Like this more than deep purple in rock - still not my thing but easier to listen to - would give 2.5 if that was possible
Right up my alley - sad but upbeat sounding songs - would probably give like a 4.6 but we round up!
Lots of hits, a good listen
Lots of genres here - some jams for sure - not sure if I’d reach for this album but I def enjoyed it - would probably give a 3.5 if possible - not adding to my iPod but maybe I would on a second listen
Good just all classics! Gotta get it on vinyl
I was tapping my foot - some good songs for my having music on playlist
Fine- nothing really caught my ear but nothing was bad
Starts slow but then the hits section starts!
Appreciate her voice and get that this is good generally just not something I would put on to jam to just doesn’t speak to me
Would like to give this a 4.5 - good songs but it does sound very 2006 but maybe that is because of my nostalgia too - still good I really like this
Liked this a lot more than I thought I would - doesn’t sound as dated as I thought it might - I enjoyed it and could get into it easily - adding to my iPod
I kept thinking oh the next song I will really like - had a lot of potential to be songs I liked but they just were a little not exactly what I want to jam to - surprising bc I knew nothing about them - on a re listen there may be some songs I come back to - reminded me of fontaines dc a bit
Would give a little less than 3 if possible
Prince can really write/record/perform a bop!!!!! Opening with such a hit really sets the tone of the album - some songs def went on too long - not my favorite prince album at all but doesn’t mean it’s not danceable! He really kinda defies genres too for me - I like the album artwork too
I smiled when this came up today - really love this - not my favorite album by them but it’s up there for sure - to be someone is really up there in the running for one of my favorite songs I think - like English rose more than I thought and I like the album cover too just has a cool
vibe - would give like a 4.9 if possible
Not as catchy as I thought it would be - even the singles didn’t have like a hook or line like I thought they would - not an album I would reach for but get that it probably had a big impact when it came out
Love this album! Really draws you in - interesting to listen to and also fun and artistic and catchy ! Deserves to be on this list deserves 5 stars - always something new to hear on a relisten
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would - def some grooves and catchy parts. Was a bit long and some songs felt kind of similar but I enjoyed my listen not sure if I’d reach for it again - somewhere between a 3 and 4 but I’m rounding up to 4 bc it’s better than some albums I’ve given a 3
This album is exactly why I’m happy I’m doing this project - totally something I like that I have somehow missed listening to all these years. Added to my iPod. Really good album does sound slightly dated at times but still so listenable today - somewhere between a 4 and 5 for sure - catchy jammable sounds like walking in the city at night
Day two of this project having me discover something I like !!!!!!! I was already a little predisposed to / had listened to Congolese music and really liked it, and this has the elements of it that I like - it does have a little more 80s/90s dated production in some cases but not overall dated just moments - adding to my iPod I will return to this. Really do not understand the harsh musical critiques of this in other people’s reviews - it’s upbeat and fun !!
I really like this - very unique you don’t hear many albums like this! Very ethereal - I can’t see myself coming back to the second half of this album but I like the first half - a little more then a 4 for me like 4.3 - I really liked big sky
Can’t say I’ll be coming back to this - the music itself is fine to good and I’m not one to critique singing but this just does not hit with me or generally - not something I’ll be turning on again - but not painful to listen to (except the song day old blues sorry) - probably not deserving of being on this list - somewhere between a 2 and 3
Not the type of music I reach for but I did enjoy this more than I thought I would - does kinda sound dated / of its time even though i feel like it’s not that old but I guess it is ha - more funky than I thought there would be - would give this between a 2 and 3 if possible
Much wider range of genres than I thought there would be - songs have a lot of different vibes bc of that. Only listened to original album not any listed bonus tracks listed in later releases. Kinda a silly album in some ways but has some hits and highs and nothing is horrible (I think coconut is a bit too silly for this and is a skip for me but here we are) I liked driving along the most - would probably give like 3.75 but I’ll round up
A classic for a reason! While the songs do sound similar that seems to be part of the point and vibe of the album - easy to listen to and has a lot of passion/character behind it which I think is what I look for in music
I thought I would like this more but maybe I’ll have to listen again, I can see it growing on me. I liked car song, all nighter, Indian song, others were forgettable - between a 3 and 4 - I’ll come back to some songs but not others
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would! I liked side two more than side one - ripple was a highlight! A high 3 rounded up to four
Side one would be great to put on at a party - liked this way more than I thought I would funky and groovy and great album art
Chris Isaak meets mark kozelek which I would think I would really like but it didn’t really grab me and I can’t put my finger on why. Somewhere between 3 and 4
Not for me - this band was completely unknown to me - I can’t even speak to if this is good for this genre bc it is simply not for me so how could I know - there were parts of songs that were better than others
I liked some songs better than others - enjoyed it more than I thought it would - nothing felt amazing but was catchy - between a 3 and 4
Not my kinda music I was bored with this and it was kind of annoying sorry
Did not think I was going to enjoy this but I did! A little more background music vibes for me but I’d put some songs on a playlist! Between 3 and 4
Wow I really like this album! Liked the first song and it kept being enjoyable from there !!!!! The last song got a little silly but every album can have one song that’s a little off lol but I did like parts of it - the rest I really loved !! First new to me album I started again from the beginning after the first listen
Not bad, not something I would put on myself - maybe it requires more familiarity to really get into?
I liked the non covers better! Not an album I would gravitate to but a fun listen - between 3 and 4
Good! Fun and easy to listen to it!
Really good! I listened to the original tracks and enjoyed it !!
Hadn’t really listened to anything besides the hits before - really love the whole album - my kind of music !!!!!
Didn’t think I would like this when I read the Wikipedia but was pleasantly surprised - maybe I’m influenced by the snowy morning when I listened to this but it sounds very nostalgic and Christmas snowy winter vibes to me - would put this on at like a family party - not my usual genre - would give a 3.5
I liked black mountain side - more diverse range of songs on the album and more blues like than I thought this would be - honestly cannot tell how much I like it I think I enjoyed it but probably wouldn’t put it on myself again not super my style
Thought his would sound more dated but it still jams!! Liked it more than I thought!
First album on the list we already own on vinyl ! Side two is better than side one???? maybe my favorite smiths album!
I did not think I would like this but it really surprised me !! Yes the songs are a bit repetitive but we’re rocking ! Highlights - listen to my heart, I don’t wanna walk around with you, and I wanna be your boyfriend
I am sorry for my rating and review Anthony -
I feel like I am supposed to like this more than I do … sorry to Radiohead - not sure why it doesn’t resonate with me - not upbeat enough?? Maybe a few more listens would do me good - but I’m landing between 3 and 4 closer to 3 for now
I feel like Coldplay was really trying to sound like this sorry I keep thinking of Coldplay when I’m listening to this!
Liked this more than I thought I would - and has more hits than I thought it did! Agree with many of the reviews that the skits did not age well are detract from the album itself. Between and 3 and 4 for sure
The first notes of the album I thought - oh am I gonna like this? Then the singing started and I thought otherwise - but then throughout the rest of the album it grew on me! Definitely not just something to casually put on but I kinda liked it at times
Don’t know why I never got into The Rolling Stones- I like this !!
This was okay thought I’d like it more
Nice and relaxing and enjoyable! Good morning music
Very nostalgic feels like high school - the horror rap elements are simply not for me nor the deeply dated worldviews but there are hits
Forgot how much I listened to this when I came out I knew every song on this re listen ! Still holds up I like it !
The songs oscillated between me liking them and wanting to skip them - maybe that happens when everyone in a band writes songs? I think I didn’t like the gaffney written songs (besides think). Ends up with a 3 - if it was just the songs I liked it would be closer to 4
perfect xmas morning album!
love this album!!!! Nostalgic, catchy, and just plain good !!!!!
not my usual type music but I get why it’s so popular - some moments weren’t super me but I liked it!
Very positive and upbeat but very of its time - a couple songs I’d go back to
Hm I wasn’t drawn to this, kinda reminded me of a different version of my uncles current band - never listened to nick cave at all before and probably won’t go in the rotation but was not bad at all
The most 80s album I’ve gotten on this list to date - I didn’t know what to expect, liked and disliked parts of the same songs
I liked this! Upbeat a good listen
Bryter layter was one of the first albums I got through this and I didn’t know what I was doing here so I didn’t give a written rating and I gave it a 4 - my big regret in this project ! Would go back and give 5 stars
That said - I really like this album and his entire musical output - somehow this doesn’t sound dated to me maybe because his voice is timeless ?? Loved the guitar - Five stars - re listened multiple times today
Love solsbury hill and love the album cover - the rest of the album is very varied - more prog rock than not
This is fine to be on nothing caught my ear but it wasn’t like I needed to turn it off - between 2 and 3 - thought it would be less poppy
The hits are hits and so are a lot of the other songs - short interludes but the album itself is pretty long - somewhere between a 3 and 4 but I’ll round up
More accessible and varied than I thought it would be - good album cover
Did not know any of the songs besides London calling - really enjoyed this lots of hits lots of jams! How have I missed this album so for long ? Long album but it didn’t drag on nor was it repetitive there was lots of variety and it was just good! Going in the rotation for sure
Listened to this so much as a kid - love love love it !!! Still so good after all these years!! Walt Whitmans Niece is probably my favorite song
