Reviews (page 7 of 8)

This album feels like it's stuck in time. It was fine, but outside of the era it was created, will always feel dated.

fav songs: baubles, bangles and beads elegant, intimate, underwhelming 40/100

Okish. Sinatra has a lot better songs out there. This didn't really do it for me

Oops! all slow jams. Zzz. 2.5

Let Antonio Carlos Jobim cook!

"Let's boogie to some Bossa Nova, grab that Sinatra album!" said no-one ever. Worst rendition of Girl from Ipanema on this list thus far, and that's the best of the genre. Plus two more, just in case you forget what you were listening to!

Sinatra once again disappoints, although Jobim saves this. Mostly sleepy. Just listen to the Getz/Gilberto album.

bored to tears by this. nice, but boring.

Background music...

Somnolent and ultimately pointless. Probably good for background music as you try to romance someone else's wife and forget it's on.

less than the sum of its parts.

I blame it in the Bossa Nova. 2/5 30/4/26

I’m glad this generation is dead.

Sinatra is great and the bossa nova music is great, but often, it just feels like they don't click. Overall largely dull. "The Girl from Ipanema" was probably the best track by far. "I Concentrate on You" isn't too shabby either.

nice romance.. but i'm not feelinggg the bossa nova ::::')

Succeeds on its own terms and Frank has a great voice. But this is a personal rating and I don't like crooners or lounge music.

1. ipanema - 2 2. dindy - 2 3. partnerz - 1 4. quiet - 2 5. meditation - 2 6. never - 1 7. inzenzetive - 2 8. concentrate - 1 9. banglez - 0 10. loved - 2

I usually like Sinatra’s voice but this one doesn’t work for me. It feels lacklustre, like he’s not feeling it and the consistently slow tempo doesn’t help. I know this style is kinda laid back but it needs for oomph and personality, which is sadly lacking here

Frank, Frank, Frank. Yes he has a rich melodious voice but could we speed it up just a little. Even lounge room on a lazy Sunday afternoon it is just a bit too soporific. I have listened to other albums by Frank on the list, but not through this generator, that I enjoyed more. Maybe it is just the passage of time since I last listened to Frank that has dulled the pain. Pass.

I like Frank Sinatra and I like bossa nova but it was probably not a good idea to put the two together. It comes across as cheesy in a bad way.

Hope this wasn’t supposed to be romantic cause it comes across slimy as hell

Couldnt finish, too old

Two great tastes that just don’t mix at all. It’s also pointless as half of these songs have already been performed definitively by one half of this duo.

I know this is an important album and obviously, it's Frank Sinatra, but my appreciation for bossa nova does not extend to this much bossa nova in one place, and certainly not this much Girl From Ipanema in one place.

This album is fine, sinatras voice is a smooth as ever but I found his versions of some of these songs clunky. Quite bland in places.

Sinatra goes bossa nova. Didn't make me like him any more.

I just kept thinking I would rather be listening to anything by Nara Leão or João Gilberto than Sinatra in a bossa nova setting. He simply doesn’t fit this style. Sinatra’s voice sits in front of everything instead of within the composition. It lacks intimacy, and his precise articulation makes it feel stiff in a genre where relaxed timing is everything. A completely unnecessary record. Best song: Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars Worst song: Change Partners Cover check: Late night at the lounge

Sad old men sing about how unsuccessful they are with women 3.5/10

In this album, Sinatra collaborates with Antonio Carlos Jobim, who, as the Wikipedia says, is labeled as the creator of "Bossa Nova", and they create a very slow and kind of flat album. What truly shines about this record is the instrumentation. I think it is subtle and beautiful at times, like the flute solo in "If You Never Come To Me", but without really being the main protagonist, and that is my problem, because Sinatra's voice here sounds very uninspiring, dragging and monotone. In fact, I decided to listen again the song "You Make Me Feel So Young", because I had to listen to that album before, so I have a comparison to make, and in this song he sounds way more lively and passionate. While it is true that both this album and "Songs for Swingin' Love" go for two different aesthetics, the first one being way slower than the other, I think my point still stands. When this man wants, he can sing with passion. In summary, the only thing that was really worth noticing is the nice instrumentation, because Frank Sinatra's performance is quite disappointing and makes the album a bit tedious.

Fuck no... Music for browsing the garden centre... Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ enough Revisit ❌️ Default★★☆☆☆ (4/10) Total reviewed : 260 Already owned : 60 Purchased : 15 To buy list : 1 Nope : 184

Strike 5, a week of total dogs. The other 4-5 Sinatra albums were hard enough but add in a Latin flavor and I was ready to poke my ears out. This is music to fall asleep to. I'm just not a fan of the genre, not big on Latin music, can't relate to the cartoon horn section and the dramatic string and smokey vocals. This was like one long song, the entire album was stuck in first gear for 40 minutes until the engine burned up and fell out the bottom! This was dated even in 1967. It does not hold up well. I was bored from the first note and dozed off midway through. 2 stars, thanks for coming Frank.

There will never be another voice quite like Frank’s, and that voice should probably not have sang this record. Let this be a reminder that bossa nova had a fad period and standards singers used to make paycheck records.

Not for me

Do one Frank

using first-middle-last name for a collaboration with somebody known by first-middle-last: funny & cool. goes great with an unadorned living room full of white Ikea furniture. music: hated. (⌐■_■)

[listening to sick Brazilian Music] “You know what would make this better? If it were sung by Ol’ Blue Eyes. The Voice. The Chairman of the—“

This does absolutely nothing for me. Inoffensive, retrograde easy listening, given how much else was going on in '67.

Music for people with clear vinyl covers in their living room furniture or for Italian restaurants that haven't upgraded their decor since 1974. Not bad but not good and definitely not worthy of having to be listened to.

Very boring listening experience, Frank Sinatra doesn’t really have the vocal prowess or character to sell the bossa nova style. Meditation in particular was such a slog to listen through

This album was disappointing. For the most part I found it boring. Girl from Ipanema is a great song but I’ve heard other versions that are much better. The only other track that I liked was I Concentrate on You. I liked the arrangement. I thought Frank sounded kinda flat and the vocals didn’t seem to go with the music. I like Frank Sinatra’s voice more when it is accompanied by a robust arrangement and a swingy song. The paired back samba/bossa music didn’t complement his vocals.

Decent 2. Overall, I felt like this album was pretty boring and a lot of the songs sounded the same. “The Girl from Ipanema” was good a fun way to start the album off and I had high hopes, but sadly, they were not met.

I was disappointed in this album. For the most part, Sinatra’s vocal style didn’t fit with the bossa nova music. It made for a forgettable listening experience. The one highlight was I Concentrate On You where the upbeat tempo suited the vocals better. But overall - meh.

This one felt as though Frank heard the two Stan Getz bossa nova albums, in 62 with Charlie Bird and in 64 with Jose Gilberto, and said to his managers, "Find me some Brazilian musician. I want to record one of these bossa nova records." It's Frank's buttery crooning, along with that style of string and orchestral arrangements, slathered rather heavy-handedly on top of Antonio Jobim's cool bossa nova guitar and percussion. The result feels like a disconnect between styles. It's not nearly as complimentary as you'd want it to be. It's not bad. It's listenable. It would connect to a certain audience that got caught up with the bossa craze of the 60s and followed anything Frank released. Beyond that, it just isn't compelling enough to want to listen to it again. Due to my general aversion to crooners and the feeling that I'd want to hit skip if it popped up again on some music feed, it's a 2 star.

Can appreciate the quality, song craft, lush arrangements but to me this style of music is background music for an Italian restaurant, it jus can’t hold my attention.

Not for me at all obviously. It's the kind of music that is pleasant enough in the background if you're dining in la vigna.

Not my cup of tea. Glad to listen to Ol’ Blue Eyes do his thing but it’s not something I would return to in a hurry. The Ipanema song is pretty cool and the various studio sessions of that song that appear at the end of the 50th Anniversary Edition I listened to on Spotify were an interesting listen.

Rather dull and samey, nothing really stood out from start to finish. Two stars.

Hm. Not great.

My favorite thing about this album is all of the well-written, negative reviews. I had no idea that so many people hate Sinatra as much as I do. It warmed my heart.

Girl from Ipanema is an obvious (if overplayed) classic and overall I did enjoy the timbre of this album, but it's hard to get over the fact that ultimately this is just the same song played 10 times.

This album reminds of the scene in Futurama where Calculon is singing at a wedding. That’s how it feels to have Frank Sinatra on a bossa nova album. His crooning voice blaring over the subtle and delicate music that Jobim is weaving. In the medley near the end of the album there’s a moment where Jobim is singing, and Sinatra promptly pipes up to talk about how great he is, like Frank can’t go 30 seconds without hearing his own voice. I love this genre, this album is a worst of both worlds. I wish a more traditional bossa nova had taken its place.

Listened while playing Ball x Pit. I get that this guy is the voice of a generation but man was this boring from front to back. Now I know where to turn when I'm having trouble falling asleep. The Girl From Ipanema isn't looking at you, Frank? She's probably covering her drink when you're near too.

Frank Sinatra is balls

A combination of two Jazz giants that really doesn't do it for me. Neither Sinatra's crook nor Jobim's laid back acoustic guitar have any chemistry or common ground. Surely there are more Bossa Nova records by Jobim, Giberto or Getz that are more deserving of this list than this album. Best Tracks: - Meditation Worst Tracks: - The Girl From Ipanema - Dindi Rating: 3/10

Elevators: World Tour

Over and over again I’m so impressed with Bowie. He practically remakes his style for every single album. He’s innovative. He takes risks, he’s everything people tell me the Beetles are. Easily one of my favorite by him on the list so far.

Nothing super duper here I'm afraid. Obviously listen to Sinatra but not this one

Does every song need to center around gooning on women?

I normally like Sinatra but this is the proof that everyone can have a bad day

As a huge Sinatra fan I cannot understand why this album was chosen over far better albums. The singing was uninspired and the orchestration subdued and boring. For someone listening to Sinatra for the first time I can see why people are not impressed but to a base that opinion on this one album is unfortunate. Listen to Sinatra's early swing albums or his mid 60's work and then decide.

Personally not a fan of Frank Sinatra. His voice is too polished and the accompaniment is always so overproduced and artificial feeling to me; it ends up reading as soulless elevator music a lot of the time. This doesn't hold a candle to Getz/Gilberto.

I just couldn't quite get into Sinatra singing bossa nova. He rules his chosen type of music but is maybe so iconic in that, that any other type of music sounds a bit wrong.

not frank’s best— falls flat

Bossa Nova isn't my jam and the sum of the two parts here is less than the individual contributions

Frank Sinatra could sing in tune. Whatever

Oh , jeez.....I love Sinatra's albums from the 50s and 60s. Except for a couple, and this is one of those. It's not _bad_ so much as boring, which I blame on Jobim's involvement. Also Claus Ogerman was an odd choice of orchestrator - he did this and another Sinatra/Jobim album, The World We Knew. He did several for Jobim alone, I think, but no others with Sinatra. Oh well. I'll give it another listen, but I don't expect I'll change my opinion.=

Mobsters with nice voices. Sure.

For it being an evening if watching football, and stuffing my face with turkey, this should serve as fine background music(nevermind the fact Frank Sinatra was scum). It's under 30 minutes, and still felt too long. Favorite Track: "Change Partners".

Sinatra and Bossa Nova do not mix.Great idea but in the execution it feels awkward to say the least, especially with Jobim's backing native vocals at times. In Dindi however that it feels more like a jazzy intrumental i can see it,but overall i feel like every song(well most of them) is the same,at the same key,the bossa nova is slowed down to a more jazzy tempo and Sinatra is somehow vocally restricted. 2/5

I’m not from New York. The vibes are something that bum me out, I’m not gonna put it on.

Boring AF

All you need to know is Frank Sinatra accompanied by a Flamenco guitar

Not bad, but it didn't capture me. My favorite track they did was a cover of the original... never a good sign

Didn’t need to hear this before I die. Nothing about this that I liked. Giving it a 2 instead of a 1 because Sinatra.

Should be my sort of thing but wasn’t, found it mostly repetitive and a bit dull

Do do do do do. That's my impression of a Bossanova. It's not great. But luckily Old Blue Eyes and his mate what what they're at, also this album was mercifully short. I don't think I could put up with it being any longer.

Didn’t really enjoy this. Plain

Säger precis som efter förra Sinatra-skivan. Han sjunger bra, men det blir bara så otroligt långtråkigt och oengagerande. Tyvärr var bossa novan inget som rådde bot på det heller.

Too long and just more of the same

Easy music to listen to, but nothing super memorable.

Vackra varelse, ge mig en bossa!

like sinatra has cool vibes and everything but this just didn't do it for me

Meh. There's better Bossa Nova out there. Why waste time on this? Doesn't offer anything new.

Surprisingly maudlin

My confusion and dismay with why Frank Sinatra is popular continues with this one. It doesn't have the same cringe as "Making Whoopie" but it's still not good enough to justify his name as the King of Cool. This is my hill, this is where I die.

Very pretty orchestration around an iconic voice, but just not my thing

Treacly boredom with a Brazilian twist

I kind of wanted to like this more, and did really enjoy the opening song and a lot of the instrumentation on other tracks. But overall it feels a bit inauthentic, given that Bossa Nova was by no means a "new sound" at the time. Maybe it was new to Sinatra's fans at the time I guess. Pretty creepy lyrics on "Change Partners" and "I Concentrate On You" as well there, Frank.

Ive previously enjoyed the slices of bossa nova when i have been served them. This was based on a lightness, a sunniness and and an otherness that gave it an exotic feel. I like Franks voice, but i dont think it fits here. Its too recognisable, too powerful and weighs too heavily on the music. When Jobim sang it felt way more comfortable. Off to find more by him.

Pretty meh TBH.

Som nice covers here but not my fav versions … it’s ok

I outgrew Frank about the same time I outgrew the Beatles. But the instrumentation is good.

For some reason Frank Sinatra just leaves me cold.

If I had to listen to Frank Sinatra chug along in first gear for another minute...that would make 47 minutes, which isn't really very much but it felt like an eternity. I'm convinced that everyone who thinks they enjoy listening to Frank Sinatra sing Girl From Ipanema just hasn't heard the Astrud Gilberto version (which I heard thanks to this project).

Decent, gentle. Not sure if it needed Frank, but I guess it was of its time. High 2s

There are few things more underwhelming than a Frank Sinatra record. Like everything else he’s ever done, this is great music to put on in the background when you e got a new date coming over and you’re trying to convince her that you have taste so you can get laid.

Bit of a mediocre album really, nothing stellar that stood out to me, would maybe have it on in the background of a dinner party with old people, but I can't see that happening any time soon.

This is just not really my thing

Pleasant, which is another way of saying not that exciting.

1.5 stars A collection of not bad music but not very interesting bossanova music that Frank Sinatra sings. Nothing stands out and it reminds me of what albums used to be: a collection of music, some good and many forgettable. Sgt Pepper winning album of the year at the Grammys over this is an indication that even at the time when rock n roll was not given the credibility as an art form they realized that an album can be much more. This isn’t it. I could’ve died without listening to it. But at least it was only 28 minutes.

This is Sinatra's bossa nova album, what do you think it sounds like? Lovely stuff, if a bit dull - summons up scenes from a jet set life that I only have a distant view of.

Well... how do I start? Sinatra is huge, Jobim is huge, I'm brazilian and must acknowledge the cultural importance of bossa nova and blah blah blah That being said, this album is monotone and monotonous, just like 95% of bossa nova. Not by chance, it's called samba played by who can't play samba. It lacks dynamics, some shadow and light, a big ending by the orchestra, is quiet and willing to stay out of the way of the wealthy listeners. You can picture that kind of rich businessman who listens to this in the 60's while has his breakfast reading the journal. In other words, like some clever fella reviewed, it has some limp dick energy. Sinatra has a big, loud voice, for jazzy things, not for this. And the Rush version for Girl From Ipanema in the 2002 concert is more fun, even though it was jokingly played.

Liked this a lot less than the other Sinatra albums on here His voice and phrasing are of course great But there’s a lot of soporific Muzak here too

Not much of a fan of this one, I like frank though

Great voice, but the music is just too slow for me.

I don't think I will listen to this album again. Nothing wrong with the music or his voice, it is just... tedious.

Frank has a nice voice, but he does absolutely nothing interesting with it.

Fint og flott og alt det der. Gjesp.

I'm partial to a bit of Sinatra - but this was pretty limp stuff. Not a fan of the bossa nova and the songs felt swamped in the arrangements .

Love Sinatra, dig Carlos and his bossanova vibe with the acoustic guitar, buuuut, this whole album feels like one long elevator ride amiright?

First, I'm more of a Dean Martin guy. This one seems overly weary, and not in a relaxing kind of way, more of a 'fall asleep to get it over with' way. As for Sinatra...I don't know man. I kinda feel like he takes himself way too seriously, and sucks any fun out of the songs here.

Eh, it was ok. A bunch of the same really.

Kinda cool idea, but also didn't make an impression

Bro fuck this guy and his crooning ass bullshit. Bossanova was already out of style by the time this fucko got his hands on it, only to slather it in his bullshit. Fuck this era and lazy-ass style of "not-actually-singing-but-sort-of-talking-slow" music. Fuuuuck him. If it wasn't for Antonio Carlos Jobim this would be a 1-star.

It's nice but nothing I would listen to away from this list.

This is like elevator music. Easy to zone out to. Orchestral and slow-paced. Most songs sounded similar. Not too bad but not my fave.

I think the best thing about this album is its brevity.

Boring ass 50s music, even if it was cool at the time. Drinking single malt while listening didn't help.

I don't have any thoughts on this one. It played while I worked, and it largely went unnoticed. I guess I wasn't in the mood. 2

Wat. So this is my 201st album. I miss when my 101st album came to me. was Abbey Road. yeah i mean this is really boring. and i might be the biggest brazilian music hater in the most fucking world. I will only remember you for the hundreds of versions of "My Way", Frank. 2.5/5

Sinatra's voice sounds too loud in the mix and the fairly uninspiring arrangements lurk in the background.

The music gets it a two. Frank has a smooth voice but damn he bores the hell out of me.

Boring as hell

Larry’s description put it best

Mmmnnnooo, this was not for me. I felt like I'm stuck in the elevator for half an hour.

Did not love this album. Frank Sinatra sings off key on most of the songs.

Not really my style

Meh 4/10

If you like this sort of thing, it's probably fun. Mostly reminds me of elevators.

The two styles don't quite mesh together. Sinatra seems flat and lifeless and the strings completely obscure Jobim's warmer, more intimate sound. Replacing the orchestra with a Brazilian combo might have produced a more authentic collaboration, but this thing is a dud. The last two tracks are the only ones worth listening to. More Jobim.

Som en paus i Florida Keys som jag egentligen inte är bjuden på

Feels like I should be listening to this in a dimly lit trattoria eating spaghetti & sippin' Cabernet Sauvignon.

Herre jesuit vad tråkigt

FAN vad trött gubbe.

A little joke: What are Sinatra and Jobim’s favorite kind of pants? Jean jean jean jean jeans. It’s Girl From Ipanema, the song where he’s singing to the gingerbread man from Shrek, and then a bunch of other songs that are like boring versions of Girl From Ipanema

What’s smoother than a bossanova Frank Sinatra album? This thing is like a caricature of a romantic album. For that reason it’s hard to take it seriously, or even to pretend that I will find use case for spinning it. Maybe if I decide to sprinkle road pedals that lead to the bedroom on Valentine’s Day. But until then, it will remain on the shelf.

Turns out Frank's not so great at bossa nova, and bossa nova's not so great with Frank.

oh my god, so boring. this is sinatra strung out on barbituates and whiskey, singing his lowest effort shopping mall bossa nova and saying "hey cats, check out this brazilian fella i found. i make him play these jazzy little guitar progressions at half the volume as everything else. in't that swell?" look how shocked i am that this lost the grammy to Sgt Peppers. look how shocked i am that they scrapped their second collaboration. it's not a coincidence that the album cover has sinatra in the foreground twice the size of jobim in the background. jobim deserved better. the orchestra deserved better. 2/5 sinatra gets one point for waking up from his medically induced coma in the last three tracks

hotel lobby jazz

It’s college jazz band rep time! Frank is great but I do agree with the general consensus that it feels like he wanted to cover bossa nova music because it’s the cool thing to do at that moment. The original arrangements kick the shit out of these but we got these on the list because it’s Frank. I’m sure we’ll get more Frank that’s better than this, and in the meantime go listen to the Getz/Gilberto album that a lot of Jobim's original compositions are on. Which of the five girl from ipanema recordings on this album is YOUR favorite?

Is this relaxing or is this just boring? Idk man, i like big band frank more and bossa nova without frank more as well. 2/5

Rating: 5/10 Meh.

I don't know whether there is much point to this. It's easy listening, it's of its time and it's for a different generation to me. Sure he could sing but this is not rock and roll.

It gets very boring, very quickly. Which is a real shame after the jaunty start.

It was OK, but nothing really enjoyable in my mind. "The girl from Ipenma" is one that I know, but I don't need to hear it again.

It was good to have this album in order to compare it to the other music styles of the late 60s. I appreciate Bossa Nova and Frank's voice. I found the album bland.

# 437 : 17/03/2025 : meh! Not my thing - I'm sure there was much better records to listen to in 1967….

I love Frank. Big NJ guy. Love Jobim....but this didn't really land with me. Felt like a focred collab

Not Sinatra at his best by any stretch, this is mostly elevator music. Only liked The Girl from Ipanema and Change Partners, after that I literally slept through the rest.

Music school ruined this music for me. It just sounds like work. Not something I can relax to. Too bad, because I remember there was a time I actually kinda liked bossa nova. But it just reminds me too much about being tortured as a student and also as a player. Frank's voice is very nice and Tom Jobin's compositions are beautiful as always. I just have too many negative memories attached to this music style.

Sinatra's usual crooning but mixed with bossa nova. Not particularly interesting to me.

Music for people who call ICE on their neighbors and claim not to be racist because a few bars are en español.

So boring that I turned on a premier league game instead of listening to this

I dunno, vocal jazz stuff like this always just puts me to sleep.

No idea why this is on this list. To my ears, both Sinatra and Jobim come out diminished by this disappointment.

A nice evening with non-alcoholic cocktails and bar music... after two or three cocktails it doesn't matter what's playing in the background!

Just made me want to listen to the originals. One of the original crossovers? Rating: 2.4

thought of my lovely nan, how dreamy this transportive this must have felt to her. lovely elevator music.

Sinatra and Samba is not a well matched pair in my ears, so I didn't like this so much. Glad it was short at least. 2/5

синатра четкий пацан, но здесь в таком жанре тухлой боса новы ему нет места

Once again we have a Sinatra album that doesn't reflect his best work; Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim is him trying his hand at bossa nova stylings and, while The Girl From Ipanema is jauntily fun, the rest of it is dull and fairly troublesome in its lyrical content. Does nothing for me, basically just play the big tunes Frank, let us enjoy those and leave this stuff alone. 2.

Sleaze in musical form, so much sleaze that I needed to take a shower afterwards.

Не люблю такое

Ovo mi je više od malo cheesy

Soft skiva men inte så jättebra. Första låten bäst.

Tall ✗ Tan ✗ Young ✗ Lovely ✗ Girl ✗ From Ipanema ✗ Goes walking ✗ No wonder I'm grumpy all the time... While not that interesting, it was perfectly listenable

This wasn't at all difficult to listen to; pleasant, actually. However, this really isn't for me, and I seriously doubt I will listen to this on purpose. That said, if it came on, I wouldn't change it The last two tracks could be completely omitted: one is a medley of the several of previous songs, then the last is a repeat of the first with non-meaningful differences

他詮釋的「A Girl From Ipanema」感覺舒服溫柔的假日,但沒有原版的那種渡假熱帶風情。我比較喜歡原版的Ipanema。

Was like cool jazz album that got turned into a 50's movie soundtrack

Its very long, all songs are similar, if you like one you like all. I like all bit dont feel this is a superb album. Just anpther good album that you can let run. Nothing special

it’s fine of course i can’t say it was BAD. but it’s certainly not all that interesting to me. i think laura made a comment elsewhere about how some music (like sinatra) is just so buttery that it ends up being kinda boring cos it’s TOO good. there isn’t enough variation here... thank god they invented rock & roll cos i would have been bored to tears if this was all i had to listen to. i think jobim’s voice is more interesting than sinatra’s. idk how to rate this cos i know it’s not bad but i also don’t care about it on literally any level. these are not intelligent thoughts but oh well.

Great voice of course, it just doesn't work with this material.

First song was great. Got boring after that.

2.5 Mediocre Frank. In one air and immediately out the other. Most interesting thing here is a bonus track where the laid back Frank has an increasingly difficult time keeping up with the driving Bossa Nova instrumentals. Made me laugh.

Still don't like Sinatra. 2/5

Just ok...short....

Gear: Hifiman Arya Artwork: 🚬🕴🏻🔲 Production: 😐🙂👌 Music: 🦥🤷‍♀️😑 Rating: 🥃🥃/5

Sinatra behind a mic is obviously going to lead to some great vocals, but that's kind of where the great parts of this album end. The backing instruments seem to just be there so Frank has something to sing over. Overall a bit forgettable. 4.75/10 (2.375/5)

Smooth but just very dull

The music was nice, and Frank Sinatra has a lovely voice, but damn this album is a drag. All these songs about unrequited love and sadness and pining after uninterested women. Was Sinatra the original “nice guy”?

#348. I got about half a song in before I realized I couldn't do it anymore. Look, his voice is great right, he's a fantastic singer, but man this kind of music just ain't it. 2/5: don't want

Eh, it's ok. You either like Sinatra or you don't

like all frank sinatra, tops out at "nice background music." I can't really say it's bad obviously but you will never catch me actively listening to frankie by choice. great example of a 3 but I'm feeling spiteful so minus 1 point for all the dumb guys who think frank Sinatra is the pinnacle of music

To classical for me

This is yucking someone's yum but: ehh. If you like jazzy covers and smooth singing, you will love this.

Look Sinatra is amazing but this isn’t his best work by any means…

Sinatra stinks. This is so boring. I stopped paying attention after the third song.

It's nice enough, but could have passed on this one Will I listen to again: 0%

So mellow I almost fell asleep

Sinatra is boring.

I don't mind the blend of Sinatra's crooning and bossa nova - the smooth, sophisticated, background-music-y qualities of both make natural bedfellows. That said, neither element on its own particularly interests me, and having already given mediocre scores to previous Sinatra albums and the Getz/Gilberto album that features Jobim (as well as some of the exact same songs), I'm not going to give the the two in combination more than a 2 or 2.5.

I can clearly tell this is good. It’s just not for me. I like The Girl From Ipanema.

I usually like Frank Sinatra but to me this album was lacking.

Meh. I can only take so much croonjng

Sinatra’s singing was smooth, but I would’ve preferred this was an instrumental album because I much preferred the backing music. Ultimately the elevator music accusations are true with this one.

Meh was fine I guess but made me think of dentist waiting rooms

Frank's voice is amazing. His arrangements are hit and miss. When the violins are backgrounded it works much better. Easy listening is often way, way too easy. His voice here often has more chance to shine.

Bland music

Not for me

It’s okay - not my cup of tea but I can see why people like it

Sorry Frank, but you're too old

Ol Blue Eyes has a great voice but it isn't suited to the Bossa Nova style. Frank called it an exciting genre. Disagree with you there Mr. Sinatra. This wasn't exciting at all.

De hueva

This album is a bore (I don’t feel like typing the entire name out). Really the only song that is catchy and entertaining is The Girl From Ipanema, which has a nice vibe to it, and Frank has nice vocals. Otherwise, the album is meh. Nothing really noteworthy. Pretty mid. All in all, Frank Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim is a bad album. Best Song: The Girl From Ipanema Worst Song: if You never come to me

Album # 42 Ole Blue eyes and another dude, not from my generation of music and not very memorable

Sinatra crooning over bossa backing.

I'm sure I shouldn't say this about Sinatra, but this one just felt like elevator music. An effort to stay until the end.

i'm normally on board with whatever crazy mashup concept an artist suggests. metallica and a symphonic orchestra? sure. sitar and synthesizer? all righty. but this...? did this really need to exist? frank "mr steal yo girl" sinatra is at it again, providing smooth vocals over some nice bossa nova instrumentation, but like... that's it. his presence doesn't really add anything to the music and the band is doing just fine on their own. change partners was my favorite song because of how ridiculous it is. frank DEMANDS that this woman stop dancing with the man who is probably her husband so he can swoop in. read the room, frankie. just amazing. favorites: the girl from ipanema, change partners

I do like a bit of Frank, but a little too jazzy for me, this album.

Frank is one where I prefer the music recorded live. The emotion isn’t there in a studio album.

Not my thing, but I can see why some people would like it.

I don't know. It's forgettable. It's short. It's well orchestrated. But it feels so lazy. It's probably not. But it feels that way.

Ultimate elevator muzak.

The GIrl From Ipanema

Not my thing

Like so many things that are so effortlessly cool, it is also incredibly boring and lacking in substance.

Nah. I don't need to hear any more of this before I die.

the girl from ipanema and dindi are both great songs, franks covers of them though...a bit lack luster. I do really like the sentiment of this project, a really interesting collaboration. Hopefully they play to each others strengths more as the album goes on. We needed way more Antonio singing in this. Frank sinatra has swag but he doesn't have bossa nova swag, stay in ur lane champ.

I have always found this guy's music terribly boring and uninspiring. I feel like I'm watching an old movie and this is the background music. I don't know, listened twice and promised I'd open my mind, but this just doesn't do anything for me. I guess if I was on a date with Mindy, at a very nice restaurant, seeing her beautiful smile as she tells me how me she enjoys Frank, I'd be happy to hear. But I'm sitting at my desk trying to keep from thinking I'm in a doctors office waiting for my appointment. Waiting Room by Fugazi is a great song, btw. I'd only put his music on if Mindy wanted to hear and Mindy's not here, so 2 it is. 2

Oh, what a shame. This was boring and tedious, real struggle to get through it.

Alright

Was voorbij voor ik er erg in had. Zegt ook wel dat het niet heel opzienbarend was.

I think Frank benefits most from this collab and Jobim's art feelsdowngraded, I'll take Jobim without Sinatra. Makes me want to listen to Wave.

A mostly disappointing album that still left a sweet impression. I will go with the 1001 consensus here and say that Frank Sinatra is horny and so self-absorbed. An odd pick for 1967! We've had a late 60's Philly soul Elvis, and now a late 60's odd Getz/Gilberto-esque Sinatra record. I have no clue why this is on the list except that it probably sold boatloads. I am a huge sucker for these string arrangements, though. 101 Strings is unironically my favorite guilty pleasure music. 2/5

added to library. Maybe better background music than anything to actively listen to

how many times can you put girl from ipanema on your album?

Die Traummusik eines jeden Personenlifts?! Wird wahrscheinlich besser, wenn man es mehrmals hört.

2/5 - Some are bangers, most are snoozers. Some of these songs are fucking duds though - and the duds all sound alike, a Bond villain's boat music. Some of these songs could be made today (by a not shitty person) and would still sell/stream millions - as evidenced by his 17 million monthly listeners. Sinatra, music wise, was and remains timeless.

Ok so I'm sure this is an amazing album and all but I just can't bring myself to really give it a chance. Maybe sometime in the future I will but for now it just sounds cringe to me

There are two reasons all those "classic" records featuring Antônio Carlos Jobim (the Getz / Gilberto ones, or this record with Frankie "Old Blue Eyes") all have different versions of "The Girl From Ipanema" and "Corcovado", placing them in a prominent position (either sung by Gil, Astrud or Frank, or played as an instrumental). And those two reasons are: A) They are great tunes. B) The other tunes are nice and make for bittersweet-yet-airy soundtrack in your living room... yet let's be honest, they all sound the same, don't they? Same types of chords, same sorts of string arrangements, same laidback or close-to-inert energy--depending on your personal taste for bossa-nova. One exception for me is "How Insensitive". The orchestral strings there can remind you of the lush melancholy of Sinatra's own "It Was A Very Good Year". But you might elect to single out a different tune, of course. None of them are bad. But it's quite hard to decide which ones stand out. Because most of the songs on this album are still, well, samey. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that one single person in Dimery's team selected all those LPs by Getz/Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto, or Frank Sinatra. And since most of those LPs feel like copycat versions of another album selected by this same person, it gives you the weird feeling that this contributor is an old geezer having a very *narrow* comfort zone--always returning to the same songs featured in one way or another in those albums. Honestly, that way to enjoy music sounds very *boring* after yet another umpteenth version of those tropicalía or music-hall standards. There are so many great songs and so many interesting music genres out there, as Dimery's overall list proves it to us daily. So why always go back to the same old stuff? I've just read that this LP lost a Grammy to the Beatles' *Sgt. Pepper...*. Yep, the times they were changing fast during the late sixties. So maybe you can include early highlights by Sinatra, Gil, Getz and Jobim in a list of the most essential albums of all time. But including later releases by those admittedly legendary artists is most probably overkill, in my honest and humble opinion. So next, please. 2/5 for the purposes of this list, translating to a 7/10 grade for more general purposes (5+7). Number of albums left to review: 418 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 269 Albums from the list might* include in mine later on: 142 Albums from the list I won't include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 177 (including this one).

Maybe it's one of those albums I should listen to before I die, but honestly, it's boring...

Idk what's wrong with me. I wish I liked this more 2.2

The Girl From Ipanema is an instantly recognizable classic, but after hearing this album, I’m comfortable saying it’s about all the bossa nova I care to experience. With a new dose of sonic Valium administered every three minutes, summoning the energy to finish this was difficult.

All blends together. Strongest song is opener.

Big meh

Oh dear, the doldrums of albums gets no better this week. I love Frank Sinatra’s voice and it’s very nostalgic for me as I clearly remember his hits from my childhood but this is not his best work. Most tracks were too slow and got monotonous so again just a lowly 2*

Nice but dull.

Tall and tan and young and lovely … 4 things I am not… thanks for reminding me Frank! Smooth tunes though

not for me sorry

Sounds good but it's boring init

I don't really 'get' Frank Sinatra. He has a nice and smooth voice, but it does seem that his popularity is perhaps based more on an image/persona than anything particularly interesting or unique about his music. Here he sings bossa nova. I've not got a lot to say about it, so instead, the following is my top 5 ranking of Sinatra's nicknames: 5) Swoonatra 4) Mr. Baldy 3) Ol' Blue Eyes 2) Bony Baritone 1) Chairman of the Board Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Baubles, Bangles, and Beads Date listened: 29/08/23

en tykkää francis albert sinatrasta tässä... antonio carlos jobim henkilö herra ei pahemmin laula lorise tässä olisi voinut olla antonio carlos jobimilta vähän enemmän laulan lorinaa ja vähemmän francis albert sinatralta laulun lorinaa ja bossa nova on vähän jopa tylsääkin joo olen kusipää koska sanon näin minun ei pitäisi sanoa näin.......hullun horinoita vaan change partners

Some nice bossa nova sounds but overall I found it quite boring and I really didn’t need to hear Girl from Ipanema three times on one album

Äärimmilleen sliipattua. Tuntuu ettei ole sisältöä. Mut sielua silti kuitenkin? Heikkouteni bossa novaan ja erityisesti portugaliin puhuu.

Smooth. But a bit dull.

I like the Latin vibe, but it was just too soppy for me. Perfect for an Audrey Hepburn moving picture.

Now That's What I Call Elevator Music! '67

It's all the same song

This was already the 3rd album on this list with a rendition of "The Girl From Ipanema." I can hear Sinatra had a blast with this album, but the croon interpretation of the Bossa Nova on this album combined with the quite stereotypical orchestrations of Ogerman makes it a musical dud in my book.

Sinatra does bossa nova? I don't know.

Cat: pretty cool and it was relaxing, but it all started to blend together. Nothing changed or jumped out. AJ: fuck we doing here, Francis!?

pretty okay easy listening crooner music, probably better as background music even though album was a little short, nothing spectacular about it

Ok album. A lot of it sounded the same after a while

One thing I will say for old two-eyes, he did his own thing. Never mind that in 1967 everyone else was doing psychedelic, hippy-dippy, experimental music - Frank was going to do his thing. I mean sure, he's adapted it to some Brazilian style songs for this album but it's still his basic schmaltzy bullshit. Having said that, I've never seen the appeal of his style of music. To be honest, it sounds creepy to me. That's the only way I can describe it. It just makes me uncomfortable. He did have a very good voice, so for that reason I'm bumping my rating up from 1 star to 2.

Pleasant but uninteresting 2/5

Same aura as being whacked in the head with a wiffle ball bat repeatedly

C The Girl From Ipanema - 4, starting off with a banger? Ballsy. Dindi - 2 Change Partners - 2 Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars - 2 Meditation - 2 If You Never Come to Me - 2 How Insensitive - 3 I Concentrate On You - 2 Baubles, Bangles, and Beads - 2 Once I Loved - 2 I love Sinatra, and he's a pretty good actor too, but these were just a collection of slow, boring songs. It starts way too strong with The Girl from Ipanema, a certified classic. After that, it's your run-of-the-mill slow Sinatra love songs. Maybe it's because I'm not a 75 year old female, but my panties stayed right where they are.

I honestly prefer my Jobim with a little less Sinatra.

I'm not gonna deny the impact Sinatra had on Lounge music, but man, I just don't like this stuff. It's boring to me.

The Girl from Ipanema, If You Never Come To Me, I Concentrate On You and Baubles, Bangles and Beads. Boring but had some good songs and Sinatra’s voice is great. One of the all time greats. 5/1

where are all the good frank sinatra songs? The Girl from Ipanema

I'm a huge fan of Sinatra's voice but this album was quite boring except for a couple songs. 2.5/5

Not quite as boring as the other Frank albums I've listened to. Still boring.

Nothing to this at all. Felt like Sinatra was just going through the motions.

Great musicianship, an iconic singer, but it's a Bossa No - va from me.

Frank Sinatra has a beautiful voice and the guitar was beautiful but the album got pretty stale and redundant. 2.5/5

Pas touché,

I just don't seem to enjoy bossa nova (which is surprisingly well-represented on this list). But hey, this'll be my go-to if I ever time travel back to 1968 and want to seduce women I meet in airport bars.

Even with Old Blue Eyes on lead vocals, I found this boring.

I mean, I like and enjoy the singing of Frank Sinatra, but to be perfectly honest, I'm no fan of the Bossa Nova.

They don't make em like this anymore! I imagine if I was in some smokey bar I would probably quite enjoy this..... However, it doesn't really do much for me tbh. Bit lechy in parts too. None of his big hitters either. Doubt I'll be listening again. Sorry Frank

Frank can sing but man is he a one-trick pony. This is my second or third Sinatra album on the list, and each initially wows with the bombast and flair one would expect in vacuum from the crooner but quickly grows old over the span of 30-40 minutes. The added orchestral element here was a nice addition, but some sluggish sections + constant crooning didn't win me over at the end of the day.

This was some fun older songs, but I've never been a Sinatra fan. It's lounge singing, and not as good as Chris Isaak.

2/5 I didn't enjoy this and I love many FS performances on other records. Why bother with TGFI when the Getz/Jobim version is out there?

This was torture for me. Mostly because I worked at a bar and the owner was obsessed with Frank Sinatra and the rat pack and this shit was on repeat. For two years I work there they didn't even switch to Christmas music at Christmas time. Honestly from someone who worked retail the break from Frank Sinatra would have been a welcomed.

Jay Z is the king of NY

Better than I thought but I can't think of a time where I would put this album on

I tend to like Frank Sinatra, but I don't know what this was. Sounds like Frank was having a lost weekend.

Not for me, I couldn’t listen past the first two songs.

Elevator music

Decent Sunday morning coffee music. Can’t imagine I will crave a re-listen

Can’t believe this made the list and Getz/Gilberto didn’t.

Dad used to play these songs all the time. Stan Getz. Hate them all. Brazilian Bosanova and shove it

Always meant to listen to a Sinatra album but never got around to it. Glad this thing made me do it, but, meh

Eh. Girl from Ipanema is pretty good, but the rest is kind of a blur. Good vibes I guess. Introduced me to Antonio Jobim. Could have used more vocals from him on this. 2/5

Eh, kinda dull, it seems super typical sinatra
