Reviews (page 9 of 9)

Repetitive but nice. First track really sets the tone mega bop. The samba(?) guitar throughout goes crazy

Absolutely fantastic!

I love Bossa Nova, but this album is some kind of Frank Sinatra sings his English/American versions of classic Bossa Nova songs. I'm not really feeling it. Also, I have always preferred the Brazilian version of The Girl From Ipanema, and if you ask nicely I can sing some of it to you in Portuguese. It gets one star and that is only because of Jobim.

Big time old school club feelz

Smooth and silky, a true Sinatra Gem. This album has a touch of bossa nova mixed with his talented vocals.

Obra maestra.

Great easy listening, something I wouldn’t usually listen to but enjoyed.

Yeah, this smoooooooth. I like both Sinatra and Jobim, but I'm not a huge buff of either, and never heard their collaborative material before. It's bossa nova filtered through the big band tradition, as you might expect. Silky smooth and understated orchestra, with Jobim's gossamer guitar and Sinatra in his effortless lounge mood. The whole thing is chilled and quiet to the point of somnolent. But it's a thing of beauty. Ten tracks in under thirty mins too, which works perfectly for this style. One or two tracks aren't true perfection, so it's 4.5 from me. If you haven't heard this before you die, play it at your funeral.

Favourite Song: The Girl from Ipanema

Sounds like Mad Men waiting room muzak. Not my bag.

Like being in an endless lift.

Another boring one-note album. Best track: The Girl from Ipanema

Frankie is always pleasant, but he just doesn't seem as comfortable trying to adapt his style to bossa nova and it comes off as a little forced/trend-hoppy. He's smooth as butter, but butter doesn't go on everything.

An inoffensive 28 minutes of Frank Sinatra's dulcet tones with a South American twist. Cool album cover.

he did have a lovely voice. not for me thought. not even the dodgy gangster connections could make him listenable.

Listenable Sinatra due to the latin vibe

Girl from ipanema is one of my favorite songs of all time but Frank’s version is not tops. If this played any day aside from Sunday, it prob would have gotten a 2

Not for me.

Love all of his music

Highlight is Girl from Ipanema. Otherwise just mostly relaxing and doesn't stand out to me. Don't care to listen to again.

- pleasant but....

Tedious, even by old crooner standards. It's harmless, but it does nothing I don't expect, even on songs I haven't heard before. I know exactly what the melody will do, what word rhymes will be used, where the tune will go. I assume this wasn't the case upon its release, but it is now. When I hum aimlessly to myself, this is how it sounds.

Welcome change up

I prefer big brass Sinatra, but this is still good.

Didn’t listen but he’s a legend so

Chillaso dandee latino

Croony goodness

goede achtergrond muziek, lekkere vibe

Love of bit of Frankie. The man has such a smooth voice and such a massive hog of a cock. Yes, Frank son. Charming the ladies with your tone and then slamming them with your bone. What an icon.

A delightful blend of Sinatra’s dulcet tones and Jobim’s musicality gives a different flavour to these songs, a number of which I knew from Astrid Gilberto renditions. Very pleasant indeed

Like a limp dick dipped in cold custard.

Lounge. Chill. Croon. Vegas. Mafia. Frank.

Always love a little Frank. This one was an album I had never heard. It was a nice alternative from his typical big band sound, and had a more stripped down “island” sound. My main issue was that a lot of the songs sound the same. Other than that, a fantastic album from the Chairman himself.

Slow and crooning. Something you would put on to impress a date, but not listen to besides that

Monday album - One word Monday = Overrated.

La voz de Sinatra es demasiado pesada para la dulzura que necesita la Bossa Nova. Sorprende un poco que lo consideren imprescindible cuando ninguno de ellos encaja

How pleasant and warm

I enjoyed it a lot, very mellow and a little wistful overall. Will be returning to it.

I mean, great sound. Girl from Ipanema is fantastic as well.

Just beautiful, what else can I say. We grew up with Frankie in the house and it was great listening to a whole album by him and this album is definitely one of his best ones. What can beat The Girl From Ipanema, absolutely nothing? Well maybe Girl from the North Country but, a paisan like Frank Sinatra blows Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan outta da water. "Fughetta Bout it!" -Joseph Klein, Yes this is an original quote by me.

I’ve said it before, but…FINALLY. Frank Sinatra was a huge figure for me growing up. He was the Christmas CD we listed to each year. His greatest hits album was something I have listened to falling asleep from back when I stayed in Plano with my grandparents to a few days ago. My grandpa loved Frank and I do too. I’d been waiting to get an album of his but didn’t expect it to be this one. Pretty wild to name the title of your album the full names of both the performers, it’s a mouthful. I do love the album cover of Frank puffing and recording...that 1967 haze. It was a different time. I honestly don’t know much about Frank as a person but I’ve heard some things so when I say I love him, I mean as a musician. Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars was my favorite from this album but this is a perfect evening listening to album or something when going to sleep or to calm down. I’m always happy to listen to my favorite crooner.

I'm sure Sinatra was just an insufferable asshole in real life, but you can't argue with the hits.

A true artisan, Frank serves up the goods as always

Not much use made out of the collaboration to give it the branding of a Bossa Nova album, but it’s not a bad listen for the background. It simply just doesn’t capture Sinatra at his best or anything remotely Brazilian. For that reason it left an average impression.

This is lovemaking music, pure and simple. Frank and Antonio go well together. I think I prefer Stan Getz and his version of The Girl From Ipanema a bit more. But this is still great.

Tres bon album. Frank sinatr 3st toujorus egal a lui meme mais j’aime beaucoup les arrangements de guitare dans celui-ci. 4

If we are here to judge albums then this one is bad. It has 3 times the same song. Even if it is a nice song... Good music, bad collections of songs... definitely not a concept album.

Mellow vibes. Not bad, but not the Frank that I was expecting

well its frank

Perfect for a romantic dinner!

Waiting room music for the insufferable.

I think I most like the one where he’s actively trying to bang a woman that's dancing with a man she seems to be both in love with and married to.

Not a big fan of the album, i'm really not into crooning. It was nice enough though.

Love this album. I've not listened to Frank Sinatra at length before. But all I want to do is slow shuffle dance with Erica with this in the background. SUPER GOOD

"When 4chan cries, nae nae to me." - Frank Sinatra Great album, great vibe. Sinatra is in my blood, so of course I love this. None of his most classic hits, but clearly going for a specific atmosphere in this pairing with Jobim. I can't say I pulled out a ton of notable tracks, but the whole thing is great. I'd definitely listen to this again. Favorite tracks: The Girl from Ipanema (Amy Winehouse did it better), I Concentrate On You, Meditation. Album art: Love the smoky studio picture. I also love the framing around the picture. It's a really regal album cover, and I also love the use of full names. Great job, fellas. 4/5

Just fine.

Love me some franky

super smooth, and what a picture of its time. i don't love it, but it's a great view into what things must've been like for the squares in 1967.

Not my favorite style from Sinatra but he's still a legend.

I like it. Interesting that this was the start of bossa nova. Sometime we just kind of take for granted as existing music.

I love this album, this is not my first time hearing it, so it's great to revisit it. Frank Sinatra's voice fits bossa nova so perfectly, so I am so grateful that this album even exists. Right from the start we get a classic. This isn't as good as the Gilberto version, but the guitar and horn section of this song give it a much grander feeling. Every song is so smooth, I got a nostalgic and emotional response from so many of these tracks, there's just something about them that hits me. I love the reworks of the American songs into bossa nova style, it works so well that I have a hard time imagining them as anything else. The synergy that Sinatra and Jobim have on these songs is astounding. I can just imagine them in the studio, cigarette smoke in the air, joking around in a manner that reflects the light and relaxed nature of the music. This is probably the smoothest and softest that I, and many others, have heard Sinatra, especially at the time in his career that this was released, I think it was a brave venture for him. I belive this album was very important for getting bossa nova into the American mainstream. I just want to reiterate that I love this album, and I could listen to it over and over again. Favorite Track: Baubles Bangles and Beads

The first few seconds were great, I love Jobim, then Sinatra's stupid voice had to ruin everything

Maybe Frank’s last truly great album?

Not really feeling it, but sounded alright

The vocals are so easy to listen to

sweet, easy, elegant, charming and the first track is all of that ^ x10 ❤️‍🔥

Such a new and exciting sound from Rio de Janeiro.

Dit is zo rustgevend. Puur genieten van de stem en de warme klanken. Frank is een legend

Pretty slow boring music

Is Frank Sinatra cool by modern standards. Like, he is, but what I mean is like, is he problematic. Like by today’s standards should he be canceled? Anyway great album.

I'll never understand Sinatra's popularity...

Frank Sinatra always nice to listen to.

Lounge music to have a cocktail by

It's lovely music, but not something I'd ever really seek out. It fits certain settings where it would be perfect and I'd be glad to be listening. A swanky bar for example.

I love Frank. I love Jobim. I love Bossa Nova. I love 60s orchestral arrangements. Have nostalgic attachment to this one.

If it was possible to make nails on a chalk board sound good, he would have been the one to be able to do it

Classico

This was a nice retro way to while away the morning. Frank's voice is always smooth and easy.

So many classics but also a decent amount of snoozers. This record does sound amazing on my sound system, though.

Meh, too slow for me

These have to be one of the worst lyrics I've heard... and it's booooooooooooooooring and repetitive. Giving 2 stars because I do enjoy the beat sometimes and they might have influenced Jack Johsnon, but that's it.

As expected from both artists, it's a great chill album.

Decent album, does fail to live up to expectations though because there's hardly any influence of Jobim visible

Frank, an absolute classic. My housemates and I listen to this stuff during dinner and it's amazing. The soft intent of these songs make our dining just a little special even when it's just the 5 of us.

One of my favourite Sinatra albums.

smooooooooth bossa nova is a pretty specific mood genre though, so it sounds good and is a classic but it's not something i'd necessarily put on a lot

Not for me

Just a good, consistent album. Sinatra’s voice never disappoints. 8.1/10

Nice vocals but it wasn’t for me tbh

Good but not my style

Besides a couple of the alternate versions of Impanema, it sounds like Ol' Blue Eyes was phoning it in.

Haha wow this is smarmy music

The best album ever. Tanvi also said the same.

Don’t generally like Frank, but this was pretty enjoyable and relaxing.
