an ok album but not for me, wouldn’t listen to it all again

Some classics.

I’m finding I really don’t like Rod Stewart’s voice. This is my second album of his and it’s like nails on a chalk board to me. “Maggie May” is tolerable.

I have always liked Maggie may, but aside from that pretty boring in my opinion :/

It was fine. Not terrible, but not particularly enjoyable.

oké, niet zo wauw. stem stoorde me soms wat

Alright

Naja. Hat mich anscheinend nicht genervt. Also passts.

Not really feeling it

I do not like Rod Stewart’s voice

A step too far for me. Rod Stewart is fine I guess.

I guess it's early rock and country blend. It's got maggie may. Inoffensive. Every song... doesn't tell a story. Little distracted by heavy machinery outside. I'm losing you is a jam, dig the honky tonk piano

Tylsä ja mitäänsanomaton levy laulajalta jonka äänestä en erityisemmin välitä.

I didn't think this project would lead me to hating Rod Stewart. I always thought of him as the Maggie May and Handbags and Gladrags guy, nothing special, but perfectly serviceable. This is my second album of his in a few weeks though and both of them have been bad. Every Picture Tells a Story isn't as shit as Gasoline Alley, but it's still really poor.

Incredibly boring and uninspiring roots rock. I hated "Gasoline Alley", so I hoped for this album to be an improvement. Turns out is the same crap. Maybe better produced, but still incredibly tame and without substance. Actually, from what I can remember, "Gasoline Alley" at least had more folk moments, while in this projects all the songs are incredibly similar: bland guitar riffs and solos, piano melodies and singing, with nothing interesting to say. I can't digest this album, it is painfully mediocre.

4/10 - I'm all for a raspy singer. But I just did not like Rod's voice on this project :( If I was at a concert with a mob of fans and someone had this voice, I'd live it up. But I'm at my desk with a donut... Fav Tracks: Maggie May Heard before? ---–- ❌ Saved a Song? ----- ✅ Saved Album? --–-- ❌ Will Listen Again? -- ❌ Album Cover ------- hairgel rod. Hair. Gel.

my first time indulging in a bit of rod stewart and my final verdict is … m m m m mid

Not my cup of tea

Se me ocurren pocas cosas más genéricas, insulsas y aburridas que esta mierdita.

Rod, in all of his various forms, is a sack of crap. This record was an early instance of when people bought records on the advice of critics because if they had heard this shit before they would not have bought it. Worse, those who actually purchased this record lied to people telling them this is fucking great so they would not be the only ones stupid enough to buy it. How do you know a record is not good? Shortly after it is released it fades from memory. Show me anyone today who would say this Rod Fucking Stewart is the greatest ever, and I’ll show you an idiot. This is terrible. I listened to the entire thing and it is the first time I have truly regretted that I committed to completing each record each day. Regret is a terrible feeling and this is a terrible fucking record. Maggie May is a terrible song. This is unimaginative music. Somehow Rods vocals do not make it better. At least it’s not Do Ta Think I’m Sexy bad, but it’s bad. Avoid at all costs. 1/5

Oh I'm going to have an attitude about this. I didn't sleep, I'm cranky and I've never liked 'Maggie May' - it's just so blechhhhh. Never liked '(Find A) Reason to Believe' either. Normally I give albums multiple plays before I settle on a rating, and maybe it's just the massive attitude I woke up with today, but I don't wanna'. I don't like Rod Stewart and 1.5 plays of this album have not changed my mind. It's an interesting album and maybe I'd like it if I hadn't heard other artists do everything Stewart is doing but better. Also the casual racism and misogyny are ... not helping. I'd like to give him a fair shot but ... see: attitude.

well even if one were to ignore that rod stewart is a racist tory bastard, which one should not, he also has a voice that sounds like RFK Jr with how strained it is. it is physically upsetting to hear his voice. truly a sensory nightmare. some people have a voice fit for miming and they just should not make music. even if i were to strain myself to put attention towards the rest of the production, it's simply not good. anyways again about the racism part which you shouldn't ignore, the title track includes some gross anti-asian racism. yuck. there is nothing redeemable about any of this.

Rod Stewart is tory scum and I hate his singing voice. I really don't get it, it just felt like a dull album made worse by a singing voice that actually kinda grates on me. It has the same effect as listening to fingernails scrape on a chalkboard, I can't focus on anything else and I viscerally do not like it.

Umm… more background music, even the radio hit is mostly forgettable, safe rock. Or pop with a rock edge but the edge is blunted for safety

Whew! Haven't had a real stinker of an album in a while. Thanks, Rod. The songs all feel formulaic. Like he wrote one line for each song and then repeated it until time was up. And then on top of that, you gotta listen to Rod Stewart's voice. Also: Listening to the whole album made me like Maggie May (which is a good song!) less. :(

I’ll stick a pitchfork in your eye

This was agonising. Rod Stewart seems cool but his music is utter wank

pretend to be of Scottish descent to MAYBE get into this album.

Not for me. 1/5

Margekjedelig. Et helvette å komme seg gjennom.

Amazing career spanning the decades. Not a fan of this album.

That Guy Grover Cleveland was right.

A story about nothing.

This is rubbish.

i loathe Rod Stewart. his cover of Downtown Train is among my least favorite commercially successful pieces of music. many of hits are complete dogshit and the ones that don't suck don't really do much for me either. Maggie May is not an interesting or compelling song. but other than the lattermost, this album is from a different period. Rod still has a thoroughly unpleasant voice, but these songs I can at least understand the appeal of. still sucks though. deserves to be one of the 1001? no but i can get why someone would defend it being here

Nope. Not necessary before death.

One star for Maggie May and a collection of sub standard b-sides

Would have been better as a picture rather than a piece of music, because both lyrically and compositionally, this sucks. I am quite sick at this point of mid-tempo piano-rock ballads. Turned this one off 2/3 of the way through the second track. No thanks.

1 star

I dislike this adamantly. It's just blues without the soul, infused with a cheap poppiness, yet still lacking any catchiness.

ifuckinghaterodstewartifuckinghaterodstewartifuckinghaterodstewartifuckinghaterodstewartifuckinghaterodstewartifuckinghaterodstewart

a bore

Nah, mate.

Meh. I'm not a big fan. A few were good, but overall, it's lackluster.

This shit boring

good thing no one was around when i listened to this because it meant no one heard when i blurted out "oh, shut the fuck up" when he started singing Amazing Grace

Loll this is violently American 😂

Aside from Maggie May, which is a good tune for a merry sing along, I struggled to muster any kind of enthusiasm for the rest of the album. Even the artwork is beige.

Boring, short, sexist, racist. Some folky bits I liked but probably done better by other artists

I didn’t really like anything on this album.

It's the 70s. An erratic barnet atop matchsticks limbers on stage. It proceeds to plough through 40s and 50s material which I fail to recognise. Whose song is this? I ask. The barnet's, answers a helpful sidekick. I remain confused until the familiar lyrics of That's All Right greet us. I get it! I exclaim. The barnet's a tribute act, but it decided to branch out and create original tunes, with no rhyme nor reason. Chuffed, I bin the gig.

never listened to him before so initial shock 1: ok 70s not bad, lots of beats 4/10 2: repetitive 5/10 3:too country 4:forgot to rate it in the moment 5:not really into the album so 6:huh 7:huh 8:i like the intro - EORNG SONG done

Absolutely horrible and i'll never trust anyone who likes this.

Wish it would've ended sooner

Not now, rod, I'm busy

Parece ser um disco para celebrar o cantor. Só que não me agrada o vocal, de fato a voz incomoda bem na sequência das músicas.

Overrated artist

a fairly dull mix of easy listening pop country retirement home beats with extra raspy singing

Not a fan

Rod Stewart is awful, boomers.

A lot of the notes, specifically the bio about Rod Stewart on Spotify, says that he competes or rivals The Rolling Stones. Whoever wrote that is off their rocker. That take is absolutely nuts. He has nice vocals, but the Stones had much, much better songs than even the best song on this album. The album is fine, it doesn't feel particularly special. "Maggie May" is the obvious highlight of this album, but that really isn't saying much at all. Feels like a worse Joe Walsh, and that's an incredibly low bar. The instrumentation on this album is well done, but it's nothing exciting. In conclusion, this is just another boring 70s album on this list.

Songs needlessly long and really hasn't aged well thematicly. Not a fan

It was so boring and generic. Thank you.

Better than bon Jovi 1

I couldn't get with this album. Music was the only good thing and that's being generous.

Surprising amount of country influence. Still Rod Stewart, though.

Horrible album by a horrible individual.

Not really a fan.

bruh this shit sucks

There is maybe no artist I hate more than Rod Steward. Maybe Phil Collins. It lacks both emotions and creativity. And then it's his voice. This man should really clear his throat before singing.

Tried to listen to more than a few songs and couldn't. I just really don't care for this style of music.

Very poor - overlong songs which don’t go anywhere

No thank you

boring.

Just terrible, amd its probably his best

Cannot deal with it. Definitely not for me.

With 1 exception: boringly boring

I cannot express the boredom this album gave me. Plus the drummer is shit

Aburridoooooo!!
