At Newport 1960
Muddy WatersIt’s not what I would usually choose to listen to, but was nice background music for work. He walked so Stevie Ray Vaughan could run!
It’s not what I would usually choose to listen to, but was nice background music for work. He walked so Stevie Ray Vaughan could run!
I loved this album. It started strong, with Eleanor Rigby as the second song. Then throughout the album there are so many classics. Even the songs that I didn’t know going into it, I really liked. My favorites were Eleanor Rigby, Here There and Everywhere (this one makes me feel peaceful), Yellow Submarine, Good Day Sunshine (this one makes me feel so happy and in a summery mood), For No One, and Got To Get You Into My Life. I listened to it twice through to be sure I wanted to rate it a 5, and I enjoyed it immensely both times.
I really liked this one! I could see myself listening to it again for sure.
Super short - less than 30 mins. I was surprised I only knew 2 songs. Comforting and reminds me of my parents.
I can’t really see myself listening to this again, but suspicious minds and in the ghetto were bops.
It made me want to dance! But all in all I’m probably not adding it to my rotation.
I liked it a lot more than I thought I was going to! Ramble on and Living Loving Maid were my favorites!
It felt weird and kinda experimental but I really liked it!
The album started off on, but the the last 2/3 of it all started to sound the same to me. Not really my jam, but people who are into harder music might like it.
So theatrical though very macabre. I love an album that tells a story, and this one does it very well - poor Caroline. Even if it is much darker than what I would usually listen to, there is no denying the artfulness.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, and will be adding it to my rotation!
Is it even legal for there to be so many bangers on one album? I had never listened to this one front to back before, but I was surprised by how many I already knew!
DNF. I wouldn’t be mad if it was on in the background, but I had a very hard time purposefully listening to it.
Overall this album made me feel kinda anxious when listening to it, which feels like it might be the point. But I was not a huge fan. I did like Deep Waters though!
Fuck Kanye
I went into it thinking I wouldn’t be that into it, but there were some bangers, for sure. There are a few songs that I could see myself listening to more often
It’s not what I would usually choose to listen to, but was nice background music for work. He walked so Stevie Ray Vaughan could run!
Easy listening for sure! Started my morning off in a great mood. Will definitely put this on again for some background music when working.
Five star album for sure. This is a storytelling masterpiece. It truly transported me to a different place and put me in someone else’s shoes.
Pretty solid classic rock. The whole thing felt like one big jam sesh. I really liked the story behind smoke on the water, as it made the song even more enjoyable!
Solid Friday vibes, even for a girl who usually isn’t a huge fan of disco.
This made me want to go go Memphis and get some BBQ
I kept listening thinking it was gonna grow on me, but it never happened.
Usually I’m not a fan of guitar heavy music, but this was so groovy that it was hard not to enjoy it as background music. Fave song was Have You Ever Been (To Electric Lady Land).
I love the 1970’s folk/singer-songwriter genre! I had never really listened to Neil Young, but I’m not surprised that I loved it. I think Newell’s sentiment of “it makes me nostalgic for a time when I wasn’t even alive” sums this up perfectly! My favorite song was probably Don’t Let It Bring You Down.
This album started super strong for me, but got boring after the first few songs, to the point where I almost DNF-ed it. Supervixen and queer were my favorites, and I would go back and listen to those two again, but not the rest of the album.
Banger of an album. Fun fact- The Beach Boys was my first concert. I was 5 years old.
I liked this way more than I thought I would. Could see turning this on when I’m angry or angsty and the screaming would just feel right. I was super impressed by the drumming and guitar.
This is absolutely music for depressed cowboys. I would listen to this again and again.
This is honestly such a masterpiece. I really gave this album my full attention and it did not disappoint. I feel like I could listen to this album 100 more times and still hear new things Each time. My favorite songs were Us and Them, Money, and Time (even though it made me cry harder than I would like to admit).
Not a fan.
Very sexy and sultry. I definitely liked it more than Third.
A great option for when I’m feeling dark and moody!
Fine to have on in the background, but not something I’m going to usually put on.
Easy listening, feel good music that made me forget all my worries for approx. 38 minutes!
I had only heard the title track, but I really liked this album! I especially loved how Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five tied back to the beginning.
What a fun album! Janis Joplin’s voice is just perfect.
I’m not ever going to choose to put this on, but I wouldn’t be upset if it was background music.
I wanted to like this more than I did. The songs that I knew still slapped (Like a Rolling Stone, Mr. Tambourine Man, Just Like a Woman). But the rest didn’t stand out to me.
The perfect, pretty, mellow album. Reminds me of my childhood. This album lets me live out all my carefree flower child dreams. Favorites are Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall, The 59th St Bridge Song, and Homeward Bound.
Straight bangers!
I thought I was going to hate this more than I did. The accents were sometimes hard to listen to, but there were a couple songs I kinda liked.
I felt like most of these songs sounded the exact same. If I’m feeling angsty, a couple of these songs might hit, but I don’t have much desire to listen to the rest of that album again. Enter Sandman was my fave.
A disco cover of Pink Floyd was the last thing I expected to be on here. This was such a fun album, I really enjoyed it! Take Your Mamma & Lovers in the Backseat stick out to me.
This is a classic don’t judge a book by its cover situation. From listening to Fine Time, I really thought that I was going to DNF this one. But then All The Way and Love Less came on and I actually really loved them! Run is also a good one! There were a few too many electronica songs for me to rate it more than a 3. The songs that i liked, I REALLY liked. But the songs that I didn’t like, I hated.
Such a fun album. It put me in a great mood on this snowy day.
This album just feels so simple compared to what we listen to now.
I had to DNF it about halfway through. It was just too painful.
I did like their use of samples, but their overall sounds isn’t something I would usually seek out. Still enjoyable!
This album is hit after hit for me. Human Nature was my favorite.
I very much enjoyed this album! Teach Your Children was my favorite song.
I liked Sunday Morning a lot, but was not a fan of most of the songs after that.
I got to Overkill and just couldn’t do it anymore. There was so much left after that. DNF
Very nice to listen to, though it’s not what I would usually listen to. Makes me want to learn Spanish!
I surprisingly liked this album way more that I thought I would. I will definitely reach for this when I am in a classic rock mood. Felt like a party!
Listened while cooking and it was pretty good background music.
Very enjoyable!!
I think this type of jazz is just not my thing. I didn’t really even find it enjoyable as background music. I didn’t absolutely hate it, but it just really wasn't it for me.
Queen never disappoints! This album was a bit more experimental but still great!
Solid album. Stand is my fave song: it reminds me of riding in the car with my dad.
This album makes me want to put on a pair of leg warmers.
Great Friday vibes that have me feeling empowered and independent this AM!
So boring!
First thoughts- this album is a little all over the place. I wasn’t a huge fan the first time around, but I feel like I would like it more with each additional listen. Giving it a 3, but it has potential to be a 4 with more listens.
This album is WIERD! But I liked it.
I got 9 songs in before I just couldn’t do it anymore. I absolutely hated this. Somehow it’s both super boring and also very irritating at the same time. I’m honestly surprised I was able to stick with it for that many. And why is it so damn long?
A little too experimental/weird for me.
This album is the best!! It put me in such a good mood, and there are so many bangers on it. Made me feel like I was chilling on the beach mid-summer with absolutely no care in the world!
This album was a little boring. Usually I like mellow music, but this one just really didn’t stand out to me. Fruit trees was ok.
I’m just not into jazz, no matter how much this challenge will try to make me be into it. Just not my thing
Dnf
Nothing special.
My first time listening to a Prince album all the way through. I can see myself listening to Purple Rain, When Dove’s Cry, and Let’s Go Crazy again.
Darn good rootin’ tootin’ cowboy music!
Boring!
Slow Burn is an absolutely amazing song that will be added to my rotation for sure! I really liked Lonley Weekend too. Then it got a little too mellow for me until Happy & Sad. From there on I liked it more than the first half. I would probably give it like a 3.8, so I’m rounding up to a 4!
This album makes me feel like I’m riding my bike through the streets as a kid in summer in the early 80’s!
The screaming in Scentless Apprentice made me want to DNF. Heart-Shaped Box & All Apologies was pretty good. Honestly, the whole thing made me a little anxious. Not for me!
This is fine for background/hyperfocus music. Still not the biggest fan of Jazz, but I didn’t hate it.
Again, pretty good background/focus music. I actually liked this more than yesterday’s album (even though it still gets a 3).
Black Tongue was the first one to get me hooked! I liked a lot of the songs. Reminded me a tiny bit of Olivia Rodrigo, who I love!
This is such a fun and theatrical album! I loved it!!
Snore fest!
It’s crazy that these themes are still so prevalent in America today. Loved how funky this album was!
DNF. Is this music, or more just a collection of sounds? Album art is cool tho.
I liked it better than I thought I would, considering all I knew about Devi was the song whip it and that my father in law is obsessed. It did get pretty repetitive and a little annoying by the end though. I wish I could give it like a 2.7…
Idk what it is about ska, but it always makes me feel so happy!! I love this album!
I love how theatrical this album is. Even without seeing the musical, I can picture all of the characters painted throughout the album. I’ve been a big fan of this album since middle school, and it is still holding up even at (almost) 30!
Pretty standard classic rock. I liked it, and would be happy to listen to this on a road trip with my dad or something. But it still isn’t something I would usually choose to put on.
Pretty good as far as blues are concerned!
DNF. They’ve gotta knock it off with these strange albums. A good album should not open with tinnitus.
This album would probably hit different in the fall. But for today (6/9/24) it was not doing it for me.
This album would get a 4, but I hate Kanye so much that his voice makes me cringe a bit.
Of all the Bob Dylan albums, this was a really good one! Just Like A Woman and Rainy Day Women were my favorites!
I really loved The Louvre and Liability. I think the more I listen to this, the more I would like it. I definitely has potential for me to really like it, so I’m giving it a low 4.
This album ended up being more fun that I thought it would be.
This was such a fun album! It really had me vibing!
I hated every moment of this that I could stomach. Obvious DNF.
This was a nice album. Nothing mind blowing, but nice to listen to at least. The end started to spiral into madness, which made me like it even more! I wish the rating system was more detailed, because I would give this like a 3.8.
Not really my taste. Might be good around Halloween tho.
I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. Gimme three steps and free bird were my favorites.
This was not what I was expecting from the band name alone. It wasn’t the worst
What can I say that Newell already hasn’t? I think I liked this one more than DSOTM!
I loved this album! It was so perfectly retro, yet so many of the songs still hit for me! Mama Said and You Don’t Own Me were my favorites.
Kinda weird but not the worst.
This is wonderful focus/atmospheric music! I will be putting it on again when I have lots of work to do or when I want to romanticize my life. I surprisingly already knew The Girl from Ipanema. I think it’s a tiktok sound.
Sometimes a funky album is just what you need!
I really liked the song Black Hole Sun.
Thinking of Me and Barney (… and me) were pretty good.
Such a fun album! Call me Al is one of my all time favorite songs, and Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes was also a hit. This was a very very high 4 for me, though it didn’t quite reach the 5 threshold.
Such a good album. It really makes me feel like I’m in a Smokey jazz bar in like 2005. I think it will be a really great winter album too. I can see myself curled up by the fire with some hot chocolate with it on in the background.
Enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. It makes me want to go on a road trip. I’m giving it a low 4.
Very chill!
Overall, not really a fan.
I was really vibing with this today!
I was really vibing with this today! It will make an awesome fall album!
This is the first Black Keys album I’ve listened to from front to back. I really liked it!!
Ok background music, but not really for me.
The only song I didn’t really enjoy was Scorpio. It’s a Shame was probably my favorite.
This was a wild ride period. My favorite part was when he started naming instruments.
I liked the first half of this album more than the second half.
I listened to this album on a Friday, and it put me in a nice whimsical mood!
I liked this, but it wasn’t anything super special for me.
This would rank in the high 3s. Enjoyable!
Great background music, and not too long for a jazz album. 3
I hated this so much. Even the song that I went in wanting to like (Kuntz) they made weird. Not for me.
This album is almost a 4 for me, but didn’t quite make it. It was a fun listen though. It sounded almost a little theatrical. And I liked that it was short and sweet.
I love ABBAs fun and silly vibe. Great album!
It was fun to listen to Dolly songs that I don’t already know! Her voice is so iconic. But I do feel like Dolly has better albums out there. A Better Place to Live was my favorite song.
I would rate this in the lower 4s, but I think I liked it more than a 3.
I thoroughly hated this.
Not that bad, but I wouldn’t say I really liked it.
I loved having this on in the background while I worked. It really helped me focus.
I actually really liked this!
This album was too long. While there were a couple bops, there weren’t enough to really elevate this album for me.
I liked this one significantly more than the last Joni Mitchell album we got. It was pretty. I might put it on again when I am in a melancholy mood.
This album challenge has made me realize I’m a big fan of Steely Dan! I love how his music feels nostalgic, but in the best way. 4.8 stars!
Such a fun album that had me smiling and dancing along the whole time! Now I want to watch the documentary about it!
Good album for a cozy fall day.
Killer Queen and Stone Cold Crazy were favorites.
I really liked windmills of your man (kinda reminded me of girl from Panama) and also son of a preacher man.
Life’s a Bitch was a vibe.
The beats were so good, but the lyrics were so bad. It had me dancing and jamming at the same time.
My fave was Jane Says
Just not really my thing.
Married with Children and Live Forever were my favorites. We’ve been on an Oaisis kick lately, so it was nice to listen to some of their music that I didn’t know before.
An album like this was really needed on a day like today. The Disney-esque quality to this music was uplifting and comforting on a day when the world is going to hell.
Solid background music to help me focus at work
