Devil Without A Cause
Kid RockI can't believe I just made myself listen to 70 minutes of Kid Rock.
I can't believe I just made myself listen to 70 minutes of Kid Rock.
I don't listen to Zappa that much, but when I do it's usually Hot Rats. Zappa's discography is like the Cheesecake Factory menu. There are so many options to pick from, yet you know damn well you're going to pick the same thing you're used to having. That's what Hot Rats is for me. Incredibly fun to listen to and masterfully performed.
These are the kind of records I expect to see on this list. Classic in every sense of the word. An undoubtedly important and influential piece of music. However, this seems like a "you had to be there" kind of thing. Seeing him perform during that era was probably insane. It's definitely a product of it's time, so it's not really something I enjoy listening to. It's good, fun music, though. Just not my vibe.
That was fucking awesome. I love the intensity and the drums sound great! I typically learn towards fast-paced music, so this is right up my alley. This is basically the hardcore punk of jazz music.
Ace of Spades is really the only noteworthy track here. Everything else pales in comparison. Decent album that was very influencial, but honestly it all sounds the same to me.
Deep Purple is one of those artists that I have always heard of, but never checked out. Aside from "Smoke on the Water", I had never even heard another Deep Purple song before. Once I finished Machine Head, I now understood the praise and recognition this band gets. Simply put, it rocks! It's not as generic as I was expecting it to be. While not a fair assumption to make, I tend to find most classic rock pretty tame. Deep Purple didn't merely meet my expectations, but they exceeded them!
As soon as I saw the album art and the title of this record, I knew I was in for the opposite of a treat. I don't care for this kind of music at all, but I approached it with an open mind. To be fair, it's not that bad for what it is. If you're into the old country/western style, this is definitely for you. Personally, I can't stand it, but I can appreciate the musicianship.
I don't listen to Zappa that much, but when I do it's usually Hot Rats. Zappa's discography is like the Cheesecake Factory menu. There are so many options to pick from, yet you know damn well you're going to pick the same thing you're used to having. That's what Hot Rats is for me. I've only heard a few Cat Stevens songs before, but I didn't know they were Cat Stevens songs until listening to this record. I enjoyed moments of this album, but as a whole it's quite a snore-fest. Nothing against Cat Stevens' talent, as he's a wonderful songwriter; It's just not for me.
I've heard a couple songs on this album before, but I wasn't too familiar with Fugees in general. Hell, to be honest, I only knew of these artists as individuals. I had no idea this was even a group. Regardless, I found it mostly enjoyable. Aside from the hit singles, there are some really nice hip-hop tracks on here. It flows well as an album, too. I find skits enjoyable on a first listen, but after that it's just something to skip.
Without a doubt one of the greatest hip-hop records ever made. I've heard this many times and it never gets old. I don't even know what else to say, honestly.
I'm not too familiar with Joni Mitchell's music, so I wasn't sure what to expect going into this. To be honest, I didn't find myself enjoying it all that much. There are some really nice moments throughout, but as a whole I don't care for it. I could see something like this growing on me over time, but right now I feel a bit indifferent towards it.
I learned something about myself today. I didn't realize how much I liked The Who until hearing this record. The influence this had on rock music is as clear as day. I wasn't even alive when this record came out, but I imagine this being a pretty heavy album for it's time. I can definitely appreciate that as a fan of heavier music. I enjoyed it, but it's not perfect.
I was in middle school when this album dropped. I was a pretty big fan of Green Day at the time. I had the "International Superhits!" compilation album from 2001 in my rotation quite often. I was also familiar with Dookie, which is easily one of their best records. Despite being a fan, I didn't care for the "American Idiot" single when it came out. I'm not sure why, but Green Day just wasn't the same from this point on. It's not a bad record by any means, but it just never resonated with me. However, I've grown to appreciate this record after hearing it again. If any band was to create a pop-punk rock opera, it should absolutely be Green Day. While I do appreciate the ambition here, it does get a bit boring and drawn out by the time you finish. The stand out tracks really save this album, though.
I have mixed feelings about Beastie Boys, because I find them both enjoyable and annoying at the same time. What I enjoy the most is the production value. The vocals can sometimes get irritating, but it's part of what separates them from the rest. The combination of energetic vocals, rock samples, and punk ethos all blend together in a perfect way that only the Beastie Boys could accomplish. Strangely, I found myself enjoying the deep cuts more than the hit singles. Not sure if that's due to hearing them so much, but they are some of the weaker tracks for me. Overall, it's mostly enjoyable, but a little goes a long way.
Perhaps a bit dated compared to today's standards, but it's certainly ahead of it's time. I would have never guessed this album was 45+ years old. This is essentially just one long song (or two, really) separated into 6 tracks. It feels very much like a sci-fi movie soundtrack, which I like. An undoubtedly influential piece of music. I'll be revisiting this one!
This was my first time hearing a Madonna project on purpose. I've never been a huge pop fan, but as always, I went into this album open minded. I did recognize a couple songs, which I actually enjoyed. There's a reason she's so successful and this album proves that. While I didn't care for a majority of these tracks, they were still solid pop songs. I just don't really care for this type of music. I liked it more than I was expecting, though.
I've heard the hits before, but honestly had no idea who played them (this is becoming a regular thing now). This is why I love the 1001 Albums Generator. It gives me context for all the tracks I have heard in the past, but never knew who the artist was. I feel like I should have discovered this record a long time ago. I mean look at this album cover. I don't really see myself listening to this kind of stuff on the regular. It's a bit dated and cheesy, although that's also why it's fun. This is music you want to hear live or at a party. Alone on a computer isn't exactly the best way to appreciate this album, but I dig it.
I don't really care for reggae, even if it is the great Bob Marley. It's nice to listen to on certain occasions, but I never find myself in the mood for it. It's a bit boring and repetitive for me. The songs are a bit too similar sounding. I found myself tuning it out half the time, so it's hard to focus on and appreciate. While it's not a bad record, I don't see myself returning to this anytime soon.
I remember downloading this album a long time ago and checking it out. I deleted it from my computer shortly after. Regardless, I decided to go into this with a fresh outlook. Who knows, maybe I'd like it more now. Well, that turned out to be exactly true. This is much better than I remember it being. There are some hit or miss areas, but I admire the diversity of sounds and meshing of genres. Despite that, it still maintains a cohesive sound. This is definitely a record that will grow on me over time., as proven already.
I've heard a few Rod Stewart songs before, but never really got into his music. The old blues/classic rock ballads are dated, uninteresting, and quite frankly do nothing for me. While the music is nice and performed well, it's just a bit boring for my taste.
I'm very happy this album popped up, as it is already one of my favorite albums of all-time. It may be popular/over-rated in music circles on the internet, but I don't care about that. It's such an interesting, beautiful album with immense atmosphere. It captivates me like no other record has before, and that's just with samples and drums. Definitely has high replay value and is very memorable.
While familiar with Simon & Garfunkel as a group, I have never listened to Paul's solo stuff. I wasn't quite sure what to expect after reading a little bit about the making of this record, but it did make me a bit more curious about it. I found myself wanting to like this album more than I actually did. It's a bit cheesy at times, like Disney soundtrack cheesy. Even though I appreciate this album, it irritates the shit out of me for being so damn happy.
Honestly, I much prefer "Are You Experienced" over this album. It's a bit too bluesy for my taste, however the stand-out tracks are essential listens. This album did not resonate with me as much I was hoping/expecting. Good record, but ultimately disappointing given how much I enjoyed his debut.
Like many others, I am familiar with Lovefool and that's about it. Not really a song I ever listen to on purpose, but it's one of those singles that's impossible to avoid. Everyone has heard it at one point in their life. As far as the rest of the album goes, I thought it was alright. Unique voice, often catchy pop tunes. Would not be surprised if this influenced No Doubt's early sound. Deserves more credit than just a one-hit wonder band. The "Iron Man" cover was surprisingly good.
I had absolutely no idea what to expect going into this one. It's always refreshing to get an album that is completely new to you. Anyway, I thought this album was decent. Started out interesting enough, although it gets a bit boring by the end. I kind of dig stuff like this from time to time. Nothing particularly stands out, though. It does have a nice flow and stays consistent. Would you like some sweets, Willy? out of 10.
I can't be the only person who said, "What the fuck is this?" when it popped up. I was disappointed that it was not on Spotify, so I had to listen to music on YouTube (yuck). It's not the best quality, but I am committed to not skipping any albums on this list. Anyway, first impressions... it kinda slaps, but I find it very irritating at times. The tracks are way too long. It starts off pretty fun, but the charm wears off very quickly. There are some enjoyable moments during these songs, but it's not enough to save this album as a whole. Not much else to say really, it speaks for itself. I have zero familiarity with this type of music anyway, so my opinion doesn't carry a lot of weight. Also, the "Imagine" cover is not that bad.
Anybody who grew up in the 90's remembers hearing the hit singles on the radio. This album is loaded with 'em. It's catchy and nostalgic for sure, but it's not something I would keep in rotation. Her voice borders on irritating most of the time. The deeper cuts aren't that bad, just not interesting enough to pique my interest.
I didn't care for this the first time I heard it, but it was early in the morning during a rowdy hangover. You gotta be in a right mood to listen to a record like this, so I gave it another chance later on. It's one of the most unique pop albums I have ever heard. It's hard to really call it a pop album, because it's much more than that. There are a variety of different genres and styles at work here and Prince knows exactly how to fuse them. It's not something I could listen to all the time, though. Not only because it's a double-album (albeit a short one), but there's just a certain mood you got to be in for this to click. Also, a little Prince for me goes a long way.
My gym teacher in high school would play "Hot for Teacher" every single damn day when we ran laps (Mind you, this was during the 2000's, not the 80's). Yeah, so that's the one memory I have with this band. Naturally, I grew to despise the song, but it's been long enough for me to let that go. 1984 is full of dad-rock cheese, but there's plenty of badass guitar shredding (and drumming) in here to make up for it. While not something I tend to listen to, it's not that bad. It's just average classic rock to me.
I know very little about R.E.M. aside from a few hit singles. I think this record could grow on me over time, but right now it's not standing out too much. There are a handful of tracks I really enjoy, though. I can definitely hear the influence this had on early alternative rock.
Another one of those "you've heard of them, but never listened to them" artists. Obviously familiar with "Rock Lobster", such a fun song. I did not realize that track is nearly 7 minutes long. As far as the album goes, it's quirky and fun, however there's some serious musicianship happening! It's actually a pretty decent surf-rock/new wave album. Didn't love it, but it's alright.
This is basically a darker, more melancholic Bob Dylan. It's very poetic, definitely a lyric-focused record. You will get more out of this record if you pay attention to it, otherwise it will likely bore you. The guitar playing is great, too. I enjoyed the B-Side more than the A-Side.
I had no clue what this was going to be, but I was pleasantly surprised. That's always the best case scenario when going through this generator. It's a short, but sweet record full of fun rock/pop tunes. I'm still not quite sure what "Mod" means, but I dig it! I'll definitely revisit this one.
I like the 80's vibe this has, but overall I don't really like this kind of music. I enjoyed the title track, though. I can see why people would like this, it's just not for me.
Kind of feels like a mixture of sounds that were being used at the time. It's very much your standard 60's rock album. Each member apparently sings/writes the music, so that's a fun fact to know. It's important to blend all of your influences in order to create something new. I've never heard of Moby Grape before, but they got some nice jams.
It's ambient music, so you definitely need to be in the mood for it. I actually own this album, but I never play it for that reason. I'm never in an ambient mood. I don't know. I want to like this more than I actually do. The first track is really good, though.
Very fitting for today (Christmas Eve), I guess it's done that way on purpose. These are all the classic songs we've heard many times before. I don't really care for most Christmas songs, but these are produced and performed really well.
As with any double-album, this will take time to unpack and fully appreciate. The good news is I liked this on my first listen, so I could see this growing on me even more. Hard to decide between a 3 and a 4 on this one, but in this moment I lean towards a 3. Decent record with some enjoyable moments throughout.
KISS is one of those artist that almost everyone knows, not only for their iconic look, but also for their major hit singles. This is my first time ever listening to an entire album by KISS and now I understand why people call them a "singles" band. While there were a couple of decent tracks here, overall this thing is just so generic and bland. There were much more interesting things going on during the 70's that I would way rather listen to.
I had never heard of this group before, so I went into this blindly. I get why it's praised, but it's just not doing anything for me in the moment. I'm picky when it comes to folk music anyway.
I'm only somewhat familiar with The Fall. I've heard This Nation's Saving Grace a long time ago, but I already forgot what it sounded like. I know, that sounds crazy, but it didn't click with me at the time. This album, however, clicked almost instantly. I'm excited to return to this one. I like the punk-ish sound it has. There were some areas that lost me, but for the most part it's good!
Once again, I find myself in unfamiliar territory. I'm not a big fan of psych, unless it's more on the rock side. This is more folky than rock. I don't think it's bad, but it's not making an impression on me this time around.
I'm only somewhat familiar with The Kinks. I've heard some songs here and there, although nothing has really stood out enough to catch my attention. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case here as well. It's not bad, but compared to it's contemporaries it is a bit average.
I was really digging this for the first half of the record, but it really starts to drag after a while. Regardless, there are some really good songs on here that I will keep in rotation. I would rate this between 3 and 4, but rounding up to 4 because I would easily listen to it again.
This is about as average as it gets for me. Not bad, but nothing stands out. American Girl is pretty much the only stand-out track for me.
Another pleasant surprise! I really enjoyed this one. I had always heard the name Pet Shop Boys, but never knew what kind of music they played. I guess I'm a fan now!
An album I own and have heard many times. I haven't listened to it in a while, so it was good to hear it again. It's almost a 5-star for me, but not quite. It lacks variety and doesn't finish as strong as it starts.
I don't listen to much Funk/Soul, but there were some nice moments here. I especially liked "I Want to Take You Higher". Of course I had heard "Everyday People" before, but had no idea it was these guys until now. Shows what I know, but I thought it was decent despite not knowing much about the genre. An easy 3-star album for me.
Already one of my favorite electronic albums ever. It's truly one of a kind.
I've probably seen this album cover 100 times in my life, but I never had the urge to check this out. It wasn't really what I was expecting, but there were a couple of songs I enjoyed. It is definitely a product of it's time.
This was a very interesting, yet relaxing listen. This is definitely something I need to return to and soak in. A unique album full of good, soothing vibes.
I thought it was an interesting project, but nothing particularly stood out to me. There were some decent moments, but as a whole it did not click with me. Not bad enough to be a 2, so I will give it a 3.
I heard this pretty recently, so I don't even need to hear this to know how much I like it. Classic album, although I do prefer their self-titled debut more. Solid 4 for me.
I don't know much about Steely Dan, unfortunately. I downloaded Aja on my computer many years ago, but I have not heard it in a long time. Aside from that, I have not heard a Steely Dan project before. I dig the tunes here for the most part, they're nice. I'm not blown away or anything, but it is performed well.
I think I like the band name more than the music. It's pretty average 60's rock. Nothing remarkable, but it's got some decent little jams here and there.
Welp. This is it. My first 1-star rating. This album is just as interesting as it's name. Boring and not my style at all.
Another example of something I acknowledge is great and performed well, but is simply not my style. I can appreciate the talent here, though. Her voice is wonderful and the songs are pleasant.
OutKast's double-album is ambitious project that ultimately suffers from it's length. There are some certified classics on here, though. They are so good that they outshine the other songs on the album. If I had it my way, I'd cut out the filler from both albums and combine them into one.
This album made me feel like a little lad.
I've only heard Laughing Stock by these guys, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect here. I think I actually prefer this album. I have a thing for 80's music and this is right down my alley. Especially the song "Living in Another World", which is my favorite off this whole record. I will definitely listen to this one again.
That was fucking awesome. I love the intensity and the drums sound great! I typically learn towards fast-paced music, so this is right up my alley. This is basically the hardcore punk of jazz music.
I listened to this one not too long ago, although I didn't like it as much as other people do. It's a decent pop/rock record overall.
I don't care for The Doors all that much, but this is a solid album.
Considering I don't ever listen to glam rock, this is probably one of my favorites in the genre. Especially because of the punk sound they have. I look forward to checking out their other records.
I remember downloading this album on my computer many years ago. I have listened to it a couple of times, but it's been so long since I've heard it. It didn't leave much of an impression on me then. and unfortunately that's still the case now. I did enjoy some moments on this album, though.
Fantastic production, especially for an early 90's release. Starts off with some strong tracks and kind of mellows out after that. It's consistent, just not all too exciting.
I've never been a big Sonic Youth fan and this album continues to prove that point. I like certain moments of this album, I just don't find it all that memorable. I'm sure Sonic Youth will click for me at some point, but right now it's not doing too much for me.
Aside from the two major hit singles, this is actually pretty good. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. It's a pretty straight-forward album. Consistent as hell and quite fun to listen to. Not something I'd put on very often, but it's enjoyable.
More like Scott gets a 2.
I can't believe I just made myself listen to 70 minutes of Kid Rock.
This was quite boring, honestly. I didn't hate it, but I don't see myself ever listening to this again.
Look, I like Willie Nelson. He's a cool guy (I assume) and I want to like this, but I just don't care for it. There's some decent tunes here and there, I just can't get into anything country related...
This made me want to boot up my PS1 and play Need for Speed.
It's a bit too quirky for my taste. I do like some of the instrumentation here, however I find the vocals off-putting at times.
I listened to this one recently, so I don't even need to listen to it again to know how great it is. Such a wonderful album! Nothing I say would do it justice.
To be honest, I did not care for this. Does not deserve a 1 star, though.
I like some Bob Dylan from time to time, but I prefer to hear individual songs over entire albums. Although not my favorite Dylan record, it is certainly one of his best.
I like how it started and how it ended, but everything in the middle was pretty average.
I like the band name more than I do this album. I'm kind of on the fence with this one. Feeling too lazy to go into detail...
I don't consider myself a huge grunge fan, but this is pretty solid. Consistent record overall.
I actually recognized several of these songs from the radio. It's pretty good stuff, can't really complain. I loved that intro track, too!
Not really a huge Dylan fan, so I wasn't sure what to make of this. I liked a few moments of this album, it just didn't do much for me overall. I prefer his early work over this.
One of the few Van Morrison albums I enjoy. I definitely prefer this over Astral Weeks (which is widely regarded as one of this best). Almost 4 stars, but not quite.
The production was quite nice and the theme of the album was different than what I am used to hearing (in a good way). The music itself is a bit derivative, but she sings well and has a nice voice.
Yeah, not my thing at all. Tough to sit through.
Meh, kind of on the fence with this one. It had some interesting moments, but overall it is pretty underwhelming.
I really enjoyed "The Windmills of Your Mind" and nothing else ever came close. Great singer/voice, just didn't care for most of the songs.
I really liked his voice and the songs are impossible to dislike. Very solid album overall!
There's so charming about this record. Not this best, but pretty solid. Bowie can't miss!
One of my favorite 80's albums ever. So many great tracks on here. Funny, because I listened to this album again the day before this popped up.
Never heard this album before, but it was pretty decent. Not as good as "Forever Changes", but still good. I love this album cover, by the way.
Unfortunately, I had to listen to this on YouTube (due to his Spotify situation). Regardless, the album is actually quite nice. Better than I expected! Not a big folk guy in general, but I appreciate what he's done on here.
First time hearing this one and I'm glad I finally got the chance to check it out! Doesn't jump out at me as an immediate favorite of Bowie's, but I could see this growing on me. I will definitely come back to this one.
I've had this CD in my collection for a while now. It's not a favorite of mine, but it's a classic album everybody should hear at least once. Solid, consistent album overall. This is top-tier glam rock!
Ace of Spades is really the only noteworthy track here. Everything else pales in comparison. Decent album that was very influencial, but honestly it all sounds the same to me.
I recognized the name of these guys, but had no idea what their music sounded like until now. It was actually pretty decent. There were several moments that really caught my attention. I'll likely return to this one in the future. Good, but not great.
Most of us are familiar with the song "Two Weeks", which to me sounds like what you'd hear as soon as you step foot into Urban Outfitters. The rest of these songs, while nice, are pretty underwhelming. I can't get into it. I think it's just a bit too soft for my taste. I didn't hate it, though.
First time hearing this one. I've heard her follow up album, Post, which I actually prefer more than this. Debut was not quite as memorable, but maybe I need to give it time to sink in. There were moments I liked, I just didn't hear any standout tracks.
One of the few Radiohead albums that I don't have in my collection. No particular reason, just never ran across this one at the stores. It's a solid 90's alt-rock album. Some great songs, some not so great songs. Probably the most accessible Radiohead album. Solid 4 for me!
It was an interesting listen, but it failed to captivate me. I feel like this is really dependent on your mood. Not digging it this time around...
Not sure why this album is on the list. Pretty underwhelming and nothing too special about it. It wasn't awful, but it was very forgettable...
Anyone who knows me is aware of my irrational hatred of Adele. There's just something about her voice that irritates me. The music itself is bland, okay at best. Singing aside, the way her voice sounds just bothers me. It does not sound pleasant. Listening to this album wasn't too much of a challenge, as I'd heard almost half of these songs before. The others were just as boring. I hope this is the first and last time I have to hear an entire album by Adele.
Such a fun, yet relaxing listen. Not a single "bad" song, just some are better than others. I'd happily add this to my collection.
This one was pretty fun to listen to, although it did overstay it's welcome. Something like this could be reduced down to 30-40 minutes and be fine. 70+ minutes of this does not do much for me. I liked some parts of these songs, it just kind of all blends in after a while.
Such a classic, influential album. Not something I listen to regularly, but when I do I am impressed every time. Any fan of electronic music should listen to this!
The only worthwhile track here is "Take It Easy". The rest is very boring and forgettable. It's a bold move to start an album with one of your best songs. Doesn't quite deserve a 1, so a 2 is fitting.
I really liked the vibe this album had. Most of the songs were enjoyable and comforting. I don't hear music like this too often, so it was a nice change of pace. Not an instant favorite, but I liked some of it.
I never fully got into LCD Soundsystem, although I don't dislike them either. They have some solid tracks that I enjoy listening to. This album specifically has some of my favorite tracks by them. Hard to choose between a 3 and a 4, but I'll lean towards 4.
Insane that this is just bass guitar and drums. There were some cool ideas here, but the charm kinda wears off quick. It's not bad, it just seems very one-dimensional. Worth checking out, though!
Meh, I didn't care for this as much as some of his other albums. It's got a few decent songs, though. It's pretty much your average Neil Young record. Not too good, but not too bad.
This shit is way too cheesy for me to really enjoy. It's fun music, I just can't vibe with it as much as I want to. Listen to Stevie Wonder instead.
I don't have any strong feelings about this album either way. I felt more positive than negative about it, though. I'd probably give it another listen at some point. It's decent.
I've never been a huge fan of this album, but it's still something I don't mind listening to. I've heard it several times and it has never made a significant impact on me. I do agree that it deserves to be on this list, though.
Quite boring to be honest, although I didn't hate it. Even the hit single is cheesy and overplayed at this point, so there's really no need to ever hear it ever again.
It sounds nice and all, it just bores me. I'm not really into singer/songwriter stuff anyway. Lyrics and vocals usually take the backseat for me and here it's in the foreground. I do enjoy some of the guitar work here, especially on the title track. I just don't enjoy listening to this kind of stuff, especially in large doses.
I wish the lyrics were just as dated as the production, but unfortunately that's not the case. There's still something charming about the sound, I just don't care to hear a whole album of it.
It was all right. I'm not really into this kind of music, but it had some nice moments. Nothing to complain about, just not for me.
Lively and energetic, yet I'm still uninterested. I can see why it's on this list, but it's just not my thing. One of those albums I respect, but don't fully enjoy.
The first track was fun. The charm wears off quickly due to how dated it sounds. I wouldn't recommend a whole album of this, but in small doses it's a good time. Cheesy as hell, but fun.
I have this album in my record collection simply because I like the cover art. The music itself is decent. I like a handful of tracks, but it's not anything I'm crazy about.
An undeniably smooth album that is very easy on the ears. I liked this one quite a bit.
Very different from his early work. I wasn't expecting this sound at all. I kinda like it more, actually.
You know, I honestly just don't care for Rod Stewart's music. I don't hate it nor do I think it's bad, it's simply not for me. There are some moments that I liked, but it's just not interesting at all. I prefer his singles over his albums.
It's pretty easy going music, nothing that blew me away. I do enjoy some of it, but I don't really care for music in this genre.
I don't normally listen to stuff like this, so I don't really know what makes this special. I did enjoy some moments on here, though. In a different mood or environment this may be better to listen to.
I've never been into Blur all that much and this album just reinforces that fact. It's mostly average/boring to me. I didn't hate it, though.
As much as I hate Courtney Love, this album isn't that bad.
Deep Purple was the first artist I got on this 1001 Albums journey, so it was kind of nice to revisit the live version of them. I was impressed the first time around and I am still equally as impressed here. Solid live album with some great moments.
Pretty average, inoffensive, kind of boring, yet not bad either. Just plain, regular ass music. In this context it's both a good and bad thing.
There are moments of greatness here, but it's not perfect. In my opinion it's the last good album Rush made. All in all, It's a classic record that deserves all the praise it gets.
It was good, but it wasn't something that stood out too much. There are a lot of 90's hip-hop albums I would rather listen to, but it's still decent.
I liked the song from Shrek. Other than that it's pretty boring music, honestly.
I don't care for this kind of music, but Lynyrd Skynyrd knocked it out of the park with their debut album. For me to like this album is saying something! I don't love it, but it is a solid record.
I thought this was mostly boring. There's artistic merit here, it's just not doing anything for me.
Ladies and gentleman, this album is overrated (kidding). I liked some moments on here, but it's not as special as people make it out to be.
Probably the most boring, vanilla shit I have ever heard. It wasn't awful, but I just can't cannot get into this stuff at all.
I've heard this one recently, so I will skip listening to it this time around. I feel like it's one of their least talked about records, despite it being so heavily praised. There's some great songs on here, but it's not all good. There's almost too much material here, so unless you already like The Beatles this won't do much for you. Easily a top 5 Beatles album for me, though.
I'm familiar with The Smiths, although I have not heard this album before. I'm already a fan of their music, so I expected to like this. I actually like this one quite a bit, but I need to get more familiar with it. It's pretty solid! I do enjoy the first half a lot more than the second half, though.
I've heard this one recently and it is also a part of my vinyl collection. Chef from South Park knows how to make a fucking smooth ass record!
I have this CD, but I honestly don't even like it that much. There are some parts that are enjoyable, however it is kind of exhausting to get through.
Such a fantastic album. I never gave Stevie Wonder a chance before, but after hearing this album I am glad I did!
It's pretty decent for a boring band like The Eagles.
I've actually never listened to an entire Santana album, but I really enjoyed this!
I don't enjoy Rod Stewart's music, so I felt the same way about this. Not bad, just boring to me.
Eh, I wasn't to impressed with this. I was expecting to like it a lot more. Average pop/rock album.
I found this to be extremely boring.
Not my favorite Cure album, although it's still pretty good. I'm sure it'll grow on me. I really liked the second half of it.
It's a nice. charming live album. I just don't like vocal jazz that much.
I thought I was going to like this at first, but it's pretty lame. It's like Weezer, but somehow worse.
I can understand how some people enjoy this kind of stuff, but I am not some people.
It had it's moments, I just didn't love it. Feeling too lazy to go into detail.
This was pretty nice, although not something I see myself listening to very often.
Pretty enjoyable, but honestly "Maps" is the real star here. Not quite strong enough to be 4 stars, but I'd easily listen to this again.
The hit songs on here alone push this to a 4. Truly a great record all around, though.
A 15-minute blast of hardcore punk that's frankly over too quickly. It's not exactly the most memorable album, but it's a fun little rush of adrenaline that does the job.
I like this album somewhat, but it's never one I feel like returning to. It's the best Wilco album I have heard so far, though.
This is the album that actually got me into Kanye West. I wasn't really a big hip-hop fan before this came out. Now it's one of my favorite genres and I give credit to this album for that. This album is such an adventure. It feels so grand and alive. There's just something special about it. It's even a bit nostalgic now. I still love this record just as much today. 5 stars without hesitation.
Is this your way of Promoting the new Elvis movie? Anyway, I'm not too crazy about Elvis' music, but this wasn't bad at all. While it was decent for what it was, I honestly don't see myself returning to it anytime soon.
As far as reggae goes, this is a solid record. Problem is, I don't ever care to listen to it.
I just cannot get into this band. They bore me to death. Is it terrible? No. Will I ever like it? Probably not.
Not my favorite Stevie Wonder album, but still OK. A bit too slow, but it had it's moments.
I listened to this album quite a bit during high school. I wasn't in the mood for it very often, but it was enjoyable each time I played it. It still holds up somewhat, although I don't really care for it as much as I used to.
This is actually one of my least favorite Beatles albums. There's just something about it that doesn't click with me like the others do. I don't care for this one, but I get the praise.
I was kinda digging it, although nothing really stood out too much for me. I enjoyed the raw, punk vibe it had. Pretty good, but not great.
I liked this one for the most part. Had an interesting vibe that was also very relaxing. Good music to chill out to or have on as background music.
The music was nice, but the vocals were... interesting.
When it's good, it's really good. A bit too long and drawn out for what it is, but there are some beautiful moments within. Not exactly up my alley, but I can appreciate it.
Decent Beatles album with some classic songs. Kinda sits on the fence for me. There are Beatles albums I like and dislike more than this.
Already one of my favorite Hendrix records. Classic!
I don't even like thrash metal that much, but I enjoyed this quite a bit. I'd definitely listen to it again and I plan on checking out their other records. Pretty good stuff!
It's got those 2 singles, you know, the ones you've heard a thousand times? Also there's some filler, too. Overall kind of boring, but not terrible.
One of The Cure's best. Great record!
It's a nice, simple, and pleasant experience. It's got as much edge as a butter-knife. It's not bad enough to dislike, but it's a bit too calm and easy-going for me.
For the most part the production is great. The album is a bit too long for my liking, however it's pretty damn solid. I liked more songs than I disliked, so that's a win in my book. I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could, but I'll happily round up to 4.
Krisco Kisses? Nasty. Music's not that bad, though.
Does it sound nice? Yes. It it boring? Also, yes.
I do appreciate the talent here and the production sounds great, I just don't feel any significant connection with the music overall. Perhaps it will grow on me over time. I definitely liked it, though.
I have this album in my collection! Not one I listen to often, but I do enjoy it quite a bit. Solid 4-star album.
It's a decent album. I never was a huge R.E.M. fan to begin with. Better than I expected, though.
Wow. I never thought I'd see myself enjoying a Coldplay album, but here we are. This is actually not bad at all. I definitely hear the Radiohead influence, but there's nothing wrong with that. Pretty solid, easy listening.
It had it's moments. I just generally don't care for this style of music.
Raw, heavy, and full of energy. Great record!
Not my kind of music at all. I can see the merit, though.
This was actually pretty good. Not something I'd typically listen to, but enjoyable nonetheless. I would listen to it again!
Nice. For a compilation this long, I was not expecting to like a majority of it. There's plenty of variety here and they all have a special, unique vibe. It's really quite charming. Not something I would listen to often, but still pretty solid for what it is.
I'll take Bon Scott over Brian Johnson any day, but it won't change how irritating they both sound to me. AC/DC's music is just too boring and generic for me. It's constantly playing SOMEWHERE whether you want to hear it or not. I'm so close to hating this band, but they're at least somewhat tolerable here.
Classic punk rock! Proudly own a copy of this.
Not gonna lie, this was pretty boring. Talented guy, just not very interesting for me.
One of my favorite Offspring albums. Nostalgic for me, but it's not exactly perfect. There are moments I don't care for, but overall it's a solid album that deserves to be on this list.
You know, I don't care for ZZ Top, but this was quite decent. Would I play it again? Probably not. I wouldn't be bothered by it, though.
Sounds nice and all, just not something I see myself listening to very often.
Classic record with mostly great songs. There are a few duds here, but the hits are insanely good.
I've always loved their harmonies and their soft, relaxing sound. Not my favorite S&G album, but a good one nonetheless.
One of the most grating voices in popular music. Karen-core music that is barely tolerable.
It was decent, but no tracks particularly stood out to me. I liked it somewhat, though.
Pretty interesting stuff! Not exactly my vibe, but I do appreciate it for what it is. I liked some of it, but not all of it.
Not my favorite Cohen album, however it wasn't bad. He's typically more lyric focused and I tend to ignore lyrics and focus on the music. It's still something I am getting used to. There's a dark vibe about Leonard Cohen that I love so much and that's what I enjoy about his music.
I still don't love Sonic Youth's music, but this is a likable album with some good moments.
Definitely one of my favorite Yes albums. 100% essential progressive rock!
I can definitely acknowledge her talent, it's just not for me.
It's like a cooler Thom Yorke, but he made shittier music.
Not my favorite of Bob Dylan's work, but it is a decent album regardless.
A little too cheesy, which is both good and bad at the same time.
It's decent!
I have this CD in my collection and it's just as strange as it is fun. There are some dull moments throughout, but it's balanced out by the more... interesting moments.
Kind of borders between sounding nice and being boring, but it's mostly nice and easy to listen to.
I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. Pretty solid stuff!
Meh, I don't really care for this one. After the Gold Rush and On the Beach are much better.
I was not expecting to like this, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's blues rock (which I typically find boring) with a punk rock edge, which really helped me with this. There's a much better sound with that added gritty aggression.
I don't care how cheesy it is, this is cool as shit.
I didn't care for this one that much, although I did think it had some good ideas. Not really digging it, unfortunately.
Never seen the movie, but I am digging this soundtrack!
I really don't care for Britpop or Blur very much, although I think this album is decent for what it is.
It's decent, just not really my style. I appreciate it more than I like it, if that makes sense.
This album is way too long for what it is, but I liked some parts of it. It gets old pretty fast, although the production is nice and it stays pretty consistent.
Boring.
Already an album I enjoy, one of The Smiths greatest albums.
A few great singles, but overall the album is underwhelming and a bit annoying at times.
I recognized the hits, although I don't love them. The rest of the album is pretty generic.
Beck doing his best Nick Drake impression. It's not bad, just a bit too sad for me right now.
I love how dated this sounds. Adds to the charm of an already awesome record.
Similar to Thriller, there are a handful of amazing songs and the others are pretty decent. Hard to say which album is better, they're pretty equal in my eyes.
Really cheesy and not in a good way. I didn't dislike it, just not my thing.
I have this CD, because on paper it sounds great. Unfortunately, I just did not care for this. The first few tracks are pretty good, though.
I actually liked this quite a bit. Good psych-rock to jam out to.
Eh, this is both good and bad at the same time. Talented musicianship, just lacks substance.
This is much better than I remember it being. Pretty much what you'd expect from a Doors album. Has a few dull moments, but overall decent record.
Meh... I get the concept, I just don't really care for this sound. I prefer the last 2 Who albums over this.
I liked the first track. It sounded like something that could be released today. The charm wears off very quicky, though. The rest of the album is unfortunately pretty boring.
I listened to this album recently and it is damn near perfect. One of my favorite Eno projects ever.
I liked this one quite a bit! I love the upbeat nature of it. Some songs were more interesting than others, but that's to be expected.
Metal for soccer moms.
The Killing Moon is a great song. The rest of this album is decent, but doesn't come close to that song. It reminds me of The Cure, which is why I like it so much.
I am fortunate enough to own this on vinyl. Great record! The title track is my favorite.
I liked the vibe, just wasn't too impressed by it.
I've heard this one before. It's a decent jazz album.
This is weird timing. I listened to this one just a few days ago. Great album, but not my favorite Beastie Boys record.
It's Queen.
Not a big fan of Megadeth or thrash metal in general, but I did like it for the most part.
Kind of boring, honestly. I prefer Zen Arcade.
All I Wanna Do is hear another album.
I appreciate the artistic merit and talent here, but it's not my thing. I could see this growing on me, though.
I once saw this as one of Radiohead's weaker releases, but it isn't bad at all. I think this is one of those albums that grows on you over time.
Bounces around a bit stylistically, which works in it's favor more often than not. I liked the vibe overall, although I wasn't really blown away by any of it.
Great album, classic White Stripes.
It's ABBA. You can't hate it! I don't love it, but it's still decent.
I used to hate this for how "quirky" it was. It's like a hipsters staple album to brag about cause it's so "unconventional". Honestly, it's not that bad, it's just not really my thing.
Great live performance! Not exactly my kind of music, but it's still quite enjoyable.
The vocals actually breathe some life into what was a pretty underwhelming track. Decent overall, though.
Eh, a little too weird for me. It had it'a moments, though.
Ugh, what a chore to get through. Has a few redeeming qualities, but it's pretty annoying to listen to at times.
Solid album that deserves all the praise it gets.
I wasn't into hip-hop when this first came out, but 50 was impossible to ignore. His music was everywhere and this album defined the genre at it's time. It's decent hearing it now, but I have no personal connection with it. A few enjoyable tracks, though.
This album sucks.
I actually liked this one quite a bit. Love the fast -paced punk energy. The first half is definitely better than the rest, though.
Eh, I never really got into Nick Drake. Not for me, but I can acknowledge that it's done well, though.
Great record. I listen to jazz occasionally and I have always found Mingus' work to be top-tier.
Classic record that every music lover should check out at some point. It's just as fun as it is quirky.
I liked Rain Dogs considerably more, although there's a darker vibe to this that I appreciate. Tom Waits is a unique artist and while I don't always love his songs, the overall aesthetic is intriguing and puts you in a different world.
I liked this to a degree. I do enjoy the raw, garage rock sound/energy it has. None of the tracks blew me away, but none of it was bad either.
Of all the Elvis Costello projects I have heard on this list, this is easily my least favorite. If you're not in the mood for it then it really just becomes a chore to listen to. This album just drags on for too long and nothing really excites me along the way.
Early Beatles were a lot more straight-forward, compared to their later work, but they were still great songwriters. Great pop/rock tunes for their time, although the charm wears off after you're halfway through this.
I do love how energetic, raw, and heavy this is for it's time. Good ol' rock and roll music that brings consistent fun and energy. While I can imagine how influential this was on rock/early punk, it is not something I see myself listening to on a regular basis. The tunes are dated and it's mostly cover songs anyway.
I did like the instrumentation for the most part, however the vocals are pretty offputting. The overall vibe of the album is just not really doing it for me. A few moments stood out, but not enough to make this worthwhile.
I've heard this one several times and unfortunately I just don't get it. Probably my least favorite VU album...
Wasn't sure what to expect on this one as I'd never heard her music before. The production on this album is quite good and she sounds good on the mic. The album stays consistent throughout it's duration and it's only 35 minutes. Short enough to digest easily without adding too much filler. There are a few tracks that fall short for me, but the highlights are strong.
It wasn't bad enough to be bad or good enough to be good.
Pretty boring ass rock music, honestly. Tighten Up is a decent song, though.
I am a sucker for 80's synth-pop, so of course I liked this. Everybody knows Take on Me, but these deep cuts are also very good!
I found this to be quite boring, but it's not bad music. It's just not for me.
Interesting concept, challenging listen, but overall quite an annoying experience.
More like The Snore on Drugs. This really isn't all that bad, but my god it is so fucking boring to listen to.
Starts off with banger after banger, but the second half of the record kind of kills the vibe for me. It's a classic hip-hop album for sure, but I only really enjoyed the first half.
While I did find this pleasant, it's not really my vibe, so it was a bit boring. I love the closing track, though.
This is one of my favorite albums. When I first discovered it, it took many listens for it to click with me. I'm glad I gave it so many chances, because it grew to be an all-time favorite. Deserves all the praise it gets!
I heard this once a long time ago and I honestly forgot what it sounded like. I'm glad I got to revisit this, though. It has this singer/songwriter style that's a little artsy, but also kinda punk. It's very unique. It wasn't entirely great for me, but I did enjoy a good chunk of it
Not really a genre I enjoy, but I respect these guys.
My GOD this was boring. I think I'd rather listen to that Kid Rock record again than this sappy garbage.
I prefer my jazz on the energetic/fast paced side, but this had it's moments. Good vibes all around.
While I respect Ray Charles' impact on music and he is certainly talented, this music honestly bores the hell out of me.
Eh, I was a bit optimistic for the first few songs, but I quickly lost interest after that. It's OK, but not that good.
I never really got into the Stones, even after hearing a few of their "best" albums (including this one). I'm just not into the country/blues rock sound that much. It's decent, just not my vibe.
Easily my favorite Van Halen record. Any rock fan should enjoy this to some degree. I'm not the biggest Van Halen fan, but I do think their debut is an essential rock album. Listen to it loud!
I'm getting a little tired of the Elvis Costello albums. They're not awful, but they just aren't doing much for me. It's like a bland piece of white bread. Yeah, I'll eat it, but it isn't special.
My feelings for this record fluctuated as it went on. It's a bit too drawn out for what it is and I honestly don't get the hype. It's decent slacker/indie rock, but even good slacker/indie rock bores me at times. I don't know, it's OK, but not something I would go back to anytime soon.
While I thought this was pretty decent, I don't see myself getting in the mood to listen to this kind of music very often. Maybe it'll grow on me over time.
Solid record, one of my favorite Lips albums.
Anybody who has listened to the radio in the past 30 years has heard a majority of these songs already. I don't dislike Metallica at all, however I don't really consider myself a fan either. Despite their legendary status, that still doesn't sway my opinion of their music. I've enjoyed these songs throughout the years, but due to hearing them so much, I just don't care to hear them anymore.
Pretty interesting blend of psych-rock & pop. It's short and sweet, which definitely did this album a favor. I can enjoy stuff like this in small doses.
I'm honestly just not interested in this style of music, regardless of how cool the backstory is behind this record. It does nothing for me at all.
It's Miles Davis. What's not to like? While not one of his best, it's still fairly enjoyable.
Phenominal record. One of my all-time favorites.
It's a very quirky, fun record. I was hoping for more catchy songs, but they a little too "out there" for me. If you want to scratch the cheesy synth-pop itch, this will definitely do that for you.
Classic, essential jazz.
Sounds nice, although it's a bit sappy and dated.
I'm usually not into this kind of stuff, but I enjoyed a decent amount of it. "It's Too Late" was easily my favorite track here.
It's honestly not that bad, however it is also not good either.
