Boutta go hug a gator
Another lovely album. Especially love the 7 O'Clock News / Silent Night, Phoebe Bridgers did an incredible take on this song as well, and I never knew that it was a cover of this track. It's like a time capsule into the controversies and events of the '60s in the US. 4/5
Reading the reviews for this you'd think this is some generic, listen to it once and forget it album, but honestly I don't see the issues people have with this. It's a well-written, well-produced modern r&b album, and a lot of the reviews here are one step removed from "back in my day" commentary. Y'all exclusively listen to the type of music that dominates this list and it's showing in these reviews.
This took me back to early 2010s when I was a terminally online kid I can't say I appreciated that all too much
What a vibe, boppin all the way through - 4/5
My mom would listen to this 3/5
I was kinda vibing but I Want You Now fully killed the mood lol 3/5
That was really good 5/5
Yep this might just be the greatest of all time. Every track makes you feel something, and on top of that it's also just incredible music. 5/5
Very pleasant listen, with nice guitars sprinkled in. I could tell some of my favorite albums were inspired by this. 4/5
The guitars here were very interesting, and the vocals feel very representative of the era in which the album was released. Overall though, this does not leave much of a lasting impression. 2/5
I can't believe what I'm hearing here???? The entire album sounds like it comes from some 2am sketch comedy show that's trying a little tooo hard to be goofy. The singing got boring after exactly 2/5ths of the first song, the instrumentals are decent enough, but do absolutely nothing to inspire any kind of emotion. Bro is YAPPINGGGG Can he PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE JUST STOP YELLING?? Two songs in a row where he's just SCREAMING THE SAME WORD because he can't end a song or something??? 😭 1/5
This was fine I guess 2/5
Simply simply lovely 4/5
I wasn't really paying attention but this still got me boppin in my seat, love the guitars here :) some of the songs felt like a more rock-oriented, more theatrical version of Radiohead (if that's even possible) 3/5
This album is perfectly on the line between goofy and extremely enjoyable. The drums are immaculate and I was bopping all the way through. 4/5
Musically this was pretty cool, but there's no way I can ever take these vocals seriously man, it sounds like goofy karaoke or something lmao. And then they go and pop in a poem near the end where he sounds all cool and stuff. 2/5
Definitely not bad, and VERY 2000s, but I think I kinda heard it all about 20 minutes in Those two minutes of silence on the final track were also definitely not needed, though that second half was probably my favorite part of the album 2/5
Not something I would listen to more often, but a pretty nice listen 3/5
Yeah kinda liked it, sometimes a little repetitive but not in an annoying way. 3/5
Nothing really stood out to me, but it was a nice listen 3/5
Soo nice, really loved the interplay between the guitar and horns. May have become one of my favorite instrumental albums. 4/5
I can hear that a lot of today's music is inspired by this era, but I don't really understand what's special about this one. 2/5
This isn't bossa nova but I'm really not all that mad about it 3/5
As background music I think it's fine, but man did this NOT age well once you start paying only a little bit of attention to the lyrics. Musically it's probably a 4/5, the lyrics are more like a 2/5 though.. 3/5
I wasn't really paying attention but I liked what I heard 3/5
I have to say I'm kind of over the whole "Punk with British dudes not-quite-yelling around it" The instrumentation got repetitive by the sixth track, and nothing here really inspired much of anything for me. "I hate modern music/Disco, boogie, pop/They go on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on/How I wish they would stop." - Sang at the end of a song that went on and on and on and on and on with the exact same guitar riff throughout all of it, with the most basic of basic melodies. Couldn't have written it better myself. 1/5
I have to commend it for blending so many styles and sounds and still feeling like a hard rock album, but it's not really my jam. 2/5
Not something I'd seek out, but I definitely didn't mind having it on. Quite a fan of some of the guitar parts. 3/5
All in all it's probably a 3/5 but I like Free Bird quite a lot so it gets bumped up. 4/5
Idk wasn't really it for me They have a cool name though🤷 2/5
Incredible. 5/5
Pretty cooooollll 3/5
Really fun indie-rock album, felt like it dragged on a little bit halfway through, but I enjoyed listening to it 👍 3/5
Really enjoyed this! Wasn't really paying attention to the lyrics, but there were some really cool melody lines or other surprises that kept the album interesting. 4/5
Nothing too special I don't think. But not boring either. Nice one to start the day. 3/5
3/5 idk
I'm definitely going back to this one in the future 4/5
This album doesn't sound like the way Willie Nelson looks 4/5
Like I get that it's pretty good rock music, but I don't think it's for me. 3/5
I liked this a LOT more than I thought I would have 4/5
I reaallly wish this was longer. Loved it <3 5/5
Another lovely album. Especially love the 7 O'Clock News / Silent Night, Phoebe Bridgers did an incredible take on this song as well, and I never knew that it was a cover of this track. It's like a time capsule into the controversies and events of the '60s in the US. 4/5
Funcc. 4/5
I wasn't too big on Imagine the song and I gotta say I'm definitely no bigger on the rest of the album 2/5
Je ne parle pas Français 3/5
I don't think this is music that will ever make me think "I should listen to this right now", but I did enjoy it and I like his voice. 3/5
This felt like I was watching a musical. I don't remember most of it. 3/5
That was pretty cool I liked it 3/5
Yeh 3/5
Some cool old school with some advertisement music sprinkled in 3/5
Started stronger than it ended, loved the bass. 3/5
I don't really want to listen to this
Amazingly funky, was grooving all throughout the album. 5/5
Really fun album! 4/5
I could've sworn I felt it coming in the air tonight 4/5
Nothing too special idk 2/5
This didn't really feel like a cohesive album, but there were some cool elements in there I guess. Not what I expected at all. 3/5
It's definitely Queen, but it's missing that last little bit of Queen factor to reaally be Queen. 3/5
I thought the cover man was kinda yucky and then the song man was yuckier. Yuck. Good album though 4/5
Preetty cool 3/5
This got old somewhere around track 4 2/5
Some artists write 40 minute albums that get boring 10 minutes in, Pink Floyd wrote 80 minutes that were engaging the whole way through. Comfortably Numb is an absolute masterpiece. 4/5
These guys sure know how to make music huh? 4/5
What a bop. I think you can put anything Nile Rodgers worked on in front of me and I'd like it. 4/5
3/5
Definitely enjoyed this one! Not something I'd actively listen to, but a really good vibe to have on while working on other things. 4/5
This is the total opposite of what I'd usually listen to but man I really quite like this. A little to much of the same maybe, but it's also pretty short so it doesn't feel extreme. 4/5
Really liked most of the stuff on here. A little front-heavy, but nothing much to complain about otherwise. 4/5
Not the best I've heard from him, but enjoyable nonetheless. 3/5
Eric Clapton is a knob and this album did nothing to change my mind about that 1/5
I really like this album 5/5
The vibe I always got from this band is so different from what their music sounds like, which is good for me because I like the music a lot more than I expected too.
I didn't hate this, but I also wouldn't listen to this again. 2/5
A nice relaxing background album 3/5
The title track is eaaasily the best song here, and there isn't really anything special on the rest of the album. Despite that I did quite enjoy listening to this, maybe because I already knew some of the tracks, or because the tracks made for a pretty cohesive whole. Kinda undecided whether it's a 3 or a 4, so I'll say 3,49 and round down.
A collection of songs that made me feel a lot of nothing in particular 2/5
Ew Kanye 1/5
Wasn't really paying attention but I kinda liked what I heard. 3/5
I don't know if it was because of the youtube upload I listened to, but this sounded like there really wasn't all too much happening throughout. 2/5
Loved the harmonies and vibes on this one 4/5
Eh not for me I guess 2/5
3/5
Thought the name was pretty fun The album certainly wasn't 2/5
This is like Coldplay if I never liked their music 2/5
Thorn of Crowns has got to be the song that made me go "huh?" the most a song has ever made me go "huh?" Besides that, this is some pretty decent music 👍 3/5
Most songs on here are pretty short, which I'm normally not really a fan of, but in this case I didn't mind it at all. 2/5
That's hard dude 4/5
MILF (man i love folk) 4/5
Didn't hate it, didn't love it 3/5
I didn't know if I was going to like a full ambient album, but this was really nice to listen to. 4/5
Undeniably one of the greatest guitarists of all time
Yeah dude
Nice enough jazz, but a little long for my taste
I mean it's not too bad but it's not for me
Why do they sound soo much more British than on the woo hoo song
I get that this list was made by Brits but wow I never expected to hear THIS many people sing in an English accent when I started this list. A lot of these britpop albums really aren't bad at all, but I've been served quite a few of them at this point, and a lot of them just feel really unremarkable.
There were some goofy moments, and I'm not the biggest fan of the singing here, but overall this was pretty good.
Hell yeah dude. This is peak pop music and nobody is going to tell me otherwise.
I really liked the monkey instrument
Absolutely incredible all the way through. The music manages to be unsettling or uncomfortable at times, while still being pleasant to listen to (for me). It's not everybody's cup of tea and some of the tracks are kind of out there, and I don't think I'd ever recommend this to someone whose music taste I'm not familiar with. That being said, How to Disappear Completely is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Mistook this for the Beach Boys at first. That confusion didn't last very long.
My last album was also by the Beastie Boys and deep down I still wish it said the Beach Boys instead.
Boutta go hug a gator
Started off pretty nice, but ended up being a lot of the same.
The highs on this album are pretty high, and it's far better than anything they've done recently. I would have liked some more variation, or just some more energy at some points of the album, but overall this was a really solid album.
Honestly expected a little more from such a revered record. I thoroughly enjoyed the more energetic punk tracks, but the production on the more quiet parts kind of ruined those moments for me. I either had to turn up my volume in order to understand what was being said and get slapped in the face when the guitars came back in, or just kind of sit there waiting for the music to pick up again.
I wish artists still released live albums. This one wasn't particularly special to me, but the atmosphere was great and it's fun hearing artists perform live.
How did they ever get the idea to make THIS their aesthetic while making music my parents would listen to?
Absolutely iconic
It's an absolute classic, but doesn't have enough big hitters to justify being this long.
I guess I enjoyed this more than the last Smiths record I got, which isn't a low bar to clear, but at least they didn't trip over it.
Reading the reviews for this you'd think this is some generic, listen to it once and forget it album, but honestly I don't see the issues people have with this. It's crazy to me how so many modern albums get criticized for lacking variety, having bland lyrics, being overproduced, etc., only for people to rave about Rock Lobster in the reviews here. There must be some joke I'm missing because the discrepancy in ratings between some albums cannot be real
Absolutely incredible guitar and bass playing that makes you groove throughout the entire album. Some of the tracks definitely go on for too long, though.
I understand Deadheads now
Pff as if I'm going to listen to an hour and 16 minutes of Eric Clapton lol
Started off pretty well, but petered off quite quickly too. Nothing too special but not bad either.
He really lives up to his name
I liked it, but a couple of songs really dragged on for too long in my opinion.
Yeeeeeeee hawt damn I didn't want to finish this
Strange decision to record an audiobook while they're playing rock music next to you, but go off.
