Dr. Octagon

Deltron 3030 is the better Automator project, but this was a fun listen.

This was hard to get through. Some tracks start promissing enough but don't ever develop into something enjoyable for me. Guess I know why most electronic music was so repellent to me when I was younger, if this is what was available at the time.

Have a soft spot for this brand of synth-pop. I know in good conscience this could be left out of a 1001 albums list, but Don't You Want Me is just perfect so this gets a 4 from me.

A puzzling inclusion, there's at least 3 Roots albums that would make more sense in the list than this. It's a fine album on its own, but I fail to see it as "1001 albums" material.

Beatles
3/5
The least good of the really good Beatles albums and the one I would probably leave out of my personal list if I was ever inclined to make one. Some of their best songs among some really forgettable tunes, unfortunately. There's an amazing single album in here somewhere, but the thing just drags a bit too much as a double album.

Call it lowered expectations because of the ratings, but I believe this album is very underrated over here. I found it to be pretty tight concept album that doesn't overstay its welcome, a very nice find.

I hesitate quite a bit between a 2 (questionable choice) and 3 (reasonable choice) for this. It's certainly not my cup of tea, but ultimately I believe it has a distinct enough sound palette to be a worthwhile entry to the list.

This is one of the albums that is very clear-cut for my rating system. Will I ever listen to it again? Very likely no. Do I think this was a worthwhile listen and that other should go through the same experience? Yes, thus this earns my 3 as "I understand why this was listed, even though it's not my thing.".

Aimee Mann
3/5
I was excited to see an Aimee Mann album on this list, but I must admit I was a bit puzzled by the choice itself. I'd say any one of her next three releases would have been a better choice, especially Bachelor No. 2. This remains a very good album, but I'd struggle to justify its inclusion in such a limited format list. Since I do believe Aimee Mann is more than worthy of a nod, I'm giving this a 3, but it would surely be upgraded to 4/5 if a more relevant album of hers was selected. If you enjoyed this at all, I would recommend digging deeper into her discography, as there's certainly more good stuff to be found, even better stuff for a good portion of her career!

Shake it Off and Bad Blood are as bad as Style and Wildest Dreams are good. Very uneven for sure but I can understand its inclusion in such a list. There are better pop albums to represent the 2010s, but it's hard to ignore its impact overall.

This is tough to rate. To me it's "lesser Zeppelin" but lesser Zeppelin is still very good. I'm just rating it low-ish because of the real state this occupies in a list with such a limited space. There at least 4, maybe 5 LZ albums I'd rate higher for the list.
