Penthouse And Pavement
Heaven 17Well, I was a little hesitant going in, since I never listened to Heavens 1-16, but I figured I'd get the gist of the plot through context. Pretty decent, some Talking Heads vibes (but worse lol).

Dull as heck. Why recommend this one when it's neither their best nor their most popular album?
I loved this one. Hard to describe, but felt both familiar and unique at the same time.
Liked it. Had heard most of the songs by themselves before, but this was the first time I listened to them all together. Light My Fire was my favorite.
Really chill, cool trumpets.
I like the band, but I don't like this album.
Beck could use a Red Bull.
Nice and chill.
This one didn't spark emotions one way or another for me. Very slow and quiet, sometimes I would just tune out the music and forget I was even listening to anything.
That boy Jones sure can sing-a-ling. It appears that I do like country besides Johnny Cash.
Old twists on old classics. Singing is good, but good lord is it slow.
Best bri'ish rapper I've heard so far.
Easy listen. Found it very relaxing.
Kinda liked it, kinda didn't. At times, it felt like I should be enjoying it more, but I just wasn't.
Can't believe I never heard a full LZ album before. Strangely reminding of Pink Floyd.
It's not my favorite M&M album, but it's top-notch anyway.
It's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky It's tricky, tricky, tricky, tricky It's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky Tr-tr-tr-tricky, tricky, tricky
lmao, what even is this. Couldn't at least recommend it on Christmas Day? Also, this album came out the same day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Ha ha ha.
Only electronic I like is Daft Punk.
I dunno, couldn't vibe with it.
Went by pretty fast, but maybe that means it didn't grab my attention?
This be the mood.
Three is the magic number.
Early Springsteen was already good, but not fully in the groove.
Dull as heck. Why recommend this one when it's neither their best nor their most popular album?
I think I'm either too young or too old to enjoy this as much as I feel like I should.
It has that song from The Batman.
Strangely haunting. Really enjoyed this one. How would I even go about finding it on my own?
I've actually listened to several songs from this band before, but I never paid attention to their name. Pretty good sound, but after going through their discography, I'm left kind of wanting for a different selection from them.
Eh. It's fine, I guess.
Great stuff from the Wu-Tang.
Not as good as Wu-Tang.
It's pretty good. I liked that one song from Oz.
lmao, didn't know they had other songs. Every star only for the titular masterpiece.
I didn't really like later Bowie. There's a lot of emotional weight on this record, but I just did not enjoy listening to it.
I like it, but it's also not something that I would consider for a list like this. But I've felt that way about several albums so far. Maybe 1001 is too much, or I haven't grasped how much that amount would represent.
You like jazz, you like the Duke.
Not my favorite album from Oasis, but still high quality. The songs in this one blend together more so and on the other albums I've listened, though.
You might be cool, but you'll never be Nick Cave cool.
Electronic music is such a chore for me to sit down and listen to. I get why is recognized as good and why other people like, but I just cannot stand it in large doses.
I used to listen to 'Everybody Hurts' on repeat growing up. I still think it's the best song in the album, but I can appreciate more the others like 'Nightswimming'.
Went in expecting something closer to John Denver, ended up pleasantly surprised with the style of the music. Not entirely my cup of tea, but I would be open to listening to another Neil Young album.
Guess I'm not a Motörhead fan. I am, however, a ¨ fan.
Simon without Garfunkel just doesn't hit the same way. 'Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard' is a banger though.
How have I never heard of this? I've been a fan of all the members for years. Then again, I listened to the full album and forgot every song the moment it ended, so that might be the reason.
Those hippies could jam. Timeless classic right here. Side note, only half of the album is available on Spotify. How does that even happen?
Absolutely intoxicating energy from Mr. Cooke. A gift to the senses and the soul.
It's not really my style, even with the random alien voices. Biggest problem that I have with highly influential bands from the early era of rock is that I like the bands that they influenced more.
Thought this would be trash, but I actually ended up enjoying quite a bit. This band has been around for almost 40 years, and I never heard of it in my life, crazy what recommendations you get here.
For some reason, I thought the lead singer from this band was the guy from James. I also thought that James was a soloist. You learn a lot from this site.
I listened to this interspaced with Tom Lehrer, which I thought really enhanced the overall experience.
I think Mr. Prince has his expectations for the late 90s too high. Then again, we did get The Matrix, so maybe not so.
On the one hand, I really enjoy this album. The blend of British/Celtic sounds and Hutchings' majestic bass being the highlights. On the other hand, it took me a week to finish because I found myself so unengaged by it. Maybe I'll come back to it in a few years and like it more than I have, but as of now I can't give it more love.
More like the singing heads. Got 'em.
From the first note, what a blessing for acoustics.
French homework just hits different. Daft Punk can evoke such unique emotions, wish those two little robots were still together.
The best MTV Unplugged. I prefer this version of Nirvana over its normal studio releases. Feels a lot more personal.
I believe that Kate Bush fills a very special niche in music. However, though I can appreciate the quality it contains, I am not part of it.
Weird feeling, liked half but forgot the other half as I heard it. Probably wouldn't listen again.
In spite of having heard 'Imagine' about a 100 times over my lifetime, this is the first time I've actually listened to a Lennon album from beginning to end. At first, I felt that the rest of the album wouldn't compare to the titular first song. And that assumption was mostly correct. I was surprised by how blues-y the whole thing is, but it's a really nice blend for the ears.
Pressed play on 'Precious' and somehow time warped until 'Brass in Pocket'. Strangely, there's no real desire to go back and re-listen the songs in between them.
All vibes.
Couldn't name you any other Welsh musicians of the top of my head, but now I have Mr. John Cale. Not a huge fan, but pretty nice vibes in this one.
I would have given this 2 stars, since I didn't hate it, just didn't like it, but I actually did hate the 'For What It's Worth' pseudo-cover.
Fairly solid album, but it's easy to see where the band is still trying to find its footing. Not my favorite from them by quite a margin, but there's a few great pieces, like Big Me that make it enjoyable nonetheless.
Absolutely love me some blues. This garage rock blues is a delight.
Very vibey, much German. I get the feeling that this was not my first time listening to this, but I can't for the life of me remember another time when I would listen to electronic music besides Daft Punk.
I don't think I've given Scissor Sisters the room it deserves in my musical life. If they get a second album in this list, then I look forward to loving 'Ta Dah' as well.
At first, I was like, "Oh, no! Not the bees! Oh, they're in my eyes!" But this was actually really solid. The album is pure vibes, and really represents why I wanted to start using this generator. Find out more about the less well-known bands that have their niche little brand of musical magic.
Meh...
The Beach Boys have always been a temporal anomaly in my mind, where I see them being an 80s/90s band no matter what I read about them or which song I hear from them. This doesn't have anything to do with the album, just felt the need to put my brain malfunctions in writing.
I've been listening to The Offspring for like two decades, but this is the first time I've actually listened to a full album from beginning to end. I liked it well enough, even though it's not my favorite sound from them.
Normally not a big fan of live recordings, but blues always feel so much more alive when you can hear the sound of the audience blend in with the music.
This was a short listen. Only 4 of the songs from the album are available on Spotify. I liked what I heard, maybe will look for the rest another day.
Is 'Mr. Blue Sky' the greatest song ever recorded? Only drawback is that every song that follows pales in comparison to it.
Nelson's voice is a little rough around the edges, but really burrows into you rather quick.
Full-blown scream to start things off, way to ruin the vibes. Seems silly, but a few songs in and I just can't get in the mood to keep listening. Let's just write this one off for now...
I love Metallica, but always struggle with enjoying these live performances for just about any band. The 'Ecstasy of Gold' is fantastic though.
What an annoying style of singing. 'Pump It Up' is a banger though.
Like floating in a river, let the flow carry you.
What a trip. The 'Light My Fire' cover through me for a loop.
At first, I thought "Who the hell is fIREHOSE?", then I thought "Why the hell is fIREHOSE?", and then I found out that it's the remnants of the people that made the song from Jackass. Quite a journey.
Huh?
I didn't dislike it, but it's just another album that went into one ear and out the other for me.
Oh, man, I love The Clash, but as good as it may be, this album I put in a solid 3rd place after London Calling and Combat Rock. Still, excellent punkness.
First Senegalese musician for me. Really enjoyed, though not sure how to describe it. Listening to 7 Seconds now, and that is also a gorgeous song.
First Beatles album on the list for me! Well, second, if you consider the Lennon one. Delightfully groovy and a perfect, gentle strike of optimism for the weary heart.
How much synth can I possible listen to in a single list. I didn't even know there were these many electronic albums around.
Brought back memories I didn't know I had.
Shows you your ailment and gives you The Cure. 'Lullaby' is a perfect song.
Man, I really thought Pantera would slot right in to my musical tastes, but the feeling's just not there. Maybe didn't listen to this in the right headspace? Anyway...
Well, I was a little hesitant going in, since I never listened to Heavens 1-16, but I figured I'd get the gist of the plot through context. Pretty decent, some Talking Heads vibes (but worse lol).
Boy, if I didn't care much for the previous Elvis Costello album on here...
Pretty neat. Something odd with the Heart Of Glass/Once I Had A Love combo.
First half is a banger, but peters out for me after that. I enjoy some Blur, but when I listen to them for a long while, it makes me happy that Damon Albarn went and made Gorillaz.
Hard to say why, but it just didn't click for me at any point. Shame, 'cause I was actually excited to listen to this one.
ABBA is just wondrous. Good for the soul.
I hate it, but I'm fine with it also? It's complicated.
Bob Dylan's got all the right words, and has left me with none to write here.
Love me some Trent Reznor, but even my more edgy younger self wasn't into NIN. Really like the cover of Johnny Cash's 'Hurt' though...
Another one I listened to with a friend, but this was felt a little more subdued. Would rate it pretty low on the Queen scale, but even a 0 on that is higher that a lot of other bands' best output.
Very Doorsy. From what I know about E&TB, Ocean Rain would have been my choice for the list. Still, a decent time.
I've become less eloquent in my reviews, but here I think it's fitting that I just say how I love Duran Duran.
Part of my enjoyment from listening to this album came from having a friend play along with me. It was a real joy to have someone with which to discuss how fire each song here was. Highly recommend.
I loved this one. Hard to describe, but felt both familiar and unique at the same time.
Better than the previous Bowie recommendation I've gotten here, but I think this is an artist that I enjoy listening in a more 'random song pops up in playlist' way than sitting down and listening to a full album.
Could listen to this on endless repeat. Gorgeous blend of language an instrument. What am I even writing?
Banger Hill. It does only get 4 stars because a lot of the album blends together at times, kinda hard to pick apart most of the songs.
Some of the songs are pretty good, but they'll never be Royals.
On the one hand, if I get another electronic music recommendation, I'm gonna scream. On the other, goddamn this is good.
'Dream pop', huh? I can dig it.
Found this so relaxing, deep down in the soul. Like the sun shining through the living room window on a Sunday afternoon.
Nothing against it, just not a fan of the genre.
Funky.
Hail to the King, baby. Wish I had better words for describing my feelings towards the music, but I simply love blues and there's no better blues than B.B. King's.
Lovely.
??? (Pretty decent actually)
Nice and soothing. Good for the soul.
Well, only 3 songs were available on Spotify, so I can't really judge the album as a whole. But those were some good 3 songs.
It ok, just not for me.
Alright, it's pretty decent.
Fun time. Sort of right on the edge between the country that I listen to and the one that I don't.
Sounds like a musical I'd never watch. Kinda like it, kinda not.
Unfortunate, but it seems like it's not for me. Find it hard to really focus in the music and get in the flow.
An album that I had actually listened to before! My Body Is a Cage has become one of my favorite songs ever, and it happened because I randomly saw an edit of Once Upon a Time in the West with it.
Gotta say, the most interesting part of this album is its name.
1.5 stars are solely for 'Alright'. That song is several steps ahead of the rest of the album, which itself isn't bad, just pretty forgettable.
Man, now I have an aching in parts of my soul I didn't even know were there.
Fantastic beats. 'N.Y. State of Mind' is an amazing track. Completely random, but whenever anyone says something is 'ill' my first thoughts are always with the Beastie Boys.
Goddamn, I loved this one.
Pretty good. Nice beats.
How many electronic albums can a list possibly have? I don't even dislike it, but I'm also having trouble differentiating it from the other groups.
Left this on the background and after 20 minutes or so I realized there was still music playing. Completely unengaging experience, musically speaking.
Very chill to my ears. 'Pinball Wizard' is the obvious standout, but the rest of the opera blends together and I find it hard to pick other parts that I enjoyed.
Really fun listen. 'Bad' and 'The Way You Make Me Feel' are a crazy way to start any album, but the rest of the work more than meets the expectations. 'Dirty Diana' is not a song I hear discuss enough.
Probably shouldn't have given the Shady one 5 stars, kinda have to inflate the following ratings a little to match. But, well, this is still fantastic.
I have the vaguest memory of having heard this album before. And a stronger one that 'Tainted Love' is the only song worth listening here.
This is a lengthy one. I think the rating here reflects more on the mood that I was in when listening to it, I was really struggling with enjoying it.
Fell in love with this one. 'You Can Call Me Al' has been stuck in my head for days.
Funny thing keeps happening. I press play on the album, then immediately I find myself at the end. Looking at the clock, I can see that the time has passed, but don't remember listening to the songs. How does that work?
Gorgeous display of raw emotion. Lotta songs about cowboys meeting their end too. Some of the covers here I'd say are not as good as their original, or most popular, versions, but none of them fall too far behind and they all do come with a new meaning when sung by Cash.
Plain to see how and why people were blown away back in the day. I did like Sgt. Pepper's a tad more, so I gotta rank this a little lower than it probably deserves.
If the weather was always like this, don't think anyone would ever complain.
What an absolutely fun time this is. A delight from start to finish.
Not my favorite sound from FM. Hard to place it, but I kinda felt like skipping every other song.
Every song with Mr. C was an absolute banger. The rest of the albums is fine, I guess, but the whole thing is worth a listen for 'Move Any Mountain' and 'Make It Mine'.
Eh, kinda interesting at the start but fairly forgettable afterwards.
Man, 'If You All Get To Heaven' knocked me on my behind, I was so ready for the rest of the album if that was the tone it would follow. Very different in the end, at least in the way that it made me feel. Kind of a shame, but still a solid entry here.
Absolute and complete delight. From 'Second Hand News' to 'Gold Dust Woman', there wasn't a single beat I was not lost in. Perfect album.
Love me good ol' Rock and/or Roll. Great voice and fantastic piano. Also failry short and sweet.
What in the world? Hope there aren't any more movie soundtracks in here...
Really threw me for a loop how different Elvis' voice sounded between songs. And I will say, Val Kilmer did 'Tutti Frutti' better.
Very energetic beginning, but slows down too much for my taste past the halfway point. 'American Pie', 'Vincent', 'Winterwood' I found (like most people) to be absolutely fantastic songs, and the whole thing ain't too long in any case.
Drape this album over me like a warm blanket.
I'm running on no sleep, otherwise I'd type a little more here, but I found it to be an excellent work of auditory art.
I think I listened to this this one across 1 full month. Not sure if I hit every song, since I kept forgetting where I was when I stopped the previous listening session, but oh, well. Maybe I liked it?
Some nice Bowie vibes from this one.
Quite an unexpected rec for me. Like a more dreamy Beach Boys. My friend did enjoy 'Child Is Father of the Man' though, so that's an extra star.
This fella can whisper like no other. I find it hard to pick out any standouts, but I do feel that I'm gonna be revisiting this one a little further down the line.
Man, I just realized that all these new bands are just ripping off Judas Priest...
Finally one from this amazing duo. I've already had 2 solo Simon recommendations, now I can really appreciate how well Garfunkel complements him. Gorgeous sound, nigh ethereal.
This gives me some real mixed feelings. I didn't find it 'fun' to listen to, but it was insightful into a culture that I'm perhaps a little too harsh on. I think I liked it, and I would want to read the lyrics for some of songs here again, like 'Three Great Alabama Icons', but I don't want to listen to it another time.
Absolutely adore The White Stripes. Even though I find this to be an excellent album, there's 2-3 others from them I would put ahead, if only by a little.
I enjoyed this one a lot more that 'Either Or'. Better sounds, better vibes.
Oh man, I've been an AC/DC fan for decades, but I've never actually tried to listen to a full album of theirs from beginning to end. And now that I have, I kinda can't get through it? It's a strange sensation, liking every song individually, just not one after the other.
After giving 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan' another listen, I feel very confident marking this one as good, but the lesser of the two. Great lyrics, as per usual, but I couldn't quite connect with it as well as I did with Freewheelin'.
Most strange sensations, my dude. Really positive start, but about 40 minutes in I began to feel kinda disoriented. Never experienced that before. Must have been the demons exiting my brain. 40 minutes later it went back to an amazing close though.
Eh, pretty average in my grungy opinion. 'Broken Hands' an absolute standout though.
Man, it's kinda sad, 'cause it feels like I should love the Pixies. But every time I listen to a few of their songs in a row, it turns into nails on chalkboard.
Absolutely love this one. My favorite from Black Sabbath, just ahead of 'Paranoid'. 'The Wizard' was the song I enjoyed most here.
What a vibe. Now I want to commit arson, but in a sad way.
Wa wa wee wa, is grindcore not my thing!
Taught by the Lord of Trash, but damn if it ain't a treasure for all.
Ha, I listened to this, then forgot to come back and give it a rating. My computer would love this one.
Not everyday you come across an album teaching you how to say the band's name, but maybe it needs to become a more common practice. Absolute and complete delight this one. Not a wasted moment from 'I Ain't The One' all the way to the greatest guitar solo ever recorded. The trio of 'Things Goin' On', 'Mississippi Kid' and 'Poison Whiskey' is quite underrated for me, even if it's hard for them to compete with the amazingness of the other tracks.
Not much for me to say here. Just good vibes all around.
Very evocative of other (better) punk sounds from this list I've had the pleasure of listening to before. Fairly dull all in all, and overly long.
This one starts off strong, but kinda peters out as it goes on. It is a rather short listen though, so it doesn't have time to get boring, but it does end up as less interesting than it could have been.
'Respect' so good they put it here twice. In all honesty, could have gone for a third.
This is the second album I've had recommended from this band. It's funny, because I reread my thoughts for that one, and I felt then what I feel now. The album's alright, but I would be hard pressed to include it in any list of music to listen to before we croak, let alone two.
My favorite of the three Bowie albums I've been recommended so far. Snatches your attention away from all else and keeps it captive the whole way through.
Feel a little silly for whatever reason, but I actually really enjoyed this one all the way through. However, gotta dock a point for that cover.
Banger after banger after banger after...
Gorgeous, gorgeous voice.
I liked it, but it kinda makes me want to go listen to Janis Joplin.
Don't think this one's as strong as 'Neon Bible', but still find it very solid. The titular track is an absolute banger, and even though I didn't feel any that the rest of the album stood close to it, it was a nice listen through and through.
Enjoyed this one slightly more than 'Music From Big Pink', with 'Whispering Pines' as my standout.
Wish I had more words to express why I like this album, but the songs here don't need to overburden themselves with lyrics, so I hope the stars suffice.
Year ago, my mom introduced me to Depeche Mode, and the world has seemed brighter, more suave ever since.
I'm a dude, but this album got me pregnant.
Some fun vibes in here, but falls a little short of being truly 'electric'.
I've only listened to songs from 'Different Class' before. First half of this one has a little more somber tone, kinda? I liked it quite a bit. But gears switch between the vibes throughout, and "I'm A Man" is quite fun (I will not look at the lyrics).
Just powerful stuff.
Best elevator music I've ever heard, bar none.
Only thing better than Depeche Mode is more Depeche Mode.
How have I gone my whole life without listening to a full Deep Purple album?
Meh, the English here is perfectly cromulent.
Nice, healthy dose of surrealism to kick off the week.
Hey, I remember getting into Violent Femmes through The 100! And it was only *checks year* almost 10 years ago... oh... oh no...
I realize now that I wasn't as big a fan of Mr. Dylan as I thought I was before starting the use of this album generator. I like this one, but it's the third I've heard and my enjoyment has experienced some diminishing returns, so hopefully I won't get another for at least a few hundred recs, or at all, and we can end on a good note.
The titular 'Maggot Brain' is an absolute work of art.
Strange sequel for such an excellent movie, but nice vibes all around.
Wow, I hate this!
More Pulp is a treat. Going into this, I figured I would enjoy it more than 'This Is Hardcore', but I actually felt both albums were pretty close in terms of quality.
Metal to the pedal and never slow down. Amazing string of bangers.
About time we got some proper goth representation up in here.
We need more bossa nova up in here!
Nice vibes, but I do prefer my music with some voices in them.
Fairly a-Muse-ing.
Strong case for the funniest album in the list. Shame it's not actually the full thing from what I've read, would have liked to hear the complete performance.
Honestly, super relaxing.
Eh, just sounds like the worst parts of Steely Dan to me.
I really, really hate the inclusion of movie soundtracks in this list. They don't exist on their own. Without the visual aspect, the songs can't convey their full meaning. I like Air, and 'Playground Love' is one of my favorite songs. If it wasn't for that, this would be a 1 star.
Sounds like two 30 minute songs broken up by 'One'. But hey, even if most of the album blends together, it's still good. Like a nice smoothie.
Been a fan of 'Pink Moon' for a minute now, never realized it came out in the 70s until I read up a bit more on Mr. Drake. Nice and soothing, like most good folk.
Fun riffing.
Quite the trip.
Oh, George Michael, so dreamy. It's alright, I guess, but probably wouldn't listen to it again.
Is it weird that 'White Rabbit' is one of my go-to workout songs?
Pretty chill and catchy tunes, pleasant listen.
Really not my vibe. Also, terrible 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine' cover.
First Taylor Swift album I've ever listened to. It okay.
I know I've written against having movie soundtracks on this list several times by now, but hot dang, you just can't stop that funk.
Nothing cheap about Janis Joplin, what an artist.
Delightful.
Couldn't keep my ear tuned to this one.
Blue is how I feel after listening to this album. No shade meant for Joni, just ain't my vibe.
A step below 'Machine Head' but still excellent rock. Now, time to dive into this band's 'Mark X line-up' rabbit hole.
I've never heard about these dudes in my life (and judging from the Spotify numbers, never will again), which is wild, since they're right up my alley. Truly fun album to listen.
Hmm. In theory, I should enjoy this at lot more than I do in practice. Oh well, maybe I'll check out LA some other time.
Good beats. This rating's for Joe.
Extra star for the pun.
That's some good funk. Right outta the gate swinging with the lyrics too. Vibes all around.
Fun time with this one.
Pretty good. Certainly hits more than a few emotional chords.
I mean, 'Black Hole Sun' by itself makes this an easy 5 stars, but if it were missing, the rest of the album ('Fell On Black Days' in particular) is strong enough to warrant equal praise as well.
That's gonna be a no from me, dawg.
Third Metallica album on my list, and certainly my preferred one so far. Songs here are right on the edge of length and intensity, striking a balance that makes it a great listen from start to finish.
Good, but I like 'In The Court Of The Crimson King' a lot more.
Chill time. Most of the album is pretty low-key, but it has a strong start and ending.
Delightful, ear-piercing harmonica. Pretty good, not as good as Freewheelin'.
