Not for me but respect
The actual rap is pretty bad tbh. Lyrics are super basic and a bit corny. Maybe these were hard hitting truths back in the day? Liked: 30 Days
Nope. Not for me. This is not singing and that is playing same pounding notes.
+: Jam-Master Jay, Sucker M.C.'s (Krush-Groove 1), 30 Days, Jay's Game +-: Hollis Crew (Krush-Groove 2), It's Like That, Wake Up -: Hard Times, Rock Box 3,2/10
I wouldn't know good hip hop from bad, but either way I don't like it.
This is the hundred ninety fourth album I’m rating. I listened to Raising Hell and they’re kinda overrated. Adding to my Playlist - Nothing. Not Adding to my Playlist - Hard Times, Rock Box, Jam-Master Jay, Hollis Crew (Krush-Groove 2), Sucker M.C.’s (Krush-Groove 1), It’s Like That, 30 Days, and Jay’s Game. All in all I liked 0/9 songs. This sucks. The 80’s were truly the worst decade for anything remotely artistic.
Torture is better that this 1/10
wack
I honestly have no idea how I had the stamina to listen to this album more than once back in the day. I mean, that was like 30 years ago, so maybe I was just more into it then. Listening to it now was kind of a struggle — I barely made it through once. Hip hop has come a long way since those early days, and honestly, I think it’s changed for the better. But hey, someone had to be the first to do it, and you’ve got to respect that.
Not my jam
1. hard - 1 2. rock - 1 3. jam - 1.5 4. creuu - 1 5. zucker - 1 6. that - 1 7. uuake - 1 8. dayz - 1.5 9. game - 1.5
- just the worst shit. i'm so glad rap isnt still like this
I remember when this came out in 1984, and 40 years later I still don’t care for it. I kind of thought their song “It’s Tricky” was catchy but that’s not on this album. Besides, I can never forgive Run-D.M.C. for reviving Aerosmith’s career with that “Walk This Way” debacle – it’s their fault we got “Janie’s Got a Gun” and I will never get over it.
This is awful. Everything sounds the same.
Not my thing. I managed 3 tracks. They all sounded the same. I gave up.
Maybe the most difficult listen of this list so far. The beats are so boring and rudimentary, and the rhymes are uninteresting and have aged so poorly. Hip Hop in its infancy and going through some really rough growing pains. Rock Box is the only redeemable thing on here. Certainly a product of its time. Some additional watching inspired by this listen: Northernlion's Kurtis Blow arc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7ZkWspxvOY&ab_channel=itsmeBR1AN Rza makes a terrible beat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59NVvnkJ0Sw&ab_channel=NicholasWilson
Much like the last Run-DMC album, this leaves me really cold.
Boring!!! Listening to people brag about themselves for almost 40 minutes just gets really annoying ever awhile.
The album is a little less terrible than many rap albums (thanks to the rock inserts in a couple of songs, in particular, in "Rockbox"). But the vast majority of the record is more annoying than at least perceived neutrally. 2 out of 10.
Rap is not music. I reiterate. 1/5
Not my cup of tea
Ich habe es probiert, aber für meinen Geschmack waren es zu viel Oberheim und zu viele sprachliche Informationen. Für diejenigen, die es mögen, sicherlich ein gelungenes Werk und für die damalige Zeit revolutionär.
this felt like some of the most stilted, uninspired rap I've ever heard - using a very basic drum machine 2-step beat for every song with not much to spice it up, every line is sung with the same intonation and inflexion towards the end, which is also the only place where the rhyme happens. The lyrics are also quite boring, there's not much clever rhyming, wordplay or clever writing, and all of this results in every song blending together into one goopy slop that gets stale after the first 15 minutes. I wondered if I was too critical and whether this album was just a sign of growing pains of something that would become the "golden age" of hiphop, but then I checked the year and saw that it comes from the same period of time as NWA, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys and Ice T. So I really don't get the hype. All in all it feels like Run-D.M.C made a song that was alright, and then decided to iterate on it slightly to make an entire album. Extremely boring.
Hip hop is still a mystery to me, and this doesn't help at all. Tacky midi orchestral hits over a drum machine and synchronised shouting.
Shite, juvenile rapping. We're come a long way since the 80's
This is why I don’t really like hip hop as a genre. Rubbish!
I try my best with rap/hip hop, but after 3 rap albums on the run I can safely say it does nothing for me.
Copy and paste my review of every late 80s and early 90s rap album. There’s nothing that I need to listen to from this time period.
Didn't like. Boring beats
This is Run DMC? These guys suck. The rhymes, the flow, the beats, none of it stood the test of time.
Not a rap fan
First listen Saved 1/9 Top track: Rock Box
I hate this style where they end the sentence on a strong emphasis. “Blah blah blah blahblahBLAHBALH BALHHHHHH”
I get how this album makes this list because of its first of its kind nature and influence on rap. But as a stand alone work it doesn’t really hold up today. It sounds kinda silly and simple.
Boring and repetitive. Not for me.
Shite
Ne
Sucks
ich hasse run dmc und dieses album hat meine meinung nicht geändert kein flow fucking vanilla ice hatte mehr flow auf dem EINEN lied was erfolgreich war was zum teufel
Not my style at all.
Not my type of rap :/
Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
Awful. Probably inspired a lot of stuff I’ve subsequently like but I didn’t think much at all of the blue print.
Yeah I did not like that. Very samey structure and beats. You could listen to the first couple of tracks and get the point. Hard to believe this was once called 'hardcore rap'. Would have cut it more slack except Grandmaster Flash was around earlier than this and actually still sounds really good
Its aged really badly. Its a rough listen
Don't care.
Genuinely couldn’t wait for it to be over
That's 2 Run DMC albums in three days to review, and they're both crap, with this one being crappier.
Really dated badly. Very simple song structure, beats, rapping and the occasional scratching. But ultimately tedious.
Nope. Still not a fan of run DMC and old school hip hop in general. These raps sound like something you would hear in a d.a.r.e. program to try to be relatable to kids
While I respect the influence this album seems to have had on hip hop in general, I still just don't like the style and didn't finish a single one of the tracks before skipping to the next. I found the sparse, DnB-like music rather annoying and the back-and-forth nature of the rapping very annoying. I did like the background guitar on Rock Box, but that's about it.
It's just a bit bland. I like hip-hop which has some jazzy elements, or interesting rhythms or beats. Even their vocal style seems a bit dull
Скучно пиздец, прям одна и та же песня итс лайк зет
Lame vocal/lyrics. Might sound interesting if it's just the guitar in the background.
I had to listen to this album twice because I couldn't decide if it was a 1 or 2. I didn't initially hate it, which is why I wanted to give it a 2, but it fell off towards the end, and the second time through was so so painful. Wake Up and onwards were straight cheeks, but Rock Box surprised me, I wasn't expecting rock and old-school hip hop to work like that. Regardless, I'd feel less remorse underrating than overrating, so I'm sorry RUN DMC, but I'm a self-interested b*tch.
It’s giving high school dropouts turned SoundCloud rappers who only use GarageBand because they think they don’t have to splurge on real recording equipment. I wanted to skip every song by the 30 second mark. On par with Ian Dury.
flaming hot dumpster fire of garbonzo beans trash
Might have been genre defining, but I couldn't get through this.
Shite - get outta my ears!
Terrible to listen to, chaotic and over-intense
boring
I don't like this music, sorry.
It was ok
It's not very good but you can tell they tried really hard I preferred the instrumental versions of most of these songs They could've slipped the Super Bowl Shuffle in there and I wouldn't have noticed "We got all the lines and all the rhymes / We don't drop dimes and we don't do crimes" Guys must've been allergic to 3 syllable words I'm glad that Darryl McDaniels clarifies the origins of his stage name DMC: "The D's for doin it all of the time / The M's for the rhymes that are all mine / The C's for cool, cool as can be" Doin. Rhymes. Cool
I'm all for respecting legends, but this was boring as FUCKKKKKKKK. Who the hell is listening to this in 2022? 30 days was a cool beat but still got old. Literally the same basic beat on every fucking song christ. They have nice voices but this aint it. Its not tricky 1/10
Och nö
Never heard this one before.. I'm sure it was inspirational, but wasn't like tribe called quest and NWA out around this time? This is rap with instruments. Real, bad. Two syl - able rap (rap). This is the album you show your racist Uncle when he's not into rap and you are? I'm sure this was inspirational, but man. 2022 - does not hold up
they're just shouting at me with bad beats - I NEED MUSIC NOT LYRICS
Terrible vocals, terrible beat.
Could not get through this. Not for me
Iets teveel van dit
Just terrible, not my thing. I like rap but there isnt even interesting samples
These guys have a couple of songs that are....okay. Other than that, however...
2/10
It sucks
