Popular Reviews

Mercury Prize strikes again! As a Radiohead fan I think this probably sounds like Radiohead to those people who don't like Radiohead. Only thing saving this from one star was I liked The Bones of You some.

Aja by Steely Dan

All my life I've had people telling me how steely dan is the best ever and I've never ever gotten that feeling. Giving this three stars due to its influence on 90s hip hop

Brutal Youth by Elvis Costello

I like early Elvis Costello a lot and look forward to hearing those albums. Conversely, I do not look forward to hearing his more recent work. It's fine.

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire

From the first time I heard this in 2010 I was in love. And every time after that I've listened to it, The Suburbs still holds up. Maaaaybe it's a little long but this could easily go 5 stars on a different day (and may be edited up in the long run).

Ingenue by k.d. lang

Radio pop from the early 90s with an absolute banger in Constant Craving. Still, not much else to differentiate it from whatever else my mom was listening to back then.

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Dec 22 2025

Just listened to this and now gladly doing it again on the 50th anniversary remix. One of the first albums I truly loved when getting into music in junior high. Only low point to me is Welcome to the Machine which is a bit too drudgy. But easy five stars for this prog rock masterpiece.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Dec 23 2025

Not my favorite Rolling Stones record but one I was familiar with. Under my Thumb always sounds so unnerving. Love that one. The album does have a nice vibe of garage rock which is nice

Violator by Depeche Mode
Dec 24 2025

This seemed like a fun era of music but I was a skosh too young

Murmur by R.E.M.
Dec 25 2025

Not many bands can stay they kicked off their debut album with a song as great a Radio Free Europe

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
Dec 30 2025

Not a jazz guy at all but I can appreciate this and always have

The Slider by T. Rex
Jan 01 2026

No major complaints but not my favorite T. rex either.

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra
Jan 02 2026

When people say dad rock this is what I think of. And I'm 41.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Jan 05 2026

I wish frequently I was as cool as Karen O.

Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine
Jan 06 2026

Righteous anger that's still relevant 34 years later.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jan 08 2026

By all accounts I should like this but it just seems so pretentious. And I love the arcade fire so that's a lot coming from me

Ten by Pearl Jam
Jan 12 2026

Would absolutely go 4.5 stars or even five if it didn't drop off ever so slightly in the the of side b. Slide State of Love and Trust in there and it's a different story

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
Jan 13 2026

My third favorite velvet underground record. A bit more esoteric in my opinion but still pretty great

New Wave by The Auteurs
Jan 14 2026

Sounded like a derivative sound of something else I don't like

Fly Or Die by N.E.R.D
Jan 15 2026

Wasn't familiar with it but immediately put don't worry about it on my personal playlist

Tom Tom Club by Tom Tom Club
Jan 16 2026

Can we get Talking Heads, mom? We have Talking heads at home. But seriously a fine fine album. Crazy the amount of influence genius of love has had for the last 40-odd years.

Diamond Life by Sade
Jan 17 2026

In some ways Sade was a direct influence on Red hot chili peppers (horniness)

Licensed To Ill by Beastie Boys
Jan 17 2026

Maybe with retrospective it's a bit juvenile but these samples and rhymes are still all-timers. Any album that kicks off with the drums from When the Levee Breaks immediately catches my attention.

American Beauty by Grateful Dead
Jan 18 2026

The greatest American band of all time.RIP Bobby

On The Beach by Neil Young
Jan 19 2026

Not my favorite neil young album by far (and I can't wait for them to presumably come). Still the ditch records are pretty good

The Score by Fugees
Jan 20 2026

The great songs are great and the not great songs are pretty good too. I could listen to Lauryn Hill sing the phone book

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Jan 21 2026

From the first time I heard this in 2010 I was in love. And every time after that I've listened to it, The Suburbs still holds up. Maaaaybe it's a little long but this could easily go 5 stars on a different day (and may be edited up in the long run).

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean
Jan 22 2026

Would be closer to 3.5 stars on a more detailed rating and on the right day in the right mood 4. I still remember catching an odd future show at fader fort at sxsw I'm maybe 2011 and being amazed.

Jan 23 2026

This was honestly headed to 1 star because back in the day I couldn't stand brimful of asha and everything sounded the same to me. But then side b happened and the album got slightly better. So I guess 2 stars since it got weirder.

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Jan 24 2026

Peel away all of the substance abuse and mental health issues. Peel away all of the hospitalizations and legal troubles. They're all part of a larger tragedy about how we lose great great artists way too soon. Remove all of that and you still have this amazing phenomenal voice that is still mesmerizing.

The Hissing Of Summer Lawns by Joni Mitchell
Jan 25 2026

Joni Mitchell had a string of good to great albums in the 70s and this is certainly one of them.

New Boots And Panties by Ian Dury
Jan 26 2026

A bit singsongy if that makes sense. I wasn't familiar with Ian Dury and thought it would be more proto-punk / new-wave and was headed towards two stars. Then blockheads and blackmail man saved it up to three.

Aja by Steely Dan
Jan 27 2026

All my life I've had people telling me how steely dan is the best ever and I've never ever gotten that feeling. Giving this three stars due to its influence on 90s hip hop

Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris
Jan 28 2026

Not something I'd probably listen to again but I have no real complaints

Street Signs by Ozomatli
Jan 29 2026

This was headed to one star because I hated the English parts. The Spanish parts that didn't try to do a rap/rock hybrid was pretty good. Probably won't ever listen to this again but it's not without it's merits.

Ingenue by k.d. lang
Jan 30 2026

Radio pop from the early 90s with an absolute banger in Constant Craving. Still, not much else to differentiate it from whatever else my mom was listening to back then.

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Feb 01 2026

First foray into Isaac Hayes get the shaft soundtrack and no complaints

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Feb 02 2026

I didn't even realize this was streaming again. There is a sonic wall of sound that runs through De La Soul's albums that is very pleasurable

Achtung Baby by U2
Feb 03 2026

I've never been a huge U2 fan but this is fine. I can't ignore the fact that One is a pretty good song but Mysterious Ways makes me want to shut down.

Good Old Boys by Randy Newman
Feb 04 2026

It's satirical sure but I'm not sure that means it's worthy of all the accolades.

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Feb 05 2026

EDP445-says-I-mean-it's-alright-.gif Locomotive Breath notwithstanding, this to me sounds like Ren Faire music. Which is great if that's what you're into but it's not classic prog rock to me like it's advertised to be

Bossanova by Pixies
Feb 06 2026

The original four album run by The Pixies from Surfer Rosa to Dolittle to Bossanova to Trompe le Monde is pretty unmatched in music. In some ways Bossanova is a different sound altogether. Little bit more spacey and a little bit less jagged with still a whole lot of abstraction. I love this album but knowing that two of the aforementioned albums are on this list that I love more will put this at four stars. I was planning on only giving one five star review to a pixies album but that problem is for another day

Synchronicity by The Police
Feb 07 2026

Not sure I've listened to the Police before that weren't now the "classic rock" hits. But this side a is pretty good bordering on really great. But side b does drop it down some since the hits are overplayed

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Feb 08 2026

How many five star albums can I give to Led Zeppelin? I think that's the real question. Listened to this probably hundreds of times in my life so far, listening to it today, and will listen to it hundreds of more times. Thinking through it, and the albums I'm assuming are coming from LZ, I think this still makes five stars. There are no skips on this album and even Black Mountain Side is pretty awesome and if that's the "low point" on your debut album then something has gone terribly right. And to have the audacity to close with How Many More Times? Get out of here.

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
Feb 09 2026

I prefer my folk with a little bit more bite but Ms. Baez has a tremendous voice.

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Feb 10 2026

Britpop is just ok in my book. It's pretty boring for an entire album. This seems like good britpop so that's better than the lot.

Emperor Tomato Ketchup by Stereolab
Feb 12 2026

I don't know if I was in the right mood for this and it didn't match my vibe. But. I know there would be times that it would match my vibe. Pretty fun.

Idlewild by Everything But The Girl
Feb 13 2026

Not my tempo

Garbage by Garbage
Feb 14 2026

This is my wife's favorite band and they and this album have greatly grown on me over the past 15 years.

Time Out Of Mind by Bob Dylan
Feb 15 2026

Reader, I listened to Bob Dylan. I loved Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan was a friend of mine. Time Out of Mind, you're not (good) Bob Dylan. Greatly prefer modern times for late era Dylan but all of this pales so so so much to his peak.

Kala by M.I.A.
Feb 16 2026

When this album came out it was everywhere in Austin. Side B, Paper Planes excluded, unfortunately drops off a bit

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Feb 17 2026

This is great. It's so good it boggles the mind as to how none of these songs ended up on Beatles records. Then you remember how phenomenal they are and become even more amazed

The Band by The Band
Feb 18 2026

Took a bunch of Canadians (and Levon Helm of course) to make a fundamental Americana album. America is truly a melting pot. I like Levon's singing voice a lot more than I like his warble.

Shaka Zulu by Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Feb 19 2026

Turns out I like my South African a capella music in small doses like on Graceland and less for 40 minutes straight. It's very beautiful but not in my q zone

Back to Basics by Christina Aguilera
Feb 20 2026

I dont often listen to pop from this era but I always find myself enjoying it

Brutal Youth by Elvis Costello
Feb 23 2026

I like early Elvis Costello a lot and look forward to hearing those albums. Conversely, I do not look forward to hearing his more recent work. It's fine.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Feb 24 2026

When I first listened to Maggot Brain years ago it was distinctly not what I expected. And was pleasantly surprised!Such fun and joyous music (and one of the best extended solos ever by the late and underappreciated Eddie Hazel). Now when I listen to Maggot Brain it's exactly what I expect and somehow it's even better.

My Generation by The Who
Feb 25 2026

Very solid debut album by The Who. I generally like their more rocking and less power poppy songs but it's pretty enjoyable if not a bit jarring when they do blues covers like I'm a Man. My Generation, the song, may get its flowers but The Kids Are Alright is the best part of the album. Still you can see the initial seeds of a band that will soon be one of the biggest in the world.

Car Wheels On A Gravel Road by Lucinda Williams
Feb 26 2026

This is my first real surprise with 60 albums reviewed in regards to being unexpectedly blown away. Phenomenal album in a genre of music that I usually don't choose to listen to.

Face to Face by The Kinks
Feb 27 2026

Never really figured out why I don't love The Kinks. I should. And I like some of their songs. But mostly it s just sounds like "60s" to me and there's better music from the 60s

Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes
Feb 28 2026

Definitely wore this one out in college. Very atypical from previous harder albums (at least in terms of the hits), Get Behind Me Satan is eclectic in the best ways. And catchy as fuck.

Bert Jansch by Bert Jansch
Mar 01 2026

Wish I could rate this 3.5 stars as I enjoyed it more than a lot of 3 star albums so far. I knew Yo La Tengo's cover of Needle of Death and never heard the original and it's beautiful. Heroin is awful.

1984 by Van Halen
Mar 02 2026

Not a huge Van Halen fan or Glam Metal in general but I can't deny that this rips

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Mar 03 2026

I love Chicago Blues.

Throwing Muses by Throwing Muses
Mar 04 2026

Did I know anything about Throwing Muses when i saw this album come up? No. Did I listen to the wrong album on spotify until I finally dug up a working link on YouTube (https://youtu.be/E1Xd2jY3zWQ?si=qRGWAvb1b2HpUJ6r)? Yes. Did I like this? It was good. Maybe a bit repetitive but you can hear why they meshed so well with The Pixies on 4AD.

Punishing Kiss by Ute Lemper
Mar 05 2026

I wasn't a huge fan of this. Like Broadway show tunes (which I can enjoy) but without a plot.

Bone Machine by Tom Waits
Mar 06 2026

I can understand people not liking Tom Waits and the way he sings. But here's the thing. I had Ute Lemper's Punishing Kiss yesterday. And it was clear that Ms. Lemper had a tremendous voice. But that didn't move me. It was, to me, one note and boring which is really the worst thing an album can be. Tom Waits on the other hand is very very interesting. And that's what makes it better to me.

Blackstar by David Bowie
Mar 07 2026

A parting gift from the Gods.

Innervisions by Stevie Wonder
Mar 08 2026

A phenomenal album. I never listen to full Stevie at a time and now I have to wonder why that is and what's wrong with me . Living for the city is still one of my all time favorite songs

The Last Of The True Believers by Nanci Griffith
Mar 09 2026

It was fine. Not what I'm looking for though. Another lovely voice but mostly the songs just seem to be there.

Ramones by Ramones
Mar 10 2026

One of the quintessential punk rock albums and incredibly influential. It may be a bit one-note but that note is very very good (and very fast).

Sea Change by Beck
Mar 11 2026

As Willow says in episode 20, "Villains", of Season 6 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: "Bored Now" I'm sorry about his breakup but he really just made a much worse version of Blood on the Tracks

I Against I by Bad Brains
Mar 12 2026

I listened to the twice and reading through the Wikipedia and other reviews it feels like it should be in my wheelhouse but it didn't really stick with me. I'm not familiar with Bad Brains at all but I think all the shred is a turn off.

Ocean Rain by Echo And The Bunnymen
Mar 13 2026

I'm sure it's cliche but man The Killing Moon is a great song.

Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Mar 14 2026

There's really no bad songs here but the tentpoles of Thunder Road, Jungleland, and, to a slightly lower extent, Tenth Avenue Freesze-out and Born to Run are incredibly high. Only going 4 stars because it's not one of my absolute favorites but man it's close. Maybe later it will be

Sheet Music by 10cc
Mar 15 2026

I don't believe there should be any 1 or 5 star reviews because this is the definition of average. And like most 70s soft rock had a hefty dash of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webster influence

Mar 17 2026

Pretty good overall but definitively not my favorite OutKast album. And it's very long (because it's two discrete albums). Still, being the third or fourth best OutKast album is better than most other rap groups entire discography. Looking backwards you might think The Love Below is better based on Andre's higher popularity and prowess but musically and lyrically Speakerboxxx is more appreciated by me.

Exit Planet Dust by The Chemical Brothers
Mar 18 2026

Feels like a 90s action movie montage

Mar 19 2026

I listen to this and I oscillate continuously between reverence, sadness, loneliness, catharsis, joy, longing, and contentedness. What a perfect recording. Love the covers. Love the originals. And love my favorite Nirvana song in particular, About a Girl

Let It Be by The Replacements
Mar 20 2026

This is a timeless piece of art that sounds nothing like what was coming out of 1984. A great hybrid of independent, punk, and college rock with catchy riffs that stick with you. Unsatisfied remains on my short list of all time songs.

Metallica by Metallica
Mar 21 2026

The most popular Metallica album by the masses that most old school Metallica fans. Losing the thrash and the shred and way upping production results in a heavier but more sterile output. It's not actively bad by any stretch to me and MTV loved to scare me with the Unforgiven video back in the day. But it's decidedly not my favorite.

Mar 22 2026

Love. Love. Love. Hot take that NIN Hurt still eclipses this version but obviously still very good. People talk about the covers obviously but the originals stand up as well and The Man Comes Around is clearly biblically epic. And to be brazen enough to have the last song released during your life to be Vera Lynn's We'll Meet Again is incredible.

Foxbase Alpha by Saint Etienne
Mar 23 2026

Realized I didn't review this the day of. It was given to me on 3/22/26 and it is now 4/8. I couldn't have this blank on my page. I have no memory of it at all.

Horses by Patti Smith
Mar 24 2026

I can understand some people not liking this but you can't deny that it's an inflection point for music that occurred. Me, I think it's wonderful.

Django Django by Django Django
Mar 25 2026

Not in a great mood today and this absolutely didn't help. I can't see really why this is differentiated from any of the other 100's of albums that came out in 2012.

White Ladder by David Gray
Mar 26 2026

I like to listen to these albums and then peruse the Wikipedia page to get additional info. Good lord this sold a ton of copies! I never would have guessed. But then again it's soft pop that has a taste the masses enjoy. It wasn't my favorite but I don't think it's actively bad

Mar 27 2026

I used to work in a movie store similar to Blockbuster called movie gallery and every release day there are some people who came in and rented all of the horror movies that came out that week. The big budget ones that released in theaters and all of the B and C movies that were much much worse than those ones. As someone who work there, I never really understood this. I always thought that people would not want to watch those movies made on a shoestring budget with bad acting and no plot but I saw the frequency that people were renting them and figured that there was an audience for everything out there. And similarly, I feel the same way about metal. This music is not for me. I do not care for it and there are a lot of people who do and I'm happy for them. And this is very technically proficient and I'm sure a lot of people's favorite. But not mine.

Music for the Masses by Depeche Mode
Mar 28 2026

Just depressing sounding. This is my 92nd album in this foray and the first repeat artist I believe. I liked violator much more and even then I think I gave that 3 stars. At least that was interesting.

Songs From A Room by Leonard Cohen
Mar 29 2026

These songs are definitely from a room somewhere. I can understand people not dogging Leonard Cohen but this is pleasurable to me

Harvest by Neil Young
Mar 30 2026

Like a warm hug

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Mar 31 2026

I had lots of friends who loved Elliot Smith and were devastated when he passed while I was on college. But he unfortunately never resonated with me. This is fine but I struggle to see what makes it excel.

OK by Talvin Singh
Apr 01 2026

Not sure how much respect I had for the Mercury Prize when this endeavor started but it's not getting larger. This was long and boopy. The only thing elevating it from one star is that at least parts of it are interesting and it's clear that there's a vision being implemented (although it's not for me).

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Apr 02 2026

Don't do heroin kids. But if you're going to have thousands of pounds of heroin moving through your villa in Nellcote, France while recording an album maybe you'll get lucky and make something artistically perfect. But probably not.

Apr 03 2026

I took on this challenge not so much to find new things I've never heard but to reconnect with some classic albums I had known but fell off my radar. I've listened to a bunch of pitchfork top lists, rolling Stones top 500 albums and similar styled lists. So usually when something comes up I've never heard of or totally forgot it's brand new and pretty outside the standard lists . And honestly I think those can be pretty rough. But this. Was. Great. Socially and politically conscious dance music? Sign me up

Dare! by The Human League
Apr 05 2026

Perfectly cromulent. Nice to see an album with hits toward the back.

Apr 06 2026

I anticipated a lot of metal but this is really just some good old fashioned rock and roll. I appreciate that much more.

Apr 07 2026

Kanye needs help. And I don't really listen to his stuff anymore with all the antisemitism and everything else. Taking this all away (to the extent that we can) is kind of important at times though because unfortunately these stories are everywhere and from everyone. So this album? Great. Power>All of the Lights> Monster is huge.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Apr 08 2026

I felt like this is as kinda boring? It had the frenetic early talking heads energy but couldn't match the wit

Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
Apr 09 2026

Liked this one less than Bone Machine but still super interesting over all. Mr. Waits has got some stories to tell and some instruments to play. Special call out to Sixteen Shells From a Thirty-Ought-Six. That song was awesome.

Being There by Wilco
Apr 10 2026

Can totally get why this may be up someone's alley but it's pretty dang good. It is long so if you weren't appreciating it it's definitely a slog. I do think the highs are pretty high but with this many songs it makes it hard to elevate. Love Misunderstood though, especially live. That's the good stuff Look forward to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot at some point in the next 900 days or so.

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
Apr 11 2026

Side A is pretty great but side B is pretty standard. They average out in my book.

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
Apr 13 2026

40 years later and still tricking Republicans. You gotta hand it to Bruce. Playing the long game.

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Apr 14 2026

This was pretty enjoyable. Probably a bit oversung but that seemed like his style. If the tragic events surrounding Jeff didn't occur I have to wonder on it's legacy. As it stands it's a tremendous debut album that unfortunately was the only album released in his lifetime. So does that elevate it more due to the mythos? I don't know

Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
Apr 15 2026

I couldn't tell you why. Maybe my elementary school music teacher played this album in class? But I always associate this album with children music. Not bad by any stretch but it's a weird dichotomy in my head.

Truth by Jeff Beck
Apr 16 2026

Love the music and the guitar and the blues. Not a fan of Rod Stewart's voice. Also, it is the humble view of this reviewer that, this version of Morning Dew is an abomination. But shapes of things, your shook me and the instrumentals are all good

Brothers by The Black Keys
Apr 17 2026

I love this album. In 2010 my girlfriend at the time and I were going through a long distance breakup and for whatever reason this album was what helped me get through it. Belting out Next Girl, or Howling For You, or Everlasting Light just helped. It's what I gravitated to. So yeah for me this one's personal.

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top
Apr 18 2026

Liked this more than I thought I would but then again I'm a sucker for guitar. Every aspiring guitar player thinks their blues scales sound like those on Jesus Left Chicago.

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
Apr 19 2026

Whole album may be one trick but it's a very good trick. Green Onions the song is an all timer but listening to the whole album it all starts to sound the same

Lam Toro by Baaba Maal
Apr 20 2026

It's not that I don't like world music. I do. It's just that I like music with harmony or rhythm or that has flow

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Apr 21 2026

Breathy and full of life. She's got one of those ethereal voices that lingers

Apr 22 2026

Mercury Prize strikes again! As a Radiohead fan I think this probably sounds like Radiohead to those people who don't like Radiohead. Only thing saving this from one star was I liked The Bones of You some.

Apr 23 2026

Atmospheric and a couple of good songs one of which deeply reminded me of Dear Prudence. I've never seen the Virgin Suicides so I didn't have that strong connection but this was fine.

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Apr 24 2026

Blister in the Sun obviously everyone knows but beyond that songs of this album are constantly pushed by my spotify recommendations and I used to always slip them because "eh, I probably only like blister in the sun". The lesson is, as always, I'm and idiot.

Apr 25 2026

Not my top Beatles album is really the only criticism I can offer. Easy five stars. Even the "lower" songs are better than some bands entire output. And surprisingly my favorite moment upon relistening (as I've livestened to this hundreds of time before) is Sgt. Peppers Reprise. Blistering. Also, highly recommended to have a good pair of headphones at the end of A Day In The Life.

Sunshine Hit Me by The Bees
Apr 26 2026

Reading about this album I thought it didn't sound good but it was ok on listening. Pretty harmless and was good background music for folding and putting away laundry

The Blueprint by JAY Z
Apr 27 2026

If I didn't know any better I would think this Jay-Z fella didn't like this other fella named Nas. This is fine if not overplayed at the time. This came out my senior year of high school and it. was. everywhere. I still remember going to parties at my friend's house and all of the Jay-Z and other early 00 hip hop would be playing but when my buddy wanted everyone to leave and be hanging out with his closest friends we'd put on Yessongs and somehow that would clear the room. It was a simpler time.

Eliminator by ZZ Top
Apr 28 2026

Enjoyable and solid. Not as good as Tres Hombres as its devolved into more guitar cock-rock and less blues but the guitars are good. Thankfully this wraps the two ZZ Top albums on the list because I was worried we were going to get some off-the-wall cuts

Kenza by Khaled
Apr 29 2026

This will sound like damning with faint praise but this album had an inherent listenablity that I really enjoyed. I didn't know any of the words that Khaled was singing but I enjoyed how they were sung. I probably won't revisit too often but I appreciated it. Could have been trimmed down though some. At 80 minutes it's a bit long.

The Specials by The Specials
Apr 30 2026

I didn't have a bad time. Plus love most songs and versions about Rudy.

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
May 01 2026

At the Zoo is a metaphor for something but I don't know what

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
May 02 2026

Somehow CCR released three albums in 1969 and they were all good.

May 03 2026

I'm glad this wasn't my first album on this list and instead is in the 100s. Unclear why this is on here at this time

Drunk by Thundercat
May 04 2026

This was something different

The White Album by Beatles
May 05 2026

If you cut out an album's worth of material, you would have possibly the best Beatles album. As it is, you get a lot of songs from all different genres and perspectives. Still very very good overall but not at Sgt Peppers, Revolver, or Rubber Soul though.

Rock Bottom by Robert Wyatt
May 06 2026

This is ethereal, haunting, and tragic music. I probably won't listen again to this too much but I definitely feel like I could occasionally. .

Lady In Satin by Billie Holiday
May 07 2026

This is a bit repetitive to be sure but three stars alone for the fallout vibes.

Entertainment by Gang Of Four
May 08 2026

I've loved this album for a long time and it allowed my entrance into post-punk as a genre. I still think I like proto-punk more but the jaggedness here is really fun.

Parachutes by Coldplay
May 09 2026

Sure it's not rocking out but the songs are *good*. But then again I've always had a soft spot for Don't Panic, Shiver, Everything's Not Lost and others because they were everywhere when I was in high school. Later Coldplay got more boring/bland but this was good

Guitar Town by Steve Earle
May 10 2026

I can't explain it but if this came out in 2026 it would be awful but since it came out in 1986 I like it.

Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
May 11 2026

Second dylan on the list and first of his classic albums. Y'all can hate on his voice and anything else you like but it doesn't matter at the end of the day. This is an easy five stars. If I wanted to be very very nitpicky, the version of Desolation Row on No Direction Home is better than this version. But that's not going to drop any points

Graceland by Paul Simon
May 12 2026

More than any other album on this list I grew up with this, on cassette, with my parents playing it all the time in my formative years. Soft spot for miles here

The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers
May 13 2026

Had never listened to them before and was not what I was expecting. Much darker and harder and then I read the backstory and holy shit that rings true.

Germfree Adolescents by X-Ray Spex
May 14 2026

No real issues or complaints here. Can definitely here the influence in 90s Riotgirrrl music especially in Le Tigre

The Stranger by Billy Joel
May 16 2026

Billy Joel today is just that guy your Boomer parents listen to and had that long term MSG residency and has a terrible brain disease and was married to Christie Brinkley, and had all those car accidents. But once upon a time he put out classic albums and this is the best of them. Side 1 is all great and the tracks 1-7 are all technically "hits". An insane run

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
May 17 2026

Having never heard this I expected something excellent. Instead I got something just ok and very long

Crazysexycool by TLC
May 18 2026

Everyone knows creep and waterfalls but most of this album is pretty good.

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
May 19 2026

Harsh. And awesome.

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
May 20 2026

Holy cow this was better than I expected. That medley in Broken is the kind of thing you don't hear anymore. And this production bangs you upside the head in a good way

Mermaid Avenue by Billy Bragg
May 21 2026

Some highs and lows. But overall pretty good and a cool story behind the album itself. I knew California Stars pretty well but morning else and enjoyed it

Stephen Stills by Stephen Stills
May 22 2026

Hendrix and Clapton in one place. That's pretty impressive

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
May 23 2026

Somehow CCR released three albums in 1969 and they were all good. This was my review for Green River and, by gum, it still works. I did enjoy that one a little bit more than this one but no major complaints.

Superfuzz Bigmuff by Mudhoney
May 25 2026

It's like you can feel the grunge forming in and around them.

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
May 26 2026

Nice and flowy. The kind of album that I won't go back to frequently but when a song from it comes on it's the proverbial breath of fresh air.

Mott by Mott The Hoople
May 27 2026

Easy to listen to. And fun because I don't think I've heard it before. Feel like there will be more Mott The Hoople to come (definitely all the young dudes) so maybe this gets adjusted in the grand scheme of things but no issues at this point

Different Class by Pulp
May 28 2026

Great album. Would be four stars alone just for one of my favorite songs Common People. Just great.

The Sounds Of India by Ravi Shankar
May 29 2026

I don't mind the sitar but that's an awful lot of sitar.

May 30 2026

This album wasn't made for me (white kid from the suburbs) but it's incredible. The glissandos, the alarms, the anger, the message, the diction, the rhymes, the beats, the mixing, the production. It's incredible. Terminator X is incredible. It's all incredible

Apocalypse Dudes by Turbonegro
May 31 2026

Overall the VORP for the vocals is actively a demerit. Which is too bad because musically this is all pretty great. But the juvenility of the words is terrible .

Isn't Anything by My Bloody Valentine
Jun 03 2026

I was only aware of Heartless before hearing this and although I had to dig around on YouTube to find it I was blown away. I've always loved the fuzzy sounds of Shoegaze but this has some very nice melodies in place behind the wall of noise. Putting those together is pretty enjoyable.

Liege And Lief by Fairport Convention
Jun 04 2026

A couple of highs but mostly just sounded like Greensleeves. If there was more like Matty Groves this would have been much more enjoyable and memorable

Electric Prunes by The Electric Prunes
Jun 05 2026

This was all over the place. The parts I liked I thought were pretty good and the parts I didn't were terrible.

In Utero by Nirvana
Jun 06 2026

Harsher than nevermind that's for sure. Feels like Kurt is channeling Frank Black on Tourettes. I think I like their other two albums in the list more (and Bleach too... Where the heck is that?) Still, my least favorite Nirvana is still pretty dang good

New York Dolls by New York Dolls
Jun 07 2026

Glam rock does it again. I'm quickly taking away that over overlooked this genre outside of bowie. This is hard and I think you can feel the undertones of late 70s NYC rock

En-Tact by The Shamen
Jun 08 2026

God as my witness I tried. But just couldn't. This was like unironic Flight Of The Concords.

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Jun 09 2026

Real https://www.reddit.com/r/im14andthisisdeep/ material and I say that lovingly because I loved this album at that age. Now I can see it as a bit self-indulgent for Roger Waters but when was late 70's / early 80's Pink Floyd not?

Cupid & Psyche 85 by Scritti Politti
Jun 10 2026

Never heard of this album before and never heard of this band either. I was expecting based on the name some sort of Italian music. Instead I got some very catchy 80's euro-pop. Not my usual thing but I was nodding along eventually.

Planet Rock: The Album by Afrika Bambaataa
Jun 12 2026

Planet Rock and Renegades of Funk are the obvious classics but this is seminal and foundational hip hop. The beats are strong and the songs are catchy (if not a bit long at times). All in all it's just fun.

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Jun 13 2026

I've never been a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers but when this came up I figured at least it has my favorite song by them, "Can't Stop", on it. And then I realized I had my albums wrong and I got more frustrated by Kiedis's vocals. On FM Radio in the early 00's these songs were everywhere and I honestly think after about a month of hearing them I've turned them off every time. It's not outright offensive but it's also not good to me.

Green by R.E.M.
Jun 14 2026

Couple things Ive learned. REM was more influenced by talking heads (specifically More Songs About Buildings and Food) then I thought. Second, if I was in college in the 80's, REM would have been one of my absolute favorites.

Jun 15 2026

This seemed pretty standard. Not early enough to break new ground and not late enough to try new things. But still it's punk rock so how bad can it be?

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Jun 16 2026

Bridge Over Troubled Water, the song, I always associate with my dog who passed away about 5 years ago. She was very sick and when driving away from the vet where she passed lovingly in my arms this song came on shuffle and cut through me like a knife Miss you Pika.

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Jun 17 2026

I liked Kind of Blue much much more.

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Jun 18 2026

Is I Wish the most perfect song ever? I'm not qualified to say but if I needed to nominate one for the fate of the world against imminent alien obliteration I could do much worse .

Jun 19 2026

I don't know how I can review this. An album so deeply loved and listened to hundreds of times by me already (along with Yessongs). When I was home for break from college, I hung out with my two friends matt and nate. And nate would frequently throw parties at his house. When he wanted people to leave, he would put this on instead of pop/hip hop music and people would eventually clear out. And we three would sit around just listening. It's a great memory Nate died in a car accident nine years ago now and he was only 32. Every day on his death I listen to Close to the Edge. I still miss him a lot.

Debut by Björk
Jun 20 2026

I only know Bjork's "hits" so going back to her roots was pretty interesting. I know she may be over represented on this list but she's one of the more provoking and experimental artists of the late 20th/21st century. Plus I'm heading to iceland for a couple of weeks in July so it was fun to hear in that regard too. Good times

Toys In The Attic by Aerosmith
Jun 21 2026

Pretty standard 70s rock. The hits start the hits but the rest can be left behind. Never really been a huge fan of Aerosmith.

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
Jun 23 2026

Ran through this over the past two days. It's all very pretty. Pretty, gorgeous voice. Pretty bland songs. Pretty long. But it's an incredible endeavor.

Jun 24 2026

This is a great album but some of side B lags (Bob Dylan's Dream, Talkin' WW3 Blues). But moving from his debut to this which is somehow much more humorous and serious at the same time is a great decision

The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter by The Incredible String Band
Jun 25 2026

Someone in 1968 bought this album because they thought it would help them get laid when they brought the man or woman they were interested in back to their place. I gotta admit, I'm not sure if that worked out for that person.

Too Rye Ay by Dexys Midnight Runners
Jun 26 2026

Fun and poppy and a good cover of a Van Morrison song. I usually like my singers who over-sing constantly to actually have a nice singing voice. That wasn't my favorite part

Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson
Jun 27 2026

I've lived in Austin for 20 years and I feel like the pitchforks will be out if I don't rate this at least four stars

Blood On The Tracks by Bob Dylan
Jun 28 2026

One of the greatest albums of all time bar none. This is without even relistening yet. Tragic heartbreak and incredible whimsy. I would love a short film based on Lily Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts and I've thought about making it before

Power In Numbers by Jurassic 5
Jun 29 2026

Jurassic 5 definitely has flow but I've always felt when I listen to an album it all sounds pretty similar. Doesn't mean it's bad it's just a little unmemorable.

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
Jun 30 2026

Coat of Many Colors should be played in every elementary school in the USA and probably Congress too if we're being honest. Great album

Play by Moby
Jul 01 2026

My first thought: oh God an hour of Moby? My final thought: Man I knew a lot of those songs. Did I own this in high school?

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Jul 04 2026

Listened to this driving the golden circle in iceland..I thought it was a pretty good grove but my wife asked if the same song just repeated so that's a nice judgement.

The Modern Dance by Pere Ubu
Jul 05 2026

Not what I was expecting and pleasantly surprised overall. Figured it was gonna be French.

Crocodiles by Echo And The Bunnymen
Jul 06 2026

Not bad at all. Pretty underrated band by my eyes

Joan Armatrading by Joan Armatrading
Jul 07 2026

Pretty ok. I'm guessing this was an influence of Tracy Chapman

Bongo Rock by Incredible Bongo Band
Jul 08 2026

Very pleasantly surprised. Glad it was better then the incredible string band. Bongos>>Strings apparently

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
Jul 09 2026

This album and Tracy's voice feel like a glove. It always fits

Low by David Bowie
Jul 11 2026

I love this album.

Club Classics Vol. One by Soul II Soul
Jul 12 2026

Ugggh. Even if there wasn't a mercury prize you can still feel it. Also it takes brass balls to release an album with this title and then make that music happen

Scream, Dracula, Scream by Rocket From The Crypt
Jul 13 2026

Maybe I'll come back to this but it wasn't my favorite on first listen

At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
Jul 14 2026

Some may say that this is too long or too jammy or too noodley but these people are wrong and should not be listened to. Deeply unserious. This is rock and roll

The Only Ones by The Only Ones
Jul 15 2026

I liked it at first but after five or six tracks it felt like the energy dropped off, it got more nasally, and all started blending together. Proof again that just because something is British doesn't mean it's good

Pump by Aerosmith
Jul 17 2026

Aerosmith smells like cheap booze and cigarettes and was the Nickelback of the 80s.. I will not be taking questions at this time

Pretenders by Pretenders
Jul 18 2026

This is so good. And mystery achievement is already on my top 10 songs of all time on a good day. For a debut album it's pretty special to hit it this hard

Jul 19 2026

As a child of the '90s I definitely appreciated hip hop in that decade. And I can't wait for the 36 chambers as an album to come up on this list. But I never really understood Tupac. The weird dichotomy of gangster rap and strangely sentimental schmaltz never sat well. And now all these years later it still doesn't. It's okay. But it's not that great.

Bug by Dinosaur Jr.
Jul 22 2026

I enjoy Dinosaur Jr. enough but it's never something I actually reach for to put on. It's good though.

Machine Gun Etiquette by The Damned
Jul 23 2026

Straight forward rock and roll. Love it. Wasn't familiar with the album or band but I think I'll come back to this one again

Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos
Jul 24 2026

Liked what I heard so far but didn't listen to it all yet. I will come back. Came back to this and it was all pretty good!

Moving Pictures by Rush
Jul 25 2026

Pretty dang ok. I liked rush a lot more when I was in junior high. But now it's all good. I did meet Geddy Lee at a wedding once and he was a very nice guy.

Armed Forces by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jul 26 2026

This is probably by inflection point on Mr. Costello

Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi
Jul 27 2026

This was admittedly better than I thought it would be.

This Is Fats Domino by Fats Domino
Jul 28 2026

Obviously very formative and important from that stance warrants placement on this list. But is also pretty basic but also very fast!

Life Thru A Lens by Robbie Williams
Jul 29 2026

Nothing wrong with pop music but this is just basic. Another overly inflated British album on this list.

Sincere by Mj Cole
Jul 31 2026

Will (probably) come back. Wish I didn't though. Just bland house. They say 1001 albums you must listen to but I disagree sometimes.

Blunderbuss by Jack White
Aug 01 2026

I think Jack White is a genius. I know others don't but everything he touches is gold.

The Pleasure Principle by Gary Numan
Aug 02 2026

Went in with low expectations but ended up throughly enjoying it. Cars is a banger but all of Side A is excellent.

Aug 03 2026

It's got great production but I don't know if I like it. That's probably not great.

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Aug 04 2026

Just a tremendous work of beauty.

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Aug 05 2026

Not the first to say it ans not the last. Musically phenomenal but Morrissey is such a whiner. So balancing that all out puts it at a three I guess

Under Construction by Missy Elliott
Aug 06 2026

I was just thinking yesterday I hope Missy Elliott was on the list and here we are. She's one of if not the greatest female rapper and may be the most important artist in hip hop from the late 90s to early 00s. Great record

Aug 07 2026

First song: ok this is ok Last song: why was this 73 minutes long oh my God. It all ended up droning together (like most techno/house does to me). Fine to drive to but nothing else discernable

Moon Safari by Air
Aug 08 2026

Like this much much more than the Virgin Suicides Soundtrack. La Femme d'argent hitting those Deodato vibes and then Sexy Boy (which I had no idea was by Air but I knew pretty well) and then I was well on my way to just vibing the whole way through. Definitely will be listening to this again. Not quite 5 stars in my book but probably the strongest 4.49 I can muster.

Marquee Moon by Television
Aug 09 2026

Take early talking heads + post punk sensibilities+ epic guitars - any sense or humility . I've loved this album for 20 years ever when it was rumored phish may cover it in 2009 (they did exile on main st instead). But I It's not worth any point docking but I do like this version of Marquee Moon more https://open.spotify.com/track/22U0siziTRGRvnM9I61t5E?si=OP7IWl62SdqwIdSMoAxkfQ&utm_source=copy-link&sci=spotify%3Acard-config%3A0BVbGRHYspwgLq93qoY2UO If your a fan you should check that one out

Haunted Dancehall by The Sabres Of Paradise
Aug 10 2026

You know I actually wanted to get into club haunted dancehall more than club aqua. There's more joy in my head from that singular line than this 74 minute behemoth. It's not as bad I think as the other reviews say but it gets a demerit for being so long. If this was 37 minutes I'm digging it a lot more.

First Band On The Moon by The Cardigans
Aug 11 2026

Not bad by any stretch. Obviously everyone knows Lovefool but most of the other songs are pretty great too

Immigrés by Youssou N'Dour
Aug 12 2026

(obviously) came in with no context and liked this quite a bit. Musically it had me moving.

California by American Music Club
Aug 13 2026

After finding this on YouTube I dug it. Feels like it lays directly between The Replacements and The Hold Steady as it moves forward into The National and that's not a bad place to be

Modern Kosmology by Jane Weaver
Aug 14 2026

This was just what I wanted and needed today. Never listened to this before but it's lovely and very Twin Peaks sounding in the best ways . Could go between 4 and 5 stars but for today it's a 5.

Aug 15 2026

I have a lot of struggles with Eminem. Obviously there's terribly misogynistic and homophobic lyrics all over the place and the disjointedness here is jarring, one song is violent, then fun, then Stan, then I hate my fans. It's so chaotic and not my style. I am glad he seemed to get his life back together though.

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Aug 16 2026

This was everywhere back in the day but I hadn't really heard it beyond Clint Eastwood. It's good!

The Rise & Fall by Madness
Aug 17 2026

This was fine but nothing really to write home about. I grew up in the 90s ska wave and it is a bit funny to hear the 80s ska wave I wasn't fully aware of

Smash by The Offspring
Aug 18 2026

Never really cared for the Offspring. Even though I was in their target audience of angtsy teenagers. They always seemed to be like older guys trying hard to seem cool and that's probably not true but it was my perception. Anyway, this was ok.

Giant Steps by The Boo Radleys
Aug 19 2026

Ok but way too long. I guess cds are a scourge in some ways. This would have been much better if cut to 37 minutes because individually it's not bad at the song level. The baroqueness and shoegaze portions I like but it just keeps going and it loses it's momentum about halfway through

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Aug 20 2026

I struggle with Blonde on blonde as I know canonically it's the "best" and it's super strong but it's not very fun.
