Reviews (page 6 of 8)

It's funny to me that even after not listening to broadcast radio for nearly 20 years, I thought my Rod Stewart saturation might have subsided. Nope. Still too much. Great album. I can't listen to it.

It was fine

Maggie May is an all time great song and I was looking forward to finding another gem that I'd like and add to a playlist but never heard one.

Decent blues album, better than expected, Maggie May and that’s all right are the highlights

I think this is the 3rd RS album I've had...and its getting a bit tiresome....however this was the best so far. His voice still bugs me though.

Not bad Rod, not bad at all. This guy became some weird sex symbol guy, like Michael Bolton or something, I don’t know why or what his deal became. Do women go wild for Rod? No idea. This album has to be pretty early in his career, it’s got a folk-rock twist to it that’s pretty enjoyable. “Maggie May” is a big one, and I really liked the back end of “That’s Alright.” The Elvis cover isn’t great, but the instrumental outro was really nice. Not enough here to put Rod in high esteem for me (almost typed Rot there, that made me laugh), but it’s alright mama. Favorite tracks: Maggie May, I’m Losing You, That’s Alright. Album art: Pretty cool art style, seems anachronistic for some reason, like it was made in the 2010’s to look old? Not bad though. 3/5

A really chill album with mostly love as the topic, reminds me of The Beatles' first album. Fine per total

Rod has a unique voice. Sometimes it works for me very well, and sometimes it's rough. Maggie May is such a classic and it's really hard for me not to love. On the other hand, the snippet of Amazing Grace at the end of That's Alright sounds kind of like nails on a chalkboard to me. Overall though I enjoyed this album. Rod is very talented and he is a great songwriter.

Typische rockmuziek. Heel goed te luisteren. ***

I know a lot of Rod Stewart songs, but I can't say I had ever listened to an actual Rod Stewart album before this one. And his voice is so distinctive that you can't help but be drawn in by it. Some interesting tracks on here, with the opening title track being one of the best, the right tempo and guitar drum drive. "Maggie May" is one of his most famous, though not one I've ever really thought a lot of. There is a divergent mix between rock guitar and then country and folk, especially on the Bob Dylan track "Tomorrow is a Long Time". As it turns out, I would love to have heard more made of these songs in pushing them with a rockier instrumentation, because Rod's voice to me always operates better when the music is that way. This album is still good enough in my opinion to take a listen to without setting the world in fire.

Rart. Konsekvent lyd.

This album was a nice listen. I really do enjoy the raspy aspect of Rod Stewart's voice and how he uses it in his music. Aside from Maggie May, I'm not overly familiar with Rod Stewart's solo work, so I was pleased to hear that the rest of at least this album had a nice rock sound to it. There was an audible mix of blues, soul, and folk in here too; giving things a slight country-esque lean. One thing I will say about this album is that it somehow sounded newer (if only slightly newer) than 1970. If Rod Stewart played a part in the furthering of harder rock music mixed with bluesy and folksy sounds, I wouldn't be surprised.

To me not a top tier album but a solid 7 nonetheless is a grooving bit of a weird hybrid of rock, country and blues. Ronnie woods guitar work on some tracks was really fun especially the slide guitar. Favourite tracks - Every Picture Tells A Story

You know what... I can't fucking stand Rod Stewart. But this album made me see it's that I hate him, his inability to sing, and complete overexposure NOW rather than his albums that came out in the 70s. Enjoyed this more than I thought I would.

Okay, sounds like a well polished bar band

bang bang

Stod Rewart

Solid album all the way through. With a couple standouts. Liked the last half the best. 7/10

Maggie May maggí smei, það er í besta falli sæmilegur smellur, þótt mandólínið virki reyndar vel. Sæmileg plata og ekkert meira en það.

Found the first bit repetitive and uninteresting, though that could also be related to the style no longer being as new. Tomorrow Is a Long Time was good, but because Dylan is very good. Also I like the finger picking. Maggie May’s start was especially strong. Mandolin Wind was where the album really took off for me. Overall I much preferred the second half of the album.

16th Feb 2023 - Honey on toast, Janine Kitchen. The Clouds covering the hills and mountains creating a lake of white cotton over Bagni Di Lucca.

This sure was a classic rock album.

I really enjoyed the first half of the album. Definitely fizzled out.

Alright album. The highlight obviously is the Maggie May song. Is it one of the 1000 best of all time? Maybe.. but certainly near the bottom of the list.

No lo escuché entero, pero buenos temas

3.5/5. This is pretty solid. I enjoyed listening to this. There is not anything crazy going on here. Overall, a good album that I would not have an issue listening to again.

I'd give this a half and half. It's a good mixture of rock, folk, blues and a wee bit country. Some of the songs on this are obvious hits others a bit dated and boring.

Wow…I liked this. I haven’t ever had a positive responds to RS’s music, but this was enjoyable! No major standout favourites but I think that it was a short album helped me to enjoy it more.

Never took the time to listen to Rod Stewart. He has a really unique voice which I was impressed with. But the twangy, singer songwriter vibe isn't hitting for me. Maggie May is the standout here but I don't see myself coming back to this album

Some pleasant tunes and good covers. Maggie May is gorgeous. Title track rolls along well. Elvis cover rocks. Not as bluesy or rocking as with The Faces or Jeff Beck, but Rod’s vocals in the 60s and early 70s were great for the style.

Bluntly, a bunch of average songs, a Dylan cover, and 'Maggie May'. I heard 'Maggie May' when I was younger, and it is catchy, so I'll listen to that one every now and then. His voice gives me intrigue, but that's kind of it.

Better than I expected. Appreciate the rock and roll sound much more than his later albums.

The band takes it straighter on these (arguably better) songs, though the axis really has less to do with swing than inebriation. That means less to recommend Stewart, though certainly not nothing. It's the strings for me, backing a glossier project.

Maggie May and Find A Reason to Believe are both awesome, good listen through

I enjoyed this. Still pretty mellow but better than later era Rod.

MAGGIE MAY, ALL FOR LOVE, I DONT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT... MANY HITS, MANY SONGS

Billly

Classic style

75/100: Never before has a new album met my expectations so precisely. Knowing a little bit about Rod Stewart, I found this album sounded exactly how I thought it would. It was exactly as good as I thought it would be. Let there be no confusion, though, I did not expect this album to be fantastic. I expected a lot of moody guitar riffs and got them. I do love moody guitar riffs, but not an entire album full of them. This is still a good album, but it's by no means anything monumental or even that memorable. With that being said, "That's All Right" was fantastic, mostly because I was not expecting a cover of "Amazing Grace," so that was a cool surprise, albeit the only one in the album.

Enjoyed this, not listened to much prolonged Rod previously, really liked “That’s alright”

Rod pre-Power Ballads, thank god. These are solid songs with great melodies. I’ve never been a fan of his voice but these are pretty good and I can just about endure that gravel.

Rod Stewart is commonly associated with something like music for grandmas and that's exactly how I was picturing it in my head actually. And you can sense that while listening to the album, it is very approvable and likeable for an old person. But I don't think it means that the music is terrible, because it sounds very solid to me. What is visible is the spirit of this decade and it's something that isn't now produced and probably never will be in the future. It stayed in the past and remained as those albums, such as 'Every Picture Tells A Story' by Rod Stewart. Long story short, I like it. Not love, but like. And I'm at peace with that. Favourite track: "Seems Like A Long Time", least favourite track: "That's All Right"

Did not finish because it's not my style, definitely has energy and it belongs to a different generation. I don't see myself going back to it anytime soon. There was 1 song that was pretty good but I felt very underwhelmed

This album is good folk and blues. It has rock elements in some of the songs It’s good folk and blues. It has rock elements in some songs which give it a fast paced feeling in those songs. The instruments are interesting, and I wish there were more rock elements but I get how that was simply not in the cards during this time. One last thing is that the Amazing Grace touch was an odd one. Favorite track: (Find A) Reason to Believe

I bought a copy of this from a $2 box about a year ago, but I don't think I ever sat down to listen to it all the way through. Quite enjoyed the rough and ready recording, and Rod's vocals at the height of his powers. The band (largely the Faces) are that great mixture of tight and loose, and really digging in. I like the rockier tracks particularly, and the cover of the Temptations (I Know) I'm Losing You is outstanding. Feeling like I scored a real bargain.

I didn’t know much Rod Stewart at all before listening to “Every Picture Tells a Story.” I don’t think I’d seek out this album again. My favorite song was “Tomorrow is a Long Time,” but I like the Dylan original better. Though the harmonies are beautiful. “Mandolin Wind” is also beautiful. I think if I were to like any Rod Stewart album, it would have to be this one because of its folky, bluegrass, mandolin flavor. But for me, it misses the mark.

Enjoyable listen

Bit karaoke but pretty decent

I guess I was more familiar with Rod Stewart than I gave my brain credit for, and I did find myself enjoying it, especially Every Picture Tells a Story, Maggie May, and (Find a) Reason to Believe. I was surprised by the Amazing Grace included in the second half of the track That's All Right.

Some bops. Some flops.

Some of the songs suffered from being needlessly long despite clearly running out of material (That's All Right clocking in at 6 minutes??) That fortunately wasn't the case on the whole though, and there were some great tracks (especially the opener and of course Maggie May)

Bra drag

I'd enjoyed this more than I expected to.

A bit racist.

y bien qsy no es mi estilo honestly? 6/10

I expected much less from Rod Stewart, but this album is enjoyable. Nothing exceptional or out of the box, but nice

I love Rod’s voice but I don’t like the audio mixing. Maggie May is a great song!

Now I see why old white people go crazy for this shit

I have never heard this in full before and thought this was fine, verging on good. My favorite tracks were Mandolin Wind and Maggie May. Honestly I don't think I like Rod Stewart's voice very much. I'd much rather hear Mick Jagger.

I really don't want to like Rod Stewart, but this is pretty good. The sound/recording is great.

some decent jams

Rid Stewart was my wife's first ever concert! Remember my uncle having this album back when everything was vinyl in my Kokomo days. Distinctive voice for sure. Enjoy a lot of his music through the years and absolutely love I'm losing you. The cover of Elvis's That's alright alright into Amazing grace was another great memory from the past. Good solid album that brought back a lot of good memories from childhood. 3 to 3.5 for me.

I don't connect with the lyrics of the songs in all cases with Rod Stewart, but these records from the 70s have a nice sound. Perhaps, if the storytelling were different I'd be drawn to them more but alas that's not the case.

Better than I thought. Good for party

Solid RS album, with a good mix of originals and covers, quite an improvement from Gasoline Alley.

Kos! Litt Jethro Tull-vibe? Kul sound. 4

Exile on main street vibber?

classic rock that does not get too original.. in its time maybe...

"fell in love with a slit eyed lady" good good good Maggie may is solid

I think the Rod Stewart Unplugged album really ruined this album for me. There are some really good tracks here, but the Unplugged version of "Mandolin Wind" soured me on that track, and especially "Reason To Believe". Then there's the repetition. A lot of the songs are stretched out by the repetition in the lyrics. (For example, the title track.). It started to get a bit tiresome. I was also particularly bothered by "That's All Right." The extra addition of "Amazing Grace" really made that song 1 that would be listened to once or twice and that's IT. I don't mind noodling at the end of songs, but doing the whole song was unnecessary. Maggie May... how many times have I heard that one. Still, a great song, though. I can hear all of the other Faces on the album, even though contractually they don't say really who's on each track EXACTLY. So I liked the album, but probably would have liked it more if I hadn't heard the Unplugged album so much.

Some great songs on this album... and some duds. Not a bad listen

2/5 without Maggie May

Everything about this album is just really good.... But I just don't like stewart's voice much.

Lotta Roddy Stew doing Stones cosplay here, but a few true great moments 👍

Rod Stewart is a referent. His song "Maggie May" is fine.

Maybe not best for getting amped up for work but very nice for easy listening. Although as much as I would enjoy listening casually, not sure if I would ever think "oh I want to listen to that album specifically". But would definitely listen to again when I am not working, maybe on a sunny summer day relaxing on my busted lawn chair in my backyard while sipping on an ice cold beer watching the dogs frolic in the grass. It makes me want to reminisce about the good old days when life was easier and I could cruise around in my pick up truck and when Tiesto made trance.

Beetje van hetzelfde. Maar niet verkeerd

I had no real history with Rod Stewart, but always liked his voice. This is a pretty good album I hope to come back to.

It's fine. Roots rock isn't really my thing so it doesn't do a lot for me but it's not unpleasant either. Some nice guitar playing on it.

This is very close to being The Faces, and that's great. The vibe is very much like that Faces album we already listened to. It's not Rumours good, but it's pretty good. Every song has something to grab on to, and I'm not a fan of Rod Stewart's voice. I'm liking all of this in spite of that. The album starts strong and builds to Maggie May, and then gently plays itself out. I don't know if I'll go back to this on purpose, but I wouldn't turn it off if it came on.

Pleasant, with a couple of standouts - 'Mandolin Wind', 'Maggie May', ah go on, add 'I'm Losing You' into the mix too - but little to grab the listener by the throat. Amiable, comfortable and definitely worth another spin on a slow, sunny afternoon - but that's as far as I'll go. Stewart is a distinctive and characterful vocalist for sure, but nowhere near my favourite.

C'était bien mais pas transcendant

Average

I've personally never been much of a fan of Rod Stewart's ragged voice or most of his music, but I do appreciate this album for what it is, Sir Roderick's breakthrough to understandable fame. It didn't really start off great, perhaps, with the title song, which doesn't seem to have aged well, let's just say. The rest is folky, bluesy, raspy, so raspy. Repeat. It's Rod Stewart. Not my fave.

Didn't feel it was particularly ground breaking but it had some good somgs

A mixed bag here, but most of what's in the bag is good. Some of Stewart's best guitar work and catchiest songwriting means most tracks are toe-tappers, with only 1-2 duds to slow things down. Stylistically it never coheres as a full LP for me, but still an enjoyable listen all the same.

probably not bad, but I really liked it, a little not my style, but I added one song, but I'm glad I listened, + point for an interesting title

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Loved the slide guitar and rootsy feel.

Rod Stewart has an unusually thin penis. It's like a witch's finger. You'll squeal when he inserts it into your bum. Squeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaallllllllllll. It's my finger in your bum. It's my finger in your bum. Now lick it clean. Yum, yum, yum.

quite boring tbh

Good album by rod stewart. It has one of his best songs with Maggie May. The rest of the album is similar in tone but not really many other hits. Nothing too bad about the album except the amazing grace outro In one song felt unneeded. Would listen again. 6.9/10

I’m a massive fan of folk but in my opinion rod Stewart is so mediocre but no redeeming qualities. Maggie may is decent but still, this album could be better

Meh. It's pleasant enough and I guess it's rockier than the other one on this list. But overall not for me. Fave: Maggie May

Pretty good, very Scottish sounding

Nice. Not his best.

voice too raspy i know im losing you is the best song tho

Rod Stewart is not a new artist to me. I've heard about half of this album as individual tracks, but never listened to a complete album from Stewart. There are some great instrumental sections and tracks ("Tomorrow is a Long Time", "Henry", "Mandolin Wind", the 'Amazing Grace' portion of "That's All Right"). I was not aware of the talent of Rod Stewart's band, but I still get bogged down by his voice. I think that Stewart's "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" (not on this album) has permanently ruined hearing Stewart's voice for me.

I'd never heard a single Rod Stewart song before listening to this album. It was perfectly middle of the road.

Some really great songs.

it was very Okay. easy to listen to.

Un poco rollo. Le pongo 3 por Maggie May.

Nothing inherently wrong with the album. I just don't like Rod Stewart.

What an instrument Stewart has and some of these songs are classics, but not the greatest album.

Guy always irritated me. Good voice but just something grates.

It was listenable but not someone I would naturally seek out. 3*

Well I thought I'd not like it because not a big fan of his voice but actually it wasn't too bad. Some hits and some misses but enjoyable enough overall.

Well this was like fine I guess. I've never got the big deal about Rod. I don't really like his singing style but I think I respect him as a song writer. It's just pleasant I guess. Doesn't make me feel anything

Quite enjoyed it but it did feel a bit repetitive. I really like Rod Stewart's voice.

Enjoyable, have listened before. Some tracks way better than others

Second Rod album that's let me down. I blamed his writing the last time only to realise that 75% of that album was covers - this time I'll play it safe and blame it squarely on the fiddle that rears its mong head in Tomorrow is a Long Time. Ronnie Wood is walking all over that bass though I love it.

Maggie may, but otherwise quite bleak

Old gravel voice. Not the usual poor selection of material from Rod.

cant beat a bit of Rod

Classic early (solo) Rod Stewart. Folksy blues rock?! 3rd solo album.

I have always liked Maggie May ok. It tells a relatable story. Overall the album is pleasant enough. I gave the second half a second listen to see if it would grow on me more. I'm Losing You and Reason to Believe are almost great. It is interesting that he still sounds like a grizzled old smoker even 50 years ago. Googling to see pics of him in the day I came across this glorious wall of 70's: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/1900024821511568/

Not many stand-outs aside from "Maggie May," but still worth a listen, and was better than expected.

i'm bias. but this was OK. maggie may is a cool song.

3/5 it had potential.

This sounds rather dated. The popular songs stand up due to there familiarity. Live this would be pretty good.

Enjoyable, I'm a little surprised Maggie May is so popular compared to the rest of the album: it doesn't seem any better than the other tracks

Hadn't really listened to Rod Stewart much before this, and I liked it more than I expected to. Will continue to explore his music.

Enjoyable if fairly average pub rock.

It's ok, can't get an image of him as a gurning old man though, don't really like his voice 2.7

That was a fun listen.

i don’t know what’s supposed to be great about this album except maggie mae

I always kinda liked Maggie May. I never would have listened to this normally and neither of my parents were particularly fans. I felt I'd like this more than any of his later albums. It's nicely bluesy and country in places. A nice listen for sure.

Better than I expected. I actually enjoyed most of it.

Was ok but probably wouldn't go back again

Oh, classic rock! Feels very country and folk inspired.

Rod Stewart has never been high on my list, but this album is objectively good and a breath of fresh air after yesterday's post-punk blah. 3 solid stars.

Oké album. Klassieke rock-sound

Fine. Rod Stewart is okay

Not a big fan of Rod Stewart but it's a decent enough listen.

Maggie May and the title track are 👨‍🍳 🤌

The boomerist of boomer music... Nothing bad here, but outside of Maggie May, nothing great either.

it was mediocre. not my fave but i also liked some parts, just kinda boring!

Fine album

Frankly, I was just kind of bored by this album. I didn't hate it, but I never thought "I sure am glad I heard this album because this song really speaks to me".

Expected cheese - was pleasantly surprised, but not blown away.

Did not know much of this except for one song, couldn’t have said this was Rod Stewart either, a bit of a blind spot. It’s ok but sounds very radio friendly

Golf is a slow sport, filled with muted excitement and plaid pants from Rod Stewart's wardrobe. Someone must be listening to this album tho. The play-count on Spotify is through the roof. ...It's gotta be those golfers. The first song out of the gate is great, and by song number three, I'm searching for something that could give me the motivation to keep listening. This isn't a new phenomenon, all of his music seems to be like this. Similarly with Faces, another RS group, I thought "man, I should listen to this stuff more often" until I do and realize my time would be better spent screaming at my kids or watching golf. I'd like to think that RS is a rocker at heart, on par with Mick Jagger and Keith Moon but the energy he has just isn't sustainable and it slows down. Some people may refer to this as 'range'. I say, if you want range, go hit a bucket of balls with your plaid pants. This album barely registers as par.

Meh. The only song I really liked was Maggie May. I do like a lot of the guitar, but his voice really doesn’t do it for me.

Inoffensive

The first couple of songs go on a little too long and I thought I wasn't going to like it as much as I ended up doing.

Didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. Hes still a legend but nothing stood out to me as a favorite. A couple classics but I dont think I'd need to return

A lot more American Songbook than I’d have guessed. Hadn’t noticed how similar the end of Maggie May is to “Losing My Religion”. “Mandolin Wind” is a song that transforms at the halfway mark, from dull to wonderful. In a way that serves as metonym - an album that’s half pretty dull, and half absolutely wonderful.

(Find A) Reason to Belive (I Know) I’m losing you Maggie May, Every Picture Tells a Story, (I Know) I’m losing you

Better than expected. Enjoyed (I Know) I'm losing you - temptations cover.

I feel i'm about 20 years too early for my Rod Stewart fandom.

Rod Stewart was in his mid-20s during the recording of this album and that blows my fucking mind, because his perennially-weathered voice has made him sound like he's 60 for as long as he's lived. And good for him, because his voice really makes a lot of the music here (not to downplay the quality of the compositions or the interplay between the acoustics), turning what feels like the 80th folk-influenced record our group's had into a much easier listen than any of that Fred Neil bullshit. The fantastic title track was my favorite song of his going into this, and that hasn't changed, but the Temptations cover was a nice surprise, containing a bigger sound and glimpses of swagger that make you understand how Stewart would go on to think that "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" was somehow a good idea. Pretty enjoyable stuff overall, though most of the songs go on for a minute or two too long; Rod needlessly doubles the length of Elvis' "That's All Right," and that's not even counting the rendition Amazing Grace they sneak in at the end. Key Tracks: Every Picture Tells a Story, Maggie May, (I Know) I'm Losing You

The more country influenced songs stand out more on this record. Rod Stewart can write and sing a perfectly find rock song, but the tone of his voice is well suited to more folk/county sounds where he can showcase his finesse as well as his power

This is an easy entry for non classic rock listeners to break into the category. It's soft rock, easy listening album that actually goes by really quickly. There isn't a bad track on this album but besides the radio singles nothing else really shines. Favorite Tracks: "Maggie May" "Mandolin Wind" "(Find a) Reason to Believe"

Some fun, nothing groundbreaking.

Not bad

It's fine - kinda luke warm about it. Enjoyed it but not floored. Solid classic rock sound.

Sympa!

bonzinho

Thursday 13th May 2021 Morning after Hog's birthday, listened in bed in the morning. Strange one, I kind of liked it kind of didn't. Maggie May etc all great and some wonderful song writing, I don't think I like his voice

Rod Stewart's signature growl was always fit well in the Faces. The guitars and keys play an important role in his success, and there's a slight turn on this solo record. His attempts to match the other singer/songwriters of the era finds a mixed result. The first half of the album is a difficult listen, especially the culturally-voyeuristic gaze on the title track. But the second half of the record comes alive with beautiful production and lyrics. 2.5/5 Fav track: Maggie Mae

This era of Rod Stewart dovetails so closely with the Faces' records that it didn't surprise me to learn many of his bandmates also played on his solo albums. I *was* surprised to hear the "Your love is fading/I can feel it fade" like pop up on "(I Know) I'm Losing You" and then found out this is the song Kanye samples on "Fade", albeit a different version. This album has its moments of brilliance, but is bogged down by covers and a few wildly problematic lyrics (*cough* "Every Picture Tells a Story" *cough*). Still, this is my favourite mode of Rod Stewart: gritty vocals, slide guitar, and working class aesthetics. Favourite songs: "Maggie May" and "Reason to Believe"

No es para mí

Isn't as poppy as I thought it would be. I appreciated the acoustic-ness of it.

Maggie is a fabulous song. The rest of the album chas its moments but leave Maggie off and I can't imagine it making many Top ___ lists.

I don't get the Rod hatred. It's not a better for sure but my foot was tapping throughout so that's a good thing

Not too shabby. 3RS

Rod Stewart’s a bit meh but this was a decent listen. Hated the Amazing Grace bit

Pretty easy listening. Rod at his peak, before he got well annoying.

Liked this more than I thought I would. It's a bit edgier/rockier than I'd assumed all of Rod Stewart's music was. 7/10

Maggie May is wonderful for sure. Yup there with his best

habs ned ganz gehört aber isch okay.

Classic classic rock

I love Rod's singing voice, but the songs don't do much for me. The acousticy sound just doesn't really work with his rock and roll style IMO. Gets better when he lets the guitar do a folky-thing and leans into the direction.

Some interesting inspiration and movements on each track. Maggie May is a standout.

Very nice album. I realy like the voice of Rod Steward. This already makes the album.

The first few songs were not good but I liked the folk/country styled songs. Maggie may is perfect obviously. I’m just can’t listen to Rod’s voice for a long period of time.

Not a huge Rod Stewart fan, but I actually enjoyed some of this album!

Alright, but nothing too standout. Favorite is probably "I know I'm losing you"

I'm not the biggest fan of Rod Stewart. This album features Maggie May, classic. At times this album almost has a folk sound (for lack of more descriptive terms).

Quite a lot of standards on her that Rod makes his own.

i was bored. and kind of annoyed

I’d almost rather watch paint dry

not a big rod Stewart gal

Isn't for me

Not a rod stewart fan. This album has a lot of rod stewart.

Just kinda okay.

eh, kinda just background music for me except for maggie may

Better than I thought but still not listening again

i really dont like rod stewart. so repetitive and grading i hate his voice so much

Rod is so overrated. Maggie May is all right, otherwise a pretty bad album.

just not doing it for me

Aw man I hated this. Just so boring, I can't put the proper or fair words to it but so much of this album had me rolling my eyes. Some good harmonies I guess. That's alright was pretty good but I think it was mainly ah yes blues riff I can vibe to this and then all of a sudden it's amazing grace very strange. Maggie May is the stand out of course and I do like it in general but eh. Mr Stewart is one of my grandmother's favorite artists so I gave him the fair shake but I can't imagine listening to any of this ever again. I can fully see how this is someone else's bag though.

I've never listened to a full Rod Stewart album before, and unless there are more on this list I don't think I will in the future either. Not for me.

Can't be arsed with Rod at all.

I wanted to give Rod a chance but not feeling it.

There was a part of me thinking that actually listening to a Rod Stewart album would end up changing my opinion of him as a weird sex symbol for middle aged women in the 70s-90s. That part of me was wrong.

Not really a fan of Rod Stewart. I just don't get his schtick :/

Not a bad album, I just don't like rod Stewart.

There’s something about Rod Stewart’s voice that I don’t particularly care for. I’m not even sure how to quantify it with language, it’s not that it’s particularly grating, annoying, or unpleasant, it’s just.. not for me? I don’t hate it, I don’t like it. Musically this feels mostly like mediocre 70’s folk-rock, and not particularly heavy on the rock either. I like the song Maggie May, but that may just be because I’ve heard it so many times on the radio, the pattern recognition part of my brain is just happy to be included. There’s also some debatable if not outright distasteful lyrics throughout, at the very least very dated. Not a record for me, but I suppose I could have seen its appeal in the early 70’s. 2*

If I wanted to be entertained by Rod Stewart I’d search up the cup draw antics. This was bland.

The cover versions were better than the originals, and those originals are better than the cover versions.

One of my more popular reviews (thanks for the love guys & gals) was....... "Anyone else think this list is a little heavy on the "white dudes do R&B / rock". Sadly, other bands (a) did it better and (b) didn't have Rod's voice ruining everything." So yeah. That.

Fun fact: when playing Trivial Pursuit with my grandmother, she would always answer any question about rock music with "Rod Stewart." Fun fact #2, I was listening to a rock playlist in the car, and Rod Stewart came on. After a few seconds, I forwarded it and said, "I can only take so much Rod Stewart." My wife agreed. His voice is unique, I'll give you that, but that must have been some serious Dunning-Kreuger to think he could be a singer. Obviously enough people thought so that he had career doing it...some guys have all the luck. But that voice. I just can't. It's like AI said make a blues song, and then sucked all the soul out of it. I've never gotten the appeal of Rod Stewart. The music is good, I like the bluesy arrangements and alternate guitar tunings. I'm left to wonder, did Maggie think he was sexy?

Esta bien...

Seems fine - nothing catching my ear though - simply soft rock background music

This would be a 5/10 if I could make it that way, I'm just very iffy about Rod Stewart.

I've had a lifelong dislike of Rod Stewart, so was dreading this. It was actually…fine…and there has certainly been a lot worse included on the list, but from me Rod doesn’t get more than: 2⭐️

esperaba mas de el 2/5

Didn't really care for it. Not my style.

I like Rod Stewart's raspy voice and the jangly piano, but at the end of the day it's just a 70s rock album and there are artists from the era that I like a lot more

Every Picture Tells A Story - 3/5 Seems Like a Long Time - 2/5 That's All Right - 2.5/5 Tomorrow is Such a Long Time - 2.5/5 Maggie May - 3.5/5 Mandolin Wind - 2/5 (I Know) I'm Losing You - 2.5/5 Reason to Believe - 2/5 I had only known Rod Stewart as the guy who had a unique voice and sang "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy". The first part is surely true, but he writes his music in the way that I've perceived him: extremely dated with a hint of misogyny. Overall: 2/5 Favorites: Maggie May

This would have been better if Rod Stewart wasn’t singing

It's listenable. There's just so very little that would make me willingly put a Rod Stewart song on! Standout : (I Know) I'm Losing You

In general, the band sounds really good, Ronnie Wood sounds great. But it's crazy how Rod Stewart is the worst part of every Rod Stewart song.

The voice grows on you after a while, conpositions mostly meh. Could've died without hearing this, will not listen again.

I found this a little annoying

not for me

I'm starting to think this list was made by Americans for Americans. It's not a bad album, it's an interesting combination of folk and rock. But there's nothing special about it to me.

Pretty unexciting for me. Don't think i'll put this back on for my own enjoyment.

⭐⭐ Tycker inte detta albumet är särskilt intressant. Gillar Maggi May.

Every Picture Tells A Story - 3.5/5 Seems Like A Long Time - 3/5 That's All Right - 2.5/5 Tomorrow Is A Long Time - 3/5 Maggie May - 3/5 Mandolin Wind - 3/5 (I Know) I'm Losing You - 3/5 (Find A) Reason To Believe - 2.5/5

Honestly didn’t do a lot outside of Maggie May and amazing grace

nothing special just radio friendly/catchy tune pop rock from fabulous singer.

more 2

I really tried to find some way to appreciate this. It's just a bit shit. Pub rock.

This was an okay album. Rod Stewart is hit or miss for me.

Bro I don’t think you are a good singer

very plain album nothing outstanding

Yes we can all play these 3 power chords.

The instrumentation choices on several tracks were kind of neat—fiddle, organ, like a US western frontier county-rock kind of feel. But overall I wasn't particularly “wowed” by this album. Nothing about it is bad, it just doesn't do much for me.

so boring

I really don't like Rod Stewart's voice. It's frustrating because I know there are good songs and he's well known, but I can't get over the voice.

While Rod Stewart’s raspy delivery remains a 'love it or hate it' staple, the album as a whole feels strangely uninspired, failing to carve out a unique space in the crowded 1970s folk-rock canon. This is due in part to it's slightly dated lyrics, generally lethargic sounding guitars and vocal singers, and it's knack for repetition (case in point: the 4:02 length of "Seems Like A Long Time" does indeed seem like a long time). That doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, but you'd expect more for something considered one of the best albums ever. Perhaps it was innovative or great when it first released but it is well past it's best before date.

Not a fan

Wow there's some sloppy bass playing on this album, and some great guitar playing as well. Let's just say there's some interesting production choices. (Amazing Grace? 🤦‍♂️) Then there's Rod Stewart's singing. Sometimes he sounds like his earlier cool bluesy self, and at other times the cheesy, loungey Rod that I know from his later years. It's quite the dichotomy.

I'm just tired of this type of music. 2/5

Unremarkable, I had to listen to it twice as I somehow wasn’t paying enough attention and missed it the first time.

One star awarded for maggie may

Meh. I don't have much to say. I thought I really liked Rod Stewart and maybe this just wasn't his best album. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood. I found myself spacing out instead of listening and I didn't want to try a second time. Oh well. They can't all be winners. Standout (not trying to pick something "cool" because I didn't really listen): Maggie May 01-20-2026

Great background music and when you tune in, great (maybe dated) lyrics, but overall, boring and not really my taste. Favorite: maggie may

Maggie may drags this up to a 2. But he is such a pratt I can't go higher.

Rod Stewart has a distinct voice, sure, but why does he have a career? I don't find this album very interesting. The interpretation of these other songs are just, well, ok. But overall, I found it quite boring.

not for me

I was excited, on paper this is held on such high regards. It started off incredibly too Americana for my tastes, and halfway through, I'm bitch slapped with Amazing Grace. Musically it picks up afterwards, but not enough to make me appreciate the effort as a whole. I didn't know I was gonna be such a Rod Stewart hater. 2.1/5

I understand why this album matters historically, and Rod Stewart is clearly capable of making strong, characterful music. But 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘗𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘛𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘢 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 doesn’t strike me as particularly special anymore. The rough production and the mix of folk, rock, blues and soul feel more like a loose scrapbook than a focused album, and the charm that once defined it doesn’t fully carry over for me. There are moments where everything clicks, but as a whole it feels dated rather than timeless, interesting rather than compelling.

Minns ni Rud Stewart i Robinson?

B to the j to the äring

shout out till min farmors favoritartist. men ja…. mediokert ändå

I’ve never been much of a Rod Stewart fan. I probably recognise a number of his hits, but he’s not someone I’ve ever listened to beyond radio play. I find him ok, but it’s not really my thing.

Great voice, songs don't really do it for me. More mandolin than I was expecting.

This is not how I thought Rod Stewart sounded. Not that catchy though.

Rod Stewart is alright as a singles guy. As an albums guy, I’m not so sure. Now, I’m not one to criticize his voice. I think his raspy vocals adds a lot of character to the time. My main “meh” with this is how mild it feels. It really is just an album of Rod Stewart’s owning. That’s all it feels like but he does take ample time to showcase great acoustic works (Mandolin Wind) and Maggie May. Maggie May is spectacular, bar none. But besides that, the rest doesn’t do much for me on one listen. And I’ll say it again: Rod Stewart’s alright (6/10, 2/5 on this scale) (Update: 5/10)

Tories not welcome Fuck off Rod

The very definition of bog average.

This is an album a day thing and tbh I don’t like rod stewarts voice. I said this before with truth by beck which was much worse because that’s like a bluesy album. I do think his voice is alright with this softer roots rock album and some songs like the title track and Maggie may are good. Can anyone explain the random ass amazing grace though, I didn’t like that. The backing music is really good, love the organ on last song, drums, guitar are all good and album length is good but still not a rod fan.

Rod's voice is in fine fettle on this album, but I find his brand of acoustic-orientated rock a bit hit and miss - it works well on stomping hit single Maggie May, for example, but elsewhere the production ends up sounding a bit sparse and unbalanced. It is a sound which, for me, is only ever as good as the material, and on this album the material comes across as a series of simplistic and underdeveloped vehicles for Stewart's vocals.
