The Hives
3/5
False advertising...they are NOT my new favorite band. I did enjoy the album though...lots of youthful energy.

Ray Charles
2/5
Didn't enjoy it. To me it seemed like a weird fusion of country and Lawrence Welk with vocals by Ray Charles.

Kanye West
2/5
I appreciate his musical talent, but just not my thing.

The Smiths
3/5
Solid...not great.
Common
3/5
Not something I would normally listen to but really enjoyed it. Closer to a 4 than a 2.
The Police
4/5
A memorable album from high school...hadn't listened to it in a long time. Multiple great songs, but a little too uneven for me to call it a great album.
Nick Drake
3/5
Had never heard of this artist. Not something I would normally listen to, but enjoyed it.
Beatles
4/5
Great album...only complaint is that it doesn't have the variety and complexity of some of the later Beatles albums.
It still amazes me how prolific they were in such a short period of time...
Sigur Rós
4/5
Had never heard of them before, but I liked this album a lot. Very intriguing sound...simultaneously haunting and soothing. Will definitely give their other albums a listen...also love this album's cover art.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
No idea what I just listened to. It wasn't horrible...just bizarre. If you told me it was some sort of joke, I'd believe it.
His voice sounds like a cross between Neil Diamond and Tom Jones.
Eurythmics
3/5
Don't think I had listened to the whole album before. A couple of great songs, but not much more.
The Cardigans
3/5
Ok...nothing special.
Jack White
4/5
Really enjoyed this. Will be listening to it again.
Ramones
4/5
Still sounds great. Can almost imagine myself at CBGB...
Rush
3/5
Love Geddy and the boys, but this one was a bit disjointed...was on the fence between 2 and 3 but gave them the benefit of the doubt.
The Flaming Lips
2/5
Didn't like it...can't really put my finger on the reason.
Sonic Youth
3/5
Meh...just ok.
The White Stripes
3/5
Solid. Enjoyed it...but not quite enough for a 4.
Ray Charles
3/5
I can appreciate the quality...but it's so hard to compare music from different eras. The older stuff just doesn't hit me the same way...
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Unreal how great this still sounds over 50 years later. I can't imagine listening to this for the first time as a teenager in 1969 on the heels of the Beatles and Beach Boys...must have sounded like it came from outer space.
The Hives
3/5
False advertising...they are NOT my new favorite band. I did enjoy the album though...lots of youthful energy.
Tito Puente
4/5
Would never listen to this normally, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Love those horns!
David Bowie
3/5
Interesting. Didn't love it...didn't hate it.
The Go-Go's
2/5
A couple of great pop songs, but was disappointed in the rest of the album.
Common
2/5
Just not my thing.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Not normally a big country fan, but after listening to the whole thing it's easy to see why this is considered a classic album.
FKA twigs
3/5
I can see why some might like listening to this...but it's just not for me.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Even with Stairway to Heaven way overplayed during our youth, this is an all-timer.
Damone: When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV.
Ratner: plays "Kashmir" from Physical Graffiti.
Joni Mitchell
3/5
Never been a huge Joni Mitchell fan, but appreciate it for what it is.
Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
3/5
Didn't recognize the name of the artist or album, but definitely knew "Perfect Skin". Solid album. 3
Talvin Singh
2/5
Did not enjoy this...not my cup of tea.
The Byrds
3/5
Wow...was not expecting a country album from The Byrds. Enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.
The Band
3/5
Solid country rock album.
Miles Davis
3/5
Nice easy listening. Don't recall ever seeing an album with only two songs before.
The Cars
5/5
Hadn't listened to this in a long time. An 80's classic...will disregard the one forgettable song.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Some great songs to give it a strong 3...but not quite enough overall for me to give it a 4.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
1/5
Guessing only hardcore EL&P fans would find this one stimulating.
Led Zeppelin
3/5
I'm sure fans of their first two albums must have said "WTF?" after listening to this for the first time. While it's not their one of their best and none of the songs are very well known other than "Immigrant Song", their departure from hardcore guitar into blues and folk on this album really demonstrates their range and talent as musicians.
A few years ago Katie and I were traveling through Wales, and we went a little out of our way to go to Bron-Yr-Aur cottage, where they wrote a lot of the songs on III and IV. Was hoping to at least get a picture, but we abandoned ship when I saw that you had to go up a steep gravel path off the main road to get there...it looked like someone's driveway. And apparently the current owners aren't fond of Zep fans making a pilgrimage to their property...not worth the hassle.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Solid, but the Dylan voice and the harmonica get a bit repetitive.
Run-D.M.C.
2/5
I know this album is of historical importance, but I was underwhelmed...a bit dull and repetitive.
Hadn't listened to this in quite a while. Solid album...started strong and was thinking 4, but the second half isn't as strong so can only give it a 3.
Deerhunter
3/5
Had never heard of Deerhunter before. Found the album interesting...really enjoyed Helicopter. Will give some of their other albums a listen.
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
Enjoyed adding a little funk to my workday...
Depeche Mode
4/5
Wow...multiple great songs on this album. Depeche Mode doesn't get the respect they deserve.
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
3/5
Interesting...had never heard of them but would listen to it again.
k.d. lang
3/5
Nothing wrong with it...just not my thing.
Slipknot
1/5
I wanted to turn it off halfway through the first song, but I persevered and listened to the whole thing.
So much unnecessary anger…don’t understand why anyone would seek this out.
Jethro Tull
4/5
On the fence between 3 and 4, but will upgrade to 4 with so many classic songs on the same album. That damn flute gets annoying though...
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
4/5
Wow...amazing debut album. Will listen to it again.
David Bowie
3/5
Was hit and miss for me...too inconsistent.
The Zombies
2/5
One classic song doesn't make up for a lot of crap on the rest of the album.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Liked it a lot more than I expected...did not miss the harmonica at all.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Really enjoyed this. Had heard it before, but particularly enjoyed the funkier original version of "Higher Ground"...but have to admit that I like the RHCP version better.
Pixies
3/5
Strong 3...nice punk edge to the entire album, and never sounded repetitive.
Sepultura
1/5
Nope. Don't understand how anyone can find this enjoyable to listen to.
Billy Bragg
3/5
More enjoyable than I expected...solid 3.
Brian Eno
3/5
Had never listened to this before and had high hopes, but thought it was just OK.
Thelonious Monk
3/5
Solid, but not something I would normally listen to.
The Doors
4/5
Not sure if I had ever listened to this entire album before. Multiple classics, and loved the blues tunes as well.
Sinead O'Connor
3/5
Love her voice and have always loved "The Emperor's New Clothes", but not quite enough for me to give it a 4.
Buzzcocks
3/5
Think I had heard of them but had never listened to any of their albums...enjoyed this one. Punk edge that never went too far.
Haircut 100
4/5
I remember in high school when "Love Plus One" came out thinking these guys were really lame.
I stand corrected. Really enjoyed the entire album...love the horns.
Billy Joel
5/5
Amazing collection of well-written songs....not a bad one in the bunch. Like his older pre-Christie Brinkley stuff much better.
Norah Jones
4/5
Not something I would normally listen to. Beautiful voice...strong album.
Solange
3/5
Nothing wrong with it...just not my thing.

4/5
Enjoyed this...would listen to it again.

Kraftwerk
2/5
We've heard worse, but I won't be listening to this one again.
Goldfrapp
2/5
Had never heard of them. A bit too sweet and syrupy for my taste.
The Clash
3/5
Solid but not spectacular.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
A couple nice hits, but nothing else really resonated.
Van Morrison
4/5
Don't think I had ever listened to the entire album before. Really enjoyed it...will definitely listen to it again.
Beatles
3/5
I definitely prefer late Beatles over early Beatles...
Teenage Fanclub
3/5
Had never heard of them. Liked a few of the songs, but didn't find anything really memorable.
Nirvana
3/5
Wanted and expected to like this more than I actually did.
Roxy Music
2/5
Did not enjoy it. For a while I thought I was listening to Jason Segal's puppet musical from "Forgetting Sarah Marshall".
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Started out strong, but the flip side was definitely weaker...
Funkadelic
4/5
I've decided that I need more Funkadelic in my life.
The Stone Roses
3/5
Not bad...but nothing really memorable either.
Fun Lovin' Criminals
4/5
Wow...I now have a favorite rap album. Loved all of it.
Mudhoney
3/5
Enjoyed it...though not sure I'd want to listen to it again.
Black Sabbath
3/5
Respect it for its historical value, but have never been a big fan of Ozzy or Black Sabbath.
Herbie Hancock
2/5
Meh...nothing really exciting here.
Dirty Projectors
3/5
Interesting, but not something I'd choose to listen to.
Dolly Parton
3/5
Great voice and appreciate her talent, but just not a big fan of country music.
Ray Charles
2/5
Didn't enjoy it. To me it seemed like a weird fusion of country and Lawrence Welk with vocals by Ray Charles.

4/5
Interesting...enjoyed it. Had never heard of them but will have to give it another listen.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
5/5
Never disappoints.

4/5
Really enjoyed it. Felt like I was in "rock church"...especially during "Personal Jesus".
M.I.A.
3/5
Love her experimentation, but not something I would choose to listen to.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Great collection of songs. I recall "Scarborough Fair" being one of the songs I had to play for my piano lessons...probably around 1975 or so.
Jefferson Airplane
3/5
Solid album with several hits from the times.
Frank Sinatra
3/5
I'm guessing this is considered a classic, but the songs all sound the same after a few of them.
The Chemical Brothers
4/5
Really liked this...would listen to it again.
Miriam Makeba
2/5
Not my thing.
Country Joe & The Fish
2/5
Underwhelming.

4/5
Impossible not to tap your feet to these songs. Loved the energy of the live performance.
Kings of Leon
4/5
Some good stuff...would listen to it again.
The Kinks
4/5

The Smiths
3/5
Solid. Strong 3 but not quite enough for a 4.
The Modern Lovers
2/5
Underwhelming...the songs started sounding the same after a while.
Megadeth
2/5
We've heard worse, but not a big fan of the genre.
Def Leppard
4/5
Still sounds pretty good...maybe it's the nostalgia kicking in.
Rage Against The Machine
3/5
Hit and miss.
Prince
5/5
Wow. Still so good.
I think "Let's Go Crazy" was played at every one of our parties in college.
Antony and the Johnsons
2/5
Not a fan. Didn't like her voice at all.
Steely Dan

4/5
This one surprised me. Really enjoyed it...felt like I was on one of our trips to Mexico.

Too syrupy sweet for my tastes.
Happy Mondays
3/5
Liked some of the songs, but not a lot of variety.
George Michael

4/5
Knew many of the songs but had never listened to the entire album. Good stuff.

Found a few of the songs interesting, but not that exciting overall.
The Gun Club
4/5
Really enjoyed it...fun listen.
The The
3/5
Just ok.
5/5
Never repetitive and still sounds amazing.
If they're ever back at The Sphere, just go. Expensive but worth every penny. Most amazing venue ever.
Little Richard
3/5
Had listened to this once before...enjoyed it much more this time around.
Had to be crazy hearing this in the 50s...must have sounded like it had arrived from another planet.
CHIC
3/5
Aah...a visit to the disco era and a young Nile Rodgers. Is Donna Summer next on the list? Good times...
Just one more thing
Remember the whole world's a circus
Don't you be the clown
Jane's Addiction
3/5
Couple of great 90s songs...found the rest just ok.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Not a fan.
The Cure
2/5
Sounded like they were still trying to figure out what they wanted to be.
Dire Straits
5/5
Classic...Knopfler's guitar working its magic in so many different ways.
Arcade Fire
4/5
Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. A lot of variety...love the organ!
Big Brother & The Holding Company
4/5
What a voice...man, we lost a lot of musical talent to drugs in that era.
Various Artists
4/5
Excellent Christmas album despite the creepy Phil Spector vibe.
Jeff Beck
3/5
Had not listened to this before...enjoyed it. A lot of similarities to early Led Zeppelin...which makes sense since both Beck and Jimmy Page were in The Yardbirds together.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Can't figure out how to describe this, but would never willingly listen to it.
Elliott Smith
3/5
Had never heard of him before. Not horrible, but nothing really memorable either.
Talking Heads
3/5
Glimpses of great things to come...solid 3.
Strong recommendation for American Utopia on Max...saw it a few years ago with zero expectations and really enjoyed it.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
A couple classics, but the rest was pretty forgettable.
Carpenters
3/5
Amazing voice, though not my cup of tea.
Had a strong urge to watch reruns of Love, American Style after listening to "I Kept on Loving You"...
R.E.M.
4/5
Wasn't a huge REM fan but not really sure why...really enjoyed this. Can imagine hearing this while walking past West Dorm our senior year...
For quite some time I thought that they were saying "Can I have some Tylenol" instead of "It's time I had some time alone". I like my lyrics better...
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Great album. Would rate it a 5 if the best songs were in a regular length album, but downgrading the double album to a 4 because it gets a bit diluted by some of the weaker songs.
Kashmir may be the perfect song. Still get goosebumps when it gets quiet again after Plant's long scream.
Simple Minds
3/5
Solid. Not quite a 4 but very close.
Neneh Cherry
2/5
A jumbled pop mess. No thanks.
Death In Vegas
4/5
Really enjoyed this. Didn't hurt that Broken Little Sister had Jim Reid from The Jesus and Mary Chain on vocals...can recognize that voice anywhere.
Nirvana
4/5
Great album...but a little uneven at times, so can't give it a 5.
Jorge Ben Jor
3/5
Would never normally listen to this, but find it really enjoyable.
Beth Orton
3/5
Not familiar with her at all. Not bad, but nothing to bring me back either.
The Beta Band
2/5
Meh. Not horrible, but no interest in listening to this again.
Pink Floyd
5/5
The standard by which all albums should be judged. Everything about it is perfect...the album cover, the lyrics, the variety of songs, the transitions between songs. After to listening to it hundreds (thousands?) of times, I still feel like I pick up something new every time I listen to it.
Speaking of album covers, there's a great movie on Netflix about them called "Squaring the Circle (The Story of Hipgnosis)". Thinking Bingo told me about it, but can't remember. Great documentary.
Supergrass
3/5
Ok, but nothing to bring me back.
Joe Ely
2/5
At least the album title accurately described what was coming...
2/5
Listened to this while driving from SLC to Vegas. After hearing the first song, Katie turned on her Airpods and started listening to a podcast.
Wish I had done the same. Will be generous and give it a 2.
KISS
3/5
Pretty vanilla rock, actually. Made me appreciate other more talented bands from that era whose experimentation resulted in greatness (eg Floyd, Zeppelin, Queen).
Bob Dylan
3/5
Appreciate his talent, but after a few songs they are start to sound the same.
Janis Joplin
4/5
Such a talent...so sad that we lost so many from that era so young.
Kraftwerk
2/5
Not horrible, but didn't do anything for me.
Leonard Cohen
1/5
Dear Album Generator,
What have we done to you to deserve so many Leonard Cohen albums?
We beg you...please, no more.
Ms. Dynamite
3/5
Not something I would typically listen to, but enjoyed it. Solid 3.
Otis Redding
4/5
Good stuff.
Green Day

Bad Company
4/5
Nothing fancy...just solid classic rock.
Peter Gabriel
4/5
Had never listened to this before.
Appreciate the construction of the album...it's not just a random collection of songs.
The Specials
3/5
Fun listen, but a bit repetitive...
Beastie Boys
3/5
Quite a few hits that we used to hear in the hallowed halls of North Dorm...but just not a big fan of the genre.
Lorde
3/5
Ok...but nothing to bring me back.
ABBA
3/5
A couple giant hits, but that doesn't make it a great album.
Frank Black
4/5
Had no idea who Frank Blank was. Pleasantly surprised...thoroughly enjoyed it and would listen to it again.
Ute Lemper
2/5
I mean, she's obviously very talented and is huge in Germany (sang on Roger Waters "The Wall - Live in Berlin")...but I would never listen to this again unless the only alternative was Leonard Cohen.
Sarah Vaughan
3/5
Great voice...just not my thing.
David Bowie
3/5
Solid, but didn’t blow me away.
Fred Neil
3/5
Had never heard of him, though I did recognize Everybody's Talkin'. Better than I expected.
Mj Cole
3/5
Not bad...just not my thing.
Love

Marvin Gaye
3/5
Solid...though not really my cup of tea.
3/5
Nothing spectacular, but solid.
The Waterboys
2/5
Don't get me wrong, I love visiting Scotland...but this isn't why. Not horrible, but too much folk influence for my tastes.
The Psychedelic Furs
3/5
A bit disappointing...was expecting more than just one really good song.
Cat Stevens
4/5
Enjoyed it...it's a tweener for me, but I'll be generous and round up.
Aretha Franklin
4/5
Good stuff.
Coldplay
4/5
I really like this early Coldplay album...elicits a lot of different moods and is a bit darker and more emotional than their later more pop-oriented stuff.
Bert Jansch
3/5
Had never heard of him. Enjoyed it unexpectedly. If I have to listen to folk, would much rather listen to this than another Dylan album.
Elvis Presley
4/5
Classic Elvis.
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
Never been a big Bruce fan. Found this one a little repetitive but not bad overall.
4/5
Never really liked her when she’d appear on Letterman, but this one surprised me…really enjoyed it. Hearing Thom Yorke’s voice pop up on "The Mess We're In" was a pleasant surprise. Will listen to this one again.
Harry Nilsson
3/5
Just OK.
Gotan Project
4/5
Unexpectedly enjoyable.
Blondie
4/5
Sign of a good album...enjoying the songs you don't know in addition to the hits.
Le Tigre
3/5
Really interesting. Enjoyed the individual songs more than the collective album.
R.E.M.
4/5
Aaah...can picture hearing this while walking through the quad during our college years.
Solid 4...but not quite enough diversity in the sound of the songs to warrant a 5.
The War On Drugs
4/5
Wow...really, really liked this one. Hard for me to give an album a 5 on its first listen, but this one came as close for me as any that we've listened to.
a-ha
3/5
Solid 80s pop.
Frank Sinatra
3/5
Appreciate it for what it is...just not my thing.
The Stooges
4/5
"Raw Power" is a very accurate title for this album. Gritty, old-time rock n roll...could close your eyes and imagine yourself hearing this at CGBG in the 70s.
Alice In Chains
3/5
Multiple hits from the 90s grunge era. This one is a tweener for me...rounding down because on the whole I don't find it to be an enjoyable listen.
Boston
5/5
Classic rock that still sounds great...not a weak song in the bunch.
Eels
3/5
Not bad, but not great.
Had not heard of the Eels before "Fresh Blood" was used for the intro of "The Jinx". One of the best series intros of all time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAST6SgLmQg
Air
3/5
Appreciate it for what it is...just not my thing.

4/5

I really like some of Radiohead's early albums...but this one isn't anything special.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
One of many we lost way too soon.

3/5
A couple big hits, but found the rest underwhelming.

Not bad...but not something I would listen to again.
Green Day
4/5
Really good, though the second half isn't nearly as strong.
Deep Purple
4/5
Good stuff.
Scott Walker
1/5
Nope.
The lyrics on "Next" are...um...interesting. Had to look them up to make sure I heard them correctly.
I swear on the wet head
Of my first case of gonorrhea
It's his ugly voice
That I forever hear
Next, next
That voice that stinks of corpses
Of whiskey and of mud
It is the voice of nations
That thick voice of blood
Next, next
3/5
Had very low expectations. Liked it better than I expected, but still just ok.
The Adverts
3/5
Liked the energy...but nothing that I'd listen to again.
Cream
3/5
Some big hits, but after a while a lot of the songs start sounding the same.
Pink Floyd
5/5
Amazingly only third on my list of Floyd albums (behind Dark Side and Animals), but never disappoints.
The Young Gods
3/5
Didn't mind it..too bad I don't understand French.
Dion
3/5
Nothing exciting, but nice easy listening. Had never heard of him, but obviously a talented songwriter.
The Residents
1/5
Couldn't get through the whole thing. Incoherent noise.
Booker T. & The MG's
3/5
Just OK.
Dire Straits
5/5
Love Knopfler's guitar work...gets me every time.
Traffic
4/5
Solid classic rock.
