This was an interesting album that I had not previously considered. It was ambient and moody with some traces of Sgt Pepper, Bowie/Eno Low. It also reminded me of Nick Cave/Warren Ellis scores (or visa/versa). I would listen again!
Great cover artwork and interesting listen. Not as heavy as I had imagined and story telling not overly dominated by guitars. Surprised.
Classic Michael Jackson, only suprise was that there were a couple of unfamiliar tracks. The album must have started many careers!
I haven't listened to Arcade Fire much, although I did see them live at a festival. I like the music and I think that the album requires/deserves a lot more listening.
My first listen to a Beastie Boys album, and much as expected from the radio play singles. I think that this material as a set would be great in a live, possibly festival setting but back to back songs on an album were just a bit too much BB for me.
The title says it all. Really liked this album. The sound is great and the lyrics require more that a single listen and some thought. Great to see them back playing at Glastonbury 25 (on TV only). Need to seem them live!
Long album, very much the 70's sound. Inspiration for Eagles, Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac. I was more into UK music, Bowie and Roxy, so it really passed me by.
What do you do after being in one of the best duos ever? Record a brilliant album, and better to come. One of the greats.
An album of 60's pop songs, some brilliant and many familiar. Unmistakable voice, probably inspiring many of the modern day singers: Amy, Adele, Raye.
Probably the first LP that I ever listened to. Iconic with brilliant stand-out songs. Satisfied customer.
A couple of stand out tracks but little else emerged for me, as an album.
Didn't know any of the songs before I listened but I really like the sound and the mood. An album I would definitely like to revisit again.
I can appreciate that other story tellers may have been influenced by this material but this was not really my style of music.
I like the Smiths more retrospectively. This may not be their best album but still sounds good on a sunny afternoon.
A classic single, but the rest of the album while pleasant, easy-listening is not memorable for me. Probably better as a live act.
This was a good suprise. I knew some of the tunes that I hadn't expected to. I enjoyed the laid back vibe.
Classic album. Long moody tracks and a little bit self-indulgent, but enough great moments for core and more general fans.
Interesting and sometimes overwhelming guitar sound, but I'm sure that's the aim. Reminded me of Iggy Pop in parts. I'm sure there is a cult following.
Laid back and cool. Transports the listener to old american movies. Never listened to this style of music but feel really calm for doing so.
I like Billy Bragg and he continues the great tradition of story telling and support for causes. However, overall I prefer he music in smaller portions.
Slipknot are loud, raucous and moody, This record pushed the heavy metal genre and has merit among fans. I know people who love this, but my appreciation would be restricted to live performance or perhaps halloween for the mood.
High pace and high energy heavy metal with macabre themes. Liked this more than anticipated.
The sound of the album is definitive Cure, but eventually becoming noise. The lyrics are very challenging. Not an album to lighten the mood. A cure is needed.
I guess you either get this or don't. Not my type of music.
At the time I viewed the Cars as a singles band, and overall this did not change my mind. Good highs.
This album helped define the metal genre. It is also tuneful and melodic. The vocals, now haunting, serve as a fitting testimony to all involved.
Super pace and great sound to this album. New to me but definitely worth a listen. Probably would sound even better live.
Music for a sunny beach club somewhere exotic (sipping a cocktail). I found it hard to engage with on a grey winter day in UK.
Fun hour listening to the Cramps. Rockabily influenced songs. Hard to pick out individual tracks but punky nice sound.
Second Arcade Fire Album provided fromt he list. The more I hear the music the more I like the band. Uplifting music and interesting lyrics.
Well worth a listen, but need more time to fully appreciate this band as there is a lot going on. Reminded me of Talking Heads, which is a huge compliment.
The Clash were the best punk band and the music is still fresh. I saw them in Queen's students union Dec 1977. The gig was amazing. Its hard to believe that a band can produce a such an epic record so early in their career. Easiest album to score.
Very familiar songs from a time when albums were a collection of songs. The voice is great and the music will last.
Country is not my preferred choice but Emmylou's voice is realy compelling on this album; mature and confident. The lyrics are honest. One for a car journey (in the Apalacian mountains, of possible).
Smooth sound from Sade. First time listening but no real suprises for me. The album begins with the well known singles and the sound continues in same vein throughout. Late night music.
Mostly instrumental album with epic cinematic production. Soulful and jazzy with riffs that have certainly influenced later songs. Standouts are the dramatic Shaft theme(s) and the beautiful Soulsville.
I heard a lot about this recording and finally got to listen to it as part of 1001. Fast pace and and power with great crowd reaction. I would have prefered to be there (as with most live albums). US guitar music sound probably not really appreciated in the UK's days of punk. I wonder what their studio albums sound like. Glad to hear this, eventually.
Super cool album cover, super chilled album. Some tracks would fit right in Rick's Cafe in Casablanca, others in New Orleans club. A reason to go to Cuba.
Great memories. Some highlights; mostly saw George Michael as a chart pop star, but of course he was better than that. Well worth a revisit and George deserves his place in the elite.
Iconic early Beatles. This is album of songs, many I know word for word. 'And I love her' is my stand out. It is difficult to see how the Beatles would evolve to invent the album.
