Great album and a true classic! Loved it since I was fourteen. It shaped me then - and it still hits hard.
A very lovely album, great instrumentals. Sets the mood fantastically - even in the deepest darkest winter I was able to feel like it's a sunny summer's day. Such a carefree, happy mood. However, reggae is not really my jam and while I really love to hear an occasional song, listening to the whole album all at once felt like it lasts and lasts for too long as the songs are so similar to each other. I'd rate it 4 stars for musicality, lightness and freshness it packs if I was more unbiased by my own tastes, but for my very personal enjoyment it's more like 3 stars. Still a fun and lovely listen!
A true classic. A very cohesive, moody album that is very rewarding to listen. It's been a long time since I listened to a Radiohead album from start to finish - I used to, but eventually I just picked the songs I like the most. In this case, there are so many great ones for me - The Wolf at the Door, There There, We Suck Young Blood, 2+2=5... I'm absolutely glad I revisited Hail to the Thief in all its melancholic glory.
Not something I would put myself on voluntarily as it's not really my thing, but it's a fun and easy listen. Funk is inherently a fun and instrumentals-focused genre, and I had fun and I enjoyed the instrumental parts.
Oh my, I'm so happy to get this here! One of my favourite albums, and among Metallica's greatest - and they have lots of great albums. Love every minute of it. True classic.
It's actually a very fun album to listen to!
Oh wow, this is amazing! Such a fun album. So glad this came up and I was able to listen to it and to fall in love with it.
Oh my, I used to listen to this album so much at school! A very cozy album for me, lots of great memories. To me Dire Straits is quintessential background music - but I mean it in the best way as it just fits, just like an old cozy sweater.
Was actually quite good. Unfortunately, I was busy the whole day and couldn't give it the most proper attention and just had it on background while doing other things, so I can't comment on lyrics or anything in particular, but sonically it felt like a good punk album. Might take a closer listen again later.
Oh my, my second favourite PJ Harvey's album!!! (My biggest favourite is To Bring You My Love and my third favourite is Uh Huh Her, both unfortunately NOT in this list. Shame, shame, shame. My biggest reccomendations to listen to these too if you liked this one!)
Honestly, I think this is probably her best album. It all sounds so fresh, so cohesive and never boring. Every song is superb. Storytelling is great. I just love this album so much and for so long.
Oh boy. I mean, I get it. The whole premise is very ambitious and kinda brilliant. But the execution is subpar, and the outcome is this very bloated almost three hour ordeal with the most annoying music, infuriating production and unfinished songs sung by people who can't really sing.
I guess it's not unexpected that I found the whole thing very grating on my nerves.
I mean, alright, some tunes were kinda cute and some lyrics were kinda funny, but those cute and fun parts just drown in the sea of the most annoying music I have listened to lately.
Had it been shorter, I would have given this 2 stars. Maybe even 3 for those rare flashes of brilliance and humour. But the whole album felt like 2 hours and 45 minutes of torture to me. My first 1 star rating.
Actually quite good. At some point I forgot that I'm specifically listening to the album and just vibed with it.
Interesting album, important messages. Lots of collaborators. I liked the slightly jazzy beat. Alright, Momma and The Blacker the Berry were standouts for me. Mortal Man in the end really ties the album together.
There are hits here. Overall a very fine music with the ability to summon chill vibes and the heat of summer to your home.
Ohhh, that's a great classic album! Love it
I do enjoy post punk, and I did enjoy this album, too.
It's alright, not the best reggae I ever heard, but sounds nice enough to listen to.
A fun and fresh listen! They sound something like The Rolling Stones meets Kiss, and also I can hear how influential The Dolls should have been to the whole post punk scene. I found the album enjoyable.
You can say it's overplayed, you can say it's overrated, but it's such a good album - and it did not get old!
A classic that started so much. I don't personally enjoy this too much but I really respect it.
I actually have a thing for 60s classic rock. I thoroughly enjoyed this, and the final 20 minutes song that was full of guitar, drums and even sax solos was a blast.
Haven't listened to drum and bass for quite a while, and that's a good album. Quite nice as background music!
Very nice to listen to and instantly danceable - it's fun! And it's also very well made instrumentally, too.
A perfectly listenable rock album, and I do love rock music, so I cannot give it less than 3 stars - and yet, it's such a generic rock album I cannot give it more than 3 stars. I liked the songs where they tried to sound like Nirvana and disliked the more mellow, ballad-like songs of theirs. Get Free was the standout of the album for me, apparently it is the biggest hit from Highly Evolved, and I'm not surprised. Overall - really not bad, at times even good, but I won't be seeking for more.
I really liked it musically and lyrically, but could not connect with the vocals. Maybe I would need more time with this album.
I absolutely love this album!
I quite like the old school rock. Good instrumentals!
Oh, I have listened to this a lot back at school - on a CD! A really good album, and to me - quite a nostalgic one. It was such a pleasure to listen to it all from front to back again. A really strong poprock album.
Quite a fun and enjoyable listen!
A very good album! Of course I knew and love quite a bunch of songs from it before, it was fun to listen to it whole from start to finish. I think I'd happily dive into The Smiths deeper as I enjoy their kind of melancholy rock.
A fantastic live album by a fantastic classic / hard rock band. Absolutely magical experience, and probably my favourite version of Child in Time here.
One of my favourite Led Zeppelin albums! Fantastic band, spectacular music. I'm very looking forward to seeing more their albums here:)
It was fun to listen to. Elvis had a lovely voice and sung well, and was charismatic. Not something I would put on and on again, but a nice change of pace.
It's a fresh and fun listen, and I enjoyed it! Gets a bit samey through the course of the album, but is still good.
I really connected with the soft, soothing Beth Orton's voice and her mellow melodies. I will want to come back to this, for sure.
Such a fun album! We both really enjoyed this one, Tina has a really great voice and know how to use it, and the music itself is very easy and fun to listen. I see why she was / is so popular for so many years!
A melancholic and mellow album, a good one.
I enjoyed it. Each time I listen to some old country I get surprised how much I actually do enjoy it. Who knew. I guess the acoustic instrumentations, rock-adjacent sound and storytelling do it for me.
A fine album with very evocative lyrics. Great to just sit and listen on the bus, like I did.
A folk-punk album? Well, this is fun!
It's a calm listen. Joni is a very evocative lyricist, but the music itself is on the bland side, so you really have to listen to see its beauty. Needs some relistening to appreciate fully.
It's not something I enjoy, but it's something I can appreciate.
It's quite a good post punk album, might listen to it more later
It's definitely not bad, but not something I sincerely enjoy and it felt a bit samey to me. I liked the energy though! I think with the right mood this could be great.
This sounds like great music for retirement home parties.
It's quite a nice indie rock album!
I love PJ Harvey and I like this album as a whole and I adore some of its parts (the title song is phenomenal! I love Dry!), and it's a great listen, but it's not my favourite PJ's album in her discography. (My favourites are To bring you my love, Uh huh her and Stories...) I'll give it a very strong four! It's a good one.
Okay! This is very hard to evaluate, because what do I evaluate here? Is the album interesting and listening to it felt educational and different? Well, yes. Did I enjoy the listening experience, did I like it, was it a rewarding experience, will I want to listen to this again? Well, no. However, I DID laugh at some tracks, and it often felt that the album/musicians are laughing at me, the listener, too, and that was quite an experience. This album feels like it's both pretentious as fuck, silly as fuck and was probably a total blast to create and record and like musicians really had fun. How do you even rate something that feels like one and five stars at once? Let's give it two for my sheer displeasure, but keep in mind that I still think it's worthy to be in this list. Go figure.
I did like it, a very soothing, calming album, beautiful voice, lovely piano. Listened to it twice. Loved the duet with Antony, too.
My inner hipster has tried to find excuses why shouldn't I give 5 stars to this pop album that has been airing everywhere for a decade, but honestly, it's a very good album and a very lovely listen. To hell with pretentiousness and French cuisine, who doesn't love a damn good burger, or, more likely in this case, damn good fish & chips? For sure I do. A damn good pop album and such a beautiful voice.
This is an interesting album by ABBA - I usually only know the hits, and this is an album without them, but it's still very good. I liked "I let the music speak" the most.
I'm always excited for a concept album! However, this time I did not enjoy it that immensely as the lyrics and music could have been more interesting, but still it was an enjoyable listen, cannot say anything bad.
Well, there's nothing wrong but I just did not like it that much.
I remember listening a lot to this album when it came out. I still like it a lot. My favourite song is My Body Is A Cage. A fantastic song.
Quite a nice listen. Did not love it, but did enjoy it quite a lot, a well made album. 3,5 stars, it was hard to decide to round it down or up.
Not exactly my thing, but it's a good and interesting thing.
There is something about hard rock and heavy metal music that just makes me feel at home each time I listen to it. There is no way I could give less than 4 stars for this. Been contemplating 5, too, but decided I just don't love ZZ Top as much as I do Maiden, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow or Led Zeppelin. But do I enjoy them and this album? Hell yeah I do.
Not something I would choose to listen myself, but it went really good on a peaceful Saturday afternoon.
A breath of fresh air in this project! Glad to hear some more metal here, and Ministry's impact is definitely huge.
A really good album. Will definitely come back to it.
This album is both brilliant and both slightly grating on my nerves at once - but I enjoyed listening to it nevertheless!
I liked it, for a while I even forgot that I was listening to a new album - it felt just as familiar as my usual classic rock:)
Oh, one of my beloved ones! An absolutely fantastic album.
I was really excited at the start of this record but my excitement waned a bit by the end of it. It's an alright album nonetheless!
I knew I enjoyed Ella and most of the classic vocal jazz somewhat, but I was naturally worried if I'll have what it takes to sit through this 3 hour behemoth of the album. Surprisingly, there was nothing to worry about - I loved every minute of it, and also tidied up my room and finished knitting a cowl, all while gently smiling. Wow!
Soul and r'n'b are not my favourite styles so it's hard to evaluate for me, but his voice is truly buttery smooth!
Very nice as a background music.
This was actually refreshingly fun. A different album, a genre fusion, a fresh take. Maybe not something I'll want to revisit, but I'm really glad I got to hear it.
I enjoyed it, truly a lively album.
I like all hard rock, so naturally I enjoyed this too, but as an album that you "should hear before you die" this felt rather bland.
As background music it's quite alright, but for normal listening I found it very annoying.
I knew this band from before - but having only listened to the hits I was of impression that it's just another poprock / easy altrock band. However, after listening to this album twice in a row I am completely impressed! Apparently, they do rock hard and they hit hard, too. Great album. So glad it came up here.
A very nice lullaby-ish album.
Objectively I should probably not give this album more than 4 stars, but there's nothing objective about my 2000s nostalgia and my childhood love for Britney. And this is a truly fun pop album, isn't it? You can't be serious all the time, you need some fun, and Britney provides it perfectly.
Another album from my school years! I listened to it quite a lot back then, but I still haven't memorized all the songs apart from the obvious hits and a couple of non-hit favourites (like dreamy and atmospheric Catching the Butterfly) - it just blends into one slightly melancholic, slightly breezy, slightly bittersweet (ha!) gust of wind in my mind. Lovely album, lovely memories.
This is a fantastic album, and one of the very rare instances where my mom showed an album to me, and we both listened and fell in love with this melancholic beauty, so this adds an additional layer to my love for You Want it Darker. I love how soothing Cohen's voice is, and his lyrics are always interesting and worth looking into. Such a great farewell album.
It sounds like parents' music to me. I feel like I, as a full on adult, am not mature enough to like this.
Maybe that's not my style, and maybe I enjoy a bit deeper lyrics and these felt seriously lacking, but that was actually quite fun to listen to. Very danceable. The instruments sound great. Loved the bass especially. 3,5 stars, rounding upwards because it was FUN.
I have a lot of respect and love for Beastie Boys. I've listened to them a ton at my teens, and it's always a blast to hear them again. Very cool, very innovative, and still feels fresh - even after all those years.
A true classic, a joy to my ears.
The title track alone is a fucking masterpiece and is worth 5 stars on the spot. The rest of the album isn't - despite being very imaginative and influential. I have listened to Maggot Brain - both a song and an album - a lot prior to this, and I always come to this conclusion. Therefore let's give it 4 stars.
If I had to describe this style, I'd say it's 90s Eurodance meets 2010s indie rock. However, I did enjoy this quite a lot! And the acoustic versions in the end were also quite a treat.
A really, really, really good album. Melancholic and beautiful.
Ehh, this is not my kind of music but still I have listened to drum and bass that I liked more than this. Feels very of its time and not very interesting.
This was very refreshing and interesting to listen to. The instruments and the musicality were really interesting, and the album was a lot of fun, too. It's great to be able to hear music from all over the world that I wouldn't have thought to check out myself, and that's the beauty of this project.
