Am I just a sucker for raunchy saxophones and sinister sounding music?
Was having a bad day. couple of beers and this CD fixed me.
I get the appear, sad songs are sad. Not sure if I needed a whole CD of this though. Much like Leonard Cohen, I'm sure there's lots of good lyrics here but don't have the patience to keep track of it.
Haven't you heard, my name rhymes with Elvis

Maybe a 5?
half-listened, distracting day
What a strange album
Biased against coldplay?
almost a 4
Meh
Didnt get much of a chance to listen but also dont want to go back and listen, so maybe a 3
Close to a 5. Loving the saxophone
Meh
There are a lot of lyrics here but I dont have the time / patience to listen to it properly
Maybe a 3
Cuba
3.5
Has a Modest Mouse sort of vibe going on. Feels good.
3.5
Haven't you heard, my name rhymes with Elvis
Glad I listened to this CD. I get why it's in the list. Honestly it is too much noise for me.
First half of the CD is a 4, but man does it take a turn.
3.5 - I dunno man, I am normally into Jazz but this one feels like it got in because 'James Brown!'. The crowd has to be in it. Go take a look at Sam Cooke - Live At The Harlem Square Club and listen to that crowd. Maybe just not in the mood.
Was having a bad day. couple of beers and this CD fixed me.
Yeap, it's a Punk band doing a punk album. Not feeling it today.
Feels like this used to be good and hasn't aged well.
Yeah It's Iron Maiden and I like Iron Maiden. This is what they do. Nothing special in here to elevate it to 5 but a great CD none the less
I've tried at least 3 times now to listen to this whole CD. Everything feels like I should like this CD. But every time I try I get about 4 songs in and it drags and I want to shut it off.
I don't get it?
These all sound the same to me? It's pleasant to listen to, but I'm falling asleep here.
Nice album, good sound, obviously knows his way around the guitar. Glad I listened, reasonable background music, but otherwise there's nothing here to pull me in.
This must be what schizophrenia is like
The first half of the album is a 2. The second half of the album is a 4.5 Maybe split the difference here?
Am I just a sucker for raunchy saxophones and sinister sounding music?
OK, I listened to it. There was noise. I guess I liked the noise at the time. Feels a lot like another band called Pavement, if I were to go and not listen to anything by Blur ever again I am sure I'd be just fine and would probably forget that they existed.
Sounds a lot like Greta Van Fleet! (Did I make you cringe?! :D ) More seriously, Zeppelin is great. Had not listened to this CD before, a bit of a departure from their popular stuff, had a lot of fun listening to this on repeat.
3.5 - Sorry, my last couple of CDs have been 4 or 5, this doesn't make the cut.
Yeah I dunno about this one. I keep flipping between 2.5 and 4 stars. The middle of the album started to drag / sound same-y and then a Viking song appears out of nowhere? If it wasn't so long then 4 stars. If he didn't play literally every instrument, a 2.5 stars. Feels like just over a 3 for me,
Obviously there are a couple of big hits on here (Welcome to the Jungle / Paradise City / Sweet Child O'Mine). The rest of the album is good. Very solid CD, not convinced it needs 5 start though.
"At about 2:59 into the song, Clayton's voice cracks under the strain; once during the second refrain on the word "shot", then on the word "murder" during the third refrain, after which Jagger is faintly heard exclaiming "Woo!" in response to Clayton's powerful delivery. Upon returning home, Clayton suffered a miscarriage, attributed by some sources to her exertions during the recording."
I get the appeal, but not for me
Meh, It was good, but I don't get it / know if anything stood out here for me.
Don't needs to calm down a bit. :)
3.5
3.5, just sort of fades into the background for me. Bumping down because it's the Beatles, I'm expecting this to be rated higher that it deserves.
I get the appear, sad songs are sad. Not sure if I needed a whole CD of this though. Much like Leonard Cohen, I'm sure there's lots of good lyrics here but don't have the patience to keep track of it.
3.5 - CD gave me a chuckle so we will round up today :)
This feels like Country being country. 2.5, but will bump because 'Busy Being Blue' has a 'Shine on you crazy Diamond' feeling going on and I dig it
This is a really great album of a lot of good covers. If these were all written by the band it'd be an easy 5.
A good set of covers, makes me want to listen to some more Sam Cooke

meh.
What is this? And how can I get slightly more but not a lot more than this?
I dunno, I got 4 songs in and, just, couldn't. be. bothered. Not a fan of country. Trying to keep an open mind here. But I don't understand why this is here.
I don't really like listen to rap, but Kanye continues to surprise me on this list. Everything on here has its place, and it gels! ... The only real miss here is 'Monster', and I suspect it is a 'I really don't like Nicki Minaj at all'. Given this isn't my genre, I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt here. The fact that I'm even considering a 5 here (for a rap album!) means it's gotta take it
Just the kind of 90's I like to run into
Obviously they are having a lot of fun here. Love the vibe, just not digging it today I guess. Maybe don't take my word for it, I just gave a top-10 album here a 4 soooooo......
Meh. Obviously Ace of Spades is a classic. Everything else seems to blend together.
Probably actually a 2 but I am giving the benefit of the doubt because I didnt really give the album a chance
Very glad I got this over Christmas, otherwise may not have been in the mood
I have apparently only heard Queens hits, this was brand new to me and I'm pleasantly pleased that this came up. 4.5 for sure. I suspect Queen will carry it's ranking higher than it should, so rounding down today :)
A high 4 for sure!
Brimful of Asha is good. At times I get a bit of an Incubus vibe. It's not terrible, but I don't get what this brings that other bands do better.
I used to listen to this album a lot, but it fell off my radar after University. Nice to have this come back into my life Is it a 5? Probably not. But I'll let it loop a few times before I move to the next CD, if only for nostalgia's sake. 🍺 5-4=Unity's sampling of "Take Five" -> Feels good.
Meh, This is a low-3 for me. I am okay with the beats / layering / vibe here, but not a fan of the singer. Tempted to give a 2 here, but a little more impressive there's only 2 people here doing this.
I mean I guess if this is your thing. Obviously the energy is there.
Definitely was getting a Lion King vibe, and then they played Mbube! 🤣🤣🤣 A nice surprise! I'm tempted to give this a 5 because it certainty exceeded my expectations going in.
So it's like Beasties Boys, but not as good? What am I missing here. A high 2, but giving the benefit of the doubt here and assuming my 'I don't like rap' is getting in the way
Bowie being Bowie It's not a 5 but it's good!
My high-school level French is failing me here, but the funky beats speak to me.
Probably liked this more than I should have
I get why this is here, there's a lot of layers here to unwind, and there's the semblance that the band doesn't really care what you think. Not for me. Maybe just don't have the patience today. Or maybe it's just not very good.
I remember listening to this CD a lot during University. Electric Feel / Kids is a very solid 1-2 punch. Time to pretend is okay. The rest of the CD is meh, even through the nostalgia glasses. I expected more here, and didn't get it.
OK, so they re-arranged some classical music, put it onto a live album, and then released it? Not unpleasant, just not sure why this needs to be here. Am I missing something?
This is the exact kind of country that I hated before listening to this playlist. Nothing's changed so far. "I feel so saaaaaaaaaaddddd that <pause> you left meeeeeee, <pause> I'll drive a waaaaaaaaaaayy, in <pause> my truck" /s
I don't know what's going on here. Every time I think that it's complete trash, they go off and do something just a little bit different and I'm back into it. Every time I'm back into it, they change again and it's back to being trash. Ave Gengis Khan itself does this about 6 different times. At the end of it all, I feel thrashed and tired.
Hauntingly beautify. Battery / Master of Puppets is a strong 1-2 opener. Lots of energy throughout the album. Orion is a fantastic interlude so that we can finish out strong with Damage Inc. This is a low 5 for me
Very pleasant, but then it stopped and at the end, I'm not sure if I remembered listening to anything at all.
I have been low on S&G, but this one is not bad at all :)
Not much for country / folk, but this is pretty good.
4.5 - Fought myself for a while on this one. Big fan of Rush and have heard this CD before, so trying to weigh against my existing biases. The Camera Eye s the only one that lags behind the bar, but it's 1/4th of the album! It's still a good song, but Rush sets a high bar. In the end, there's too much good stuff on here.
Obviously the structure is repetitive, but can't deny that this is good.
I didn't really notice it
Nothing overly exciting here, just a very pleasant to listen to.
Been meaning to listen to Muse for a while, did not disappoint.
Feels like I'm going to regret not giving this a 5.
This whole album feels like an inside joke that I've heard once that I was never really a part of. Talking Heads is supposed to be good, right? It's the second one from there that I've been really meh on. All I get is 'different', and not in a particularly good way.
3.5, obviously they jammed really well here, but I dunno ,I didn't feel the hooks I guess. Giving them the benefit of the doubt here.
How do you rate an album where you thought most of it was trash? I wish she would sing more! Three really good tracks but the rest of it doesn't do it for me. * Drunk in Love * Rocket * Heaven
Clearly Side B doesn't keep up with Side A, but that's hard to do when you're trying to keep up with War Pigs / Paranoid / Iron Man. This is a 4.5 for me, rounding up today.
Look, I don't listen to a lot of Metallica. Their hits are great: Master of Puppets, One, Battery, Enter Sandman, Nothing else matters etc. etc.. I'll admit that I like more of their melodic stuff as opposed to their metal (if you can even distinguish between the two) But... did anything really happen between Master of Puppets and their first intermission? Feels like they slogged through the first half of the concert. Which is fine, I guess, maybe you need to be a bigger Metallica fan to appreciate it? And what does the orchestra add here? There's a ton of opportunity to do something different with their songs. Instead it feels a lot like a giant cover of their own songs. And the orchestra needs to be structured, so you really lose the freedom / improv that you would normally have without them there. So, you've got a 2h album that is at least 40m of filler (the other half is fairly decent, but wouldn't you rather listen to the originals?), and an orchestra which is playing really well, but doesn't add anything. Not sure how we can go higher than 3 here. The exception to all of this would be One and The Call of Ktulu. Very well done!
2.5 maybe? Someone needs to turn down the "80's special effects" knob here.
A CD about Adele's high school sweetheart break-up. Luckily at 21 she has lots of time to find true love. /s In all seriousness, this is a good CD.
Glad I went the 40m route. Ace of Spaces (great!), followed by a bunch of lesser clones (meh). Capricorn stands out as being a little different than the rest (in a good way) Would this album been better if we had looped all of their live versions of Ace of Spades over and over? Frankly It'd probably sounds just about the same.
I'm sorry, but an average of below 3 stars is criminal here. I'm not even a hip-hop fan!
Surprised to see this averaging sub-3.
3.5, will round up today. The album definitely grooves but not sure if it did anything unusual or out of the ordinary.
How is this album not even averaging a 3 right now? Looks like y'all don't like a female singer? GTFO
There is some good things in here, and there is some complete trash in here. You have to respect the range in music types in here, but overall it feels messy more than anything else Could also be that I'm biased against Rap too...
An easy reminder that this isn't supposed to be the best 1001 albums ever ;) Look, in all honesty these guys are playing hard and fast, and that takes some skill. Anytime it seems like they are about to get into their rhythm and do something, they either abruptly end the song or they've got vocals that are basically impossible to understand or listen to. Does their talent give them a second star? Not today
I want to give this more, but ultimately I'm just bored here.
Yeah it's the 80's but this album is good. Trails off a bit at the end for me but otherwise a very solid album
Every time I think this album is going to do something interesting, it disrupts the groove and switches beats. 2.5, going to round up here because I suspect there are layers I am missing here.
Nostalgia-based 5 start, not sure if it deserves this but it's at least a 4.
Keep going back and forth on this one, started bad, until I started really listening to the words and the emotions trying to be conveyed here. On second listen, it turns out that I really dislike the first two songs. The rest of the album is good. Not great, but good. Let's call it a 4, with two really bad songs weighing it down a star
3.5, Id rather listen to Black Sabbath / Metallica / Iron Maiden.
Last two songs are great. Unfortunately it's a bunch of garbage in order to get there.
Yeah if I was good at music and made an album of instrumental covers I'd probably sounds pretty good too.
obviously there is the "it's the 80's" piece to get over, but lots of good songs here!
3.5, was going to round to 4 but there's a lot of covers on here as well. Interestingly, I really liked it when they played more of their experimental stuff (as opposed to the covers).
The first 4 songs are complete trash. The rest of the album is pretty good, butt you need to accept / adjust for the sound being created here. But you still need to get past the first 4 songs. 1.5 stars
3.5 - Going to assume that I've got a bias against bluegrass and round up. This would be an easy 4 if it wasn't 2h+ long. But I get that this is more of a "piece of history" rather than an album you put on and listen to.
Longer than advertised 🥁
Seems like this should be my thing, just not in the mood for it.
Definitely felt more like blues then country, which I appreciated!
