1001 Albums Summary

My sweet lord is a classic, instrumental tracks at the end were all nice. A few of the songs in the middle sort of blurred into one on only one listen through 3.5

Lots of Beatles/beach boy vibes Time of the season sounds like stand by me 3.5

Barely close second behind OK Computer Everything in its right place and idoteque are both 10s 4.5

Some classic songs you forget are all on the same album Very chill calm pop rock 4

Sultans of swing is crazy good Whole albums flows nicely 4

Not sure how quick I will be to listen to this again, not that it’s boring I’m just not sure I get Bob Dylan. Didn’t realise “Make you feel my love” was originally a Dylan song and I did enjoy that, and “Standing in the doorway”. 3

Nothing offensive about this but nothing all that special either. Nothing that makes me want to come back to this with any urgency. 2.5

I mean yeah it’s a 5, so many classics Probably quicker to list the songs that aren’t a 10/10 (sun king, mean mr mustard, polythene Pam, her majesty) but that’s being pretty picky 5

feel like this probably inspired Sam Fender (keep the car running could totally be a Fender song if it was sung with a Geordie accent) and Wet Leg (less the singing/lyrics, but i felt like the guitar on a couple of the tracks (The Well and the Lighthouse) reminded me of moisturizer). all well made but i kinda feel like this is nothing really that special, none of the songs are drawing me in a lot and making me want to come back to this album, but i wouldnt complain if someone put it on. 3

Kinda feel like brimful of Asha is the only particularly interesting song here, and the fatboy slim version is better 2

couple of corny lyrics but overall a really solid fun album make the bus just completely throws me though, did not enjoy that song highlights: dance or die, sir greendown, wondaland 4

instant 5, already heard this with the AM top 100 and have been back to it a few times since highlights: golden lady, dont you worry bout a thing 5

Really fucking weird, not necessarily in a bad way. First half is a normal album and then the second half is a musical narrated by a guy who is currently having a stroke. Really difficult to decide what I think about this album, not sure I’ll be back but it really was an experience. 3.5

Nothing bad but nothing too notable either, not sure I could name a single song with it now off. Definitely good music to just have on in the background and I may come back to it for that reason Despite this I can understand why this album is on here and how influential this album was, but I’m rating these for my current feelings and enjoyment of it rather than impact it had and how “good” the album is 3

Perhaps i judged you too harshly When i listened to this album for the AM top 100 list i ranked it at 73 on my personal list, which wasnt a great review. but i did kind of speed run it. its only 30 something minutes long so i blasted through my 3 required listens in under 2 hours driving home from a trip away in the van on a relatively low volume as to not wake jess who was asleep in the passenger seat. in doing so i missed a lot of the things that make the album great. obviously i know three little birds and one love are great and classic songs. but writings in vain and the heathen also have little bits to them you only notice when you concentrate and in my case use headphones. i particularly enjoyed the use of autotune on the title track. whilst the frequent religious lyrics dont do anything for me i can still appreciate the lyricism on this album whilst not a perfect match for my tastes i definitely enjoyed this album upon revisiting it more than a 73 so maybe i need to reconsider some of my AM rankings at some point 4

i feel like i appreciate this album more and more every time i listen to it. ive enjoyed it every single time i listened from the get go but each time i listen to it again i find another song that im like yeah this is also a 10. listening to the remastered OKNOTOK also gives you additional B side tracks, i partiulcarly enjoyed I Promise, Man of War, polyethene and How I made my Millions 5

Holy snoozefest. Incredibly forgettable Frozens not bad, driving me crazy trying to think which song samples it, more or less the only thing compelling me to come back to this 1.5

yeah i mean its fine, its good music but its just jazz... as far as jazz goes it is pretty accessible, its not like 90 mins of random crap take five sounds great, but thats probably mostly because ive heard it a bunch before wouldnt be against putting this on just in the background or something if i had some particularly sophisticated people over but idk if im going to listen to it again myself 2.5

quite a depressing album really, Behind the Wall is kinda chilling. i have heard this album before and it is really good but i think outside of Fast Car theres a specific mood you need to be in to listen to this and thoroughly enjoy it. 3.5

Really good, not had the time to give this the attention it deserves today so will definitely have to come back to this Hearing human come on and being the Kanye sample had me sitting up like Leo Highlights: lovely head, human, utopia 4 (but maybe higher on 2 more listens)

doesnt have the same pop feel that the music is "for everyone", feels like this is trying to make a deeper connection with a smaller subset of people that im not sure im one of. its all good music and i wouldnt complain going back to it but the most of the lyrics just dont really resonate with me. a little bit too much screaming on some songs maybe 2.5

Basically just Daft Punk if they were French. And Good. The whole thing flows really nicely with transitions between songs happening seamlessly. I normally struggle to get into electronic music but I've thoroughly enjoyed this from the first listen. 4.5

really beautiful renditions of some classic songs, i think his version of hurt is better than NiNs and im pretty on the fence of his vs the beatles of in my life second half of the album does fall off a little bit though 4

was really looking forward to hearing this and it was absolutely nothing like what i was expecting. i loved it and each of the songs were growing on me more after each listen (aside from maybe sue) feel like this is what BCNR were trying to recreate with Ants from up there 4.5

Yeah it was fine, I was expecting less tbh from the short track lengths. I thought nothing was going to be “fleshed out” enough but all of the songs get right into it and don’t waste a single beat Some entertaining stuff but not a lot that was particularly memorable 3

Didn’t really enjoy this and not really sure why it’s in here tbh, the vocals were kinda annoying. Kudos at least for making a song called I’m cramped given the context I guess though 1.5

Really enjoyed this from the get go. I added this to my to listen to list even though I knew this was in here but I wanted to listen to it early so kinda funny it came up a few days later. Really lived up to the hype, will be back to this very soon 5

all of the tracks on here go crazy hard. obviously the well known hits slap but even the other tracks id not heard before are also great. few too many skits and interludes for my liking but think this was just a thing of the time this came out so i kinda feel like its maybe unfair to knock it down from a 5 just cause of this? outkast are really consistent its pretty nuts, kinda shocked aquemini isnt on this list tbh 5

one of the albums of all time for sure nothing offensive but very forgettable, really not sure why its on this list. sounds like a bunch of bad oasis songs but also if oasis were from liverpool #751 from 1999 on RYM is kinda hilarious, its struggling to make the 1001 albums from 1999 but its somehow on the 1001 albums list?? 2

some nice tunes with some great riffs, im just not sure there enough to bring me back to this. i do kinda think that if this was in english it would be a lot more popular but as an ignorant english speaker this is less accessible to me 2.5

Some proper bangers on here, I forget how many good songs are on this album. Without checking I would’ve said “American idiot” and “wake me up when September ends” but holiday, boulevard of broken dreams and Jesus of suburbia (I forget every time how long this song actually is lol) also all slap Second half definitely does fall off a bit though, after give me novocaine, September is like the only non forgettable song imo 4

Some good ideas in here that have all been executed in the most annoying way possible. When I’m sleepy… however was not one of those, that was an awful idea that was executed in the most annoying way possible. 2

really good, prefer this to neon bible from the first listen. i feel like im not normally one to notice when the "mixing is off" but i think the mixing on this isnt great? the vocals feel way to quiet on some songs? Probably not going to happen due to the controversies around the band but a remaster of this would be pretty epic Enjoyed how this flows as an album as well, it wasn’t every track but the transitions between a lot of tracks worked very well 4

does feel like im listening to a musical sound track for a musical ive not heard before Do think that this could grow on me though, may have to come back it if this came to a theatre near me as a musical i would strongly consider going to see it... Highlights: title track, in the cage, carpet crawlers, it Lowlights: the waiting room 3

Had higher expectations going in. Some good songs — Light My Fire is a banger — but the lyrics are a bit bad overall and it drags on longer than necessary. The End is WAY too long. 3/5

Had pretty high expectations for this going in as it was quite high on my backlog and I had heard a few people hyping it up. Didn’t disappoint at all, a lot of the songs sound really similar but not in a bad way more that it just flows really well together 5

Highway to Hell is an absolute banger but the rest of the album feels a little too samey, like it's just 10 highway to hells with different lyrics. 3/5

Definitely sounds better with headphones on, listened in the car also and it just didnt hit the same. Not sure exactly what i was expecting with this, idk if this was it. Did really enjoy it, i think this could grow on me still also (4/5)

Most of the songs are really great if you actually listen listen to them, but having them on in the background, a lot of the non bangers just sort of blur into the background. A lot of them feel like they have been playing for ages but when checking they are only like 4 minutes long. RYM reviews complain about Jamaica Jerk Off and Your Sister Can not Twist but did not think they were that bad. (3.5/5)

Good and entertaining but did not do a whole lot for me. Had heard Ace of Spades before and it still slaps.

Little too artsy I think, I think for the time I can see why it was popular but I think it’s trying too hard? Some of the songs just don’t need to be that long. But I did really enjoy most of the songs until I felt like they started dragging so this could maybe grow on me as well. Do feel like I need to deduct and entire point for Moonchild unfortunately 3.5

Classic for a reason, the raps and flows on this are insanely good Some of the hooks let it down a little, like The World Is Yours becomes a little grating (4/5)

Lyrics are fun, cheeky, and very sexual. Makes the listener feel like they're "fucking someone else's wife" (thematic vibes). Surprised, expected just another Britpop album but really enjoyed it. Easy listens throughout, even the unfamiliar tracks. (3.5/5)
