Bit boring. Not a huge fan of the talky singing and don't rate the lyrics or vocals

Ik ben allergisch voor Belle & Sebastián. Heb het geprobeerd, maar kreeg weer jeuk over m’n hele lichaam.

Not a fan of Belle & Sebastian apart from a couple of tunes, and this album hasn’t changed that. It’s fine, but his voice annoys me and they’re not a band I’d ever choose to put on.

Music critic fodder. Trying to be objective but it's just not my vibe. Wishy washy. 4/10

I've never listened to a Belle & Sebastian album before and this was exactly what I expected it to sound like. A couple of good songs but nothing to get the ears twitching. My big take away was wondering if the boy who done wrong again was the same boy who had the Arab strap.

It was good, but got annoying. I can only handle them in small bursts.

A little to soft spoken indie for me. Me and the Major was the standout.

This album was unknown to me,but I am a newbie to listening to an album from start to finish. I feel it like is was popular in it’s time, the late 90’s. The musicians were amazing. From guitar to trumpet to harmonica, and piano, I was impressed. I loved every tracts beat and calming effect. I was disappointed in most of the lyrics. My favorites were Don’t Look Back like Dylan in the Movies and Judy Dreams of Horses. On the whimsical side, I wonder how many of this bands’ members are parents of a Wiggles band member? It reminds me of an album to get the Wiggles out for adults. Calming and peaceful.

Just didn’t do much for me. Pleasant overall. I did like “Mayfly”. One of the songs reminded me of the Smiths but I couldn’t make the effort to go back and listen again. Ok.

02/01 - Yesterday I worked on a few things in the manufacturing model before transitioning to the drum storage building. First, I worked on creating and adding the pipe guard to the model. Then I worked on moving all comments from past BBS to the 31Jan set. Lastly, I worked on moving UL details from the Apothecary model to the Train B model. I thought this album was pretty solid. Although the songs all sounds pretty much the same I really enjoyed the genre of the music and even saved a few of the songs. Seems like an album that was ahead of its time. My favorite songs were Get Me Away From Here, Im Dying and Me and the Major.

If this was anymore middle of the road there'd be white lines down the middle of the album. Having said that, the storytelling is decent and the melodies are occasionally quite catchy. The full orchestra adds something and makes it a little less boring. His voice is shit though and that has always annoyed me. Hipstery friends can never understand why I don't like these. Its because they are fundamentally dull. 2/5

3.9 + A gentle and catchy collection of songs that explore romantic complications and such. Pretty novel in its sound and songs have some unexpected chord structures and sometimes take different directions in satisfying ways.

Love Belle and Sebastian! They do always remind me of that Jack Black quote from Hi-Fidelity calling them "sad bastard music," but I don't mind being a sad bastard sometimes. His vocals always make me feel so dreamy. They have this strange ethereal quality to me, like when I get done listening to their albums, I'm like does a band this emotionally expressive really exist. I don't want to ever see them live because I feel like it would break the spell for me. "Me and the Major" is maybe the most driving head-bopper of a B&S song I've heard. "Fox in the Snow," ooof. "Get me away..." is a classic. Love that sine sound on Mayfly...wtf was that. A stylophone, I'm getting one. "all I wanted to do was sing the saddest song," achieved. Love their trumpet player. - 5

Great alternative music, creative songwriting. A groove

I'm going to keep this short, this is my type of album. Very moody and melancholic and reminds me a lot of Vashti Bunyan, which is probably why I like it so much. But mainly the melodies on this album are perfect. They're calm, soothing, and make you feel like you should hop on your bike and ride around the neighborhood waving at random people. I am a little confused though, who's Belle and who's Sebastian! *57 lauging crying emojis*!!!

First album that I knew nothing about going into it. I’m a few songs in and I don’t think this is an album for me. Feels very Bob Dylan in that stream of consciousness type singing along with the harmonicas and lazy singing tone. This feels like the kind of album that was a hit in European coffee shops which is probably why I never heard of it prior. One of my goals for this album exercise is to listen to all the albums as fairly as I can so I’m at least enjoying listening to something I haven’t heard before. But I also feel like I’ve heard this before. Like Dylan in the Movies is pretty enjoyable, but it still feels like Dylan in the Music. Listening to If You’re Feeling Sinister and it sounds like the kind of song that would play in an indie movie as the main character is driving through the new big city or something. In looking at the album cover, it also doesn’t do much to stand out other than the red filter. Look, I’m sure some of us are going to love this album but this one, while good at times, doesn’t make its case for being on this list. Maybe I’m just feeling sinister.

The first blind listen for me. I've heard the name, but never any music from Belle & Sebastian. A little research has informed me that this band contains neither a Belle nor a Sebastian. Instead, it was formed by two Scottish guys named Stuart. False advertisement aside, this is a decent project. It opens strong, then settles into an even keel that mostly faded into the background for me. On that note, it would probably be a great "staring out the window on a roadtrip" album. I think I've heard the title track before, but I can't remember where. I will give credit for the production because all the instruments sound so crisp and clear. But even when the instrumentation picked up on certain songs (like Mayfly!), the vocals remained subdued and almost comatose. They finally pick up a bit in the closing track, but too little too late. I'm sure this is one of those albums that I would've appreciated more when it was released, but 25 years later, there have been plenty of other artists and bands with more engaging work in the alternative/indie spheres. It's alright, and it certainly sounds nice, but I didn't get much out of it. Maybe I'm not feeling sinister enough. Favorite tracks: The Stars of Track and Field, If You're Feeling Sinister, Mayfly. Album cover: a woman who seems to be pondering Kafka's novel about bureaucratic pitfalls and hijinks. I like the picture, but I don't think I can deduce the significance. Does The Trial actually relate to the album? Who knows. And again, seeing a woman on the cover reminds me that this is a band of Stuarts, and we did not get any vocals from the eponymous Belle (who for legal purposes does not exist). 3/5

I've tried at least 3 times now to listen to this whole CD. Everything feels like I should like this CD. But every time I try I get about 4 songs in and it drags and I want to shut it off.

Enjoyable instrumentation. Like Dylan in the Movies and the title track are most notable highlights. However vocal delivery can become quite repititive at times. But overall it's a very good listen

I really love this album. It has a warm, indie feel that creates a peaceful and whimsical atmosphere. The melodies are beautiful, reminiscent of Nick Drake, but with a surprisingly modern feeling. The vocal delivery is smooth and satisfying, the lyrics are fun and interesting, the musical performance is breath-taking. Before today, I haven't even heard of this band, but now I am definitely going to be going back to this album. These songs have such satisfying progression, it honestly gave me goosebumps. As far as new albums go, this is my favorite I've heard in a long time. Favorite track: If you're feeling sinister Least Favorite track: Mayfly

Not a well known band in the Netherlands. There albums only stayed in the album top100 for 1 or 2 weeks. It was pleasant to listen to.

Voice reminds me of Matt Costa a bit Fox in the snow was nice and there's some big sax in Mayfly

The hipstersauce my ears crave. Too many kids screaming in the background. Coupla bangers, like don't look back like dylan and title track.

This has been one of the more promising albums I've heard so far. I think it's a bit mellow for morning listenings while working but I will come back to this.

I had only heard Bell & Seb in passing, so this full-album-listen was a first for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it led me to The Boy With The Arab Strap.

Really like this album, although I may be a little biased as they are local to me. Nothing ground-breaking musically, but a beautiful collection of ear-pleasing songs. Only slight let down are the recorders on 'Judy and the Dream of Horses' - nobody needs that.

Imagine my surprise when I learned Belle & Sebastian was not a duo consisting of Belle and Sebastian. Great album. Really reminiscent of that early indie sound like Neutral Milk Hotel (but less weird). Really solid album. Saved this one for a rainy day and happy I did.

I'm getting more lazy with listening to these and with my reviews but I really enjoyed this album and 100% would listen to this again. Maybe this weekend in the sun.

I had so many friends who were into this back in the day. I didn't get it then and I don't get it now. Proto-emo, cutsie-tootsie, shoegaze bullshit. The only reason this got 2 stars is because the production quality is excellent.

This is all a bit twee for me, though I understand the appeal. Best track: The Stars of Track & Field
