4/5
Her voice is so rich and emotional. I really enjoyed the album, even though it is far outside my normal jam. Her version of House of the Rising Sun was haunting.

Dusty Springfield
5/5
I had never heard of Dusty Springfield, but I recognized at least four of her songs from radio and movies. Her voice is so full and buttery, I can't imagine how hard it would be to sing all these songs back-to-back at a live performance. This was my first album of the 1001, great way to start the journey.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
4/5
I enjoyed the richness of the singer's voice and the darker undertones and themes.
Metallica
1/5
I have never been a fan of Metallica but I have to admit, the band is talented- even if metal is not my style.
Miles Davis
3/5
No lyrics, but interesting enough jazz to keep my attention. Miles Davis was beyond talented and a prolific musician. I enjoyed this album though it is not my usual style. Glad I jammed it!
Common
2/5
I had never heard of Common before and didn't recognize any of the songs but there were a few I really enjoyed. There were biblical themes and several songs showing this came out in 2005. Not my favorite, but glad I gave it a shot.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
Classic. Easy to listen to and be Jammin'!
Suede
4/5
This album had many sad undertones I found myself relating to even if I prefer upbeat and happy to escape my own pain. It felt like a sixties album released in the 90s. Very unique.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
2/5
I have never been a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers so I hadn't listened to any songs not played on the radio. My first impression was a jamming bass line an there's way more funk than I thought there would be. The music videos were more psychedelic than expected.
I am definitely stupider after listening to "Apache Rose Peacock".
T. Rex
3/5
I had never heard of T.Rex. I think my parents were too old to know them and I was too young. However, the album was a fun jam. I didn't recognize any of the songs, but I recognized the sound of a fun jamming this band.
Sufjan Stevens
4/5
I really enjoyed the song, "They are Night Zombies!! They are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back from the Dead!! Ahhhh!" and listened to it multiple times. I can see this album growing on me, though the random underlying references to biblical teachings are off-putting.
Nina Simone
5/5
This album is.. chefs kiss. I will be listening to it again. So romantic, intimate, and sultry. The four women song is thought provoking and greatly challenged the thoughts on women in the 1950s. I loved every second of this album and have suggested it to multiple people.
PJ Harvey
4/5
I thoroughly enjoyed this album. PJ Harvey's energy comes through and I particularly liked the first song starting soft and then going hard out of no where. It set the tone for the rest of the album.
Gary Numan
1/5
Synthesizers! Synthesizers everywhere. Did this guy start the eighties synth craze? Random was appropriately named! I enjoyed the cover of On Broadway, but overall, not my style. I can see how this album influenced many artists and am glad I listened to it.
The Dandy Warhols
3/5
I enjoyed the synth mixed with rock, though many of the songs sounded alike. They definitely have an identifiable sound.
Big Brother & The Holding Company
5/5
Classic album with Piece of my Heart being a song I was raised with. I can't imagine what music Janice would have created if she had lived longer, but thank goodness she recorded what she did. Her voice is so unique and easily identifiable. Tragic end to a talented musician. As for the album, I loved it. Great album through and through.
Beatles
5/5
I can not count the number of times I have listened to this album. I was raised on the Beatles and my favorite songs have evolved as I age. An Octipus's Garden and Maxwell's Silver Hammer were childhood favorites, while as an adult I have fallen in love with Carry that Weight and Goodbye. I would say the hardest part is picking your favorite. I am tempted to stop at this album for a few weeks and just consume it.
Daft Punk
1/5
Some bangers from my youth, but some of the songs were really hard to listen to- like Rollin' and Scratchin' and Rock'n Roll. Some of the sounds in are really grating! I powered through, but dang!! Not a bad album to listen to while doing my homework - over all, good energy.
The Band
3/5
I didn't recognize any of the songs and am surprised my dad didn't play this for me, as it is his style and from his favorite music period. I wish he was still alive so I could ask him about it. The Unfaithful Servant was my favorite from the album.
Wilco
3/5
Unique sound, but nothing grabbed my attention. I do tend to enjoy Indie, but there wasn't a song on here that hooked me.
Marty Robbins
5/5
This sound is iconic. I don't think I have ever heard it, but I have heard countless songs inspired by it. I love the story-telling! "Big Iron" got me right out the gate, but I really like "In the Valley" too. I feel like my Grandma played this many years ago. I want to listen to this on a road trip!
AC/DC
5/5
Countless movie soundtracks and commercials. This music has been everywhere. I was even reminded of Butt-Head wearing an AC DC shirt. Though I have never listened to the album before, I knew every song. There is a reason this is the second best selling album of all time.
I am not going to lie- the short shorts really threw me. I had no idea what the lead singer looked like and I would not have guessed that voice came from that body.
Who could possibly dislike, "Rock and Roll ain't Noise Pollution"!?!?
The Jam
3/5
Starts strong with a great bass line. Very catchy and has underlying punk-rock sounds while mixing with the synthetic styles coming into the 1980s.
The Darkness
3/5
The confidence to go out and make exactly the music they wanted is amazing. His voice has quite a range. I believe in a Thing Called Love takes me right back to college. Otherwise, glam rock isn't really my thing.
The Cars
5/5
I did not know I was familiar with the Cars. There were only two songs I didn't know all the lyrics to.
Only 9 songs?? and seven of them were big enough bangers I knew them from the radio? This album came out years before I was born. Great album. I am adding it to my regular rotation. It plays like a Greatest Hit's album.
Jimmy Smith
4/5
I loved the organ- I have never heard an organ used in jazz and it takes years to learn how to play an organ. Such a cool and unexpected sound, I had to look up what instrument he was using. Very smooth and nice to listen to while I study.
Ramones
3/5
I was excited to jam this album as I have enjoyed the Blitzkrieg Bop in movies, commercials, and on the radio my entire life. The album as a whole felt one dimensional with little differentiating the songs. The Ramones had a distinctive sound, but I fear it was the only sound they could make.
Fairport Convention
4/5
I like the way the music builds using both instruments and voice. The lyrics were thought provoking- I would definitely listen to this album again.
The Zutons
4/5
I enjoyed this one- I found myself rocking out while I worked. A few songs stuck out to me and I could see listening to it again and it growing on me.
The Undertones
3/5
The best song was the last one- What's with Terry. Very catchy.
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
5/5
Oh Boy! Great album. I knew a few of the songs, but it really transported me back to my grandparents house.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
4/5
I enjoyed it. I have heard of Elvis Costello many times but did not recognize any of his music. It was rocking!
Jeru The Damaja
3/5
Not my style but I really enjoyed it. I like how clearly he rapped so I could understand everything that was said- you can tell he made sure to annunciate with intentionality. Not a Fan of Da Bitchez, but it was kinda catchy, lol. "Bitch!" This album definitely throws me back to early '90s rap.
...I can't be sure, but I think this guy might be from Brooklyn.
T. Rex
3/5
I had hear Bang a Gong before and I enjoyed Life's a Gas. This is my second T.Rex album and before listening to these albums I had never heard of the band.
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
This album is a classic. I love the guitar and bluesy feel. I can practically smell the marijuana smoke in the air while I listen to it. I could jam this album over and over again!
Neil Young
4/5
His voice was a bit off at first, but it grew on me. I recognized Southern Man and enjoyed the piano in the Birds. I see why this was on the list of classics.
Joni Mitchell
4/5
Her voice sounds like a flute. I was really impressed with her lyricism- I couldn't help but be drawn into her music as it demanded my full attention.
Fairport Convention
4/5
I really enjoy the singer's accent and the Celtic folk sound. Combining this with all the different instruments builds a unique sound I really enjoyed.
D'Angelo
4/5
This isn't my style, but I am really enjoying the melodies. Apparently D'Angelo died 7 days ago (10/14/2025)?!? Fuck Cancer!
Me and Those Dreamin' Eyes of Mine was excellent.
Elvis Costello
4/5
I still did not recognize any of the songs, but it was enjoyable. I liked the last two songs the best. Waiting for the End of the World had a great swing sound to it.
Queens Of The Stone Age
4/5
I really liked You Would Know. Several of the songs caught my attention and were jammin! I had heard of this band before, but not listened to an album. It definitely threw me back to high school.
I am super disappointed there aren't any women in Queens of the Stone Age.
The Kinks
5/5
I really enjoyed this album. the lyrics were both silly and profound.
Nick Drake
3/5
Very poetic and can hit just right when you are in the right headspace for this album.
Frank Sinatra
5/5
Classic! His voice is like butter! His music always reminds me of my grandparents.
Khaled
3/5
Lively beat and very different style of music than I have ever listened to before. I enjoyed how different this was from everything else I have heard through this project.
Traffic
5/5
I love the flute! Not enough artists incorporate this amazing instrument.
In some ways their sound reminds me of the Allman Brother's- high praise as it was my father's favorite band. They are definitely jamming and I want to listen to this album again.
Lou Reed
4/5
I had no idea Perfect Day was by Lou Reed. Such an amazing song! Immediate flash-back to Trainspotting.
Walk on the Wild Side is another I have heard and remember listening to with my dad.
Billy Bragg
5/5
"...and maybe we will have all the fascists' out of the way by then."
Great album! Will jam again!
As a matter of fact, I already did. I jammed this one back-to-back.
Jeff Beck
5/5
I really enjoy the energy and the emotion of the music and the emotion in his voice. I love the blues themes.
Ol' Man River is a favorite of mine. Overall, great album.
Scott Walker
4/5
I do enjoy songs that tell a story. The Seventh Seal gets pretty dark.
He has a beautiful voice! I particularly enjoyed Get Behind Me. He is such a romantic!
Talking Heads
4/5
Great album. I liked the new music video for Psycho Killer. I had heard of the Talking Heads, but never jammed them before.
Jane Weaver
5/5
Wow- this album sets the tone right from the start. The songs and her voice are hypnotizing. I really enjoyed Modern Kosmology- I see why they named the album after this track.
Can
1/5
The first few songs were really jamming. Aumgn went off the deep end with some psychedelic moaning
New Order
2/5
His voice is very pitchy. The beat was good, but overall the songs were hard to listen to.
Astor Piazzolla
4/5
I love the xylophone! I want to learn to play the xylophone so bad! There is never enough xylophone in music.
I really enjoyed listening to this while I worked.
Wire
4/5
I can hear how this band influenced so many punk bands. I am a punker at heart and thoroughly enjoyed the album.
Missy Elliott
3/5
Catchy. Not really my style, but it was catchy. I remember when this album came out and some of the music videos really took me back to my youth.
Beck
3/5
Que' Onda Guero was auditorily stimulating and kept my attention. Hell Yes is a combination of rock and techno with a killer baseline.
808 State
3/5
I am not on enough drugs (any) to enjoy this music, though there are some times from my youth I would have been down for a rave with this music playing. It was great to jam with headphones on while I got my work done. I did share with a friend who loves this type of music and he gave it a solid thumbs up.
Jacques Brel
4/5
This guy sure can roll his "r"s. The song Amsterdam has such passion- even though I can't understand French, I can feel the emotion. Very well done!
Radiohead
3/5
Meh. It was rather melancholy and not really matching my mood. I can see a time and a place for this, but I have other music I jam when I am depressed.
Liz Phair
4/5
At first I really didn't like it as she was off key a few times, but her style really grew on me as I jammed the album. By the end, I was suggesting her to other people to give a listen.
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
5/5
This album was great! Very much the style I was raised on. I will listen to this one again.
Milton Nascimento
2/5
I enjoyed how different this was from other albums but not really by cup of tea. The last song was my favorite-um Gosto de SOL.
The Velvet Underground
5/5
I really enjoyed Pale Blue Eyes- very catching and I found myself singing along with it even during the first listen. The Murder Mystery Song was excellent. I miss the days of artist being free to bring politics and societal issues into their music.
Christina Aguilera
5/5
I really enjoyed this album. I haven't jammed Christina Aguilera outside of what I heard on the radio back in the day. I really enjoyed several of the songs on this album and would enjoy jamming again.
Meat Puppets
1/5
Okay, I have heard Nirvana cover Plateau, Oh, Me, and Lake of Fire, but it sounded better. What a trip back to my youth!
It is very hard to listen to this guy sing off key, but it somehow makes the songs more interesting to listen to. I can't decide if I like it or hate it.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
1/5
I just don't like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Whiny. Listening to the full album was hard. I liked this one less than the first one I listened to, "Blood Sugar Sex Magik".
Fishbone
5/5
Very catchy! This is the first ska sound I have heard, but the album has a ton of different sounds. I love the combination. Bonin' in the Boneyard was especially enjoyable.
Slow Bus Movin' was very fun and unique- a completely different sound than the other songs.
Massive Attack
4/5
Massive Attack is special! I enjoyed this album. It is a great combination of hip hop and soul!
Miriam Makeba
4/5
Her voice is so rich and emotional. I really enjoyed the album, even though it is far outside my normal jam. Her version of House of the Rising Sun was haunting.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
This is the sound track of my youth. Not because I was alive when it came out, but because my dad loved rock and roll from the 60s.
I love how the guitars just sing! I had a 6 month period in my 20s where I listened to Led Zeppelin exclusively- it was awesome!
Def Leppard
2/5
"The drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm!" - thank you, Blood Hound Gang!
Mullets- mullets everywhere!
But seriously, I have never jammed an album of Def Leopard's before. haha- butt rock! Glad I listened, but can't say I enjoyed it.
Portishead
5/5
Her voice is mesmerizing. I really enjoyed how We Carry on built up- very rhythmic. I am starting to understand what Trip Hop is... Some of it is a bit TOO experimental for me, but overall, I really enjoyed it.
CHIC
4/5
VERY '70s. chic cheer and le freak are both songs I recognize. They are the quintessential sounds of the '70s.
New York Dolls
3/5
I enjoyed Trash. Ironically, I grew up listening to a lot of punk rock, but I fear I have outgrown this genre.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
5/5
I love Tom Petty. I never got to see him live but would have greatly enjoyed his show.
Frank Sinatra
4/5
His voice is like butter. So much sorrow, so much love, so much longing. Good listen, but I don't think I would repeat.
The Smiths
3/5
Girlfriend in a Coma is a weird song! I can think of a few people I would send Unhappy Birthday to. lol
Public Enemy
3/5
I really like rap you can understand. I recognized Flavor Flav and didn't realize he was from Public Enemy. This might be the first time I have ever heard Public Enemy. Some of the sounds are getting pretty annoying.
Skepta
5/5
This hits hard. I enjoy being able to understand the lyrics and none of the beats have annoying sounds being repeated like some of the other rap beats. Surprisingly, I listened to this one twice. I would jam again.
ABBA
5/5
Abba= classic. I really enjoyed the Broadway musical they made with their music. Dancing Queen. Money, Money, Money. Fernando. Need I say more?
Van Morrison
5/5
This album took me a few days to work my way through, but every time I came back to it, I really enjoyed it! Even though it is live, the quality is outstanding. I recognized Gloria and Caravan.
Björk
2/5
Very disjointed sounds. I see the emotions she is portraying, but her style isn't for me. Very creative but too me it is too wierd.
LTJ Bukem
3/5
Long album, but I finally made it through. Great for working to, but otherwise didn't really keep my attention.
John Lennon
5/5
He whistles! Great album I had never jammed in holistically before. What a shame we lost him so young.
Einstürzende Neubauten
1/5
This album was hard to listen to, I am not a fan of the industrial sound. I get how revolutionary it was at the time, but yikes!
Butthole Surfers
2/5
This album is wild. The opening song, Sweat Loaf, is immediately attention grabbing and unique. Not what I was expecting. A bit TOO experimental for my taste.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
I like to play Bob Marley for my kids- so C'est la vie! I am not sure I liked this album as much as Exodus. Still, both are a whole vibe and a great way to start the day.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
I grew up listening to this album. I got to see the Stones front row in the late 90s and it was epic.
The Cardigans
4/5
Her voice is so sweet and implies innocence, but then she sings about adult themes creating an eerie but compelling combination making me both want to listen and feel dirty.
I have always loved Lovefool and play it for my kids when it comes on the radio. The music video was so 90s. haha!
Turbonegro
4/5
I enjoyed their sound- I had never heard of this band before so I had no preconceived notions. I enjoyed the punk rock vibes.
Beastie Boys
4/5
The Beastie Boys have such a unique sound. I have never listened to one of their albums before, just what they play on the radio. My preference for rap leans towards what can be understood and this was very enjoyable to jam. The music videos were SO 90s.
Joanna Newsom
5/5
This style makes me wonder what medieval lyricists sounded like and if they just told poetic stories that took a long time to play/recite. I love the harp!!
I am digging her unique style of singing and I want to read the lyrics the next time I listen.
Frank Black
4/5
Very unique sound. I can see jamming this on a regular basis. I definitely hear some of the randomness I associate with the Pixies.
Marvin Gaye
3/5
I love the flute! Very easy listen/ soul music. I had heard of Marvin Gaye but couldn't have told you what type of music he sang. Very soulful, though I don't much care for the religious undertones.
The Allman Brothers Band
5/5
This was my Dad's favorite band. I have gone to countless Allman Brother concerts and know all these songs by heart. Will definitely listen again. I love the singing guitars and the noodling to find the melody.
This album has one of the best recordings of Tied to the Whipping Post. This year, I have felt like I was Tied to the Whipping Post between losing my dad and drama at work and with family. It was therapeutic listening to his favorite band/album.
Chicago
4/5
Banger of an opening song. I loved the brass.
The random noises in Free Form Guitar are kind of annoying until you realize they are all made with a guitar and not a... racecar, or other device. Through that lens, it is very impressive.
The singers voice is very soulful and emotional. I really enjoyed it! haha
Julian Cope
5/5
I enjoyed the rock and roll in Hanging Out and Hung Up on the Line. I also liked If you Loved me At All. Very catchy! The funk undertones are appreciated!
This album has many songs that are compelling and catchy. This is the kind of album that makes me excited about this journey. I had never heard of Julian Cope before.
I would jam this again = 5.
Linkin Park
2/5
This album takes me back to my angsty youth. So many of these songs were played non-stop on the radio. Personally, I am not a fan of the oscillation between screaming and talk/rapping. I used to love this music- now it is too depressing.
U2
4/5
Wow, they are so young! I can't believe how many of these songs I know from the radio. I am familiar with U2, but have never jammed them before. They have so many hits from this album!
New Year's Day was a great song to jam this close to the New Year. I am only off by two days!
The drumming on this album is impressive.
Fats Domino
3/5
It was good- short. Nothing called out to me about it.
Funkadelic
5/5
The guitar in Maggot Brain really drew me in. Impressive! Most of the album was truly impressive, but the fart noises in Wars of Armageddon were surprising (to say the least!) haha! This album gets a 5 simply for the opening track. That guitar is truly amazing!
The Adverts
3/5
Early punk - I can hear the sounds they inspired over the years.
Kraftwerk
3/5
Okay, the Autobahn song made me giggle every time the lyrics came on. "Fun, fun fun, on the Autobahn!" haha.
The random noises at the end, including some wind instrument were unexpected. That is the word- this whole album was unexpected.
Various Artists
5/5
Love, love, love! I recognize a few of these from the radio, but I didn't realize there was full album I could put on each year.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
5/5
I love Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young. They have such a unique sound. I love the harmonizing and themes they sing about are unique and wholesome.
I still struggle with Neil Young's voice. It is so.. whiny!?! Regardless, I would jam this again.
Richard Thompson
4/5
Some of it was pretty catchy. I particularly liked the last song.
Björk
3/5
This album is far less experimental than Vulnicura (which I listened to and rated two days ago), though she has always been willing to take creative risks. Her song writing is excellent at portraying relatable emotions and experiences. Just not my favorite. I want to sing along with the music. I do have to give this album credit for being unique and interesting. I really appreciated the harp in Like Someone in Love.
I have to admit- listening to two Bjork albums in a row has given me a greater appreciation for her work.
Sam Cooke
5/5
Great album! I knew a great number of these songs but didn't know the artist was Sam Cooke.
Baaba Maal
2/5
I never would have listened to anything like this if it weren't for the 1001 album generator. Not my cup of tea, but I enjoyed hearing something wholly different than anything I had ever heard before.
Manic Street Preachers
2/5
None of the songs really caught my attention.
The xx
5/5
I like the simplicity and way the songs are layered and build. I have also always been a sucker for duets. I really liked, I Dare You. Most of the songs were catchy and chill. I liked this album a lot!
Led Zeppelin
4/5
I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin. I have listen to several of their albums, but never this one. Kashmir is a masterpiece.
Isaac Hayes
3/5
I recognized the first song- Fun! The rest were great for background music while I worked. I can't help but think if Chef from South Park when I see Isaac Hayes.
Do Your Thing is banging! Maybe I should watch the movie, Shaft?
Michael Jackson
3/5
I am more familiar with Michael Jackson's music from the 90s. He definitely had an identifiable sound. I love the vibe of Rock with You. He is just so happy!
Very disco, very 70s sound; but decidedly Michael Jackson.
David Bowie
4/5
This was my first Bowie album. I recognized a few of the songs.
Boards of Canada
3/5
Not really my style. Not bad to listen to while writing or working, but didn't really keep my attention.
Kendrick Lamar
5/5
Kendrick hits hard. I really enjoyed several of these songs.
Way too much religion and booze.
After listening to Real, I feel like I have to listen to this album again to understand the whole story.
Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
4/5
Beautiful lyricism and song writing. The music flows well together.
It feels like this album should have been the soundtrack to an obscure 80s movie.
Soundgarden
3/5
I can't see the cover of this album and not hear Blackhole Sun. Such an iconic music video.
His singing style is a bit whiny. I am saddened to find out he succumbed to his battle with depression.
I didn't realize Spoonman was by Soundgarden.
Dinosaur Jr.
1/5
I don't like poo-pooing someone's dreams, but I wish someone had told this guy he can't sing. This was hard to listen to.
Flamin' Groovies
5/5
I really enjoyed their sound. I particularly enjoyed Yesterday's Numbers.
I can hear a lot of country mixed with rock and roll in this album. The Evil Hearted Ada sounds like they are channeling Elvis. The only songs I recognized were covers, but they were pretty jamming. I would listen to them again.
Amy Winehouse
5/5
I love this album. I can not count the number of times I have listened to it. Now I am playing it for my daughter.
Deee-Lite
4/5
This was easy to listen to while I worked. It had a good beat. I recognized Groove Is In the Heart.
Goldfrapp
5/5
This music is mesmerizing. I really enjoyed Human. The unique blend of sounds keeps pulling my attention. I really like it.
Shivkumar Sharma
2/5
I enjoy hearing music from different cultures and it was nice to listen to while I worked. Not my cup of tea.
Sonic Youth
2/5
I grew up listening to a lot of punk and now I find I have outgrown it. The albums I listened to in my youth are great, as they bring back memories of friends and experiences. I never listened to Sonic Youth and find it hard to listen to now. Its not bad, just not for me.
Queen
5/5
I grew up listening to Queens greatest hits, so I recognized Killer Queen and Now I'm Here from this album. It was great hearing some of their lesser known works. They were/are so talented and had such a unique sound. I wish I could have seen them live!
In the Lap of the Gods was awesome! It is so impressive how they layered their voices over and over again to make it sound like they had a whole choir singing along.
The Saints
4/5
I am enjoying the fast beats and songs on this album, which surprises me since I have enjoyed very few punk albums so far in the album generator.
King Crimson
4/5
I can hear how Bad Religion's 21st Century (Digital Boy) was inspired by 21st Century Schizoid Man.
Some of this music was too far off the deep-end and some of it was really great. I really liked the way A Man A City really leaned into the jazz.
Ravi Shankar
4/5
I love how the album started by explaining the sounds and styles of Indian music with a sitar.
A 14 count is crazy, but I love the way he is explaining it all.
Beck
1/5
This album was so slow, sad, and a bit winy at times. It took me multiple days to get through it. Did not enjoy.
The Byrds
4/5
The Byrds have a very distinctive sound. I had to look up what instruments they were playing because the sound is so unique.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
5/5
I love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I haven't jammed a full album before. I really enjoyed Heads Will Roll. Great album. I am fining myself straight vibing to this. I would listen again.
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
3/5
At first their song was a bit off putting, but it really grew on me over time. Talented musicians with a confidence that allowed them to make a very unique sound.
The Afghan Whigs
4/5
I listened to this several times. I can see this music helping many through a tough time.
Nirvana
4/5
This was my favorite Nirvana album. Kurt really can sing. I even enjoyed the Meat Puppets section.
Bee Gees
4/5
I enjoyed Marley Purt Drive. This was not the sound I was expecting from the Bee Gees. Whisper Whisper has a Beatles sound to it. Very folky. Previously, I was only familiar with their 70s sound.
Genesis
4/5
This was very long and had so many different sounds and instruments. I like that it is all one long story. It seems like it could have been made into a musical. I imagine hearing it live was surreal.
Leonard Cohen
5/5
"First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin!" Great start to an album- it set the whole tone!
It feels like these songs would make great soundtracks to a movie. His voice is awesome! I'm Your Man was great. Take this Waltz reminds me of Tom Waits. I really enjoyed it.
His sound has a dark, almost Halloween feel to it. I love his voice!
Nirvana
2/5
I can respect the brilliance of Nirvana without caring much for their music. Growing up in the '90s it was hard not to hear Nirvana everywhere, all the time.
The instruments often sound like they are fighting each other- I guess some people like that?
Alice In Chains
1/5
I am not a fan of grunge. It felt like I was listening to a bunch of whiny addicts.
Leonard Cohen
4/5
Very folks. I miss the time when people could sing politically relevant songs without fear of being canceled. I really enjoyed his songs.
Van Halen
4/5
The OG hair band- inspiring so many flashy hard-rock bands to follow in their footprints. Great guitar solo. I grew up listening to You Really Got Me. Van Halen Rocks!
Michael Jackson
5/5
Michael Jackson had such confidence and style. He was unapologetically and confidently the King of Rock. This was the first album of his I have jammed, but I feel like I have been missing out.
The music video for The Way you Make me Feel made me a little uncomfortable - that that is by todays standards. It felt like he was stalking that women. Dirty Diana was a great song- I don't remember ever eharing it before. Now Man in the Mirror, Bad, and Smooth Criminal are songs I recognize from the radio.
Six hits from one album is impressive!
U2
3/5
I recognized Mysterious Way. U2 is okay. I don't love it, I don't hate it. Very meh for me. There are some real bangers they have done- very talented group. I might be biased by U2 putting their album on every iPhone. I didn't ask for that and every time it played, I was disappointed.
Iggy Pop
4/5
I enjoyed Lush for Life and The passenger. I loved the bluesy feel of Turn Blue. Overall, solid album. I had heard of Iggy Pop but had never jammed him.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
5/5
Very enjoyable. I really liked the odd time signatures. I recognized Take Five- I have heard that many a time. Overall, great album. Will listen again.
It reminded me of Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin which is HIGH praise.
The Beach Boys
4/5
The Beach Boys are so fun. The music is clearly from the '60s and makes me feel nostalgic for those days. Imagine being offended by being called a square. haha!
I have never jammed a whole album by them and really enjoyed all the songs.
Steely Dan
3/5
Very bluesy and they really liked to jam. It was good- easy to work to while I listened. Not a lot caught my attention. I didn't recognize any of the songs, though I had heard of Steely Dan before. Glad I am now familiar with their sound.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
This album goes hard. There are several instances where the Christian imagery and biblical themes are too heavy for my preference.
The White Stripes
4/5
We're Going to be Friends brings back a ton of memories.
Christine and the Queens
3/5
I can feel the French contempt when she sings Damn (what must a woman do). Great jam! Her voice is so pure. Very enjoyable.
The Electric Prunes
3/5
Fun, short album. I enjoyed the piano.
David Bowie
3/5
I am really digging the harmonica! I rewound it to listen to the songs with lyrics- he sounds so lonely in Be My Wife!
The instrumentals were good for working to, but nothing really called to me on this album.
Girls Against Boys
2/5
Very dark- Satin Down keeps hoping, "You don't have a good time." I think this band is too hard-core for my taste.
I did like the way the singer would use almost a whispered voice and then build sometimes to shouting. It really helped build the song and emotion.
Goldfrapp
3/5
I really liked Happiness! Does she ever wear pants?
Her voice is very airy and has a spiritual effect on the music.
Eagles
5/5
So many hits on this album. Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane, Take it Easy, Witchy Woman. Funk #49. This is an album I listened to growing up. My dad called it traveling music and we would jam it on road trips.
System Of A Down
5/5
This album came out when I was in High School and I had so much anger. I loved it. I don't think I bought it, but I borrowed it from a friend and knew every lyric.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
3/5
Very catchy and upbeat. I enjoy hearing music from different cultures and languages.
Eagles
4/5
I grew up with the Eagles. I love Witchy Woman and Peaceful Easy Feeling. Both songs remind me of my dad. I believe he has a "Best of Album" by them, because most of the other songs on this album I had never heard before.
Sarah Vaughan
5/5
This album is fabulous. The recording quality is excellent even though it is recorded live. her voice is like butter and the accompaniments add to the performance perfectly.
The Verve
3/5
Bitter Sweet Symphony is excellent. I am surprised I had never hear of The Verve. The rest of the album was okay. The sound is very relaxed and mellow. The singer has almost a mesmerizing sound.
Supergrass
5/5
I like the energy. Exactly what I needed today. It has a nice punk sound but also enough pop to allow you to sing along. I recognized Alright-I had no idea it was by Supergrass. Strange Ones was a cool song. I would listen to that one again.
Beatles
5/5
Decided to listen to this while doing my taxes. lol
I was raised on the Beatles but I don't remember this album as much as others. I do recognize some of the songs: Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine (I watched this movie a number of times!), Got to Get You Into My Life.
I enjoyed hearing some new (to me) Beatles.
The Black Keys
4/5
I really enjoyed the bluesy feel of this album. I recognized Howlin' for You- great song.
2/5
The first few songs had me wondering how I would ever make it through the album. Then there were a few good songs I recognized from my youth (My Way, Rollin', Take a Look Around).
It definitely feels like they think saying the F-word makes them edgy or important. Parts of this album are embarrassing and I am surprised it made this list.
Why does it have to be so long?
3/5
enjoyed Oily Water and Miss America. Most of the album was meh.
Louis Prima
5/5
King Louis!
Just a Gigolo was great. I also really liked the Lip! Jump, Jive, an' Wail is awesome too. I can't believe how many of these songs I know without being familiar with Louis Prima.
The jazz was swingin' and the instruments were expertly played. 10/10 but it only goes to a 5!?! Music from the '50s was awesome. This is they kind of album that makes me happy I am on this album adventure.
Genesis
3/5
Very unique and distinguishable sound. Very British. I liked the variety of instruments used.
Jamiroquai
4/5
This is like a combination of jazz and funk. It feels very '70s. I really thought the singer was a chick until I saw the music video.
The image makes me think of the QAnon Shaman from Jan 6th (ugh!).
This album has great energy and I really liked it!
Creedence Clearwater Revival
5/5
My dad called this "Travelin' music" and we would jam this album every road trip. I love Playing in a Travelin' Band, Lookin' Out My Back Door, Up Around the Bend, Who'll Stop the Rain, I Heard it Through the Grapevine. A great combination of blue grass and rock and roll- my dads favorite combo!
Guns N' Roses
4/5
This was my friends father's favorite band. He took his life when she was 12 so it was never fun to listen to, more mournful. This is the first time I am listening to a full album. Lots of classics. His voice is a bit grating.
Robert Wyatt
3/5
Not a very long album- only six songs. The art is fascinating!
This album has a very pensive and apprehensive feel to it.
Alife is super weird but in a really mesmerizing way.
Stereo MC's
4/5
Great beat, easy to understand lyrics. Very enjoyable.
David Bowie
4/5
Golden Years was very catchy!
Harry Nilsson
5/5
Without You hit hard. To follow that up with Coconut? What is this album??
ABBA
3/5
The Day Before You Came really caught my attention.
The purity of the vocals is mesmerizing. I Enjoyed the album.
Miles Davis
3/5
Long album, completely instrumental. It was good to work to, but nothing really caught my attention.
Todd Rundgren
3/5
Weird, but catchy. Seems pretty out there for the times. It is quite clear drugs were involved in the creation of this album.
Portishead
5/5
Most enjoyable. There were several songs I really liked, including Sour Times, Numb, Glory Box. With that many hits, I am sure the rest of the album is worth becoming familiar with. I will definitely jam this one again.
Hüsker Dü
2/5
Nothing stuck out to me about this album. It was pretty long. A few of the songs were rocking and a few were kinda whiny.
Santana
5/5
I grew up jamming this album with my dad. Excellent. We played Santana at his funeral.
The Sabres Of Paradise
2/5
I feel like I am listening to a movie sound track.
Yes
3/5
I recognized Roundabout. Great song.
Ray Charles
4/5
Very enjoyable album. The backup vocals made me think of my grandparents generation. It gave this album a sound that dates it, though I am not complaining. I have know who Ray Charles was my entire life, but never listened to his music. The title of the album is a bit of a misnomer. I would have called this jazz.
Missy Elliott
4/5
It took a few songs for her style to grow on me, but I found myself enjoying it. I recognized Work It and enjoyed it much more as a full grown women than I did as a child. I also enjoyed Gossip Folks, Pussycat, and Nothing out There for Me. So many talented collaborations!!
Elton John
5/5
A ton of great songs. Elton is a legend for a reason. Many I had heard before and others it was my first taste.
Screw You is a song I can see sending to people who need to hear it. lol
Tom Waits
4/5
I don't know how he didn't ruin his voice with vocal fry. Overall, a very enjoyable album, though it was hard to listen to while doing other things. I can see this being a good one on a road trip.
Nas
2/5
Halftime is the epitamy of 90s hip hop rap. It is hard to believe how young he was when he wrote this.
One Love is something I have heard many felons say- I had no idea it originated with Nas.
Not really my style of music, but I can see how influential it was.
LL Cool J
2/5
Milky Cereal was enjoyable. lol
It is crazy I have never listened to LL Cool J, but I have been so familiar with him through his acting. Overall, his music isn't my style, but I can appreciate his talent.
Hole
4/5
Jamming, but not a lot stuck out to me. I have heard Celebrity Skin on countless soundtracks.
OutKast
5/5
This is such a throw back to my high school days. Not really my favorite style any more, but I am definitely enjoying it. I am sitting at work bopping my head like Michael Bolton in Office Space. haha!
Kim and Cookie?! OMG! I can relate so hard to that!
B.O.B is amazing!
The longer I listened to this album, the more I liked it!
Tears For Fears
4/5
Shout- such a fun song and the music video is so 80s. Those kids are all probably older than I am. lol
I love, Everybody want to Rule the World. For such a short album, there are some real classics on it. I had never heard of Tears for Fears before and it is probably because I barely remember the 80s.
The Last Shadow Puppets
5/5
I really enjoyed this style. I didn't recognize any of the songs, but they were all pretty jammin'.
I liked it so much I listened to it twice.
Billy Joel

I knew so many of these songs. Great album!
Dire Straits
5/5
Sultans of Swing. What more is there to say?
Great guitar and catchy beats. Definitely my style.
Ash
3/5
It had some jammin' riffs. Nothing really stuck out to me. Not bad.
Nico
3/5
You can hear the sadness in her voice, yet she still sounds so German.
The feedback on It Was a Pleasure Then was painful.
Most of her music was very poetic. I enjoyed the flute and harp.
Overall, not for me.
ZZ Top
5/5
My dad took me to see ZZ Top live in the late 90s. My dad loved that the only one without a long beard is named Frank Beard. It was an amazing show!
I love the way he laughs in La Grange. Overall, great album.
Pink Floyd
1/5
WTF even is this album? At least they got better over time.
Le Tigre
4/5
Angry girl punk rock. Love it!

Groovin' has been on so many movie sound tracks. Most of this album was so happy and up-beat.
I really enjoyed this album! I am going to find me a place in the sun...
Cream
5/5
Sunshine of Your Love. This is part of the sound track of the 60s. I loved the last song! lol

1/5
This album is psychotic.

Hurt is a classic. Overall the album is a bit more sad than my preference.
I did enjoy the orchestra and piano pieces.

Well, that is an incredible amount of incredible songs.
Kelela
4/5
Beautiful and a very unique sound. I really liked Frontline. I think I listened to it three times.
Elvis Costello
4/5
Appropriately named album. I could feel the angst the whole time. None of the songs really called to me, but I can see why people enjoy Elvis Costello so much.

There are a lot of great songs on this album.
Blood, Sweat & Tears
5/5
Beautiful opening- I love all the instruments.
And When I Die was excellent.
Spinning Wheel is a classic.
What a great album! I will listen again. I am already suggesting my friends jam it.
You've Made Me So Very Happy!
Pink Floyd
5/5
It has been a while since I listened to this album. It was excellent.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
I just realized where Gangster's Paradise was inspired. I also recognized Isn't She lovely.
I have enjoyed this album's themes around the struggles experienced by the lower classes in the USA.
It was a long album, but very enjoyable.
Korn
2/5
This was a tough listen. I used to own this album back in High School when I was full of bad decisions and depression, so I know all the songs. The lyrics did not age well. The teenage angst is tangible. Plus, the album is really long! I remember trying to share this with my mom back in High School and she (rightfully) gave it scorn.
The longer the album went, the more I disliked it.
Minor Threat
4/5
Short but sweet. I enjoyed the energy.
The Mamas & The Papas
4/5
Monday, Monday. I feel this one in my soul.
I love the harmonizing in Got a Feelin, though the lyrics are rather simplistic. There are a ton of great songs on this album.
Pink Floyd
5/5
Amazing album. This is why Pink Floyd is a household name. This is my favorite of the Pink Floyd albums so far (The Dark Side of the Moon and The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn). I already want to listen to it again- so I did.

4/5
I enjoyed this album. It was great to listen to while I worked.
Elvis Presley
4/5
There is a reason he was called The King!
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
Long album, but bangin. There were a lot of religious overtones I am not a fan of. I can see jamming this again. I see why it was nominated for so many Grammys!
Van Morrison
4/5
Great album! I really enjoyed Moondance, Crazy Love, Caravan. I have no problem imagining this guy as a panty dropper back in the day.
Incubus
3/5
Whenever the hit from this album, Drive, comes on the radio- I change it. He just feels really whiney.
Pardon Me is a solid song. I still listen to this one when it comes on the radio and it now qualifies as Classic Rock.
Bebel Gilberto
3/5
Very calming and easy to listen to. Not a lot called out to me.
Keith Jarrett
5/5
Absolutely lovely. Breath taking. A joy to listen to.

Richard Hawley
4/5
He has a very rich and wholesome sound. I enjoyed it.
The Cure
3/5
This album really met my needs today, given I feel like a ball of defeated anxiety. I also got to tell people I was listening to Pornography, which was itself a huge bonus.
As for The Cure, there are other albums of theirs I hope come up on the list.
Adam & The Ants
3/5
This guy is insane. I really enjoyed Kings of the Wild Frontier. There are significant differences between the albums released in the UK vs US.
Physical (You're So): the OG was fun to hear.

Overall, very enjoyable album.
Tori Amos
4/5
I really enjoyed Happy Phantom. Her voice is so pure.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse

There are a lot of themes in this album that are rather cringe.
Arrested Development
4/5
I am really enjoying this album. This is my favorite type of rap- where you can clearly understand what they are saying and there is a hook you can sing along to.
A little too religious for my taste, but overall, I really enjoy the themes.
Hookworms
3/5
Catchy and has a good beat. I really liked Static Resistance. The album over all is well composed... beautiful. You can tell they understood how to put music together.
I wrote the above and then Boxing Day just ends... weird.
Nick Drake
3/5
This album reminded me of sitting in a pretentious coffee shop late at night. very calming sound. I loved all the instruments.
Overall, really easy to listen to, but nothing caught my attention. Just really pretty background music.

I love the mix of the organ and the guitar!
Overall, very interesting album and great to work to. \

I played this album so much back in the 90s. I definitely thought I was CrazySexyCool even though was a preteen. It holds up well. I almost have the whole rap from Waterfalls still memorized. lol
The Residents
3/5
This is some absolutely insane music. I can't wait to send the Birthday Boy to my brother at the appropriate time. Weird doesn't cover it, but I am glad I listened to it before I die.
The Temptations
4/5
I love the funk and variety of voices.
When I hear I Heard it Through the Grapevine I can't help but see the animated dancing grapes from the commercial in the '80s.
Duran Duran
4/5
I listened to this album a few times as I worked. It has some good songs on it. I would argue this is a defining album of the 1980s.
Van Morrison
4/5
I enjoyed this album, but not as much as Moondance. Sweet Thing was very good.
