Shadowland by k.d. lang

More like KD Lame

Celebrity Skin by Hole

I didn’t listen to Hole in the 90’s because I don’t like Courtney Love. Boy did I miss out! This band is amazing!

Sunshine Hit Me by The Bees

Phenomenal album. The UK has a way of promoting these unique bands that end up on the radio or with a Mercury prize.

Groovin' by The Young Rascals

Groovy

All Ratings (253)

Innervisions by Stevie Wonder
Jul 21 2025

Good but not enough to convert me to a dedicated follower.

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure
Jul 22 2025

Good but not great. Surprised by how much instrumental music is on this album.

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Jul 24 2025

Good. Glad I listened to it. Does Sabbath not use power chords? Was surprised by that.

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Jul 28 2025

Sunshine of your love. Obviously the best track. The rest has surprising variety and is very bluesy and not pretty. Definitely an enjoyable listen.

Bossanova by Pixies
Jul 29 2025

It’s not so much that I disliked most of the album in a bland, idc kinda way, but maybe that this genre of music is just so dated and aged. I’m glad I listened but I won’t be back.

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Jul 30 2025

I liked this album. Very eclectic, noisy and somewhat discordant. Was surprised by the horns and lengthy instrumental jams. I can tell that Phish listened to Zappa. Overall enjoyable.

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Jul 31 2025

One of my top five favorite albums. The sampling, layering, and psychedelic production by the Dust Brothers made this a critic favorite when released in 1989 but never found radio success. I love The Beastie Boys!

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Aug 01 2025

Good album. No surprises. Jangly white boy bluesy soft rock. Sultans of Swing is only standout on album.

Young Americans by David Bowie
Aug 04 2025

What a phenomenal album. Had never listened before. Sometimes he reminds me of the Beatles and other times it’s straight funky like Sly or EW&F. He’s so eclectic and I love it. I’m a new fan for sure.

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
Aug 05 2025

Excellent. Love the first track but didn’t know who sang it. Rock ‘n soul is a perfect album title. He does early rock and roll, doo wop, and early soul with a masterful touch. Will listen again!

Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Aug 06 2025

This album is eponymous for those of us who were in high school or college during the late 90’s/early aughts. I didn’t like it then, and I don’t like it now, but I recognize the importance of this album and band. I’m glad I revisited it but don’t need to listen ever again.

Eternally Yours by The Saints
Aug 07 2025

I’m meh about this album. Just not overly impressed. I’m sure they made waves when they were around but now this music is dated and boring.

Diamond Life by Sade
Aug 08 2025

I mean how can you go wrong with the classic, the inimitable SADE! This is baby making music for sure, and is great in the background. TBH though, all of her music sounds so similar. If you have heard one famous song, you will always recognize her music.

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Aug 11 2025

A great album. I knew the first song but didn’t know who sang it. Interesting use of classical piano and violin sounds with her banshee-like vocals.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Aug 12 2025

Not bad. Glad I listened but I won’t be back. We are Family is the only memorable song.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Aug 13 2025

Damn good album. Neil Young always sounds kinda the same to me. I prefer him with CSNY. This album is very country, lots of twang and some jangly.

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Aug 18 2025

Fantastic! Amazing! Influential! Innovative! Creative! Masterful! This is something that I’ve listened to in the past but revisiting was impactful. I cannot say enough good things about this album.

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Aug 21 2025

Such a time capsule album. It’s not my style but she’s damn talented.

The College Dropout by Kanye West
Aug 22 2025

Superb. Excellent. Masterful. Memorable. One of the best hip hop albums of all time by one of the GOATs.

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Aug 25 2025

Not as good as Kind of Blue but how could it be? It’s also completely different. I do like it but not sure how often I will want to listen to it.

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
Aug 26 2025

Phenomenal album. Especially when considering that Dave Grohl wrote, played, and produced the whole thing. It is at times post grunge, 90’s rock, and other times gives hints of the radio friendly songs to come from this band.

At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
Aug 27 2025

Very bluesy. Not as much southern rock as I expected. Also lots of blues jams. Can definitely tell it is a live album. Sounds like an old juke joint.

The Wildest! by Louis Prima
Aug 28 2025

I mean this is classic. Many songs are very recognizable so I get the inclusion. Also, won’t be back. He was great for his time.

Aug 29 2025

Obviously a classic album that is great for what it is. Total baby-making music here. Not for me but I recognize the talent.

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Sep 01 2025

Classic album. More bluesy than expected. Album starts loud and strong and settles down as it progresses. Definitely understand why so many boomers love the Stones.

Live At Leeds by The Who
Sep 02 2025

Great live album. Needs big speakers to sound right. I feel like this performance was very punk and had never connected that before.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Sep 03 2025

Excellent. Cannot say enough good things. Am now a huge fan.

Sep 04 2025

Did not recall most of this album as I listened. A totally different experience from Dark Side. Definitely prefer Dark Side but this album is special and unique. I’m sure when it was released it was revolutionary.

Sep 08 2025

It’s their only good work. This was the soundtrack to my life when it came out.

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
Sep 09 2025

Excellent. I love bossa nova/ samba.

The Cars by The Cars
Sep 11 2025

Phenomenal album.

Forever Changes by Love
Sep 12 2025

First song is amazing and covered in an authentic way.

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Sep 15 2025

Love this dude. So 90’s.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Sep 16 2025

One of the best albums of all time. If you don’t like this, you don’t know music.

Sep 17 2025

Ok I don’t want to be a hater, but why was this included? It was a hit when it came out but I missed it and am not sorry. Strange choice.

Dummy by Portishead
Sep 19 2025

One of my favorite albums of all time.

Back In Black by AC/DC
Sep 22 2025

It’s classic. Not my music taste but it can’t be denied.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Sep 23 2025

A great album. Not sure why the debut isn’t the album in this list unless both are included.

Bright Flight by Silver Jews
Sep 24 2025

Good album. Twangy and a bit jangly. I do somewhat recall this album coming out.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Sep 25 2025

Classic. Totally middle school vibes. These guys are true American legends.

Technique by New Order
Sep 26 2025

It’s a classic. Too much new wave and synths for me but i recognize the importance of this album.

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Sep 29 2025

It’s a classic. So many famous songs.

25 by Adele
Sep 30 2025

Really good. Hello is a classic.

En-Tact by The Shamen
Oct 01 2025

Pretty good. Hits in England are very different from in the US.

Remedy by Basement Jaxx
Oct 02 2025

Noisy. Industrial. Good stuff.

Reggatta De Blanc by The Police
Oct 06 2025

Incredible album. Love The Police anyway though. Does anyone else feel math rock vibes from some of the drumming? Even if not it’s noticeably badass.

Berlin by Lou Reed
Oct 08 2025

Great album. My fave VU is with Nico, but Lou is pretty great on his own.

Rapture by Anita Baker
Oct 09 2025

Not my taste but she’s talented. The opening instrumental part is a famous sample by MF DOOM

Suzanne Vega by Suzanne Vega
Oct 10 2025

Not really my type of music but I still recognize the talent.

Arrival by ABBA
Oct 13 2025

It’s classic.

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan

Excellent. Such a horrible singer lol.

Since I Left You by The Avalanches
Oct 15 2025

One of my fave albums of all time.

The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett
Oct 16 2025

Really good. Didn’t know he had so much variety in his music. Interesting how many bands and musicians played around with exotic or ornate instrumentation.

Protection by Massive Attack
Oct 17 2025

Superb but I like Mezzanine better.

Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper
Oct 22 2025

This is the first time I’ve ever sat down and listened to an Alice Cooper album. I’m impressed!

Horses by Patti Smith
Oct 23 2025

Idk about this one. Not my style.

Street Signs by Ozomatli
Oct 24 2025

Excellent. Again not the album that I recall being super into.

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg
Oct 27 2025

Amazing. Groundbreaking sounds and styles.

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Oct 28 2025

Love it but again not the album I was expecting in the list.

16 Lovers Lane by The Go-Betweens
Oct 29 2025

A bunch of vaguely Irish sounding love songs.

Hypnotised by The Undertones
Oct 30 2025

Just not sure why this was included. It’s not bad but it’s not awesome either.

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Oct 31 2025

Good! Not Pet Sounds though. Surprisingly jangly and twangy.

Sunshine Hit Me by The Bees
Nov 05 2025

Phenomenal album. The UK has a way of promoting these unique bands that end up on the radio or with a Mercury prize.

1984 by Van Halen
Nov 06 2025

Meh. It’s a classic but boring

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Nov 11 2025

Nov 12 2025

I didn’t listen to Hole in the 90’s because I don’t like Courtney Love. Boy did I miss out! This band is amazing!

Ctrl by SZA
Nov 14 2025

Phenomenal

Scott 4 by Scott Walker
Nov 19 2025

Revolver by Beatles
Nov 20 2025

It’s the Beatles! All of their albums are amazing. This is not my favorite though- it only has like 2 awesome songs.

Sea Change by Beck
Nov 21 2025

It’s a good album. Not great though. Wondering what other Beck albums are included in the list.

Be by Common
Nov 24 2025

It’s Common, the best conscious rapper. This is not my favorite album though so wondering what else is included in the list.

Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Dec 01 2025

Not my favorite album of theirs but still really good. They have a distinct sound.

1999 by Prince
Dec 02 2025

So good!

Document by R.E.M.
Dec 04 2025

Excellent. This is the sound of my early 90’s.

Van Halen by Van Halen
Dec 08 2025

Classic 70’s rock

Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout
Dec 10 2025

Not my favorite type of music but they are talented. Very 80’s vibe.

Konnichiwa by Skepta
Dec 11 2025

It’s good but not amazing.

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Dec 12 2025

My first HH album. I’m blown away. I’m jazzed to explore more of his catalog.

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Dec 16 2025

I loved this album. I thought this group was more loud and raucous. Not at all! Some great instrumentals also!

Orbital 2 by Orbital
Dec 17 2025

So precious. It’s crazy how groundbreaking this album was and now it’s boring.

Music Has The Right To Children by Boards of Canada
Dec 18 2025

I think this album was probably heralded for its creative use of vocals - sampling, chopping, looping - but I found it pretty annoying.

xx by The xx
Dec 22 2025

Love it! Classic!

Blackstar by David Bowie
Dec 23 2025

Why are all his albums listed? They aren’t all that good tbh

Groovy

One of my favorite instrumental albums of all time

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Feb 17 2026

I don’t think this one got 5 mics but it’s 90’s hip hop at its best. Sample heavy, stupid skits, lots of guests. RIP Trugoy.

G. Love And Special Sauce by G. Love & Special Sauce
Feb 18 2026

Another “not my favorite by this artist” that’s still really good

Shadowland by k.d. lang

More like KD Lame

Solid Air by John Martyn
Feb 20 2026

Hmmm confused about the inclusion of this one. It’s not bad but not good either.

The Scream by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Apr 10 2026

Apr 16 2026

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead

This band should definitely have all albums included!

Funeral by Arcade Fire

Very by Pet Shop Boys
May 07 2026

Meh

Let's Get Killed by David Holmes
May 20 2026

Never heard of this guy but the album is pretty good. Seems that whoever put this list together not only likes to include all albums by stellar artists/bands, but also a ton of relatively unknown Irish music.

Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes
May 21 2026

Also really good. My doorbell is one of my favorites

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
May 22 2026

Some of the vocal acrobatics are silly

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
May 26 2026

My mama loved The Stones and went to a show in the 90’s. I have always appreciated them, but felt that The Beatles were so much better that listening to The Stones was a waste of time. I was wrong. This album is phenomenal. Great classics here.

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
May 27 2026

1st song starts off like 60’s Beatles-influenced rock then becomes distinctly 70’s soft rock. The rest of the album is like “The Beatles, part 2” but missing a key ingredient

Metal Box by Public Image Ltd.
May 29 2026

It’s post punk and classic but not for me

Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson
Jun 02 2026

I enjoyed this album. There is a strange similarity within these songs that also reminds me of other Willie songs.

Cupid & Psyche 85 by Scritti Politti
Jun 03 2026

It’s very 80’s. Synth pop with reggae influences to make white boy R&B. I didn’t dislike it but would never listen to this album otherwise.

Mama's Gun by Erykah Badu
Jun 04 2026

A phenomenal album

Modern Kosmology by Jane Weaver
Jun 05 2026

I liked it. I had never heard of her before.

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka

I already really liked him from his previous albums. This one put me over the top and I’ll say he’s one of my top artists atm.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Jun 09 2026

I liked this album even though this is not my preferred genre. The singer is a bit of a one trick pony though.

Bubble And Scrape by Sebadoh
Jun 11 2026

I listened to them in the 90’s. Not missing them now.

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
Jun 12 2026

Not my favorite of their albums but very good. The cover of I heard it through the grapevine is so subdued. Weird.

Moving Pictures by Rush
Jun 16 2026

I don’t really like Rush and had never listened to an album in its entirety before. I’m glad I listened but that was enough for me. Best thing about the band truly is the drummer.

The Doors by The Doors
Jun 22 2026

I love The Doors. Morrison has this weird Sinatra thing with his vocals.

Jun 23 2026

This album is classic. It was groundbreaking and subversive. The older I get, the more obvious it becomes that Ice Cube wrote most of the lyrics for all of the songs.

World Clique by Deee-Lite
Jun 24 2026

Very fun music. Not redeeming or life-changing, but it does make you feel good and want to dance.

Bongo Rock by Incredible Bongo Band
Jun 25 2026

What a great album! You can hear so many of these drum beats in hip hop

Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye

Lighthearted and fun!

Grievous Angel by Gram Parsons
Jul 02 2026

It’s country. It rocks.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Jul 03 2026

I never understood the difference between Parliament and Funkadelic until now. Pretty cool history. Also parts of this album have been heavily sampled by hip hop, which makes it familiar and cool.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Jul 07 2026

I wasn’t that impressed by this album. Many of the songs are similar and one is all about how she got drunk and purposefully cheated on her partner, but it’s ok because it’s Amy Winehouse. Gimme a break dude.

Nevermind by Nirvana
Jul 08 2026

Still an amazing album. TBH though- in the 90’s I was much more into Pearl Jam than Nirvana.

Music From The Penguin Cafe by Penguin Cafe Orchestra
Jul 09 2026

I enjoyed this album. Definitely an eclectic choice but very good nonetheless. Mostly instrumental.

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Jul 13 2026

The British Invasion of the 90’s. Some of these tracks could have been by oasis or blur. That being said, the opening track is amazing and stands the test of time

Eliminator by ZZ Top
Jul 20 2026

It’s 80’s rock. Pretty standard stuff.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Jul 21 2026

This album is awesome. It’s really quite timeless and idk how I didn’t know this artist before!

Here, My Dear by Marvin Gaye
Jul 23 2026

Not every album by amazing artists should be included.

Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jul 27 2026

It’s good! These guys have so many well-known songs.

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Jul 28 2026

I have no clue who this is or what this venue was, but it’s a delightful album. I don’t even love jazz with vocals but her voice is phenomenal.

Le Tigre by Le Tigre
Jul 29 2026

It’s ok. Not sure why it was included

Low-Life by New Order
Jul 30 2026

Very 80’s. Some of it sounds like The Cure. Lots of synths

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Jul 31 2026

Im not a huge stones fan but my mama is so I listened and it’s a great album!

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Aug 04 2026

I was so into them when this album came out. It’s still saved in my iTunes (Apple Music lol)

Teenager Of The Year by Frank Black
Aug 06 2026

Not sure why this was included, other than his time in The Pixies, but it’s pretty good. Decent amount of variety on this album but doubtful I would listen to it again.

Ready To Die by The Notorious B.I.G.
Aug 07 2026

It’s a classic

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Aug 10 2026

I just love the Beatles.

Album origins are grouped into three buckets: US, UK, and everything else. “Other” means the artists you rate highest are from outside the US and UK.
