cowboy music for boring people, but this time with some rock elements
Standards late 60's groovin
A bit different to the Byrds I was expecting, not as folky and happy.
Its nice enough. Dull enough too
Kinda Mid, seemed like budget knock off beatles. I appreciated some of the choices in their instrumentation in Artificial Energy so it started strong but everything else was kind of forgettable. My ears found Moog Raga particularly offensive which is why this is a 2. Just something about it was ear grating for me. Also the overall sound quality seemed kinda ass Standout: Artificial Energy

The album was short and unremarkable. None of the songs really stood out. It wasn't bad just not good.
I don't know why I remembered that Notorious Byrd was a rap, unpleasant.
Gave this a second listen, just to confirm the 'meh'. Moog raga ... TF? Vigorously hated that! Liked the last track, 'Universal Mind Decoder (Alternate Backing Track)', the most. A good old fashioned 'talent' tanty. Lol. And then Wikipedia tells me about the 'staffing' problems they had; uhuh, yeah ... makes sense. Didn't really dislike it. Just not something I'd buy. 2.5
I couldn’t get into this one much. It was hard to distinguish the music and the vocals, it kind of merged into a jumbled noise.

No more Byrds please. I think this was at least the third ftom them. Wasn't there a solo project thing too? It was just kinda there. I felt numb to it. No more Byrds!

Moving away from the sound and style of the previous albums, that I really love. A lot of credit has been given to this album for its Experimentarium approach, but I general find it boring, with only a few songs with the quality of earlier material

I understand what's good about this. I think this album was a necessary step in the development of music, but I don't recommend going back to it anymore. It's a little too sweet for me. Production sounds very thin. The B-side is more interesting than the A-side. Favorite song: tribal gathering.

Wow, 60's boy band?! I wonder if they are doing a riff off the Beatles/Beachboys? ...They are. I really am not a fan of this style of singing/music in general. It isn't super interesting in the way the singing is delivered, and many times the instrumental is just pretty bare bones. I'm sure this has good themes and the lyrics talk about something important but it's hard to judge lyrics only by listening to a song once and I'm not subjecting myself to multiple listenings of this album. This isn't terrible by any means, but it is not remotely good either. I will say they seem to be trying to do interesting things experimenting with early phasing (unless that is an issue with the recording) A solid 2/5 to strong 2/5

Nothing spectacular. It sounds more like a Jefferson Airplane album than the Byrds.
Being the first to do something matters a lot more if you're also good at it.

Byrd Brothers? More like boring brothers. If I was listening to this album as a lullaby soundtrack it would be spot on. The monotone voices sent me into a lovely slumber. Unfortunately though I was at work and have since lost my job. I blame the Byrds and their shitty album.
Could be nicer
I felt like this should have been an album to really jive with me. It was quite the opposite. I felt nothing really stood out to me at any point aside from one song, “Goin’ Back.” I’ll add that song to my playlist and give the album a 2.

очень смешанные ощущения от альбома. местами это какая-то мешанина, где в правом ухе происходит одно, в левом другое; и как-то все равно больно. местами же это приятная, мягкая музыка. второго, по моим ощущениям, было сильно меньше, поэтому моя оценка скорей 2, чем 3. хотя если брать оригинальный трек лист альбома без бонус треков - это скорей 3, чем 2. отдельно хочу выделить Moog Raga; вряд ли захочется это переслушивать, но это очень самобытно. а ещё очень прикольно оказаться звуковым наблюдателем пребывания группы на студии.

Unenjoyable throughout.
I expected something bland and boring, and it didn't disappoint in that regard.
It's quite nice for the most part, but very gentle, and it didn't really grab me. I don't know why so many bands of the era felt compelled to add in random, tedious instrumental tracks with weird sounds. It's not big and it's not clever.
I really did not need to listen to this album before I am sedated, tossed in the back of a white van, and whisked to an undisclosed location so that my kidnapper can perform predatory actions on my feet in peace. That's when I would just call it quits. What I'm trying to say: This album has no reason being here and I was doing just fine without it. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Another week. Another album from The Byrds. Another box checked.
Very.... uninteresting. But enjoyable. Another album that would be great background music in a Macy's. I don't have anything bad to say about this album. I know my reviews have been pretty shallow, but I think that's because I have more interests in the more experimental subgenres of rock. Either way, this was a solid listen.

Goin Back is a good song. The rest is pretty boring.

A very odd album. There's a lot going off here - and not always in a good way. I preferred the psychedelia over the folk whingeing. Mood Raga is just plain weird. It's a time capsule of a record. Some things are best left in the past.
Prefer the jingle jangle stuff.

I had heard of the Byrds before, but never delved into their catalog much. There was definately quite a bit of musical experimentation throughout this album. Some things worked better than others. Space Odyssey (sounds like they used a kettle whistle as a sound byte throughout, which became annoying after a while) Moog Raga (just an instrumental experimentation with the Moog modular synthesizer, which was awful. Sounded like someone murdering cats) Even though there was a lot of stuff that was "out there" on this album, there were a few good tracks. Favourite songs: Wasn't Born To Follow, Goin' Back, Draft Morning (an example of where experimentation worked. The song starts out slow and soft, lyrics about slow, sunny mornings... All of a sudden the protagonist of the song gets drafted.... A musical bridge which gets heavier with sounds of war... Followed by the heavier, darker lyrics on the second half of the song... It was interesting and unexpected), Old John Robertson Least favourite songs: Moog Raga, Space Odyssey, Tribal Gathering Overall, a few good songs, but too much experimentation with random sounds, and nothing of note really stuck out for me. 2/5
Best Song: Tribal Gathering. A nice, jazzy, pseudo-psychedelic track. Worst Song: Space Odyssey. Imagine my disappointment, thinking that I'd hear a version of Bowie's classic before him, only to be met with this 60's SciFi church hymnal. Overall: An album that shows its age, with all the positives and negatives that entails. I liked the psychedelic aspects that pop up here and there throughout the album, but it also had that element of uniformity that feels true for a lot of older rock. Also, the album was probably a solid 3 before track 11, after which it dropped clear off a cliff. Why include these half-baked tracks to leave a bad taste in the listener's ears?

The album seemingly every band made in the late 60s. Folky, psychedelic harmonies and a song about a "triad." Not as good as the first Byrd's album I heard.

A Byrds album without Eight Miles High and Mr. Y Man isn't so interesting.
I don’t like 60’s jangly guitars or harmonic singing so this album was a chore for me to get thru. Give me more 8 Miles and I’m good though

Heavy 60s with very soothing vocals and even synths on some songs, a lot are instrumental
Un scandale, non content de complètement plagier les Beatles, comme 95% des groupes des années 60, les membres des Byrds ont pris en otage le pauvre Gene Clark, contraint de chanter, attaché à une chaise, les mains liès par une bande de scotch. Fort heureusement, il réussira un beau jour de Juillet à se delivrer de son triste sort, et nous proposera le desormais célébre album No Other.

Had heard some of these songs before, and overall the album is fine, but honestly, most of it is just not my thing. A little weird for me to say this given how much I like so many bands who launched in the 60s, but I really don't like a lot of the late 60s studio music. I think it's the production techniques they were using to make so many things sound "psychedelic" because trippy effects were popular at the time. I have a feeling I'd like some of these songs more if I heard them played without too many effects and production items. Other than that, though, overall I was pretty much bored.

not into this first song at all. tracks 2-4 were okay, they sound so lifeless though. the tracks that lean more heavily into the country sound are not for me at all. 'triad' is the best song here, the only song where i can feel a little bit of emotion. 'i don't really see why we can't go on as three' oookay poly king.

Normally, driving to work at 5:30 am through the English countryside on a sunny summers morning can make any music sound good. However, this absolute dog shit album of american drivel rock spoiled that journey. It’s just another record made from that template of, how to be in a band and write songs for beginners. So take down your Stars and Stripes, take off your maga hat, bin the check shirt and get that fucking ridiculous mullet and goatee combo shaved off and go find some proper music to listen to. You know who you are

I could go on about the boring rambling, the fact it's not even a half hour, and the incredibly poor production, but I won't. Instead, I'm addressing an elephant in the room. I've done this generator long enough that people are generously rating the oldest albums in this generator. If a 1950s, or '60s album pops up, it almost always has at least a *good* rating. I understand ratings are subjective, and I won't deny albums in those decades kicked ass, but every one of them? I would love to see an experiment where a not-so-obvious 2001 album gets slapped with "1961". I'm willing to bet its ratings would soar. I notice this phenomenon with the 1970s as well, and it seemingly drops off as soon as the '80s came along. Favorite Track: "Wasn't Born To Follow".

It was dull to start but got worse, so that by the time Space Odyssey came on, it reminded me of the Monty Pythons Holy Grail, with the band filling Sir Gawain “He’s buggering off, and running away..”. Nah. It’s the late 1960’s. The Byrds say “let do some psychedelic stuff so we’ll be cool like everyone else!” It didn’t work.
Fluffy, hippy dippy, inauthentic scramble. There’s a space themed song in there, that’s typically a red flag for me. Much prefer Sweetheart of the Rodeo, which appears to have come out this year as well

Insipid wannabe Simon and Garfunkel. I couldnt shake the feeling that this was just a bit of a pisstake. Reminded me of a song from Horrible Histories. "More than 50 words to leave your language to your liking..thank a viking." Baynton and Rickard are better songwriters though.

Melodies in search of songs. Very tweet and a little bit half baked. Going back is an excellent song amongst the navel gazing. Ideas from the beatles and simon and garfunkel are cribbed to no avail. Tedious to the point of distraction.
1.5 Shouts to Carol King, but this is some of the most boring “drug music” I could imagine.
Keeping it simple, this genre/era of music is simply not my thing, too poppy & high pitched for my liking.

Quite possibly the worst album I've listened to thus far. It's derivative, indistinct and inauthentic, yet somehow manages to offend me in ways that it's thankfully short runtime can't atone for.
I am grateful to the list for making me sit through albums from artists I’ve heard of but never listened to. This is one of the many artists that I now know that I never have to bother with again. Beige.

Honestly, too similar to the Beatles. They sound like a cover band. I get that was the sound of the era, but it’s not interesting or innovative when it sounds so same.

I obviously knew the band as was interested to see what this album would be like but ... and I hate to say this for any art ... but I didn't like this album at all. It just didn't hold my interest and I didn't enjoy it. Say one good thing? They had good harmonies.

Jangle pop nonsense, with lyrics about nothing and some really bizarre production choices. The use of a sitar is an insult to the whole Indian subcontinent, and the bonus tracks include band members swearing at each other to "do it properly". Not great, but better than Nico or PSB!
God I hate psychedelic music. I would rather listen to any of their contemporaries 100 times more than this garbage.
