Sounds really raw and real but not in a good way. It’s like the production was done in a garage with a.m single mic. The sound of the record is horrible. Every single song sounds similar. The drums are flat and are just a bouncing rhythm section. His voice is overwhelming.

One of the best blues album of all time. Duane Allmans slide guitar work is on full display. The juxtaposition between the British Invasion sound and southern blues is great. The overall sound and feel of the record is incredible. One of the best albums of all time.

Never really liked punk music and this one is no different. It’s a lot groovier than most punk music however and has an undeniable hook in it. It’s pretty impressive that a group of black musicians from DC in the 80s transcended racial boundaries and created a sound like this.

Was introduced to the Eels in high school by a friend from church and became an instant fan. I would listen to him almost religiously for years. Solid musician. Solid album. It was such a dramatic change from the grunge and nü metal sounds of the time that it was refreshing. Absolutely love this album, and listening to it for the first time in years turned that nostalgia meter to 100.

Not his best album in his discography, but is an absolute masterpiece of 2000s era shock rap. No one can do it like Eminem, period. The dude stood on the shoulders of giants and became bigger, but never shunned his roots or those who came before him. How wordplay, his dizzying deliveries, his ability to leave you speechless or in stitches is fully on display with this album. This album started his turn from being lauded for his humorous rap songs to developing that razor edge tongue that lends credence to his mature songs.

I love Gillian Welch. This isn’t my favorite album of hers, and don’t think it showcases her raw emotional vulnerability in her songwriting like later albums do, but this is still a beautiful addition to her discography.

Growing up, I was a huge fan of Metallica and would listen to them almost religiously. However, now that I’m in my 40s and going back and listening to this album, I realized that it’s just not good. Lars drumming is abysmal, the songs are 5 minutes too long, the overall feel of the album is just bleh. They’re absolutely one of the fathers of modern American metal, but this album, just doesn’t do it for me anymore.
