Billy Bragg
5/5
Loved it, a bit odd for this list, but the album sounds great and the lyrics were awesome.

Pretty jazzy jazz!
Van Halen
3/5
Easy to listen to, I'd call this album pure fluff, like eating marshmallow fluff with the Michelin man on a white cloud, nothing to think about or get deep into. I don't find anything philosophical about "Jump" or "Hot for Teacher", but take it for what it is, easy listening rock music.
Beck
3/5
Not my favorite from Beck, was a bit too slow and low-key, I need at least a couple of upbeat songs to keep me in it!
AC/DC
4/5
Well that was AC/DC, they have a sound and they stuck to it for all 10 songs, good job guys
Bob Marley & The Wailers
5/5
Bob Marley is the best, always a 5, forever
Air

Not the best French electro pop album I’ve ever heard but pretty close, plus major nostalgia points for me having heard this album many times as a youth.

Jeff Buckley

Good album, not great would rate a 3 but with hallelujah on the album as one of the greatest songs ever recorded it couldn’t be less than a 4

A truly terrible album where I stopped listening after a few tracks, "the gift" was both bad and disturbing. Why are they famous?

Not what I was expecting from iggy but a pleasant surprise
Antony and the Johnsons
4/5
I really liked this album except for one weird track so I deducted one star, best American chamber pop musical collective album I’ve listened to this year.
Missy Elliott
3/5
Other than the songs I already loved the rest of them were between meh and blech
Count Basie & His Orchestra
4/5
Solid album with a great big band feel throughout, probably a 3 but gets the post-listening to the Velvet Underground bump where I needed to clear my brain from that terrible noise with actual music played by professionals that know how to make coherent music
Curtis Mayfield

Sufjan Stevens

I like the artist, pretty good throughout. Thought the album was 3 stars, the song titles added another star, and one plus three equals four!

I wanted this album to be better, especially with the collaborators, but for the talent on the tracks it was underwhelming. Nothing stood out vocally and the instrumentals were lacking for my tastes.

I'm a fan of the early hip hop, I thought it was a good album, not great. The best song was Milky Cereal, always fun to rediscover a nice track.
Miriam Makeba
4/5
I love to discover new artists and this is one that I liked and was totally new for me.
PJ Harvey
2/5
Not for me, didn't like any of the songs. I listened through to the end just to make sure, and I can confirm it's not my cup of tea.
Parliament
4/5
Loved it, the night of the Thumpasorus Peoples had some weird instrument that threw this off from a 5, but it was a great fun album and could be listened to over and over again. Take out that last song and I could have it on repeat for 6 hours.
Keith Jarrett
5/5
Incredibly enjoyable jazz classical fusion genre, I didn't know the artist before listening but loved the entire performance. Amazing musical talent.
Slayer
1/5
When I see an album and think hmmm... heavy metal, I'm not gonna like this, well this is the album I'm talking about. It's got all the screaming that I don't enjoy with the heavy instrumentals that I also don't enjoy. This album made me think that a spider living in my ear laying eggs isn't the worst thing that could happen to the inside of my ears
Sade
4/5
It's easy to listen to this album, it doesn't fit neatly into a genre or decade. Smooth vocals and instrumentals that just melt into the background. I don't think I've intentionally listened to a Sade song before, but it also feels like I've heard every song on the album a hundred times and am not tired of it.
U2
3/5
Just another rock album, I knew the hits already, and when I listen through an entire album I expect to be surprised by a hidden gem that I haven't heard before or just forgot about. This album doesn't have anything like that, just more or the same generic rock sound. Solid album, but not great, and definitely not exceptional.
Solomon Burke
4/5
This album has a definite decade feel to it, I generally like soul (or soul-adjacent) music, so this one hit just right. I liked it but thought it was a little too 50's generic to get a 5, I'd have preferred a 3.5, but we are stuck with the ratings we have, not the ones we want. Today I'm feeling generous and rounding up.
Various Artists
1/5
Not a fan of Christmas music, but I'll tolerate it for a very small window and when I listened to this album the timing was all off. No thanks
Louis Prima
4/5
Fun album that I assume was popular music for the era it comes from, several songs that I've heard before but never known the artist.
Dinosaur Jr.
1/5
The album started with a couple of songs that I didn't like but was ready to lean into the good elements and hoped that it would improve as the album went on. However, that was not to pass, instead, it devolved into incoherent screaming by the end, I did not like this album.
Duke Ellington
3/5
I'm usually a fan of the genre, and it's nice to listen to something other than bad rock music, but sadly this just didn't do it for me. The version I listened to had way too many interruptions and while the volume of tracks was impressive, I would have liked a pared-down album with just the jazziest jazz. As far as Dukes go, this is more like Marmaduke, you listen to it because it exists, and not because you really, really want to. I was hoping more for the 1992 Duke Men's Basketball team, really good but also exciting and has you on the edge of your seat not knowing when the music will finally stop.
Michael Jackson
1/5
The music is good, I didn't care for the Paul McCartney Duet, bad and a little creepy, but the rest is solid. Too bad it's Michael Jackson and he will never earn anything other than a 0 for being a bad person. The album will be a 1 because I can't go any lower.
Jimi Hendrix
3/5
I liked this album, but for the mystique surrounding all things Hendrix I was expecting to love it. Especially with Jimi as a local legend and fellow GHS alumni, I assumed it was going to be the greatest album of all time and it was merely good.
Rush
4/5
First time listening to rush, it tickled my eardrums in just the right way
Ministry
1/5
Definitely not my type of music
Barry Adamson
3/5
I haven't heard of this artist before, but turned into a fun musical journey
Dire Straits
5/5
I've been listening to this album for a while, first on a cassette tape in the car, then on CD in the car, then on an iPod in the car, and now steaming in the car, and it never disappoints. Excellent throughout.
The Killers
4/5
Aimee Mann
3/5
Just one those middling albums, nothing wrong with it but nothing awesome either, it’s telling when the artist changes on Spotify and I don’t notice for at least 3 songs that it wasn’t going to stick out as great or terrible.
Sigur Rós
3/5
I really liked how this started and that it is something unique and haunting and definitely weird, but it was too much of the same on repeat. I needed something different peppered in to give it a great review, as it is I liked it well enough but left me wanting more.
Tricky
3/5
I really liked one song on here and the rest were not anything spectacular, I listened through once, but that was enough for my lifetime.
Supertramp
4/5
I thought supertramp was going to be a one trick pony band, a super awesome 80s synth pony with laser eyes riding a rainbow, but one trick. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety I found and enjoyed it throughout.
3/5
Wilco
3/5
Rod Stewart
4/5
Love you Rod, this wasn't the best of your albums and could have used some more rodalicous tracks, but overall a great effort.
The Lemonheads
3/5
Didn't know anything about them before listening, so they didn't disappoint, but also didn't blow me away, really middle of the road for me.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Excellent album from start to end, I was listening on a plane and made me completely forget about my impending death from falling out of the sky!!!!
Marvin Gaye
5/5
Absolute masterpiece, not a bad song on here and reminded me of how amazing of an artist he was, will be on the rotation in my life for years to come
Elvis Costello
4/5
I've always liked the funkiness of Elvis Costello, unique sound and fun to listen to, but also not my favorite album, solid not spectacular
Van Morrison
4/5
I thought this was going to be a slam dunk 5 star review because of my Van Morrison love, but this one was good but didn't grab me the way his albums usually do. Maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age to not give 5 stars for a great album...
David Bowie
5/5
I just like Bowie, so 5 seems right
The White Stripes
4/5
Not usually my kind of music, but I like the tracks on this one.
Pixies
3/5
Way better than the last pixies album, and good enough to be called average!
The Flaming Lips
3/5
I listened to this a couple weeks ago and wasn’t memorable enough to rate high or low, I can confirm it exists, but nothing else when I search my memory banks.
Anthrax
3/5
Not my jam but a plus one for the listening experience with the legendary hammer fist!
Jane's Addiction
2/5
One song a recognized, the rest were ok.
Pixies
2/5
Not good
Joni Mitchell
3/5
A new listen for me, I thought I had heard lots of songs from her before but I didn’t recognize any of them on this album. Usually a big name artist has some new fun tracks to enjoy, but it didn’t grab me the way I was expecting.
Anita Baker
4/5
I thought this was going to be some old Jazz album; it was short but sweet.
The Fall
3/5
Sometimes, all you need is one word for an album. For this album, that word is "Weird"
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
Very Brucey
Gorillaz
4/5
I have heard the album before, and liked all the songs I could remember, but it didn't have any lost gems that would have pushed this to a 5
Beatles
5/5
This is a brilliantly done album. All of the Beatles' albums are pretty spot on. They are truly one of the best bands of all time.
Mylo
5/5
Albums like this are why I enjoy this site, a great listen that was funky and different and enjoyable from beginning to end. Add to that the mystery of not knowing anything about the artist when I started the album, I want all my albums to be just as fun as this one.
Cypress Hill
2/5
I love hip hop, but never felt the vibe with Cypress Hill, might be good for someone, but not for me.
Otis Redding
5/5
Great album, nothing but bangers for the soul
3/5
I listened to this album as background and thought it was pretty good, but a second time through without all the distractions and I wasn't as impressed. Would recommend halfheartedly.
The Allman Brothers Band
4/5
Classic Rock in the most classical sense. They just kept laying on the jam like it was tea time with Queen Victoria, and my ears were crumpets.
Ray Charles
3/5
This was a bit of a different sound than I expected from Ray Charles. Good, but nothing great, and I like the later albums better.
Crowded House
4/5
This was a new band for me and was very pleasantly surprised, it was solid from start to finish.
Moby
5/5
Hey Moby you so fine, you so fine you blow my mind. Hey Moby!
Sex Pistols
3/5
I thought I was going to hate this album and it didn't meet expectations.
Jack White
4/5
I've listened to Jack White before and not understood why he's so highly regarded as an artist, but this album made me think, hmm, I kinda get it.
Girls Against Boys
2/5
I rarely listen to 90s rock music and about halfway through this album I thought, "Hmm, I need a break from 90's music, this has been going on for far to long..."
Billy Bragg
5/5
Loved it, a bit odd for this list, but the album sounds great and the lyrics were awesome.

2/5
This started strong and then was just more of the same, had me voting a solid 3 until a 7 minute meandering duet with dru hill that dropped this down another point to a stinky duece
Mike Ladd
4/5
This was a throwback album for me that brought me back to the early days of hip hop which sounds like poetry instead of over synthesized tracks and indecipherable lyrics. A couple of the tracks were not for me but overall reminded me of a better era in music....
Elis Regina
2/5
Not for me, I usually like world music, but wasn't feeling this one.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
I recognized a few of these tracks, I thought it was pretty good, but nothing surprising or new.
De La Soul
4/5
If this album was just music I would rate it higher. The odd interludes really date it as an early hip-hop album, but it doesn't age well.
Fela Kuti
4/5
This album was amazing until the last track, 16 minute drum solos are not my thing… but the rest of it definitely was. There’s a lot a great beats and a passion from the singer, everything until the last track was fire, then it was a dumpster fire.
The Darkness
4/5
Some bands have a sound, and that’s why you listen to them, well executed album and a unique fun sound, sure made me think… what happened to these guys, probably playing the casino circuit…
Baaba Maal
3/5
I couldn't get into this album. I started listening to it three different times but never got more than a few songs in before my brain found better activities. Then, when I started the album again, I didn't remember any of the tracks that I had listened to in the previous 48 hrs. Not bad, but oh so forgettable.
The Pogues
4/5
I had two main thoughts listening to this album; the first one was, "Oh, this is the band that sings that song that I know, but I don't know why I know that song." The second thought was, "This is Irish Punk music. I hate one genre and like the other, but I really like them combined." Above Average
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
4/5
Good, I thought this was going to be a smash the like button... 5 stars... fire... 100 100 100, but the actual album was just an excellent album, not mind blowing emoji level awesome.
The Zombies
3/5
I thought this would be a bad 80s punk band, and it wasn't. The dread I had on starting the first song quickly dissipated, and by the end of the album I even recognized a couple of songs. Average
Holger Czukay
1/5
There are albums that are weird, and I like their weirdness, which makes for a great album. This album is not one of those. It felt to me like the album was weird because there wasn't the capability to make good music. Not for me
David Bowie
3/5
Bowie, you didn't do your best work on this one. Sorry to say, Average.
Isaac Hayes
3/5
Did OK, not a bad album, but I'd rather listen to all the South Park Chef songs than this album again.
Depeche Mode
4/5
After the end of this album, I wanted more Depeche Mode, something I never thought I would say. Above Average
Buzzcocks
2/5
Not my kind of music, sorry british punk but you are not good, best British punk album I've heard which translates to two stars.
Michael Jackson
1/5
MJ, ew... gross
Grizzly Bear
5/5
It's a great album by a band I've never heard of before. Please, more of this instead of average music from well-known bands! Excellent.
Beach House
5/5
It's a great album by a band I've never heard of before. Please, more of this instead of average music from well-known bands! Excellent.
Jerry Lee Lewis
4/5
I really liked these songs; the live setting was high energy and made it exciting, and the whole thing was 22 minutes. Minus one for Jerry Lee Lewis being a creep.
Elvis Costello
5/5
I have heard most of these songs before, but didn't realize all these good tracks came from one album. IN 1977! Ahead of his time and great album.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Good, not excellent, but so close to excellent. I heard some gritty 70's funk in the album mixed with the regular Stevie Wonder pop vibes. I would have liked it better to lean into one or the other; it left me a little wanting by the end.
Roxy Music
3/5
This album is not spectacular, just average old rock, album art +1.
Leonard Cohen
5/5
Simple album, but very well done. I'm glad I listened to this album all the way through.
The Temptations
4/5
I like the genre, and The Temptations was a hugely successful funk and R&B act in its heyday. While I liked the album, I did not love it...
Sonic Youth
1/5
Nope, just no, absolutely not, never. After the first song, I thought this could get better and raise the rating I was going to give, but it didn't; it got worse.
Ryan Adams
3/5
This album had more country vibes than expected. I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't blown away either. Average
Pixies
2/5
Hated the start of this album, then o
It got better, then really bad, then a little better, one song topped out at a 3, the rest were much below that. Not for me. Below average.
George Harrison
3/5
After 30 minutes I thought this is good, I’ll give it a high rating, after 2 hrs of the same thing I decided to lower that a point. It was a good album that was waaaaaaaaaaay to long.
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
I was excited to see this on my album list, and it delivered, 4.5 stars! But I’m rounding down because I’m mean.
Scott Walker
3/5
Not what I expected from an artist I’d never heard before and was judging solely on the album cover. I was expecting either something exciting and jazzy, or maybe weird and eclectic, I felt like I got banality.
Thin Lizzy
4/5
21 minutes and 4 tracks and I already knew I was going to like one of the songs, plus one for succinctness and doing it live.
Peter Gabriel
3/5
Not a bad album to listen to in the car on the way to pick up someone from the airport. But once I got to the end, that was enough, no need to hear it again.
Queen
5/5
Loved it, I got to listen to some new Queen tracks that have been there all along, but not to my ears. This was an album that sounded like they loved experimenting in music, and just found the right way to be different.
Curtis Mayfield
5/5
Really liked this, what a great soundtrack for a movie that captures an era.
Earth, Wind & Fire
5/5
Well done album, they have a great sound and was happy listening to each and every track.
Beth Orton
2/5
I liked the music in the background, but I didn't love her singing voice. It's not bad, but it's just not something I would intentionally listen to again.
King Crimson
3/5
The 1970s were a weird time.
Radiohead
3/5
Seemed fine to me
The Band
3/5
This is a solid album that is pretty typical for this list, I enjoyed it but didn't stand out as either great or bad.
Steely Dan
3/5
Just as I expected, it met expectations.
The Modern Lovers
3/5
Kid Rock
2/5
I truly can't believe the number of Kid Rock songs that I know. It doesn't make them any better, but it tells me a lot about my youth...
Blur
3/5
I listened to this a few day ago and can't remember a single thing about the album, I'm not sure I can give it a review other than it existed. So I guess that makes it a 3
Hugh Masekela
3/5
Average Jazz, something noce a new to liten to but didn't add anything to the genre. Well executed
Little Richard
4/5
A lot of the same sound, just a different woman he's singing about. Little Richard's Little Richard has some stories to tell!
Supergrass
3/5
A british rock band that I hadn't heard of before and will promptly forget, this list has lot's of albums like this. All I can say is that I heard some music.
The Mamas & The Papas
5/5
Really nice album, I enjoyed the songs and can see why they were popular. Maybe it's just a comparison of the other things that I've heard recently, but this was a breath of fresh air!
David Bowie
3/5
Good album, not sure if I’m giving it rating because it’s what I really think about it because of the history of Bowie.
Jurassic 5
5/5
Excellent album that had a great sound and reminded me of some great times as a teenager.
Brian Eno
5/5
Listened to this on a very turbulent flight. It was very calming.
New Order
4/5
Fun and very acidy
The Byrds
4/5
No problems here
Michael Kiwanuka
3/5
Not bad
Rush
4/5
Nice drums! Pretty good album, but when spotify switched to a new artist and I didn't notice then I had to deduct one star!
The Blue Nile
3/5
Nothing memorable about this in a good or bad way, it was a pretty standard pop/rock album
Elvis Presley
3/5
I was expecting better, I realize this is the very early stuff, and was probably groundbreaking at the time, but it really underwhelmed.
The Cramps
1/5
I'm not sure why this album was made; it's got a monsters and aliens theme with a punk rock sound. Nothing about any of those things appeals to me. On the plus side, the songs were all short; on the downside, there were a lot of them.
Harry Nilsson
5/5
This is my favorite album so far, from the first track, where I Gotta Get Up, to the Without You banger and then another one in Spanish! This was a pleasure throughout the album, and it's even got that coconut song. I put this album into my regular listening rotation, and I had no idea who Harry Nilsson was before starting this album. This album experience reminded me of watching a movie, hearing a song I like, and then discovering they were all by Harry Nilsson. I rate this 6.5 coconuts out of 5, but 5 stars will have to suffice.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
5/5
Brings me back to my youth, enjoyed this album a lot, they have a fun sound and could listen on repeat.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
3/5
It was missing something, I think maybe it was Neil Young... yeah that was it.
Iggy Pop
3/5
Every iggy pop album I've listened to on this thing I've prepped myself for music that I don't like. And yet each time I end up with the review "not bad, better than expected"
The Byrds
4/5
Pretty good, experimental album that took some risks that hit, and some that didn't (moog machine, I'm talking about you!) but overall a good listen. I'm pretending that whatever that ending track was doesn't exist and is merely a fragment of my imagination so that I can justify a 4.
The Smiths
3/5
I've never intentionally listened to a Smiths song before, and now I won't actively avoid them.
The Who
3/5
It's not my favorite Who album, but you can see the beginnings of the band and what they would become. It was an easy album to listen to.
The Doors
4/5
This was a more bluesy version of the band that I really dug, I liked the album
Pet Shop Boys
2/5
I got bored of these songs after about 3 of them, just to much of the same.
Astor Piazzolla
4/5
I didn't love the album, and I didn't dislike anything about it. However, I wanted to keep listening to every track just because I wanted to know where each song was going. It's an odd Jazz/Classical/Folk fusion album and a unique listening experience
The Smiths
2/5
Not into it, this is the second Smith's album and it's not bad, but nothing great or interesting about it.
3/5
U2 is a good band, and it has a well put-together album. I understand why they have sold so many albums, but for all of that, I only kinda like the music, and I don't really like it.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
1/5
This album lost me on the first track, which was 20 minutes of strange music in a way that I didn't like, it never recovered.
Dr. John
3/5
This was a wierd album I listened to a few times where some of the tracks I liked better the more I listened and some I liked less
My Bloody Valentine
2/5
Not really good music for my tastes
The Clash
1/5
As expected, I didn't like it.
Radiohead
3/5
I never got into radiohead the way that people who like radiohead REALLY LIKE RADIOHEAD, but it wasn't a bad album.
Pink Floyd
5/5
I really like it
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
4/5
This one was all over the place for me, some tracks really dug and others not so much, but overall better than average.
Machito
4/5
A good albym to listen to once, but not going to make it into my regular rotation.
Marty Robbins
3/5
The album title says it all, and it sticks to that theme, it could have had 3 songs and I would have gotten the idea. Not bad, but not something I like listening to for more than 10 minutes.
Al Green
5/5
One of the best albums of all time
Throwing Muses
2/5
I really didn't like that the link to spotify didn't work, so it made me not like the music quite as much.
Garbage
2/5
While I didn't like this music, I thought it was going to be a lot worse. There are a lot of garbage metaphors that need not be written, just knowing they exist is enough for me.
The Damned
2/5
I almost gave up after the first 2 songs and rated this a 1, but there was moderate improvement throughout the album to turn it from unlistenable to barely tolerable.
Jorge Ben Jor
4/5
A welcome change from the last few albums that I listened to on this list. Above average
Calexico
3/5
Average, album was a bit too long, songs were ok but nothing outstanding.
TV On The Radio
2/5
Wasn't my kind of jam, felt like a hippy funk vibe that went to a dark place, and wasn't fun music listening, but uneasy listening.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
5/5
What a breath of fresh air from the crap that has been on this list. This album sound is a group of people who are capable of playing instruments and singing in a way that is pleasant to listen to.
Britney Spears
4/5
This album is repetitive and boring and I started to lose interest about 4 songs in. But at least the album sounds good, which is more that I can say about a lot of the things I listen to on this list.
Paul McCartney and Wings
4/5
I liked it, some nice songs that I recognized and enjoyable to listen throughout.
Depeche Mode
3/5
A bit dark and melancholy for my taste, but the production and sound are solid.
The Birthday Party
1/5
Probablt the worst album I've ever listened to. Why does something that sounds this bad make a list of albums to listen to is beyond me, negative 5 stars, maybe negative 6.
Lorde
3/5
Very Lorde-like, not bad, would listen again.
fIREHOSE
2/5
Listened through twice, nothing stood out as good or bad, all I can say confidently is that this album definitely exists.
The Black Crowes
3/5
Pretty standard rock album, I liked it. Not my favorite genre so it's not gonna get high marks, but did well enough for a 3-star rating.
Deerhunter
3/5
This album very much sounds like early 21st-century alt-rock. It's got a vibe to it that I don't love, but I could put it on for a sad birthday party, and it would be perfect. Production is good, just not really what I'm looking for in my musical rotation.
Prefab Sprout
3/5
This is my first Prefab Sprout album, and it was decent to listen to. None of these tracks blew me away, but I heard some sax solos as required by 80s pop music. I might listen again. Average
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
I liked it, it was weird and a bit slow and sad to be great, but overall I thought it was ok. Average
Charles Mingus
4/5
I liked the energy in the album, the first track started off poorly for my ears, but built into something I really enjoyed.
The Velvet Underground
3/5
I was surprised how normal sounding this album was, last track was a bit strange, but this was standard music for the year, I expected something different and I can’t tell if what I got was better or worse than expected, I’m going to say this is average.
Ravi Shankar
4/5
I liked the explanations of the music theory, and it was fine to listen to, but I got bored after the second track. I guess I have a terrible attention span, but I gave it an extra star because it was great to have world music on the scene when this album debuted.
4/5
Generally good album, sounds a lot like British pop from the late 60s.
Scott Walker
2/5
The positives on this album are that it's like nothing else I've heard before, his voice is clear and on key, and the instrumentals are solid. The negatives are how bad the lyrics are and the songs are out of place in any genre, which would usually be a positive for me, but not this time. Wouldn't listen again.
Simon & Garfunkel
5/5
I've always enjoyed this duo, so probably going to inflate this score, but I like the Mrs. Robinson track enough to give this a good score. Would listen again many times.
Thelonious Monk
3/5
I liked this album, a few jazz essentials that I recognized and was glad to hear after a long time not listening to anything jazz that wasn't on the big or small screen. Would listen again, but only after a few years.
Lou Reed
3/5
Unique album and I liked most of the songs, but the ones with kids crying just gave me the icks, so minus one star. Would listen again, but only after a few years.
Incubus
4/5
Sounds like Incubus, I don't love the genre, but I'll give this a listen every once in a while, but not heavy rotation.
Jean-Michel Jarre
4/5
Old timey electronic background music, I could have this playing on a loop for 10 hours and maybe not notice that it was repeating. Very excellent music for the genre, but nothing about it gives it an excellent review.
The Offspring
3/5
If I liked this kind of music, I'd rate it higher, just not my jam, but I can at least understand why some people would like to listen to this music. I just happen to be the person who does not want to listen to it more than once every few years.
OutKast
5/5
One of my favorite albums of all time, great songs and genre bending in a way that brings a lot of cool sounds to the masses, masquerading as a popular Hip Hop Album. Even the interludes are top-notch compared to others released around this time. More albums like this, less crappy boring British pop rock and punk. Would give more than 5 stars if possible.
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
4/5
The album was nice, not awesome, but it was the beginning of a musical genre and kept the funk roots of the predecessors that this was built on. I thought it was average and would listen again, but not in the regular rotation. I give it a bonus start for the historical nature of the album.
The Only Ones
2/5
Why another album that sounds exactly like 20 other ones I've listened to on this list. Boring music that doesn't sound good shouldn't be on a list of 1,001 albums to listen to. Would not listen again, yuck.
The Gun Club
1/5
Chalk up another punkish rock album getting a low review. Who knew there were so many of these terrible bands throughout the 70s and 80s? When Spotify ended the album and autoplayed the next song I knew it immediately because the Spotify selection didn't completely suck.
Dolly Parton
4/5
Everything about this album was well done and as good as could be expected for this genre. Highest marks for a sound that I don't like to hear a lot.
Derek & The Dominos
4/5
Some really great songs on this album, but also some rambling nonsense. Overall, I'd listen again, but it's not an everyday listening album.
Fleetwood Mac
4/5
Some really great songs on this album, but also some rambling nonsense. Overall, I'd listen again, but it's not an everyday listening album.
The Mothers Of Invention
2/5
I understand what they're trying to achieve with the album: social commentary on contemporary pop music using subversive and interesting lyrics. Glad I heard it once, don't need to again.
Lauryn Hill
5/5
A wonderfully crafted album that really speaks to a specific time and place, and it was groundbreaking for the genre when it came out. Would listen any time and any place
Nine Inch Nails
1/5
Other than the 2 songs I've heard before, avoid at all costs! Would never listen to again.
Talking Heads
3/5
I listened to this a few days ago and can't remember a single thing about the album. I couldn't have told you which songs I liked or disliked—classic three-star album review for me.
Janelle Monáe
5/5
I listened to this a few days ago and really liked the whole album. This was a pleasure to listen to and will put it in my listening rotation.
Boston
4/5
A classic rock album featuring some great headbangers. It was a short listening experience, but if you don't have another good song to add to an album, just keep it short and sweet. Would listen again.
Dead Kennedys
1/5
Hard Pass, can't believe I made it through this garbage. I must have been feeling masochistic that day. Will never listen again.
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
I loved the few popular and well-known songs on the album, but thought the rest were ok. I was disappointed that I didn't unearth some rare gems that I hadn't heard before, but some albums have only a couple of good tracks and a lot of filler. Would listen again, but probably not for a while.
Metallica
2/5
One Metallica song is nice to listen to. Three songs are my max. An hour is too much for my liking. It was Metallica, as expected.
Eminem
4/5
It''s a great album, very dark, but still holds up. I don't know if anyone would make an album like this today but I enjoyed listening. Would listen again
George Jones
4/5
Didn't know who this was until I listened, I liked the album, sad dude, but good at music. Probably highest possible rating for country music in my world. Would listen again at some point.
Fats Domino
3/5
Enjoyable, very old-school, and lacks production value in today's music, but not a bad listen. Would listen again, but not for a while.
The Stooges
2/5
Thought I would hate it and I didn't, but I also didn't like it. Probably not listen again, but wouldn't immediately turn it off it it came on,
Kate Bush
3/5
Not a bad album, but I felt it was too repetitive for my liking, and I could only listen to a few tracks before I wanted to stop. Would listen again, but not for a while.
The Divine Comedy
1/5
Dumb album, would never listen again.
Caetano Veloso
2/5
This is an album of a certain era, interesting to listen to, but not going to be in my regular rotation.
The Mothers Of Invention
2/5
Sounds like a bunch of people doing a lot of drugs decided to hit record in a studio and see what happens. If I took the same amount of drugs, I'd probably give this five stars, but it's not going to get a rave review in my unaltered state.
AC/DC
4/5
AC/DC, yup, this is them, exactly what I'd expect.
Nirvana
3/5
Everyone tells me I have to love Nirvana, I'm from Seattle, grew up in the Grunge Era, and many more reasons. But... I don't, there are a couple of good songs on this album, but overall, more bad tracks than good ones. I listened to this album a lot as a young person and never understood why I wasn't getting it, why this album is life-changing. Spoiler, it's because this album isn't good to listen to.
5/5
Incredible album from front to back, great songs, and well-paced. Nothing bad to say about this one.
The Adverts
3/5
ALERT... ALERT.. It's my highest rating ever for a punk rock album; it wasn't terrible. That is all.
Arcade Fire
5/5
First time listening through the album, thought it was excellent and would listen again.
Beck
5/5
Awesome album, all great songs, except one, but I won't tell you which one I didn't like, it's an easter egg of mediocrity, but the rest is 5-star awesome!
Jethro Tull
4/5
Nice classic rock album, excellent flauting, would listen again.
Arcade Fire
4/5
Not as good as the other Arcade Fire Album from three albums ago, it started strong and ended strong, but I lost one star in the middle of the album and didn't ever find it again.
Tim Buckley
3/5
I'd never listened to this artist before. Now I can say that I have.
Digital Underground
3/5
This album was a bit of a surprise, I knew two songs prior to listening front to back, and they were my least favorite on the album. It was a better album than I expected going into it.
Bob Dylan
5/5
Great album from one of the greatest musical artists of all time, no missteps here. Six Stars
Public Enemy
2/5
I'm a big hip hop fan, but these guys just don't do it for me. Not interested in listening again.
Public Enemy
2/5
I'm a big hip hop fan, but these guys just don't do it for me. Not interested in listening again.
Isaac Hayes
3/5
I liked the music, but break up that last 20 minute track, way too meandering and took away from the album as a whole.
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
3/5
It's the blues, overall a technically sound album, a bit repetitive for me but not bad.
Yes
3/5
I was halfway through the second listen of this album before I realized that I was listening to the same songs. Pretty unremarkable but nice to listen to.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
Love this music, but this isn’t the best of them, would listen again but not on repeat.
Throbbing Gristle
1/5
This album is terrible, I feel dumber and less cultured having listened to all of this album. I recommend you listen to no more than one minute of this album and preserve your brain for anything else. I give this zero stars.
Mudhoney
2/5
It's alright, I didn't love the Spotify album version, which was the same songs repeating until it came in at a brisk 2 hours and 15 minutes of listening. Grunge ain't my jam. Jam is my Jam.
5/5
Loved this album, there is a lot of variety to the sound and the music is great.
Prince
4/5
I don't get Prince. I hear how much of a musical genius he is, but when I listen to his music, I just don't hear it. Some great tracks, some whatever tracks. It's a good album, but not "genius musician" good.
ZZ Top
4/5
Enjoyable album, familiar sound and easy listening. Would listen again.
Cowboy Junkies
4/5
New artist for me, but the sound was good, new and interesting music, but a little slow for 5 stars. Great for background music.
Metallica
4/5
Metal that isn't bad sounding, Metallica is definitely growing on me.
Fairport Convention
3/5
Odd album, feels like they are going to a medieval or Renaissance Fair sound. Works for a while, but then gets a bit tedious.
ABBA
4/5
Fun album, abba zabba you my only friend.
John Lennon
4/5
One great song, some other good ones, balancing things out to a solid 4
Pet Shop Boys
4/5
Listened to this one a couple of times, and it really grew on me. Plus, the kids didn't yell to turn it off immediately because it sounds like... I dunno... music? Definitely listen again.
Björk
2/5
Exactly what I thought it was going to be, one listen is enough for my ears.
Raekwon
3/5
I like this kind of music, must be my upbringing, while it's not the best example of the genre, it's not terrible.
John Coltrane
3/5
Got exactly what I wanted, good album.
Coldplay
5/5
I think this is an excellent album, also one of the CD's I had in my car during the 20th century, so I've heard it all before and I still like it!
Madness
2/5
I listened to this album a week ago and I remember nothing about it, probably would have the same reaction if I listened to it 30 minutes ago.
The Who
3/5
I'd listen to maybe 2 songs on this album again, and pass on the rest.
James Taylor
4/5
I love james taylor, so probably a higher rating than the album acutally deserves, but I'd definitely listen again.
Fiona Apple
3/5
The 90s were a weird time for music.
Violent Femmes
3/5
I waffled between liking and hating this album, definitely liked the first song and then my emotions were all over the place.
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
This artist is so very average, and I don't get why there is such a die hard following, but more power to you Bruce, just never gonna get it for my ears.
The Everly Brothers
3/5
Very old-timey music, pretty good for something that my grandma would have lost her panties for.
Stevie Wonder
3/5
If I didn't know the artist as well, I'd have rated higher, but it was a bit of a disappointment for me compared to his other music.
Deep Purple
4/5
I really liked this album; it's a classic rock album that, for some reason, I found particularly enjoyable.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Loved this album, but the last track on each "side" was a bit too rambling to give a perfect score, I'd rate it 4.5 stars, but life is unfair so I'm rounding down.
Dire Straits
5/5
Would listen daily to Dire Straits, just gives me warm and fuzzies.
X-Ray Spex
2/5
Not for me, the sound was on the fence between punk and a more classic rock sound and a little far to the puck side for my ears.
System Of A Down
1/5
In my humble opinion, this music is shit.
The Band
4/5
I like the bands sound, so I probably rate it higher than deserves, but I enjoyed it, got a bit repetitive, but I'd be happy to listen again.
Elvis Presley
4/5
Good Album, in the ghetto is one of my faves, so 4 stars.
Kings of Leon
3/5
Pretty good rock album, although not as polished as their later stuff, I liked it enough to listen again in a couple years.
Marvin Gaye
4/5
Not my fav of his albums, but still a good listen.
Orbital
4/5
I thouroughly enjoyed something completely different from the usual types of albums on this list, if you take away the first and last tracks it would get 5 stars, but with those two I gotta take away one star.
The Specials
3/5
The music was not what I expected based on the album art, but I liked the ska vibes, but only would listen again to 2-3 tracks on the album
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Good album, I hear the blues throughout and that's neither a good nor a bad thing, it's just a thing that I felt like sharing.
Small Faces
4/5
This was a bit weird, but I liked the music, and bonus points for seeming like they had a great time making this album. Great album name.
The Byrds
3/5
Decent album, but the best song on there will always be a Dylan song for me.
Frank Zappa
4/5
I was prepared for Mother of Invention level of wierdness but it was just a generally well put together effort.
The Velvet Underground
3/5
I listed to this album a lot many moons ago but not for a while and was glad to hear it again, but it can go back in the vault again.
Aretha Franklin
5/5
This was an awesome album all the way through, really soulful and will put this in regular rotation.
The Waterboys
3/5
Pretty interesting tunes, not something I’ve dabbled in before, but average on the star scale.
Eagles
4/5
Not the best eagles album, but a solid one, I know you’ll do better when I get to hotel California
Malcolm McLaren
3/5
I went back and forth between love and hate on this one, so I’ll average it out to a 3. It had cool weird music and not cool weird music, but it was an adventure!
Blondie
3/5
I knew a couple songs, don’t know more. The ones I knew were the good ones and the rest not so much.
Eagles
5/5
Great album front to back, no complaints.
Mudhoney
2/5
I only listened to half of this one before my spouse told me to turn off that racket! But then I realized i didn’t really need to listen anymore either.
The Doors
5/5
Liked it a lot, but since it has my favorite doors song included I’m giving it a five without much pontification.
