Nice staaart. Pls have a nice voice. Okay. It’s okay. So far so good. This is kind of my thing. Nah I’m bored already. But it’s still nice. Really love the music. I liked a lot of the lyrics too, cool stuff. It gets little bit boring at times but it never sounds bad, and it’s not super long anyway.
9 of the songs sounded like the same thong with different words. Was not until the last two songs that it showed signs of life. Could exist without listening to it ever again

Found it a bit dated and meh. Would maybe go back for another listen though
it's nice actually, i love me a bit of nice english accented rock and the instruments are catchy in a way that doesn't irritate your head my english peopledem never fail to content i will be saving
ой, рад что унылая инди-параша всегда существовала, а не является изобретением моего поколения. странно, как это не потерялось на фоне волны гранжа и альтухи, хотя к 93му году уже потихоньку спад пошёл, судя по всему. Не совсем говно, конечно, звук приятный, стиль где-то на стыке пиксиз, РЕМ и каких-нибудь менее экспериментальных шугейзеров, типа Slowdive. Послушать можно, но под конец это одинаковое нытье утомлять начало, тем более что цепляющих мотивов две с половиной штуки завезли. Ещё и самую пиздатую песню Early Years предпоследней поставили. Ещё и вторую самую пиздатую песню запихнули вообще хиддн треком после финалочки, ну это совсем петушиный поступок (впрочем она звучит как более хуёвая версия Early Years всё равно). В целом без негатива, конечно, право на существование имеет, но мне слушать было неинтересно, ну 6/10 и пусть будет
Бля, ну нет ща у меня возможности гонять этот альбом репитом, хотя, возможно, и заслуживает. Вроде неплохой, внятные мотивы, оригинальный инструментал, приятный вокал. Опять же, скорее понимаю, чем ощущаю. В целом, положительное мнение кое-как формировано, хоть и хочется его проверить сомнениями. Но у нас тут тысячеальбомка за три года, нельзя себе такое позволять лишний раз.
I really enjoyed this album. For a band that had not previously been on my radar I was really surprised how good this album is. I would consider this more Alt-pop then Britpop, Britpop seems dated and less inspired than this album. The influences leading up to this album and music that was influenced by this album show the staying power of this music vs the blip on the radar that was Britpop. Good album all around. Favorite songs: don't trust the stars, Valet Parking, Junk Shop Clothes. 4 stars
I have a hard time understanding how The Auteurs didn't take off in the Brit Pop scene. The have a distinct folkly/chamber pop sound, clever lyrics and a front man that's not afraid to voice his cynical views on British imperialism. It's reminiscent of Ray Davies at the height of his powers, and they even carry a hint of 60's British Invasion in their music. Surprised this one passed under my radar. The production is a little bombastic at times, which dates it, but still enjoyable, as there is a tension between the cutting lyrics and the guitar-driven pop of the time. Fav Tracks: Don't Trust the Stars and Valet Parking. Rating: 3.5/5
In spite of arriving amid the Britpop boom of the early-mid 90s, this record has the feel of a lost classic. I can imagine how this might get lumped into that category at a superficial level, but the details and approach make me feel like those associations are more a coincidence of when this was released than an indication this was part of a scene. I'm hearing some Robyn Hitchcock in the melodic instincts, intricate arrangement, and sneering vocals. Nice variety between the more acoustic and fuzzy numbers on this one. Overall, I really enjoyed this introduction to a new (to me) artist. Favourite songs: "Don't Trust the Stars", "Valet Parking", and "Show Girl"

On the first listen, I really didn't like most of the LP. I liked the first track but then they lost me for a while but I also liked the last three tunes. This was somewhat bizarre since the Spotify numbers show that nobody ever listens to (read likes) those last three tracks. I thought I should listen to it again and the second time through most of the songs from the dreaded middle section of the LP were OK. It kinda grew on me -kinda the way you start liking the jingle in a McDonald's commercial. Perhaps I was thrown by the name "New Wave" and was expecting something else.
This album started okay and then got worse. So somewhere between a 2 and a 3 out of 5 for me.

5. Started out okay. Didn't get any better.
With the degree of sameness is the songs, this sounds more like a solo effort than a band, which is more-or-less true. As Sue says "it was definitely better the second time around, though I'm not dying to hear it a third time"
Brit pop at its best. Start of the genre in one of best possible ways, better than Blur (but not better than Suede)

Debut album from a band that I've never heard of. Its pretty good early 90's alternative rock with some good driving guitar melodies. They were nominated for a Mercury prize, but it seems that they were a one-hit wonder?

i wanted to give this a 3 1/2 but as i can’t i’m going to mark it up to a 4 purely for the instrumentation on the album, some of the melodies and guitar are really lovely, definitely my favourite thing about it.

Estaba convencido que eran una banda americana y resulta que son británicos, lo mismo eso explica su (corta) trayectoria. Sonido de los 90 separado del grunge. Este disco empieza con su éxito "Show Girl". Interesantes "American Guitars", "Junk Shop Clothes" o "Don't Trust The Starts".

Fairly average
Gotta be honest. I had never heard of this album or this band. This is a great album. It sounds like if Oasis had the creative sensibilities of Stephen Malkmus. Gritty, somewhat dark 90’s alt/brit rock. Good stuff.

Otra banda que jamás había escuchado ni mencionar. Wikipedia no dice prácticamente nada del disco e igualmente no da casi información de la banda. Dice que va a ser britpop... No, esto no es britpop, esto es bastante mejor que el britpop, esto quizá suena un poco más como a twee-pop, música bastante decente en indie/rock/alternativo con un cello bien utilizado, suena por ahí medio a mezcla de Kinks-Beatles. Las letras agridulces, bien escritas, canciones correctas de 3 minutos bien realizadas. Es un album disfrutable, quizá se alarga un poco las últimas tres canciones pero finalmente nada que caiga mal. Hay suficiente buena producción y capas, me agrada la manera en que proyecta la voz (me recuerda ligeramente a la banda T-Rex). Da un poco el sonido que siento que se hizo más prominente hacia finales de los 90s inicio 2000s, a pesar de ser 1993. Mi detalle sería que, ¿cuál es el punto para calificar en esta lista? En mi opinión se tiene que cumplir al menos una de tres situaciones: (A) Un álbum musicalmente brillante, innovador, que casi sin importar el género puedes apreciar lo bien hecho que está, (B) Un álbum que tiene una gran importancia histórica, que cambió algo fuerte, impuso o creó estilos o que tuvo un grado de popularidad que no se puede ignorar y/o (C) Un álbum que aunque no es casi conocido/reconocido es totalmente único y no vas a escuchar otro disco que suene igual, sea por extraño o por su estilo o por cualquier razón es algo único que vale la pena escuchar. Este disco, aunque es un disco bastante sólido y agradable siento que no cumple ninguna de esas condiciones; a pesar de que me agradó no le veo nada que resalte o lo haga especial como para estar en la lista; pareciera de nuevo un favorito de alguno de los editores que logró colar sin que se dieran cuenta entre 1001 discos. Buen disco, no le veo sentido aquí.

Maybe 2.5 but that would be generous. It started out alright, but I was hating it by the end.
Un par de buenas canciones y música aceptable. No me gusta su tono de voz y no son Dylan para platicar las canciones. El disco se me hizo plano tirándole a aburridón. Creo que el adjetivo 'unremarkable' (nada particularmente interesante o sorprendente) lo resume a la perfección. Chistoso que el último track en Spotify realmente son dos canciones, supongo un hidden track, que de hecho es de lo mejor del disco. Songs: Early Years, Bailed Out, Subculture (hidden track).

Nice, but all the songs kind of melt together. Makes for a cohesive listening experience but also causes you to drift off and stop really listening.

Un disco de rock ligerito noventero como abundan muchísimos. Siento que aporta poco y que habría ejemplos más interesantes del género y del estilo de voz.

I enjoyed this album. There were some songs that sounded really good to me, and a few where the singer's voice was pretty annoying. Some of it sounded like early Death Cab for Cutie, which is not a bad thing.

Pretty cool indie-pop record, catchy songs, and a sort of darker atmosphere that I like quite a bit.

Woaaah, what a gem this was. Never heard of them previously, but this is some brilliant stuff. Not far off from bands like Suede, and more specifically the album Dog Man Star.
