Enjoy the sound of the singers voice and overall sound of the band.
I enjoy the sound of The Smiths, but in smaller doses. I most enjoyed Nowhere Fast and That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore from this album.
Enjoyed this one front to back. Favorites were the first 3 songs - Let Me Drown, My Wave, Fell on Black Days.
I liked this a lot more than I thought I would!
What a great collection of 90s drum n bass.
Not my thing. Really didn't enjoy the sound of the singer's voice. I won't go as far as calling it "grating" but it nearly was. Almost couldn't finish the album.
Starts off strong, dips a bit in the middle and then ends nicely.
Great album. Tusk was my favorite song.
A nice chill indie rock album. Most songs sound like they could have been on the Garden State soundtrack.
Didn't like this one as much as Songs In The Key Of Life, really only enjoyed the singles - Living for the City & Higher Ground
I enjoyed parts of this album way more than others. Some songs were not for me but my favorites were Hedphelym, Delphium & Actium.
I normally love 80's synth stuff but this one didn't hit for me.
Really enjoyed this whole album!
Really enjoyed the sound of her voice but the album wasn't really memorable for me.
Honestly loved this. It was so weird and abstract.
I enjoy big band music but it all starts to sound the same to me after a while, especially since I listen at work so I'm not usually paying full attention to it.
Loved this one front to back!
I loved this album. Wish I could give it a 4.5* rating. Loved the singers voice and the vibe of the whole thing.
Great 90's rock vibes. Would give it 3.5 if I could but I'll round up today. :)
I liked this one but not as much as other, similar albums of this time/genre.
Don't think I've ever listened to a Bowie album before, but really enjoyed it! Wish I could give 3.5 stars. My favorite song was Boss of Me.
I enjoyed this one! Don't listen to a lot of blues usually.
Cool sound and appreciate what they did for the Punk scene but started to feel "same-y" by the end.
Not my thing.
Reaaally enjoyed this one. Would prob rate it 4.5 but apparently I lean towards being generous with stars on here. :)
I liked this one. Didn't love it, didn't hate it, fell right in the middle for me.
Only really got the synth-pop vibe on a couple of songs, was hoping for more. Pretty catchy album but don't think I'm converted to a "swiftie" just yet.
Can't believe I've never listened to Elliott Smith before. This album was incredible and is making me look into his entire catalogue.
So I had to give this one a second listen. I don't usually listen to this type of music so it took me a bit to get into it. Near the end of the album the bluesy song about a bittersweet relationship with cocaine caught my attention and then the album ends with the absolute banger of a track "Cynicrustpetefredjohn Raga". Then I looked him up and found out he never really achieved commercial success as a performer and instead moved to Florida to work with the Dolphin Project, helping with the preservation of dolphins. This led me to go back and really listen to the lyrics of the first track "The Dolphins" and really connected with it. TLDR; After a second listen and really paying attention to the lyrics, my rating went up quite a bit.
I absolutely loved this one. Made me nostalgic for a time I didn't really get to experience because I was so young.
Great album, really enjoyed this one.
Absolutely loved this one. I'm all about the synthy 80's vibes this album has.
Don't have the energy for a thoughtful review today.
I can't get enough of the 80's vibe lately. This was so good, front to back.
Really enjoyed this one!
Liked this one a lot! The Cure have such a cool vibe.
2 for 1 and both great albums, what more could you want?
So the first day I listened to this one I think I was in a bad mood and I really did NOT like it at all. In fact, I was annoyed while listening to it and almost turned it off. But I think I was getting annoyed with everything that day. I gave it another listen the next day and ended up really enjoying how eccentric and quirky it is.
Loved his voice!
Not as good as I or II but still an easy 5 stars.
Really really enjoyed this one! Very close to giving it 5*
I think I could listen to this one over and over again - loved it!
Loved this one! So, so good. Will definitely be listening to it again.
Went back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. Quite enjoyed this one but didn't blow me away.
I have learned that I enjoy a single Bruce Springsteen song from time to time but an entire album is just too much for me.
Stuck between 3 and 4 for this one but I've been rounding up so 4 it is! Really fun album.
Already listened to it 4 times. Love it!
Great album if you're in the mood for some reggae vibes.
Great album!
What a vibe, front to back. Feel like I'm taken back in time while listening to it.
This album is musical gibberish in the best way possible. They include and bend different genres, intertwined with what feels like absolute nonsense. Yet sometimes the things that sound like complete nonsense are actually a meaningful reflection on real issues. I'm of course referring to "It Can't Happen Here" - a song that is the embodiment of a child putting their fingers in their ears yelling "I can't hear you" about societal issues. Of course Help, I'm a Rock and The Return of the Son of Monster Magnet are both great, and an absolute trip to listen to. Most notably though is how relevant Trouble Every Day was both then and now. "Well I'm about to get upset From watchin' my TV Been checkin' out the news Until my eyeballs fail to see"
I'm a bit torn on this one. There are some songs I love (King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger, O My God), but others I really don't care for (Synchronicity, Mother). There's also some that I can't decide whether I like or not (Murder by Numbers, Walking in Your Footsteps). Honestly don't think I've ever been so divided on a song-by-song basis for an album before.
Not a huge Metallica fan. A lot of the songs sound the same to me. Favorites were The Unforgiven, Wherever I May Roam, and Nothing Else Matters.
I almost switched off from this while listening to the first song. It wasn't really fitting my vibe at work. But holy I'm glad I didn't because the rest of the album did NOT disappoint. Pt. 2 and 4 especially caught my attention. It's also really cool to hear sounds like this from 1977 when synthesizers were really just first becoming popular. I love the analogue feel of some of the sounds he used.
Absolutely great album! Obviously Golden Years is a banger but I loved Station to Station as well as Stay. Word on a Wing and Wild is the Wind were my least favorites. Guess I'm more into Bowie's more upbeat tracks.
Outstanding album. Another artist I've never really listened to but probably should. So soulful and groovy.
Twas pretty good! I definitely preferred the more fast-paced "thrashy" tracks such as Rapid Fire and Steeler, but I also enjoyed Grinder. I'd probably listen to this album again.
This scratched an itch I didn't know I had. The Water Song spoke to me. A Very Cellular Song feels like a 13min masterpiece.
Quite enjoyed this one! Feels like they have a very unique style.
Really enjoyed this whole album! On Sir Francis Drake is a fun instrumental but I enjoyed many of the songs on this album (Smug, Don't let the Rain Bring you Down, Ride the Wind). I'd happily listen to this album again.
Great album - I could listen to this one again and again.
Biiiiig fan of this one! Love the sound of her voice and the use of both guitar and drums in their songs. Favorite Songs: Rabbits Dying, Call Me, Green
Felt like I was back in school in the 90s. I had visions of commercials, the fashion, popular movies.... just really took me back in time. So good.
Big Offspring fan. Grew up in the era of the 90's punk resurgence where pop-punk began and could listen to it all day. I'll crank Come Out and Play/Self Esteem any time I hear them on the radio but I also love Bad Habit and the ska leaning What Happened to You?
An absolute masterpiece front to back. Can't get enough CCR.
Not for me.
Really enjoyed this album. Was going to list my favorite songs but I loved all of them right up until the last 3. I didn't DISLIKE those 3, but they were my least favorite of the bunch (Sooner Than you Think, Sub-Culture and Face Up).
This scratched an itch I didn't know I had. The chaos at the end of Just a Second felt like it was tickling/massaging my brain.
One of my favorites of all time.
I love how focused on the instrumentals this album is. Really enjoyed the entire thing.
Loved it!
There are songs on this album that I love, and some that I don't really care for. Love: Neighbourhood 1 & 3, Wake Up, Rebellion I also think that hearing a song or two in a mixtape from these guys is great, but listening to a whole album I found the singers voice to get a bit grating by the end.
I didn't hate this but didn't love it. Kinda fit my mood the morning I listened to it as it was just easy listening. Won't listen to it again though.
Loved it. Her voice is so unique. That intro to She Bop is.... *chef's kiss*.
Quite enjoyed this one! Hovering between a 3 and 4 but have been bumping up to 4 when that happens so I guess I'll continue on that trend.
Had high hopes for this but was surprisingly disappointed. Was expecting more synthy up-beat tunes like the hit of the album but it felt full of more 80's ballad-type songs than anything else.
Sooo many good tracks on this album.
While I appreciate the history and influence Buddy Holly had on the music scene and rock & roll, unfortunately this music just really isn't for me.
Haven't ever listened to Kendrick Lamar before and don't know why as this was an excellent album.
Not really for me though I did enjoy the weird vocal effect near the end of Absolute. Honestly feels like an entire album of Michael Jackson uncanny valley.
I couldn't finish this album. There is something about her voice that really hits my ear in the absolute worst way. I don't actually know how to describe it. I'm a fan of the sound of early 2000's hip hop so it's not the style of music that's doing... just something about her voice. Sorry Ms. Dynamite!
I appreciate AC/DC on a mix tape. A single song or two is great mixed in with other classic rock. An entire album is way too much for me and starts sounding very same-y. Girls Got Rhythm is one of my favorite AC/DC songs so I gave this album a bonus star for that.
I've never really listened to Meat Loaf before and had no idea he was so huge (6th best selling [physical] album of all time?!). Anyway, enjoyed this one waaaay more than I thought I would. Would be happy to listen to this one again - many times.
Hadn't ever heard of these guys before now, but quite enjoyed this one! Especially the "Back at the Farm" instrumental song and "Street Joy". The musical arrangements and compositions feel really well thought out, which for the most part is wasted on my simple mind so I won't pretend to know what I'm talking about on that front. But I enjoyed the album!
I won't speak on Prince, the person, because that is a can of worms... but I loved this album front to back and don't even think I can pick a favorite song because they were all excellent.
Could probably listen to this album a million times. Sooo many good tracks and was listening to these guys before I really knew what "electronic" music was. Big fan of electronic "bands" that incorporate both live instruments with the electronic sound. Smack My Bitch Up and Breathe both still get me so pumped. Then Firestarter is on it too? Get outta here! I hadn't listened to most of the rest of the songs but I enjoyed every one of them - especially Funky Shit and Narayan.
Loved it, and landing as my album Friday before a long weekend felt appropriate for the vibe Reggae tends to have.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would, but also found some parts of it a bit meh. Overall, it tickled the nostalgia in me and just a few notes into the first song I was instantly back in my kid body in the 90s.
The Doors are a serious contender for my favorite band of all time, so this was an easy 5* for me. Their sound is so incredibly unique, I absolutely love listening to the different instruments they use, and Jim's voice is incredible. The keys, the organ, the guitar... so good! I listened to them a lot when I was younger as well (early 00's) so there is a nostalgia factor there for me as well.
I don't know if it was the EQ/mastering or what, but the sound of his voice felt very grating and felt like it didn't go with the music at all. I couldn't finish this one.
Loved this album and had no idea Layla was the result of Clapton being in in a band I've never heard of. I've made sure to save this one so I can come back to it again.
Loved this, it was fun from start to finish. Think my favorite is Money, Money, Money.
I honestly can't get enough of New Wave style music, so I loved this album front to back. My favorite song was actually Traison (C'est juste une histoire) but I also really enjoyed Went Crazy and When I Dream. I could listen to this kind of stuff all day.
This was a great vibe for my day.
What a great album to get to enjoy on a Friday morning at work. I don't listen to stuff like this very much but I enjoyed every moment of it.
Absolutely loved this one. I'm so glad that the 1001 albums project introduced me to these guys.
Loved it!
Enjoyed this one quite a bit but not as much as I thought I would.
Some good songs, some less good. I can't help thinking about the fact that he was physically abusive towards Cynthia when listening to the song "Jealous Guy". That song feels tainted to me. But there were some cool riffs on this album and obviously the title track can't be overlooked.
Haven't listened to a ton of Jack White or the White Stripes but I really enjoyed this & might look into more from their catalogue!
Finding that I really enjoy Bowie, despite not listening to him a ton before this 1001 albums endeavor!
This was pretty great, but didn't enjoy it quite as much as other grunge/alt metal albums from around this time, so 3* it is!
As background music this album does not work (I usually listen while at work). It's kind of manic & distracting in that setting. Or perhaps I was just annoyed in general yesterday when I listened to it. But when I listened to it with more attention I actually really started to enjoy it. So much more than I thought I would, especially after that first listen yesterday.
Started off very strong with Rainy Day Women (one of my favorite Dylan songs), by the middle of the album I was thinking "boy this is a lot of harmonica" and by the end I was getting a bit tired of his super stylized voice. I guess I'm just not a "listen to an entire album" kind of Dylan fan.
2 Dylan albums in a row?? Considering my review for Blonde On Blonde ended with "I guess I'm just not a 'listen to an entire album' kind of Dylan fan.", it did not bode well for today. But I will say that I liked this one more than Blonde On Blonde. There was significantly less harmonica (I don't hate harmonica, but listening with earbuds made the sound rather piercing at times - probably better enjoyed on some speakers). Anyway, while I enjoyed this album more I still don't think I'm a "listen to an entire album" Dylan fan. His voice is very stylized and starts to get old for me after the 5th.. 6th song. I enjoy him more on a playlist mixed with other artists.
Great friday vibe.
Dang, this album is SO 90's. I really enjoy a lot of the musical arrangements and backing tracks. Most of the songs are not really standouts for me though, except for Ray of Light and I actually found Mer Girl really intriguing as well. Don't know if it's one I'll come back to though.
So many great tracks on this album!
