Reviews (page 7 of 7)

2 stars. Don't really like this. The It's tricky son on one of their other albums is a decent song but I couldn't get into this.

This might be the most 80s sounding album of all time. Not necessarily bad, just not a style that I like at all. The back and forth with the singers, especially on Wake Up, made me think of the sketches they would do on Whose Line is it Anyways where each person could only say 1 word a time to make a song.

Don't think this one lives up to the first album we had at all. I'm sure when it first came out it was pretty revolutionary in this genre, but just seems to me like this one walked so Raising Hell could run.

the beastie boys if they weren't white

Well it’s rap and previous reviews show my loathing of this genre. But wait - no misogynistic lyrics, no drugs, no knives, no ‘N’ words, no penis infatuation (well as far as I could tell) Is this a rap record I could actually enjoy and like? Not really - in fact not at all. But I suspect the hardcore rappers have no time for this record as well. Not wanting to be on the same side of the fence as those ahem - ‘motherfuckers’ I’ll give it 2 stars because there are one or two nice melodies. 2/5 19/1/25

Säkert et märkvärdigt album i sin dag. I dagens läge låter det väldigt föråldrat. Som med anda 80-tals rap album på denhär listan föredrar jag "beatsen" över vokalerna.

Not very inspiring Hip-Hop.

Time has shown its mark on this one. This is not my cup of tea. The rythm is easy to follow and that catches your attention but it is hard for me to continue paying attention to the lyrics even though this is one of the supposed novelties. When it comes to the backround music, I am not amused. The simplicity and at the same time the feeling that whoever made this is lost and clearly does not know what he has created. I do not judge, you have to take a few steps into the dark to reveal what is behind it but it seems like we are taking every random step to eventually reveal something of value here. I have to say, I am not a big hip hop fan, nor have I ever been, meaning that I do not actually understand how influencial this actually was. One thing I can spot though is that they are not afraid to turn up the bass. I can tell that there is a hint of rock mixed with a lot of beat type sounds. FINAL VERDICT: I am not amused…

As far as I know DMC as famous for the Rap/Rock crossover but I can't see any of this here. This was before then and is a repetitive procession of generic tracks.

Fav song: It’s Like That Another super important album in the world of East coast hip hop. Some great singles on this one but man, the production on the majority of this album is terrible - the drum samples are dreadful and a lot of the songs consist of just rapping and drums.

not bad but a bit repetitive?

I get why this album is a big deal, but man it is hideously dated. There’s just not a lot here that I find engaging. Best song: 30 Days

Hip hop, it started out in the park

Cool beats, not a fan of the songs though. Will check out more.

Yeah, not sure I get them. All of the songs sound very similar and repetitive. Not for me.

I remember some of these songs being more uptempo. Too much of the same beat in all the songs made the album seem like one long song.

Old skoolest of the old Skool. Mind numbingly primitive - both the tapping and the “music”. Clearly they had a discount on those handclaps 2.4

Dated. Lacks any variation in the songs so became tedious.

important? influential? yes on both counts, is it any good? not really.

Rating: 2.4

It started with a pretty decent song. And many pretty identical songs followed.

An interesting benchmark for seeing how this genre has evolved over the past 40 years. So it's obviously influential and seminal and stuff. And capital-D dated.

I'm not a fan of rap at all, but I understand why this makes the list. But it's kinda laughable today.

Rap just ain’t for me

I know why this album is on the list, but frankly, I can’t even imagine a time when this was considered impressive lyricism. The lyrics sound like playground rhymes we used to sing in elementary school. “Boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider” type rhymes. Sorry Dad…

Not really my thing sorry run DMC

I seem to get hip hop albums in waves. This one isn't as bad as some of the others. Coming from the super early days of the genre, it's not so much glorification of drugs, misogyny, guns, sexual assault, violence, hating women, using women, that the genre has turned into. It is pretty monotonous still but in sort of a different way than hip hop is now. The lyrics are still dumb but not as bad as more recent hip hop I guess. It's actually kind of funny to see how tame this genre was in its infancy compared to what it's grown into. All in all, I'd give this album like a 1.5, I'll round up because it's mercifully short at about 40 minutes.

# 319 : I don't love it, I don't hate it, I can listen to it, a couple of things stood out. I think Its OK, I could listen to it. Very catchy couple of tunes… but I still hate Rap! Fave Track : It's Like That.

Sooo dated, it’s almost funny now. No, definitely funny.

This album is sort of like the Bible or Shakespeare -- as I listened to it I heard lines that I've heard referenced many times but never knew they had an origin. The prime example of this is "all you sucker MCs". I appreciate the historical impact and importance of this album, but ultimately didn't feel grabbed by any specific song. I love how much it has influenced hip hop, but don't think I'll listen to this one again.

whack as hell wtf

Run DMC was very influential yes. But this is 30mins of VERY repetitive dated beats.

Why 'practice rap' is on the list, no one knows

for someone who is not a fan of hip hop and wasn't even born when this album came out, understanding its cultural significance is hard, if not impossible. hip hop has come far in the last few decades and from the modern perspective, this album is kind of... simple. that being said, I did find it tolerable, which is more than I can say about the likes of Jay-Z and 50 Cent. also, Rock Box is kind of a bop

Not my taste

I'm sure that it is historically important, and I do appreciate some of their other music. This album felt super lame, though. It was really slow, and the lyrics were pretty bland.

Старый динамичный хип-хоп, танцевальный. Совсем не моё.

hip hop isn't exactly my forte but certainly this isn't a must hip hip album ....

I know this album is of historical importance, but I was underwhelmed...a bit dull and repetitive.

This was entirely uninteresting to me. I zoned out till it finished. Rock box was the only song that saves this from 1 stars. Stand-out: Rock Box

It's not good. It's so dated, and there's not really anything to it at all. Every song is so samey, with incredibly basic beats and rhymes over the top. I found the whole thing really boring. 1.5 rounded up.

good but not great, didn't seem to flow as well as imagined

A couple of big tracks on here. It was better than I thought it would be, only let down by that ancient drum machine, which I suppose was a mid range model back then. Those electro hand-clap sounds running through most of the songs got very wearing and dated the album to the mid-80's.

An album so influential that it kind of sounds cliche and boring, even though it was the originator

I understand the importance of this album and the influence it has had on people. That being said, I found it boring and repetitive. Listen to if you are a hip hop fan! But for someone like me, all the songs seemed to sound exactly the same somehow. I appreciate the messages behind some of the songs, but the same style of vocal delivery gets old after a while. 2/5

It strikes me that to this day every time white people try to do an ill-advised rap song about like how to check out books from a library or why Jesus is cool to try and relate to kids they are still entirely influenced by Run. I can’t wait for the day that a municipal water conservation effort tries to bring awareness to itself via rap but instead it’s like dirty south hip hop as an influence instead

kinda all sounded the same.

see on demo mitte plaat

Aged like milk

Not my jam, but the influence of Run-D.M.C. can not be denied.

Just not very good

was expecting more, but it was ok.

oof, idk if the problem's that this was an earlier album, or if the turnaround on being served another Run-D.M.C. album was just too short, making the novelty wear off, but I thought "Raising Hell" was delightful and that this one was really boring

Didn't listen, couldn't do it to myself - it was shite in the 80s, won't be any better now

so like...fine I get they defined an era of music...and I get they are huuugely influential, but I just cannot get on with the style and formular of rap. I don't want to call is basic, but it feels very dated now. I wanted to enjoy this but I just couldn't

Mais um de rap, e Run-D.M.C já teve com o qual me interessava.

I dig the rock influence in Rock Box. Makes me think of Beastie Boys. 2* for me; it's clear this album/group influenced much of hip hop going forward, but as an album I'm not sure I entirely dig it.

Pretty tame stuff, dated as well.

What I love about this project: There are a lot of artists with the "big hits" like Its Like That. And I never listened to the rest of the record. It's nice to get some context to these hit songs.

Woof. I was not expecting this to sound so dated. To their credit, this sounds like an album from 1992, so I guess they were ahead of their time (hence influential, hence why this album is on the list), but to me this one does not stand the test of time.

Simple and fun!

I know this was groundbreaking in its day but I truly could not believe how corny and goofy this album sounds. If I heard this and nobody told me it was Run-D.M.C. I would assume it was a spoof of 90s rap.

Hip-hop rollazo. Un 2.

Hip hop.. I don´t likør hip hop

Okay much better stuff out there it's alright though

This is definitely a piece of history and I can hear the influence that this album had on modern music. It’s still not a genre I enjoy, though.

The second Run-D.M.C album from the generator and I really enjoyed "Raising Hell" a lot more than this . Still a pleasant listen but nothing more. There is something just fun with Run D.M.C and it carries through in this album too. Favourite song is "It's like that' which is just a step above the rest. But if you feel like listening to Run-D.M.C, go listen to Raising Hell for instead.

It started out good, but then for very repetitive. There were a few songs where the backing track was essentially the same, the lyrics were similar, and the flow/rhyming were the same.

I just don’t like this kind of music

Hip-hop rollazo. Un 2.

I can appreciate the influence, but at face value the production is not great 🤷‍♀️

I can see how this would change a lot but I feel like the lyrics are just so forced and they don't "flow". Everything is kinda jumpy and it feel slike it skips. Some of the background music is super limited and raw, but it also lends itself to not feeling full. Overall, I was a little disappointed even if some songs were great. 2/5 Favorites: Hard Time, It's Like That, Least Favorites: Sucker MCs, Jam Master Jay, Hollis Crew,

Couple of decent tracks but the majority of this I wouldn't listen to again.

They've become impossibly overrated, which seems in insane.

outdated 2,5

Like hitting your head against a brick wall, it was a relief when it stopped.

maybe i just don't 'get' 80s rap, maybe this isn't their best work, but it's just a miss for me. too used to higher production quality modern rap, i guess

Dog shit album and very cringe that they rap a line together by alternating words. Gotta give them back half a star though for the innovative (at the time) beats

Maybe this helped mold modern rap or whatever. but it doesn’t do it for me

Poprzednie albumy rapowe zazwyczaj coś ciekawego wnosiły lirycznie, muzycznie, czy kompozycjynie, a ten nawet nic specjalnego sobą nie przedstawił i nie miałem go ochoty słuchać jeszcze raz.

Rock Box is a really cool hip-hop rock mashup. In general im not a huge fan of this big boom kick sound. Yea this album becomes a slog after Rock Box and its kind of grating on me.

I'm sure this was epic when it was released, but it just sounds very dated at this point.

I like Run-DMC but honestly this album was boring. It was their usual flow but without the fun, catchy production that makes them enjoyable to listen to. This isn't a bad thing but the lyrics also felt more edgy and political than their more popular albums.

I guess this was innovative at the time, but feels very basic and lo-fi. Interesting hearing the original song that Jason Nevin remixed.

Review tbc

Meh. I guess it was influential...but kind of boring. 1.5/5

To "Old School" for my taste. Beats are neat but very basic and the lyrics dont do much for me

Truth be told, I didn't listen to the whole thing, but I think I heard what I needed to. There's definitely something endearing about the enthusiasm and what seems like a leap of faith to produce, but I'm pulling my Scott card and saying the '80s production was something I couldn't get past. I know this was rap coming into its own, I can appreciate the limitations inherent in producing this (theoretically — I have no real idea how this was recorded, sounds like someone's bedroom), but this was a style of rap I could never sink my teeth into when it came out, and the same is even more true today.

Not very good. Wouldnt listen again.

2. I haven't even listened and I know what this is getting. Damn this is actually pretty good. Moving towards 3 territory. Rock Box and 30 Days stuck out to me.

Super boring for the first hard-core rap album but rap isn't my thing anyway.

I can't remember if we had another Run album on this list but I wasn't a huge fan of this one. I do like some of their stuff, and I know we watched the show back in the day, but none of these tracks hooked me. I'll just listen to Channel Orange again.

I can recognize its importance, but I am never going to sit and listen to this by choice. “Rock Box” is awesome though.

On s'est encore bien régalé avec ce groupe ice cube hip hop

I remember in my first year of uni there was a girl who lived a bit up from me in the dorm, her name was Ruby and she wore a Run-DMC shirt all the time. Naturally, she'd never actually heard them beyond like 2 radio hits, but that was ok because she was fucking hot. I tried to stalk her on Facebook while I listened to this album, but I can't remember her surname and she's probably married with kids now. Anyway, this album was the bumper bowling version of rap. Sure it was early, but it's dated as hell now. 2/5.

Bit samey

Pretty bland. I prefer the its like that remix… spices it up a bit…

Yeah didn’t need a whole album of this

Drum machine gives promises the vocals don't provide. More men chatting.

Crudo y primitivo pero así comienzan ciertas cosas.

Alright for that lyrical miracle era

Frumkvöðlar en þessi plata per se minnir mig bara á stráka í Don Cano göllum að breika.

When people ask about my favourite type of hip-hop (which admittedly isn’t often), I usually refer them to the old classics like Run-D.M.C. and Sugarhill Gang. I wouldn’t exactly say I’m overly familiar with either, but the simple beats and simple rhyme schemes have always sounded better to me. Songs I already knew: It’s Like That Favourites: It’s Like That, Rock Box I was quite looking forward to listening to this today. However, what I found was that although any one of the songs sounds good by itself, a whole album is very tiring. With the exception of Rock Box which did sound different, I probably wouldn’t have even known when one song ended and another started if there was a cross fade there. Each song had me thinking, “Hasn’t this song already been on?” Taking the album as a whole rather than single by single, I’m a little saddened to say that this wasn’t a particularly enjoyable album for me.

1/9, 11%

This is the best so far, but I can't go over 2 because then you might think it was good and it isn't. Ryan wanted me to acknowledge that this is an influential album. Noted.

Heel traag, super oud klinkend. 2*

2.5/5 Sometimes I can appreciate hiphop and/or rap, but most of the times it doesn’t do it for me. For this album it’s the same, although their style is unique and I can imagine they inspired a lot of artists. Not bad to listen to for one time, but I don’t need to try it a second time.

Didn’t really like this at all.

I was expecting more from this, quite dated and real lack of backing tracks, very basic. Still love 'It's tricky' though but mainly in remixed form.

Se deja escuchar de fondo, pero, si prestas atención, es horroroso. Me parece genial si fue innovador en su época, pero no quiero volver a escucharlo nunca.

Here for the significance in the growth of the genre rather than it being a brilliant listen today. Dated and one-note.

No sorry, it's better than modern rap, but that's not saying much.

😴😴😴 Rock Box is fire though.

Have to keep reminding myself that this album is from 1984 just to get through it. Thankfully it didn't take rappers too long to realize that they can say more than one word per beat.

Ekki viss hvort ég fíla þetta eða hata

Prima album, maar niks opvallends behalve de samples

Best Song: It's Like That. Really just a nice lyrical hook. Worst Song: Hollis Crew. It's like a worse version of "It's Like That". Overall: Some things just don't age well, although I'm not sure how excited I would have been to hear this back in the day. Everything is delivered with this plodding rhythm, to the point that it feels like the tracks have been artificially slowed.

The beats were fine, but this style always feels like they’re constantly shouting at me.

2.8 - I'm not that knowledgeable about hip hop and I certainly couldn't explain this record's influence on the genre. And this album played no part in my youth so it doesn't connect with me on a nostalgic level. I'm simply listening to this record in 2022 as a grown adult, for the very first time. What I hear are flat rhymes and stilted cadences. And above all, corny-ass lyrics.

Very dated

i’m not really sure how i feel about this. i think i just let it play and was there to listen and let it run out. it was unmemorable and a lot of it got super repetitive (like the beat) so it just got boring and annoying.

Очень плохо

Missing the energy of their later efforts - there's a latent sense of the fun lyricism and infectious beats that would later define the outfit, but the creativity here feels stifled and mute compared to what comes later in DMC's discography.

This is their debut album and it really shows. We recently got Raising Hell and that was vastly superior to this very simplistic and low budget sounding record. I must give them props for being major influencers and trailblazers in this genre though.

Dit was begin jaren 80 natuurlijk wel iets speciaals, helaas heeft de tand de tijds heeft hier keihard in gebeten, maar niks doorgeslikt.

Behalve 'It's Like That' is dit een behoorlijk suffe plaat zeg.

ou eu ouvi a mesma musica por muito tempo, ou elas parecem todas iguais não é ruim, mas é meio cansativo

it just feels so basic. about as complex as a wayne rooney teamtalk.

La prima impressione è quella della desolazione. Quando ti abitui al fatto che cantano ogni cosa nello stesso modo, non ci sono suoni, il ritmo delle canzoni è sempre lo stesso, non fa schifo.

Oy Vey, I got 2 hip hop albums in a row. What's next for me, Covid?

Old skool rap. Some fantastic beats, but man do the songs drag. Respect the legacy, but its perhaps a bit too unpolished for me to really get hooked on. 2/5 - RAPetitive.

Super 80s and the beats feel real repetitive and not all that interesting

Hip hop puro y duro. Coñazo.

катя скинь сиськи

Feels like 1 40 minute song created by bored teenagers with a cheap Casio.

Hip-hop AGAIN ??? This had nothing special, really. Boring as hell.

Better than ABBA/ABC because these guys actually get a star. But beyond that, another "I will never torture myself listening to this shite from this point forward" album. 1 "well deserved" star.

6/4/26. I know this was their first work and the genre was brand new at this time, but this one wasn’t it for me. Found it boring; they definitely grew quickly as artists after this one!

just garbage

Oh so this is what all those guys with the t shirts are into huh

Ugh. Pretty boring rap. For such as short album this felt interminable.

Look. I get that's it's historically important, but I was utterly blown away by how bad it was and how little I wanted to listen to it. Before today I honestly thought I liked run dmc, and now I'm questioning everything. I get that 80s hip hop has not aged well and is always a tough listen, but this was truly bad. Zero interest in ever hearing it again.

All one song

Never really liked them

⭐ Hade klarat mig utan att höra denna innan jag dör. Måhända att det lade grunden för Hiphop men det är hopplöst datera och har ingen form av komplexitet. Enda spåret som är ok är It's like that.

Can see how this might have been interesting back then. Today's listen is really boring and bad.

У мене пісні не викликали не хороших відчуттів, не поганих. Та і жоден трек не запам'ятався.

unlistenable soz

Honestly, this record and this era of hip hop is very hard to listen to. I know people are going to say “yeah, but they paved the way to where we are in music” - but to me, that’s like saying they are on the same level as a group like the Beatles. And that is just ridiculous to put the two artists on an equal pedestal. The phrasing hip hop had in this era is kind of laughable. I’m very happy this genre has drastically evolved. Even though it’s had a lot of highs and lows since… but this is just not fun to listen to. I’m not even a huge hip hop fan. I would honestly say I don’t really care for the genre outside of a few artists. I’m definitely not the demographic for this type of music but at least my review is honest. I was shocked that I liked a Kanye West record while doing this list. Hip hop isn’t completely hopeless for me. But this record is just boring, repetitive, and uninspiring. Each song sounds like the last.

p517. 1984. 1 star. I appreciate how influential it is, but at the end of the day it's rap, and I don't like rap. It's also badly dated.

This one actually put me to sleep, it's like it's entirely composed of keyboard presets. No energy.

I get that it’s foundational

Run D.M.C. may not be talked about as much as they should for their influence on Hip Hop in general, but these guys were truly pioneers far ahead of their time in helping craft one of the first blueprints of what Hip Hop would become today over 40 years later. Calling this album cheesy and a product of its' time is such a basic and yet completely correct complaint that I both shame anyone for saying but also nod in agreement. It sucks saying such an influential project is no longer a worthy piece of music to hear due to how poorly it has aged, but truly that is how it feels listening to Run D.M.C.'s self titled debut. I have a lot of respect for this album, but next to no patience with it in the year of 2026...

My younger brother used to be a big fan of Run-DMC. I found one or two tracks quite interesting too. I couldn't find any of that on today's album. It's just hip-hop. I still can't get into it. 1/5

I know that run dmc are like one of the main staples when it comes to artists that made rap and hip-hop mainstream but good lord this album is bad. I skipped through half of it because everything sounded the same. Kinda like when a kid plays with the toy piano. 2/10

Torture... glad it was short

more junk

While previously I was not well versed in the art of rap, this album list has made me quite a connoisseur, and therefore I can state with fair confidence that this particular one is rubbish. Simplistic, full of itself, no interesting musicality in the backing track to speak of, not catchy, memorable or with anything interesting to say.

I think this is just a bit too dated for me. The drum beats are very simple, and many sounded the same. At some points I was thinking I had listened to the song already. Rating this a 1 feels harsh, but I just don't think there was anything I really liked about it.

god what a boring album?

Really rather dull

Pas mon truc

Seems very repetitive, probably a ground breaking album when it came out but doesn't do it for me. It's like that is only song that carries its weight

Not for me but respect

The actual rap is pretty bad tbh. Lyrics are super basic and a bit corny. Maybe these were hard hitting truths back in the day? Liked: 30 Days

Nope. Not for me. This is not singing and that is playing same pounding notes.

+: Jam-Master Jay, Sucker M.C.'s (Krush-Groove 1), 30 Days, Jay's Game +-: Hollis Crew (Krush-Groove 2), It's Like That, Wake Up -: Hard Times, Rock Box 3,2/10

I wouldn't know good hip hop from bad, but either way I don't like it.

This is the hundred ninety fourth album I’m rating. I listened to Raising Hell and they’re kinda overrated. Adding to my Playlist - Nothing. Not Adding to my Playlist - Hard Times, Rock Box, Jam-Master Jay, Hollis Crew (Krush-Groove 2), Sucker M.C.’s (Krush-Groove 1), It’s Like That, 30 Days, and Jay’s Game. All in all I liked 0/9 songs. This sucks. The 80’s were truly the worst decade for anything remotely artistic.

Torture is better that this 1/10

I honestly have no idea how I had the stamina to listen to this album more than once back in the day. I mean, that was like 30 years ago, so maybe I was just more into it then. Listening to it now was kind of a struggle — I barely made it through once. Hip hop has come a long way since those early days, and honestly, I think it’s changed for the better. But hey, someone had to be the first to do it, and you’ve got to respect that.

Not my jam

1. hard - 1 2. rock - 1 3. jam - 1.5 4. creuu - 1 5. zucker - 1 6. that - 1 7. uuake - 1 8. dayz - 1.5 9. game - 1.5

- just the worst shit. i'm so glad rap isnt still like this

I remember when this came out in 1984, and 40 years later I still don’t care for it. I kind of thought their song “It’s Tricky” was catchy but that’s not on this album. Besides, I can never forgive Run-D.M.C. for reviving Aerosmith’s career with that “Walk This Way” debacle – it’s their fault we got “Janie’s Got a Gun” and I will never get over it.

This is awful. Everything sounds the same.

Not my thing. I managed 3 tracks. They all sounded the same. I gave up.

Maybe the most difficult listen of this list so far. The beats are so boring and rudimentary, and the rhymes are uninteresting and have aged so poorly. Hip Hop in its infancy and going through some really rough growing pains. Rock Box is the only redeemable thing on here. Certainly a product of its time. Some additional watching inspired by this listen: Northernlion's Kurtis Blow arc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7ZkWspxvOY&ab_channel=itsmeBR1AN Rza makes a terrible beat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59NVvnkJ0Sw&ab_channel=NicholasWilson

Much like the last Run-DMC album, this leaves me really cold.

Boring!!! Listening to people brag about themselves for almost 40 minutes just gets really annoying ever awhile.

The album is a little less terrible than many rap albums (thanks to the rock inserts in a couple of songs, in particular, in "Rockbox"). But the vast majority of the record is more annoying than at least perceived neutrally. 2 out of 10.

Rap is not music. I reiterate. 1/5

Not my cup of tea

Ich habe es probiert, aber für meinen Geschmack waren es zu viel Oberheim und zu viele sprachliche Informationen. Für diejenigen, die es mögen, sicherlich ein gelungenes Werk und für die damalige Zeit revolutionär.

this felt like some of the most stilted, uninspired rap I've ever heard - using a very basic drum machine 2-step beat for every song with not much to spice it up, every line is sung with the same intonation and inflexion towards the end, which is also the only place where the rhyme happens. The lyrics are also quite boring, there's not much clever rhyming, wordplay or clever writing, and all of this results in every song blending together into one goopy slop that gets stale after the first 15 minutes. I wondered if I was too critical and whether this album was just a sign of growing pains of something that would become the "golden age" of hiphop, but then I checked the year and saw that it comes from the same period of time as NWA, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys and Ice T. So I really don't get the hype. All in all it feels like Run-D.M.C made a song that was alright, and then decided to iterate on it slightly to make an entire album. Extremely boring.

Hip hop is still a mystery to me, and this doesn't help at all. Tacky midi orchestral hits over a drum machine and synchronised shouting.

Shite, juvenile rapping. We're come a long way since the 80's

This is why I don’t really like hip hop as a genre. Rubbish!

I try my best with rap/hip hop, but after 3 rap albums on the run I can safely say it does nothing for me.

Copy and paste my review of every late 80s and early 90s rap album. There’s nothing that I need to listen to from this time period.

Didn't like. Boring beats

This is Run DMC? These guys suck. The rhymes, the flow, the beats, none of it stood the test of time.

Not a rap fan

First listen Saved 1/9 Top track: Rock Box

I hate this style where they end the sentence on a strong emphasis. “Blah blah blah blahblahBLAHBALH BALHHHHHH”

I get how this album makes this list because of its first of its kind nature and influence on rap. But as a stand alone work it doesn’t really hold up today. It sounds kinda silly and simple.

Boring and repetitive. Not for me.

ich hasse run dmc und dieses album hat meine meinung nicht geändert kein flow fucking vanilla ice hatte mehr flow auf dem EINEN lied was erfolgreich war was zum teufel

Not my style at all.

Not my type of rap :/

Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

Awful. Probably inspired a lot of stuff I’ve subsequently like but I didn’t think much at all of the blue print.

Yeah I did not like that. Very samey structure and beats. You could listen to the first couple of tracks and get the point. Hard to believe this was once called 'hardcore rap'. Would have cut it more slack except Grandmaster Flash was around earlier than this and actually still sounds really good

Its aged really badly. Its a rough listen

Don't care.

Genuinely couldn’t wait for it to be over

That's 2 Run DMC albums in three days to review, and they're both crap, with this one being crappier.

Really dated badly. Very simple song structure, beats, rapping and the occasional scratching. But ultimately tedious.

Nope. Still not a fan of run DMC and old school hip hop in general. These raps sound like something you would hear in a d.a.r.e. program to try to be relatable to kids

While I respect the influence this album seems to have had on hip hop in general, I still just don't like the style and didn't finish a single one of the tracks before skipping to the next. I found the sparse, DnB-like music rather annoying and the back-and-forth nature of the rapping very annoying. I did like the background guitar on Rock Box, but that's about it.

It's just a bit bland. I like hip-hop which has some jazzy elements, or interesting rhythms or beats. Even their vocal style seems a bit dull

Скучно пиздец, прям одна и та же песня итс лайк зет

Lame vocal/lyrics. Might sound interesting if it's just the guitar in the background.

I had to listen to this album twice because I couldn't decide if it was a 1 or 2. I didn't initially hate it, which is why I wanted to give it a 2, but it fell off towards the end, and the second time through was so so painful. Wake Up and onwards were straight cheeks, but Rock Box surprised me, I wasn't expecting rock and old-school hip hop to work like that. Regardless, I'd feel less remorse underrating than overrating, so I'm sorry RUN DMC, but I'm a self-interested b*tch.

It’s giving high school dropouts turned SoundCloud rappers who only use GarageBand because they think they don’t have to splurge on real recording equipment. I wanted to skip every song by the 30 second mark. On par with Ian Dury.

flaming hot dumpster fire of garbonzo beans trash

Might have been genre defining, but I couldn't get through this.

Shite - get outta my ears!

Terrible to listen to, chaotic and over-intense

boring

I don't like this music, sorry.

It was ok

It's not very good but you can tell they tried really hard I preferred the instrumental versions of most of these songs They could've slipped the Super Bowl Shuffle in there and I wouldn't have noticed "We got all the lines and all the rhymes / We don't drop dimes and we don't do crimes" Guys must've been allergic to 3 syllable words I'm glad that Darryl McDaniels clarifies the origins of his stage name DMC: "The D's for doin it all of the time / The M's for the rhymes that are all mine / The C's for cool, cool as can be" Doin. Rhymes. Cool

I'm all for respecting legends, but this was boring as FUCKKKKKKKK. Who the hell is listening to this in 2022? 30 days was a cool beat but still got old. Literally the same basic beat on every fucking song christ. They have nice voices but this aint it. Its not tricky 1/10

Och nö

Never heard this one before.. I'm sure it was inspirational, but wasn't like tribe called quest and NWA out around this time? This is rap with instruments. Real, bad. Two syl - able rap (rap). This is the album you show your racist Uncle when he's not into rap and you are? I'm sure this was inspirational, but man. 2022 - does not hold up

they're just shouting at me with bad beats - I NEED MUSIC NOT LYRICS

Terrible vocals, terrible beat.

Could not get through this. Not for me

Iets teveel van dit

Just terrible, not my thing. I like rap but there isnt even interesting samples

These guys have a couple of songs that are....okay. Other than that, however...

It sucks
