Popular Reviews

Roxy Music by Roxy Music

i am a massive roxy music fan so this was always going to get a high rating. it's kind of funny though because i really dislike virginia plain, i think the rest of the album is much better. ladytron and 2HB have some gorgeous keyboard work going on, i think my favourite on here is if there is something, i absolutely love the sax. great album, i am surprised avalon isn't in this list...

Blunderbuss by Jack White

i already didn't like the white stripes and this is just everything i dislike about them magnified.

Fromohio by fIREHOSE

i loved the bass on here, this is exactly my taste so it was great to hear, cool stuff

Metal Box by Public Image Ltd.

can’t stand john lydon but my god this album just has everything going for it, love love love the bass

1984 by Van Halen

whitest album of all time. jump is fun, the rest i don't particularly care for

Document by R.E.M.
Jan 19 2026

nice bass lines

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Jan 20 2026

it’s a fine album, i’m sure if you’re into this kind of thing you’ll appreciate it more, but i’m unfortunately not. i did like add it up but after that everything merged into one

Back In Black by AC/DC
Jan 21 2026

at least the riffs aren't bad. it's a shame that the rest is. not really sure i'd consider this album a MUST listen to before i die, the title track is fine but i'm not sure the rest is worth listening to honestly

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Jan 22 2026

short album but really sweet. i'm a big fan of neil's voice, especially loved round & round. have never been big on country type stuff but this got me somewhere deep down

Low by David Bowie
Jan 23 2026

i think this is great... i really like the instrumentals i think they're really really interesting, it does make the second half feel a bit weaker to me but it doesn't matter all that much. also i'm a big fan of kraftwerk so i love hearing the influences here BLUE BLUE ELECTRIC BLUE 🔥🔥🔥

Bossanova by Pixies
Jan 24 2026

velouria and all over the world have made me get the pixies. i've never been able to get into them much but i used to be really into bands like the smashing pumpkins so this album did appeal to that deep down part of my brain. big fan, think i will be listening a lot in the coming days/weeks

Oar by Alexander 'Skip' Spence
Jan 25 2026
Timeless by Goldie
Jan 26 2026

very cool, easy to get lost in which i really liked. inner city life is great

That's The Way Of The World by Earth, Wind & Fire
Jan 27 2026

lost me a little bit in the middle but shining star is GREAT and even when it drops off a bit it isn't bad by any means. good album

Music From Big Pink by The Band
Jan 28 2026

i don't really remember a lot of the middle but i didn't hate it. probably not an album i'll be putting on a lot but there's some good stuff here... also i recommend the siouxsie and the banshees cover of this wheel's on fire, it's pretty good

Kilimanjaro by The Teardrop Explodes
Jan 29 2026

this was a revisit for me and i had sort of forgotten how long the second half of this album feels, although thief of baghdad is a standout for me. i do really like this album though despite that. i think it has a really unique sound to it, the guitars are great. and although i'm not the biggest fan of julian cope, i do actually like his voice for the most part. enjoyed a lot

Kings Of The Wild Frontier by Adam & The Ants
Jan 30 2026

i feel quite bad now for actually not minding this lmao. i am not particularly fond of adam ant's voice but i do find that it works on some songs (dog eat dog, feed me to the lions, etc). i absolutely love the instruments here, i think they do save the album a bit. i'm quite ashamed of the fact this was the best selling album of 1981 here... there's so much better from that year...

First Band On The Moon by The Cardigans
Feb 01 2026

really loved this one!!! very sweet but also very melancholy, all around a great album

Rhythm Nation 1814 by Janet Jackson
Feb 02 2026

very impressed by this one, janet has a gorgeous voice

Feb 03 2026

shocked this album came out in 1972, sounds way ahead of its time and the extended jamming parts on here are amazing. would never have thought to listen to this without it being generated but i'm really glad i did.

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Feb 04 2026

a fun album, thought a lot of the samples here were very cool

Heartattack And Vine by Tom Waits
Feb 05 2026

just really didn’t like this one, i can’t even really put into words why, guess i just don’t like tom waits’ voice here that much… although i did like the sheer anguish you can hear come through at times. also feel the need to highlight that a few hours after i listened to this, a friend of mine messaged me to ask if i was alright because he was “bedazzled” to see me listening to this. sorry tom waits i’m sure your other stuff is good.

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Feb 07 2026

cool in so many ways

Sail Away by Randy Newman
Feb 08 2026

i mean it was fine, felt quite nostalgic in a way? doesn’t really mean it was good though.

Ragged Glory by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Feb 09 2026

thought this was awesome. need to get on the neil grind more

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
Feb 10 2026

not amazing, not terrible. i do like how many different inspirations you can hear on here but this also didn’t exactly blow me away

Closer by Joy Division
Feb 12 2026

i cannot express how much both this and unknown pleasures mean to me. this album is very haunting in a way, when it comes to tracks like isolation and the eternal i feel like you can hear how truly troubled ian was. and i think decades is absolutely brilliant, it has such a hopeless tone to it. i love the synths here and i do really wonder what they could have done if they had the chance to make a third album.

Feb 13 2026

actually not that bad for the most part, although a fair few songs feel like a "how similar can i sound to chris martin" contest

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Feb 17 2026
Want Two by Rufus Wainwright
Feb 19 2026

have to retype this since the website keeps lagging… i thought this was alright honestly. does go on slightly too long but i do think rufus has quite an interesting voice. just maybe not being used quite as well as it could be here. not bad at all in my opinion though 😆

Very by Pet Shop Boys
Feb 20 2026

great, i’ve only ever been a casual fan of PSB but i loved this. can you forgive her is such a tune

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Feb 21 2026

me and my friend were harassed in a record shop a few days ago, the owner was absolutely insistent that we buy this. i mean it's a good album but maybe not THAT good

Metal Box by Public Image Ltd.
Feb 23 2026

can’t stand john lydon but my god this album just has everything going for it, love love love the bass

Feb 24 2026

i loved this album a lot when i was like 14, i think it’s maybe not as good as i thought it was. but i do still like it

Space Ritual by Hawkwind
Feb 25 2026

i’m not QUITE sure this needed to be 2hrs long. i liked some of the guitar stuff going on but i did check out about 1hr 20mins in unfortunately

Bummed by Happy Mondays
Feb 26 2026

this album is one of the most ridiculous things i have ever heard in my life but i loved every single second of it. i am surprised the happy mondays have any living members

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Feb 27 2026

i love this album so much, i can’t believe how many hits it has. the drugs don’t work is one of my favourite songs ever and it’s one i listen to a lot when i’m down. brilliant album and i had my shazam out the entire time

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Mar 01 2026

gorgeous...

Idlewild by Everything But The Girl
Mar 02 2026

really enjoyed, good mix of soul influences / new wave

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Mar 03 2026

probably more like a 3.5, i wasn't massive on beggars banquet when we rolled it, but i quite liked this one - has a bit more going on.

Eternally Yours by The Saints
Mar 04 2026

had never even heard of the saints until now, wow i've been missing something great. loved this

Henry's Dream by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Mar 05 2026

i highly doubt i would have given this such a high score, but i'd been dealing with a lot of shit during the course of listening to the album so it seriously hit me hard. loom of the land is beautiful, i loved this album a lot

Blood And Chocolate by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Mar 08 2026

surprised this one has such a low average rating, i really liked it?? i want you was definitely the standout track but i didn't really think it was that bad

Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes
Mar 11 2026

please shut up. don’t make me listen to this again.

Mar 12 2026

quite cool modern synth stuff, doesn't quite live up to my favourites in the genre but for what it is, it's good

Queen Of Denmark by John Grant
Mar 13 2026

i described this guy to my friend as, “a bad jeff buckley impersonator who wrote his lyrics by flipping to random pages in the dictionary”. i liked it to begin with and then felt like it wasn’t even worth listening to around 30 mins in

Black Monk Time by The Monks
Mar 15 2026

pretty cool considering the time it came out, but not my fave

Mar 16 2026

i really like simple minds (although i prefer their earlier stuff), this was a very good listen. great use of synths without sounding too dated

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
Mar 17 2026

some cool instrumental stuff, only knew the title track prior but this was a chill listen. slightly stale towards the end? but still different enough for me to maintain my interest

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Mar 18 2026

i loved this so so much, it's like a warm blanket on a cold day. absolutely beautiful album, almost cried listening to be honest.

Suicide by Suicide
Mar 19 2026

AMAZING stuff!!! i've had suicide on my radar for a while, loved the atmosphere on here

Picture Book by Simply Red
Mar 20 2026

mick hucknall's voice is extremely grating to me, i like this kind of music a lot but this didn't do anything for me. one or two songs i thought were pretty good, not exceptional though

Mar 22 2026

i actually unironically really love this album. it's hilarious, but i also think it's got a really interesting mix of early rave ideas / traditional guitars or drums and the like. i think there are few out there who can compare to shawn ryder's absolute gift for lyrics.

Live At Leeds by The Who
Mar 23 2026

3.5, i'm not really a fan of the who but i thought this was recorded/produced really well, some cool medleys on here too

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top
Mar 24 2026

repetitive but not bad. hot, blue, and righteous was the standout for me. i think this album works better as background noise...

Movies by Holger Czukay
Mar 27 2026

very funky, really liked this one

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Mar 28 2026

ourrrr house is a very very very fine house some great folky stuff here

Fromohio by fIREHOSE
Mar 29 2026

i loved the bass on here, this is exactly my taste so it was great to hear, cool stuff

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
Mar 31 2026

the velvet underground were one of the first bands i got into as a teenager, it's incredible how modern some of their stuff still sounds, pale blue eyes is also one of my favourite songs of all time, such a good love song. "the first Velvet Underground album only sold 10,000 copies, but everyone who bought it formed a band." - brian eno

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Apr 01 2026

third rolling stones album pulled... i like gimme shelter but i don't think the rest of the album lives up to it, still a fine listen though.

Chris by Christine and the Queens
Apr 03 2026

i listened to just the french version instead of both the english and the french, some cool pop stuff here but was kind of just too conventional for me to rate any higher

Guero by Beck
Apr 04 2026

3.5, felt a bit all over the place at times but i thought it started off really strong, maybe this is just a grower.

Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper
Apr 05 2026

i do quite like glam stuff but i've never been able to get behind alice cooper unfortunately. i like a lot of the instruments here but i can't see myself listening to this besides at a halloween party or something

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Apr 06 2026

am i old??? i actually really liked this, although i like most kinds of soft rock so maybe i'm just easily pleased

My Generation by The Who
Apr 07 2026

wasn't big on live at leeds when we pulled it, but i quite liked this. blended together a little bit for me but i did really like the ox +out in the street

Joan Armatrading by Joan Armatrading
Apr 08 2026

had never heard of joan until now, she has such a powerful voice, not sure how much she directly inspired the later female soul sound but you can definitely hear it. very nice stuff

Third by Soft Machine
Apr 09 2026

i don't have a problem with longer songs, i quite like the buildup in them, but nothing on here besides moon in june really piqued my interest. i'm not opposed to doing this one again sometime, i think with time it'd grow on me

Another Green World by Brian Eno
Apr 10 2026

i might actually be in love with brian eno what an incredible album this was

Endtroducing..... by DJ Shadow
Apr 11 2026

probably a 3.5 but i did think that the fact nearly this entire album is just record samples is extremely cool so i've bumped it up

Kenya by Machito
Apr 13 2026

i love bongos

The Fat Of The Land by The Prodigy
Apr 14 2026

sorry but i'm british i have no choice but to give this five stars it's my duty

Apr 15 2026

listened to this half asleep and honestly i think that made me like it way way more, great album to chill to. also lol @ all the reviews thirsting over his voice

Apr 17 2026

boring and bland metal, i liked hollow but the rest did absolutely nothing for me

LP1 by FKA twigs
Apr 19 2026

i don't really know a lot about fka twigs. but what i hear from this i like, but it feels underdeveloped at times- i'm sure that her later output improves on this more. but this has a nice sound to it

Venus Luxure No. 1 Baby by Girls Against Boys
Apr 20 2026

very shocked at all the low reviews on here. yes there's better hardcore bands and better hardcore albums but that doesn't detract from the quality of this album. i thought this was great, i loved the sharp sort of guitars (reminded me of some early post-punk stuff in a way), loved the vocals, honestly i thought this was great all around. i think maybe this should be a 4.5 not a 5 but i'm upping it just because i thought this wasn't going to be anything special at first and was proven wrong. will definitely be listening to this again

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Apr 21 2026

i have unfortunately never bought into the pink floyd hype massively (probably because i haven't listened to them enough) but this is great. listened to the title track a lot years ago, i do really like how varied this album feels but also how consistently good it is

Apr 22 2026

i was always under the impression king crimson were overrated as hell and that i didn't like them. are they overrated??? maybe, depends who you ask. but are they good??? yes they fucking are. this album does a lot and it does it well, i don't really know how else to word it

Winter In America by Gil Scott-Heron
Apr 23 2026

this is great, i love a lot of the keyboards on here but obviously the main focus is the lyrics. really is sad that this was released in 1974 and virtually nothing has changed since then...

Live / Dead by Grateful Dead
Apr 24 2026

don't have much else to say about this other than that it's fine. some nice guitar work in here but doesn't do a whole lot for me

GORGEOUS album, incredibly well written stuff, and i thought thom's feature on this mess we're in worked so well with her voice. cannot wait to relisten sometime

Fever Ray by Fever Ray
Apr 27 2026

i just can't get behind the vocals here. i like a lot of the synth work but vocally i just really dislike it. i get the appeal but it's not for me personally

Bad by Michael Jackson
Apr 28 2026

3.5. i mean it's michael jackson it's pretty solid stuff all around. maybe a bit dated but i don't really care all that much it's still nowhere near being bad in my opinion

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Apr 30 2026

knew all the big hits on here before listening obviously, but doing this album as a whole is such a whirlwind experience. does feel slightly padded at times imo but it's still good

evermore by Taylor Swift
May 01 2026

just doesn’t do anything for me. i quite liked the song with bon iver but i feel like i really wasn’t missing out having not listened to this before today

Ramones by Ramones
May 02 2026

kind of samey but this album was SO impactful on the punk scene i don't really care.

Punishing Kiss by Ute Lemper
May 03 2026

lol this album has such bad writing but i think it's kinda cool. would i listen to it again??? besides the nick cave song, probably not. but i actually kinda liked this

Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
May 05 2026

beautiful album, easy to get lost in. my favourites were longer boats and most of the end, just a lovely listen

May 06 2026

torn between giving this a 1 or a 2, but i went through this whole album pleading with it to end so i think it's gotta be a 1. i know i'm clouded by not being particularly fond of metal but i hated the scratchy vocals, thought this was very generic, all the works really.

May 07 2026

genuine drivel besides stan. some of the worst written lyrics ever to be penned. i'm not a puritan or anything who hates taboo subjects in music but there's only so many times i can listen to eminem rap about fucking women and ripping apart the gay and mentally disabled. just gets boring.

E.V.O.L. by Sonic Youth
May 08 2026

i never knew sonic youth could sound like this... very nice gothic-esque sound, some awesome experimental stuff too, just loved it and will be listening again very soon

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
May 09 2026

kind of insane? not sure if i mean this as a compliment either, some good stuff here but some REALLY baffling stuff too

You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.
May 10 2026

had only heard their cover of just like heaven prior, but dinosaur jr. are one of my friend's favourite bands so i had high hopes. nice rough guitars which i love, vocal style not my favourite ever but it worked here.

Life's Too Good by The Sugarcubes
May 11 2026

3.5, sorry i docked half a point because i find bjork's vocal style extremely grating. in some ways this reminds me a bit of gang of four, with it being a bit out there and the big focus on drums/guitars. very great first three tracks too. i can see myself coming back to this at some point...

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
May 12 2026

really torn between 4 and 5 stars. this is a beautiful soul album and aretha has such a well-controlled and powerful voice. really isn't anyone like her. also this album starts and finishes on such a high note, it's extremely well rounded.

Devil Without A Cause by Kid Rock
May 13 2026

this may genuinely be the worst album i have ever listened to and i don't have a single good thing to say about it. cowboy was the only song i didn't absolutely despise and i still did not like it

May 14 2026

i like a lot of the orchestral stuff here, greenman is very reminiscent of traditional folk stuff, really appeals to me. i've always felt XTC are a bit too annoying for me to properly love, but maybe not. i am surprised this album in particular is here though, i'm personally fonder of black sea "S-H-I-T, is that how you spell "me" in your dictionary?" - lyrics of the millennium

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
May 15 2026

nothing against norah or this style of jazz, i did like this, but as a lot of the reviews before mine have said this is coffee shop music. not that that alone should count against it but i did feel that this album never quite got anywhere

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
May 16 2026

sorry i cheated and only listened to disc 1. and i did like it, i like ella's voice, more of the songwriting i wasn't fond of. maybe i'll come back one day to do the other discs...

The United States Of America by The United States Of America
May 17 2026

1968 is crazy early to be making things like this. very interesting, feels like something you'd hear in an indie low budget horror movie..

L'Eau Rouge by The Young Gods
May 18 2026

2.32 average rating are you guys for real?? i loved this, strong early NIN / ministry vibes and i love both bands a lot, so i knew i'd like this too. the cabaret aspects are not my favourite things ever in music but the darker vocals really hooked me

1984 by Van Halen
May 19 2026

whitest album of all time. jump is fun, the rest i don't particularly care for

Sheet Music by 10cc
May 20 2026

prior to this, the only song of theirs i'd heard was i'm not in love. was very surprised to hear a less interesting version of sparks when i put this on. i unfortunately don't like sparks and the wall street shuffle was the only song on here i would probably consider listening to again. i absolutely get the appeal here, just isn't for me

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
May 21 2026

amy winehouse you beautiful soul, may you rest in peace. really touching album, you can hear how hard she was fighting to keep it together

Make Yourself by Incubus
May 22 2026

i would probably have loved this album at 14 but i am unfortunately an adult. privilege and when it comes did stand out to me, the rest was typical nu metal which i thought was fine, but nothing particularly incredible

...And Justice For All by Metallica
May 23 2026

liked this one. some great riffs, blackened is a great intro track. and yes i know the story about why the bass is mixed into nonexistence but that doesn't mean i can't miss it.

Ill Communication by Beastie Boys
May 24 2026

great exploration of a lot of genres, i liked paul's boutique when we got it but i like this way more. awesome guitars / awesome funk sound

Roxy Music by Roxy Music
May 25 2026

i am a massive roxy music fan so this was always going to get a high rating. it's kind of funny though because i really dislike virginia plain, i think the rest of the album is much better. ladytron and 2HB have some gorgeous keyboard work going on, i think my favourite on here is if there is something, i absolutely love the sax. great album, i am surprised avalon isn't in this list...

Is This It by The Strokes
May 26 2026

i'm biased i don't care. the strokes were my favourite band as a teenager (i'm saying this like it was eons ago, i'm 18). i absolutely loved this album and i still do. i think the guitar work is brilliant, take it or leave it is my favourite on the album and the opening guitar is partially why, i have fond memories of sitting on a balcony in tenerife listening to this and losing myself in it. i also thought julian was the coolest person ever when i was into them, i loved his voice and his style so much - him now is another story... all in all this was a nice trip down memory lane for me, would have rated it highly even if this was my first time hearing it. this review is dedicated to 14 year old me who, in the words of alex turner, just wanted to be one of the strokes.

Boy In Da Corner by Dizzee Rascal
May 27 2026

definitely not bad i just think he has better stuff

Faith by George Michael
May 28 2026

didn't expect to like this as much as i did. very stereotypically 80s, but i liked it. look at your hands was my favourite, something about the lyrics really did resonate with me

New Boots And Panties by Ian Dury
May 29 2026

i have had an irrational hatred for ian dury for most of my life and i genuinely could not tell you why. i liked aspects of this, like the first couple of songs and the bass on if i was with a woman, but taking the album as a whole i wasn't really able to get behind it

Dookie by Green Day
May 30 2026

fine. never been a massive green day fan but this was a decent listen

90 by 808 State
May 31 2026

sick stuff, very dancey. 808 state had been on my radar for a while so this was perfect timing

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Jun 01 2026

this is actually one of the only radiohead albums i HADN'T listened to in full. thought the sounds on here were very interesting, first three songs especially. i imagine most of this would be sick live, wish i was around at release for it

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jun 02 2026

don't have a lot to say here, very nice album, reminds me of a lazy summer. good shit

american dream by LCD Soundsystem
Jun 03 2026

i like all the stuff this is clearly inspired by. gang of four, new order, early human league, so on and so forth. this just misses the mark for me. it's not particularly interesting, i didn't mind how do you sleep but i found the rest pretty forgettable.

...The Dandy Warhols Come Down by The Dandy Warhols
Jun 05 2026

reading the reviews before listening to this had me very surprised that the dandy warhols AREN'T british, the amount of britpop comparisons this album gets really fooled me. i actually prefer the less poppy songs on here (orange and i love you worked quite well back to back, in my opinion). some points on this album really feel like stuff by the strokes, which is a strength in my books. liked this a lot honestly it's nowhere near the BEST thing i've ever heard but i liked it for what it is.

Crime Of The Century by Supertramp
Jun 06 2026

this was very good! my best friend has been trying to get me into supertramp for a while and i think this may have done it. some great piano stuff, awesome guitars, yeah i really liked this

Purple Rain by Prince
Jun 07 2026

incredibly produced and flows extremely well, purple rain might be one of the greatest album closers of all time. beautiful beautiful stuff

Atomizer by Big Black
Jun 08 2026

this fucks. i'd been aware of big black for a while but had never listened properly, i thought this had a very unique sound, some extremely cutting bass lines, and steve albini has such a great cynical delivery throughout. great listen and i think the people demeaning it as "just noise" could do with being a bit more open minded.

War by U2
Jun 09 2026

was always under the impression U2 weren't for me. i actually really liked this, really good opening couple of tracks and i'm thankful to have been proven wrong about them...

Basket of Light by Pentangle
Jun 12 2026

amazing album to listen to while at the tavern. ok seriously this was some very nice stuff, i have a soft spot for stuff with this medieval type sound.

Jun 14 2026

intro was really interesting and felt like 6 different songs, i loved the texture of this especially, might use this album as background noise for chilling...

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Jun 16 2026

recognised a lot of stuff here from it being sampled in more modern tracks, this had a very smooth sound to it, very relaxing listen. the more albums i get from here the more great funk stuff i find, it's great

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
Jun 19 2026

not the best thing radiohead have made but i am fond of this. myxomatosis especially but i do really like the blend of their earlier rock roots with more experimental stuff akin to amnesiac. good stuff

Porcupine by Echo And The Bunnymen
Jun 21 2026

my tastes are clearly not as refined as most of this website. i'm a pretty big fan of the bunnymen, saw them a couple months ago, and i think this is probably their most consistently solid album (ocean rain is good, but has lower lows for me). this is a great mix of artsy synthpop and more gothic ideas, particularly on the title track / my white devil. the latter half is admittedly not as strong but has a lot of interesting stuff, in bluer skies and fuel especially have some nice use of less typical instruments. i was torn between a 4 and a 5, only going so high because i think the other two albums of theirs in this list are weaker in comparison.

Rum Sodomy & The Lash by The Pogues
Jun 22 2026

like this album more for its storytelling than anything. i'm a man you don't meet every day was the highlight here, liked the rest but it wasn't as unique to me...

Jun 23 2026

our group got both pogues albums in here back to back. i definitely prefer this to rum sodomy and the lash, definitely more polished but still has that rough tinge from the first album that i really like. thousands are sailing was far and away my favourite, fairytale of new york is a classic too and i'd like it a lot more if i didn't hear it 800 times a day every december

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure
Jun 27 2026

i grew up listening to the cure so i could never give this a bad ranking. play for today has been a favourite of mine for as long as i can remember, the title track has the classic dulled misery i love about the cure, i think this album is a great prototype of what their sound would evolve into in years to come. this isn't my favourite cure album, it's actually my least favourite of the three in here, but i think it has a brilliant melancholy sound that still holds up, and it was the main album that accompanied me through a major depressive spell so i really owe a lot to it. thank you robert smith you legend

Goo by Sonic Youth
Jun 29 2026

yes it's unconventional it's GOOD guys i swear. mote and cinderella's big score really impressed me with their guitars. obviously knew the big two before this but this is one of those albums where i haven't stopped thinking about it since i listened. giving this a 5 because i gave EVOL a 5 and i'd feel bad ranking it lower. would probably have given it one anyway. just has so much going on but doesn't feel like a slog to listen to unlike a lot of albums that try the same thing.

Blunderbuss by Jack White
Jun 30 2026

i already didn't like the white stripes and this is just everything i dislike about them magnified.

1999 by Prince
Jul 01 2026

brilliant first couple open tracks, also love those really poppy synths throughout, they're so 80s and it's great

Headquarters by The Monkees
Jul 03 2026

fine... nothing particularly special but fine

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar
Jul 06 2026

i had a very long review typed out and it all got deleted. what i really like about this album is the way that the themes of this album; race, poverty, gang violence, etc, are all presented in such a raw and real way that you have to face it head on. i think maybe this is what makes a lot of the reviewers here dislike it - these themes are very tied to a black perspective and it's easier to say that this "isn't music" rather than deal with the subjects at hand. all of this aside this album is brilliant and i definitely appreciate it a lot more now than i do when i last listened to it at 13 or so.

Pearl by Janis Joplin

Jul 10 2026

i saw the zutons last year opening for richard ashcroft and they played zuton fever three fucking times so i had kind of written them off already. i was however pretty impressed with this album, i don’t even think it’s particularly unique it’s just that it’s something i would actually listen to

Synchronicity by The Police
Jul 11 2026

great album from a band i’ve never properly explored. really nice funk sound to it

Our Aim Is To Satisfy by Red Snapper
Jul 12 2026

started off fairly interesting and rapidly got worse. i really like this kind of music so it’s a little bit of a shame this didn’t hook me

Play by Moby
Jul 13 2026

the way people talk about this album i would have thought this was the most revolutionary album to ever exist. not bad just not as good as i thought

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Jul 14 2026

very nice one!! listened after an 8 hour flight home and it was quite soothing actually, good to fall asleep to but not because it was boring or anything

Ogden's Nut Gone Flake by Small Faces
Jul 15 2026

did really like the first half of the album, very nice psychedelic stuff. i agree it gets very monty python esque towards the end, and it’s a shame because i love monty python, i just don’t think this style of songwriting and especially singing style works very well in this kind of song

Triangle by The Beau Brummels
Jul 16 2026
Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Jul 17 2026

honestly a little bit pretentious, “i’m not like the normies” type of thing. which means i would have loved it as a teenager and maybe if i didn’t know anything about win butler i’d like it today as well

Jul 18 2026

woww this is good. this is something i would have LOVED to hear growing up, when i was more angsty, it’s a shame i didn’t. courtney has a really interesting voice that lends itself well to a louder and angrier tone you usually see in grunge, she’s also a great songwriter. no matter what you think of her i think this album can (and SHOULD) be appreciated for the sound and the influence on later riot grrl stuff

Scum by Napalm Death
Jul 19 2026

unfortunately for napalm death one of my favourite parts of a song is how an artist can tell a story through their lyrics. as i can’t hear a fucking word of this their lyrics could be the greatest thing ever put to paper but i wouldn’t know. i do actually like the grindcore style of heavy guitars and rapid drums, it’s just that i would never put this on without having to do so for this challenge, while some parts do appeal to me the majority does not.

The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers
Jul 20 2026

one of my favourite albums of all time. i think richey was a brilliant songwriter and it shows here so much - 4st 7lb is my favourite song of theirs for this exact reason, it is beautifully written despite the topic at hand. i have a lot of thoughts about this album but having to put them down in words here i’m a little bit lost as to what to say. brilliant album and when i heard this is yesterday live i cried because it was so surreal to hear anything from this.

Tellin’ Stories by The Charlatans
Jul 24 2026

i’ve been meaning to check out the charlatans since FOREVER… very nice first exposure, i like how area 51 and rob’s theme lean more into an electronic / trip hop kind of sound, sure it’s not groundbreaking for the genre or anything but i don’t really care i still like it. plus i love primal scream so them getting their keyboardist in for this album did a fair bit to form my opinion on it

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Jul 25 2026

what an insane debut album. robert plant’s vocal style has never really clicked with me but it doesn’t matter so much when everyone else in the band is putting 110% into their performances. gorgeous guitar here especially

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Jul 26 2026
Dry by PJ Harvey
Jul 27 2026

i liked stories from the city, stories from the sea more when we got it. but this is an incredibly tight record and does a lot of really interesting stuff, i especially liked plants and rags for the contrast it brought in

Jul 29 2026

not going to lie i’ve never been big on the title track, i liked love is a stranger before this and i like most of this (the walk, i could give you a mirror, etc). then i heard monkey monkey and lost a LOT of respect for this all at once. still plenty to like on here but that was a very big blow to my opinion on it

Life Thru A Lens by Robbie Williams
Jul 31 2026

i genuinely cannot tell you how sick i am of this album. this will REALLY date me but my mum was absolutely head over heels for robbie williams when this album came out and as a result i've heard this album approximately 1 million times. i do quite like angels but i really do not care for the rest of this at all

For Your Pleasure by Roxy Music
Aug 02 2026

a more sinister side of bryan ferry's vocals, a crooning sax, this is great through and through. all roxy is great in my books but the eno stuff really has its own character that is hard to not like

Aug 04 2026

i always assumed reviews of this album were massively exaggerating how good this was. turns out it's actually incredibly good. wasn't massive on the skits but i do understand the intent behind them. lauryn's got such a great vocal range and i think the first half of this album is really stacked - great listen.

High Violet by The National
Aug 05 2026

i feel like most of this album was written by pressing the middle word when typing on an iphone. not bad just dull. terrible love i quite liked but the rest is indistinguishable from each other. unrelated to this but i actually almost saw the national at a festival in 2022 but decided their name was too boring to interest me. maybe a good decision in hindsight?

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Aug 08 2026

knew a lot on here already but it just works brilliantly in sequence. john really stands out as a songwriter here, in my life is gorgeous... would be a 4.5 if that was an option. only because i prefer some other beatles albums in here
