Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Another lovely album. Especially love the 7 O'Clock News / Silent Night, Phoebe Bridgers did an incredible take on this song as well, and I never knew that it was a cover of this track. It's like a time capsule into the controversies and events of the '60s in the US.

Reading the reviews for this you'd think this is some generic, listen to it once and forget it album, but honestly I don't see the issues people have with this. It's a well-written, well-produced modern r&b album, and a lot of the reviews here are one step removed from "back in my day" commentary. Y'all exclusively listen to the type of music that dominates this list and it's showing in these reviews.

Yep this might just be the greatest of all time. Every track makes you feel something, and on top of that it's also just incredible music.
5/5
Neil Young
4/5
Very pleasant listen, with nice guitars sprinkled in. I could tell some of my favorite albums were inspired by this.
4/5
Siouxsie And The Banshees
2/5
The guitars here were very interesting, and the vocals feel very representative of the era in which the album was released. Overall though, this does not leave much of a lasting impression.

Ian Dury

I can't believe what I'm hearing here???? The entire album sounds like it comes from some 2am sketch comedy show that's trying a little tooo hard to be goofy. The singing got boring after exactly 2/5ths of the first song, the instrumentals are decent enough, but do absolutely nothing to inspire any kind of emotion.
Bro is YAPPINGGGG
Can he PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE JUST STOP YELLING?? Two songs in a row where he's just SCREAMING THE SAME WORD because he can't end a song or something??? 😭

I wasn't really paying attention but this still got me boppin in my seat, love the guitars here :) some of the songs felt like a more rock-oriented, more theatrical version of Radiohead (if that's even possible)
3/5
De La Soul
4/5
This album is perfectly on the line between goofy and extremely enjoyable. The drums are immaculate and I was bopping all the way through.
4/5
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
Musically this was pretty cool, but there's no way I can ever take these vocals seriously man, it sounds like goofy karaoke or something lmao. And then they go and pop in a poem near the end where he sounds all cool and stuff.
2/5
Ms. Dynamite
2/5
Definitely not bad, and VERY 2000s, but I think I kinda heard it all about 20 minutes in
Those two minutes of silence on the final track were also definitely not needed, though that second half was probably my favorite part of the album
2/5
Jefferson Airplane
3/5
Not something I would listen to more often, but a pretty nice listen
3/5
Talking Heads
3/5
Yeah kinda liked it, sometimes a little repetitive but not in an annoying way.

I can hear that a lot of today's music is inspired by this era, but I don't really understand what's special about this one.
2/5
Pixies

This isn't bossa nova but I'm really not all that mad about it
3/5
Eminem
3/5
As background music I think it's fine, but man did this NOT age well once you start paying only a little bit of attention to the lyrics.
Musically it's probably a 4/5, the lyrics are more like a 2/5 though..
3/5
Shuggie Otis
3/5
I wasn't really paying attention but I liked what I heard
3/5
Buzzcocks
1/5
I have to say I'm kind of over the whole "Punk with British dudes not-quite-yelling around it" The instrumentation got repetitive by the sixth track, and nothing here really inspired much of anything for me.
"I hate modern music/Disco, boogie, pop/They go on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on/How I wish they would stop." - Sang at the end of a song that went on and on and on and on and on with the exact same guitar riff throughout all of it, with the most basic of basic melodies. Couldn't have written it better myself.
1/5
Faith No More
2/5
I have to commend it for blending so many styles and sounds and still feeling like a hard rock album, but it's not really my jam.
2/5
Big Brother & The Holding Company
3/5
Not something I'd seek out, but I definitely didn't mind having it on. Quite a fan of some of the guitar parts.
3/5
Lynyrd Skynyrd

All in all it's probably a 3/5 but I like Free Bird quite a lot so it gets bumped up.

2/5
Bee Gees
3/5
This didn't really feel like a cohesive album, but there were some cool elements in there I guess. Not what I expected at all.
3/5
Queen
3/5
It's definitely Queen, but it's missing that last little bit of Queen factor to reaally be Queen.
3/5
Jethro Tull
4/5
I thought the cover man was kinda yucky and then the song man was yuckier. Yuck.
Good album though
4/5
The Electric Prunes

The Prodigy
2/5
This got old somewhere around track 4
2/5
Pink Floyd
4/5
Some artists write 40 minute albums that get boring 10 minutes in, Pink Floyd wrote 80 minutes that were engaging the whole way through.
Comfortably Numb is an absolute masterpiece.
4/5
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
These guys sure know how to make music huh?

4/5
Definitely enjoyed this one! Not something I'd actively listen to, but a really good vibe to have on while working on other things.
4/5
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
This is the total opposite of what I'd usually listen to but man I really quite like this. A little to much of the same maybe, but it's also pretty short so it doesn't feel extreme.
4/5
Johnny Cash
4/5
Really liked most of the stuff on here. A little front-heavy, but nothing much to complain about otherwise.
4/5
Bob Dylan
4/5
Took some time before I really started to enjoy it, but it's undeniably a strong Bob Dylan album.
3/5
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
1/5
Eric Clapton is a knob and this album did nothing to change my mind about that
1/5
5/5
I really like this album
5/5
Iron Maiden
4/5
The vibe I always got from this band is so different from what their music sounds like, which is good for me because I like the music a lot more than I expected too.
The Stooges
2/5
I didn't hate this, but I also wouldn't listen to this again.
2/5
Frank Sinatra
3/5
A nice relaxing background album
3/5
Eagles
3/5
The title track is eaaasily the best song here, and there isn't really anything special on the rest of the album. Despite that I did quite enjoy listening to this, maybe because I already knew some of the tracks, or because the tracks made for a pretty cohesive whole.
Kinda undecided whether it's a 3 or a 4, so I'll say 3,49 and round down.
The Smiths
2/5
A collection of songs that made me feel a lot of nothing in particular
2/5
Kanye West

Thorn of Crowns has got to be the song that made me go "huh?" the most a song has ever made me go "huh?"
Besides that, this is some pretty decent music 👍
3/5
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
2/5
Most songs on here are pretty short, which I'm normally not really a fan of, but in this case I didn't mind it at all.

The Flaming Lips
3/5
Suede
2/5
I get that this list was made by Brits but wow I never expected to hear THIS many people sing in an English accent when I started this list.
A lot of these britpop albums really aren't bad at all, but I've been served quite a few of them at this point, and a lot of them just feel really unremarkable.
Spiritualized
3/5
There were some goofy moments, and I'm not the biggest fan of the singing here, but overall this was pretty good.
Taylor Swift
5/5
Hell yeah dude. This is peak pop music and nobody is going to tell me otherwise.
Michael Kiwanuka
4/5
Iggy Pop
3/5
Jorge Ben Jor
4/5
I really liked the monkey instrument
Radiohead
5/5
Absolutely incredible all the way through. The music manages to be unsettling or uncomfortable at times, while still being pleasant to listen to (for me). It's not everybody's cup of tea and some of the tracks are kind of out there, and I don't think I'd ever recommend this to someone whose music taste I'm not familiar with.
That being said, How to Disappear Completely is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Beastie Boys
2/5
Mistook this for the Beach Boys at first. That confusion didn't last very long.
Beastie Boys
3/5
My last album was also by the Beastie Boys and deep down I still wish it said the Beach Boys instead.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Boutta go hug a gator
The Modern Lovers
2/5
Suzanne Vega
3/5
Started off pretty nice, but ended up being a lot of the same.
Coldplay
4/5
The highs on this album are pretty high, and it's far better than anything they've done recently. I would have liked some more variation, or just some more energy at some points of the album, but overall this was a really solid album.
Green Day
3/5
Honestly expected a little more from such a revered record. I thoroughly enjoyed the more energetic punk tracks, but the production on the more quiet parts kind of ruined those moments for me. I either had to turn up my volume in order to understand what was being said and get slapped in the face when the guitars came back in, or just kind of sit there waiting for the music to pick up again.
James Brown
3/5
I wish artists still released live albums. This one wasn't particularly special to me, but the atmosphere was great and it's fun hearing artists perform live.
KISS
2/5
How did they ever get the idea to make THIS their aesthetic while making music my parents would listen to?
Elton John
4/5
Absolutely iconic
The Notorious B.I.G.
4/5
It's an absolute classic, but doesn't have enough big hitters to justify being this long.
The Smiths
2/5
I guess I enjoyed this more than the last Smiths record I got, which isn't a low bar to clear, but at least they didn't trip over it.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
SZA
4/5
Reading the reviews for this you'd think this is some generic, listen to it once and forget it album, but honestly I don't see the issues people have with this. It's a well-written, well-produced modern r&b album, and a lot of the reviews here are one step removed from "back in my day" commentary. Y'all exclusively listen to the type of music that dominates this list and it's showing in these reviews.
The B-52's
2/5
It's crazy to me how so many modern albums get criticized for lacking variety, having bland lyrics, being overproduced, etc., only for people to rave about Rock Lobster in the reviews here. There must be some joke I'm missing because the discrepancy in ratings between some albums cannot be real
CHIC
4/5
Absolutely incredible guitar and bass playing that makes you groove throughout the entire album. Some of the tracks definitely go on for too long, though.

The Sonics
3/5
B.B. King
4/5

A lot of incredibly iconic Christmas songs, of which my favorite recordings are not part of this album

4/5
I understand Apple Music a little better now.
Also another case of "great album that deserves better scores on this website than it has, but won't get them because it's not a rock album from the 70's or 80's or whatever"
Curtis Mayfield
3/5

2/5

I have to say I didn't expect a band called "The Darkness" to be singing in falsetto about someone they liked in high school.
George Jones

Beatles
5/5
A universally revered album, and rightfully so.
Sex Pistols
2/5
I just know some 60 year old plays this on a Saturday thinking he's the shit.
Queen
4/5
I'm convinced there's a movie script hidden away somewhere to go along with this album.
G. Love & Special Sauce
2/5
I felt like I didn't need to be listening to constipated singing/rapping/yapping? for an hour today. Then I listened to this album and now I know that my feelings were correct.
The Killers
4/5
The most British sounding group of Americans I can think of.
Liked the album overall, especially the first half. I do think it goes on for a little bit too long without really giving you anything new on the second half.

Bob Dylan
5/5
His voice is definitely something of an acquired taste, and if you can't get over it I totally understand not liking this album. I've grown to appreciate it, though, and with it the incredible songwriting that Bob Dylan showcases on his best albums. I think he strikes a perfect balance between cutting lyrics with social critiques, and making music that is just nice and pleasant to listen to.

I can't say I usually enjoy this type of music too much, but this album just has something that puts it apart for me. Enjoyed this a lot more than I expected.
CHIC
4/5
I can't say I ever heard any CHIC apart from "C'est Chic", which included what is probably their most well-known track, as well as some other tracks I immediately recognized. As a whole, though, I may have enjoyed this album more than their previous one. The songs don't seem to drag on as much, and offer a more pleasant total picture. I'm not sure if it works as well in a proper disco, but when I'm sitting down and picking an album to listen to, Risqué would win out for sure.

What a queen. I have definitely heard some of these songs too many times at this point, but I can hardly blame the album for that. I was surprised by the lesser-known tracks here, which were also very enjoyable. Although some parts come across as too polished or safe, I still think this is a great record.
