Classic and arguably the best Nirvana album. Kurt's vocals shine on tracks like Something in the Way and the acoustic arrangement of Lake of Fire brings another level to the song.
Songhoy Blues - refugees from Mali due to religious (Islamic) extremist group Ansar Dine.
Interesting album, really enjoyed it. The different styles of blues and rock shined through.
Soulful song Mali, I don't know the language but the intent seeps through.
Surprised I hadn't heard this one before.
Good album, Paul Simon is a great story teller.
Me & Julio is still my favorite, enjoyed Paranoia Blues and Run that Body Down.
Fetch the Bolt Cutters was an interesting album. Power in her lyrics, going through her journey as an artist and as a woman. Clear message of women need to be heard and we won't be silenced. Especially liked the title track Fetch the Both Cutters and Under the Table. Will listen again.
I don't get Bruce Springsteen personally. I know millions of people do so I suppose it's just me. Hits aside I enjoyed I'm Goin' Down. Overall I'll say its fun album, something you can dance to when no one is watching. A best album of all time? I don't know but it does scream homeboy Americana till the cows come home.
This album is wild. Such a variation of styles, the sensual overtones, and engagement of Marvin Gaye with his musicians is captivating. His use of his music to cope with his own childhood traumas and spiritual healing comes though lyrically.
I love The Downward Spiral. I love that it hits just as hard today, while I load my reusable earth conscience bags into my family car, as it did in 1999 sitting on my bff's floor doing our makeup to go check out guys at the mall.
Musically this album is pretty standard for anything of the same time frame. So it's not it's good it's just not anything special. Lyrically and vocally it's consistent for the Bee gees ... Garbage
This was just a fun bunch of songs. Would recommend and listen to again.
The was a generic garage punk album. Really didn't bring anything new, definitely would not rate it as a "must listen".
Great collection of songs. Solid throughout, I especially liked the Iron Man cover took me a minute to pick up on what it was.
Amazing album, Hendrix was a master.
Not sure what to say... Started listening and was suddenly 6 songs in and didn't realize. Hardly a difference in songs to stand out from each other. Everyone plays well, March of the Black Queen and Funny How Love Is are pretty solid and have a different sound from the rest of the album
Blueski- love the guitar melody, great change of pace
Stagger- great sound vocal combo
This was honestly better than I expected
Fairly generic - A&E is easily the best song on the album
This was god awful. Beyond awful. Beep boop and repeat the same line over and over for 6-8 minutes. So happy when it was over.
Amazing album. The layering of music and sounds, talking, sound effects is intense and tells a story.
Bad brit pop. Can hear a lot of Stones and Beatles influence in there.
It's like 50/50 good/bad. I want to like it but then each good song is followed up by super meh. Maybe I'm not the demographic anymore. 2.5
Elenore Rigby is the best song on the album. Everything else is pretty okay.
Classic album, the crazy jazz piano riffs really give it a unique sound
Great synth pop / new wave sound. Amazing album, will check out more by this group.
Solidly ok elevator department store music.
This was definitely interesting, really enjoyed
Better if it wasn't live.
Not what I expected but good none the less
Can absolutely easily hear their influence on future heavy metal and punk.
Jam band with good vocals.
It's solid but I think most the mass appeal was the shock that a skater punk band has thoughts to put into lyrics.
Gawd, the Stones... I don't get it. Maybe if Mick Jagger wasn't vocals? Cause that guy is awful and distracts from anything that might be good.
Classic, half the album has hits that are still played today. How often does that happen.
Amazing album, so powerful and completely holds up
I love the artwork more than the album itself. Songs and lyrics were interesting but not wholly memorable. Very solid album not as good as Pet Sounds.
It's music and you can dance to it if you have no shame.
Excellent album. Felt like a conversation in music.
Better than the Beep boop of the last album (Trans Europe Express) but still not getting the hype. At least they figured out lyrics need to be longer than two words.
Spacelab reminded me of the music on the space level of the NES DuckTales game.
This was surprisingly good
I think I've aged out of Metallica. It's all so repetitive and dull anymore.
It's got the hits, stars for that but the rest was meh
The hits were good, the rest of ok
There are better Wilco albums than that but pretty solid
Musically it's pretty - lyrically, obvious he was trying to process a lot while writing this album.
All the classics you grew up with
Great sound, Talking Heads always has such an interesting energy and this album is no different. Highly recommend.
If Bjork had a back up band, this would be it.
Great great album. Good Only Knows is my fav Beach Boys song.
This album threw me for a trip. I had the expected The Velvet Underground was in the realms of Bowie and The Rolling Stones but then 2/3 of this album was "I wanna be the Beatles" type stuff. BUT, get to the last three songs and it's like a completely different group. Wow. The Murder Mystery totally saved this album from the grand level Meh experience it had been providing.
The hits and every other song that could have been.
Really cool at this point in life it feels like a period piece. Definitely moment and time kind of music.
Legit definition of WTF. Just sounds like each member of the band wrote and recorded their own separate songs and then overlayed them together. Tah dah done. There's skill here but it's odd for odd's sake. "Story" songs are like Zappa but not nearly as good or entertaining.
All the hits but Clean was the best song on the album
All the Rage and Sulky Girl are stars.
Meh, I really don't see what's special here
A Cellular Song is good... Everything else is either ignorable or of it's own time and place.
I didn't want to tear my ears off like other Smiths albums. Still doesn't make it good.
This is definitely a case of less is more 2 and 1/2 hours is beyond excessive. A hour in and it felt like I was listening to the same song over and over again. I cannot hear the big deal of this one.
Wow, The Rolling Stones can make a good album... Never knew
Ah, back when you didn't have to be able to sing to get a record deal. Perfectly fine album once the nails on the chalk board could be tuned out.
It's like a second rate Oasis album... Not in a mean way, like, if I bought the album I wouldn't be mad about it. In the same breath, the radio hits are the best songs.
Bob Dylan, if Bob Dylan stopped trying.
CCR, jam band music that you've heard a million times but now with more jam! So bored listening to this album. Not for me.
Broken Drum is an eargasm of sound.
Really solid album.
70's jam band music, it's what you'd expect & nothing to write home about
On Any Other Day & Does Everyone Stare best songs, Message in a Bottle you've heard a million times... several others were a big swing and a miss.
Excellent album, really showing the range of Janis Joplin.
Perfectly adequate Elvis, not nearly as powerful as other albums
Like, why... I swear this is the third Bjork album on this list so far... what is it about the greatness of this singer that I'm not understanding? Cause it's definitely going right over my head.
The epitome of mid-90s sound
Great sound, all songs fed well and great variety of instruments in each song. Dancy dance for sure
Interesting sound, I hadn't listened soukous/ rumba music before. I wouldn't go out of my way to listen again but not upset I got this one.
Not the best Joni Mitchell album. Felt very uneven.
Only stand out songs are Over and Over and Mother Earth. Farmer John was so annoying had to skip half the song.
Absolutely listen again, feels in the same realm as Radiohead. Beautiful composition of sound.
If Tom Petty and Blue Hammer smashed and created a child that ought to have be drowned at birth.
Interesting... Black Rose is the best song
Really cool mix or English, Spanish, and French - music style all over the place. Enjoyed this more than I thought I would
Much better Costello to pick from
It's the Beatles you grew up listening to on the oldies station
Like most people, I only knew Randy Newman as the Toy Story guy... Omg did I have my expectations smashed apart and then run over. Shocked in a good way, that I had to stop and listen/read the lyrics and research references. Department store music you definitely can't actually play at a department store.
Really solid album except for the two songs are obvious pulls from Tommy and The Wall.
If only the rest of the album was as cool as the first song ...
Amazing sound, huge variety of musical flavor in one album.
Kings Lead Hat sounds exactly like a Talking Heads track
Yeah, Blues Hammer meets Iggy Pop. Uneven sound, screaming, does not work for me even a little bit
Forgot how good this album is
Ok but forgettable. It was more background music and anything of note.
Amazing album start to finish. I'm not much into modern pop but Adele is the one singer that I can't get enough of.
Good but even, the hits still kill but the rest doesn't meet at the same level.
Best songs: Gasoline Alley and Only a Hobo
Overall OK album, grew a tad tiresome by the end honestly.
You're My Girl feels like the most traditional Rod Stewart sound.
Surprisingly good. About half of this album could have been released and been popular singles.
Album that defined a generation.
Points for the ballsiness of the title of the album. Great marketing ploy but the album wise was meh and forgettable.
Creative combinations of styles. Really enjoyable
Not for me, high point Incarcerated Scarfaces
Better than Hole but the same category
Not bad, nice mix of styles
Interesting, very performative 70's glam rock
Wish I had know about Pavement before now, def my jam for early 90's California alt rock. That said, the album was top heavy for good songs and then everything else. 3.5 stars
Absolutely mid... just Soundgarden wannabes
House of Cards and Videotape were the most solid for me, enjoyable mellow sound overall. Prefer some of their other albums more
Zappa! Great collection of music
Average, I liked the story telling tie ins between songs; that was kinda fun
The is one of my favorite albums ever. I've probably listened to it at least 50 times in my life. The first time, it absolutely blew my 15 year old mind. I hadn't heard anything like it before. Thus began my love of all things Pink Floyd.
German Zappa; or that time you went to an art museum, saw some random splatters on canvas and was told it was a statement piece
Basic Jay Z album. Best song Heart of the City (Ain't No Love). Rest of the album, tracks are good BUT would have been better served if he didn't bother with lyrics. "Never Change"... Really? I'm rich but I still do crime, but I still have street cred. Ok Jay Z if that's what you need to tell yourself.
Fun album, like his solo better than Wham
Solid album, includes the hits
Def a time and place kind of music. Kind of Prince -esk 80's in sound. Unlike Prince, every song sounds the same. Very copy/paste for tone. I appreciate they kept it to 38 minutes.
Excellent, I've heard of T Rex but never listened before for this was a good introduction.
Enjoyable sound, songs all sounded a bit different, the radio single stood out from the crowd.
Interesting psychedelic 60's rock...
Lots of fun songs, Dolly is an amazing gem of a singer (and a person). Would listen again.
Great storytelling album with some of the hits
Wow, absolute stunner of an album
No, just, no. I would rather stick a fork in a light socket than listen to the again.
Leave it to the Stones to create an album that sounds like someone recorded a karaoke bar and sold it. First song is a banger, last song is a banger... Chuck all the stuff in the middle and it would be perfect
Solidly alright but nothing to write home about... I thought I liked Mudhoney more than I actually do it seems
Brian Eno's tribute to The Beatles
Best George Michael album I've heard... Great play of vocal and music
Top loaded album... All the good stuff up front and can skip the latter half.
Stuck in a Moment best song 5 stars
Elevation is more annoying than I remembered.
New York is a god awful 0 stars
2.5 round up to 3
What if Bob Dylan couldn't write songs and secretly wished to be the rolling Stones that's what you get out of the modern lovers
Interesting feels dated but modern. Great voice
Awesome variety of styles
2.5, not my style but some of the songs were amusing
Dude can't decide if he wants to be Bono or Bowie. Was well over this album before it was finished. 1.5
Still don't get the garbage that is Leonard Cohen. I feel like he's taking me on a Tolkien adventure with stream of thought consciousness lyrics and a fifth grade level recorder.
Remember that time when your cousin was like hey you gotta come with me to hear this band and they drag you to some warehouse in the middle of knowhere. Then some dudes come on the stage that appear to be half out of it and start jamming on some instruments that were all third hand-me-downs. And it's ok, you didn't regret the night but you know it's only because of the weird context of the experience.
This album is that.
Feels a bit ahead of it's time but still that mumble brit pop groove.
Surprise surprise.. another fucking Leonard Cohen album on this list.
It was ... Interesting... I wouldn't be surprised if Kate Bush listed Yoko Ono as an influence. The second half of the album got better.
Yeah that's an odd one. Thought I was listening to a theater musical soundtrack.
Honestly that was a lot of fun
In My Life the highlight but I've heard several better covers and arrangements. Beatles are good at setting up the shot for someone else to win.
Sounds like an Animal Crossing soundtrack
Beep boop keyboard smashy... Pass
Good, funny, unusual, and unexpected
Boring, boring, boring.. oh there's the hit... Boring, boring, done.
Reminds me of spending time with grandma
Easy 5*... Led Zeppelin sold their souls to make such a perfect album
Better than the last one I listened to by captain beefheart but holy hell that is not hard
POV When you go to the $$$ Mexican food restaurant
Not what I expected, really good
Not seeing the appeal of this one
Sounds like people just recorded their mess around sessions trying to figure out how to turn sounds into music. Not in a crazy bad way, like a science experiment way.
Cars works, everything else is like he's trying to figure out the right sound for Cars.
Better than I thought it would be with a name of "Country Joe & the Fish"
Really good, I prefer Fat of the Land but this has a great variety of sounds and style
Gene Autry type stuff, might be for someone but not for me
4.5 great album, proto punk - brilliant energy, consistently good tracks throughout
I feel like I should like this one more than I do
Really really good, not what I was expecting
Like it was ok but in the way where I swear I've heard several of the song when never actually heard any of the songs of that album
Kinda beach boys , kinda noise machine
This fell into the category of albums that didn't hold up. I enjoyed this album as a young teen but probably haven't listened to it since 1999 and it's not nearly as good as I remembered.
Best Neil Young album I've ever heard.
That was interesting - French rap
Jazz.. now with bongos! Interesting for the, her I've heard this in a soundtrack! songs
I've never been a big Sonic youth fan but this is okay. I know they're appeal is that they're like a dirtier sound but for me it doesn't translate well
I found this a really interesting album... like half of it felt like it belonged to David Lynch type movie and other parts reminded me of talking heads.
Album ended, Amazon music went to auto play random and I didn't not notice. That is how generic this album is
Better than most Sonic Youth albums but still that raw / dirty feel ... So ok if you're into that.
Billy Joel is for the masses
Mr cabie and flower child best tracks... Kinda boring but great vocal talent
Like Talking heads but tripping balls
Tried to be Dylan, but confused him for Bruce Springsteen so ended up as John Cougar Mellencamp.
This list has lost all credibility with this selection.
Seeing all the biz people rating this 10/10, five stars and I'm just left wondering what am I not hearing. I heard a 44 minutes of a horrible vocal track over synth pop crap.
Then I was advised the dude unalived/ offed himself shortly after this was released and all the ratings made more sense in a don't speak bad of the dead kinda way. I'll be honest, this is pure unenjoyable cut yourself in the bathroom emo 13 year old kid garbage.
Covers but replace all the vocals with zither track.... Neat concept
This Woman's Work was the best song on this album and almost made it worth having to listen to the whole thing to find it. Almost.
Feels very typical of 1960s Rock where a lot of music is borrowed / stolen from American black artists of the time. Thanks to that this is one of the better Rolling Stones albums
It was CCR... Not much else you can add here
Guitar feedback... So original
Good metal. Can see where the influenced a lot of the metal in the 80s
On Hold was the best song of album,
Album was amazing then it turned into random pop surprise casserole. Like they forgot what they were doing and said fuck it, what do have laying around to fill minimum track requirements.
Going on a hobbit adventure
Better than most Cure albums
It's like Bruce's style found 1993 in 2002. Better than most but still bland milk toast
Too good for background music but not quite there to make a splash
4+20 is now my favorite CSN&Y song.
So bland, not what I'd expect
Probably my fourth fav The Who album
Loved the collection of instruments used
I was obsessed with this one in the 90s. It still holds up.
Enjoyed this once I came to terms with how different it is from Different People.
Scooby Snacks... And a bunch of white guy 90's stoner rap.
Worse than the Beatles together
Alright, not his best album imo
I can see why people like it but....
I feel like I almost like this...
Beetles go punk, it's odd but good
Does not hold up... Jane Says and 10 other tracks
Lost two full stars for the song Chant.
Like all Dylan, great but would be better if some one else sang it.
Hello Mr. Blue Sky is like the one of these things is not like the others surprise track but still overall ok
Bad karaoke to a musical no one wanted.
The only upside to Leonard Cohen's "singing talent" is, how easy it is to tell how terrible his lyrics are.
Love this one & love that everyone is surprised that not at 14 tracks are Song #2
Love this album, seen her perform it live. Listened to the original and acoustic back to back, thank you for that excuse.
The Who on the brink of coolness...
Bjork's protege.... Rambling flow of consciousness song writing, pretty harp music with weak vocals
The lyrics are interesting... Would like to hear someone remake this in a non-synth pop style. As is, it's fine to ignore while listening at the gym.
Interesting combinations of styles
Not my fav Paul Simon but entertaining
Really cool live feel, entertaining
I've never been an ABBA fan I know that means I lack sufficient Joy or something in my life to not appreciate them. But just doesn't do it for me.. that said, there were a couple sons on here that were less annoying.
Another basic Nick Cave album
Wannabe Tom Waits wishing he was half as good
70s acid music ... What you'd expect
Synth pop stuffs... Ah the 80's...
The 80s strike again, holy hell was anything not synth pop in this decade...
Solid, I wanted to like it more than I did
Once again the generator being funny with it's selection (see current news). Never understood the appeal of Coldplay but the album is fairly ignorable.
Everytime I started to think I liked this album I got bored again
It's fine but the albums ended and my streaming switched to "autoplay similar stuff" mode and I completely didn't notice for three songs. 2.5 for generic pretty beep boop music
So many times I had to stop and wonder what I was listening to. Real or satire.
Would have been better if the vocal track was muted... Some good samples and mixes on a few songs but the lyrics I could have done without. 1.5
Would have been better if the album was shorter. As is, it all started to sound the same after awhile. A serious case of say less to say more. 2.5
German Nine Inch Nails... If Trent Reznor couldn't actually play music.
Music & unintelligible mumbling
Colonizer theft ... But it's okay because hEs A vIsiOnAry... Uncomfortable listen, feels like McLaren recorded this whole album while wearing blackface.
Really good, immersive sound
Today is just one of those days that feels all sad, rainy, and pointless so I know any other day this album would have not been as good to me as it is today.
Surprised they even got to be one hit wonders. 1.5 round up.
For a one hit wonder, this is the third album of theirs I've heard on this list. Mid
Hate the player, love the game.
Basic "of it's time" album
Better than any other Smiths album I've heard but still not good
I always forget The Kinks are way cooler in my head than in reality.
Started out with my favorite Neil Young song and everything else was ok. His work with Crazy Horse is def his best.
An album of songs I could go the rest of my life never hearing again.
Nothing more overrated than John Lennon
If you focus on the lyrics, a couple of these songs are fun...
This album was essentially a resume and job application ... He's hired.
Similar vibe to A Tribe Called Quest
Holy father, I'm ready to confess... I don't actually like Megadeth when I said I did... In the early 2000's, when I was but a teen, I first heard them I thought the band name was cool and the singer was hot.
For my sin of lying, I've seen them live twice (both times sucked) and listened to several albums (barely got through all of them). I pray my penance be accepted and I never have to do this again.
Amen.
Chicago is a band my husband has been trying to get me into for like 20 years... Still a pass
😍😍 this is my favorite album . Hard stop
Disco should come with a trigger warning
Very 1996, Weezer and Foo Fighters vibes. Surprised I hadn't heard of them before.
Only took till 2013 but someone figured out how to make synth music not suck. Well done. Feels very modern and relevant, I wouldn't have been surprised if this came out this year. Enjoyed the whole thing.
I can see what people like this it's all right but the guys kind of a mush mouth.
Typical reggae album not much different than any other
Time machine album for sure
I don't know the dynamic of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds but I'm going to give a 1 to Nick Cave for his terrible not trying vocals and stupid AF 16 year old girl diary lyrics. 4 for The Bad Seeds. Enjoyed the music, would be immensely better as an instrumental album.
Yawn.. like a less interesting Coldplay or yellow card
TIL "Blue Eyed Soul" is an actual musical genre and that perfectly describes this group/ album. Beatles with soul so more entertaining than I thought it would be.
Album composed of, Running Up a Hill and all the other over layered repetitive songs.
Not my favorite Waits album but still oddly entertaining
Albums I didn't see coming, yeah, this is on the list
