Too slow, elevator crap!
Man in black. What more can be said? He got his audience, and they got him! I can hear his empathy through his deep frog-horn call. The duets are soul rendering. I also think the recording has a genuine feel, you can hear the wardens calling for individuals because they had visitations. Overall it’s beautiful: a five star for me.
It’s hard to not make these songs not sound dated, probably because there are so memories associated with them. Starting with “welcome to the jungle” and memories of the Boulder County Fair and neon lights. Was the album overrated? Yes. Give me anyone of these albums released in 1987, over this album: Cult “Electric” Kiss”crazy nights” White snake “white snake”, Def leopard “hysteria” Joe Satriani “surfing with the alien”; sonic youth “sister” Pixies “hello pilgrim” *** not really in the same field but u2 “Joshua tree” was released this year. The songs that highlight this album are: "It's So Easy"/"Mr. Brownstone" Released: June 8, 1987 "Welcome to the Jungle" Released: September 21, 1987[1] "Sweet Child o' Mine" Released: June 3, 1988 "Paradise City" Released: January 1989 "Nightrain" Released: July 1989 12 songs total Starred: 5 Rating: 2.08 (5/12=2.08333)
It’s hard to say because the music here has been played and known so I can’t make a new assessment. There are classic songs here. His rendering of “hurt” by Trent Rezner is awesome but does it move the needle forward. Overall I think this is a three.
You will love this or hate it. But I don’t think it can be ignored. I loved it, big 5 for me! Abstract ideas that come to my head while listening to this album: Jordan Minnesota: noisy dialectics, Gyrating hips, we do what we like, murder on the vocals, violate me Passing complexion: yum yum sushi, conveyor food wizzes by, I’m hungry, high school halls smell starchy. Five star because it is making a new mold. It doesn't seem like it aged because it has such freshness, I’m sure some would say it has a rotten vegetable smell. I say it smells of heated organic decay that I call humus. Perfect sound.
This is a solid three, probably a 3.4 as most of them are covers. It does not cross new ground but covers old ground in a solid way. I would listen to this if I needed a good start for a hard day to come. 3.4
Not my speed
A great album to wake up to. Yesterday’s, Richard howley was a bit slow to start the day. But now that I am up and about it’s a great album. Different albums for different parts of the day? 4 stars for this wake upper.
Girls against boys started as a side project started by Brandon Canty the drummer for Fugazi. Brandon Cantù is the It has a darker feel. It also features Scott McCloud, a member of one of my favorite all time bands Soul Side. This is the first time I listened to Girls against Boys. I really dig the sound of “Girls against boys”, it has those dirty guitar licks I love, the deep resonating vocals, and an ethic of let’s kick ass (punk rock). I would listen to this album to break things up. This is there sophomore effort. I can hear the sonic rumble I love in soul side and other bands like them on Discord. This album was released on “touch and go”! A five for daring to be that band that brings the noise to focused harmony. A five star album to me must have a guttural reaction, it can’t be considered that’s “nice”. It must either be considered great by some and others think it’s horrid. The diverse ratings shows that you have to have a reaction to the album. As a teacher once said sitting on a fence post create a mighty wedge. This album does not sit on a fence post.
2 not my cup of joe, recording made the sound muddled.
These live recordings are phenomenal.
Pitchfork review said, “ It was music for the revolution that wasn’t televised.” Yea it seems a little forward politically, but her voice is crystal on porcelain. I agree with the independent” At 74 minutes, it wanders out of the groove far too much. They could have chopped 20 minutes off this.” I at times wanted to groove and was yawning instead. 3 star for me!
Hit songs: Sunny Afternoon
Just like lavender is supposed to be calming; cold play is described by some as soothing instrumentations. For me though it is far from calming, in fact I want to be destructive, not that I am a violent person, but forced calming is something I can’t abide in. This album is a one.
Pitchfork said “ In short, it's fun and functional, yet disposable: Play is the condom of rock.”At least it’s not a used condom, but it’s safe!
Canadian band that rocks. I loved this album when it first came out. I was an emotionally wrecked dude when it first came out, this album brought me tears, as tofu burned up the back of my apartment. I was nervous to listen to it again, but it rocks out. I really liked the NME review of this album. 9
10:10 a classic classic soundtrack This album was the soundtrack to a blaxploitation film starring Ron o’Neil and directed by Gordon parks junior. The album is my favorite Time line 1972 great albums: the seventies was a time of progressive music. The music pushed the boundaries of space and time. So many good albums came out at that time, a lot to be excited about from Jim Croce to Yes. These include- Wars” the world is a ghetto” Genesis “foxtrot” Allman brothers “eat a peach” Frank Zappa “wake/jawaka” David Bowie “the rise and fall of ziggy stardust” Stevie wonder “talking book” Yes “close to the edge” Fela kuta “Shakira” Jim Croce “you don’t mess around with Jim”
My brother bought this for my birthday in 1986, I was thirteen, and loved playing it under the stairs of my parent’s house. A great album. My parents hated it and would forbid me from playing it on my fisher price record player. They did not understand the power of hip hop. So what do I think of it now? It sounds dated but it’d great.
