Reviews (page 15 of 15)
I think I'd go to bat for this as the most essential and best Metallica album, definitely a classic, definitely belongs on the "must listen" list.
The distillation of all the best bits of Metallica across 54 minutes of brutal, aggressive, tight and polished musicianship (though there’s also a lot of subtlety here too). I listened to this a lot when I was a teenager, and many years after my wasted youth this album still can't be rated anything less than a 5.
Love it
Shite!
One of my favourite albums
classic
I absolutely love this album, maybe my favorite album by Metallica!! The title track still slaps to this day.
It's to much hard rock
Maybe not my normal cup of tea, but a few solid tracks with some great energy. 7.8/10
Did not enjoy
Never liked Metallica, it's just too grim and rowdy
Not my cup of tea
Man they really took themselves serious back in the day huh? 8 songs in 54 minutes attests as much. There’s a certain churning pleasure to be found here, and when it gets chunky it gets good. But I don’t know if long and repetitive necessarily equals masterful. And this from a man who actually likes Tool. I’m giving it 3 stars because I gave Black Sabbath the same and I like this better. From henceforth let’s imagine I gave Black Sabbath 2 stars, okay?
INTRO These songs are too long Favorites: Battery
Great metal album love it
i dont really like heavy metal soz
A very busy weekend which meant I didn't get around to listening to this and, frankly, I'm relieved. I did my time with this and other Metallica albums in my teenage years. I don't need to go back there.
didnt like
Reaction when this one popped up was “not now.” Reaction after listening was “not ever!” Now that we’ve listened to multiple Metallica albums I can say this is not their best and that is a very low bar.
Really not as great as I thought it was. Pretty bland.
Um excelente album, destaco o Battery, o Master of Puppets, Disposable Heroes e o Welcome Home (Sanitarium) Nota: 9/10
Couldnt tell the songs apart, or even artists as I was listening to Iron Maiden after the album finished and didnt notice. But enjoyed it 7/10
Typical metal sound. Love Master of Puppets.
It was a good listen, but I find this album somewhat overrated within the metal community. It's good, especially in terms of musicianship. But I find the songwriting somewhat bland. I do like Welcome Home (Sanitarium) a lot and always have. But on the whole I find the album just good and not at all the masterpiece many metal fans make it out to be.
Perfect
biblical
It's technical but not really enjoyable. After a while it all just sounds like the same screech. Not my cup of tea.
I have loved this album for decades and have no issues listening to it again. It stands the test of time and for me is probably Metallica's best album (or neck-in-neck with And Justice For All). Also the tracks really follow well if you listen in order. Note too that I saw Metallica play half these songs live and it was probably the most high-quality, fan-oriented live show I've seen.
Heard it a thousand times.
Great to listen, I recommend playing agressive Red dead redemption 2 gameplay while listening to it.
you KNOW it's a dang five
Classic
Not a huge Metallica fan, but that is a good album.
METALLICA MOFOS
Production: 5/20 Songwriting: 4/20 Innovation: 4/20 Bangers: 0/20 Emotional response: 2/20 =14 What a load of fucking shit
Masterpiece!
Some decent moments, and obviously a decent band, but too metal for me. Were I 20 years younger, though, they would likely have been among my favorites.
Already starting with some strong guitar. Hmm, just some strong guitar, which I can tell takes skill to play, but isn't that appealing, followed by a guy repeating the same words angrily.
Ce classique !
Fun and satisfying listen. DRUMS!
Classic. One of the best by one of the best.
too noisy
This album is OK, not my favourite but a decent listen. Love the drums
I couldn't listen to this album. I tried. It just sounds like noise to me. I don't understand the appeal at all. I wish I did so I can share in the enjoyment...but...nope. Not for me
Surprisingly shit.
Bacana demais! Porém passou minha fase já
Voces y ruidos. Molesto. Sin ritmo.
I feel like this is where it all started for Metallica’s rise. Such a good album full of thrash.
Normally not a fan of speed metal. But this one is a pleasure to listen to.
Actually kinda good
Never heard this album, but certainly can see its influence.
Rhythmically interesting and some great solos. Tracks were too long. “Orion”
Vibez
Holder seg
Gammal Metallica er gammal Metallica
Awesome thrash sound. Consistently hard and fast.
I know why it is on the list. Still, it hurts my ears to listen to most of the songs on the album
Masterpiece. What a ride. Headbangers dreamland.
Hate
tiresome
Pretty good! I'm not really a metal fan, but the guitar work is obviously skilled. I think it's mostly the vocals I don't care for, but here it works well.
BEST METAL ALBUM EVER. I'd give it six stars if I could.
Stabilt album.
Klassiker
Masters of their Craft. This music makes me want to lift weights, fight, drink, and end up at a tattoo parlor getting inked on my back with a picture of Zeus throwing a lightning bolt into the eyes of a jet black panther.
The Thing that Should Not Be and Sanitarium are some of the best hard rock/metal tracks ever. Solid album, though slightly less interesting on the back half.
Very heavy but I would listen to this while working out. I do like the song Master of Puppets.
i've been eyeing this one, too. fantastic album, and it takes me straight back to the days of bmx bikes and climbing cliffs and hanging out in sketchy attics with sketchy people. damage inc is an awesome way to cap off any album there is, too.
Meh not my thing
Master of Puppets is one of my favorite metal songs of all time. There are moments when the album takes a more melodic, quiet approach which I really love. It's great if you're in the right mindset, but can be exhausting listening all the way through. I think Metallica is as heavy as I can take in terms of metal.
meh
Blackened is a fine spirit, but this is not my style and the songs sound the same.
Can’t upset the Manta-Ray! Classic dum-dum-dum-dum electric guitar, maybe started here? All i know is half of the songs sound like a douchebag’s motorcycle trying to start.
I can appreciate that the music is technical, it just ain’t for me
One of my favorite albums. Most Definitely my on ramp into metal.
Classic album I’ve never fully listened too. New songs I liked- Battery, Welcome home, Disposable hero’s.
Seemed a little repetitive, but the guitar chords got me hyped. I can see where they influenced a ton of hard rock bands I used to listen to back in the day.
While I’m not the punk I was in high school who listened to this album a thousand times in my friends Camaro I really enjoyed this trip back to hear this again.
Yes please
This should be 3.5, but I’m feelimg generous today because this pairs well with a threshold bike workout.
Great album
Battery - Not great Master Of Puppets - All time classic The Thing That Should Not Be - Not great Welcome Home - Better, but still not great Disposable Heroes - Same Leper Messiah - Same Orion - Great instrumental, fantastic bass line Damage - Not great
Instrumental was awesome. I was in a funky mood tho so not really my cup of tea. The thing about metal is it’s always so fast and there’s nothing really drawing me in. I get why folks like it though because of the great musicians.
I don't like metal
Orion
Some deadly guitar solos. A bit too bleak for me. 2.5 rounded up.
Tight, chunky, sanitised, aggression. The songs are perhaps a little too meandering, too long, and too self-indulgent, but some great moments.
A classic. Enough has been said about the self-titled track, but I just want to call to attention how brilliant of a piece Orion is. One of only a few Metallica instrumentals, and simply stunning.
First full Metallica album I've listened to. I can see why 80's teens were into it. Complicated rhythms, edgy lyrics. Moms don't love it.
Very good album
1. Really like the sinister acoustic sounds in the beginning. Drummer goes ham. Vocals are nice. 2. Good. Second half of the song is nice. 3. I really like the main riff for this one. 4. Non-metal main riff seems really sinister, I like it. 5. I liked it. 6. OK. 7. Liked the part at 4:30. 8. Not a fan. The solo does go ham at 3:50 though.
This rating was not pulling my strings
Master of Puppets has always been a favorite track of mine, but comparatively, the others don't hold up in my opinion.
Classic metal album, timeless sound. Though gets a bit old at times.
2.8
too metal for my taste 1/5
#3 Metallica after Justice and Lightning. Brilliant.
This album is even better than I remember it. Though that being said metallica may have better albums.
This one is a classic for me. One of my favorites from Metallica
Was surprised, better than I thought, but Metallica is definitely not my bag
Solid album... not even my favorite from them, but I can't go lower than 5.
My personal favorite Metallica album is still Ride the Lightning, but objectively this is probably their most cohesive work. Both are classics.
A classic, definitely enjoyed my listen. The switch in the first song from acoustic to electric is killer, and Master of Puppets is an incredible song. Deserves to be on this list, 7/8,fav song master of puppets.
Metallica's best.
I mean, epic for powerlifting, gang fights and satanic rituals but not great anywhere with mixed company.
Good album, bit too raw for my personal taste
Great guitar sound. Orchestral arrangements. At the time it was intense but now it sounds pretty vanilla.
What can I say? MASTER MASTER
Just not a metal fan. There were a few interesting moments, but not enough to want to listen again.
RIP Cliff who knows what may have been post And Justice For All. This album still slaps
I feel like I can understand people who don't like metal, but I really enjoy it. Metallica, especially, has a lot of symphonic and classical influences apparent in their music. Just look at a song like "Battery", or pretty much anything on this record. I'm not Metallica's biggest fan, but damn does this record rip. Favorite tracks: "Battery", "The Thing That Should Not Be", "Sanitarium"
1986. Key Songs: Battery, Master Of Puppets, Damage Inc.
S tier thrash album!
This album is awesome!
Not bad
Meh
The best Metallica album! Thrash heaven!!
