Nice energetic start to both the album and my listening project. I can admit that I have never really listened to this band so this is an interesting start. This really sounds like a British rock album from the 60s. Like the album cover also suggests. I am quite sure that if I delved into this band’s discography, I could start to appreciate it more. However, not gonna do that. But I do understand why this is one of the classics of western rock music. The fastest tracks were the best, there was even a slight sense of danger. Decent 3 for this debut because one of my favourite bars in the city of Turku is named after this band.
I guess the name of this album comes from i.v., meaning intravenous therapy: ”Intravenous therapy is a medical process that administers fluids, medications and nutrients directly into a person's vein.” And yes, I know this album is officially ”untitled”, but I also know that track A4 has been mutilated by excessive playing and appreciation. So it’s a pretty annoying piece of music at times, even though it’s a masterpiece. Some songs just can’t handle that kind of treatment. And of course it’s not their fault! However, they fade away, and soon they’re lying in a hospital bed, IV tube in hand.
The album looks good.
I don't care how influential a band or album is, this is boring and misogynistic.
The last track earned this album an extra star.
A slightly up-and-down album, but an interesting and influential debut.
It is completely impossible to listen to this kind of music without being overcome by violent thoughts.
Excellent overall: orchestration, lyrics, beautiful and sad.
I listened to RHCP for a while as a kid and teenager, but that time is gone. This is a good example of an album that is too long, and on top of that, uneven and toxic.
I would have liked to like this album.
A couple of tricks that many bands do much better and with some soul.
I'm glad I found this album.
The vocalist is pretty unbearable and I find it hard to understand why such an album is on this list, when significantly better ones in this ”genre” have been released a couple of decades earlier.
This is so much more than just the surface. And preferably listened through headphones. BoC is one the few artists that I still listen to after decades. It is a good sign, their releases age well. MHTRTC is a complex weave of something familiar, but at the same time a little disturbing, like vague emotional memories brought up by the subconscious.
I understand that it's difficult to rate the potential legendary status of recent albums. Also, I understand that this list of albums is heavily British-oriented. However, I think these examples also show how lazily this work/book has been done and I'm tired of the British's egotism and such bad records.
