Brothers by The Black Keys
Dec 10 2025
Low by David Bowie
Dec 11 2025
Tommy by The Who
Dec 15 2025

Outside of Pinball Wizard, this album is just not for me. Maybe meant for a different time but this does not endure to the 20th century.

Dec 16 2025

This album surprised me how much it lives up to the mythos as one of the standards of hip hop history. Full of bangers and source material for rhymes through the decades.

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Dec 17 2025

Good jams for milling about your tool shed to avoid the ol’ ball n’ chain

The Rolling Stones by The Rolling Stones
Dec 18 2025

The Stones like you’ve never heard them…and is that such a bad thing? It’s just blues covers

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Dec 19 2025

A little too raw for me, I like the layer Black Sabbath stuff more, but the riffs are very sick.

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Dec 22 2025
Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Dec 23 2025

Who hurt these men, Boss? And who hurt you?

Murder Ballads by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

Dec 25 2025

Beautiful as it always has been

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Dec 29 2025

It might be the nostalgia talking, but this album rips, especially the instrumentals. Falls short of perfection because of the vocals and some skippable tracks.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Dec 30 2025

So deep in the pocket that the beat is covered in lint.

Dec 31 2025

Certified bangers. This album earns its reputation. I felt ready to fight after listening to this album

90 by 808 State
Jan 01 2026

The jobsite hated when I got stuck in an hours-long dance trace listening to this.

The Message by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
Jan 02 2026

I can see how groundbreaking this might’ve been at the time, but I am unfortunately not unc enough to understand or appreciate that. The singing on some of the tracks is great and I enjoyed the more substantive messages on some of the songs. Good stuff.

I Should Coco by Supergrass
Jan 05 2026

This album quest is like golf—hours upon hours of misery and anguish, but one good shot will make you say, “ah, that’s why they call it the greatest game.” This is one of those good golf shots.

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
Jan 06 2026

I had a steady groove going with this one.

Jan 07 2026

The British bias on this list is nutty, how is this an essential listen? The dudes seem chill enough

Heroes to Zeros by The Beta Band
Jan 09 2026

Could’ve not listened to this before I die

The Clash by The Clash
Jan 12 2026

Surprised by how much I liked this one, what a fun listen. White Riot is great. Punk music is a good listen when you’re leftist

Jan 13 2026

Memorable riffs, a driving rhythm, bangers up and down the tracklist…it’s one of the all-time great rock albums.

Wonderful Rainbow by Lightning Bolt
Jan 14 2026

This album is like in the beginning of 2001: A Space Odyssey when the apes are screaming at the monolith. The apes are this band, and the monolith is the Math Rock genre

Jan 15 2026

This is one of the cornerstone hip hop albums of the 2000s. His flow is undeniable. 50 is a legend for this and the Diddy doc

Three songs take it from a 2 to a 3, and you know which ones they are.

Happy Trails by Quicksilver Messenger Service
Jan 30 2026

Jamming out and noodling is underhated as a genre. Made me angry the longer I went on and I didn’t make it to the end.

Gen X is the ultimate “lobster too buttery; steak too tender” generation, and they made/listened to music like this to simulate oppression amidst a banal existence. Butt Rock.

Bongo Rock by Incredible Bongo Band
Mar 19 2026

Just another weird one to cover all the author’s bases for making a comprehensive album list.

Mar 20 2026
