this is a strangely enigmatic and fascinating album. i couldn't stop listening to it, although singer/songwriter stuff is usually not my angle.

must have been one helluva innovative album in the 70ies. can't help but think it fells quite shallow nowadays.

ah the cozy days of the mid nineties when techno-fascism was still a far-off dystopia we read about in books and watched in movie theaters. love it.

fascinating vivid ambient soundscapes. one of those albums i wouldn't have guessed that i would enjoy it that much. one of the tracks reminds me of UT's "Facing Worlds" soundtrack.

while the instrumentalization starts out interesting, this quickly turns into a dumpster fire of a series of boring rock ballad after boring rock ballad.

i agree with the spotify minority that on this album, "Breakdown" is the real pearl while "American Girl" just has a catchy name, guhhhh. straightforward, enjoyable and reduce classic rock.

it's cheesy and all and I don't like cheesy. but it has a remarkable quality and a tremendous recognition value!

love how the different influences originating from this band/album are palpable in several bands i know (contemporary and older ones). at times it feels like Mars Volta, there's pink floyd in it, Porcupine Tree, Opeth and a myriad other flavours. i could go on and on! still it feels original, because certainly it is - the origin, a cornerstone of prog rock!

one of the few heavily positive toned albums i like. it feels goofy, honest, energetic.. and what a steam train of ideas! also: sting's voice, it's just otherworldly!

while i like its dadaistic nature, the album is just not that appealing to me as it is the music equivalent of a plastic table compared to a metal and wood design.

ok, did the usual approach with reggae: 1. listen to a couple songs. 2. stop. 3. never think about it again. the usual votum: good music for smoking weed, rubbish for anything else.

the initial electrifying pressing and raw flashyness of the record loses itself halfway through the album giving way to a more pulsating and flowy experience. for me, that's something i enjoy listening to in a club setting but not as an album. still, it's a refreshing listen that i've enjoyed more and more with every playthrough
