I didn't love this album at first but it substantially grew on me as I listened to tracks such as Feeling Yourself Disintegrate, Waiting for a Superman and A Spoonful Weighs a Ton. The first on the list especially moves me and I think that this album has great replay value.

While well made and I'm grateful that this album gave us the song Hurt that was covered even better by Johnny Cash, much of it is just far too vulgar, nihilistic etc. for its' own good. I regret hearing songs such as Closer and Big Man With A Gun and would warn people against listening to most of this album. The NIN album Fragile is a much better balanced reflection on darkness in my opinion.

It's okay, it references Lynyrd Skynyrd too much for my taste to tell the coherent story it wants to tell but it does have some creative highlights and is fascinatingly ambitious. The Dirty South is a far better album in my opinion. I would prefer for the band to not use the gd slur in a few of their songs and I find this disappointing.

I'm not a big fan of rap and hip hop and wasn't expecting much from this recommended album when I first saw it but boy was I wrong. I wish that many of these tracks were more well known anthems, especially As Television the Drug of the Nation and Everyday Life As Become A Health Risk are more relevant now than ever and I couldn't word these societal issues any better myself than citing lyrics from these songs themselves. It's too bad that rap/hip hop has for the most part lost it's roots in this kind of social messaging and conscience. Why can't more rap/hip hop be like this?

I skipped the song For Free? because it was gratuitously vulgar in my opinion but the rest of this album is fantastic. It's a great blend of jazz, hip-hop, fusion, rap and soul that I was very impressed with. The social commentary on the album truly moved me and has sat in my head like coins dropped in a wishing well ever since, which is what socially conscious hip-hop was originally released to do. Though it's explicit and more so than what I would usually listen to it's a rough, honest and mature album without glorifying vulgarity or immorality for most of its entirety. My favorite songs are How Much A Dollar Cost, For Sale? and Hood Politics.

I'd recommend skipping the song Three Minute Rule because of its' vulgarity but the other full length songs on the album are great listens. Paul's Boutique is a great mix of hip hop, rap, soft rock, hard rock, blues sounds and electronic music with some truly hyper aware, non linear and precise production to carry this wide color palate selection. Many highlight songs such as The Sounds of Science and Shadrach show how these guys dimensions far deeper than the frat boy images their most well known for.I'd say that I haven't heard any rap/hip hop quite as flexibly eclectic as Paul's Boutique and it's a listen that pleasantly surprised me for the most part.

There are some songs on here such as Custard Pie and Sick Again that are too sexually charged for my taste(I don't like these type of Zeppelin songs) but the rest of these songs are incredibly well written and have great, intricate creative storytelling that soars above and beyond what most rock bands have attempted.

It's a fun, if somewhat standard, bluesy, soft rock album. What I found strange was how the slight majority of the songs on this album are not available to listen to on Spotify and I hope that this changes soon. Many of the later song compilations on Spotify, however, have songs that hold up even better than their debut album so I'm glad that I could be pushed to discovering more of their catalog at least.
