Grower not a shower. The lyricism and musicality is uniquely her. Makes me miss the coziness of 90’s angst. She inspired a Nick Cave album ffs. She’s on the Mount Rushmore of cool.
I’ve never connected with U2’s music, no matter how catchy. This album is no different unfortunately. Happy to leave it behind.
Never knew how much I didn’t like the Police until now. Go figure. ‘Every Breath You Take’ is a banger.
Upbeat rhythms and a spunky sound, but lyrically it’s not that interesting. These bad boys might steal your daughter, but at least they’ll remove their flat caps when entering the house.
Unique and synthy sound. They created something original.
It’s a fine album I guess. Doesn’t really grab me, though I always thought their fans were cool. I prefer The Breeders.
I love this album. No one else sounds like the Talking Heads.
To learn that BB King has 15+ kids is no surprise after hearing this album. Baby making music ya’ll.
I used to listen to this stuff. Not sure why.
Pretty cool but a little same samey after a while
Early white boy blues rock. I’m not mad at it.
Uh huh huh yessssss dude
https://youtu.be/UDCsVkqE1tQ?feature=shared
“Funeral” was game changing, but this is still fun.
Upbeat and fun with a heavy sound, Dookie might just be the shit.
I was really digging the album until “Bang a Gong” took me out of it. I struggled to recover.
I’m not usually a fan of collab albums but this one is amazing. John Lee Hooker makes feeling bad feel good. I could listen to his voice all day.
Early 90s Seattle bands make me all warm and fuzzy. Not the greatest album as a whole but I enjoyed it.
This album was played on repeat in Randy Van Gelder’s car. Randy used to drive me to high school in 9th grade. His Mazda had custom installed neon lights underneath the seats. While this album brings back a certain nostalgia from those times, it makes me appreciate that I never have to rely on a ride in that car again.
Nuclear war concept albums are neat. Not my favorite style wise, but it was a good train listen.
Unnnnnngghhh. Nasty Nas and 90’s hip hop FTW!
Warning: This album causes ED
Some decent highs and corny lows.
Great album despite it being co-opted by Urban Outfitters and a certain kind of coffee shop.
I love the idea is Sir Paul and MJ fighting over a woman
Kashmir and Down by the Seaside stand out for me. I’m sure they would have been great live.
First time listening to this album. So good!
Wow. Another first for me and me like.
Dude has Bowie voice! Interesting stuff. While there were some good tracks I don’t need the entire album.
I liked it and I didn’t like it. Reviews can be hard.
They clearly played an important role in the musical timeline of my generation. Great listen.
There are musicians that can help me appreciate this genre more. Basement Jaxx ain’t one of them.
Legendary album. Respect to the MIB
This album, weed and headphones = perfect teenage cocktail.
Sacrebleu! This album has a certain je ne sais quoi but I shan’t spin it again.
Yes!! The Sonic Youth album accessible to non AP high schoolers
“If it’s not Scottish it’s crap!” - Mike Meyers, SNL
I wish I liked them more but they’re just ok to me.
One of the greatest bar bands around. Everything’s bigger in Texas including the sound these tres hombres make.
Prefer watching “24 Hour Party People” than listening to JD. Respect tho.
That first track! Liked this album much more than I thought I would.
When this came out I really enjoyed it. Doesn’t hit the same for me but such a distinctive mood. This is what an end of life album sounds like.
Sampling with no consequences. A classic!
Front to back this album makes sense. What a vibe
What a great voice. Some songs hit real nice and some are sappy sapperstein.
Longest punk album I ever done heard
If I were around in 1967 I’d have really appreciated the originality and fun of this album. But in 2025 so much of it feels dated and corny.
Sweet harmonies. I’m more of a Pet Sounds gal but I bopped to this too
‘Head over heels’ serves as a high water mark when I think of popular 80’s songs. 5 outta 5, a perfect tune.
When I was young and stoned and learning about music I listened to this often. Definite nostalgia vibes for an era I was never a part of, but still played a role in my musical journey.
Wagwan fam. Great energy, great flow.
‘Breaking the law’ is a tuuuuune!
Dick in a box is straight fire, son
Iconic album from one of the greats. No filler, it’s my favorite of theirs front to back. And such cool cover art to boot. To boot ☝🏼
More hits than a Mike Tyson fight
I really love this album. You wouldn’t want to play the second half at a party but it’s such good mood music. Bowie/Eno go together like PB&J.
3 legends making some beautiful music with this one. Those harmonies soar. I only wish the song selection and arrangements allowed for more upbeat ditties.
They were probably a lotta fun live back in the day
I’m so bored with the USA. Amen.
I never explored The Clash in spite of every music nerd telling me I should. So many good tunes on this one. Lyrically and musically it is way more interesting than I thought it’d be. Guess I have to get into the Clash now.
I appreciate the sound but it’s boresville to these ears
This album had me grooving hard on the subway.
Decent background music maybe?
Hell yeah. Didn’t know the Temptations did grooves like that. Into it!
Not my favorite of his, but I haven’t met a Johnny Cash original or cover I didn’t like.
I bit the head off a bat this morning to honor his holiness. Tastes like chicken.
The moody, brooding vibe of this album comforts me in more ways than I care to admit. If “sadly hopeful rock for misanthropes” were a genre, this would be the gold standard.
Bluebird Wine is such a tune and a perfect album opener. Emmylou got that noice golden voice.
I might enjoy Mr Newman’s music during a panel discussion at the 92nd st Y, but I don’t ever need to listen to an album of his again.
I miss Nirvana. I miss the ethos of the 90’s. But here we are. Kurt is gone, the Foo Fighters sell out stadiums and societal collapse is imminent. Pickle ball could be fun I guess.
Nothing really grabbed me here
I should like early prog rock but I find it kinda cheesy.
Fresh take on a vintage sound. Incredible the amount of sound just two instruments can make.
Interesting stuff here, but not for me.
With that gritty sound and so many familiar covers, this would be a good late night bar album.
Opening track put me off, but the moody vibe of the second one pulled me in. The rest of the album is filled with sneaky grooves and warm melodies. There’s even a song about Big Muffs inspired by a convo with Lee Scratch Perry. What more could you ask for?
I love this fucker so much. Acoustic Dylan solo with a harmonica moves me to tears. Electric Dylan moves me to boogie. Coolest Jew I never knew.
“Call 1-800-PP5 1-Doo Doo, I’m in your corner.”
Dr. Octagon is a homicidal, extraterrestrial, time-traveling gynecologist and surgeon. My old job! I would have loved this back in 96.
Love me some Neil Young but this felt very vanilla.
Talented musicians and decent rhythms, but the melodies and lyrics are cornball.
I grooved hard to this. Wasn’t expecting that from the Sex Pistols.
Apparently I’m a Top 40 Queen fan. I appreciate what they’re doing on this album, but just give me the hits and hold the rest please. With all due respect…
Hearing this for the first time back in the 80’s must’ve been wiiiiiiiiiild.
How many interludes is too many interludes? Now I know.
A Sufjan album is too much Sufjan.
Pairs great with a NYC stroll
Such an amazing voice but the album felt pretty uneven to me.
The production of this album is perfect and Kendrick is the GOAT. All the stars.
Love the songs on this album even though the audio quality leaves a lot to be desired.
Can’t go wrong with this album. It has that feel good, comfy cozy vibe. Pares well with Sunday afternoons on the sofa or country drives with the windows down.
Like sonic ambrosia for restless suburban kids. Punch me square in the mouth and put on any Radiohead starting with “The Bends” through to “In Rainbows.”
I’m starting to understand why Brian Eno is held in such high regard.
Incredible album. Not exactly for my tastes these days but it’s hard to deny how good it is.
If Twee were a musical genre it would sound like this. Odd that I never properly listened to them before. Fun stuff.
This made me uncomfortable
89 was the year of guilt free sampling apparently. This and Paul’s Boutique changed the game.
Note to self: Stock up on Ludens
Major props to the godfather
Good rock n roll, poppy energy
There’s a lot to unpack with this one - more than I’m willing to type on a phone. I was 23 when this album came out and its music and fans didn’t exactly match my vibe. Listening to it now I admire his vulnerability, even if I don’t like much of the substance. Some young white dudes did not know how to process this album in a healthy way and it showed. There is no doubt a thru line for a certain type of incel whose origin story can be traced back to it. Both they and the Eminem of 2000 could have used a hug. Still though, the boy got flow and a self deprecating humor I like.
Some of these tracks really alter the curve. As a whole it’s 3.425 ⭐️
The rhythm and structure of the lyrics don’t age well, but some of those beats still funk me up. And It’s like that, and that’s the way it is.
Can never go wrong with Talking Heads
What sort of person doesn’t at least think about crying when listening to Neil sing “helpless?” Fuckin weirdo
This the start of cosmic and alt country?
Some real fun tracks on this one
Cant imagine Morrissey is a good hang, but some of his lyrics are beautiful.
Damn, that wasn’t great. Probably a 2 but I’m rounding up for a legendary human.
Killing Moon! I say goddamn, what a tune! Everything else not so much.
Not my favorite of their albums but they always blow the doors off live
Good for a post thanksgiving food coma
It’s fine, but it sucks. I suppose it’s ok. But mainly it sucks. I have no right to judge. I haven’t done much with my life and this sucks, even though at times it’s ok. But mainly it sucks.
Who dis? Beat expectations
“Return to Cookie Mountain” hooked me hard, but all of ‘em are great records. Happy to see they’re performing again.
Awesome but I don’t need an entire album of it
One or two songs have potential to be decent covers by different artists.
If Bad Company were a car they’d be a red Camaro
I’m one and done with Dookie. No mas
Hard to beat 70’s Neil. I prefer the live version of these songs more though.
