The Zombies
5/5
Great psych/baroque pop album, which I have heard dozens of times in full.

Big Star
5/5
Damn good album in my top 100, probably favorite album of summer of 2019 next to IGOR
1 likes
The Clash
5/5
Very good, not too 40 of all time, as I thought but still top 100 all time for me with a bunch of classic songs and some of my favs like Spanish Bombs. It’s a 9/10
1 likes
Don McLean
2/5
Starts good with "American Pie", "Vincent" and the underrated "Till Tomorrow", but gets boring quick and most of the songs seems worse than the next. 2.5

The Rolling Stones
5/5
Haven’t listened to this in years, but is in my top 10 albums of all time.
Update not top 10 of all time- but still a great record and in my top 50. I mean it’s a double album, but the flow and mood of the album make it 5 stars, not to mention the terrific songs.
Jimmy Smith
2/5
Decent, kind of boring honestly.
Moby
3/5
Decent at points, some songs got me in the feels others were just annoying
The Clash
5/5
Very good, not too 40 of all time, as I thought but still top 100 all time for me with a bunch of classic songs and some of my favs like Spanish Bombs. It’s a 9/10
Michael Kiwanuka
4/5
Very emotional, reminds me a bit of Flower Boy and Blonde. Has a 60s/70s sound that is unique, will listen again. Almost a 8.5
The Cure
1/5
Boring, just slow tempo songs with catchy guitar. The last 2 songs are at least listenable in an album setting- 1 star, if I gave Jimmy smith 2 stars, then this is much worse.
The Who
4/5
Closer to a 4 say a 7.8 with a few amazing songs. But should have included the other singles like "I Can't Explain" and "Anyway Anyhow Anywhere".
Jack White
3/5
3 1/2. Good sound with interesting instrumentation through different genres such as blues and country. However some of the songs are just okay and it falls off in the 2nd half. Would listen again.
System Of A Down
3/5
Ehh not as bad as I thought, might like it more than the second album just because it has more variety in sound. 7
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
I mean it is good, but I am not a fan of Badlands and a few of the other songs. Still I would say a 3.5, not a 4 star album although could be close.
AC/DC
3/5
good classic rock, keeps with one style but is enjoyable and has bangers. Probably closer to a 4 then a 3, but a high 3.5 rating is appropriate.
Van Halen
4/5
Good
Björk
1/5
Weird sounds and at times unlistenable
Public Image Ltd.
1/5
Interesting instrumental sound that was totally unique. But some of these songs suck and I never want to hear them again.
Lorde
2/5
Some decent songs like "Liability", but take the pop radio format and just refine it in an album setting. I get why some people love it, but it isn't my type of music.
Sufjan Stevens
3/5
Very emotional, in fact too emotional but still a good album.
Elliott Smith
5/5
I knew this would be at least 4 stars, but this listen moved me more than before. The beginning is awesome, but the ending with Can’t Make A Sound, The Gondola Man really got to me this time. Some of the acoustic songs aren’t my favorite later on, but those electric ones really hit!!
Love
3/5
Interesting sounds, that leads to the next big album, but the ending jam on the 2nd side isnt needed. I would listen again as it mixes psych, jazz and folk in a cool mixture.
Deee-Lite
1/5
Not good, but "Groove in the Heart" is a banger. 1.5 off that song alone
Big Star
5/5
Damn good album in my top 100, probably favorite album of summer of 2019 next to IGOR
Alanis Morissette
3/5
Good angsty energy with solid songs.
The Cars
5/5
Black Sabbath
4/5
Very good, unique instrumentally and sounds a bit like Jimi Hendrix/Cream.
Robbie Williams
2/5
Ehh boring british pop,
Coldplay
4/5
Definitely could be higher on more listens, but at this point. there is something missing.
Update better on more listens!
Miles Davis
3/5
An album full of tension, but it gets released in the end in a satisfying way
The Clash
3/5
Decent, songs will blend in with each other.
U2
2/5
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
Not as bad, as I thought. Still like 2 and half stars, as it is pretty long.
Joanna Newsom
2/5
Not my style of music, but sounds good and sure is innovative.
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
Amazing album, maybe not as good when I first listened to it, but still incredible.
The Rolling Stones
5/5
Closer to 4.5/5 but still basically a flawless album, though do wish they included "Honky Tonk Women"
Boards of Canada
2/5
Decent album, not my kind of music, but nice and chill. I could use this music to fall
Asleep.
The Style Council
3/5
Plesantly suprised, would be 4 stars if they didn't include a rap.
Eagles
3/5
Not as good as first listen, but still a fun album. "Train Leaves Here This Morning" and "Most of Us are Sad" are really good deep tracks.
The White Stripes
3/5
3.5, good album will listen again. Another solid one by Jack White
David Bowie
3/5
Its not bad, but I would say it is unsettling. - 7. Wish the pop/rock songs weren't all in the beginning, because the album gets a little too dark midway through. You don't need 4 ambient songs. Luckily ends with an ambient/pop mixture on the last song "The Secret Life of Arabia".
Big Brother & The Holding Company
3/5
Another solid album, didn't blow me away, but will listen again.
The Cure
2/5
Felt really long, but had some interesting moments. I liked the ending, 2.5
Genesis
3/5
Long album, maybe too long with a odd story . But has a lot of great songs, would be much better if it was a single album.
Charles Mingus
3/5
a 3 1/2, pleasant listen that alludes mood and melancoly.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
Has some great songs like Johnny Cage, not a fan of the ending.
The Yardbirds
4/5
Haven't listened to this since 2017-18. But a solid album, which shows ahead of its time mix of psych and blues, being that this is from 1966.
Sugar
4/5
good album, enjoyable Alternative rock inspired by Nevermind, but takes it in an indie direction.
Ice T
2/5
Too god damn long, but there are a few good songs like "Midnight"
Cocteau Twins
2/5
okay. Its ambient soundscape definitely influenced albums I like such as Flower Boy and Igor, with how they use the synths.
Steely Dan
5/5
An all timer, that can be annoying if listened to too much due to its grocery store like smooth jazz. But full of classics and amazing playing.
Marianne Faithfull
3/5
Oddly not bad, last song is weird with how it mentions some private things.
Kings of Leon
3/5
2.5- Kind of boring indie-alternative-southern rock, but there are some good songs. Although my family loves early KOL, so I may be being too harsh, based on my upbringing.
Nas
4/5
Used to be five stars, but still amazing. I especially love Halftime and Sittin in da Park with that awesome organ sample.
Electric Light Orchestra
5/5
Amazing album, maybe a little too long and could be rearranged. But I don't know what I would cut.
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
3/5
Very good for the late 50s.
Beck
2/5
Just Boring, probably better on more listens.
Bert Jansch
2/5
Just some nice folk music. 2.5
John Lee Hooker
3/5
Elevator blues and jazz for the first song, but everything else on the 1st side was pretty good. 2nd side falls off, but the last two songs are a nice subtle goodbye. Overall solid.
Kanye West
4/5
One of the best rap albums, does fall off a bit at the end.
Beatles
5/5
Basically The Beatles doing every genre of music flawlessly. Should have ended the album with Hey Jude or Revolution (single version) but hey still 5 stars, 9.9/10
Dolly Parton
2/5
A 2.5, some good country, some stereotypical boring country. Would listen again.
Sparks
4/5
A Glam and Prog Pop mix. Odd vocals, but is catchy. Give it 4 stars, as it surprised me.
2/5
Uncontrollable Urge is good, but this sounds like the B52's and early The Clash had a baby for better or worse. Not my ideal music, but not terrible. 2.5
Radiohead
3/5
Some very good songs, will need to listen again as it can rise to perhaps a 4.
The Who
4/5
Very good live album.
Ramones
4/5
Fun punk album, which sounds a bit power pop. Songs sound the same, but if it works why change it.
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
2/5
Won't listen again, but its not unbearable. It is just average pre-Dylan folk music.
Wilco
4/5
Long... album, but one that I will like on more listens. This is especially considering how their next album "SummerTeeth" is one of my favorites of all time.
Last song sounds like Honky Tonk Women
David Bowie
3/5
really good and it surprised me. I'll give it 4 stars, a sort of melting pot of all the genres that Bowie did during his career.
David Bowie
3/5
Just like his next album Heroes, it starts strong (though this one is better) yet finishes dark and ambient. I find the sound interesting throughout, but wish he could have trimmed down the ambient instrumentals, cause the regular songs to me are awesome.
The Fall
2/5
Decent sounding but nothing to write home about. 2.5
R.E.M.
3/5
Decent, need another listen. Just a plain 3
Skepta
2/5
Okay you could get back 5 minutes with the awful interludes that seem to end most songs, but Shut Down is a bop.
Dusty Springfield
4/5
Guilty pleasure music for me. Just fun and heart felt pop music.
Nick Drake
4/5
Very good 4 1/2 stars, orchestral 70s folk. Could go a lot higher on more listens as it is better than Pink Moon.
Iron Maiden
3/5
I mean great playing, especially on the guitar and drums. They work fast, but in rhythm. Not my type of music, but one I sure damn respect.
The Afghan Whigs
3/5
I'll give it a 2.5- it is grunge but in the way Jeff Buckley's Grace is grunge. Will listen again
Adam & The Ants
3/5
Decent album, starts off pretty strong, but falls off at the end.
Metallica
3/5
Good, but so damn long. I would like it a lot if I liked metal.
Paul Simon
3/5
I give it a 3.5, definitely could grow for me going forward. Nice subtle folk and pop, the masterful way Paul Simon does it.
Madness
2/5
Goofy mix of Ska, Music Hall, Jazz and New Wave. One of the most British albums out there. I will say "Our House" is catchy and much better than I thought, but the rest doesn't peak my interest".
"The album is not on Spotify"
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
3/5
Nice Jazz album, nothing more. Would listen again, as "Take Five" is a great song and this album would be great to put on in the background.
Johnny Cash
4/5
I give it 4 stars, just because of the mood and how cool it is. The music is 3 stars, some classics, but gets a bit boring at times. But to play at a prison and include audio of the prisoners and the people in charge of the prison is unique and damn right cool.
Common
4/5
Better than I thought, nice chill jazzy rap album w/ great samples. Also features Ye (also produces the album) and John Mayer as guests, who kills it.
Franz Ferdinand
3/5
Standard 2004, post punk revival/indie rock album. Not bad, but not really memorable.
OutKast
3/5
Good album, especially with the hits and deep Funkadelic like funk/psychedelic soul in the backend of the album on songs such as "Stankonia". 3.5
The Go-Betweens
2/5
Pretty boring Australian proto indie rock, 2.5
Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
2/5
Interesting sound I will say. If I want to listen to Salsa music, I will put on this album though I don't know when that will happen. 2.5
Dr. Dre
4/5
Fun rap album, the definition of 90s west coast rap.
David Bowie
4/5
Very good album, will need more listens. A unique mix of glam and rock that is hard to classify, but fits into David Bowie's one of a kind ability to always keep you guessing, as you never know what's next.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
I like it, especially the fully focused "Man out of Time". Ending isn't the best, but will listen again- 3.5
Various Artists
4/5
Probably best Christmas album out, with a legendary performance by Darlene Love and The Ronettes
Suede
3/5
I like new generation and some of the other songs, but it’s below Brit pop I haven’t listened to from Oasis and Radiohead. I’ll give in 4 stars because ik it can get there going forward, especially because it is so grand and the ending takes your breath away
Miles Davis
3/5
Just a nice chill jazz album, you can put on in the background. Would listen again!
Fats Domino
2/5
Pretty plain 50s album, closer to a 2.5. I like La La though
Daft Punk
1/5
Very long and annoying (like an edm earworm) , also not my type of music "Around the World" is good, but only needs to be 3 minutes at most!!
Afrika Bambaataa
2/5
2.5- I didn't hate it, nor love it. "Planet Rock" is a fun song that takes me back to NBA 2k7 and the rest was fine for a background listen.
Gotan Project
1/5
Boring world music.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
5/5
Amazing album, the definition of swamp rock, you can just picture yourself near the bayou, eating gumbo and drinking a beer. This is despite the group being from SF. I may be a smidge tired of the hits, but that doesn't take away from the rest of the music, which shows how the band has one of the tighest and grooviest rhythm sections around.
Probably closer to 4.5 (as it feels too short), but i'll give it 5 as it is on my all time list.
Depeche Mode
3/5
I think it is good, especially in the beginning. But the music wears thin at the end. I'll give it 3 stars, although it is a 3.5 but I will listen to this again. Could rise to a 4, especially considering how much I liked it despite it not being one of my favorite genres.
808 State
1/5
How many electronic/dance/triphop albums are on this list.
It sounds fine at times, but then I realize I have 5 more songs like this
Stephen Stills
4/5
A very good record, where you get the full arsenal of Stills. The album has some folky moments ala (CSN/CSNY), gospel infused songwriting and hard rock with killer guitar (guess spot of Hendrix). With only one hit song, the other songs really stand out, shoutout my favorite "To a Flame" and could have been played on the radio. Had to give this 2 listens to fully embrace it and could see myself liking it more on more listens. 4 stars
Queen Latifah
3/5
A low 3 stars, as I like the instrumentals (real jazzy backdrop) and some of the lyrics/flow works well. It also has a spice of Jamaican music to it as well.
But her shitck gets old by the 2nd half, as all her raps sound the same, the album sticks to the same song structure over and over and over again.
The Stooges
4/5
The album is just raw power, a unique mix of proto punk and hard rock. Will listen again.
I'll give it 4 stars, as it is a 3.5 closer to a 4, than a 3.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
3/5
Tom Petty's first album, not as polished as other debut's in terms of songwriting, but you see the potential on legendary tracks "Breakdown" and "American Girl" 3 stars
Hüsker Dü
2/5
Just a bunch of noise rock/ alternative rock, with a slight edge of punk and power pop. Overall not really memorable and too long. 2.5
Oasis
4/5
Four star record, nothing more. There are a bunch of great songs and then a few okay songs, that seem to run in that order.
The Undertones
3/5
Pleasant 60's garage rock influenced power pop/pop punk mix. I really like "Wednesday Week" Will listen again sometime. Low 3 stars
Stan Getz
2/5
"The Girl from Ipanema" is a great song, the rest of the music is listenable, background music. 2.5/5
AC/DC
4/5
Just a classic rock album, what you see is what you get. But it does hit and would be one of the best ones to play at a party. 8
Willie Nelson
4/5
Gorgeous album of "classic pop" songs like the elementary school favorite "Blue Skies". A mix of classic pop, jazz, soul and country. A bit front-heavy, as the schtick wears its course. Still 4/5
Lightning Bolt
2/5
It would be one star, but I was vibing to one or two of these songs. even though this album is just noise rock. Still though won't listen to this again!! 1.5
The Pretty Things
4/5
I love my psychedelic rock! And it doesn't get much better than incorporating some Beatles, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd and hints of the Beach Boys into the music. Each song is different and takes you on a magical ride, will listen again, as this could make my all time list!!
Probably my highest ranked album, of one I haven't listened to till now. 4.5/5
Radiohead
5/5
Flawless album that even when I think I may overrate it, I keep finding new things to enjoy. I will say I recognize more influences on it this listen, taking from David Bowie's berlin period and other electronic albums
Regardless a no doubt- 5/5
George Harrison
5/5
Top 15, maybe 10 album for me all time, no debate. It also has the greatest first side of any album with 3 of my favorite songs of all time "My Sweet Lord", "Wah Wah" and "Isn't it a Pity".
The Byrds
3/5
The crossways between the Byrds earlier jangle pop of Mr Tambourine Man and Turn Turn Turn and the more adventorous stuff on Younger than Yesterday and The Notorius Byrd Brothers. I would give it 4 stars, if the album included the great bonus track "Why", as the first side is stellar psychedelic folk. However the 2nd side loses its luster quick after the best song "Eight Miles High".
2/5
I like enough of the singles, as my buddies enjoy it or at least have fun with it.
But I don't need to hear a full album by Limp Bizkit, especially when it is 75 minutes long. The song with XZBit wasn't bad though, and the references/samples to the Eagles and the Who are coolish. Also who doesn't hate DMX! 2
N.E.R.D
4/5
As a Tyler the Creator fan I really enjoyed this, as I see bits and pieces that influenced some of my favorite songs by him, like "Okaga, CA"
It is a eclectic album, as I hear rap and r&b, but also progressive pop.
Very good definitely will listen again.
Queen
4/5
Better than I thought! Although I still believe it isn't one of the best albums of all time, it is still good. Probably could be a little longer and doesn't help that one song isn't a Queen song in "God Save the Queen".
The music is a unique mix of opera, music hall, hard rock, glam and prog, with a little bit of folk too. 4 stars
Curtis Mayfield
3/5
I'd say average album, not bad but not really that good either. If you want to listen to some real 70s soul/funk in the background, say outside cooking with friends or sharing a beer, then this would be the perfect album.
2.5 but rounding up to 3
Television
3/5
Proto indie rock/ punk album. Not bad will listen again
The Stooges
2/5
Avant Garde
Probably better on more listens, but didn't do much for me.
High 2 or low 2.5
Jah Wobble's Invaders Of The Heart
1/5
Vocals sound like the lead singer of XTC, but music is worldly for lack of better words.
DJ Shadow
1/5
Even though my BIRDS just won the super bowl over the Chiefs, I am still giving this one star. Just wasn't interested
Neil Young
5/5
Great album full of emotion and discontent
Wu-Tang Clan
4/5
Great album, another one of my classic rap albums that I grew up with in high school. Shout out "Cream"
FKA twigs
1/5
No words
Tom Waits
2/5
Just not my thing, but sure is unique. Like an avant garde Bruce Springsteen in my opinion who is influenced by Dr John and the whole New Orleans sound.
David Bowie
3/5
This could definitely get to 4 stars on more listens, but for one listen Bowie's interpretation of Philly Soul/R&B is a 3.5
The Go-Go's
3/5
Good angsty power pop, new wave female rock.
Elbow
3/5
Standard 2000's british alternative rock album inspired by Radiohead and Coldplay
Scott Walker
2/5
Easy listening in the style of Andy Williams, with all the songs sounding one note. Though none of the songs are horrible, they aren’t that memorable either. 2.5
Joy Division
4/5
I will give it 4 stars, because although I don't think it is great, it is probably the best post-punk album I will ever listen to. So that counts for something.
Plus "Disorder" is a bop that was on Skate 3!
Pink Floyd
5/5
I mean, if not for one other pink floyd album, this would be the bands greatest accomplishment.
Soundgarden
4/5
Just a dark dirty album, but gets better each listen.
Frank Ocean
4/5
A phenomenal album that puts you in a specific space while listening, though the next album does all this but to another notch
Kate Bush
1/5
Not my thing at all, last song is okay!
1.5
TV On The Radio
3/5
Just a solid indie rock album with a lot of culture, would listen again
The Temptations
4/5
It is closer to a 3.5, but it sounds so cool for Motown, having that psychedelic swirl. So I will go 4 stars
Beastie Boys
4/5
Not the biggest rap fan, but sample "The End" by the Beatles and your album automatically gets to 4 stars.
Other than that though this album is really good!
Foo Fighters
4/5
A mix of grunge, alternative, hard rock.
Good album, i'll give a four, but its a 3.5 closer
Burning Spear
2/5
Just some regular reggae, but I like how I hear some flutes in a song or two, to add variation. 2.5
Talking Heads
4/5
Best talking heads album I have listened to, quirky yet catchy. cool yet weird.
Fleet Foxes
3/5
It has some stellar songs, but some just don't do it for me. As some have beach boys like harmonies, while others sound like stuff the lumineers would sing. 3.5
Parliament
4/5
In George Clinton's brain, Maggot Brain represents the left side and Mothership Connection represents the right.
Don McLean
2/5
Starts good with "American Pie", "Vincent" and the underrated "Till Tomorrow", but gets boring quick and most of the songs seems worse than the next. 2.5
Tim Buckley
3/5
R&B infused folk album, would listen again as it is a very distinct sound.
3
The Zombies
5/5
Great psych/baroque pop album, which I have heard dozens of times in full.
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
Better than I thought, interesting indie/dance rock hybrid.
John Lennon
4/5
An very good album, showing all sides of John Lennon. almost on my all time list. 4.5/5
Brian Eno
1/5
It is trying to create meaning and "art" through ambience, but all I hear is a bunch of pretentious repetitive sounds.
To each his own, but even this music snob thinks this is awful
.5/5 stars
Bob Marley & The Wailers
5/5
I know every song from my parents love of this album, but it is still great nonetheless.
King Crimson
4/5
I’ll say a 4, because on my first listen I was stunned by this especially the last song. It is so innovative and at times emotional but other times is unemotional. This is all encompassed in this odd avant garde proto metal prog music.
Beatles
4/5
The album that showed the Beatles are here to stay, thanks to excellent song-writing (no covers) and peak energy out of the Fab Four.
T. Rex
4/5
Very good, glam rock album. Really is the standard for glam rock albums.
4.5/5
Air
3/5
It reminds me of a album you would
play in a cocktail lounge. Easy Space Pop Lounge listening with 60s Chamber Pop influences.
Will listen again!
3.5/5
Eminem
3/5
Decent album, with clever wordplay and a gem of a song in "Guilty Conscience". 2.5 but closer to 3
Pentangle
2/5
Standard British Folk album of the late 60s. Sounds very medieval!
high 2/5
Marvin Gaye
4/5
It is like an awakening of sexuality and freedom. 4/5
The Band
5/5
Another one of my favorite albums of all time, that I have heard a million times and probably don't love as much as used to.
But the songs are so good, and the feeling is one of a kind. It is this woodsy/rural type of atmosphere with a sense of doubt and melancholy, engulfed in soul/and a sprinkle of swirling psychedelia.
Quite a masterpiece!
David Crosby
4/5
Good album, sounds like a full album inspired by the song "Deja Vu" by Croz on CSNY's album of the same name.
Van Morrison
5/5
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
ZZ Top
4/5
Fun boogie rock album with a lot of interesting songs.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
2nd best Bob Marley album, with a killer 2nd side! 4.5
Tricky
2/5
Kind of depressing, moody electronic music that starts interesting and moving, but just turns mysterious and eccentric in an annoying and constant loop.
The song "Strugglin" has this awful nails on the chalkboard sample or instrumental
1.5 rounded to 2
The Residents
2/5
Weird album, like early Ween albums but without the occasional melodic song which it is missing! 2/5
Weather Report
4/5
Very good, tremendous playing especially by Jaco Pastorius the bassist. Everyone is top notch and they are all in the pocket with each other. You can just single out each member and focus on their individual playing.
At the same time, the album is cool and kind of relaxing. Puts me in an good mood. Will listen again!
4/5
The Black Keys
3/5
Good 2010's indie rock album, with some catchy hits that I remember, but good variety as well in the deep tracks. 3.5
The Who
5/5
The album takes you on a journey, for better or worse. Being a double album, not all the songs are great and very few stand on their own. But put it all together and it’s nearly flawless
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
Another Dexy album, 2nd in the past two weeks. The album sounds very ska with the horns being the main attraction. None of the songs though are notable.
3/5
Very good electric set, but the acoustic side drags a little.
Blue Cheer
3/5
Good proto-heavy metal album, could listen again! 3-3.5
Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
Prince
4/5
A very good album, that can probably get a higher score on more listens!
PJ Harvey
2/5
Basic grunge album, wasn't bad but wasn't memorable either
Merle Haggard
3/5
Pretty interesting country album, I'll say. Good change in songs, as each sound fairly different. high 3 stars
Beatles
5/5
A ground-breaking album that sees the Beatles stretching the boundaries of pop/rock with psychedelia, power pop, music hall, raga rock, garage rock, sunshine pop, baroque pop and more.
A one of a kind album especially for 1966
Nick Drake
3/5
Good album, but gets slow and repetitive at points. The opener and closer are both really good. 3.5
Cat Stevens
4/5
Good folk rock album, little slow at times but what folk rock album isn't. 4/5
Amy Winehouse
3/5
Decent, interesting mix of soul, R&B, Jazz and hip hop influences
Funkadelic
4/5
Fun funky album, which also worked as great chill background music. "Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock" was the highlight for me (wish this was on Spotify)
4/5
Cocteau Twins
2/5
Okay, describe it as gothic dream pop
Elton John
3/5
Good album, a bit slow at points. But proggy in the way of slow Supertramp ballads on Crime. 3.5
John Coltrane
3/5
Just a fine jazz album
Low 3/5
XTC
4/5
Very good album (better this listen) The album can be defined as a summery 60s psychedelic feel using 80s instruments/recording practices
4/5
The xx
2/5
Un-remarkable indie pop. Listenable but nothing stands out.
High 2/5
Miles Davis
2/5
Say you want to have something in the background for a hour and a half and also want jazz. This would be the ideal pick.
low 2.5/5
Alice In Chains
3/5
probably the darkest grunge album, with a lot of classic songs, I hear a lot of Sabbath in the music as well.
high 3.5
David Bowie
3/5
Sounds really depressing and upsetting, but it's a piece of art that got better as the album went on. Probably will rise but for now a 3.
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
Really emotional pop (like kind of too emotional) though the good songs are good
fIREHOSE
3/5
Sounds like one of those albums an popular band puts out to show that they aren't pigeon-holed to a certain genre or sound. Problem is I have never heard of this band, so I have nothing to judge it against. No disrespect to The Minutemen.
Which ultimately that this album is nice, but not memorable. Though it may be memorable if you listened to this artist's entire catalog.
3
Bob Dylan
4/5
Moody slow moving blues, which works well for mr Zimmerman.
4/5
The Police
4/5
Not as many classics, but a well rounded Police albums with some good deep tracks. low 4/5
The Killers
3/5
Some really good songs, but yet some mediocre alt 2000s music as well
3.5
Elis Regina
3/5
Oddly relaxing. I could listen to that by a pool or beach and just chill.
3/5
James Brown
3/5
Way ahead of the time live album, in sound quality, showmanship, song structure the whole nine yards.
3.5/5
Justin Timberlake
2/5
Not sure why this is on the list.
MGMT
4/5
Modern day psychedelic album.
4/5
Nirvana
3/5

CHIC
3/5
Groovy album, one I could play at a disco party at my house.
3.5
Air
2/5
Moody ambient music, with some passages that are brilliant and others that I don't want to hear again.
High 2.5 stars
Meat Puppets
3/5
Weird 80s album. It is that quirky alternative that my dad likes, Byrds like psych country mix a la Notorious Byrd Brothers and punk.
Will listen again, but at this point 3/5
Sly & The Family Stone
4/5
Fun groovy psych soul/funk album.
Will listen again
high 4/5
The Temptations
3/5
Another solid album by the Temptations
high 3/5
Radiohead
3/5
Pretty good Radiohead album, same ole depressing "we live in a society" sounds but with horns at points.
3
FYI I am a Radiohead fan, just more of a Ok Computer/ The Bends guy.
Ice Cube
2/5
Decent some classics but a lot of non notable songs
2.5
Frank Black
2/5
okay album, like un finished tracks of Doolittle.
2.5
Fiona Apple
2/5
jazz pop, not really my thing 2.5
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
5/5
Amazing album that shows each member of the 4 showcasing their talents front stage while also having the chemistry to be in cahoots with each other on non lead songs (well maybe not as much Young but you get it)
5/5
Pixies
3/5
Decent some good songs, some not so good songs.
Did feel way longer than the album was.
Low 3/5
Circle Jerks
2/5
Not my type of music, but it was short so that was nice and bumps it to 2 stars.
2/5
The Beach Boys
5/5
Darkest beach boys album, but it is tremendous. Especially the feeling you get after listening to the last 3 songs.
Joan Armatrading
3/5
Interesting album, she is kind of like a female Cat Stevens.
3/5
Ray Charles
2/5
Not horrible, but boring, basically the same song over and over again. Then again this was recorded in 1959, so you can't fault the sound/arrangements.
2/5
Buck Owens
2/5
Decent country, would listen again if I was in the mood.
2.5/5
The Icarus Line
2/5
Okay, like a worse Strokes but more noise rock oriented.
Van Halen
5/5
The album that started 80s hard rock.
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
It is just a vibe, my favorite rap group of all time with amazing jazz samples.
Duran Duran
4/5
Best New Wave/ Synth Pop album i've listened to yet. Catchy but not really cheesy. Sticks to a certain sound, yet colors outside the lines a bit.
4/5
Def Leppard
3/5
Nice hard rock album of the 80s, precursor to the hair metal phase that would take over the airways soon
3/5
Sepultura
1/5
Not a fan
Jeru The Damaja
2/5
Fine album, not much else to say
high 2/5
Coldplay
3/5
Very acoustic and mellow Coldplay album with my favorite song by them
"Yellow". Not as much energy as the follow up album.
3.5/5
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
Album full of different twists and turns.
4/5
The Divine Comedy
2/5
Very cheeky, groovy, the kind of album you play while drinking a dirty martini
Some of the songs are beautiful breezy pop influenced by 60s baroque pop
The rest of the music is stereotypically too british, just something I wouldn't understand as I'm not a fan of crooning and don't really like the theatrics
2.5/5
Ella Fitzgerald
1/5
Thoughts, as I spilt up this album into 2 days (disc 1 on the 1st day and disc 2-3 on the 2nd day, I couldn't care less about the outtakes of disc 4)
Day 1
-Those first instrumental songs on the first disc are awful, remind me of the cheesiness of the Moody Blues Orchestration at the start of "Days of Future Passed"
- By song 11, this is growing pretty old, glad that I stopped after disc 1
Day 2
- To start It's nice and bright for the holiday weekend
- This copy and repeat lyrical style and classic disney orchestration is starting to get annoying by song 15 of disc 2
- On side 3 "Isn't It a Pity" is George Harrison's classic of the same title influenced from this song, also the instrumental section of "Love Walked In" sounds to me like the same George Harrison song
Finished although it's listenable (if you have it in the background), the fact that someone thought a 4 hour album full of the same cheesy lyrics and chippy disney like orchestration should be on this list, means 1 star
-
Curtis Mayfield
3/5
Fun, groovy fly soundtrack
3.5
Rush
3/5
Very strong first song, decent rest of way. Though the hard 70s rock mixed with prog sound is great!
3/5
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
I liked the album, really had a unique feel and instrumentation for 1966. Not your standard folk album. However ending with "Silent Night" is a let down.
3.5/5
Fleetwood Mac
2/5
Pretty medicore, long album that could have just been a single album. Also not a fan of the song "Tusk"
However the 70s Beach Boys inspired tune "That's all for Everyone" is really good
2.5/5
Norah Jones
2/5
I have fond memories of the first song "Don't Know Why", cause my dad would play it in the car, but everything else is okay at best.
2.5
Blood, Sweat & Tears
3/5
It's a shame you can't give a 2.5 to albums, cause this isn't a 3 but it is far from a 2. This is also like a B-list "Chicago" in my opinion, even though they released music before them.
Regardless with the hits and seeing myself enjoy this album the more I listen to it. I'll say 3/5
The xx
2/5
I remember the first song, but it is really boring other than that.
Elvis Costello
4/5
fun upbeat pub rock proto new wave album.
Talking Heads
4/5
Really funky album, a bigger fan now as this is the best post punk adjacaent album.
ABBA
3/5
Cheesy and at times annoying album, but they're some bangers in here.
Fatboy Slim
2/5
I'll give it 2 stars, cause it features a sample from my favorite composer of all time Keith Mansfield.
Michael Jackson
5/5
What can be said, has been said. Period!
Blur
5/5
Starts strong, falls off a bit but ends well. Really a Britpop album with a ton of different influences.
4/5
Hawkwind
4/5
Long but very interesting space rock album. Bonus points for sounding so great and spacey/psychedelic for a live album.
Black Sabbath
4/5
RIP OZZY.
Tito Puente
2/5
The music you hear in a Breaking Bad montage when someone is cooking or selling Blue Sky
The Allman Brothers Band
5/5
Best live album there is!
Frank Sinatra
2/5
Sounds just like how you think it would.
Kraftwerk
2/5
Fine album, more of a vibe in my opinion. Honestly could have fell asleep to this if I tried.
low 2.5
Hookworms
3/5
Not bad Indie Psych/space rock from a band that I didn't know of.
high 2.5 rounded to 3
Linkin Park
2/5
Like a better Limp Bizkit, but "In the End" is a banger.
2.5
OutKast
2/5
Very long album, with way too many interludes. Still some killer hits that everyone knows and Killer Mike destroys it on “Bust”
Regardless this is way too long and could have been cut into a single album.
2.5/5
Nine Inch Nails
2/5
Not really a fan of anything except "Hurt" as Industrial Rock isn't my thing.
2/5
Fiona Apple
2/5
Just not my thing again
1.5 rounded to 2
Tina Turner
2/5
I like that she covered Help and Lets Stay Together.
Dirty Projectors
2/5
Shoutout NBA 2k13 for "Stillness is the Move" fine other than that
2.5
Led Zeppelin
5/5
One of the greatest albums, with arguably the best straight up rock and roll playing of any disc
Marty Robbins
3/5
My type of country music, doesn't do too much but still packs a punch!
3.5
The Jam
4/5
It is ahead of its time while at the same time honoring the past british invasion.
I hear "XTC Skylarking", "The Kinks" (other than the obvious cover of "David Watts"), :"The Beatles" especially how "It's Too Bad" sounds like "She Loves You" done by "Squeeze" and "The Clash's various power pop adjacent songs on London Calling".
A very pleasant listen!
4/5
The Shamen
1/5
Not a fan and way too long
Talking Heads
3/5
Quirky funky-new wave, punk adjacent album showing the music that the Talking Heads would takeover very soon.
Jethro Tull
4/5
Great mix of Prog, Folk and Hard Rock.
Martin Barre kills it on guitar.
5/5
Not as high on this as everyone else, but I recognize greatness and know this is the Glam Rock album
5 stars
Nitin Sawhney
1/5
Fine at some points, awful at others.
1.5
George Jones
2/5
Fine, I like the up-beat numbers not the slow stereotypical country songs.
2/5
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
The album is a little too long, but still pretty fun unbeat pub rock.
Will listen again!
3.5/5
Massive Attack
3/5
Actually pretty good.
B.B. King
3/5
Pretty good live album and not too long.
high 3/5
Steve Earle
4/5
Good Country rock w/ heartland 80s rock vibes
3.5 rounded to 4
Joni Mitchell

Fine I guess, reminds me of the folk Paul Simon did on his self titled album
2.5
Nirvana
4/5
Good live album
Boston
4/5
Good album, went by quick!
Johnny Cash
4/5
Fun album, interesting as Johnny Cash curses at points and is bleeped out. I honestly might enjoy this more than At Folsom Prison. Johnny was on his A game this night with playing but also being a entertainer.
Green Day
3/5
fine album. Not as great as everyone else says. But for Pop Punk it is good with a few classics such as "Longview", "Welcome to Paradise", "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around"
3.5
LCD Soundsystem
2/5
Fine at points, just not my thing
Pearl Jam
5/5
Definitely my favorite grunge album of all time with arguably a top 10 song of all time "Black"
Kendrick Lamar
5/5
album of bangers, especially on 1st listen!
Aretha Franklin
4/5
Very good soul album, features Eric Clapton on guitar for a song
Radiohead
4/5
Better each listen.
It is very icy and is depressing in an optimistic way.
4/5
Count Basie & His Orchestra
3/5
Sounds mostly like a fast paced New York City focused montage you would hear in Mad Men, while the slower numbers represent the more somber moments in the show. Overall pretty good!
3/5
New York Dolls
4/5
It's like a mix of Exile Stones, The Stooges, Ziggy era David Bowie and the Velvet Underground. Quite a cool mix!
First listen and will say "Personality Crisis" is a bop. It is closer to a 3.5 but I will give it 4 stars.
Will listen again
3.5/5
5/5
For me it is like Revolver but add some more psychedelic color and take that all to 11
Top 10 album all time for me!
Dire Straits
2/5
Kind of disappointed, was sort of bored with this laid back pub blues, bit better at end. But nothing memorable other than "Sultans of Swing".
2.5
Can
3/5
I don't know if I am impressed, in shock, glad it is over, bored etc. It is truly a one of a kind album.
3/5
The Psychedelic Furs
3/5
Not as bad as I thought based on a different furs album I listened to. It has that upbeat new wave sound that I like.
3.5
The Beta Band
2/5
Pretty uninspiring, but wasn't unpleasant
R.E.M.
3/5
Decent, though the song featured in Family Guy when Peter gets a stroke is a bop. 3/5
Beatles
3/5
Might be the worst beatles album, but that's saying a lot as it is still almost a 3.5
Scissor Sisters
2/5
awful "Comfortably Numb" cover which sounded like "Stayin Alive" by The Bee Gees.
Coldcut
1/5
I thought the ads on YouTube were most interesting then this album.
Robert Wyatt
2/5
Boring at points, though a weird sound that I can't wrap my finger on.
Thin Lizzy
4/5
really good live album
Highlights are:
"Still in Love with You"
The change from "Cowboy Song" to "The Boys are Back in Town"
8
Simon & Garfunkel
5/5
Phenomenal album, but everyone knows that.
Favorite song "The Only Living Boy in New York"
5/5
Kraftwerk
2/5
Good music to fall asleep to, which I think I said about their other album I listened to.
Neil Young
5/5
It has this drunken haze feel to the album, it is dark but in more of a let's just get through this day way.
This is one of those albums that you listen to a few beers in on your patio outside just pondering life probably during the middle of fall. Then again maybe I am just saying this cause my dad's a big fan of this album.
4.5 rounded to 5
Talvin Singh
1/5
Not a fan, other than a bit of the Sitars.
Fugees
4/5
I'll give it a 4, really surprised me! Good mix of Reggae, Hip Hop, R&B and comedic interludes that were actually interesting.
Shout out to"Zealots" which samples "I Only Have Eyes for You"
3.5 rounded to 4
Prince
4/5
Definitely my favorite Prince album.
Mixes a lot of different influences in this Pop-Soul-R&B like slushie.
You could consider this his White Album!
Elastica
2/5
Angsty female brit punk rock with a bit of brit pop
3/5
A bit underwhelming, not as 60s mod/ Kinks influenced as I hoped. Also Damen's singing is more annoying on this album compared to Parklife.
There were still some standouts like "Blue Jeans".
Will need to give it another listen!
high 3/5
Van Morrison
3/5
Nice album, that I feel like could you listen while on a picnic.
high 3/5
The Notorious B.I.G.
4/5
Good rap album with subject matters that reflect from love to mental health.
Pink Floyd
5/5
Probably my favorite album that I really don’t want to listen a lot to.
It’s not because it is bad, it is just a uncomfortable listen and is a lot to listen to especially if you aren’t in the best mental space.
Finley Quaye
3/5
plesantly surprised a nice mix of reggae and british soul.
Emmylou Harris
3/5
A nice country album, with a nice relaxing sound. I could listen to his while drinking some beers with the fellows out on a porch.
3.5
Metallica
3/5
I used to think this was really overrated, but after seeing Metallica live I have a new level of admiration for the band and the songs on this album.
low 3.5
Stan Getz
4/5
Really good jazz album, will listen again!
Amy Winehouse
4/5
Really good jazz-soul album from a one of a kind artist!
Klaxons
2/5
Just okay british alternative rock
2.5
Tracy Chapman
3/5
Nice folk album done in the 80s which is impressive.
3
Buzzcocks
2/5
The lead singer's voice is awful and really keeps me from enjoying this album! low 2.5
Garbage
2/5
Okay, just generic angsty post grunge music
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
One of the best psych rock albums, pure mastery on guitar by Hendrix
Marvin Gaye
4/5
Just a great unified progressive soul soundscape, almost a play of progressive soul
Mj Cole
1/5
Another EDM album!
Frank Sinatra
4/5
Gorgeous album
Duke Ellington
2/5
Typical swing album, fine listen.
Michael Jackson
4/5
First listen, a lot of hits, a few sneaky underrated tracks and of course the tear jerker of "Man in the Mirror" which gets bonus points for being performed by myself in a play in 8th grade.
Iron Butterfly
4/5
Nice psych rock album that has a bit sunshine pop, doors like darkness, prog all encompassed in this hard rock psych rock mix.
Santana
3/5
Pretty good, not as good as what I originally thought. However a nice mix of latin rock, psychedelic tendencies, jazz fusion and blues.
Will listen again.
low 3.5
Gil Scott-Heron
4/5
I am a fan of the musical passages in this album. It is a nice laid back blues-jazz feel which are a good counterpoint to the political points that Gil echoes throughout this album.
Nick Drake
4/5
gentle folk rock album, which is my go to album to listen to fall asleep on planes. Also the title song is absolutely gorgeous and makes you think of what tremendous music he could have continued creating, if not for his tragic death!
Arcade Fire
5/5
The proto indie rock album that influenced how indie rock would sound from 2007 and onward.
Kate Bush
1/5
Artsy avant garde eccentric pop. I am really not a fan of her voice!
Gets worse each song, that last song is dreadful!
1.5/5
Kate Bush
2/5
2nd straight Kate Bush album sigh though I will say this one is better!
The ending is still obnoxious
2.5/5
Lupe Fiasco
4/5
Great beats, lyrics, flow. "Kick Push" is one of the most creative songs I have ever heard. Also the message on the album is authentic as Lupe is one of a kind. This falls down a bit cause I think it is too long and I start getting kind of bored half way through. Case in point the "Outro" song is heartfelt and real and it is way too long.
3.5/5 though pushed to 4 for being so real.
David Bowie
4/5
Fun glam rock/pop album that sees Bowie coming into his own. The first half is stellar with arguably his best song ever "Life on Mars". The 2nd half falls off a bit but there are still good tracks like "Queen Bitch". It really shows where he is headed after this album, like he's in labor with Ziggy Stardust.
Deep Purple
3/5
Good album, but doesn’t really stand out with the abundance of rock albums released this time 3.5
Lucinda Williams
3/5
Surprising, good combination of modern 90s rock and country.
Will listen again could get around 4 stars.
3.5/5
Mike Oldfield
2/5
Decent, good sound variation considering Mr Oldfield played all the instruments on this record.
2.5/5- straight 2.5
Black Flag
2/5
Punk album, goes pretty quick, not really my sound!
2/5
The Prodigy
2/5
Not the worse, not the best electronic album. Did go by quick!
high 2/5
Bob Dylan
5/5
Bob's 2nd best album, full of great songs and also underrated songs that should be held in a higher degree.
Belle & Sebastian
4/5
A cutesy album, with cutesy singing and delicate chamber pop instrumentation. I like it
Herbie Hancock
3/5
Nice chill funk-jazz album! Herbie Hancock is a maestro
3.5
The Dictators
3/5
Surprising like a mix of New York Dolls and The Ramones. They kick ass on the covers and their Beach Boys punk mix on "(I Live For) Cars and Girls" is strong!
3.5
The Kinks
5/5
It is a tremendous album. It is like THE proto brit-pop album mainly focused on the kinks version of baroque pop with touches of psychedelia, blues, music hall, folk, hard rock
That doesn't mean it needs to be put in a genre or category, it is really one of a kind!
I want to shoutout the psychedelic carnival atmosphere part on "Sitting by the Riverside"
The album does fall off a bit at the end, as they could have used a standout song to end the album. But that's really my only complaint.
high 4.5
Fela Kuti
2/5
decent, goes on too long, but a pleasant sound that I wouldn't have listened to otherwise other than featuring Ginger Baker.
2.5
Anita Baker
3/5
Good album, fun r&b record I tapped my feet too. I understand why this album is on the list and why she was popular in the 80s.
3
The Birthday Party
1/5
Not a Nick Cave fan, not a fan.
The Beach Boys
5/5
2nd best Beach boys album, basically Pet Sounds before Pet Sounds. It has the same pessimistic sensitive love songs, especially on the second side, which are countered by light orchestration and gorgeous vocals.
Please Let Me Wonder is a top 4 Beach Boys song of all time imo.
5/5
Pixies
3/5
Seemed fine, probably will like it more on more listens.
high 2.5
Beastie Boys
3/5
Some cool samples, felt more aggressive than Paul's Boutique. Shoutout "Root Down" off NBA2k9, specifically when playing blacktop.
