The Marshall Mathers LP
EminemThese are the worst lyrics I’ve ever heard. I actively cringed while listening to this.
These are the worst lyrics I’ve ever heard. I actively cringed while listening to this.
I don’t get the Nirvana hype; this is just background music to me and I can’t stand his voice on this album. I was begging for this to end. Begging for mercy. The 30 seconds of clapping at the end of each song still echoes through my ears like a terrible memory. Because having to listen to Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged in New York IS a terrible memory.
I quite enjoyed it but there are so many more albums that deserve a place on the list rather than this
At first I was going to rate this 4, but after thinking about it there isn’t a single notable song. I think it’s merely tolerable which gives the impression of it being good, but in reality it’s just Fine.
Classic. Solidified the fact that Paul McCartney is an insanely good bassist.
It was alright, not unpleasant to listen to but not very attention grabbing
Stupid album.
It had good beats but was too long and had dodgy lyrics
Good dose of psychedelic rock
Some good songs but nothing too special
Worked really well as an album, wasn’t too repetitive and listening didn’t feel like a chore
Pretty boring and forgettable songs. Acted well as bland background music while I did my homework.
Yawn.
An eccentric album. Some of it’s good but some is just annoying
One of the greatest debuts ever, not a single bad song, despite the lack of a bassist
I could die perfectly happy without ever hearing this album
Such a good album front to back
12 days in and this is the 4th hip hop album already! Tbh I quite enjoyed this one
First song was weird but I really liked the rest of the album. Some good melodies
The first song or two was good but it was really quite unenjoyable after that
First few songs I wanted to shoot myself. Then there was one good song. Hurrah! Then I listened to the next few songs and wanted to shoot myself.
Some classic tunes
Well that was deeply unpleasant. Point for uniqueness I suppose
Couldn’t decipher a single word of this but I did really enjoy it, especially the last song
This never ends
Sounds like any soulless 2020s pop radio hit. Truly ahead of its time.
This is identical to the last electronic album, which was also awful.
Was slightly odd but not the worst
It was really good and nothing like I’ve had before, but did start sounding the same towards the end
Well that was fucking weird
First song was really good but it sort fell off from there
It was pretty good but I was expecting better
I actually really liked this
This was really energetic and had some great tunes
Thought I hated Bruce Springsteen but there were actually a lot of good songs on here. Sorry Bruce.
Thought it was just going to be shitty 80s synth pop but it was soooo good
Call me a 50 year old man but damn that was good
Thought I’d hate it but it was actually great
Every time I listen to Black Sabbath I expect it to be way better than it actually is.
Great album. Classic. But realistically not five stars
Uninspired riffs and a bad voice
Some really good songs and some really shit songs
Would have been 5 stars if the album ended after the first song
This has some of the stupidest lyrics I’ve ever heard Whole album sounds like it drives a truck and drinks 26 cans of bud light a day
Best album so far. Possibly of the whole website. Possibly ever.
These are the worst lyrics I’ve ever heard. I actively cringed while listening to this.
Started off okay but the last song made me want to rip my ears off
I quite enjoyed it but there are so many more albums that deserve a place on the list rather than this
Idk what I was expecting but I really liked it
This was great, some really excellent songs. Would definitely listen again.
So much better than I was expecting. Pretty varied stuff
Not my thing.
Uncomfortably American. Not his best work.
This was not enjoyable.
Had low expectations but it was great
I hate Kanye and this album isn’t that good either
Really good voice. Feels like some songs are lacking in something but great album anyway
This was nice and would be even better in the right atmosphere
I thought I’d enjoy much more than I did
Didn’t think I’d enjoy Irish folk music this much
Doesn’t sound like the Beach Boys at times, but it was still a great collection of songs
Really liked some songs
I’d rather undergo nine years of medieval torture than ever listen to this shit again
Sounds exactly as I expected Jethro Tull to sound
I expected to love it but didn’t really.
Very mediocre.
Loved the drums on this record
One of the more pretentious albums on this list.
Started off nice but got boring
Loved it, such a great artist and performer.
Bit of a snore
I respect the man as an artist but this wasn’t hugely my thing
This had some good songs but most of it doesn’t do it for me
God this is boring. So dreary and inmemorable.
Painful
I was disappointed by the last Kinks album I listened to, so didn’t have high expectations for this one. But it was a masterpiece.
Solid album with a few classics
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would but didn’t evoke any strong emotions
How does one make a 5 minute song and it go absolutely nowhere for its entire playthrough?
This had some really good songs
Fucking horrendous lyrics, instrumentals, and singing (?)
This absolutely did not need to be an hour long
Legendary. Feel blessed to have seen him live in the action
Haven’t really heard anything like it before
Some good beats but there was almost no variation throughout the songs
I’d heard of The Specials before but never really listened to them. This was great though, huge respect to the bass player
Idk why this is rated so low, there are some fantastic songs in here
Some pretty innovative songs but not really my thing
Some songs might be bearable if the singer just shut the fuck up. But this probably wouldn’t be the case, because they’re a boring band.
Any album with the Flea/Frusciante duo is an obvious 5/5. Would be 6/5 had Quixoticelixer been kept on
Great funk collection
It was alright but there’s nothing notable about it
There is nothing significant about this at all; it’s a cleverly manufactured money grab which somehow appeals to seemingly everyone on Planet Earth. Absolutely no variation in song length, lyrical theme, or musical technique which might make it interesting. The heavily autotuned singing and perfect production rips this album of all soul and human-ness, creating a product rather than a piece of art. The incredibly simple lyrics result in zero thought required to interpret what the song may be about and offers no chance at a thoughtful discussion. This is undeniably a boring experience. Thoughts and prayers go out to all those albums which are filled with talent and musicality and didn’t make the list because the writer of this book probably felt obliged to include a Taylor Swift album to lower the risk of getting attacked by Swifties.
I just love reggae. He’s the man!
Incredibly tight band and a great performer
You can hear the influence from The Clash, Ramones, Sex Pistols, and, interestingly, jazz. I’m impressed with how varied the basslines are for a punk band; sold album.
This had some really nice guitar in it, especially near the beginning. Very passionate and emotional and overall a good album.
Oh my god please shut up
The second song was great but nothing memorable on the album from there
Classic. Nothing better than a bit of reggae.
Nothing to say about this. It just sort of exists.
Once the generator has produced the 1000th 90s hip hop album, you start to think ‘who gives a shit?’
Amazing. The title track is so different from the rest of the album but I’ve never heard a song with more emotion
Some parts were good but you can’t credit Justice for any of them
I actually preferred this to Back to Black. If it was about 20 minutes shorter it would be close to perfect
This was great, especially for its time. Foreshadowing Clapton’s better work to come
It started off fairly good, but since every song sounds the bloody same it got incredibly tedious and predictable very quickly
Classic. One of the most influential and important albums ever. Pretty dreadful musicians but still a great record
Boring
Nice for its time but that was 60 years ago
Impossible not to love; classic after classic
Bucket of shite
Great voice, great backing band
Great songs, unfortunately difficult to listen to as he isn’t on Spotify
It was alright but nothing special
How are snoozefests like this on the list but so many amazing albums like Combat Rock, Wheels of Fire, and Rejuvenation are totally ignored?
Thought this would just be more shit 60s folk, but it was amazing. Wonderful bass playing
Classic after classic after classic after classic after classic after classic after classic after classic
This mostly felt like background music; in most songs there were some really good vocal melodies which only lasted a short amount of time. I think in a better atmosphere I’d enjoy it more
Shit
Boring as hell
Fucking hell
Consistently good with one standout track (see album title)
God this was so boring. This is one of the greatest bands ever? Every song sounded identical and equally shit
I can respect his genius but not really my thing
Sort of disappointed because I knew and liked Smooth Operator but the rest of it felt like background music; I spent most the time focusing on the bass which is interesting because it wasn’t exactly mind blowing. Album overall wasn’t too bad.
I can see why people like it but it seems pretty mediocre to me
I was expecting another generic boring 40 minutes of the exact same song over and over but this was one of the best hip hop albums I’ve heard so far
Amazing, I’ve listened to it about 6 times in the past 2 days; emotionally expressed very well and I was shocked to find out this was their debut
Basically a greatest hits album. Incredible production and instrumentals
This is so fucking boring
Take away the title track and no one would even whisper a single word of praise about this
Did have very high expectations but I really liked most of it
Fairly boring but some songs were quite good
Can’t believe I’ve never heard this in full before; found lots of great new songs - it’s just impossible to dislike his music
Sounds like every song was made for a pretentious film
A few good parts every so often but this aged pretty badly
Words cannot describe how much I wanted this to end
Great record, full of soul
This had a few good songs but I preferred the other Common album
It was alright but definitely not a vital inclusion on this list
Greatest pure punk album ever. No one matches the genius of Strummer and Jones
In terms of Coldplay, not bad. Unfortunately Coldplay is generally bad though
Didn’t satisfy me
Tried to pay attention but it got boring quite quickly
Comically shit in some places. Pretentious in others. I’ll give it a 2 because I liked one song
I feel like they’re good musicians but unable to make more than one good song per album it seems
I really really hate this singing voice
Appreciate its uniqueness but can’t say I really enjoyed any song
Not sure why so many people absolutely hate country. Some of these songs are stupid, but overall pretty fun
Got a good country album yesterday but this is not nearly as good
Hair metal is probably the stupidest genre to ever enter this earth
Had a lot of great songs but unfortunately didn’t really flow that well as an album
Unbeatable. Can’t even begin to compare him to anyone.
G. E. Clinton, King of Funk. Impossible not to groove for the whole 38 minutes
Bruce Springsteen does nothing for me; mediocre country-rock.
Nice chill music on a Wednesday morning
This is a perfect example of 80s shit which has aged terribly and probably didn’t sound very good in the first place. I respect Prince but this bored me to tears
Most 80s thing ever
Don’t really know what’s going on here
Full of emotion and great instrumentals; love the bass and its tone and not surprised to find out it’s Jack Bruce playing!
Yet another unoriginal 80s clone which is nothing more than *fine*
No amount of words can give justice to this. Perfect in every way
Nice chill background music
Absolutely horrible. Couldn’t make it more than 3 songs without needing to grab the sick bucket
Soppy shit
No way this is Radiohead. Sounds like some poorly created electronic music on Garage Band
Fun and high energy
Talented musicians but truly no reason for a song to be 23 minutes long. Don’t need to say anything about Feedback either, that speaks for itself
Terribly boring listen. I supposed it’s ok
At first I was going to rate this 4, but after thinking about it there isn’t a single notable song. I think it’s merely tolerable which gives the impression of it being good, but in reality it’s just Fine.
Nothing interesting or original about this
Definitely could live without hearing this
Absolute classic. Hit after hit, fantastically influential
Zoned out for the whole thing. Clearly wasn’t anything that notably bad or great then
Unusually this got better as it went on, still nothing amazing
Pretty good
This album crossed about 75 genres; definitely made for a unique listen but to be honest I really have no idea what I’m listening to
Bored me to death
Good, wasn’t very Pinky Floyd-y but enjoyed it
Some excellent songs but others really not. However it was better than I first perceived before listening
Some good songs but a very grating voice
Not quite Supergrass but still Prettygoodgrass
Fun but not very impressive
Some good songs and covers but not really a country fan
Shit
Nothing notable
Not sure how to explain this album, just a generally very annoying record. I feel obliged to like Prince’s music but I really hate it
Very nice
Cool but not really my thing
I was surprised at how high the rating was for this, since I thought that Rage Against the Machine was sort of a joke band, but this was so good. Great playing by Tim Commerford
Not my thing
I usually like jazz but this really didn’t do it for me unfortunately
Christ
Classic. Solidified the fact that Paul McCartney is an insanely good bassist.
Breaking the Law has a pretty sick riff but other than that nothing very notable
Definitely different to most electronic albums on here, but I probably wouldn’t listen again
Not at all what I was expecting but I liked it a lot
Since I’ve Been Loving You and Tangerine surely give it 5 stars already - all 4 members are one of the greatest of their chosen craft, making for an insane amount of talent concentrated in just 45 minutes
Got some bangers like I Shot the Sheriff and Let it Grow but I feel like he has better albums, for example Slowhand
This was a pretty great record, had never heard about it or Dr John before but it had a nice chill vibe
Great album, Neil Young is a talented but somewhat underrated songwriter
Chill. So chill that I forgot that I was listening to it… bit boring
I like the chill vibes but it got boring after a while
Lives up to the name for sure
Some good blues rock
Enjoyed the first song but the rest felt the same
Was excited to listen but was disappointed by how boring it was
Respect him but this bored me
Wow I’ve never heard of these guys or any of their songs but some are brilliant
Great songs but bloated
So damn funky
Couple good songs but the rest was mostly forgettable
About as bad as their name
A couple songs which stood out but overall too much filler
Not necessarily bad, but this has very little identity; also don’t see how it’s jazz
Give me one reason why this should be on the list
Not very many necessarily bad songs, but every one sounded the same
Great load of songs, I should listen to more Pulp
Gotta get myself to Senegal, they make some good shit. This was amazing
Very chill and impressive guitar playing, never listened to him much before this
I can recognise each of the guys’ individual talents but their songs just don’t click with me
Boring song structure, goes nowhere, produced to perfection that the soul gets ripped out. Still better than most pop
American rap is just so much better
Half of it was great songs, other half was forgettable
Classic soul, great voice
Great bit of reggae with interesting lyrics
Not bad but nothing worthy of noting
I disliked it at first but it was okay as it progressed
Absolute monster of a debut
Just can’t do Queen
Not even their best album and it’s still filled with bangers
Huge amounts of energy, great guy
Nothing stands out, just sort of exists without much personality. Very generic and meh.
Good grooves but nothing spectacular
Some good songs but mainly forgettable
So cool, jazzy, funky. Best kind of music
I think I need to be in the right atmosphere to really enjoy this, a bit hit or miss
Not a country fan but this was amazing, managed to create a great atmosphere while in a prison
Only a couple moments which I thought were good
Unoriginal
Boring
Call me young and foolish, but Bob Dylan just bores me. Where’s Jimi’s version?
So funky, great bass, the one and only Larry Graham
Forgettable
It’s ok, probably some of the better 80s glam. I feel there is a lack of energy though
More than just a pop album I think - lots of interesting techniques like slap bass and harmonics which made it a far more exciting listen
Great, not entirely sure what the 10 minute speech was all about though
Great rhythms and impossible not to bop your head to everything
Very good, similar but different to other 90s/00s hip hop
Had higher hopes than this - I’ve definitely heard some Ellington which I enjoyed a lot more than this
Waste of time
Was excited by this because it was grunge but this is bottom tier grunge for me. Not necessarily bad but just boring
Definitely a Christmas album
I was listening to this for what felt like almost an hour, and I was only on the THIRD SONG? Losing my mind listening to this shit
World’s most boring album
Enjoyed the chill vibe
This isn’t even their greatest album but it’s still a masterpiece - the playing between Andy and Johnny can’t be beaten
The first time I listened to this was about a year ago and was disappointed, but now after listening again it’s a bona fide classic.
Sunday Bloody Sunday was excellent but the rest bored me
I think you have to be in the right mood to enjoy this, glad I was
George Clinton can’t go wrong
Bored me immensely
Better than I was expecting, had no idea this was Stills from CSNY
Great album, doesn’t compare to some of their others though - nothing particularly mind blowing on here
Particularly groovy
Boring
One of the greatest and most influential musicians in history - sounds very 60s but simultaneously so ahead of its time
Boring. Waste of time.
I knew the first 2 songs but had no idea they were Tracy Chapman - 2 great songs at that, and the rest of the album followed in quality
Can appreciate the fact that it’s on the list but didn’t do much for me
Has better albums but I was still groovin
A bit creepy but had a few good songs
Enjoyed the listen but very forgettable
To be honest I had initially thought that Eddie’s guitar playing was a lot worse than this, but there is still a lot of soulless shredding - don’t understand why everyone gets wet over this. Will never forgive them for popularising hair metal
Couldn’t wait to turn it off. Really pisses me off
Groovy at times
Not a favourite but amusing and definitely worth a listen
I was not expecting such an interesting and experimental record, especially for its time… sometimes it felt like this could have been made in the 80s or 90s
Moronic
Good but as background music
Overall a good quality but totally forgettable
I accidentally played this almost the whole way through for a second time without realising, says a bit
One of the most important acts in music history (makes good songs too)
Could have lived unlimited lives without ever having to listen to this
Way too long, wasn’t bad though
Hasn’t got much to it
Never really listened to Thin Lizzy before, this was a good start. Nice bass tone
Absolute classic by one of the greatest bands ever
Don’t see the point in this at all
I only knew one R.E.M. song before this (Losing My Religion) and it probably should've stayed like that... this didn't blow me away
One great song but irritating vocals
Only 36 minutes and it’s still far too long
Got halfway through. Just didn't need to hear any more, I was close to losing my mind
Background music, but not unpleasant background music
Good songwriting, some solid basslines, overall a great listen. Set the level for post punk
Definitely not metal but I really enjoyed some songs. However it suffers from whiney vocals like a lot of bands from this era
A lot less insufferable than I was expecting; had some nice instrumental
Incredibly boring, everything sounded the same
I hadn’t properly listened to much of Lou Reed before this, but he’s a great songwriter with good tunes
I have tried so very hard to enjoy listening to Radiohead and have failed yet again
I can name at least 1001 albums more worthy of listening to
Well written songs and tasty basslines
She has a very good voice but in the end it is just a generic pop album which I feel like I’ve listened to 10,000 times
Did nothing for me
Really shit, every song is identical
Groovy
Truly awful, personalityless, garbage
I took a short break from this website and this was the first album I listened to after coming back. Although better than I was expecting, this is still a disappointing album. Not much to it, very similar sounding songs but I suppose there isn’t anything terrible about it.
Great album to chill to
Got some classics on here but doesn’t compare to some of their other stuff
Good energy but can’t see myself listening to that again
Didn’t expect to enjoy this at all but it set such a great atmosphere
I had high hopes after the first song but unfortunately the rest didn’t really live up to it. Still a good record though
Hot tamales and they’re red hot yeeeeeeah she got em for sale
Not my favourite Curtis Mayfield record but he’s still one of the best
