No thanks. Not for me. It didn't make me want to put a fork into my ears like the Brazilian heavy metal, but still
Not my favorite Smith's album and Morrissey has more recently exposed his far right/fascist side - but still some good songs in there. I regularly listen to Bigmouth Strikes Again: "Now I know how Joan of Arc felt as the flames rose to her Roman nose and her Walkman started to melt".
I just didn't get into it. The first song intrigued me, but then I couldn't make it to the end.
I've seen Sting in concert a few times in the past years (a very memorable one was with Shaggy) - it's incredible how he's still got it: "Every Breath You Take" and such a range of songs on each album.
An interesting discovery: Drake's voice got on my nerves sometimes and no single song stood out for me.
I listened to the Red and Blue albums loads of times in my early teens. I crossed paths with Paul once at a Stella McCartney event in London. What do you say to someone like that: "I like your work"? If you've never seen the film "Yesterday", it's amusing.
It was fine, but not really my thing.
Wow, I like Cohen's Best Of from the late 70's, but this 80's stuff is crap.
Enjoyed rehearing a few of these songs and discovering others.
I've been listening to "I'm Shakin" for a couple of years so it was nice to hear the surrounding album. I didn't find it incredible, but it was enjoyable.
Well, I had high hopes for this one and after a strong start; it faded and become monotonous for me.
Well, I can remember my older brother having this album way back when, so there were a lot of familiar sounds.
Another one that I was happy to see appear on our list. As I expected, the lyrics are overly simplistic (I know them better for "She don't use jelly, she uses vaseline"), but I enjoyed the sounds.
Well, I prefer "Goo" and "Daydream Nation", but it was nice to hear this album. Some wasn't great: "I'm just from Encino. Why are you so meano?" Classic or ridiculous?
Nothing that I'd listen to again
Not my kind of things but it was ok
Not bad, but too much Eno and not enough Bowie for me. If I wanted an ambient album (or at least Side B), I'd get an Eno album - where is Bowie's voice on Side B: nowhere.
Brings back good memories right from the start. Loved hearing "Our Lips Are Sealed" but no other highlights for me. Too early 80's with no substance: the same thing over and over.
Not really my thing, but a few interesting tracks. I preferred the start which was more jazzy.
I generally don't like live albums, but I quite enjoyed this one - except that clearly the song order of the original concert(s) was not respected. Not something that I'll listen to again, but it does encourage me to listen to other Cash albums.
It's Ok, but there was nothing memorable - for me.
I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I almost skipped Stairway but then decided that listening to the album means listening to everything.
Not wonderful but enjoyable.
Late '80s: I definitely remember Lloyd Cole and The Commotions, but more the 1994-1989 compilation album. Still quite enjoyable. High 4 for me.
Not really my thing, so I won't be listening to it again.
Not my thing and I don't think that I needed to hear that before I die.
Enjoyable - I found myself tapping my foot even if it wasn't an incredible discovery.
Interesting. I don't think that I'll ever listen to it again and not sure that it makes my 1001 albums to hear before you die, but now I have.
Enjoyable with a few songs that I really like, and several memories: like Moving in Stereo that Bingo the Dog used to blast outside his dorm room. And my eldest brother having the original vinyl back in the late 70s/early 80s.
I was never a big Stones' fan, but I must say that their work is impressive. Several great songs in here - some that I knew and some that I \"discovered\" (don't remember hearing before, but probably have). I know that I have seen or even owned a copy with the original working zipper - maybe it was one of my brothers who had it.
Hmm, interesting, but I didn't need to hear that before I die, and won't need to hear it again. Nutrocker was interesting.
Well, I found a few interesting nuggets in there. Overall, it was some fine Zepp - which I did not know very well other than Immigrant Song.
I was a bit hesitant when this came up, but really enjoyed it. I listened to it a few times and only skipped a couple of songs on the third run through. He is such a good poet - and doesn't worry about rhymes being perfect.
Some of it was very repetitive but there were a couple of tunes that I can imagine listening to again.
Enjoyable. A nice U2 album - an evolution. This one I am going to listen to again. It's a pity it's not Friday's album cause then it's queued up and ready for the weekend.
After reading some Global reviews on this site, I was worried - but I quite enjoyed several of the opening tunes. I am definitely going to go back and relisten to this one.
Interesting. Again, not one that I'll listen to again, but some interesting tunes in there and it wasn't unenjoyable.
Yeah, wow. Lots of good and great numbers on there. I loved hearing many of these during a concert in Germany in 2023. It's great that Dave and Martin are still in form after all these years, even if Fletch is now gone (RIP).
It was fine, but nothing noteworthy for me - and kind of the same stuff over and over. I lost track of when a track ended and the next one started. I even listened to it twice. Nothing memorable. Maybe it was hard after Depeche Mode's Violator.
I enjoyed this album, but there was nothing too memorable. I guess I just like k.d.'s style.
Well, I started it and thought there were a few songs that I could possibly listen to again if I had to, but nothing that I enjoyed so far.
I just didn't really enjoy this album. And it's a pity, because clearly others did...
A few good solid songs on there, but not an album's worth.
Kind of typical Bowie. An interesting concept, some good songs, but not overwhelming -- even if Jean Genie is still going strong over 50 years later.
Well, I listened and listened and thought -- "but is the 80's Paisley Underground or 60's music," as I'd not investigated it beforehand and just listened to it while mowing the lawn... Ho hum. 1 incredible song and 1 weak album.
I'm generally not a big fan of Dylan, but I liked this album quite a bit. I doubt that I will listen to the entire album again, but still.
I quite enjoyed this. Just a couple of highlights for me, but enjoyable.
While I like the Pixies, I was never a huge fan of this album. It's OK, but nothing that I enjoy other than "Where is My Mind?"
Just not something that I would ever listen to - why is this considered something that I must hear before I die? There are issues with this "list".
I quite enjoyed this. More than most, I guess
I was pretty sure that I was going to love this album before listening to it end-to-end. I already knew several songs from it: Baby's On Fire, On Some Faraway Beach. Some of them: I don't love at all - that's for sure. Indeed, the lyrics are not catchy - it's the sounds that count.
I liked this much more than the Miles Davis, but as I don't see myself listening to this again - I give it a 3. Enjoyable, but not memorable.
I will always remember listening to Riders on the Storm on Saturday mornings while we were finishing swimming practice - kicking back and forth while our coach regularly moved the needle back to the beginning so that it became a never-ending 30 minute song in my head.
Enjoyable, but not really my thing. I need a bit more physical punch - guitars.
Hohum... AH, this was just after the departure of Howard Devoto as the vocalist. That's probably why it doesn't resonate with me.
Yeah, it was OK, but I was getting a bit bored by the end.
WOW, just wow. That's a really good album. I am really glad that I listened to that.
I enjoy this as much as the first time that I heard morsels of the album while in the south of France on vacation. Just so very enjoyable.
Not bad. A few songs that I'd listen to again even if I didn't find the whole album that incredible.
I rather liked some of this. I've listened to the cover of Can You Get To That by Balancing Act so I rather enjoyed the original.
Yeah, I enjoyed a few things on this, but not really the whole album - maybe I didn't get the entire package as I listened to it in a few sessions.
Yeah, it was fine, but I was underwhelmed by the album - a couple of memorable songs, but that was it.
Honestly, I don't know how to rate this one. There isn't really anything that I would listen to again. It was interesting, but rather repetitive - or maybe I missed the point.
I found it boring. I don't even remember listening to any of the songs.
Wow, I really enjoyed listening to this album from start to end. Several songs that I knew and good reminders of more obscure numbers.
I enjoyed this one. Very different from The Clash, but, for me, the same level of enjoyment.
Yeah, I have always really enjoyed this album, but it's been too long since I listened to it start-to-end. Thanks 1001!
Ugh. Almost no redeeming qualities about this album. It doesn't show the genesis or evolution of the band, just that they know what a cover is...
An interesting discovery. This is what I wanted when I joined this group. Not sure that I'll ever listen to them again, but I might.
Hmm, I really liked this, but what ruined it for me was that Kurt couldn't handle doing it truly acoustically. So the story goes, he had MTV hide an amp and effects pedal under a fake monitor at his feet.
There were a few songs that I almost liked, but, as a whole, it was not great.
I liked this more than I expected, but less than a "classic" album.
I was tapping my foot, but didn't really enjoy this album as much as I had hoped.
I listen regularly to "I Wanna Be Adored" as it's on my favorite play list, so this as a nice opportunity to hear the rest of the album.
WOW, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this, right from the start. Just as many "keepers" as The Stones and The Stone Roses just before them - and the album isn't done yet.
Ok but not great after a string of very strong albums.
Wow. The album that created heavy metal after the flower power 60's. I'm not a fan of metal, but this was good.
Good but not ny thing. Nothing that I could hold on to.
I liked this. I'm a fan of Vampire Weekend and DP reminded me of them.
Nothing for me. I know Dolly and a few of her songs but none on this album.
I don't get it. Was he under contract to make a double album so fell back on "western and country" standards?
I really enjoyed this. I have the first song on a playlist and found a few more keepers.
Very good but not great. A few standouts and a few mediocre ones.
Enjoyable but some of the covers didn't work for me.
Ho hum, I guess I was expecting more as I really enjoy "Paper Planes" and "Bad Girls" but didn't feel like it was the same groove.
Several enjoyable and memorable songs in here. A few duds, but nothing is perfect.
Ho hum... no thanks. Pretty boring stuff (other than the well known numbers).
I don't know - this album just struck me as really good - and I enjoyed it so much when I owned the CD. I must have over listened to it at the time. Sure it's not a classic, but I was so happy to hear many of these songs again.
Hmm, not really for me. It put me to sleep, but I think that I appreciate the complexity of what he is trying to do.
I was really surprised at how many songs I know and like on this album. I guess I don't listen to Soundgarden enough.
I just couldn't get into this. Feelin' Alright is good, but nothing else was memorable. Such a pity as the individuals should have been able to make something worthwhile, but maybe they were too young when they were Traffic
Ho hum. This kind of album suffers from the other wonderful stuff that's around it.
I was surprised by how much I liked this, but hesitated between 4 and 5... in the end, it was solid with a few numbers that I enjoyed, but just short of 5*s for me.
Enjoyable but rather hit and miss.
Hmm, it was fine but I was a bit underwhelmed. A pity because I wanted to enjoy this more than I did.
Too repetitive, even if that seems to be the ethos of post-punk.
Enjoyable but not mind bending.
I didn't really get into this.
It was OK, but no real highlights for me.
This reminded me a lot of a current Beninese Angélique Kidjo, who I really enjoy - but a few throwaway songs (or which aged poorly).
Ugh. I found no redeeming qualities - not something that I could not listen to, but no something that I enjoyed.
Such a pity that Apple Music (and YouTube) only have 2/3 of this album. It's so enjoyable. I'm not sure I'll come back to listen again but I definitely enjoyed it.
Unfortunately this was not for me. I wanted to enjoy it and really made an effort to listen right to the end, when I was rewarded with Fight The Power. I'm going back to listen to It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back.
Not too bad. A few numbers that I liked in there.
I liked this, but didn't love it. There was something missing. I have a vague memory of The Triffids from my 80's college radio days.
I struggled with this album. Not bad, but nothing really noteworthy.
I didn't like this as much as I was expecting to: a few amusing songs, but nothing very memorable for me.
I was disappointed. Their previous (compilation) album had a number of songs that I love. This one: a bit dull.
Not too bad.
Just: UGH. Definitely not for me
Enjoyable *but* it didn't really go that extra mile that I was hoping for after Megadeath's horrible album.
Some good points but lots of the same over and over.
Just so enjoyable. I'll definitely listen to this again even if I haven't for many years.
I'm not a fan. I just couldn't really hang onto anything.
Enjoyable. A little bit hit and miss, but some good hits.
I really enjoyed this, but it got rather hit and miss at the end. Too many misses.
A few enjoyable spots but a bit monotonous by the end. Not enough variety.
I really liked to hear this album again... the beginning was good, but then I felt like it lost some of its power.
Boring.
I just couldn't find any redeeming qualities with this album.
A good solid album. Enjoyable
Wow a Symphony and then a Sonnet. Yeah, so what? Pretty boring. It was easy listening but that's not what I expect from one of the albums to listen to before I die.
Oh I really liked this. I only knew a song or two, but enjoyed this one more the others recently.
It was fine, but not something that I needed to hear urgently.
Well, it was OK, but just not that great, in my mind.
Not bad, but not outstanding. Nothing above average - for me,
Am I supposed to listen to the 38-song, 2h8m version that Apple Music proposes? Or the original 5-song, 43m version as released? A pity that Apple doesn't offer me the original format/length.
Hmm, I guess I just don't know what to think of this. It was fine, but not really my thing.
I really enjoyed this album - I knew "Sex Beat" from the compilation "Left Of The Dial: Dispatches From The '80s Underground" so it was nice to hear the whole thing. 3? 4? I don't know...
Just right. This hit the spot for me.
Just so good to hear this in its entirety again. What an album! I guess that I spent the later 3/4 waiting for another hit to pop up, but I still enjoyed revisiting "Bullet the Blue Sky" and "In God's Country"
It's good but not something that I'd listen to.
I learned (or, at least, was taught) to disco with Le Freak so this song has a special place in my memory.
I really like "Been Caught Stealin'" so it was nice to hear the whole album - not as strong as I'd hoped, but not a bad listen.
So much better than the other Cohen album that we had to suffer through. Not brilliant, but good. I especially like The Partisan.
Not great - just a couple of things that I enjoyed listening to. I guess I am not a huge fan of gothic rock even if I thought that I liked The Cure.
Oh my. I have always enjoyed this album. Sure, some of it sounds like it's designed to be hits, but so well written and timely. And I love the story that Knopfler picked up the lyrics from a dude in an NYC appliance store.
It was ok but nothing incredible.
I liked Janis Joplin's voice but not the rest of the album. Oh well.
It's OK but not really great.
I liked hearing this album even if I wasn't a huge fan: Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood.
Not as bad as the other Leonard Cohen albums. Still not my favorite, but a few decent songs.
I enjoyed this quite a bit. Relaxing and a few memorable bits. Something to listen to again
Strong 4 for me. Almost a 5... I really like "No Compassion": those words speak to some of the stuff I've gone through and I wish that my wife would catch on to the same idea. Also enjoy "Don't Worry About the Government" and "Pulled Up" even if that is light and silly. A good closer.
A few good things but a few nothings in there.
I remember this very well: 8-track tape driving across the country (52 hours from Michigan to Seattle). Not really something that I needed to hear again, but I don't mind.
It's not my favorite, but it's good. I enjoyed listening to it once more, but don't feel like I need to rush out and buy the vinyl or CD versions to listen to more frequently. One of the songs did lead me to go to a biographical play about Lenny Bruce while I was in NYC, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I guess that means a 3.5...
A bit too hit-and-miss for a 4, so it's a 3 for me. Some things that I like and some that I can't even remember listening to immediately after they end.
It's fine, but not great. I enjoyed it, but probably won't ever listen to it again.
Nothing that I liked, but not bad (not crappy Brazilian Heavy Metal).
I didn't really get into this. Maybe after another few listens, but not yet.
I hesitate between a 4 and a 5: for me, Kurt is just writing drivel - look at the lyrics, they're a mess. I'd like a little something more, but people seem to think that he was a genius. Huh? "Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah (etc)" - "I'm on a plain. I can't complain". Wow! Incredible.
Not bad, but just not my thing. And some stuff is so dated.
Not bad. I enjoyed it. I wish there were more female artists in this list.
I just couldn't get into this. Nothing resonated for me.
I enjoyed this one more than the previous one. I'm not a huge fan, but I'll listen to more of his (limited) catalog again.
Just a great album overall: start to finish. Oddly enough, I had listened to "The Wall" earlier in the day before realizing that "Dark Side" was next on the 1,001 list, so it was a bit of a Floyd overload day but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Overall, not something that I need to listen to again, but I did hear some things that I liked and enjoyed hearing "Alright" again, so I will upgrade from a "this is not crap" 2 stars to 3 stars. Maybe it even deserves 4, but I can't hear that...
I enjoy the honky tonk mix of country and rock to an extent. A few redeeming qualities, but some of those sad wind songs were too much.
Too many screetchy guitars noises with no reason... not my thing. I couldn't find a redeeming quality here.
This didn't age well
Generally speaking, I am not a big fan of Dylan, but this album was really great. Some things were too long or too much harmonica for my taste.
A strong 4: what a pity that we lost Janis before this album came out.
Unfortunately this is a 1 for me, even if we've had worse albums. There's just nothing that I'll listen to again (I hope).
A few nice bits but a bit monotonous...
Just not for me. I am not a fan of this type of music. I listened to things a couple of time, but couldn't get into it.
This was OK, but most of the best songs weren't by Otis - except "Respect" which I enjoyed - almost as much as the Aretha Franklin version.
Strong 4, almost a 4.5 for me.
This was OK, but nothing incredible.
I have always liked these early "The unnamed" albums: Car, Scratch, Melt, Security -- and the "Plays Live" album with "I Go Swimming". This might not be the best of his 4 first albums, but it's damn good.
I just didn't get into this at all.
Too repetitive.
This merits a 3, but as there are so few women in the list, I'm bumping her up to 4.
It was Valentine's Day so I let my wife rate this one. They are still listened to even by GenZ.
I was disappointed: a diverse collection of songs but it was very hit and miss with lots of misses.
Hmm, it was fine but nothing noteworthy - normally a 2, but +1 for female artists.
It was fine, but nothing that I felt like I need to listen to again.
Enjoyable but I can only really give it a 3.
Not bad. Oddly I liked Ba-Di-Da, and didn't like The Dolphins.
No thanks. Not for me. It didn't make me want to put a fork into my ears like the Brazilian heavy metal, but still
Nothing that I enjoyed.
