The Darkness
5/5
I assumed that they were a one hit wonder band and that this would be fairly meh...but I was wrong! This is a gloriously daft and superbly unself conscious album . They throw in all the metal tropes and make it work . you can feel the genuine love and affection for the music, style and genre and it is great.

Billy Bragg
5/5
I have loved Billy Bragg since hearing Life a Riot with Spy vs Spy. I can fully understand that his voice might not be everyone's cup of tea but his lyrics tell suck great stories with a wonderful imagery and a hint of whimsy..."How can you lie there and think of England,
When you don't even know who's in the team" ...sublime!!

The Chemical Brothers
5/5
This is a better album than I remember. each listen provides a different experience and feeling.

Prefab Sprout
4/5
i liked this , lots of different vibes
Beastie Boys

Baaba Maal
5/5
really like this. No idea what they are singing about but lovely sounds
Marvin Gaye
3/5
5/5
Absolute classic. Came out when I was a teenager and it was such move on from Unforgettable Fire and just took you away to the heat and sweat of America. Listening again I still hear so many new things I have missed before. Love it.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
David Bowie
4/5
like this. I thought it would be depressing but actually it had much more going on than expected.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Shivkumar Sharma
3/5
The Stone Roses
5/5
Another classic album. Still sounds as good to me today as it did when i first bought. Blends so many different interesting sounds and Ian Brown could actually hold a tune. I have no idea how this has aged for new listeners, as for me it is still as fresh and new as the day it was released and listening to it I feel like the teenager I was at the time. Forever 5 stars!
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
3/5
was ok. some nice tunes but nothing to bring me back to it
Johnny Cash
3/5
Liked the banter and can see why this had had the impact it did at the time
The Monkees
4/5
the classics of course but I also liked the weird and random interludes and additions..I cant imaging what they might have been on at the time. proves that they were a proper band and not just a TV one.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
this is a classic but almost too classic in that you know you have heard the tunes so many times they almost become cliches of themselves. Still a great rock, blues album
Green Day

Being an original punk fan I always found the 'new punk' a bit generic/copycat but I did genuinely enjoy this album
The Thrills
4/5
liked this much more than I expected to. Some good tunes on here
ABBA
3/5
nice to hear stuff that isn't the normal classics. Surprising amount of 'storytelling' tracks which was interesting.

TLC
3/5
Nice enough RnB but not ground breaking for me.
Ghostface Killah
3/5
Not really my thing but its ok. best bits are the samples and bits of old songs they nicked. all a bit misogynistic, gangsta and all about the cash which is very much not my vibe. sort of thing that 'cool' wanna be gansta's would make/listen to.
Christina Aguilera
4/5
liked this much more than expected, even played it again. good mix of music and particularly likes the cabaretesque songs.
Saint Etienne
5/5
straight back to the nineties. Love her voice and the spirt of the tunes

4/5
not a metaller but again Maiden have made a great album.
Spiritualized
3/5
ok. sounds like it wants to be lots of other better bands but never quite gets there.
David Bowie
3/5
I know this is a classic and I should love it, and I am sure it blew peoples minds at the time but for me it has a couple of good tunes on and some others which are interesting but its not going to the top of my list I am afraid.
Thundercat
4/5
leans very heavily on a Frank Zappa vibe at the start ( in fact I thought it was a Frank sample first go round), which is not necessarily a bad thing. I like that it weaves about across genres and style and I will certainly be looking out more of his work.
The Auteurs
2/5
For an album called new Wave I was expecting something new, exciting, edgy but this was just dull and forgettable. No idea why this is on this list?

3/5
Depeche Mode
5/5
Definitely a grower. I was aware of Depeche Mode at the time but thought they were all a bit light weight and poppy , based of early tunes. Listening to this I can see how dark some of the lyrics were and in light of things I now know about the band I am seeing them in a new light. Very good and needs more listening
Robert Wyatt
2/5
it was all a bit twee and weirdy beardy. Probably be ok when stoned
ZZ Top
3/5

Paul Weller
5/5
I was always a Jam fan. I liked Style Council but I wasn't a fan of the solo stuff when it came out. But it was always there in the background and coming back to it after all these years the nostalgia and the memories associated with this album just move it into the 5 star category for me.

The Velvet Underground
2/5

Sarah Vaughan
2/5
nice enough
Johnny Cash
4/5
a couple of bangers on here. Love his voice.
Cowboy Junkies
4/5
