1001 Albums Summary

Very enjoyable listen for my first album of this project!

I listened from start to finish, and I enjoyed some parts... but Zappa's out there.

I hadn't heard this one before--I'm confident I'll be listening to it again!

This is the first R.E.M. album I've ever listened to--not a bad introduction!

Oooof... all I knew of Franz Ferdinand was Take Me Out, and I finished this album thinking it's all I really needed to know.

This is the first album I've been served that I've known backwards and forwards--I don't have a clue what they're saying, but I've spent countless hours making art with Sigur Ros playing in the background, specifically this album.

I love Kind of Blue, but Bitches Brew has always been a bit manic for my taste.

I knew of "Criminal", but was clueless about the rest of the album. This is a great one!

I know a handful of Zepplin songs, but never planned to listen to a straight Zepplin album--this was better than I anticipated, pretty enjoyable while working.

Oooof. I listened all the way through, and I feel like I deserve a medal for doing it.

By the time this album was finished, I found that I was sitting in a smoky Las Vegas ballroom and I'd eaten half a prime rib.

I'm sure this is a "great U2 album", but all U2 sounds pretty much the same to me.

I really enjoyed this one!

I wanted to hate it, but it took me straight back to middle school in a surprisingly good way.

This is a renaissance festival of an album.

If nothing else, it felt period-appropriate and jives with the album art.

If you're looking to overdose on Van Morrison, this'll do it.

I knew nothing of Kate Bush, and liked this album a whole lot more than I anticipated!

Two 1-star albums in a row--woof!

I was served two Elvis Costello albums 10 slots apart--and I hated the second even more than the first.

I'm just over 100 albums in, and this is my second Kanye West album. It isn't my typical music genre, but I enjoyed both albums twice in the same day. He's clearly very talented, it's a shame about his mental health.

I’m surprised Lana Del Rey made the list, but THIS is the album that made it? Not Born to Die? Woof.

Absolutely fantastic album.

Hard to say if I like this album more than Ziggy Stardust, but it's totally possible.

This is a very good album, but his immense talent doesn’t outweigh the fact that he was likely a prolific pederast.

If you wanted It’s Friday I’m in Love, this isn’t the album for you.

I can’t seem to find what’s so good about this one.

I understand Coldplay went on to become very popular and overplayed... but it doesn't mean this album wasn't good, because it's pretty good.

This one didn't do it for me--maybe a future album from The Smiths will?

That makes two Joni Michell albums for me, and I think I can officially conclude that I'm not a fan.

Randomly listen to any 5 songs and you've basically heard the whole album, then invest your saved time into something else.

I was previously unfamiliar with John Lee Hooker, but enjoyed this album and plan to listen to a few more--exactly why I'm doing this project!

Without “Stress” and “The Party”, this would be an easy 4 or 5 stars.

It wasn't bad... but I don't see if/why it's significant.

This is an absolutely fantastic album—but if Michael Jackson were a known pedophile who went on to write awesome music, nobody would be listening. He’ll get a 1/5 for everything from me—immense talent shouldn’t dismiss horrendous deeds.

I understand why it's 2+ hours, and how it combined stars from several generations of bluegrass/country into one album, and the instrumentals are incredible... but it's all a bit much.

This album sounds like an early 90's sitcom... how'd it get on here?

It wasn't something I disliked, but it wasn't something I'd necessarily listen to again.

Not my personal preference, but I can see how their music was cutting edge and influential of rock musicians who followed, so I'm giving this a 4 rather than a 3.

This album was served to me the day after Dolly Parton passed away, which seemed very timely--it's not my musical taste, but I can appreciate the talent and the good she brought to the world.

I have no idea what they were saying, but I followed this album into a full afternoon of Brazilian tunes on Spotify and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I assumed I’d heard this whole album by now… but it seems like I’d only heard the bangers… which are the only things worth listening to, honestly.

Now THAT'S what people are talking about when they say country music is sad.

I really thought I disliked Lenny Kravitz, but this one was a pleasant surprise.

This is the kind of album I'd buy right off the turntable if I happened to hear playing in a record store--very enjoyable listen!

It's just noise.

Every now and then, I get an album that makes me glad I'm doing this project... then I get a Joni Mitchell or Elvis Costello, and immediately regret it again. This Fela Kuti album is one of the good ones! (Overall, it's a 5 Star album, but the 15-minute meandering drum solo at the end brought it down, in my opinion.)

Trust me. You can die without listening to this. You're not missing out.

Ok... this one's getting 5 Stars because it's the band's first album and somehow there are at least 4 all-time hit songs on it. Does this mean I'm a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan? Probably not, but how many artists make this type of showing right out of the gate? Not many.

Perhaps a single AC/DC Greatest Hits album could suffice? I'm not saying this wasn't a fine enough album, but how much AC/DC is "too much" AC/DC? It certainly doesn't take a lot.
