The Isley Brothers
4/5
First one I’m listening to. It was groovy, not something I’ve ever really listened to before. Not sure what my ratings are going to look like but it was a fun listen
Björk
2/5
It seems like an interesting record… Feels like there is too much going on, kind of grating on my ears.
I can see how this was influential for its time (I wouldn’t have been able to guess when this came out) but it just isn’t pleasant to listen to. Is dissonant the right term?
Rating might be a bit harsh, but I’m still getting my bearings here.
Still finding myself tapping along though so she must be doing something right…
3/5
It's alright. Nothing amazing but I could see myself listening to these songs in the background at least. It's kind of funny how british they are though.
Curtis Mayfield
3/5
Depeche Mode
2/5
At first I thought I was really going to like this album, I’m a sucker for synths and stuff. The first song I really did like but I just got bored with the rest of the album. It just kept going on and on. It’s really funny that it ends with moonlight sonata though.
Regarding last album as I didn’t comment, it’s good probably not going to relisten often or ever though. You can really tell it’s from a movie soundtrack and I feel like I’ve felt inspiration from it in other shows/movies. Maybe I’ll check out the movie someday.
Nirvana
4/5
I find Kurt Cobain’s voice really grating on the ears was my initial impression. It grew on me as I listened though. By the end I was really enjoying it. Great performance.
Booker T. & The MG's
4/5
I really liked this. Fun listen. Was tapping along the whole time, probably my favourite album so far.
Pet Shop Boys
2/5
So 80s…. I like track 6 I guess but the rest…
Nevermind most of these songs are genuinely annoying. There was maybe one song I liked on this entire album

I don't know why but I genuinely laughed when i first heard his voice come in. Second song was OK. Some of these lyrics are so corny.
Eminem
2/5
One more sound effect and I kill myself
Green Day
5/5
Favourite so far honestly knock everything down a star that arctic monkeys album was not 5
Dolly Parton
4/5
I did not realize Dolly was chill like this. I was unfamiliar with her game.
Iggy Pop
3/5
Genuinely don’t remember listening to this but I did
Stereolab
2/5
fr*nch also kind of annoying
Ice Cube
3/5
He sounds so aggressive in most of these songs lmao
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
He’s probably the best lyricist out there, and it’s really cool how he’s able to tell a story with this album. That being said I just don’t think most of these songs… sound good? Like I wouldn’t listen to these songs individually. It’s probably like 5 stars if i were rating like a piece of art or poetry or something but in terms of music I feel like it needs to actually sound good to be that. This is a very light 4
Rufus Wainwright
4/5
First 2 songs were really good, never really heard anything like it. Next couple weren't as good but not bad. Overall a solid album.
The La's

I like the slower songs on this album. Rest is just OK.

it's fine i guess the first couple songs had me thinking this was gonna suck ass. It's probably somewhere between 2 and 3 but I've been giving everything 3s lately so 2 it is

It is a little boring but her voice is so good i don't really care.
Lana Del Rey

Bit boring. Could see myself liking this more if it was sad boy hours but still a solid album, I enjoyed :]
Very light 4, probably more like a 3.5

Wish this was on spotify. Didn't think I would be big into this but holy I was by the end.
Radiohead
5/5
damn. the harp on Motion Picture Soundtrack is so good.
a-ha
3/5
While take on me is certainly a classic, the rest of this album is not particularly interesting. It feels like generic synthpop, which I don't mind, but it doesn't make for anything special.
I did not realize that they were from Norway, so I guess I can cut them some slack on the lyrics.
Favourites: "Take on me", and "The sun always shines on T.V." is alright too.
Ms. Dynamite

It’s alright. Wall Street shuffle is the only song I would say is worth listening to. Lots of ideas but not very refined.
The 13th Floor Elevators
3/5
Alright. Nothing really stuck out to me other than it sounded quite old. I'm finding it hard to enjoy music from that far back on account of the sound quality. In summary: very same-y not much of note with the critical reception but not bad. light 3 is probably a bit generous.
3/5
The Smiths
3/5
Pere Ubu
1/5
Some of the songs are genuinely annoying. 'Laughing' in particular. There are glimpses of good music here and there but just not an enjoyable listen.
Dexys Midnight Runners
4/5
Good album. Some very catchy tunes.
R.E.M.
3/5
Not their best but enjoyable nevertheless. 3.5 from me.
Cheap Trick
2/5
I find it funny that japan hosted an American band like cheap trick so soon after ww2 and all that happened in that. Pretty meh album though.
Sonic Youth
3/5
Solid album. Pretty emo and nothing stands out too much to me. But enjoyable nevertheless.
3.5/5
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
The Sugarcubes
3/5
Nina Simone
5/5
Felt this in my core. Wonderful album.
The Lemonheads

Neil Young
4/5
Really liked this album. Good blend of Folk and Rock including some absolute classics.
Brian Eno
5/5
At first, I thought I wasn't going to like this album. It has a very strange sound, and it doesn't ease you into it. As the album progresses it sucks you in, and by the end of it, I was feeling emotional. A unique album that I am very glad was on this list, as I doubt I would have come across otherwise. Definitely one of my favourites so far.
Christine and the Queens
3/5
Fleetwood Mac
5/5
The Rolling Stones
3/5
THE STONES
Tim Buckley
4/5
Way better than the other one we got. Pleasant street is a bop.
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
Alright. To be honest wasn't really paying attention to the lyrics and apparently that was the main selling point. The music was not particularly standout to me but not bad at all.
David Bowie
4/5
Kind of eerie. Loved it.
The Byrds
3/5
Dr. Octagon
2/5
Strange album. I don’t really understand why he’s role playing an alien surgeon thing. It doesn’t sound terrible, but I don’t find it particularly enjoyable to listen to. I think the interludes/skits were my favourite parts somehow, off-putting as they were.
I would say it’s a little below a 2.5/5 so I’m not going to round up.
Ian Dury
2/5
one of the albums of all time for sure.
Rage Against The Machine
5/5
As good as punk gets. Classic.
The Smiths
4/5
Conflicted about this album. Not because apparently one of these guys is an asshole, but because I think the backing tracks do sound good, but for some reason the vocals sound super grating to me. Almost dissonant. I’ll give them a soft 3 but not sure I will come back to this ever. Maybe it’s an acquired taste.
Ok on further listen ‘What she said’ is kinda sick.
I’m now not sure about anything somehow my opinion has taken a 180. I’m a mess. I feel like the instrumentals are awesome but the vocals… but then again maybe that adds to the charm??? I think this one needs more than one listen. Scratch what I said not coming back to it. If anything, this is a reminder that these albums deserve to be listened to all the way through…. Maybe except kollaps…
Burning Spear
3/5
not much of a reggae guy. easy listening for sure but didn't find it very interesting.
Stan Getz
5/5
Doves
5/5
Nice melancholy feel. Probably overrating it, but I did really enjoy this. Maybe just fit my mood perfectly at the time.
Jimmy Smith
3/5
Fishbone
4/5
Finally feel like I’ve been given a hidden gem from this list. Never heard anything about this group, or any of their songs, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. Unique and super energetic.
The Clash
3/5
I can respect that it is a progenitor of punk but most of the songs are duds.
Bobby Womack
4/5
skibidi rizz
Christina Aguilera
3/5
It's a fine pop album; couple good songs here and there but lots of meh. The thank you to the fans one was kind of weird.
4/5
Butthole Surfers
3/5
Strange album with some good instrumentals here and there. Not sure what the idea was when making this... After reading up on it it's a bit cooler but I'm really not sold on the whole genre of psychadelic rock. If the intention of this album was to give someone nightmares it would be a 5 star but unfortunately this is supposed to be music.
SATAN SATAN SATAN (light 3) /5
Dead Kennedys
2/5
It's an alright punk album. Not the biggest fan of the vocals and the lyrics are pretty corny but I guess that may just be it aging poorly. The instrumentals are pretty good but they tend to blend together from song to song.
2.5/5
Sonic Youth
4/5
Hard to believe this came out in '88. They were definitely ahead of their time. Vocals leave a bit to be desired but that may just be me not liking punk in general.
The more I listen the more I like it.
3.5/5 but I'll give it 4 stars because I feel with time I will like this album even more
Simon & Garfunkel
5/5
When I started this album I had to replay 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' several times before I actually started the album. Such a beautiful opening.
Peter Tosh
3/5
Don’t think I’ve gotten a reggae album yet. Enjoyed it, only gripe is there’s not much variety.
My rating shouldn’t matter because I didn’t listen to it the way it was intended to be (spaced the hell out)
Solid 3/5
Radiohead
4/5
Love Radiohead, and this album is great, but this I don't think this is their best work. The album feels super melancholic (as expected) but was not feeling any individual song that much aside from 'You And Whose Army'.
This comment makes me feel like I'm bashing it, but this album is still great, just not their best work in my opinion.
Solid 4 maybe 5/5
Miles Davis
3/5
Good listen. Liked second track a lot more. Don't know what else to say.
Happy Mondays
3/5

Erykah Badu
3/5
Not bad. A little boring though.
The Jam
3/5

David Bowie
4/5
First half had some solid rock songs. Second half sounded like Paul Atreides was about to start a holy war.
Einstürzende Neubauten
1/5
Genuinely insane album. Deeply unserious.
M.I.A.
4/5
Most unique album generated so far. Was not really in the mood for it, but it had me pumped by the end regardless.
Fats Domino
3/5
Hard to appreciate the influence an album this old had. It doesn't sound that special but I'm sure it was at the time.
Funkadelic
4/5
Solid album. Maggot brain is definitely the best track, but I enjoyed the rest (with maybe the last track being a bit odd).
Solid 4, pushing 4.5-5.
James Brown
4/5
Sounded like a sick performance. 4 stars ‘cause I think those chicks watching live would kill me if I rated any lower.
The Cars
4/5
Solid rock album. Couple sick tunes for sure.

B.B. King
3/5
The Verve
5/5
Great album. Maybe a bit too long but several great tracks and even the less popular ones are good.
M.I.A.
2/5
I gave the other M.I.A album a 4 (which was very generous looking back on it), just because I appreciated the uniqueness. I do not believe there should be 2 of these on this list. I’ve only listened to 2 albums once and I’m bored to death.
Elvis Presley
4/5
Hard to imagine how much impact this album had. Not the greatest listening experience by today’s standard, but enjoyable nevertheless. Blue moon is definitely my favourite from this album.

Marvin Gaye
5/5
No misses. All great songs and great performances. Kind of comical listening to this on a plane by myself but was totally into it regardless.
The Darkness
3/5
Solid over the top rock album. Vocals get a little annoying at times but there are some great guitar parts. Favourite song for sure is “Love is only a feeling”.
Keith Jarrett
3/5
Leonard Cohen
4/5
Really unique listen. Thought it was strange at first but it’s actually pretty cool to listen to someone on death’s door throw out some slam poetry. Probably will come back to this.
N.E.R.D
4/5
Honestly wasn’t familiar with any of Pharell’s work besides the super mainstream stuff. Great album that’s full of a wide variety of fun songs. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Fela Kuti
3/5
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
Pretty cool concept. I especially like the duets. Pretty indifferent when it comes to most of the songs. Some songs go on a big too long
Arcade Fire
5/5
Maybe nostalgia or nationalism but in my opinion it does not get much better than this album.

Aretha Franklin

This is a good album. Obvious highlights are respect and the title track. Her voice is great must most of the other songs aren't anything crazy in my opinion.
I just can't get over the fact that the rolling stone said respect is the greatest song of all time. It's good but is it that good? Really? I guess I'm not quite understanding the context in which it was released.

It's always hard to rate albums that are this old... It's really solid but doesn't stand out to me. But that's probably just because so many people have been inspired by/copied these works. It's a strong 3 or light 4 and I'm feeling nice today.
