I’ve never heard a Eminem album so this should be interesting.
It definitely feels pretty edgelord, but that cultural movement was probably inspired by this album in part.
There’s a weird amount of lyrics about school shootings. I guess maybe because it was new thing back then.
First half has a few great songs, production is very good all around.
Most songs are dense with little details. Definitely new things to notice on relisten.
Ken Kaniff is probably the worst skit ever.
The second runs a little long and can be annoying.
Kim is a pretty wild song. Definitely a highlight.
Good album overall.
Fav song: The Way I Am
Least Fav song: I’m Back
A beautiful “airy” album.
I really like the musical palate.
Best song: The Windmills of Your Mind
Worst song: Just One Smile
Hey I was named after this guy.
I’ve already listened to This Year’s Model, which I liked.
I think this albulm has higher high points, but is sometimes grating and sometimes boring. Overall good.
Best song: No Dancing
Worst song: Sneaky Feelings
I could see this albulm growing on me.
Fav song: Talk About The Passion
Interesting ideas but I’m just not really a fan of disco.
Favorite Song: All about love
Least Favorite song: that’s the way of the world
I gave this albulm a second listen. I never thought that this albulm was able to live up to its reputation, and I still don’t. It’s definitely influential, but I feel like most bands since have figured out what needed to stay and what needed to go.
Favorite song: I talk to the wind
Least Favorite: Moonchild
I think this a fantastic album. Definitely deserving of being on this list (even though most people on this site seem to disagree).
Favorite song: He Would Have Laughed
Least favorite song: Sailing
Just not very interesting to me. Maybe I should learn to appreciate the “hard rock” vocal style and do a relisten.
Favorite song: Sister Luck
Least Favorite song: Could I’ve Been So Blind
The folk songs are actually pretty good but I still can’t stand the hard rock voice. I’m sorry.
Favorite song: That’s the way
Least favorite song: Celebration day
It’s alright .
Favorite song: Reelin’ in the years
Least favorite song: Midnite Cruiser
I liked this album better on this revisit. It sounds less annoying than I remember. I better understand why everyone always praises the production on this albulm. There are some moments where the song writing and vocal style really work for me, some where it just doesn’t.
Favorite song: God Only Knows
Least Favorite: That’s Not Me
Those opening tracks are generational.
I really like the way they write songs.
The bands that came to mind when listening to this were Sonic Youth and Women.
Favorite song: Paintwork
Least Favorite song: Couldn’t Get Ahead
It sounds like shoegaze flaming lips.
But unlike how the vocals play into atmosphere and absurd lyrics in Flaming Lips songs, here they just kind of sound bad.
There are some highlights but overall it’s just not very good.
Favorite song: The Funny Bird
Least Favorite song: Hudson Line
Kind of forgettable.
Favorite song: Me & Mr Jones
Least Favorite song: Some Unholy Water
I’ve listened to a lot of Q-Tip through a tribe called quest and various features. Although I’d never even heard of this solo album.
This album is a pretty cool blending of styles. You some decent early 2000s pop soul stuff, but the J Dilla tracks are for sure my favorite.
It’s a good albulm, but nothing really exceptional, especially in the context of a tribe called quest.
Favorite Song: Move
Least Favorite Song: Won’t Trade
It’s alright. Pretty good for hard rock.
Judging just based on the music, it’s perfectly mediocre.
Favorite song: The Bed’s Too Big Without You
Least favorite song: On Any Other Day
It’s crazy how over the top this albulm is, while still being boring. The lyrics are also terrible.
It’s extremely formulatic (and there are only a few songs where the formula works).
Favorite song: Prince of the Rodeo
Least favorite song: Don’t Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker
Highlights are very cool.
Favorite Song: Spacelab
Least Favorite Song: Neon Lights
I guess they hadn’t really figured out metal vocals yet. The instrumentals are cool though.
Favorite Song: Breaking the Law
Least Favorite Song: The Rage
Songs are a mixed bag but there is definitely some storytelling I missed on the first listen.
Favorite Song: Fistful of love
Least Favorite song: Hopes theres someone
The explosive opening kinda set it up for failure. Theres a lot of cool proto-punk ideas, but mixed execution.
It’s alright. The main thing holding back the worst songs are the vocals.
Favorite song: Flute
Least Favorite Song: Always Been Your Love
I’d heard some of Prince’s songs before this, but I didn’t expect this album to be this amazing. It feels like I found the missing link to most of the r&b I like.
Favorite Song: If I Was Your Girlfriend
Least Favorite Song: Slow Love
Surprisingly good. Some pretty bad low points.
Pretty cool album. I didn’t realize the foo fighters originally sounded like this. It makes me curious about the rest of their discography, although I doubt most of those albums will be anywhere near as good as this.
Favorite song: Exhausted
Least Favorite Song: For All the Cows
I always liked the song Girls Just Want To Have Fun. It was cool hearing it in its full context. Pretty cool albulm.
Favorite Song: Girls Just Want To Have Fun
Least Favorite Song: I’ll Kiss You
I think drum & bass is a really cool genre. However this album was pretty boring unfortunately.
Favorite Song: Brown Paper Bag
Least Favorite Song: Beatbox
I liked this albulm a lot more than the man machine. Some parts reminded of the Ape of Naples for some reason. As for as 70s electronic music goes it’s hard to imagine there’s anything better than this.
Favorite Song: The Hall of Mirrors
Least Favorite Song: Trans-Europe Express
(But it’s still very good)
I saw a review saying some people just don’t get it, and I don’t really get it.
Favorite song: Smooth Operator
Nu metal voice.
Good album though.
Nearly a flawless album. The vocal talent is obviously amazing, but the showy parts are also perfectly exucuted. This one’s staying in my downloads.
Favorite Song: This Flight Tonight
Least Favorite Song: A Case of You
My favorite songs were the first two and last three.
Favorite song: E-pro
Least Favorite Song: Scarecrow
I thought some of the songs at the start were a bit boring but then it went into a direction I wasn’t expecting. Probably my favorite daft punk albulm out of the three I’ve heard
Favorite song: Alive
Least Favorite song: Phoenix
Amazing albulm. Some of the coolest lofi production ever.
Favorite Song: In A Jar
Some highlights but most of the albulm doesn’t really work for me
Favorite song: The Nurse
Least Favorite Song: Take, Take, Take
I feel like it’s best when it embraces dynamics, but a lot of the music is just flat.
But Cure for the Itch was a huge surprise. I’d definitely listen to a Linkin Park trip hop album.
Favorite Song: In the End
Least Favorite Song: Forgotten
