6/10 Not my favorite band, and in hindsight the singles are the only thing I like on this album. I don't hate it. 2-21-2024

7/10 White Winter Hymnal is amazing. in a less than generous word: twee. The distortion is the same in every song. I like it, all of it. It soars when it works, and when it doesn't, it is still a warm sweater of an album. The songs belong in as many indie films as they can fit in. 2-22-2024

8/10 I'm completely biased. Chicago is one of my favorite songs of all time. I listen to it often and still get frission every time I hear it. The only reason this isn't a 10 out of 10 is that the other songs, with the exception of John Wayne Gacy, Jr., are just good. 4-1-2024

1/10 Holy hell, do I not like this. The rock is ok, but it is done better by those who came before and after. The slow country and ballads are the sleepiest horseshit. There is no passion here, only technique and even that's lacking. In summary, no, sir, I don't like it. 4-4-2024

9/10 This is my first 5 star album. It's so iconic I can't separate it from the miasma of music that is just in my head all the time. That it was this polished and hook filled in 1978 just puts it over the top. Moving in stereo, even without its association with Fast Times, has a tense sense of menace to it that gives me chills. Every other track is either good or flawless. The only reason it isn't a 10/10 is that I'm not compelled to own a physical copy, but it's close. 4-12-2024
