Foo Fighters
4/5
*Solid 90s rock album, especially for its time
*Tempos were a little bit slow for my taste, but its a great group of songs
King Crimson
3/5
*The jazz stuff was cool but the overall album was a little too all over the place. Very atmospheric but not consistent enough with a theme for me to give it more than a 3.
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
*Everyday people is a banger
*Lots of good energy and funk sound but some got repetitive over the album
*Loved the band backing the vocals
Pearl Jam
2/5
*Jeremy is great but not much else held my attention.
Guided By Voices
1/5
*Not my preferred type of music and nothing hooked me as interesting or noteworthy.
MGMT
3/5
*Some big hits...lots I remember as sports talk radio/podcast bumper music.
*Unique sound, especially for its time, but the mid-tempo stuff feels sluggish at times which can make it get boring.
Hookworms
2/5
Atmospheric but not much more than that. Some cool moments with interesting beat patterns, but that's where it ends.
The Sonics
4/5
*Love the low quality production- very proto-punk
*Their original stuff is good- I'd give it a 5 if there wasn't so many covers
*I would have totally been into this if I was a teenager at the time

Randy Newman

*too many slow to mid tempo songs, but I liked the songs that moved

Funkadelic
4/5
Cool album that is very funky. Love the keyboards and funky guitar especially.
Otis Redding
3/5
Cool collection of songs but it loses a star for being mostly covers.
Brian Eno
3/5
Cool concept and interesting layering of the sample with the guitars.
Wish I could give it a 3.5.
Joni Mitchell
3/5
*Cool use of the Moog synth and the lyrics are compelling. I just don't find too many of the songs catchy enough to want to listen to more times.

Public Enemy
4/5
*Awesome hip hop beats with poignant lyrics
*Bring the Noise is an all time song
*Some of the beats/tracks loop a little long which can get repetitive, but overall, awesome album!

3/5
Solid soul album but some of the lost love stuff is too much. The keyboard/saxophone moments are great.
The Band
3/5
*Like the use of jazz organ and it has some moments with some funky riffs
*Just too slow/mid tempo for me to truly enjoy all the way through
Incredible Bongo Band
4/5
*Interesting concept and the band with the bongos sounded tight
Neil Young
3/5
*Young's voice on the first few tracks is grating but it gets better across the album. The harmony vocals are a high point of the album.
*Southern Man is a great track
*This is good musicianship but doesn't excite me enough to give more than a 3.
The Pogues
4/5

3/5

2/5
*Atmospheric and Ephemeral
*Good background music but not much more than that
Cat Stevens
3/5
*I liked this more than I thought I would
*Some songs were too mid-slow tempo but the hits were great
Joy Division
3/5
*I respect that this was iconic at the time it came out and that its the only Joy Division sound with Curtis' vocals- but I just find him brooding without a true feeling of moody or mellow vibes.
*This is not bad to listen to, it just doesn't make me feel as amazing as I feel it should based on the popularity of the album and its cover artwork. My punk preference is 80's and 90's punk, and not much post-vibes.
*Glad I can say I've actually listened to this to maintain my "just ok" thoughts about it.
Norah Jones
4/5
*Good soulful sound to her voice
*Definitely sounds like a more contemporary Blue Note album
*Too many slower/mid tempo songs to make a full 5, but a great album

4/5
Great album- Adele's voice is incredible and Hello is awesome.
Not quite as solid of an album as 21
The Youngbloods
4/5
Fun mix of jazz and rock
Ananda Shankar
4/5
*Interesting take on the covers with the sitar
*No question about great musicality, just don't know how much I would re-listen to this, but it was cool to be exposed to
DJ Shadow
4/5
*Cool lo-fi beats in several songs
*Unique approach with the sampling, but a cool sound

*A lot of songs seemed to have a pretty slow temp that almost dragged
*The orchestra was a cool feature.

3/5
*A heavy emotional album that is beautiful at times, but drags a bit as well
*This grew on me as I listened...didn't like it at first, but thought it was ok by the end.

*Strong lyrics and an intense listen
*Good punk/alternative sounds at times but pretty abrasive
*Would need several listens to get into

3/5
*I get the musical quality of this, but I'm not an overly big Dylan fan...don't love the voice and the lyrics don't do enough to get me super excited to listen to his stuff.
Liz Phair
2/5
*I am certainly not the intended audience for this album but the crass lyrics and in your face vocals don't do much for me.
*The guitar tone is so 90s, it felt like I was sitting in Central Perk
*The album had some good moments but reallllllly dragged by the end.
Missy Elliott
5/5
*This album has great cohesion with its message of using hip hop to elevate people instead of resorting to violence and honor past hip hop heroes who have passed away. She also does an amazing job of using her status and creativity to empower women with her message.
*The cameos are crazy- Jay-Z, Method Man, Beyonce, etc. and the sound is such a dynamic and unique hip hop sound.
4/5
*Several all time hits to start the album but it trails off a little as it goes along
Public Image Ltd.
4/5
*This grew on me as the album went on.
*Great guitar tone and very pointed lyrics...I could see how its reputation improved over time
*Cool album art with the magazine cover theme

3/5
*Very Avant-garde and out there, but has some cool musical and unique elements to each song
*Interesting to listen to but I probably won't revisit it
Dire Straits
4/5
*Solid album- loved the guitars
*Didn't realize Dire Straits started out sounding like this and less like Money for Nothing
Linkin Park
5/5
*I have tons of nostalgia for this record- but it is one of the best examples of the nu-metal/rap rock genre.
*Has so many great hits and it brought validity to the genre by crossing over into popular radio at the time.
Milton Nascimento
3/5
*I never would have listened to this if I wasn't doing this project
*It was cool to hear Brazilian music, but nothing blew me away....solid musicianship though
Jane Weaver
3/5
*Cool and unique to listen to, but nothing that really interested me after this first listen
Fela Kuti
4/5
*Very cool jazz with African drum beats...kind of fusion-ish at times
*Even more impressive is that it's live
The Who
3/5
*The Kids are Alright and My Generation are bangers but the rest of the album is just ok. Cool sound but nothing that moved the needle beyond that.
The Young Gods
3/5
*Interesting concept with the carnival music turning into the industrial sound.
*Glad I listened once but probably won't return again.
Tim Buckley
3/5
*Started out great with jazz rhythms and the vibraphone playing a huge part in the backing band
*As the album goes on it slows a little too much

4/5
The Saints
5/5
*Great punk sound
Neneh Cherry
4/5
*Solid R&B/Hip Hop album

4/5
*Solid rock/metal album with some bangers- Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters, etc.

4/5
*Great R&B album
*Living for the City is an awesome track
Emmylou Harris
4/5
*Fantastic classic country album
*Loved Boulder to Birmingham and Coat of Many Colors
Def Leppard
4/5
*Solid 80s rock/metal album but no specific track really stood out
Prince
3/5
*Love Housequake and Starfish and Coffee, but it can get feeling long at times.
Röyksopp
3/5
*Unique entry in a genre I do not like.
Hole
3/5
*Good alternative 90s album
*Definitely hear the Cobain influence- guitars are grungy at time and her vocals go hoarse at the end of a phrase/word
*Solid musically but it didn't overly wow me
Radiohead
3/5
*Musically relevant and creative- just not my thing
*I wish I could get more into this band but they just don't do much for me
System Of A Down
4/5
*One of the best bands from the Nu Metal era
*Awesome lyrics and rhythmic patterns
*Don't love the screaming vocals but the other singing is fantastic
Stan Getz
4/5
*Samba is not my favorite genre, but Getz's saxophone tone is so smooth and perfect for it
*I'd like a little variation from a jazz album and that's the only thing keeping it from a 5
Nine Inch Nails
3/5
*Don't love industrial music but it's interesting to listen to. I just would never choose to listen to this on my own. Not bad, just not for me.
Beck
3/5
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
4/5
*Started slow but the last 2/3 of the album was great jazz rock
*Impressive that it was live
Roxy Music
3/5
*The Eno keys are cool and the last few songs have nice jazzy parts
*The vocals aren't great and the vibes are kind of strange overall
Led Zeppelin
3/5
*Nice mix of rock and blues- just went a little to mellow with the blues at times.
Sebadoh
2/5
*Had some great moments but it was overall very scattered and lacked a focus
Sarah Vaughan
4/5
*Beautiful voice and a great live recording
*Not my favorite style of jazz or I would given this a 5
The Monkees
3/5
*Started out great and fun but then slowed down too much as the album went on.
The White Stripes
4/5
*Great rock album- gets a little weird and slow at times by the end.
*Seven Nation Army is an all timer
Kraftwerk
4/5
*Not my style but understand that its influential and has a high level of musicianship.
Dr. Dre
4/5
*Great hip-hop that changed the game in the early nineties
*It gets a little long and sounding a bit the same by the end
Metallica
3/5
*Master of Puppets is an all time song but the rest of the album was a little bit of a slog to get through.
*The guitar solos are excellent, but its often just mid-tempo rock chugging along in between the interesting parts.
Love
3/5
*Interesting rock sound with experimental parts.
*Revelation was a cool jazz exploration, but not enough to increase its score
Sabu
4/5
*Afro jazz album with lots of focus on drumming

Jack White
3/5
*The end of the album was stronger than the start- influences of the Beatles, jazz, etc.

Siouxsie And The Banshees
3/5
*Fine rock album that gets a little too out there by the end
Led Zeppelin
4/5
*Lots of great songs and a great classic rock album.
Björk
2/5
For someone who is not Icelandic at all, I love everything about Icelandic culture....save from the music (unless its David Freyr). This is ephemeral, incorporates interesting sounds, but is just not for me.
Little Richard
3/5
*Great rock and roll history, but a little too similar track by track to be truly compelling.
Method Man
4/5
*Solid hip hop record with lots of Wu-Tang cameos
Alanis Morissette
4/5
A near perfect 90s album.
Various Artists
4/5
*All time Christmas album. Would be a 5 if Phil Spector didn't turn out to be a monster.
The Doors
3/5
*This album sounded fine but if I want to listen to blues or the Doors, I'm picking a different album.
3/5
Cool psychedelic record
Carpenters

*Nice 70s singer songwriter/folk album
*The hits carry it, but still a solid record
Songhoy Blues
4/5
*Cool, unique blues sound
New Order
3/5
Ok New Wave...nothing offensive but nothing exciting
Weather Report
4/5
Birdland is a great groove to start the album. It slows a bit after that, but this is a great jazz fusion album.
The The
3/5
Interesting New Wave style record
Beatles
5/5
*Probably my favorite Beatles album
*Eleanor Rigby is a fantastic song
Morrissey
2/5
*It too often sounds like he's just talking over an odd guitar melody.
*Just doesn't resonate for me.
Lucinda Williams
3/5
*The title track is a great song, but that's definitely the highlight of the album.
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
Mrs. Robinson is a decent song but this album doesn't keep my attention. It's not bad but not amazing either.
Youssou N'Dour
3/5
*Glad to have heard this
*Had some interesting jazz components
Pink Floyd
3/5
*Interesting psychedelic rock
*I understand the significance but it's not enough to hook me into re-listening a lot
Dr. Octagon
3/5
*Underground hip-hop record, like the different sound to his cadence
*The skits are silly and take away from how good the songs are
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
Nice folk album, just not my preferred style of music.
The Sabres Of Paradise
2/5
Admittedly this is a genre that is a huge blind spot for me and I don't have a lot of nostalgia or connection with historically. I understand that this music is different and/or groundbreaking for house/electronica/trip hop, etc. but this type of music is not what I'm looking for when I put a song on.
Air
3/5
*Cool ephemeral music
The Who
4/5
*Incredible live performance

*Loved the last 2 tracks and how they built up
*Very unique sound- didn't overly excite me but I'm glad I listened.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
*Seminal alternative album for its time
*Nice mix of funk and rock- sometimes the album loses me a little
Daft Punk
3/5
*I didn't realize DaftPunk was this straight up house music at their start
*Obligatory 3 for house music- it's not painful to listen to, but I don't get enough variety to get to a 4 or 5 with how much each track repeats beats and words.
Stereo MC's
4/5
*Nice mix of rapping and house music to keep it more interesting than just a long dance album
*Loved the use of instrumentation mixed in
The War On Drugs
3/5
*Good ambient sound
*I can hear the Dylan/Springsteen influences
*I prefer music with a faster tempo
Serge Gainsbourg
2/5
*The topic doesn't exactly hold up well
*It has cool instrumental parts, but its often just the guy talking over it
*Probably would give it a 2.5 if that was possible.
D'Angelo
3/5
Decent R&B album
Ride
3/5
*Not a genre I like or listen to that much
*This was better than most shoegaze I've heard

*Classic rock sound

*School's out is a great song, but the album doesn't keep that momentum until the Grand Finale.
Parliament
4/5
*Great funk album!

*Very sampled and classic songs.
*Love the funk sound but it got a little repetitive sounding besides the hit songs
The Go-Go's
4/5
*Great New-wave/early punk record
*Blondie Parallel lines clearly set up a record like this to happen, but its hits are great.
3/5
*Cool and different sounding album
*At times gets a little too unique for its own good
N.E.R.D
3/5
*Ok hip-hop album
Run-D.M.C.
4/5
*The first half of this album is an all time hip hop record
*It slows a bit on the B side but still an influential album
Talvin Singh
2/5
*The lyrics sections had an eerie sound
*Musical but nothing that hooked me
Lightning Bolt
2/5
*At times noise, at times it hit a groove, and at times it was just confusing
*I like avant-garde and non-mainstream stuff but this would take some time for me to really get into. That being said, there were a few times where I found the method in the madness, which was rewarding.
Dennis Wilson
2/5
*Had some moments that sounded like the Beach Boys but overly fell flat for me
Kanye West
2/5
*A few great songs with otherwise bloated content, much of which is clearly for shock value from an all time terrible human
Tom Waits
2/5
*Some of the alternative blues with the raspy voice is good
*Overall I have never liked Waits' vocals and this does not help
*At times if feels like an attempt to do a Trout Mask Replica type album, but its not even close to that level of interesting music

Blondie
5/5
*Great pre-punk/pop album

*Solid garage rock/proto-grunge
*I would definitely liked grunge more if it had more of this edge
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
*Some great songs but it loses steam at times
Massive Attack
3/5
*Another dance album with cool samples that I don't hate, I just don't love the genre
Peter Gabriel
3/5
*Solsbury Hill is a great song
*The album is well done musically, but a little all over the place with the different genres

*Great alternative album...made me realize I need to listen to more R.E.M.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
*Great early CCR album
*Proud Mary is a classic
*I prefer Cosmo's Factory
David Bowie
2/5
*Not a huge Bowie fan and this didn't do anything to change my mind.
Morrissey
3/5
*I don't love Morrissey and his lyrics but this album cuts straight down the middle for me- nothing amazing but nothing bad
Afrika Bambaataa

*Great funk/jazz/fusion album!
Can
3/5
*Unique album with a cool feel to it
Talk Talk
3/5
*Slow paced rock album
*Not bad but also not too exciting
Lambchop
2/5
*Very slow and thought it was building to something bigger than it got to. The Butcher Boy was a nice crescendo to the tracks, but not enough for me to return to this.
Kanye West
2/5
*Such a good hip hop album unfortunately from a brainwashed maniac
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Great album
Manic Street Preachers
3/5

*Very dense/interesting alt rock.

*Grandiose with incredible guitar and vocal work, but Queen is just not for me more often than not

3/5
*Spooky at times, but great late 60s record
Koffi Olomide
3/5
*I can appreciate the musicianship and positive vibes of this sound, but it doesn't have too much variation on album
Black Sabbath
4/5
*It's interesting how much heavy metal started out influence so much by blues rock. This would more likely be released by the Black Keys today as opposed to a metal band.
*Overall fantastic groundbreaking album
Elastica
3/5
*Cool alternative female fronted 90's band
*Like many 90s bands- can slip into generic sounding tracks as many sound similar
Nick Drake
5/5
*Amazing guitar playing
*Awesome dark feel to the album
*Brilliant musician who was gone too soon
Miles Davis
4/5

Earth, Wind & Fire
3/5
*Starts off with some great songs but slows down a little too much by the end
Femi Kuti
4/5
*Solid afrobeat saxophone jazz
The Kinks
3/5
*Pretty strong album but the Kinks have several better albums.
Supertramp
4/5
*Supertramp has such a unique and cool sound, but I like Breakfast in America a little more
Count Basie & His Orchestra
4/5
*Incredible big band sound in Basie's late stages
*I still prefer quartet, quintet, etc. jazz from the 50s on over this
The Specials
4/5
*Great 2 tone record
*A little too alt for me to give a 5
Iggy Pop
4/5
*Great rock-pop album
The Doors
4/5
*Love they keyboards and the hit songs are incredible
*Gets a little too proggy at times
Beatles
4/5
*Great rock album of the time
*I wish I could hear this without already having heard Revolver, because this does not seem nearly as good after knowing what is to come
Duke Ellington
4/5
*I prefer quartet/quintet style jazz of eras a little later than this, but this live performance is about as good as big band can get.
Fleet Foxes
4/5
*Solid modern mix of American/British folk
Rage Against The Machine
4/5
*Incredible album, especially for 1992. Love the political messaging and guitar work.
*A few tracks go a little long and its tough to pick which album is their actual best....they are all so good!
Dusty Springfield
3/5
*Great recording and set list, just not my favorite type of music.
*I probably have recency bias too but I'd prefer Adele or Amy Winehouse to this.
Nirvana
3/5
*No doubt that this was an important recording/concert in music history.
*I don't overly love acoustic versions of rock songs, but Kurt's performance is fantastic.
