I think I enjoyed this, but it kind of passed by while I was concentrating, so it's difficult to tell.
Peace, love and group sex! Expectations were low and I considered it’d be variations of Turn, Turn, etc. and Tamborine guy songs. This is the music my mom would’ve listened to in college. I was generally underwhelmed until Space Odyssey played and I began seeing trails, but then Moog Raga kicked in and I was tripping balls. Moving forward to the threesome sex song Triad, was unexpected but oddly enjoyable. Take another hit, there’s a great riff on Bound to Fail. Finally, Universal Mind Decoder was another trippy song to get lost in and the banter on the alternate version in the studio provided some interesting insight into the recording process. I was pleasantly surprised at how dynamic and full this album is. In the end, how much do we really know about our parents anyway? Maybe mom was a freak who liked dropping acid and frolicking naked in the mud at Woodstock with everyone else. (yuck).
I've listened to all the Byrds albums to Sweetheart of the Radio several times, but I honestly cannot see the acclaim they received from contemporary sources. However, I do understand the great significance. The Byrds' experimentation used rock as a medium rather than a genre, instead playing other genres but with a rock twist. And here we see the Byrds at their most expressive, employing folk, pop, country, psychedelia, and jazz. Now, folk rock was dominant in the first two albums, and psychedelic rock in the next two, but the country is definitely new, and points to where they head in their next albums. Note that nobody has ever done these rock fusion genres before, so congratulations to the Byrds. They're influential to music, but how do the albums themselves hold up? I like it. I like their sound and the genres they play. It makes for lovely easy listening. But the songs are mostly just ok. "Goin Back" and "Triad" are the best but still at best decent. This album is probably the best of their catalogue for an average person to listen to because there's so much variation (and the least amount of terrible songs), but I think they're experimenting too much in this album and don't really know what to do with the songs they're producing.

Wild and weird with beautiful harmonies. McGuinn is definitely a weird dude and can’t decide whether to make a psychedelic, folk, or country album, so instead the band deliver it all in one. Worth a headphone listen but not something I’d keep coming back to.
Some fun psychedelic rock, but nothing that captured my attention.
I was supposed to laugh out loud at the start of "Moon Raga," right? The horns at the start were unexpected, but after that this settled in quickly as a cohesive album that comfortable and snuggly and warm. “Draft Morning” devolves unexpectedly but interestly into noise and chaos briefly, clearly the mark of a band with a set style but also an yearning to experiment. (It was right before this album that their lead singer changed his first name, to Roger, as part of joining an Indonesian “spiritual movement.” The 60’s, man... What super-vanilla white dude name would you pick when you join some kind of zen cult?) I only really knew “Mr. Tambourine Man” and “Turn, Turn, Turn” really well, but I found their harmonies and arrangements to be classic. Perhaps classic rock even?? But they were pioneers of folk rock, and were experimenting here with psychedelic rock... of course, everything before 1997 with a guitar is classic rock, right? ;) Finally, the Byrds are not brothers, so this album title is another case of false advertising. (This only missed **** because “Moon Raga” totally took me out of it.)
Some interesting sonic experimentation going on here, but unfortunately, it all sounds so dated. No stand out tracks that, to my mind, stand the test of time. While this album may have (strongly?) influenced music to follow, I don't feel that I've missed out by not hearing it before.

Nope...sounds Beatles-ish.
Definitely Beatles-esque. Like the sound and the different instruments. Perhaps a bit ethereal for my taste as typically like more of an edge to my music. Good background music though. 2.6/5

Easy listening, understandable it was so popular for the time.
Proper naughty bit of 60s, this music genre is always so calming and feel good to me. Triad and Wasn't born to follow both stick out for me, Triad is chilled, Wasn't Born seems like nice garden music. Overall pretty good.
How are these albums to listen to before I die, constant mediocre albums,starting to lose interest
Enjoyed quite a lot of this, some country vibes done in the right way, so I liked a lot of it. Let down by the weird instrumentals etc at the end (not sure if they are part of the core track list or not??)

not into this first song at all. tracks 2-4 were okay, they sound so lifeless though. the tracks that lean more heavily into the country sound are not for me at all. 'triad' is the best song here, the only song where i can feel a little bit of emotion. 'i don't really see why we can't go on as three' oookay poly king.

Hmm. OK late 60's, distorted guitars, dreamy, etc., but not really my cup of tea. The "behind the scenes" recordings from the sessions are probably the best bit.

Good enough for a 3. Closer to 2 than 4 granted but the use of brass and none standard 60's rock and roll instruments gave it a lot more interest than I thought going in

3.9 - a pleasant blend of psychedelic and Country-western elements with hippie pop rock. Songs well crafted with pleasant harmonies, condensed to flow creating a cohesive listen with a few interesting experiments with guitar delay and some synth. The Byrds have some outsized real estate on this list (7 albums?) but so far what I’ve listened to has been interesting.

Very 60s-era sound. Early rock and roll. Beatles-esque. It's a fun listen though. Lots of interesting effects.
I should like this album but there just something musically that I couldn’t connect with. Perhaps it’s the country and western influence perhaps it’s the eyebrow raising triad. It’s experimental but of it’s era. The vocal lines are tight but there just a dreamy quality that comes off as dreary. I quite liked hearing them have an argument on the last track. Which again speaks to me not connecting with the band. I didn’t hate it all but there was nothing for me to jam to
This is a good folk-rock album. There is some mild experimental style music(which to me is more random synth noise than anything else) and is luckily kept to a couple of songs(more or less).and the others are some decent songs.

Tja…ich habe mich nicht darüber geärgert, aber wirklich notwendig war das jetzt nicht. Auch von den Byrds reicht das eine Album in der Liste (Younger Than Yesterday), das fand ich auch besser als dieses hier.

Really enjoyed The Byrds. Fun and upbeat, a little funky. Great album.
Another genre I could bear not listening to. This folksy hippy style, at least in this presentation, is anathema to good moods for me. Simon and Garfunkel, strangely, do not affect me similarly.
This is kinda dead - just reminds me of oldies radio stations. Same era as Beatles and it shows
Touches more on 60s psychedelic sounds than the typical folk rock style Laid back vibe for most songs, still playing into more psychedelic and chill sounds Relying more on vocal harmonies and reverb than riffs or up front grooves Bass and drums offer tasty fills that flesh out the music The more folk leaning songs still suits their sound more than the experimental ones Parts of it sound very inspire by what the Beatles were doing at the time but the songwriting is less sharp
