Beach House
5/5
This sounds a bit like the moody musical sections of some TV show, where the characters stare into the distance in the rain pondering what they've done. Not that that's a bad thing, really liked it.

Bob Dylan
3/5
Songs too long-winded for my liking. The lyrics are good but not sure I need quite so many verses per song.
Can
2/5
Really not sure about this. A bit too experimental for me I guess. Parts of it sounded like someone had put Mr blobby into a washing machine while it was spinning slower and slower, other parts sounded like they'd just got really high and started making noises into the recording equipment. A bit like kids messing about with the casio keyboards at other times, so not what you might call particularly easy listening.

Lorde
5/5
Great. I'd never listened to Lorde beyond being unable to avoid Royals, but this was nice chill pop. Loved it.

Radiohead
4/5
Solid. Weird enough to be interesting. Nothing standout amazing but enjoyable as an album.
XTC
5/5
Excellent start, just a couple of (slightly more than usual) weird tracks in the middle but still really really good.
Tori Amos
3/5
Starts much stronger than it finishes, but in the end not really my cup of tea. Inoffensive as background music. Enjoyed "Leather", didn't enjoy "China".
Fugees
5/5
Brilliant. Full of great songs. Worth powering through some of the weirder skits but just par for the course at the time I guess.
The La's
2/5
This was ok at best. Obviously "There she goes" is **the** track on this album, but even that doesn't redeem it far. "Looking Glass" was actually terrible.
Black Sabbath
4/5
They'd benefit from not standing at the other end of a concrete hallway from the microphone. The tracks they are in the same room as the mic for are great.
Frank Zappa
3/5
There's a lot going on here. Perhaps too much at times. Can't say I completely enjoyed this, but it's certainly been an experience.
Simply Red
2/5
Mostly inoffensive. First half much better than the later tracks, which drag this down from being middle-of-the-road.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
4/5
Liked this though the album was probably a bit on the long side which made it repetitive. Keeping it condensed would've probably added a star but it's really good nonetheless.
Joni Mitchell
4/5
Loved the piano and guitar on this, and Joni can really hit those high notes effortlessly. Probably won't come back to this one as it's not my thing, but it's pretty good.
Dennis Wilson
3/5
Pretty good at times but dragged down by a few of the boring tracks. Middle of the road in the end.
Black Sabbath
4/5
Better than paranoid, but way more chill. They've sorted out their echo based recording method too, still not a 5 though
The Cure
2/5
boring, nothing even happens.
John Prine
4/5
Quite liked this. The lyrics were great.
Elvis Presley
5/5
Nice. Early-ish Elvis. Reminded me to go back to him a bit.
Def Leppard
5/5
Bit slow at the start of the second half, but a great finish
Morrissey
2/5
It's hard not to let thinking Morrisey is an idiot affect the rating here, but in the end I'm not sure what makes this so great it's like most other people's first solo albums after they left a group, a bit disappointing.
Saint Etienne
4/5
wikipedia said "trip-hop" and that was correct
The Roots
3/5
A few bangers here but too much guff. Really liked Break You Off. Most of the rest was unremarkable
Billy Joel
4/5
The first track is an absolute bop and it doesn't let up much from there. This was not what I expected when it gave me Billy Joel, but I love it.
The Prodigy
5/5
noice
Dusty Springfield
3/5
Not really my thing, but an easy listen.
Dolly Parton
4/5
Chill out country, like it. Probably won't be going and listening to Dolly's back catalogue. Glad to give her this revenue for the vax though. Cheers Dolly
Deerhunter
2/5
bit hit and miss here, and even then, the hits aren't amazing
mmmmm this is ok. A bit too 70's for me I think
Wilco
4/5
Quite liked this.
The Charlatans
2/5
There's some proper Gallagher pronunciation here innit. What a mess.
Tortoise
3/5
This was fine, it suffers ,like some classical music, in that even if I wanted to listen to djed again, it's too long and too much of a commitment to put it on a playlist or something. As background music it's generally alright though
Soft Cell
2/5
More like "please stop erotic cabaret" amirite? Even tainted love doesn't redeem this.
The Undertones
3/5
decent rock album.
Can
Alexander 'Skip' Spence
2/5
The circumstances around the creation of this album are interesting (and a bit sad), but I can't say Columbia were wrong to think it's bad.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
This was alright, kind of didn't notice it was playing till it had finished. Chill and inoffensive background music.
Frank Sinatra
3/5
a relic of its time, not for me these days, but not terrible.
Solange
4/5
Weirdly I really liked the interludes on this. I guess they'd get old on repeated listens but normally the interludes on these albums are annoying from the get go. Music was alright too.
Wu-Tang Clan
1/5
the skits and stuff really detract from what's already a boring as hell album. Every track was the same as the last, nothing interesting here, no good raps, no good backing tracks. Think I'll stick to good rap.
Queens of the Stone Age
4/5
This started strong, but the middle was weak. Weirdly liked the last track though.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
There's some great tracks on here, but they're the covers. And they're not as good as the originals so...
The Monks
1/5
I don't think it will ever be black monk time in my house again.
Iggy Pop
3/5
Nothing that special here.
Kate Bush
3/5
Weirdly like this. Feels like a cross between a load of other artists, but I guess Kate did some of this stuff first.
Ice Cube
3/5
Fairly standard rap album, some good some bad. The interludes weren't as cringe as they could've been so pretty good.
Donovan
4/5
I wasn't expecting to like this but it was good. Folky and trippy, with some good tunes in there.
Nirvana
3/5
A couple good tracks but mostly just mediocre shouting.
Deep Purple
3/5
Would've been better if they'd stuck to having actual songs not just 20 minute drum solos.
Cocteau Twins
3/5
Pretty good. Nice in the background but nothing standout.
Buzzcocks
4/5
Energetic. Not a fan of the vocals but they don't detract from the music that much.
Roxy Music
3/5
Bit too trippy for me. Some of the heavier stuff was alright though.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Didn't expect to be quite so into this, but it's great.
The Who
4/5
Quite liked this. Though the condensed original is much better than the later rereleases. Only worth listening to that anyway
Motörhead
3/5
I like Ace of Spades as a song, but loads of the other songs sound exactly the same, so this got pretty old pretty quick.
The Soft Boys
3/5
This was ok but a bit chaotic for me.
Metallica
4/5
Yeah enjoyed this quite a bit.
Dirty Projectors
3/5
I *think* I liked this. It was an experience.
The Velvet Underground
3/5
The Gift is the standout track here, but probably only for the first time of listening. Doesn't lift the rest of the album up above being mediocre, especially on subsequent plays.
Blur
2/5
Kind of boring honestly, and when it wasn't it was just irritating.
Hole
5/5
Great
The Doors
3/5
A few bangers on this one, but Weird Al did it better.
Boston
5/5
just great, full of absolute bangers
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
Some of these tracks go on waaaaaaay too long
The Magnetic Fields
2/5
The good tracks are good, and the lyrics are great. But this many tracks is just way too much. There's not enough stuff to tie the whole thing together which I guess means I don't get the concept of the concept album but hey.
Burning Spear
3/5
A pretty good reggae album
Doves
3/5
This was ok, no standout tracks for me but decent over all.
Ray Price
3/5
Could've done without the intro, but the rest of the album was decent. I guess they didn't know what people wanted back in the 60s, but the music is good.
Beck
2/5
I know he's trying to do something by using 400 different genres but I'm not sure it works. There's just too much going on.
The Lemonheads
3/5
pretty bland honestly
Portishead
4/5
chill and funky.
Steve Earle
3/5
upbeat country, alright to bop along to but nothing particularly memorable about this.
Goldfrapp
5/5
Wow, never heard of goldfrapp before, but this is sick.
Waylon Jennings
2/5
I feel like I was misled by the title of this album. I hoped it would be some nice old school jazz, but it's actually country... It *is* more jazzy than some of the other country I've had so far, but only for a couple of tracks. It also has some rock influences by the sounds of stuff, but comes back to the classic common themes like trucking and dumping/returning to women. Just not my jam I guess.
Metallica
4/5
Actually pretty good. Live albums can be way more hit and miss but really liked this one. Never listened to metallica before but might give them more of a go.
Björk
3/5
This wasn't as weird as I expected.
Bee Gees
2/5
Finding it hard to articulate why I didn't like this. I hoped it would be some bee gees bangers (they must have some right?) but I guess it wasn't...
Janis Joplin
5/5
Great. Jazzy but heavy at times. Love it.
Pavement
2/5
classic 90s whiny indie music. Basically average to bad, not interesting.
The Smashing Pumpkins
5/5
Great
Janelle Monáe
5/5
This was great. A brilliant mash of genres with interval tracks that didn't intrude at all. The first and last tracks are excellent as well, which probably helps. Some of the middle tracks were weaker, or a bit weirder, but I'll definitely be returning to this one.
Lenny Kravitz
4/5
Pretty good. Particularly enjoyed "Mr. Cab Driver", but I was definitely watching the tracks towards the end counting down the number remaining.
John Lennon
3/5
A bit hit and miss for me.
Kraftwerk
3/5
I know it's monotonous on purpose, and it did conjure up being in the back of a car on a long trip, but that's just not that enjoyable. Impressive and inoffensive, but not that interesting.
Cocteau Twins
3/5
Not super my thing, but it was fine as background music for the day.
Carpenters
2/5
It's like listening to a collection of opening credits songs for 70s sitcoms. I liked the cover of Help but the other stuff just started being a parody of itself. A bit too twee I think.
Dwight Yoakam
2/5
Possibly the most country, country album ever.
Rod Stewart
2/5
The heavier tracks are really good. Not here for the chilled out stuff though, it doesn't suit his voice.
I also don't see the point of the tracks where you can't hear him over the instrumentation, but maybe that was cool back in the day.
Wild Beasts
3/5
A bit bland and nothing really. Inoffensive but boring.
Gillian Welch
2/5
This started strong, and I thought it might be alternative enough to be likable, but it retreated back more and more into the country as it went on. Not for me.
Black Sabbath
3/5
boring apart from the last track.
Orbital
2/5
The music here was decent but their heads are so far up their own nether regions with the stupid spoken tracks that its insufferable. Listening to some of their later stuff they've gotten a lot better.
fIREHOSE
3/5
Bit weird, pretty good.
LCD Soundsystem
2/5
I've not listened to much LCD Soundsystem before, but what I have I preferred to this.
David Bowie
4/5
The start of this was a proper bop. Way more chill towards the end, but it still made good background music. I probably won't come back to the last few tracks though.
The Doors
3/5
The music here is fine, just all a bit same-y
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
4/5
Enjoyable.
Radiohead
4/5
Weirdly likeable. Nice to have on in the background, with a few stand out moments too.
The White Stripes
5/5
I was worried that this might just be "other songs released with seven nation army", but actually enjoyed the rest much more than the overplayed first track.
Buffalo Springfield
4/5
This was alright.
Marvin Gaye
3/5
There are some really good tracks here but too much weird stuff for me.
The Byrds
2/5
Ghostface Killah
4/5
This was great but suffered from the skits and stuff.
The Fall
2/5
Instrumentation was good, but the vocals made it too much like annoying noise for me to really enjoy.
David Bowie
4/5
Quite liked this. Some good bangers and not too much weirdness.
The Cardigans
4/5
Wow. I'd heard Lovefool before but that might be the worst track on here. Good stuff.
David Bowie
2/5
Hmm not his best stuff. Quite liked the rolling stones cover but even that's not as good as the original.
PJ Harvey
3/5
Hmmmmm
Hole
3/5
Quite liked this one. Pretty boring in the middle though.
Willie Nelson
2/5
Just suffers from being a covers album.
Dire Straits
3/5
ehhhh this was alright. Bit too samey all the way through for me.
Fatboy Slim
4/5
Good stuff. My only criticism is that the tracks are each just a little too long, but that's pretty minor and probably just a side effect of the genre
Everything But The Girl
2/5
This is ok but not for me.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
I know people really rate Leonard Cohen, but I can't get over how he doesn't really sing his songs. Songwriting still mostly good but other people sing them better.
The Sonics
3/5
Bit shouty, but mostly enjoyable
Elliott Smith
3/5
Typical indie stuff really. Personally not my thing as I'd prefer something more upbeat, but this grew on me a bit on a second listen through.
The Allman Brothers Band
2/5
This was weirdly quite good but also a massive drag. Everything sounded the same and I didn't really like the bits songs you do get every so often.
Pulp
2/5
This was alright, but then the last track killed it for me. Thanks Jarvis.
Neu!
3/5
ehhhhh I wasn't super keen on this one. Not bad to have on in the background though.
Don McLean
4/5
Actually really liked this. I'd heard the title track loads of times but the rest was a pleasant surprise.
The Crusaders
4/5
Nice jazzy stuff.
Fats Domino
5/5
Really liked this.
A Tribe Called Quest
3/5
Quite liked this. Good range of samples and no weird skits.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Not convinced by this.
Christine and the Queens
3/5
I don't think this needed the dual language release for me. I far preferred the French but having all the tracks twice (basically) detracted a bit.
Nico
2/5
Some good tracks and some pretty terrible, not a huge fan of how poor Nico got drowned out by the instrumentation sometimes.
Ravi Shankar
4/5
Chill nice music with some good basic explanations.
Jane Weaver
4/5
Weird but quite liked it.
Queen
3/5
Much more of a rock opera feel to this than I was expecting. Ok overall.
The Mothers Of Invention
2/5
This was funny in places, but too weird to be good.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
5/5
Fred Neil
2/5
Bit too much crooning and a bit dated for me.
Bob Dylan
4/5
Liked this much more than Time Out Of Mind
The Velvet Underground
4/5
Nice, just got a bit weird towards the end.
The Undertones
5/5
Really liked this. Funny songs with good instrumentals.
Randy Newman
5/5
I think I've probably only heard Randy's music because of Toy Story, but this wasn't at all what I expected. Loved the satire.
Slint
3/5
Thought this was going to be too weird on the first listen through, but actually it's the right amount of weird.
Louis Prima
4/5
Upbeat and fun. Quite liked this.
Otis Redding
4/5
Good stuff. Nice original songs and covers. Interesting to hear songs that went on to be much more famously done by other people.
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
almost too weird at times, but ok overall.
Tim Buckley
3/5
Suzanne Vega
5/5
This grew on me a lot after the first impression being a bit proto rap spoken word waft.
Cream
3/5
This was alright, nothing amazing nothing terrible.
The Flaming Lips
3/5
This was ok
TV On The Radio
4/5
Weird but good
Raekwon
1/5
It's like a what-not-to-do-90s-rap-album. Too many skits, bad tracks, nothing going on. Boring repetitive guff.
Public Enemy
3/5
Better than some of the other 90s rap so far, but still not great.
Elton John
3/5
Harmless, sad there weren't any Elton bangers on here.
2/5
Eric Clapton
3/5
This was pretty good, enjoyed some of the covers.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
Abdullah Ibrahim
4/5
Nice jazzy stuff
Rage Against The Machine
4/5
Great when you're in the mood for it.
Violent Femmes
3/5
Good but tails off towards the end. Starts off a bit like modern indie which was a pleasant surprise.
Herbie Hancock
5/5
Jazzy and funky. Got really into some of his other stuff after listening to this.
Frank Black
2/5
Bit shouty for me.
Queen
4/5
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The less famous songs were a refreshing change of pace to what I thought I knew about Queen.
Count Basie & His Orchestra
5/5
Really good. Love a bit of big band
The Stooges
1/5
Not for me I don't think. Too much smashing up the studio and not enough music
The 13th Floor Elevators
3/5
Fine but nothing special.
The Avalanches
3/5
A bit too much noise for me. Some good tracks though
Steely Dan
4/5
Pretty good
Various Artists
3/5
Bit annoyed that I was trying to escape Christmas music and this came up but hey ho, would've been weird to get it in July I suppose.
Almost offensively sweet and twee but pretty on trend.
4/5
I guess this is iconic. I remember listening to it in music lessons at school, but the tracks are good so apparently that didn't put me off.
Iron Butterfly
4/5
Short and sweet. I knew of the title track but hadn't ever heard the extended instrumental before, but liked it.
Pixies
3/5
Too much incoherent shouting for my liking, familiar with tracks that were later covered by others but those were the pick of the bunch anyway.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Songs too long-winded for my liking. The lyrics are good but not sure I need quite so many verses per song.
Nick Drake
4/5
Chill, funky, and jazzy pretty good. Better than I was expecting for sure.
Tina Turner
3/5
Was torn between rating this good for the high energy power tracks Tina's great at, or badly for everything else. So I guess it's a 3...
Buena Vista Social Club
4/5
nice
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Good lyrics and sometimes he even managed to sing them
Teenage Fanclub
4/5
Had a shaky start imo, but picked up after that
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Stairway to heaven is ok but this is really good
Crowded House
3/5
Bland but ok.
Sonic Youth
2/5
Not for me
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
1/5
Nope, this is not the one
Gene Clark
3/5
This was fine. Some good tunes just not my style.
Public Enemy
2/5
Suffers from some of the same problems as other 90s albums like this, but the skits here aren't as in your face as some. Kinda boring samples and I don't think the rap sections carry it.
Iggy Pop
4/5
Liked this more than I thought I would. Always surprises me how old Iggy Pop is...
Spiritualized
3/5
Good background music but not sure I'd listen to it again.
Living Colour
4/5
Terrible album art but this was alright.
5/5
This was brilliant. Loved the disco aspect. Even when the lyrics are sad you want to bop.
Massive Attack
3/5
This was a lot chiller than I was expecting. Not all that interesting though but cool to have on in the background for a bit.
Joy Division
2/5
Pretty dire
Radiohead
4/5
Yeah real nice.
10cc
4/5
Tailed off a bit at the end but strong lyrics on most of the tracks.
Chicago
4/5
I could leave "person with guitar falls down stairs" but the rest of the album is great
Bob Dylan
3/5
Songs too long as per usual Bob Dylan, but inoffensive enough listening.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
What a weird concept. Songs were fine, but just so out of left field I don't think I particularly want to listen to it again.
Dizzee Rascal
3/5
Not Dizzee's best tbh
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
4/5
Ended up quite liking this after not being sold on the first track. High energy with some proper good tracks all the way through.
Jacques Brel
5/5
Actually quite enjoyable. Have to say I wasn't looking forward to some French crooner but the style is so different to what you'd get in English that it's refreshing. Probably benefits for being a live album too.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Pretty good despite stairway ;)
Jerry Lee Lewis
5/5
Fun, high energy, bangers.
Beach House
5/5
This sounds a bit like the moody musical sections of some TV show, where the characters stare into the distance in the rain pondering what they've done. Not that that's a bad thing, really liked it.
Lorde
5/5
Great. I'd never listened to Lorde beyond being unable to avoid Royals, but this was nice chill pop. Loved it.
ABBA
4/5
This had way more abba hits on it than I expected.
Garbage
3/5
I wanted to like this more, the first track was really good, but it went downhill into whinyness
System Of A Down
3/5
Not my favourite genre, but an interesting showcase of it I suppose.
R.E.M.
3/5
This was alright.
Minutemen
2/5
nah didn't like this. Too many tracks and too sporadically good. Would've been better as a condensed single album of the good ones.
T. Rex
4/5
This had enough good tracks to drag it up a star but very hit and miss.
Nick Drake
4/5
Very chill. Excellent for background I didn't even notice when I got back to track 1
Wilco
3/5
Not for me I don't think. Some good stuff but not enough.
Gary Numan
5/5
Loved it.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
3/5
A bit hit and miss. Dislike shouty RHCP anyway and this was a bit too much of that.
The Cars
3/5
This was close to being good. Some good tracks just not a fan of the vocal style. Also think I'm going to have nightmares about the crop of the album art that Spotify decided on...
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
pretty good funky stuff, nothing stand out though.
The Jam
2/5
pretty dull 80s stuff, whiny vocals and boring songs.
Pink Floyd
4/5
yeah nice.
Michael Jackson
3/5
Some good mj some less good, alright overall.
Femi Kuti
3/5
Not my favourite but not terrible.
4/5
Got some strong Beatles vibes from some of these tracks. Quite liked it on the whole.
The Go-Go's
4/5
pretty good high energy pop stuff
Jeru The Damaja
2/5
A bit crap 90s rap. At least there weren't any poorly-aged or downright bad skits
Beastie Boys
1/5
Actually terrible. Went into this wanting to like it but just couldn't get through it. Just some lads destroying stacks of empty tin cans and shouting.
Mekons
3/5
Very eclectic. Enjoyed probably slightly more than half the tracks though. Shame that the lead track was bad though as it coloured my opinion of the whole thing.
Oasis
3/5
This was ok, Sunsheeeeiiiiiinnnee
Pink Floyd
4/5
Tailed off towards the end but strong overall.
Ministry
2/5
Bit much for me overall but liked most of the guitar riffs
Belle & Sebastian
4/5
Nice, chill stuff, fun lyrics
Common
5/5
Really good. I'm not a Kanye fan at all, and he had some of his fingers in this pie, but I guess Common managed to keep it good.
The The
2/5
Just a bit too 80s for me
Nas
2/5
Boring raps, with dull backing samples that sound a bit like jazz-esque background music they'd play in a restaurant. Just a bit meh all the way through
New Order
3/5
This got better as it went on, standout track was Elegia for me, possibly due to a lack of awful vocals.
Antony and the Johnsons
5/5
I wasn't convinced I was going to like this after the first track, it sounded a bit unfinished, like a demo or something. But as I got into it I realised that this just works, and ended up enjoying it a lot.

Tricky
3/5
Bit too weird for me, but fun for a bit of background music.
The Streets

Never knew that "Fit But You Know It" was part of some over arching drama concept album. Not one I'd want to listen to all the time but probably will come back to this one.

This was fine. Not helped by Spotify hiding half the tracks but what was there was alright.
