Popular Reviews

Moving Pictures by Rush

Tom Sawyer was one of my favorite songs growing up. I got this album, not really being a Rush fan. I knew all my friends said 2112 was their greatest album. I got that one too, and think this one is 100X better. Side 1 with Tom Sawyer leading it off followed by Red Barchetta, YYZ, and Limelight is perfection. Side 2 doesn't compare but it still pretty great. 5/5

Blur by Blur

Whoo-hoo! Solid listen. 4/5

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Jan 20 2024

Dire Straits has such an iconic sound. You have to love them. Sultans of Swing is probably one of the best songs ever. Rating: 4/5 (A very good listen) Standouts: Sultans of Swing, Water of Love, Others: Down to the Waterline, Setting Me Up, In the Gallery, Wild West End,

Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies
Jan 21 2024

Great sounds. Time of the Season is an all time classic.

Tapestry by Carole King
Jan 23 2024

This album just gets too much love all the time. Ever since I was a kid, all I heard was Tapestry this, Tapestry that. It is so overhyped that I had it in my mind that I should hate it. But, listen to it. It is so easy to enjoy. So many great songs and her voice is really nice. Can't hate what is great. Standouts: So Far Away, It's Too Late, I Feel the Earth Move, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, You've Got a Friend, Natural Woman, Tapestry Others: Beautiful, Where You Lead, Rating: 5/5

Pretenders by Pretenders
Jan 30 2024

Great! Standouts (5/5): Brass in Pocket, Stop Your Sobbing, Kid, Precious, Mystery Achievement, The Wait, Private Life, Lovers of Today 4/5: Up the Neck, Space Invader Rating: 5/5

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
Jan 31 2024

Green Onion is classic and they do some decent covers of Rinky Dink, I got a Woman, Twist and Shout, Stranger on a Shore, Lonely Avenue, One Who Really Loves You, You Can't Sit Down, A Woman A Lover A Friend and Comin' Home Baby.... Yes, the entire album other than Green Onions and Mo Green Onions are just cover versions. They give the songs their own flavor, but any band can do covers..... The Standout Covers: Behave Yourself, Lonely Avenue, and Comin' Home Baby... Rating: 3.5

So by Peter Gabriel
Feb 06 2024

A very well produced album. Jam packed with memorable sounds and songs. Standouts: Sledgehammer, Don't Give Up, Big Time, In Your Eyes, Red Rain, That Voice Again, Mercy Street. Many of the songs are / were overplayed, but overall there is no doubt this is a classic pop album.

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
Nov 30 2024

Basically a Greatest Hits albums, which I thought weren't allowed on this list. Why is this one ok but something like the Eagles Greatest Hits isn't... In any case...let's continue... It's an older style of music that really doesn't fit with any playlist that I would ever play. It is good, and to listen to an album like this every once in a while is cool. Best Tracks (5/5): Cry to Me Others (4/5): Can't Nobody Love You, You Can't Love Them All, He'll Have to Go, Goodbye Baby Rating: 3.5

5/5 Classic Classic-Rock album. So many GREATS: Walk this Way, Sweet Emotion, Big Ten Inch, Toys in the Attic!

5/5. Can I give it a 6/5 You won't find very many albums better than this one.

Ramones by Ramones
Jan 14 2025

Classic and an important record because it brought in a whole new wave of fans to the genre.

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Jan 18 2025

I'm one of those that don't get the love for Bob Dylan. His voice goes from OK to annoying to interestingly good from song to song. This is one of the better albums though, with several well known songs. 4/5

Pink Floyd (Debut Album) 1967 Psychedelic Rock, acid pop, experimental rock, space rock Sometimes I don't know which version of the album to listen to. This one has a UK release, US release and the 40th Anniversary edition (which includes the songs on both UK and US releases.... So I pretty much went with the 40th Anniversary edition so I can get it all in. Either way, the Syd Barrett Pink Floyd is SO different than the Pink Floyd I grew up listening to. I really didn't like this album the first several time I listened to it. BUT, as I kept listening to it because of it's inclusion on this list, I really grew to love it. It is hard to consider it Pink Floyd - because it is so completely different. Yes, I think it is great now. Rating: 4.5 Tracks: Astronomy Domine Lucifer Sam Matilda Mother Flaming Pow R. Toc H Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk Interstellar Overdrive The Gnome Chapter 24 The Scarecrow Bike See Emily Play (US version) Arnold Layne (40th Anniversary) Candy and A Currant Bun (40th Anniversary) Apples and Oranges (40th Anniversary) Paintbox (40th Anniversary)

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Mar 04 2025

Definitely not the best album cover, but it's what inside that matters! Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Green River, Commotion, Night Time is the Right Time, and Tombstone Shadow are all five-star classics. The remaining songs are solid with the standout of them being Wrote a Song for Everyone. No complaints but just wish it was bit longer. Rating: 5/5

The Nightfly by Donald Fagen
Mar 05 2025

One of my favorite albums of all time. I.G.Y. (What a Beautiful World) was the song that brought most of us to the album. I'm so glad that I liked the song so much that I bought the album... it immediately appealed to me. Favorite tracks: IGY, New Frontier, Maxine, Ruby Baby, Green Flower Street, The Goodbye Look, Walk Between the Raindrops, and The Nightfly. Rating: 5/5 (Brilliant) By the way... I.G.Y. = "International Geophysical Year" July 1957 to December 1958.

It is a fine album to listen to. No really complaints. It just seems pretty average. Couldn’t they find something more worthwhile? 3.5

Tarkus by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Mar 16 2025

Progressive rock. Probably one of the most difficult genres to get into (for those that aren't already fans of that style of music.) I've heard this album before. Several times. It is always on lists like this, so I have given it many chances. I still don't get it. I like Brain Salad Surgery so much more. 3.5/5

I Love ELO but this is a lot at once. Maybe if this was a single album instead of a double-album.... anyways still good. 4/5

Moving Pictures by Rush

Tom Sawyer was one of my favorite songs growing up. I got this album, not really being a Rush fan. I knew all my friends said 2112 was their greatest album. Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf
Jun 20 2025

5/5 Easy. Classic. Every song is amazing. Standouts: Two out of Three Ain't Bad, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights, You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth, Bat Out of Hell, For Crying Out Loud

Um. Ummmm. I…. ? What was that? The most interesting part was learning about the controversial calendar it came with. There was one song maybe and a lot of noise. I guess it could be interesting at times. Still giving it 3/5 is generous. 2.5 for me.

The White Album by Beatles
Jul 16 2025

Absolutely brilliant. 5/5. Number 9, Number 9, Number 9.... Ok that one, Revolution 9, has always been a bit odd, but I've grown to love it. The whole album is classic - full of amazing songs.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jul 24 2025
Rapture by Anita Baker
Jul 30 2025

Classic, classic rock album from the supergroup, Cream. Standouts: Sunshine of Your Love, Strange Brew, World of Pain, Blue Condition, SWLABR, Tales of Brave Ulysses, Outside Woman Blues, Take it Back, Mother's Lament. Also ran: We're Going Wrong, Dance the Night Away. *SWLABR is an initialism that stands for "She Walks Like A Bearded Rainbow" the "W" could also be interpreted as "was," so "She Was Like A Bearded Rainbow". Rating 4.5 / 5

Iconic album and sound. Standouts: Gimme All Your Lovin', Legs, Sharp Dressed Man, TV Dinners, Got Me Under Pressure. 5/5

Be by Common
Sep 03 2025

Wayyyyyyyy better this time than the first time I listened to it a couple years ago. Sometimes I rate albums unfairly and didn’t give this one a chance. Glad to have a second chance with a separate account.

KE*A*H** (Psalm 69) by Ministry
Sep 30 2025

I like it good and hard - that's what she said. :) For me, it kind of sounds like an Industrial version of Metallica. I liked it.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly
Oct 31 2025

One great song. The rest is pretty good.

Close To You by Carpenters
Nov 16 2025

Difficult one. It’s so cheesy…so “nice”…. I dont know if I like it, love it, or just hate it. Depended on the day and my mood. I’ll go mid on it. 3/5

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Nov 17 2025

One of the best albums ever and the Beatles have 2 or 3 that are better than this one?

Licensed To Ill by Beastie Boys
Nov 23 2025

Love this album. Start to finish it is a classic. Favorite: No Sleep ‘Till Brooklyn.

I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen
Nov 29 2025

First We Take Manhattan! Then the world. Thank God for Leonard Cohen. When I see those questions about who would you bring back from the dead for just one more concert....for me, it's always Leonard Cohen. This is not my favorite album by him, but it is still great. Standouts: First We Take Manhattan, Take this Waltz, Everybody Knows, I'm Your Man, Ain't no Cure for Love.... damn everything!

Imagine by John Lennon
Dec 01 2025

Imagine a world without John Lennon. Next week will be the 45th anniversary of John Lennon's death. I will always remember Casey Kasem's AT40 show when Casey announced the death. I was just 13 years old at the time. This is a really great album. Standouts: Imagine, Jealous Guy, Oh My Love 5/5

Larks' Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson
Mar 06 2026

Starts out great and then becomes a bit too Prog Rock for me. I loved the other King Crimson album on the list though, so I had high hopes for this one. Good, but not great. Still a solid 3.5.

Stripped by Christina Aguilera
Mar 07 2026

Very good Pop album. Nothing I would choose to play, but If it is on, i’m enjoying. 4/5 Standouts: Fighter, Can’t Hold us Down, Beautiful, The. Voice Within.

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Mar 09 2026

Interesting album. Odd sound, but very enjoyable. One of the reasons I joined this group to find new music. This album is as old as I am, and it’s new … to me. Lots of great tracks led by Yellow Brick Road. 4/5

The Pleasure Principle by Gary Numan
Mar 12 2026

This album is so much more than CARS, the only song that most Americans know from Gary Numan. Listening to this album years ago make me want to hear more from Gary Numan, and now I have most of his other albums. 4/5

Mar 14 2026

Amazing voice! Love this album. It makes me want to stop everything and go listen to his entire discography (solo and as Smog). This is 100% the reason why I love the 1001 project.

Paris 1919 by John Cale
Mar 15 2026

Did not know this was one of the members of Velvet Underground. Very cool. The album cover and title really through me off. i was expecting something different. But, when I listened to it, I immediately became a fan of his voice and style.

The Bends by Radiohead
Mar 16 2026

Probably my favorite Radiohead album. 4/5

Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris
Mar 17 2026

Of all the great country albums, why this one? It is nice - nothing wrong with it, but it really isn’t special in a any way.

Olympia 64 by Jacques Brel
Mar 18 2026

I know a few Jacques Brel songs that were remade in English, so, I have an idea of who he is and how important he is to music of the 70s. This album is nice, wish I spoke French….

Devotional Songs by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
Mar 19 2026

No thanks. No offense, but not really very interesting at all.

Mar 21 2026

I like other Brian Eno albums…. I like the Talking Heads….. expected his to be better than I found it. Meh. The first couple songs gave me Hope but there are no standouts for me.

Mar 22 2026

There are a couple of really good tracks but the rest are a little less interesting. I’ve heard the album many times and in general I’m positive about it, but at times it does seem long and I wouldn’t say boring, but it isn’t very exciting. I think i will need to listen to it for a few more years to get into it more. I’ll give 3.5 for now.

Blood And Chocolate by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Mar 24 2026

Great Elvis Costello album.

Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek & The Dominos
Mar 25 2026

Cut some of the songs out and make just one single 5/5 album…. As it is: It has some great tracks, and a few songs that just don't seem necessary. Stand outs: Layla, Bell Bottom Blues, Nobody Knows When You’re Down and Out, Have You Ever Loved a Woman, Thorn Tree in the Garden, Keep on Growing. 4/5

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar
Mar 27 2026

Disgusting, horrible, misogynistic, ignorant crap. 0/5, 0/10, 0/100.

Tuesday Night Music Club by Sheryl Crow
Apr 03 2026

Some albums are just plain good. I can listen to this album anytime and enjoy it. The problem is that it isn’t an album where I say, “Man! I need to listen to this one again.” It is full of great songs like All I Wanna Do, Leaving Las Vegas, Strong Enough… 4/5

The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett
Apr 08 2026

Most either love this or hate it. I am closer to the love it side of the range. The more you listen the better it gets. Even the quirky out-of-tune singing is a joy! 4/5

Metallica by Metallica
Apr 11 2026

Unbelivable that they can have so many classic albums. Each one I listen to I think THIS one is their best. Maybe they just have three albums tied for their best album. Love this album. 5/5

OK by Talvin Singh
May 15 2026
May 24 2026

Music, beat, and all is good but the lyrics. F this and F that... I agree with all the other reviews that slam the Explicit lyrics. Not an album that I would think should be preserved and appreciated. It's bad. 1/5

Sunshine Superman by Donovan
May 29 2026

It was pretty good, but after listening to it on repeat all day the song started getting annoying LOL. Great sound though. 4/5

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Jun 04 2026

There is a lot to like on this classic album. 5/5

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Jun 05 2026

Full of catchy riffs, I don't think you need to be a fan of Jazz to enjoy the album. It definitely gets you tapping your toes. The album is mainly Organ and saxophone based with slightly noticeable guitar and drums mixed in. Jimmy Smith helped make the Hammond B-3 organ a legend in the music business.

Another Green World by Brian Eno
Jun 06 2026

Very interesting and unique! I'll not only come running to tie your shoes, I'll come running to listen to this again and again. :)

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Jun 14 2026

The first, or one of the first "Rock and Roll" albums. Seems pretty tame in 2026 but for 1956 this was pretty wild - or so I read... a bit before my time. :) Classics: Blue Suede Shoes --------- Surprisingly good: Blue Moon, I'm Counting on You, I'll Never Let You Go ------------------- Very Good: ------------ I Love You Because, Just Because, Trying to Get to You, I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Cry Over You, Money Honey Can do without this one: Tutti Frutti --------------------------- I'll give it 5/5 because of it's impact on music and it is still a really great listen today.

The White Room by The KLF
Jun 15 2026

Best Tracks: 3AM Eternal, What Time is Love, Justified and Ancient, Last Train to Transcentral, Build a Fire ------------- Next Best: Church of the KLF, Make it Rain ---------- A great listen. Still after all these years it still makes me feel like I'm at the Disco in Holland again where I heard many of these songs. 4.5/5

Opus Dei by Laibach
Jun 17 2026

Three great songs ... covers.... nothing original, but still they are great to hear... NOTHING else on the album contributes to anything interesting or unique. 2.5

1984 by Van Halen
Jun 19 2026
Jun 20 2026

Best Tracks: In My Arms, Sunworshipper, Destroy Rock & Roll, Drop the Pressure Yes, it can be annoying at times, but mostly this is pretty good. What's annoying? Well, as many have also commented, it is pretty bad when he doesn't know how to say very common names like David Bowie (BOO-E).

Suicide by Suicide
Jun 27 2026

Cool and interesting album. This is one of the best “finds” I have discovered doing this 1001+ album journey! Standouts: Cheree, Johnny, Frankie Teardrop, Che…. 4/5

Fun House by The Stooges
Jun 28 2026

I like the Stooges self-titled and Raw Power very much. I was excited to listen to this one - that I never heard before - but, I never got into it at all. 3/5 for now, maybe it will grow on me later.

Purple Rain by Prince
Jun 29 2026

One of the easiest 5/5 I'll ever give. Best tracks: Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, Let's Go Crazy, Darling Nikki

The Cars by The Cars
Jun 30 2026

100% deserves a 5/5! This is a gem! Just What I Needed My Best Friend's Girl You're All I've Got Tonight Bye Bye Love Moving in Stereo Good Times Roll All Mixed Up I'm in Touch with Your World Don't Cha Stop

Infected by The The
Jul 01 2026

I was at a friends house back in 1989 when Mind Bomb was released. I was immediately a fan. I bought three The The CDs (Soul Mining, Infected and Mind Bomb). Infected really didn't do much for me for several years. It didn't give me the same vibe as Mind Bomb. It was after no hearing it for years, that I picked it up and started listening to it. It was then, that I realized it was good. Really Good. I still have a special place in my heart for Mind Bomb, but this is a near classic. 4/5

Back to Basics by Christina Aguilera
Jul 07 2026

This, to me, is one of those albums that are absolutely good, but not very original or exciting. Good songs, great performance but it isn't something I'd ever choose to listen to - if it is on, I'll enjoy it though... It is very mid.

Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta
Jul 15 2026

A lot progressive and a touch of post-hardcore gives this album a pretty interesting sound. Is it something I like though? I think it has its moments but the 59 year old me doesn't like the loud stuff as much as younger me did. 3.5 / 5

Supa Dupa Fly by Missy Elliott
Jul 16 2026

Missy Elliott has a couple really great songs - not on this album though, but most of her stuff is crap. This is NOT good. Best song: The Rain (only because it is an old classic).... 2/5 (and I'm being generous).

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Jul 17 2026

It's a good album. Not much else to say...

Spiderland by Slint
Jul 18 2026

Pretty good sound. Songs can be a little long. Mostly favorable.

Is This It by The Strokes
Jul 19 2026

Solid Standouts: Someday, Last Nite, Hard to Explain 4/5

London Calling by The Clash
Jul 20 2026

5/5 Standouts: London Calling, Lost in the Supermarket, Clampdown, Train in Vain, Rudy Can't Fail

Movies by Holger Czukay
Jul 22 2026

Cool in the Pool is pretty great. 3.75/5

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jul 23 2026

Anything by CCR is an auto 5/5. Standouts: Proud Mary, Born on the Bayou, Keep on Chooglin', Bootleg Their version of Good Golly Miss Molly is probably better than the original.

Queen Of Denmark by John Grant
Jul 24 2026

Album cover: 0/5 Music: 5/5 Looking at the cover, I was not expecting to like it. I have never heard of John Grant or the Czars. I spent the day listening to it and it quickly grew on me. The songs are catchy enough to get my attention. The most lyrically brilliant song on the album is the final/title track: Queen of Denmark. I think a lot of the lyrics are very relatable to me. Standouts: Where Do Dreams Go to Die, TC & Honeybear, Sigourney Weaver, Chicken Bones, Marz, Queen of Denmark, Other Notable: It's Easier, Silver Platter Club. I also checked out the Bonus material from the Limited Edition. Best track: Fireflies.

This album grows on you. The first time I heard it, I wasn't impressed. I thought it was kind of cheesy but his great voice and exceptional lyrics won me over. This album is clearly not for everyone based on the many 1-star reviews. Those that are into this kind of quality music will definitely enjoy. I also got into the four bonus songs from the European Edition just in case they were supposed to be included. Favorite Songs: If...., Everybody Knows (Except You), If I Were You, 5/5

Love this album! First time I heard it a few years ago, I thought it was nice but didn't give it much thought after that. Then it came up on this list, and I realized how great it is after hearing it several times today. It just keeps getting better. So nice after hearing some loud noise rock album previously. I'll take this any day of the week. Standouts: This is the Way, The Body Breaks, The Beard is for Siobhan, Todos Los Dolores 5/5 5/5

About 45 seconds into Goldfinger I realized it was a song I knew. The album was better than I was expecting. Standouts: Goldfinger, Girl From Mars, Oh Yeah, I'd Give You Anything, Kung Fu, Angel Interceptor 4/5

Nice sounding album but not spectacular

Come Find Yourself by Fun Lovin' Criminals

Standouts: Scooby Snacks, Bombin' the L, King of New York, We Have All the Time in the World, The Wikipedia page mentioned the I'm Not In Love/Scooby Snacks single, so I listened to that as well, even though not part of the album. They should have included the I'm Not in Love track in the bonus material.... Their version of the Louis Armstrong Bond song is exceptional. I like the laid back vibe the album gives. 4/5

Listened to this several times over the past few years. Totally don't remember it at all. Each song is nice, but completely forgettable. 3/5

It's really good. But, I've never been a fan of their sound. I wouldn't listen to it often but I recognize quality and have to give it props. 4/5

2018, Genre: Rock Cover art: 5/5 Rock? Really? Static Resistance sounds a bit "rock" but the rest of the album is much more electronic with elements of rock. The first song hurts from the inside out - something about the sound that gives me heartburn LOL. Not sure how much I like it. I definitely don't hate it and I think it is better than many albums on the list. I've actually been listening to this album for several years and feel like I don't really have an opinion on it yet.... Rating: 3.5

I can’t stand her voice. Sorry, I have really tried to appreciate Joan Baez. I don't get it.

The Best song on the album is New York New York... unfortunate timing for this guy that the album was released just after 911... and he displays the American Flag upside down on the album cover. While the federal Flag Code restricts this inversion to severe emergencies, using an upside-down flag as a form of political protest is legally protected as free speech... I respect his opinion but not everyone is going to agree with those politics. That being said, the album in still a bore and I'd choose Bryan Adams over Ryan Adams any day! Best Track: New York, New York 3/5
